When trouble comes, he is close to those who trust in him. Nahum is a prophet who writes to Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. The Assyrian army planned an attack on Jerusalem, which we read about yesterday, and Nineveh is where God sent Jonah to rebuke them. At the time, Nineveh repented of their sin and turned to God. But a hundred years later, they've fallen back into wickedness. God judges Assyria for the way they've treated his people. He reminds everyone who he is, slow to anger and great in power. He also reminds them he will punish sin. Nahum explains that God's eyes aren't only on the wicked who will receive judgment, but also on the faithful who will receive blessing.
