Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's bible verse. In 2 Kings, chapter 10, verse 30, the Lord says to Jehu, you have done well in following my instructions to destroy the family of Ahab. Therefore, your descendants will be kings of Israel, down to the fourth generation. In ancient Israel, God runs the nation, and he speaks through prophets. So prophets are powerful. They even get to anoint kings. Elisha sends a prophet to anoint Jehu as Israel's next king. But Jehu also has to fulfill God's prophecy by wiping out all of Ahab's descendants, including the current king of northern Israel, Joram. Ahab's wickedness meant that even though he had already died, the rest of his family would die as well. Jehu does his job, and all of Ahab's family members are killed. Now, this plan seems extreme, and it is. But it's all part of God's covenant with his people. Jehu is a king who God blesses, but eventually his heart wanders. He reigns for 28 years, and toward the end of that time, Israel begins to lose wars and land. God is always working out his plan. Even when wicked or sad or confusing things are happening all around, God is still at work. Just because we can't see his hand doesn't mean that it isn't there. His plans will come true, and they will bring him glory and his kids good. He's where the joy is.
