Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse Isaiah, chapter 35, verse 4, says to those with fearful hearts, be strong and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you. Because of the people's sin and God's judgment over all the nations, Edom was turned into a smelly wasteland covered in weeds. Today we read about how the captives are brought back into the land. We read Isaiah's beautiful prophecy about the restoration of that wasteland. And it points to two the return of the Israelites to the promised land, which already happened in history, and the eventual return of all God's adopted kids. That's us too. To the fully restored new earth. Today, the desert is a place that grows beautiful fruits and flowers and trees because of the streams that flow through it. But that's just the beginning. One day the earth will be completely restored to the way God intended it to be. And there will be no more tears, no more evil, and no more fear. Just joy forever. The new earth isn't here yet, though, for the people of Israel or other. So back in our story, the Assyrians try to convince King Hezekiah's workers to mistrust him and doubt God. But King Hezekiah is wise and leads his people away from their enemies. Lies. God is a promise maker and a promise keeper. The rejoicing wilderness and blossoming desert Isaiah wrote about in chapter 35 thousands of years ago exists today. There are streams and flowers already, and the new earth isn't even here yet. Everything God promises will come true. He's where the joy is.
