Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for raiders. Today's Bible, verse 2 Kings 13:21 tells us that once, when some Israelites were burying a man, they spied a band of these raiders. So they hastily threw the corpse into the tomb of Elisha and fled. But as soon as the body touched Elisha's bones, the dead man revived and jumped to his feet. Not long ago, we met southern Judah's new king, Joash. Your Bible might call him Jehoash. That's the same guy. He's only 7 years old when he becomes king. He's been raised by a wise priest who gives him good advice. But when the priest dies, Joash makes all kinds of terrible decisions. He gets his advice from the wrong people who lead him into worshiping idols. Things go from bad to worse with Joash, and he is killed by his own people. Meanwhile, in northern Israel, Jehu has died and his son Jehoahaz is king. He is wicked but smart. He notices that Israel is under God's judgment, so he tries to get God's favor. He doesn't do this because he loves God. He does it so so Israel won't get any more punishment. Even though God knows Jehoahaz heart, he is merciful and sends help to Israel. Elisha dies and is buried. Later on, some local men are burying someone else. They make a mistake and they put the dead body in Elisha's grave. When that body touches Elisha's bones, the man comes back to life. He. He's resurrected today by God. God is powerful. The accidental resurrection of the dead man shows us Elisha's powers never came from Elisha himself. They came directly from God. Remember Elisha's request before Elijah died? He asked for a double portion of God's spirit. God chooses who he uses to accomplish his plans. But he doesn't need us because of our power or anything else. The power isn't ours anyway. It's his. He's powerful and he's where the joy is.
