Host (Pete)
The bird show. Let's get Anna on the voice disguiser here. We do this segment from time to time called am I Normal? And it basically is about little quirky things that you do that you're not really sure anybody else does. There's a lot of comfort in knowing that others do it like this.
Caller 1
She'll make me play sleeping beauty with her. She'll lie down in the bed and she'll make me go outside the room and then come in and do a whole dialogue. Be like, oh, who's this I see? Is this sleeping beauty?
Anna
Are you kidding me?
Caller 1
No. And I'll have to go over and give her a kiss. And if I don't do it right, I gotta do it again.
Host (Pete)
All right. That's pretty quirky. That's pretty quirky.
Caller 2
I fold my jeans before I put them in the dryer.
Caller 3
Told you guys that Crazy.
Caller 4
Really?
Anna
Mm.
Host (Pete)
I wasn't here that day. I can't take the the plastic coating off of any electronics like a clock radio or my cell phone camera. I just hate taking the plastic off
Caller 2
of that little peely film.
Host (Pete)
I'll keep it on there for months because it doesn't feel like it's. It's used until that's off.
Caller 3
And I shared how every time I climb stairs, whether it's three or a row of 12 stairs that I always feel like I'm going up to receive my Oscar. So that's the steps up to the Oscar podium.
Caller 4
And I pretend I'm a NASCAR going over the top noodle on spaghetti junction because I feel like I'M on a NASCAR curve. I don't drive a stick shift. I pretend I drive a stick shift.
Caller 3
So I'm like, dog noodle.
Caller 2
That's awesome.
Host (Pete)
So the last time we did this segment here, Anna emailed us. Hey. Hey, Anna.
Anna
Hey.
Host (Pete)
Yours was so unusual. We said, okay, we're going to dedicate a whole segment to this one. What is the quirk?
Anna
Well, recently I admitted to my boyfriend a secret that I think all girls do because I thought he would think that it was funny and cute and. Well, basically I told him that every girl does it. And the way I'm going to prove it is by going to you.
Spinquest Announcer
Okay.
Caller 3
Okay.
Anna
This is the secret. I. When I cook for my friends, like when they come over for dinner, I purposely give them fatty food so they'll take in more calories and gain weight, and I'll be the scanning friends.
Caller 2
And what do you eat?
Anna
Well, I eat the same thing. I just cook, like, with higher fat and like butter and. Yeah. So basically I do this. And I think that most girls do it. I don't think it's, like, and original thing, but he was. My boyfriend was appalled. He was so upset.
Host (Pete)
It's probably the most superficial thing I've ever heard in my life.
Caller 3
So basically, if you cook for your friends, you give them more calories than you give yourself, and then eventually you're gonna be the skinny friend. I've never heard this in my life. I have never heard this either.
Host (Pete)
We've got four women in here right now.
Caller 5 (Wendy)
Wendy.
Caller 4
No, I've never done that.
Host (Pete)
Melissa.
Caller 3
I'm the exact opposite. If Katie brings any kind of sweets or anything in the house, I indulge the whole thing before she gets a chance. So I actually let her be the skinny friend.
Caller 2
Yeah. I cannot imagine my friends doing that.
Host (Pete)
Now, is this the kind of case where there are some women that do this, they just never talk about it?
Caller 3
I've never heard it.
Caller 2
Honestly, I don't think so.
Host (Pete)
So, honestly, you guys have never, ever done this?
Caller 3
I've never even thought to do it.
Caller 2
That's a good question. No, not normal. That is not normal. Why are you doing that to your friends? They're obviously not like, good friends of yours then.
Anna
No, they are good friends, but, you know, like, they.
Caller 1
It's.
Anna
The weight thing is just, like, so intense for us. Like, we're all in the gym all the time and all always trying to lose weight, and it just bothers me that it just takes up so much of our friendship talking about how fat or skinny we are. It's just very annoying, so.
Caller 3
Well, that's not the reasons, because they. Are they getting better results than you when you go to the gym and everything?
Anna
Yeah.
Host (Pete)
You initially said because you wanted to be the skinny girl, so it. This is really. It's pretty petty.
Caller 2
It's really petty.
Anna
I mean, I understand why you think that, but, I mean, I feel like I can't be the only one that does this. I really feel that it's kind of normal, and I want to prove to my boyfriend that it is.
Host (Pete)
Okay. Well, I don't think you're gonna be very successful. Good morning, Betty. You're on Q100.
Caller 1
Yeah.
Caller 6 (Melissa)
That is totally, totally weird.
Caller 5 (Wendy)
Oh, my God.
Anna
I've never heard anything like that.
Host (Pete)
Yeah, and you're gonna find the same thing over and over and over again here. Hey, Caitlin. Good morning.
Caller 5 (Wendy)
Good morning. I just. I want to tell her that. That. That's ridiculous. That's not a good friend. I mean, me and actually, through my three best friends since January 4th, have been doing, like, a diet and weight, and we do the. We fit and everything, and we send each other text messages with healthy tips. I mean, that's a good friend, but you don't sabotage your friend's food to make them gain weight to benefit yourself. That's so selfish.
Caller 6 (Melissa)
I swear.
Caller 2
This is so weird.
Caller 4
I know. Why sabotage your friends?
Caller 2
And, like, how is that really going to work? How often are you cooking for your friends?
Anna
They come over, like, maybe once, twice a week.
Host (Pete)
Really?
Anna
Yeah.
Host (Pete)
Hey, Cameron. Good Morning. You're on Q100. Hi.
Caller 5 (Wendy)
Hey.
Caller 6 (Melissa)
I just wanted to make a comment. I do girls dinner every week with my friends, and we make a point of cooking healthy items and really just enjoying each other's time. And I think, you know, a good friend is going to be somebody that wants you to feel good and look good all the time.
Host (Pete)
So you don't do this either?
Caller 6 (Melissa)
No, absolutely not.
Caller 3
I mean, what makes it even more rude is you see the effort they put into the gym, and you said it takes up so much your friendship that you know their concerns and you know what their goal is and that you. Yeah. Purposely feed them more calories and fat.
Host (Pete)
And I can't find one person that says that they've ever done this, not even secretly. Hey, Jason. Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 3
Or is it.
Host (Pete)
This is Pete. Hey, Pete.
Caller 3
Hey, Pete.
Host (Pete)
Pete Pie.
Caller 5 (Wendy)
Hello.
Caller 2
Hello.
Host (Pete)
What's your name?
Caller 6 (Melissa)
P.J.
Host (Pete)
p.J.
Caller 6 (Melissa)
P works, too. But I was just wondering, what is wrong with her?
Caller 5 (Wendy)
Seriously, I just think that's so wrong.
Caller 6 (Melissa)
Why would you do that to someone you care about. When I have company over, I'm trying to impress my friends with my cooking skills.
Host (Pete)
Yeah, there's no but. I can't find anybody to agree with you. Not one. I mean, and normally when we do anything on the show, we get representation for at least one person representing another side, not one person.
Caller 3
And we have the voice disguiser. So it's not like somebody who secretly does this couldn't call up and disguise themselves and confess to them.
Host (Pete)
Hey, Stephanie, Good Morning. You're on Q100.
Caller 6 (Melissa)
Hey, I just wanted to say I don't personally do this, but I think that it is more common than you guys think.
Caller 2
Really?
Caller 3
You don't do this? But why do you think that?
Caller 6 (Melissa)
Because, like, I'll. I'll bake and stuff for my friends, and I don't force it down their throat, but they like it and they eat it and they take it from
Caller 3
me, but they know what it is.
Host (Pete)
And at any point in your thought process when you're making those foods, do you think that they're gonna gain weight? And that's a good thing for you because you'll look better around them?
Caller 6 (Melissa)
Not necessarily it's a good thing for me.
Caller 5 (Wendy)
I don't know.
Caller 6 (Melissa)
I believe in the fat and happy kind of thing. And I don't know. I'm not saying I do it and I want them to be fat, but I. In a twisted kind of way, I think that it happens more than you guys think.
Host (Pete)
I can't find anything.
Caller 3
I mean, you've said that, and our caller said that, but there's no proof.
Host (Pete)
I can't find one person, and her
Caller 3
example is not secretive. If I'm baking brownies and I present them to my friends, they know they're brownies, and I know how fattening that can be, and they know the choice to take it or not. But our caller is purposely secretly putting extra stuff in their food.
Host (Pete)
Here's Mark.
Spinquest Announcer
Good Morning.
Host (Pete)
You're on Q100.
Caller 1
Hey. I just wanted to say I have a friend who would actually stop hanging around with her other friend if they become less attractive or gain weight, she stops hanging around.
Caller 3
Yeah, that's opposite of what we're talking about. But I mean.
Caller 1
Yeah, I mean, I thought it was horrible. I mean, I actually stopped hanging around with her.
Caller 3
Yeah.
Caller 1
Yeah.
Host (Pete)
So it's a little different than what we're talking about, but I guess he's
Caller 3
talking about the depth of pettiness that, you know, you can have.
Host (Pete)
Annie, your boyfriend, or whomever is right. Because There are two things always. We can find representation from the other side. And then when I say that we can't find anybody to call from the other side, that's normally when we'll get the call. And even that it's not coming in, that's not working. Nobody. Not one.
Caller 2
I just don't understand why you would want to sabotage your friends. You must be really, really insecure.
Anna
Well, I mean, I don't. I feel like maybe everyone's not telling the truth and you're not getting calls in because it's a little embarrassing. And I am just coming out and saying it.
Host (Pete)
But what I'm saying is, I mean, you know this because you're on it. We have the voice disguiser, so there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Somebody can come on and say it, but there's not one call.
Caller 3
I mean, I think you're being defensive about it by thinking that, but I think we've proven to you that, yeah, no, you're one of the few. And. And what satisfaction. Okay, let's say it works and your friends gain weight and you're the skinny friend. What satisfaction do you get in that, knowing that deep down, you did it?
Anna
Well, it's not satisfaction of making them fat. It's that when we go out, I'll get all the attention.
Caller 3
Seriously, why do you want all the
Caller 2
attention if you have a boyfriend?
Anna
Because I never get it. I never get the attention. It's always the other girls.
Caller 6 (Melissa)
I want.
Anna
I want it. My turn.
Host (Pete)
You got problems, girl.
Caller 3
So you're jealously jealous of these other girls.
Host (Pete)
I appreciate your honesty for the show, but you got problems.
Caller 2
Yeah, I think instead of cooking for your friends, you should spend the money on therapy.
Host (Pete)
Seriously. Now, in all fairness, we have talked to women before on the show that have admitted to surrounding themselves with women that don't look as good as they do. So they will get attention, but they have never purposely gone out of their way to make. To sabotage the look of their friends so they could look better. That's a different level.
Caller 3
Yeah, I think there's levels of jealousy. You know, every woman goes out and every woman has either gotten the attention or she's been the one that's been slighted and had no attention whatsoever. And, yeah, it doesn't feel good. You know, it just reminds you, okay, yes, I'm not as pretty as this girl, or I don't look as good as her tonight. But, I mean, but you brush it off. That's just how the night goes. You don't all of a sudden become, I don't know, the sneaky saboteur, you know?
Host (Pete)
And if your goal was to find somebody that does or a whole bunch of people that do the same thing, it ain't happening. Not one other call.
Caller 3
And did you tell your boyfriend it's your turn to get the attention? Like, I'm curious how your boyfriend would take it that the reason you do it is because you're not getting enough attention from other guys.
Anna
No, of course I would never tell him that.
Caller 3
I think that should be a clue to you on how wrong it is.
Host (Pete)
And please tell me that you told him that you would. That you'd be on the radio today talking about this. So he's listening?
Anna
Yeah, he's listening.
Caller 3
Okay.
Commercial Announcer
There you go.
Caller 4
Good luck in the relationship.
Caller 3
Yeah.
Host (Pete)
Good luck with that. Thank you, Anna.
Caller 5 (Wendy)
Thanks.

Main Cast: Pete (Host), Anna (Caller, using voice disguiser), Wendy, Melissa, additional callers
This episode of The Bert Show dives head-first into a real-life confession from a listener, Anna, who reveals a controversial secret: she intentionally cooks fattier, high-calorie meals for her friends so that she can remain the "skinniest" in her group. The hosts and additional callers dissect Anna's behavior, questioning whether this is "normal," or as Anna believes, a more common practice among women than is openly discussed.
The show grapples with themes of jealousy, friendship, body image, and the lengths some go to feel noticed or valued within their social circles.
“When I cook for my friends, like when they come over for dinner, I purposely give them fatty food so they'll take in more calories and gain weight, and I'll be the skinny friend.” (Anna, 02:54)
“The weight thing is just, like, so intense for us. Like, we're all in the gym all the time and all always trying to lose weight, and it just bothers me that it just takes up so much of our friendship talking about how fat or skinny we are.” (Anna, 04:19)
“I'm not saying I do it and I want them to be fat, but I ... think that it happens more than you guys think.” (Melissa (Caller 6), 07:55)
“...it's not satisfaction of making them fat. It's that when we go out, I'll get all the attention.” (10:00)
“You don't all of a sudden become, I don't know, the sneaky saboteur, you know?” (Caller 3, 11:13)
If you missed this episode, you missed a jaw-dropping confession and an incisive group dialogue on friendship, body image, and honesty. The Bert Show’s cast and listeners rally together to clarify that intentionally sabotaging friends—especially under the guise of “everyone does it”—is not just abnormal, but damaging and unnecessary.
