Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse, Deuteronomy, chapter 29, verse 29, says, the Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us. So that we may obey all, all the terms of these instructions. Moses reminds the people that if they obey God and keep the covenant, he will bless them richly. He'll give them victory and command his blessing on them. If the people don't follow God, the curses will come. Covenant curses are the opposite of covenant blessings. So as wonderful as the blessings of God sound, the curses of God sound terrible in equal amounts. Be careful not to assume something about God here that goes against everything we've learned about him so far. He doesn't want to harm his people. He pursues them again and again, even when they've betrayed Him. But when we sin, he allows discipline so that we'll be protected from ourselves and we'll turn back to Him. Moses encourages the Israelites to keep this covenant. It's not just for the priests or the leaders. This covenant is for every single Israelite and all the Israelites who will be born. God reveals some things to his people and he keeps some things hidden. The things he shows us are meant to draw us closer to him. And so are the things he keeps. We can't know everything God knows, and that's good. We don't have to know what he knows because we know Him. And one thing we can always be sure of is this. He's where the joy is.
