the birch show.
Host
Here's a little bit of the the show from Sunday night after the super bowl. Undercover boss on cbs.
Caller 1
When you're a female out here working on a garbage truck, this is our outhouse.
Caller 2
That's our little pea pod.
Host
That's it.
Caller 2
That's it.
Caller 1
You obviously can't keep breaking off route
Caller 2
all the time to go use the restroom.
Caller 1
That would add all kinds of time onto the route. Every time I have to go to the bathroom, I'd have to break off routing.
Co-host 1
Wow.
Host
You pee in a can.
Co-host 2
You okay with that?
Caller 1
Well, I guess I. I mean, I was just struck.
Host
How do our female drivers deal with being out on the road, you know, when nature calls? I feel like a male chauvinist or something. I mean, I've never thought about it. So that was the owner of the company because their policy.
Caller 1
Right, they changed policy. Yeah.
Co-host 3
Because their mail drivers just go in
Caller 1
people's yards or at the windows. They're driving down the road, you know.
Host
Here is Kobe Brooks from Atlanta, but now he is the CEO and president of hooters. Hey, Kobe.
Kobe Brooks
Good morning, Atlanta.
Host
How are you, man?
Kobe Brooks
I'm great.
Host
We are very intrigued by this show. You know, I've only seen the commercials that some of the women on the show saw it this week. The thing that I didn't understand while I was watching it is how do the employees know that there are cameras around? Correct.
Kobe Brooks
Yes. They're very well aware. There's probably, I don't know, 15 cameras while we're shooting.
Host
So what do they think the cameras are there for?
Kobe Brooks
They think that they're there for a premise of a documentary of a entry level employee coming in to try something different than he's otherwise accustomed to.
Host
Okay, so that said, even though this manager of Hooters knew the cameras were around, knew he was gonna be on tv, he still did some pretty inappropriate things that you saw while you were on the show.
Co-host 2
He did. He did.
Kobe Brooks
And, you know, I don't think he thought what he was doing was really bad. I thought he. I think that he thought it was sort of cute in a way, but obviously it wasn't. But, yeah, he did that while the cameras were rolling.
Host
And for those that haven't seen the commercial, what exactly was he making those employees do?
Kobe Brooks
He was. If you wanted to be cut off the floor early, he would do a bean eating contest with no hands.
Host
So the waitresses have their hands behind their back and they had to bend over and they had to do what?
Kobe Brooks
Eat baked beans off of a plate
Caller 1
in front of him.
Co-host 1
Humiliating.
Caller 1
Yeah.
Co-host 1
Did he do anything else to humiliate the staffers?
Kobe Brooks
No, no, that was pretty much it.
Co-host 2
He.
Kobe Brooks
You know, like I said, I don't think he thought he was being cute. I don't think he really thought anything other than that. And obviously, I couldn't break character. I couldn't say anything to him because I was filming. But at the end of the show, when you confront the people that you've worked with, good, bad, or indifferent, you have to watch the show. I don't even know what's in the show. I haven't seen it. CBS won't let me look at it, so I'll be seeing it the first time. You guys are so. I don't know what's going to air on it, but there was a stern
Co-host 2
meeting,
Kobe Brooks
to say the least,
Co-host 3
before the television show. Do you live in Atlanta?
Co-host 2
I do.
Kobe Brooks
Born and raised. I'm a rarity.
Host
Nice.
Caller 1
Wow.
Co-host 3
So when you would go to the Atlanta stores before the TV show, what would be something that you would normally notice without having the perspective of being in there?
Host
Small infractions.
Co-host 2
Yeah.
Co-host 3
Maybe not wiping off a counter type of thing. What was the most significant thing that you had to address before having the cameras behind you?
Kobe Brooks
You know, I'm a terrible, terrible Hooters customer because I look at everything. I'm actually a terrible customer in any restaurant just because it's what I do. You sort of. You nitpick more than the average person does. So I look at everything, and sometimes it's hard to even have a pleasant meal in any restaurant. I go into just because the little things bother me, because I know they're not right, but the average customer would never notice.
Caller 1
So.
Kobe Brooks
So there's a lot of things.
Caller 1
When I. When I was watching the show on Sunday with the waste management episode, and a lot of people on Twitter were wondering now, is this real? Because, I mean, it obviously gives great PR for the company, and it goes PR for the CEO in particular. So. And they were like, is this kind of set up? And so how would you answer that to those who kind of doubted the first show?
Kobe Brooks
No, it's. It's not set up at all. There's no script. It's.
Co-host 2
It's.
Kobe Brooks
It's off the cuff, and what happens, happens. So I can honestly say there's no scripting. I wasn't paid, the company wasn't paid. It's just, you know, only thing I had to do was give about 10 days of my time for filming.
Host
How did they choose you and Hooters to be. To highlight on the show?
Kobe Brooks
They contacted us early in 2009, and we get contacted by a lot of different people to do a lot of different things, and most of it's involving the girls in different shows they want to do pilots for. It never. Never involved me. So when this came through, we're like, yeah, okay, whatever. Well, they kept calling back and they said, really?
Co-host 2
This.
Kobe Brooks
We're going to do this. It's going to work. And they kept going back. And then I cast it, and they liked the casting. And, you know, we. At the whole time this whole process was going on, we're like, you know, it's never going to get off the ground.
Co-host 2
And.
Kobe Brooks
Well, it did.
Co-host 4
And when you were done filming, were there any policies or procedures that you ended up changing?
Kobe Brooks
Yes, we actually implemented some different marketing programs. We did change some policies, and we changed the way we do a little bit of business and a little bit of training and things of that nature. But overall, my experience was extremely positive. Even the negatives were positive, because I'm glad that I saw everything that I did see. So it's only going to make our company better. We've got 25,000 employees in 28 different countries. And, you know, it's to say that every one of my employees are doing what they're supposed to be doing. I mean, I'd be a liar. So it's just big companies have opportunities, no matter what walk of life or what industry you're in.
Co-host 4
And going back to that one manager, are you concerned that there are other managers managing other Hooters that are doing the same thing that you're not seeing?
Co-host 3
Not after that episode.
Kobe Brooks
Yeah, probably not as much anymore.
Co-host 1
And you said that hooters is in 28 countries?
Co-host 2
Yes.
Co-host 1
And what's the most obscure country where there's Hooters? I'm just curious.
Kobe Brooks
Well, the one that was really shocking to everybody, it's not open anymore because the developer of the shopping mall that we were in never did finish it, so all the business left, but. And it was doing well at the time until the shopping center went under. But it was in Israel. It was in a town north of Israel called Poleg.
Co-host 1
Wow, that's cool.
Kobe Brooks
And so, you know, we're in a lot. We're in Austria, Switzerland, lots of countries in south and Central America. We have four in China, Singapore. So we're all over the place.
Co-host 1
That is wild.
Host
Hey, Kobe, do you have to run, like, in 60 seconds or something like that? Are you on a pretty short time?
Kobe Brooks
I don't know. I have another person in there telling me what I'm doing in my other ear.
Host
Okay, I'm gonna put you on the spot for just a second here. Cause as we're talking to you, one of our producers just instant messaged me and said that she used to work for Hooters, obviously, and she loved the experience until the very.
Former Hooters Girl
Yes, I was a Hooters girl over in Roswell, Georgia, and I loved working there. I was a trainer. I got to go to the Hooters in Cancun and help open that store. It was a great experience. I did the contest. I submitted pictures from magazines. Well, towards the end of my Hooters career, I was actually fired. Let go. Because I had gained weight, and I was brought in during a yearly evaluation, and I was told that I did not look the same as I did when I was hired and that I needed to get back to that. Wait. And if not, they were gonna have to let me go.
Co-host 1
And did they let you go for that reason?
Former Hooters Girl
Yes, because, I mean, they give you. They give you 60 days to get it back.
Host
So is that even legal?
Elise
Colby?
Kobe Brooks
We do. We have a bona fide occupational qualification, and there are image standards. And, yes, it is legal.
Host
And at that point, I'm just curious how this process goes. Do they tell you you have to lose five pounds? Do they tell you you have to lose ten pounds?
Former Hooters Girl
Well, they take a picture of you with a Polaroid when you're first hired, and then it's in your employee book, and then they show it to you, and they say, this is how we hired you. This is how we want you to go.
Kobe Brooks
Look again, if you were chosen to do openings for us in Cancun or any other place, I mean, obviously they were very happy with you at some point, because not everybody gets to go do that.
Former Hooters Girl
Correct. Which I really enjoy doing, like I said. But I personally feel like I didn't look bad. And I think women are different heights and different shapes, and they come.
Co-host 3
But did you look different than when you were hired?
Former Hooters Girl
I don't feel like I probably gained 5, 10 pounds, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal.
Kobe Brooks
And it's very hard for me to comment, you know, with education here, because I have no idea. I don't know if I've met you. I was at the Cancun opening, and I have no idea the circumstances.
Host
Yeah, I mean, it's part of the Hooters marketing, too. I mean, I guess that's a tough thing to talk about, but, I mean, that's what they do. That's the brand, and that's the image.
Former Hooters Girl
It is tough. I mean, it took a. It's a such. It hurts your pride, and it hurts your image and your self esteem, and I got over it. You know, I moved on to other things. But like I said, do you. You earlier. I did enjoy working there until that point.
Co-host 3
Well, let's.
Co-host 1
It's really subjective, though, because if they were gonna hire you in the first place. But your argument is if you gain five or ten pounds, then you should still be able to have your job, but they wouldn't have hired somebody 50 pounds more heavy than you at the outset. Do you know what I'm saying?
Host
Yeah, a little bit.
Co-host 1
And you wouldn't have argued about that.
Host
Well, let's continue this talk, but I'm sure Colby has to take off. Hey, Colby, good luck on the show on Sunday night, and we appreciate your time and congratulations. Colby here started from the ground up. Like he didn't inherit Hooters. Like, he worked from the ground up. So he was a great choice to do the show on. All right, man. Thank you very much for your time.
Kobe Brooks
Thank you. And my apologies to the Hooter girl.
Former Hooters Girl
Well, thanks. It's great. I'm in a better place.
Co-host 3
It's okay. Now we're gonna talk to her, actually, after the show. And, Joanna, bring your Polaroid from day one.
Host
See you later, Colby.
Caller 2
Bye.
Elise
Bye.
Host
So I guess it's a little bit of the same conversation that we had when we were talking about the tavern a long time ago. Also, like, if that's the image that the company has for their servers, then they certainly have the right to say, sorry, you don't meet that image anymore.
Co-host 2
Right.
Host
I mean, it's harsh.
Former Hooters Girl
My argument was that there were girls in the store who were bigger than me, but because I gained weight, I'm the one who has to go back. But if they hired another girl who was already 10 pounds heavier than me, she's allowed to keep her job. That was what my biggest argument was with her.
Co-host 1
Do you think it was an excuse and they wanted to fire you for
Former Hooters Girl
other things it could have been. I mean, that's definitely how. Of course, I look back now, and I'm like, oh, they probably just didn't like me. Maybe I'm old news. They got some new girls in. They want some fresh faces. I don't know. I had been there for four years. It could have been.
Host
Without knowing anything about the situation, I'm pretty sure it was your attitude,
Co-host 3
and
Caller 1
this is not a reflection on you, But I think that if you're a Hooters girl and you brag about being a Hooters girl, and then your image changes based on, you know, like, on one day, you can't brag that you're Hooters girl, saying that I'm better looking than other women because I'm a Hooters girl. And like I said, this is not directed to Joanna, but those that do that, then I don't think you can complain. If you lose that image because you kind of. You embraced it when you had it, and then when you didn't have it, then all of a sudden, you're mad at the company. You know what I mean?
Host
Hey, Michelle. Good morning. You're part of the Burt show.
Former Hooters Girl
Hello.
Caller 2
Good morning.
Caller 1
Hi.
Caller 2
My comment was simply just things like this go on all the time. I'm older than most of the girls. I got hired at the one in Noonan. Most of the girls there start out at 18 years old. I was already married with children. And one of the things that they would make you do is if you didn't look like you could have been in a calendar. You were the one that was running the bus tub. You were the one that was cleaning up the floors. You were the one that was checking the bathrooms.
Co-host 3
You.
Caller 2
You were kind of. It was a Cinderella deal.
Elise
I don't know.
Host
I don't know how you can blame the company for that. I mean, it's what the job is.
Caller 2
It's the managers. It's not the company. I mean, I've met that is Kobe before. It's the managers. It's. Every one of them is different.
Caller 1
Yeah.
Co-host 1
You know what you're signing up.
Co-host 2
Yeah.
Co-host 3
But you're taking a job at a restaurant that is, you know, in addition to the delicious and tasty wings and curly fries.
Caller 1
It's called Hooters.
Caller 2
Yeah.
Co-host 3
Also has an obligation to be staffed with hot women. That's their gimmick. So the hottest women are going to be the ones who have the most customer interaction. It's what it is.
Host
I don't know how you can blame them for that.

Here is Elise, who has a big weekend ahead of her this weekend.
Caller 1
I can't concentrate. No, I'm just kidding.
Host
Because her mom is supposed to meet her boyfriend. But there's just one problem, one little itty bitty problem in the whole plan, really tiny, is that there is no boyfriend.
Co-host 4
Oh, boy.
Host
Hey, Elise. Good morning.
Elise
Hi, guys.
Host
Hi. How are you?
Elise
Good, thanks.
Host
Okay, so how long is this charade been going on now?
Elise
It's been going on since Christmas.
Host
Since Christmas. All right, so what's the history? Like? Your mom's always pressuring you to have to be in a relationship or something
Elise
yeah, she's constantly nagging me. And it's not like I don't date. I totally date. It's just nothing serious. But she doesn't understand that. And so, you know, even over Thanksgiving, she pulled my sister aside and asked my sister if I was a lesbian. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, Melissa.
Caller 1
But you say, well, I would bring a girl around if I was a lesbian. Like,
Co-host 3
you're starting to feel the pressure.
Elise
It just really upset me. And then Christmas, she started getting on my case again, and all I said was, how do you know I don't have a boyfriend? And it just kind of started from there.
Caller 1
It's really her fault. I mean, it's. It's. I made a joke earlier, but.
Caller 2
Yeah.
Caller 1
If parents are on your case about being dating somebody, getting married, having children, all. You know, this, of course, to get you off our backs, we're gonna do something.
Co-host 1
And how old are you?
Elise
I'm 30.
Co-host 1
Okay.
Host
So even at 30 years old, this never goes away. Like with your mom, they're always pressuring you to be like.
Co-host 1
Especially as you get older.
Elise
Yeah.
Caller 1
If they're that type of person. Not every mother does it, but if you are that type of mother. Yeah.
Host
So you say, how do you know I'm not dating somebody? And then all of a sudden, every time you're on the phone with her, I'm assuming she's like, how's the boyfriend?
Elise
She wound up telling everybody over Christmas that I had a boyfriend after that because she took it. Like, how do I. How does she know I don't have one? Like, I obviously do, and you just don't know about him. And I didn't correct her because it felt pretty good to have her off my back for a second.
Co-host 4
And what kind of details about your boyfriend did you give your mom?
Elise
I've tried to not be too specific, but his name. Well, as I say, his name is Jeremiah. That's pretty specific, I guess.
Caller 1
Okay.
Co-host 1
Why'd you pick that name? You just like that?
Caller 1
Does he drive a buggy?
Elise
No, he's a bullfrog. He works in finance. He's tall, dark and handsome. I figured that was pretty easy. And that's pretty much as far as he's gone.
Host
So now how did you work your way into a situation where she's about to meet him in Chattanooga?
Elise
It's her birthday coming up. And she said, well, why don't you bring Jeremiah with you to come and meet your mother on her birthday? And I said, oh, he has this work conference, and so he's not gonna be able to make it. And she said, well, you know, that's. That's okay. Just have him give me a call and wish me happy birthday. I just want to hear his voice, get to know him. And so now I just. I. He needs to call her.
Host
So all she now wants is a call. From Jeremiah. Just saying.
Elise
From Jeremiah.
Host
Oh, wow.
Caller 1
See, I think mothers like. Because mothers like that. And I mean, it's not that dads don't do the same thing too, but especially mothers. It's like their reputation's on the line. Like, she's self conscious not because of your happiness. She's self conscious because she doesn't have a son in law or grandchildren to tell her friends about or her family members about, you know?
Elise
Yeah, I'm totally fine being single. I'm not even depressed about it.
Caller 1
Good.
Co-host 4
It's just.
Host
You want this?
Elise
Honestly, like, this would make her feel better. I feel bad about lying, but I feel like Jeremiah might break up with me pretty soon.
Co-host 1
Did you say before? Do you have siblings?
Elise
I have a sister.
Co-host 1
And is she married or kids?
Elise
Of course she's married. She has to show me up, right?
Co-host 4
How old is she?
Elise
She's a couple years older than me.
Caller 2
She's 32.
Co-host 3
Okay, but she was probably in a committed relationship by the time she was 30 old.
Elise
She and her boyfriend were together since high school.
Caller 1
Oh, God.
Co-host 1
And do they have kids yet?
Elise
Yeah, they have two kids.
Co-host 4
So she should be off your back.
Co-host 1
She's already got grandkids. I mean, your mom, anyway.
Elise
You would think so, but my mother is a special woman.
Caller 1
What about your sister? Is she like, on your side or your mom's side?
Elise
I'm sorry?
Caller 1
Your sister, Is she on your side or your mom's side?
Elise
She's totally on my side. She knows my mom's crazy.
Host
She can understand it. Well, there's two ways to go with this. There's the honest route, which is like, hey, you're 30 years old. It's time to stick up to your mom and go, look, you know, I'll settle down when I'm ready to settle down. Or you just find one of your friends and have them call and conversation's over in five minutes.
Elise
Yeah, I don't have that many, like, guy friends, I would say. And it's kind of awkward. I guess I could.
Caller 1
What do you want to do?
Elise
Well, I kind of just want to find somebody who's willing to play along who I don't have to see every day and be embarrassed.
Co-host 1
Do you have Any gay guy friends?
Elise
I don't. I don't.
Co-host 1
Because I would think I would be able to go to one of my gay boyfriends over one of my regular guy friends in order to play along and do that.
Host
One of us says, how about your Brian Duke friend? He could BS his way through.
Co-host 4
I'm sure he could. He'd be good at that.
Co-host 3
He's not good at that.
Co-host 1
Yeah, but that's a three day commitment for him. That's way too long.
Elise
You guys find me at Jeremiah.
Host
He can find you at Jeremiah. Here is Donna. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 2
Hey. I just wanted to say I think she needs to grow up and stand up to her mom.
Host
The age thing, like when you said 30, I was really surprised. Like, I thought you were gonna say 23.
Caller 1
Do y' all know mama's like this, though?
Host
No.
Caller 1
No, you can't.
Host
Yeah, it.
Caller 1
Yeah, I know she's saying stand up to your mom and everything, but crazy mamas, it's. Yeah, it's a little more difficult.
Elise
Hello.
Host
Hi, Lynette.
Caller 3
Hey.
Host
Hey, Lynette. We got Elise here, who is supposed to go to Chattanooga to see her mom this weekend for her birthday. And she's supposed to be bringing this made up boyfriend, Jeremiah, instead of standing up to her mom.
Caller 2
Okay, she has two options. One, tell the truth. Second option, get like somebody unemployed who's not doing anything, who would just love
Co-host 2
to go on a trip and just
Caller 2
go for the ride and just, you know, play with mom a little bit and make sure mom knows he's not working. And I think mom will leave her the heck alone after all that.
Host
I think the phone call is way safer than the trip. Like, find. There's gotta be somebody that you know or somebody that we know that can make this. It's a five minute call. Get it over with. Unless you just are done with it and just be honest with her.
Caller 1
How conservative is your mom?
Elise
How conservative is she? Extremely.
Caller 1
I would find. We gotta find her a black friend, a black man to go to Chattanooga with you and pretend to be your boyfriend. Because if she's conservative and upset about it, then maybe that will get you, get her off your back.
Host
So really what we need is a guy just to play the part on the phone. Gone from like, come up to Chattanooga with me to 5 minute conversation with my mom would be just fine. So we gotta find the right guy to play the part of Jeremiah. Hey, Trevor.
Co-host 2
Hey. How's it going?
Host
Good. How are you?
Co-host 2
I'm doing well. And yourself?
Host
Good. Elise, you Want to play the part of your mom here? I mean, this is your audition.
Elise
Okay, sure.
Caller 3
Hi, how are you?
Co-host 2
I'm doing well. And yourself?
Elise
I'm doing really good. Sorry you couldn't make it up for my birthday.
Caller 2
What happened?
Co-host 2
Yeah, I got stuck at work. I do freelance work, so I might get called all the time and just couldn't make it. It was a total bummer.
Elise
Oh, so you must be pretty successful.
Co-host 2
You know, I do alright for myself. I'm not the richest man, I'm not the brokest man. You know, I could sport some nice things, but you know, I do all right for myself.
Elise
And what is it that you see in Elise?
Co-host 2
She's really pretty. I actually met her at a coffee shop and we both ordered the same drink and I offered if I could buy it for her and she said yeah, we hit it off real well and she's really pretty and really smart and, you know, we'll see what happens from there.
Elise
Do you have any plan for Valentine's Day?
Co-host 2
Sorry, yeah, I do. My initial plan was to do one of those horse drawn carriage things, but the weather permitting is not probably gonna allow that. So I had some plans to go to dad's garage and then maybe like two urban licks or something and then drinks after that.
Host
This is your dude, right?
Co-host 1
This is your dude.
Caller 1
Well, she'll be like, your father's garage. What's in your father's garage?
Co-host 3
Two urban legs. That sounds like a. A creeper date.
Co-host 2
I'm gonna.
Co-host 3
I'm gonna go to dad's garage then give you two urban legs.
Caller 2
Come on, girl.
Host
Oh my.
Co-host 1
You're frightening me. On how well you're lying.
Co-host 4
You know, it was really good.
Host
Are you currently in a relationship, Trevor?
Co-host 2
No, I'm not.
Co-host 3
He's married.
Co-host 2
I'm married several times. Just kidding.
Host
So never been married?
Co-host 2
Nope.
Host
Okay, he's got the gift here. I think that. Do we all agree that this could be the guy right here?
Co-host 1
This is our guy.
Host
Elise, are you comfortable with us just ending this thing and having Trevor call your mom this weekend?
Caller 2
I love it.
Co-host 3
Move the car, Trevor.
Co-host 1
Move the car.
Co-host 2
Yeah, I'm parked illegally. I'm actually kind of working.
Host
Move the car.
Co-host 2
I'm doing it. I'm doing it. So, yeah, what's the word?
Host
All right, let me put you on hold here and we'll get in touch with you. We'll get your phone number, we'll get Elise's mom's number, maybe have Elise talk to you a couple of times and get some schooling down here.
Kobe Brooks
Yeah, I was gonna say, if we're gonna do this, I don't want to do it.
Co-host 2
You know, I wanna do it right. I need to get some information myself.
Host
Yeah, you need an education here on Elise. At least 101.
Co-host 3
I think you guys should meet. So you really do have that cup of coffee and make love at least once.
Co-host 2
No, we'll play it by ear.
Host
She definitely owes him a sexual favor after this. Hold on to her.
Co-host 4
Oh, my God.
Host
All right, Elise, that's taken care of.
Bluff
Done.
Host
You got your Jeremiah.
Bluff
Okay.
Elise
Oh, thank you so much.
Caller 1
Good luck.
Host
It's really very, very romantic. Now this could be destiny right here, you guys. Here's the destiny card of the whole thing, okay? She calls a radio station looking for a guy to BS Mom. We find a guy randomly on the phone.
Co-host 3
Dude.
Host
They're on the phone with each other while they're passing information, and all of a sudden they realize that there's a connection.
Co-host 1
Maybe they do really meet out for coffee and maybe they do really have the same order.
Kobe Brooks
Oh, my God.
Caller 1
Y' all shut up.
Host
It is destiny.

Host
So I was listening to Jen this morning and I watched American Idol last night and you got that big mic dude, right? Do you have the audio of that guy, Andy?
Co-host 1
Yeah, I do. He's right here.
Host
And he was really impressive on the show. If you didn't see American Idol last night, here's big Mike from the show.
Co-host 3
I'm the next American Idol because my
Caller 2
wife is in labor right now with our first child.
Co-host 3
She would not be happy if I didn't come home with a victory this week, so. And also, I'll pummel anybody who disagrees.
Host
It's like a big personal trainer. Me and all my friends, we all
Co-host 3
misunderstood the saying we stand for nothing and there's no way we ever.
Host
Okay, so the guy obviously has got some goods there, right? But the truth of the matter is his wife's water broke while he was in la and the chances are pretty good he's gonna miss the birth of his child because he's taken this shot at American Idol, you know. So my question is this for you guys. Give me the crappiest reason that your husband missed the birth of your child.
Co-host 3
Hmm. Like this guy, Super Bowl 39.
Host
Like, at this, at least this guy can say, you know what? She gave me the okay and we were trying to fulfill. She knows this is my dream, so I went out to la. She gave me the green light. I missed the birth of our child, but she was okay with it. There's gotta be some of you guys listening right now whose husband missed a birth for a stupid ass reason.
Co-host 4
Oh, yeah.
Co-host 1
Much stupid.
Host
I don't know that you ever get over it.
Co-host 1
Yeah, much stupid than American Idol because he could, if he advances and he wins, this thing changes the final.
Caller 1
Yeah.
Co-host 1
I mean, he can take care of his wife and kids and multiple kids forever and ever.
Caller 1
Because we learned. I'm sorry.
Host
404-741-Q100 I just say because we learned
Caller 1
this morning that even though there was scandal with him and his dad, he's still in the competition. Correct.
Host
So at the end of the day, this may be okay. And again, he did get the green light from his wife. She knew that she was close to having the baby and even with that said, go out there and do your thing. So, I mean, in his case, it's not all that bad. But there's gotta be like a dude that was like just got too drunk and ended up somehow some way missing it or I can't think what could keep you from that situation.
Co-host 3
Should we take out military leave?
Host
Yeah, absolutely. Deployment? Yeah, that doesn't count.
Co-host 1
Yeah, I don't know. Just going out partying with your friends
Co-host 3
or hungover who was drunk or going
Co-host 1
to a game, like a sports game. Like you were at the super bowl this weekend. Say the Chargers had actually made it and you had this big plan with your friends to be down there for the super bowl, but your wife was going to deliver.
Host
Then you're not allowed to go on the trip. Like, if you knew that it was this close, then you're not allowed to go on the trip. But I bet there's somebody that said, you know what, I'm going to go ahead and roll the dice here.
Co-host 1
Go anyway.
Host
Chances are pretty good.
Co-host 1
Labor, I'll catch a flight and then miss it, you know?
Host
404-741-Q100 hey, John.
Kobe Brooks
Hey.
Co-host 2
What's going on?
Host
You tell us what's up?
Co-host 2
Not too much. My wife's actually going to have our first Kid, she. She's doing about two weeks, but if she doesn't have it sooner, I might miss it.
Host
For what reason?
Co-host 2
I start. I started a new company and my first. First week on the job is right
Kobe Brooks
when she's due and they won't.
Co-host 3
The new company isn't. Wouldn't be understanding of you said.
Co-host 2
You're saying it's. It's my business. It's a new business that I started.
Co-host 3
Okay.
Host
Right.
Co-host 2
So. Yeah. And there's absolutely no way start it later.
Caller 1
You're the bet. You're the boss. Right. So.
Co-host 2
Right.
Caller 1
So you could really could be there.
Co-host 2
Well, the way what the business is, it's actually going to various trade shows and the first show I've got to go to is the day that our first daughter supposed to be born.
Host
There's nobody else that you could stand there. I'm telling you, man, you're gonna. You'll regret this for the rest of your life.
Caller 1
Not a good reason.
Co-host 2
We've talked to the doctor. The doctor is possibly going to try to induce her a week early.
Host
That's the way to go. Don't miss that.
Co-host 2
Man, I'm telling you, we're trying to push up the birth of our first kid so I can start my business.
Co-host 1
Well, yeah, but at the end of your days, are you going to regret missing a trade show or missing the birth of your daughter?
Co-host 2
You know, it's either be there for the birth of our daughter or make some money for that month.
Host
Are you guys in a place right now, financially, where like you're. You're forced to make this decision based on what's going on?
Co-host 2
Yeah, it. It's one of those things that I've got to do this. And you know, we. We knew this going into it. My wife, you know, she bought into it when we, you know, we found out we were pregnant. We knew that this was coming up.
Host
So. So if it's a matter of like food on the table or being there, then it makes it a tougher decision still.
Caller 1
If you're. But he's the boss. I don't know.
Co-host 3
You know, somebody I just on Twitter called out her own dad for being on the golf course when she was born.
Host
Oh, no.
Caller 1
There you go.
Host
Really? Hey, Brianna. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 2
Good morning.
Host
Hi.
Caller 2
Well, my husband missed our bird, our childbirth for open season for deer hunting.
Co-host 3
First day
Caller 2
I woke up, up to my water breaking, and he's like, well, you need to call your mom. I'm like, what?
Caller 1
He had a perch to go and sit In.
Caller 2
Well, my mother had to come and
Caller 3
get me and take me to hospital,
Caller 2
and he did not show up until after she was born.
Elise
It's okay.
Caller 2
But he didn't get anything, so he missed it for no reason.
Co-host 1
Are you still married to him?
Kobe Brooks
No.
Host
That one worked itself out.
Radio Announcer
Yeah.
Kobe Brooks
All right.
Host
Thank you.
Elise
Thank you.
Host
I think that was a fairly selfish decision.
Co-host 1
You think?
Caller 1
Depends on they were overpopulated and needed it.
Host
I'm talking about leaving them.
Co-host 3
It depends. It depends on if the decision for him to not be there for the birth came before or after he sprayed himself with deer Young. Because if you've already got the deer pee on you, you're committed.
Host
He's pretty much committed.
Caller 1
Yeah.
Co-host 3
You don't want to be in the delivery.
Host
Hey, Emily. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Elise
Hi.
Caller 2
We had gone to a party. It was on a Saturday night. I was very, very pregnant.
Elise
So for whatever reason, we had driven
Caller 2
separate, and we ended up staying the night there. I wasn't. Of course, I wasn't drinking, but he was just plastered. Well, I went into labor the next
Caller 3
morning, and I was like, okay, I'm gonna go home, and I'll meet you there.
Elise
So I went home.
Caller 2
He never came home. I called my mom. She drove me to the hospital.
Caller 3
I had the baby.
Caller 2
He had fallen asleep at that friend's house and slept the entire day.
Co-host 2
No.
Caller 2
Missed everything.
Host
No.
Radio Announcer
Oh, no.
Host
This was your first child?
Elise
Yeah.
Caller 3
We're not married anymore.
Caller 2
Yeah.
Host
I think we're gonna catch a reoccurring theme. Hey, Kim. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 2
Good morning.
Host
Hey, we're talking about this. This Big Mike dude on American Idol that missed the birth of his firstborn so we could try out for American Idol.
Caller 3
Right.
Host
I'm asking you guys, like, other reasons that could possibly be that somebody missed the birth of the child.
Caller 2
My own father missed my birth because he was with his current girlfriend at the time.
Host
Oh, wow.
Caller 1
Okay.
Caller 2
And, yeah, my mom couldn't find him
Caller 3
or get a hold of him, and
Elise
they had to do an emergency cesarean,
Caller 2
so my aunt actually had to sign the paperwork because he wasn't there.
Host
Oh, no.
Co-host 4
Yeah.
Host
They're not together anymore.
Caller 2
Oh, gosh, no.
Caller 3
Yeah.
Host
I'm sorry, baby. And that's why that kind of hurt never goes away, right?
Caller 2
Never goes away. No. Wow.
Host
Thank you for calling. That turns sad. Hey, Erin. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 3
Good morning.
Host
Hi.
Caller 3
Well, actually, I'm calling about my dad. When my sister was born, this was in 1967, my parents had Just moved. My mom was pregnant with her first child. My dad went out to play cards with friends. They didn't have a phone. My mom went into labor, but thought she would have time for him to come home. Ended up having my sister by herself. Had to cut the cord with them with dental floss. I mean, tie it off with dental floss. Passed out three times after she had the baby. On the way to the kitchen to get some orange juice. When my dad came home, she had my sister wrapped in a blanket on the bed with her. And they went on to have three more children, though.
Caller 1
Whoa.
Caller 3
Luckily, my mom had spent some time in Mexico. Had seen babies born, but had never. Yeah, but they didn't have a phone. My mom didn't know the neighbors. She's just kind of private. Didn't want to bother anybody, and. But the baby came. My sister came.
Co-host 3
I've seen baby born, babies born, but I ain't tying nothing off with dental floss.
Co-host 1
Yeah. I've watched my fair share of baby story, but I'm not doing it myself.
Caller 1
But they're soldier. Yeah. The whole time they're raised. That mother used that against all of them. You know what I've been through. You know what I can do to you?
Co-host 1
Yeah.
Caller 1
Yeah.
Co-host 3
I'll tie this dental floss around your neck.
Caller 1
That's right.
Host
Hey, Alicia. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 2
Good morning.
Host
Unfortunately, there are no shortage of these calls. Go ahead.
Elise
My ex husband actually left because he
Caller 2
was upset with me. Him and my mom didn't really get along. His mom lived out of town. And he decided right when I had dilated and everything that he was gonna be like, your mom needs to leave now. And at this point, I don't care what's going on. I just want this baby out of me. This is my first child. I'm scared. And he decides I'm leaving. And he left and came back maybe five hours later.
Host
And at that point, he missed the birthday.
Elise
Yes.
Co-host 1
And are you still with him?
Caller 2
No.
Co-host 2
We got divorced.
Caller 2
And during our whole divorce thing, when he was really upset, he finally told me he was glad that he found elsewhere to be. So it kind of told me where he may have been.
Host
Sweet guy.
Caller 2
Well, I love your show. You guys are so funny. I listen to you every day when I go to school at Kennesaw.
Co-host 4
We would have been there.
Caller 1
We would have been there.
Co-host 1
Yeah.
Host
We would have been there for you.
Co-host 1
Take us with you to the front of your baby.
Co-host 2
Yeah.
Co-host 3
Dental floss in hand.
Caller 1
That's right.
Host
Here's the Closer call. Hey, Laura, good morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 3
Good morning. How are y' all doing?
Radio Announcer
Okay.
Host
How are you doing?
Caller 2
Good. Well, my dad actually missed my birth. My mom was in labor with me
Caller 3
and she was doing it naturally.
Caller 2
And my dad told my mom that, oh, it can't hurt that bad, you know, you're exaggerating, etc.
Caller 3
And my mom punched him and he fell. And he was unconscious for my birth
Caller 2
because he hit his head on the
Caller 3
table and then hit the floor.
Co-host 1
Serves him right.
Host
That might have been the only legitimate excuse right there to miss the birth. So he literally was knocked out when you were born?
Caller 3
Literally knocked out. They put him in another room while I was being born.
Host
Are they still together?
Elise
They are.
Host
They are, yeah. He's scared to leave.
Caller 1
Yeah, he never said that again.
Co-host 3
I hope he still gets grief for that.
Radio Announcer
Hey, the bird show.

The first show I was telling these guys the other day, you know, like, sometimes I'll hit my lunesta. It's the sleeping pill I take, and I've been taking it for like six years now. And I'll get a little loopy right when I'm watching TV the next morning, I'll wake up and go, you know what? Just as I'm fading out, did I see what I really just saw? And I got confirmation from Wendy this morning. You guys seen that big Mac? That McDonald's is doing a Big Mac now in a tortilla?
Caller 1
No, but that just makes my heart hurt hearing that.
Co-host 3
A Big Mac wrap.
Co-host 4
Why does it make your heart hurt? It's less.400 calories.
Host
I just thought it was the most bizarre, disgusting looking thing I've ever seen in my life.
Caller 1
It sounds gross.
Co-host 4
It looks gross.
Host
Have you seen it yet?
Co-host 3
I haven't seen it, but I mean,
Host
it's everything that's in a Big Mac. It's everything. It's the mustard, it's the meat, it's the lettuce, it's everything.
Co-host 3
It's not mustard. It's special sauce.
Host
Yeah, whatever. Yeah, mustard and it's all in a wrap now. I just thought it was the most bizarre thing. Like, man, my taste buds aren't ready for that.
Co-host 4
It's a Big Mac. It needs to be on a bun.
Host
Exactly.
Co-host 4
Wrapped in a tortilla.
Caller 1
It's not gonna make it healthier.
Host
Don't mess with the classic.
Co-host 4
Yeah, Just don't think it's healthy. People, it's the same thing.
Caller 1
Yeah, that's their way of having another, you know, thing on the health menu. You know, it's like, oh, how can we do that? Okay, we'll just put it in a tortilla, wrap it up, I guess.
Host
The carbs in the bun, if you take that thing out, then you're still gonna.
Co-host 3
You're going from 600 calories to 560.
Host
Right.
Caller 1
Does it really matter? Fat content the same.
Co-host 3
Have a dozen less fries, and you're accomplishing the same thing.
Host
Wendy here was telling us that she's been having trouble sleeping lately because she's having, like, this new round of panic attacks.
Co-host 4
Yeah, they're. I think they're anxiety attacks. I'm not really sure of what to make of it, but it's been happening for about a month or a month and a half or so. And it's just. My chest gets really tight, and my heart just starts racing for no reason. It comes out of nowhere. I could be laying on the couch, and all of a sudden my heart will start racing. And then as soon as your heart starts racing, it's all downhill from there because you can't really get back to breathing normal because you're so focused on your heart beating. And you're like, why is my heart beating so fast? You're like, am I having a heart attack? I'm like, I'm only 24. I' having a heart attack. But then you start getting panicky, and then you can't wind down from these anxiety attacks, so I can't go back to bed.
Host
Is it something that triggers it every night?
Co-host 4
There's no trigger. I mean, I guess my mind's always constantly on anyways, so my mind's never fully shut off. So that makes it tough to sleep anyways. But that comes out of nowhere. I don't know where it stems from. I don't know what causes it. If I knew what caused it, I would take something for it. But as soon as. As soon as I could just be laying on the couch, like last night, laying on the couch.
Host
Are you having one right now? Because you're giving me one. Just talking about it.
Co-host 4
It's almost like that. I mean, your chest gets super tight and you don't know how to calm yourself down. You can't focus on your breathing because once you focus on your breathing, it just gets worse because all you hear is your heart pounding in your head. That's all you hear.
Caller 1
Well, I mean, you shared with us a few weeks ago about your anxiety over being broke. I mean, having money problems, which is. Is such a source of stress for so many people. And so, I mean, I just wonder, do you think it's just a side effect of the stress that you kind of feel? You know, like, you say there's no trigger, but it could be like a delayed response from you being stressed out all day about concerns over money or whatever else is going on.
Co-host 4
It could be concerns over money. I mean, concerns over. Maybe it stems from worry. I don't know.
Host
There's probably a bunch of things. I mean, you do the split shift here at the station, so that's exhausting. You know, my doctor told me months and months ago that because we get up, the time we do, your whole body chemistry is off to begin with.
Co-host 3
You're dead by 50.
Host
Yeah.
Co-host 3
I mean, you're dead by 38.
Radio Announcer
Yeah.
Host
You'd be lucky to get to 50
Caller 1
right now because we're not doing the split shift. So really, you cut that 50 in half. So you got a good year.
Host
Yeah, well, this is.
Co-host 4
I mean, I've had anxiety attacks.
Caller 1
Just start panicking right now.
Host
One year.
Radio Announcer
One year.
Co-host 4
I mean, I've had anxiety attacks in here before, and I just try to cover it up, but, I mean, I sit over there and my heart does. It just starts going. And then that's it.
Caller 1
Do you really think it's. I mean, I sit next to you? Wendy, are you sure that it's just.
Host
You do that for me, too. It's not so much my heart that
Radio Announcer
starts racing,
Co-host 3
the thought of you draining your ears.
Host
Here is Samantha. Hey, Samantha. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 2
Hey, Bert. What's going on?
Host
Well, we're okay, but Wendy's having, like, panic attacks every day.
Caller 2
Yeah, I can definitely relate to. Particularly when I'm about to go to sleep. I have the same thing that happens, especially when I have to wake up early, which I obviously do. I'm on the way to work right now, but when I have to wake up early and I'll start thinking about how I have to wake up early. So I just think about it and think about it and think about it, and then I end up like My heart starts racing and my. Like, I just can't go to sleep at all. I. I'll be wide awake, and every time I'm about to go to sleep, I feel my heart start racing again, so I have to, like, be awake longer.
Host
That's how my sleeping disorder started. Just the same. The exact same way, really. And even now, when I don't take it, I guess you could call it a panic attack.
Co-host 4
Right.
Host
When I put my head on the pillow, my heart starts racing.
Co-host 4
Really? Because sometimes this happens just in the middle of the day. It happened before the super bowl started on Sunday for no reason. I was just chilling on the couch, and all of a sudden I had to sit up because I'm like. My heart started racing so bad. My mom had to ask me if I was okay. And I'm. Yeah, my heart's just racing fast for no reason. I don't know why.
Host
It's like this anxiety ticking time bomb. You never know when it's gonna hit.
Co-host 4
Yeah, it's really. It's been scary before where the. To one point, it would not go away for overnight, and I woke up with it, and I almost took myself to the emergency room because it was so painful.
Host
Damn. Hey, Cindy. Good morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 2
Good morning.
Host
Good morning.
Caller 3
I have anxiety attacks. And actually they just started up recently. I had them years ago, and then they started up recently again. When you're un. A lot of stress and a lot of things that are going on, sometimes you don't recognize it as a stress or something bothering you. And the way my anxiety starts up, it's like all of a sudden my heart will race, and then I get like these hot sweats and cold chills, and it's like you just can't control them or anything like that. And I started seeing a doctor. Well, actually, I wound up in the hospital because I got dehydrated. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, couldn't do anything. And we found out it was anxiety attacks. And they put me on low doses of Xanax, and I just. I'm down to taking just like one Xanax a day. And it helps. It helps control it. And so that you can sleep and that you can function. And even just your primary care doctor can give that to you on a temporary basis until you can get the anxieties under control.
Host
How long has this been going on?
Co-host 4
Probably a month and a half. But I used to get anxiety attacks every now and then, like every couple of months. But now it's like reoccurring, like, where it's almost weekly, if not twice a week. So it's getting pretty scary, especially when I had the one for, like, two days.
Host
There's a crapload of people that are saying the exact same thing, that they go through the same thing. Hey, Kim. Good morning.
Caller 2
Good morning.
Host
Good morning.
Caller 2
I just. I wanted to let Wendy know I'm a nurse, first of all. And second, I've dealt with anxiety for many years, and you have to look into not just lifestyle and stressors, but there can also be, like, a chemical imbalance, and it's hereditary. It's nothing that she's done wrong, and it's nothing that her parents did. But there is a chemical released in your brain that is almost like adrenaline. So it's sometimes, you know, when someone comes up and boo scares you, that adrenaline is released, but you have a reason for it to have been released. Well, if you're just sitting on the couch, nothing's going on, and that adrenaline is released, it can be a scary thing. You also need to look at your caffeine intake, what kind of foods you're eating, if you're using any kind of dietary supplements that have a lot of caffeine in them, just kind of take a diary of what you're doing that day and then when they happen, and you'll see there'll be a trend.
Co-host 4
No, I definitely appreciate the advice. I'll do anything at this point to make them stop or make them not occur as often.
Host
At one point or another, you're going to have to go see a doctor about it, either like your general practitioner or a psychiatrist or psychologist about it or Southside Steve.
Co-host 4
I'm always.
Host
That's where it all started, right there.
Co-host 1
He hovers.
Host
So it could happen at any time, any moment.
Co-host 4
It just. Nothing springs it on. Just happens.
Co-host 2
All right.
Host
Are you calm enough to do a traffic right now? No, I feel like I'm.
Bluff
No.
