Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verb, Psalm 37. 4 says, Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your heart's desires. Remember that we read some stories more than once in the Bible. So we're back with David. Today he's getting old and sick, and his oldest living son, Adonijah, decides he wants to be king. Solomon is David's oldest son with Bathsheba. But David had other sons before Solomon. Remember that? His first two sons, Ammon and Absalom, were both killed. Adonijah was the next oldest. Adonijah even rides horses and chariots all through the town, which basically means that he's declaring himself to be the king King. But God's plans won't be stopped, and Solomon is anointed as the next king of Israel. Right before David dies, he gives Solomon a list of people to kill in revenge for the ways they had hurt David's family and threatened his life. After David dies, Solomon has them killed. The psalms we read today remind us of different times in David's life. When David delighted in God, when God carried David through hard times, and when God gave David victory over those who tried to harm him. God covers all our sin. When David died, there was still sin in his heart. Does that mean his entire life was wasted or ruined? No. Hebrews 11 and 12 tells us that David is one of the ancestors of our faith. David couldn't earn his way back into God's family no matter how hard he tried. God put David in his family, and we can't earn our way into God's family either. God puts us there. By his mercy and grace, he covers all the sins of his kids, past, present and future. With Jesus, death and resurrection, he's where the joy is.
