Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verb. In Genesis, chapter 22:18, God says, and through your descendants, all the nations of the earth will be blessed. All because you have obeyed me. In the Old Testament, God's people were instructed to sacrifice something valuable to pay the price for their sins. And that's a word to remember. Word to remember. A sacrifice is something that's given up as a price for our sins. God's people would offer these sacrifices to God and ask him to forgive their sins. One day, God tells Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice. Now, this doesn't sound like something God would do, but because of Abraham's great faith, he's willing to obey. Remember, God had promised Abraham that he would have a family. So Abraham knows God will either not allow the offering or bring Isaac back to life. But either way, Abraham is willing to do what God asks. When they arrive at the top of Mount Moriah, God graciously provides a different sacrifice. A ram. Abraham calls God the Lord, who provides. When someone in the Bible says one of God's names, it teaches us about who God is and what he's doing. God provides. He provides Abraham with a sacrifice. And one day, in the same mountains, he provides his son Jesus as a sacrifice for all. All of us. Sarah dies and Abraham buries her in Canaan, which is the land God promised them. Abraham then prays that Isaac will find and marry a woman who loves God. God provides again, and Isaac and Rebecca meet. Today, God reveals His plans to us one step at a time. Even though we sometimes want the entire map and the whole set of directions, God knows that first of all, we can't be trusted with it. And second of all, having it would make us not trust him. He wants us to stay with him on the journey and he'll show us exactly where to go next. He's with us on the journey, and that's so good, because he's where the joy is.
