Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's bible verse, Psalm 59. 8 says, But Lord, you laugh at them. You scoff at the hostile nations. Saul doesn't just want to get to know David, he wants to kill him. When David killed Goliath, he became a local hero. And the people give David, not Saul, the credit for winning the war against the Philistines. Saul becomes extremely jealous of David and feels threatened by him too. He tries at least 16 different times to kill David. In the middle of all of that, David marries Saul's daughter Michal, and he becomes friends with Saul's son Jonathan. Both Jonathan and Michal work to save David's life. When the murder attempts won't stop, Jonathan helps David escape to safety. David writes two psalms while his life is being threatened, remembering God's past faithfulness, trusting in God's present protection, and putting his life and future in God's hands. He's preaching the truth to himself and to all of us. God laughs, but the Bible only mentions that he laughs at his enemies. His laughter should be a comfort to his kids because it means that he's not worried. Even the fiercest army or the biggest problem doesn't make God scared. He's already defeated his and our enemies. He can laugh because he knows that nothing can get in the way of his good plans. He's victorious, and he's where the joy is.
