Mandy (Radio Host)
The Bird show here is Mandy. Good morning, Mandy, you are on Q100.
Caller Mandy
Good morning.
Mandy (Radio Host)
How are you?
Caller Mandy
Well, I'm okay.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Well, you sound like you have your tail between your legs.
Caller Mandy
Yeah, I'm a little worried about what to do here.
Radio Panelist 1
All right, so what happened?
Caller Mandy
Okay, so I moved out of town for a while for work and I kept in touch with my friends, but not that close because we weren't in the same city, we weren't spending time together. But I came back at the beginning of this year for work and I met this guy that was just a hookup guy. Fun. I met him at a. I was out with. We have this thing after work, a restaurant on Thursdays, and he was there. Anyway, so I started hooking up with him, and I'll just. He's the kind of guy that I'll call if I have a couple of drinks. No. But I don't have really any expectations of him or really want it to go any farther. Like, we're not dating. We're just hooking up. And then I was getting together with one of my friends who was like, my best friend when I was living in Atlanta before, and we were catching up. I didn't really know all this stuff. And she started telling me about this guy that she was so upset over because it didn't work out with him. And she's like, it was a while ago, but she can't let it go. And it just upsets her so much. And I'm finding out as she's describing that it's the same guy, which I can't kind of believe because what are the chances of being unrelated that I met him? So now I'm. I feel like I kind of want to still hook up with him. They're not together anymore or anything like that. But at the same time, I sort of feel bad. Like, I just stop hooking up with him because she hates him so much, and he hurt her.
Radio Panelist 2
And it's not a serious thing for you, so.
Radio Panelist 1
But still.
Caller Mandy
No, it's not a serious thing for me. I like it. I like it a lot. I like having someone to call.
Radio Panelist 3
But how good of a friend is this? Because she's eventually gonna find out.
Caller Mandy
When I was living here before, we were really, like, best friends. We did everything together.
Radio Panelist 1
Okay.
Caller Mandy
And we did kind of fall out of touch, and we would just, you know, say, hey, here and there, like on Facebook or. Or something like that.
Mandy (Radio Host)
So this is not a girl that you'll see or talk to once a week.
Caller Mandy
Well, I think that I probably. I would, because I'd like to be close to her again, but it's just not.
Radio Panelist 4
It's not back to where it was before quite yet.
Caller Mandy
Well, no, you know, like, when I got back, I was still just getting settled in with the job, and, like, I'm just getting back in touch with her now.
Radio Panelist 4
I'm surprised that while she's describing this guy like, that you didn't tell her right then in the conversation, like, oh, my God, could have nipped this in the butt and. Cause I'm wondering which part of the story or which revelation did it finally click to you that this was the same guy? Like, obviously, same first Name. And then what detail was it that she shared where you went? This is the same dude.
Caller Mandy
I think it was when she said where he worked.
Radio Panelist 4
Okay.
Radio Panelist 2
Okay.
Caller Mandy
There's also, like, some things about him, like, describing him.
Radio Panelist 4
I'm just surprised that you didn't say it right there in the moment, like, omg, what in the world? I can't believe this happened. Because that'd be really hard to keep that poker face.
Radio Panelist 2
Do you think the friend already knows, do you think?
Caller Mandy
No, I don't think she does at all.
Radio Panelist 4
You don't think girls don't hold back like that? No. Especially if it's her Antichrist.
Radio Panelist 1
Yeah.
Radio Panelist 4
That would be as soon as she found out. Her first phone call would be to Mandy.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Here is Jackie. Good morning, Jackie. You are part of the Burt show. La.
Caller Mandy
Hi, guys.
Radio Panelist 3
How are y'?
Caller Mandy
All?
Mandy (Radio Host)
Okay, thanks.
Radio Panelist 3
She needs to leave it alone. And I'm talking from experience. Two things. Make sure that he doesn't know. Because that would be, like, a huge notch for him. Make sure he doesn't know. Second, I've been through this. Just. It's not worth it if just it's her wonderfulness is your, like, hookup, so leave it alone. You're gonna lose a friend for nothing. For booty call.
Mandy (Radio Host)
What are the chances that you and this guy are gonna be really long term? You guys are in the beginning of this relationship. So many different things can still go wrong at this point. If you really, really respect your friendship, then you'll just dump this guy and not think twice about it.
Caller Mandy
Yeah.
Radio Panelist 1
And there's a part of me, too, that I would take it as a red flag. Like, if she was in a relationship with him and he ended up being the Antichrist, There's a part of me, he's, like, really in a relationship. He may, you know, kind of be a jerk, so why even pursue it?
Mandy (Radio Host)
Of course, you never know what she did to Spy.
Radio Panelist 1
But in my mind, I would think, you know, maybe he's not this great guy.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Hey, Kerry. Good morning.
Radio Panelist 3
Hey.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Hey, Kerry Show.
SpinQuest Advertiser
What's up?
Radio Panelist 3
Good morning, y'. All.
Mandy (Radio Host)
What's going on?
Radio Panelist 3
Okay, either the friend knows or the guy knows. I think they do. And the friend is just kind of passively, aggressively trying to get her to not date him. Somebody knows?
Radio Panelist 1
I don't think so.
Radio Panelist 2
What would the guy. That's nothing to do with anything.
Mandy (Radio Host)
I think the guy.
Caller Mandy
What did you say?
Radio Panelist 2
I said, I don't know. Like, why would you say the guy knows?
Radio Panelist 3
Like, I don't know. I mean, my first thought is that the Friend knows, really, she's dating her ex. And I mean, regardless if the guy's an Antichrist, you still don't want your homegirl to be dating your ex, you
Caller Mandy
know, So I think she.
Radio Panelist 4
She definitely would not want that, but I don't think she would be passive aggressive about it. Somebody that makes you that emotional that, you know, they broke up a while ago and she's still so hung up on it that she's telling her friend who just came back into town about it. She doesn't know. There's no way that her friend knows.
Radio Panelist 2
The. It's possible, though, to have an Antichrist in your life that you never really dated.
Mandy (Radio Host)
You know what I mean?
Radio Panelist 2
Like, you could. Oh, God.
Radio Panelist 4
I had friends in college that were that way about guys that they just like, chose to be obsessed with.
Mandy (Radio Host)
And the guy didn't really do anything. He just wasn't involved.
Caller Mandy
Yeah.
Radio Panelist 2
The guy that got right, he was
Radio Panelist 4
never in a relationship with him.
Radio Panelist 2
Yeah. Hook up once at a bar. Yes. And then you're like, oh, my God, we gotta go back to, you know, Moondogs. Cuz Bird's gonna be there. We gotta go, we gotta go. And then they hover around, you see
Mandy (Radio Host)
this goose, they end up crying at 2:30 in the morning.
Radio Panelist 2
Right. Because you didn't. Because you never talked to her yet. You didn't even know they were there to see you.
Radio Panelist 4
Right.
Radio Panelist 2
So if it's. If that was the situation, then I think Mandy hears you. Keep doing what you were doing. It doesn't matter.
Radio Panelist 3
It just depends.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Hey, Kate, Good morning. You're on the Burt Show.
Radio Panelist 3
Good morning. I love you guys. So this is almost the same exact situation happened to me earlier this year. And it's actually my roommate who I've known since, like, first grade. And she went to Georgia with a guy and hooked up with him for about three years there. And I knew this. And when I moved here, I became friends with him and swore that I wouldn't, you know, let anything happen, but of course it did. And we ended up hooking up for about three months. And I didn't tell her. And then I just felt so guilty about it that one day I just sat down and started bawling. And it ended up working out fine because she told me he's actually an awful guy. So it's fine that you're dating him now? I mean, I'm not dating him now, but we just kind of made amends with it and it worked out well for everyone.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Thank you for calling.
Radio Panelist 2
What did she say?
Radio Panelist 3
Well, yeah, she was dating her friends and Antichrist and then it ended up not working out. But the friend was happy she was dating him.
Radio Panelist 1
Yeah, she said he's a jerk, so you can have him.
Mandy (Radio Host)
I think you just gotta define how much you really dig this guy and how much you define, you know, how deep your friendship is with this girl. I mean, it's a pretty slam dunk decision.
Radio Panelist 1
You can't successfully have both.
Mandy (Radio Host)
No.
Radio Panelist 4
No.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Ain't gonna happen.
Caller Mandy
Okay, I guess I see what you're saying. Yeah. Okay.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Okay. Mandy, thank you so much.
Caller Mandy
Thank you.
Radio Panelist 2
She's not gonna do anything about it.
Radio Panelist 1
Yeah.
Commercial Announcer
No.
Mandy (Radio Host)
I felt empty by that whole conversation. I don't know that I even followed it correctly from the beginning cuz it didn't seem like that big a deal. Seemed like a pretty easy decision.
Radio Panelist 1
Yeah, I'm. I'm. I'm not sure why she's so conflicted.
Radio Panelist 2
Well, I guarantee if we call her back one week from today, she's still going to be seeing the.
Commercial Announcer
Yeah, of course.
Radio Panelist 2
Yeah.
Radio Panelist 4
I mean, sometimes the hookup is that good, Bert.
Radio Panelist 3
You just need it.
Mandy (Radio Host)
Well, then you don't call a radio station and ask, you know, it's that good. Don't call us. Keep going back. Probably not going to happen again for a while.
Radio Panelist 1
Don't discourage people from calling us with their drama.

Main Cast: Bert, Kristin, Abby, Cassie, Tommy & the Bert Show Cast
Main Topic: Listener drama—A woman wrestles with guilt over secretly hooking up with a guy her former best friend still has feelings for.
In this episode, the show explores a classic friendship dilemma: what happens when your casual hookup turns out to be your friend's heartache? The episode features a listener, Mandy, who comes clean about her tangled situation and seeks advice from the cast and other listeners. The conversation is spirited, honest, and full of banter as the Bert Show gang weighs the importance of friendship versus fleeting romance.
Background: Mandy had moved away for work, lost touch with her "best friend" from Atlanta, and on returning, started casually hooking up with a guy.
The Twist: Reconnecting with her friend, Mandy learns her friend is still emotional about an ex—the very guy Mandy’s been sleeping with.
Feelings: Mandy likes the no-strings-attached hookup but feels guilty, unsure whether to stop to spare her friend's feelings.
Quote:
"I sort of feel bad. Like, I just stop hooking up with him because she hates him so much, and he hurt her."
—Manday (03:46)
Friendship Status: They've grown apart but Mandy would like to rebuild the friendship.
Missed Confession: The cast is surprised Mandy didn’t immediately confess to her friend upon realizing the connection.
Quote:
"I'm surprised that while she's describing this guy… you didn't tell her right then in the conversation, like, oh my god, could have nipped this in the butt."
—Panelist 4 (04:38)
Advice from Listeners: Jackie (another caller) advises Mandy to leave it alone: “You’re gonna lose a friend for nothing.” (06:07)
Probability Check: The hosts point out the casual nature of Mandy and the guy’s relationship. They suggest the long-term prospects are slim and losing a friend isn’t worth it.
Character Judgment: The idea is floated that if he was “the Antichrist” to her friend, maybe he’s not a great catch.
Quote:
"What are the chances that you and this guy are gonna be really long term?... If you really, really respect your friendship, then you’ll just dump this guy and not think twice about it."
—Mandy (Radio Host) (06:07)
Speculation: Some speculate the friend might know about Mandy’s connection to the guy and is subtly warning her off.
Disagreement: Other panelists doubt it—if the friend knew, the drama would be much more obvious and direct.
Quote:
"Somebody that makes you that emotional… there's no way that her friend knows."
—Panelist 4 (07:34)
Panel anecdotes: The panel discusses how friendships can be colored by crushes or one-sided obsessions, not just real relationships.
Quote:
"It's possible, though, to have an Antichrist in your life that you never really dated."
—Panelist 2 (07:34)
Caller Kate’s Story: She shares a similar situation—a secret hookup with her roommate’s ex that ended with honesty, relief, and no long-term friendship damage.
Quote:
"It ended up working out fine because she told me he's actually an awful guy. So it's fine that you're dating him now? I mean, I'm not dating him now, but we just kind of made amends with it and it worked out well for everyone."
—Kate (08:52)
Simplifying the Decision: The hosts insist Mandy has to prioritize: is the friend more important, or is the hookup?
Consensus: It’s clear to the hosts—you can’t have both; one will lose out.
Skepticism: The show doubts Mandy will change her behavior.
Quotes:
"You can't successfully have both."
—Panelist 1 (09:32)
"If it's that good, don't call us. Keep going back."
—Mandy (Radio Host) (10:04)
Panelist Real Talk:
"I felt empty by that whole conversation. I don't know that I even followed it correctly from the beginning cuz it didn't seem like that big a deal. Seemed like a pretty easy decision."
—Mandy (Radio Host) (09:45)
On the Power of Booty Calls:
"Sometimes the hookup is that good, Bert."
—Panelist 4 (10:00)
Playful Skepticism:
"Well, I guarantee if we call her back one week from today, she's still going to be seeing the guy."
—Panelist 2 (09:55)
The typical Bert Show mix of humor, candor, and a little tough love makes this episode a relatable, lively take on real-world friend drama and messy romantic entanglements.
