Hey Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verb Hosea 1:10 says, yet the time will come when Israel's people will be like the sands of the seashore, too many to count. Then at the place where they were told, you are not my people, it will be said, you are children of the living God. God sends a message to both Israel and Judah in a unique way. He tells the prophet Hosea to marry Gomer, a woman who has spent time with many men, treating them like they were her husband. Even though Gomer hasn't lived her life by God's rules, God tells Hosea to commit to her anyway. Does this remind you of anything? Even though the Israelites haven't lived their lives by God's rules, God is committed to them. Even after Hosea marries Gomer, she goes back to her old ways. She rejects him and leaves him to live with another man, acting like he's her husband. But God tells Hosea to find his wife and bring her home. Israel has rejected God for so long because the elders and leaders didn't tell the next generation about Him. Almost no one knows him anymore. God knows the only thing that will bring Israel back to him is a heart change. Forcing them to obey him won't change their hearts. They have to love Him. So God keeps pursuing their hearts to bring them home. Today, by God, God makes us his people. Did you catch Gomer's kids names in today's reading? They might seem unkind, but they tell us the story of Jesus redeeming us. First, sin exists and must be punished. Second, we were people without mercy. Third, we weren't his children. But because of Jesus, God forgives our sin, gives us great mercy, and even makes us his children. He's where the joy is.
