Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse. In Exodus, chapter 20, verse 20, Moses says to the Israelites, don't be afraid, for God has come in this way to test you. And so your fear of him will keep you from. From sinning. God leads the Israelites to Mount Sinai and tells them he wants to meet with them. So first they must make themselves clean to prepare to meet with him. When God arrives, there's a storm and the blast of a trumpet. God comes down as fire and smoke covers the mountain and there's even an earthquake. Then God tells Moses to climb the mountain. And God gives him ten rules to live by. We call those the Ten Commandments. He reminds Moses of his great love for them and tells Moses, while the people listen in, that he is Yahweh, who brought them out of slavery. God saves them and provides for them and gives them his laws. And these laws are good. They not only honor him, but bless them. The first five laws point the Israelites and us upward. They teach us how to love God. And the last five laws point us outward. They teach us how to love each other. God gives Moses some additional rules too. And all of these laws, as well as the ten Commandments, teach us God's way to live, which is of course, the best way to live today. Baja God wants us to fear him, but not to be scared of Him. This is really important to understand about God. So let's make this kind of fear a word to remember. Word to remember. Having fear of God is to be in awe of who he is and what he's doing. Being scared of someone means you don't trust them to treat you well. But fearing God means to be in awe of who he is, is, and amazed by what he's doing. Being scared of someone moves us further away from them, but fearing God moves us closer to Him. And the closer we get to God, the more we know for sure that he's where the joy is.
