Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse 1 Kings 19:12 says,
Narrator
after the earthquake there was a fire. But the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper. We meet two prophets today, and we're about to meet many more. So let's stop and review what a prophet is. Prophet is really close to the word prophecy, which was a word to remember.

Word to remember.

A prophecy is a message. God speaks to people through a person. We call the people who speak the messages prophets.
Narrator
Elijah, a prophet who tells people the truth about God, confronts northern Israel's King Ahab about his sinful ways. Elijah tells Ahab a drought is on the way. In the third year of the drought, God informs Elijah that it's time for rain. Elijah challenges Ahab and 450 prophets of Baal, a false God, to see whose God is best. He brings two bulls up to the top of a mountain to see whose God will burn up the sacrifice. In acceptance of it, the prophets of BAAL cry for hours and they even cut themselves. But nothing happens to their bull. Then Elijah drenches the altar, the wood and the ground around his bull with water. God sends fire from heaven, burning up the bull, the wet wood, the stones and the dirt. Wow. The people of northern Israel worship God and the drought is over. When Ahab's wife Jezebel, a BAAL worshiper, hears what happened, she is furious. She promises to kill Elijah. So he hides out in southern Judah. He's lonely and scared. But God speaks to him, instructing Elijah to appoint two kings and a prophet. The prophet's name is Elisha with an S. Remember him because we're going to read a lot more about him soon.

God does big and powerful things.
Narrator
And he does small and beautiful things too. God brought a tornado, an earthquake and a fire. But Elijah already knew how powerful God was. Elijah needed to hear God in the whisper. God is powerful enough to send an earthquake and he's close enough to whisper. He's where the joy is.
