Hey, bible readers. I'm Ms. Emily and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse Jonah, chapter 2, verse 8 says those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God's mercies. God tells Jonah to go to Nineveh and rebuke or express sharp disapproval of the people there for their wickedness. But Jonah is proud and arrogant and he hates the Ninevites. They don't look like him or talk like him, and he doesn't want them to be God's kids. So instead of following God's instructions, Jonah gets on a boat heading in the opposite direction. God sends a huge storm. It's so big that even the sailors, who would have sailed through many storms before, were terrified. Jonah tells the sailors the storm came because he's running from God. They throw Jonah overboard and the sea calms. Then the sailors offer sacrifice to God. God sends a big fish to swallow Jonah whole. And for three days and nights, Jonah lives in his belly. Did you notice anything missing in Jonah's prayer? He gives thanks to God, but he doesn't repent of his sin. God tells the fish to vomit him up on the shore anyway. And Jonah goes to Nineveh to tell them to repent, even though he needs to as well. God still uses Jonah and the entire nation repents of their wicked ways. God is merciful to Jonah even in his sin. Today, Baja, God's love is the only thing that can leave us satisfied. When Jonah prays inside the fish in two, eight, he said, those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God's mercies. When we chase things the world offers, we think getting them will make us happy. But it won't. But when we pursue God, we always will find love. He's where the love is and he's where the joy is.
