In 2 Samuel 7:20, David says to God, what more can I say to you? You know what your servant is really like, Sovereign Lord. After what happened the first time David tried to move the ark, he's scared to do it again. He's left the ark at someone's house on the way to Jerusalem, but knows he needs to bring it into the city. David remembers how God blesses his friends and he's not afraid anymore. He brings the Ark to Jerusalem. His first wife, Michal, is unhappy about David's dancing and even about what he's wearing. But David keeps celebrating anyway. David wants to build a house for God. So he talks to Nathan, a prophet who who thinks it's a great idea. But later, when God reveals to Nathan that he was wrong, Nathan has to go back to David and tell him that God says no. The right plan isn't following our heart's desires, even if they're good desires. The right path is following our God. God tells David that he has something bigger in store. God's going to build him a house through his family. One of David's descendants will build God a house, and another descendant will build a kingdom. David is overwhelmed by God's kindness and wants everyone on Earth to see how good God is. Today's Baja God knows everything about us, including every desire we have in our hearts. If he says no to our prayers, it's the best, kindest answer he can give us. He told Moses no. He told David no. And sometimes he will tell you no too. And even if you don't understand why, you can trust that the answer is for his glory and your good. He's where the joy is.
