Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible, verse 2 Kings 17:14 says the Israelites would not listen. They were as stubborn as their ancestors who had refused to believe in the Lord their God. Southern Judah's King Ahaz is wicked. He not only builds idols for worshiping, but also tells his people to sacrifice children to the idols. It's too wicked to imagine, but most of the people follow him in his wicked ways. Judah is full of sin, and God allows them to be beaten in military battles. Ahaz sees that his kingdom is in trouble, but instead of going to the king of the universe for help, he goes to the king of Assyria. There are lies and tricks and more idols, and Judah ends up in a bigger mess than ever. Meanwhile, up in northern Israel, King Hoshea is also wicked. He's been paying Assyria money every year so that Assyria won't attack him. But one year, he doesn't pay. So Assyria attacks. After three years, Assyria captures Israel's capital city and sends all of the Israelites out of their homeland, exactly as the prophet said would happen today. God is patient with his people. God made his covenant with them and taught them how to live in a relationship with him. He's made them, delivered them, fed them, protected them, and lived with them. He also sent them warning after warning over hundreds of years when they continued to turn their hearts away from him. And now they've been captured by their enemies, just like their hearts have been captured by false gods. Because of their suffering, they will understand their sin. And when they understand their sin, they will return to God. He is so patient, and he's where the joy is, Sam.
