The Bird show.
Host
Okay, so can intern Erin hear us now? No, she cannot. Okay, cool.
Intern Erin
Oh, today's the day.
Host
Today's the day.
Chumba Casino Announcer
Oh, I love this.
Host
Every now and then when we get a new intern, I hate this. Every now and then when we get a new intern, I like to jack with them. First or second day.
Intern Erin
I love.
Host
The first one we did was flawless.
Co-host
Yeah, it was. Intern Yancy. And we recruited Joanna to help us. And we told Yancy that he was required every single day to go into Burt's office after the show and give Burt positive affirmations about the show that we just did and encourage Burt to put on as good of a show the next day. So we got Joanna to say, come on, I'm gonna go do the affirmations and I'm gonna show you how to do it. And so they would go in the studio or go into Burt's office and we recorded it and talk about how well Burt was dressed that day, how funny he was, how the show just flowed, how the momentum was really compelling. The management of the callers was fantastic. And eventually he had to do it on his own. And he did a good job.
Host
He did a very good job. But he was such a kiss ass. But he did it so good. But then we told him, dude, we're just joking with you. So we've got a new intern here, our intern Erin, who seems like the sweetest, most. The quietest little thing.
Co-host
She is.
Host
Is she just a sweetheart?
Intern Erin
Yeah, she does seem really sweet. I hate this.
Host
Jen is very protective of the interns because this is her department right here.
Co-host
Now, Erin is the short girl from Uruguay.
Intern Erin
No, that's Joanna. Well, at least she got the country. Yeah, that's the country. Joanna that's the first time she ever got the country.
Host
The phone screener, That's Joanna.
Intern Erin
Yeah.
Co-host
Okay.
Host
No, this is a different girl.
Co-host
Aaron's the one who married Scott and had a baby, Ella.
Host
Different girl. That's Tracy.
Co-host
Entertainment buzz girl.
Host
So Aaron is here. It's her second day here, and she said probably, I don't know, six words in the two days that she's been here. Shy little thing just trying to kind of melt into the wall. So what we're gonna do next, and we can't talk about it after right now, is Melissa's newscast is up next. Melissa's not gonna come back in studio for the newscast. So what you won't be able to hear is me off the air telling Aaron, look, nobody can do this. Just go ahead, start reading news. I'm gonna hit the bed. We won't even address it. Just go ahead and start reading news,
Intern Erin
and I'm gonna have to leave.
Co-host
Well, the things are.
Intern Erin
My God. And normally in my newscast, I can just grab, you know, grab papers and make notes and everything, but I've actually scripted it out so it's.
Co-host
She has something to read.
Intern Erin
She has. Yes. I mean, it's doable for her.
Host
She should be able to read it
Intern Erin
and get through the newscast page stories on a different page. And it's. And it's all spaced out. And so I would feel better about this if it was a guy in turn, honestly.
Co-host
Oh, sexist jerk.
Host
Yeah, Brandon,
Intern Erin
because guys can hand. Come on.
Spin Quest Announcer
When there's nothing that is sexist.
Host
Like, why. Last time it was Yancy dude. Okay, He.
Intern Erin
Come on, let's be honest. Guys can't do news. So anyway.
Chumba Casino Announcer
No, I'm just.
Spin Quest Announcer
So. It just makes me wonder what joke you guys are still playing on me.
Host
Nah, you're a veteran now. It's too late for you.
Co-host
I think the advantage we have is because I think I will probably laugh. So I think what we do, it
Intern Erin
won't last long is what I'm saying.
Co-host
No, I think what we do is all of us are out of the studio, and then it's just Bert and Aaron. And then Bert, you have a little bit of panic and go, hey, nobody's back. Will you sit right there, and if I have to go to news, you do it. And then as soon as she starts news, we can all filter in one by one. But. But, you know, the premise is you're supposed.
Intern Erin
Can you really do this? She doesn't have, like, any anxiety issues or anything like that, right? We'll find out. It's her second day.
Host
We're gonna find out in 10 minutes.
Intern Erin
She's a college student.
Host
Look, it's part of the intern program and you are here to learn. And part of this job is dealing with pressure. So we're gonna see how she deals with pressure. So when we come back, I'll hit the news bed. But it won't be Melissa doing news. It will be our intern, Aaron, maybe.
Co-host
Or it'll be the sound of a chair tipping over and someone footsteps running down the hall.
Intern Erin
Or it could be that Aaron comes in and like, kills it.
Host
Kills it, kills it.
Intern Erin
And then I get let go. So whatever.
Co-host
That would be an unfortunate turn of events, wouldn't it, partner?

Hosts: The Bert Show Cast (Bert, Kristin, Abby, Cassie, Tommy & more)
Episode Theme: Intern News Pranks – “Baptism by Fire” on the Morning Radio
This lighthearted episode focuses on a time-honored tradition at The Bert Show: pranking new interns by thrusting them into on-air news segments with little to no warning. The main theme explores how the show's cast initiates new team members, sharing inside jokes, light mischief, and reflections about workplace camaraderie. In this installment, the cast recounts previous intern pranks and prepares a fresh setup for their latest intern, Erin.
The cast shows genuine concern for Erin, touching on anxiety and pressure:
Potential outcomes are humorously debated:
True to The Bert Show’s style, the segment blends playful mischief with a supportive, familial vibe. The hosts are candid about their antics but also show concern for the well-being of their interns. The humor is quick, occasionally self-deprecating, and often irreverent, with plenty of inside jokes and camaraderie evident in their banter.
This episode is a behind-the-scenes look at how The Bert Show tests and welcomes new interns by putting them in the hot seat. Past stories set the stage for this year’s prank on a particularly quiet intern, Erin, as the team prepares to drop her into the studio spotlight. The cast’s good-natured ribbing, concern for Erin’s nerves, and play-by-play of the prank planning make for a humorous and entertaining listen about office culture, radio tradition, and the sometimes-awkward, sometimes-hilarious journey of breaking in new team members.
