Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's bible. Verse. In 1 Kings 3. 9, Solomon says to the Lord, give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours? Solomon's reign starts off not so great. He had a few people killed because his dad asked him to. And then he marries a woman who's not an Israelite because he wants to make sure that her people won't hurt Israel. And while this may seem like a smart idea, it shows that Solomon doesn't trust God to take care of his people. Besides, God had given rules for the Israelites about not marrying people from other nations. And now Solomon gives sacrifices to false gods, probably thinking that he should cover all his bases just in case the false gods turn out to be real ones. But the thing about Solomon is that he also loves the one true God who comes to him in a dream. The Lord tells Solomon to ask him for whatever he wants. So Solomon asks God for wisdom. God is happy with Solomon's request and gives him wisdom, riches, and a long life. Solomon has a chance to prove his wisdom right away through a story you may have heard before. There are two women who both say that a baby belongs to them. And Solomon uses his wisdom to to figure out who the baby's real mom is. The people of Israel see that his wisdom comes from God. Today, God is patient with us. Solomon was worshiping other gods when God showed up and asked Solomon what he wanted. Solomon says he wants God's way, but spoiler alert, like all of us, he won't always, always live like it. Solomon will sin and turn away from God and fail. And even still, God won't give up on him. He's where the joy is. For our monthly bonus episode, we are bringing back our dear friend, Ms. Tara Lee. She's going to help us recap all the things we've learned this whole month. She'll join us as we do an overview of the big story and answer a big question each month. So be sure to check out our monthly bonus episode as we read, understand and love God's word together.
