The Bird show all right, here is Barbara from weeks ago. This was I think right after a military dude came back from Afghanistan who was in Iraq.
Host 1
I think he was in Afghanistan, but I also think I'm making that up.
Host 3
Afghanistan.
Host 2
I think you're right.
Host 3
Okay, so this is right that I knew that this is the morning after. And there was some anxiety there too because she was stuck in Chicago and he only had like a three day pass so she was nervous to get home. But things went really, really, really well.
Barbara
I rushed everybody off the. I just put my arms around him and he did pick me up, of course, and everything you have to do that. He is right here if you would like to talk to him.
Host 2
Sure.
Barbara
This is Mitchell. How you doing?
Host 3
How are you, Mitchell?
Barbara
I'm pretty good.
Host 2
Having a pretty good weekend, huh?
Barbara
I'm having an awesome weekend.
Host 3
When you go back to Iraq, how long do you have to go back for?
Barbara
Actually, I only got like two months left on this appointment, incidentally. I got orders to be down in Carolina about two hours away from here.
Host 3
All right, so we should just let this one lie. And I think we even said that when they got off the phone. Like, this is a nice Bert show ending here. Yes, yes, this is good. Closure. We should never talk to them ever again. But you won't allow it. You keep emailing, asking how they're doing. So here is Barbara. Barbara, tell us everything's okay.
Barbara
Everything is great. Yay.
Host 3
Now, is that everything's radio great or everything is really great in real life?
Barbara
Everything is really great in real life. It almost seems like it's a dream.
Host 2
No kidding.
Host 3
Tell us what's been going on?
Barbara
Well, I mean, I haven't talked to him in a few days because he is out on a mission. So just to hear his voice when y' all played it back was kind of, kind of nice. But we are planning on, you know, he comes home actually at the very, very end of July, and he takes a leave in August, which I'm also shooting for. And we're planning the trip to Europe for vacation.
Host 3
Excellent.
Barbara
Yes. So, you know, until the end of the year when he's facing out in Seattle, I'll be, you know, making trips out there so I can see him as often as possible until he comes down to Georgia, which will be in March.
Host 2
Okay.
Host 3
His military relationships are tough, man. Sort of like in them. And then you got to jump start him. That's. That's got to be a little difficult.
Barbara
Yeah. But coming from an army family, I feel like my mom in this situation. So it's actually helped us out a lot because she can. Well, I can relate to her and she's able to talk to me about it and everything like that because my father was also army and was also a drill sergeant and everything like that. So she went through the same thing that I'm going through now.
Host 3
If I remember correctly, like, you guys sort of like dabbled in a relationship years ago and then it sort of went away. Did you always sort of like. I guess I'm trying to get at women's intuition here. Did you always sort of know in the pit of your stomach or your heart that this was the guy?
Barbara
I always knew there was something there, but I mean, I didn't have any way of contacting him. I mean, I thought he was just long gone once we lost touch, once he got deployed. And I talked to some of his friends here and there, and they just said, you know, he's at this place or this place and he's doing well or, you know, he was pretty much always. He always had somebody. And I mean, I, you know, dated as well, but I always wanted to know what happened to him. And so he considers me the girl that got away. But he wanted to find out exactly what was it that we had. And so we did.
Host 3
Aww. Sounds great.
Barbara
We do have something. It's definitely the real deal, and we're definitely into talks of our future.
Host 2
Really.
Barbara
Are you guys dropping the L word already? Yeah, that happened like the second day he was here.
Host 1
Really? Who said it first?
Barbara
I did.
Host 1
Were you drunk?
Barbara
No. That's always the next question. I love drunk. How about that?
Host 1
There you go, well, what about Ambien?
Host 2
And so you guys are talking about getting married?
Barbara
We have talked about it, yes. And actually, in some sort of weird way, he mentioned about rings and he actually guessed my ring size one day when we were at the store, which I thought was really, really strange because I didn't even know my ring size. And he got it exactly right.
Host 3
A lot of guys have proposed to
Barbara
a lot of women.
Host 3
Yeah.
Bretzky
Your size.
Barbara
Not even like that. He's never been engaged or married or anything like that. He doesn't have kids or anything.
Host 3
Did you know?
Barbara
Yeah. So I actually went to look at rings a couple weeks ago when my friend was in town and that was really surreal because I've never done anything like that before.
Host 3
But it's turning out well.
Barbara
Yeah.
Host 3
All right.
Bretzky
That's good.
Host 2
Happy ending.
Host 3
Bookmark this time. Never gonna talk to you again. Things are still going on.
Host 2
Leave it alone.
Host 3
Never gonna talk to you again. Call us if things turn south. But right now, everything seems just fine.
Host 1
We'll check in with you frequently to find out if they're going lousy.
Host 3
No, seriously, congratulations. I'm glad it's worked out for you.
Barbara
Thank you very much. Appreciate it.
Host 3
All right. Thanks for checking in, Barbara.
Barbara
No problem.
Host 3
Bye Bye.
