You're on the Burt Show. Hi. Katy Perry showed up on Friday. Now we were all on vacation. We took the day off, but Jen was gonna do some business up here near the radio station. And I live so close and Wendy lives so close that we're like, let's just come on in. Let's break format and hang out with Katy Perry.
B
Yeah. When do you get a chance to hang out with Katy Perry in person? Never.
A
So she came in here and she is everything that you see on tv. Really.
C
She is so awesome. Just so sarcastic and cool and just fun to be around. I enjoyed her in studio.
B
A larger than life personality. She's sort of like beaming with personality when you're in the room with her.
A
And she's so charming that I think I realized after the interview that she never answered any questions. Okay. Like, she's very clever in being charming. So she doesn't ever really answer your question.
C
She's just funny.
B
She just goes where she wants to go.
A
She goes where she wants to go. And I don't think I realized it till after the interview, but here's Katy Perry on the Burke Show. Hi.
B
We were in your town. We were in.
A
Yeah, we were in California.
C
Yeah, you look like it. That tan and those Daisy Dukes you're wearing right now.
A
I especially wore the daisies for you.
C
Wow, you're getting pink in the face.
A
I'm not. I did go down.
C
Bring it on I did go to
A
the beach while we were there, though. I went to Santa Monica.
C
Oh, you did?
A
Do you live anywhere near the beach or you're in?
C
I wish. No, I don't. I live in, like, proper Hollywood. You could see the Hollywood sign from where I'm. Where I'm at. Yeah.
A
How'd you pick that neighborhood?
C
Um, because it was. I like living more in, like, proper Hollywood. I didn't want to live in Beverly Hills. It was too stuffy.
A
Yeah.
C
For me. And I didn't want to live in West Hollywood because it's too much of a party. And I just. It was perfect, actually.
B
Do you and your man live together now?
C
Yes.
B
You do?
C
Yeah.
B
When did you move in?
C
We are fornicating.
B
Yeah.
A
I would have thought you guys were gonna save yourself for marriage. I was totally off on that one.
C
Well, I was. I was meant to be in his movie, but they took me out. I even spent the night with him and they still took me out. I did all that work. No, they. The movie comes out next week. He basically filmed some of it at the VMAs two years ago for MTV. And he, like, pretended to make out with Pink and Christina Aguilera because he was. He's like this rock star gone crazy in the. In the movie. And so he did a little cameo with me, but they ended up taking it out because they thought it was too real life.
A
Oh, really?
C
Yeah, they didn't want him. They didn't want people to see him as, like, who he was. They wanted to see him as a character. So it's kind of understandable.
A
Like LA producers seem to me like they think too much sometimes. Like, that's funny to me.
C
Well, yeah, but I mean, it's funny. I think it'll probably be on the DVD extras. I hope so. No, but I think it's probably more appropriate because then you think it's like a reality based movie.
B
I don't know.
A
I guess I wouldn't be.
C
I'll have my acting debut one of these days.
A
Is that something that you want to do?
C
I'm doing animation now. I'm like, I'm doing the Smurfs movie. That's awesome.
B
You're Smurfette, right?
C
I'm Smurfette. It's kind of a weird thing. It's like. It's like my Sasha Fierce. Like, she has her altergo. I'm Smurfalicious. It's kind of freaky. Especially in the bedroom. Hey, Russell.
A
That's not gonna be a big turn on.
C
I Gotta tell you, I don't. Guys don't even really like. I mean, some guys like it, but I don't think guys like it when girls are like, oh, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep.
A
Katy Perry.
C
They also don't like it when we sound like this. Right?
B
It's too early.
C
It's too early.
A
Katy Perry is hanging out at the bird show this morning. We're actually not supposed to be here today. We just came in to hang out with you and we were gonna record this, but we couldn't really figure out how to do that, so we just said, screw it, let's go live.
C
You guys are a professional show.
A
We don't know what we're doing.
C
We like to rate. I would call radio bombing.
B
Radio bombing?
C
Yeah. Like. Like photobombing.
B
This is.
C
We're radio bombing.
A
You were talking about Russell. How are the. The wedding plans going? Is this something that he's really into? Are you bummed that he's, like, not into it?
C
What? No. He is a groomzilla. Oh, yeah.
B
Oh, is he?
C
Oh, my God. Let me tell you something. It's crazy. When we go to breakfast in the morning, sometimes we'll stop at those newsstands and he'll pick up like, the bride magazine and he'll just be like, thumbing through it at breakfast. Dog earring, a couple pages.
B
What has he said? Absolutely must happen on your wedding day.
C
He wants everything monogrammed like the napkins.
A
Really?
C
Yeah, he wants everything monogrammed.
A
Really?
C
I will not, by the way. By the way. I've been planting this story to all media outlets. It's completely false, but they have all been eating it up. They're like, wow, it's like the biggest, like, me in here. He hates it. He absolutely hates it. I'm like, yeah, he's a groomzilla. I'm just. I'm letting you guys know that are listening, that it's completely fake.
A
But it's so fun. Is it really?
C
It's so fun. I live for these moments.
A
So the truth is, he's not into it.
C
No, he's not. I mean, we both have. I mean, we both have, like, all this stuff going on. I didn't know that California girls was gonna be, you know, accepted all over and so fast. So it's a lot of work. I started today at 4:30, which was exciting, and we're just working really hard. And he has his movie coming out and I'm prepping for my record to come out. So before I think we get into the wedding stuff. We have to, like, plan the rest of the stuff.
A
Is it getting to a point where you guys haven't started working on anything so you might push, like, the wedding date back?
C
I want to get married this year.
A
You do?
C
Well, the world is ending in 2012.
A
Of course it is.
C
So, I mean, you better hurry up. I want to eat that top layer of my cake next year.
B
I want to go back a little ways and figure out your love story, how did you guys meet, and that kind of thing. I want to hear the girly side.
C
Oh, let's make people cry while we. Radio bomb. We met at. Well, we first met when I did that cameo at the Video Music Awards, the first one that he hosted. And then we met again. I literally shook his hand, said hi, and then made out with him, which is basically like his life story, but not mine, because I'm a good girl. Girl next door. Girl next door, of course.
A
So immediately thought he was hot. You're like, this is a dude I'm wearing.
C
I thought he was hotter in person. And did you tell him, I hope you're not listening, baby? Yeah, I ended up probably telling him that. And then I met him again at this past Video Music Awards last September. And I had come in for rehearsals because I did his introduction. I sang Queen, who I love, and I had an empty water bottle in my hand. And about 25ft away from me was Russell Brand. And I threw it. Great shot. Hit him smack dab in the head. Modern day Cupid.
A
That was destiny right there.
C
Destiny. And so I have been making him wear a helmet this whole time, making sure nothing else falls on his head.
B
How do your parents feel about Russell?
C
They love him. My parents have had their wild heydays as well, and my dad has quite the testimony, as he calls it. And you know, I think they're. My parents are both continually praying for us. That's good.
A
There were these wild rumors that they didn't like him at all, but Those are all B.S. you're saying?
C
Yeah, I mean, of course, like most stuff on the Internet is pretty much fabricated or exaggerated.
B
I have to ask you about one that's about your ex boyfriend Travis, that he was invited to your wedding.
C
I think we're probably gonna keep it about us.
A
Yeah.
B
Yeah.
A
Is that because Russell didn't want your ex there or.
C
We never even had that conversation. It was one of those kind of fabric, like Internet rumors. Let's see if she falls for it. And that my boobs were fake. And that's just a Shame, because I'll let everybody have a grab and you'll know.
A
Katy Perry hanging out with the Birch Show. I think I read somewhere yesterday that you said that.
C
Fake. Just kidding.
A
No, I think this might be a legitimate answer.
C
Fake. No, it's fake.
A
It said that.
C
I'm not even here right now.
A
This isn't even Katy Perry. That love affected your songwriting.
C
Yes.
A
And now you know how to handle a man Now.
C
Ooh. I must have, like, can you teach me? Been really confident when I said that.
A
That's the advice that I want to hear from women, is like, how do you know when you know how to handle a man?
B
Oh.
C
I mean, I guess I think it's up to each person's own individual situation. I mean, I know how to handle my man. My man. And I don't know if I could handle your man. And I know you don't want me handling your man, but, you know, it's one of those things. This record was affected by where I'm at right now, which kind of has always been the case. One of the Boys was a snapshot of then. And this Teenage Dream is coming out August 24th is a snapshot of now, but it's a bit more evolved. I don't think, like, the fans want me to pull a Chris Gaines necessarily. You know, like how Garth Brooke was like, what happened? I mean, it was interesting, but, like, I think they want me to be me. When they picked up the record, some of them were 14 and 15 and 16. Now they're 17, 18, 19. So their curfews are now midnight or later. And they want something a little bit more substance or spicier. So. And I think it has a lot of different types of dimensions.
A
And that comes out again on August 24th. And then you have the MTV Movie Awards coming up, too, right? You're performing on that?
C
Yeah. On June 6th. You gotta watch it. Tune in.
B
Have a rumor that you are actually Zooey Deschanel.
C
I am. And that's a good one, actually. I really want us to. I really want.
B
You guys are really the same person.
C
You know what I really want? I really want there to be a film about the two twins in the Shining. And I think we. Me and Zoe should play them.
A
Absolutely should.
C
The Shining 2. But about those two girls in the hallway that never said nothing.
A
This is Katy Perry's new one. It's California Girls, and it is on her album that comes out out on August 24th.
C
Thanks, guys.
A
Katy Perry, you were awesome.
C
See you later. Thanks for coming in.
A
Listen it's the Vert show.
