Hey, Bible readers. I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's bible verb. In 1 Kings 21:29, the Lord says to Elijah, do you see how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has done this, I will not do what I promised. During his lifetime, northern Israel is at war with Syria. A prophet tells King Ahab that he'll win, even though his army is smaller. The prophet instructs Ahab on what to do after the war. Wipe out all of the enemy. But the Syrian king asks for mercy, and Ahab spares his life. Now, this sounds like a good move, but it is the exact opposite of God's command. Another prophet comes to call Ahab out on his sin. But Ahab doesn't repent. He decides what he needs isn't repentance, but more land. He demands land from his neighbor Naboth, who says no. And now Ahab's wife, Jezebel is back. Like the deceiver she is. She writes a letter pretending to be her husband and invites Naboth over for dinner. Instead of honoring God at the feast like they said they would, they kill Naboth. Then Ahab takes Naboth's land. What a sad, sinful mess. God sends Elijah to tell Ahab that because of Jezebel's sin, Ahab, Jezebel, and all their family members will die. But Ahab repents. He turns away from his sin and turns toward God. And God shows mercy. Today, by God. God keeps his promises. The only time he modifies them is when he's giving mercy or grace. And this is what happens with ahab. Even though 2125 tells us that no one else so completely sold himself to what was evil in the Lord's sight as Ahab did, God showed Ahab mercy. God loves to show mercy and grace, even to those who do wicked things. He is eager to forgive, and he's where the joy is.

In this episode, Miss Emily guides young listeners through the dramatic story of King Ahab’s battles, his choices, and God’s response to his actions in 1 Kings chapters 20 and 21. The main theme revolves around God’s instructions, Ahab’s repeated mistakes, and—most powerfully—God’s mercy even for those who seem most undeserving.
