Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse, Proverbs chapter 6, verses 16 through 19 says there are six things the Lord hates. No. 7 He haughty eyes, a lying tongue. Hands that kill the innocent, A heart that plots. Evil feet that race to do wrong. A false witness who pours out lies. A person who sows discord in a family. So far in Proverbs, a dad is giving his son advice for living a wise life, which includes seeing God with delight and awe. That's what we mean when we say fearing God. When you know that you need wisdom, you try to find it, which gives you more wisdom. It's similar to our relationship with God. When you know you need God, you look for him and you try to find him, which brings you closer to Him. It's a mystery of life and faith that we like to explain. Like this. God is the source, the supply and the goal. Proverbs dad also warns his son many times to stay away from evil and to be faithful to his wife. He prays a blessing over their love and marriage. And we also get some advice here that reminds us Proverbs isn't a book of God's laws. The dad tells the son not to lend money to anyone. But God had already given his people a law about how to lend money to each other with kindness. So while the dad thinks he's giving great advice, that's all it is, advice. It's not God's law today, by God. God hates the things that attack what he loves. Proverbs 6 tells us the things that he hates. We read those at the beginning of our episode today. So what are the things he loves? Humility, honesty, innocence and justice. Purity, righteousness, truth and peacemaking. These things are beautiful and they also describe God. When we become more like the things God loves, we become more like Him. He's where the joy is.

In this episode of The Bible Recap Kids, Miss Emily explores Proverbs chapters 4 through 6. She focuses on King Solomon’s wisdom, a father’s advice to his son, the distinctions between wise guidance and God’s laws, and the importance of growing in godly character. Special attention is placed on Proverbs 6:16–19, where the host discusses what God hates and, contrastively, what He loves.
"Seeing God with delight and awe. That's what we mean when we say fearing God." (01:10)
The pursuit of wisdom mirrors seeking God: wanting to know more draws us closer to both wisdom and God.
Miss Emily sums it up:
"When you know you need wisdom, you try to find it, which gives you more wisdom. It's similar to our relationship with God. When you know you need God, you look for him and you try to find him, which brings you closer to Him." (01:20)
She describes God as,
"the source, the supply and the goal." (01:43)
Proverbs dad warns:
Not every piece of advice in Proverbs is a direct command from God. For example:
"The dad thinks he's giving great advice, but that's all it is, advice. It's not God's law." (02:13)
Proverbs 6:16–19 lists things God hates:
Miss Emily explains,
"God hates the things that attack what he loves." (02:25)
She contrasts this with what God loves:
"These things are beautiful and they also describe God. When we become more like the things God loves, we become more like Him." (02:42)
Miss Emily closes with her signature encouragement:
"He's where the joy is." (02:50)
On seeking wisdom and God:
"When you know you need wisdom, you try to find it, which gives you more wisdom. It's similar to our relationship with God. When you know you need God, you look for him and you try to find him, which brings you closer to Him." — Miss Emily (01:20)
On advice vs. God's law:
"The dad thinks he's giving great advice, but that's all it is, advice. It's not God's law." — Miss Emily (02:13)
On loving what God loves:
"When we become more like the things God loves, we become more like Him. He's where the joy is." — Miss Emily (02:42)
Miss Emily maintains a warm, encouraging, and simple tone, accessible for kids. She clarifies tricky concepts (such as the difference between wise advice and God’s law), stresses the importance of pursuing both wisdom and a relationship with God, and cheerfully invites listeners to grow in the qualities that reflect God’s own character. This episode highlights how Proverbs is both practical and deeply spiritual, offering a roadmap to becoming more like God—a journey full of joy.
