Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse Deuteronomy 12:7 says, There you and your families will feast in the presence of the Lord your God, and you will rejoice in all you have accomplished because the Lord your God has blessed you. God gives a command to the Israelites and us to love him. To love someone, you have to know them. And to know them, you have to pay attention. Moses tells the people to pay attention to their hearts so that they can make sure they're not drifting away from God toward idolatry. And that's another word to remember. Idolatry is worshiping idols or false gods. God explains the shifts that will happen around offerings and sacrifices. Once they get to the promised land, God will dwell in the middle of the land. The Levites will spread out among each tribe on the perimeter or the edge of each section of land, just like God instructed. But the tabernacle is the only place where they can give burnt offerings to God. Everyone will travel there to give their offerings and sacrifices. Then Moses warns people that even false prophets can sometimes say truthful things. He warns that God's people shouldn't seek information from them because most of what they say is lies. God is protecting them. God says to be joyful three times in today's readings. He tells his people to bring him offerings and sacrifices and then to rejoice. When people make sacrifices to false gods, they usually hope the gods will give them something in return. But when God's people make sacrifices and offerings to him, it's because he's already given us so much. We can rejoice in everything, even in giving offerings because of what God has already done. We're joyful because he's where the joy is.
