Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily and this is the Bible recap for wages. Today's Bible verse. In Genesis 32:10, Jacob prays. I am not worthy of all of the unfailing love and faithfulness you have shown to me, your servant. Jacob and his family continue their journey back to Canaan. And Jacob starts to get scared. He remembers remembers how badly he treated his older brother Esau. Tricking him and lying to him and taking what belonged to him. And he's worried that Esau might try to hurt him. Even though he's scared, Jacob trusts in God and praises God for taking care of him. At night, Jacob wrestles with God. This wrestling isn't a dream or a vision because Jacob ends up with an actual physical injury from the wrestling. And when morning comes, God gives Jacob a new name. We've seen this before in the Bible and we will see it again. When God renames someone, it usually means that he's giving them a new job or a new direction. God renames Jacob Israel and eventually all of Jacob's descendants will be known by this name too. But we'll get to that later. Did you catch that word to remember? Word to remember? A descendant is someone after you in your family line. Like a child of a child of a child. When Esau meets Jacob or Israel, he doesn't yell or try to hurt him. In fact, Esau seems happy to see his brother Jacob. Israel's fears did not come true. But something bad does happen. His daughter Dinah is attacked and abused by a man from another land. Jacob, Israel's sons decide to get revenge on all of the men of that land. But they do this without God's permission or instruction. God changes hearts. Even though Jacob's life has been full of lies and tricks, God doesn't give up on Jacob. And he keeps doing the work he promised he would do do. When Jacob is scared and alone, God comes near to Jacob, wrestles with him and gives him a new name, Israel. God always keeps his promises and he always finishes what he starts. He's where the joy is. Did you know you can watch TBR Kids on our YouTube channel? Some people like watching more than listening. Both are great.
