Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse. In Joshua 1:9, God says, this is my Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. The book of Joshua is the first history book of the Bible that we'll read together. And while it does teach us about history, of course, its main job is to teach us about God, who he is, what he's doing, and how much he loves his kids. So be sure to look for God on every page. Joshua sends two spies to Jericho, which is the first city in the promised land. They want to get a good view of city, so they stay in the house of a woman named Rahab. Rahab does not live by God's laws, but she's heard about God and all the things that he's done for the Israelites. And she knows that God is powerful, so she protects the spies when they're in her home. The spies report back that they believe God will give them the land. Joshua gathers everyone together to cross the river. And as they do, God calls them not just a people, but but a nation. He tells them to set up 12 stones to remember his provision for them today. God wants Joshua to be strong and courageous, but he doesn't expect Joshua to do it on his own. Every time God tells Joshua to be brave, God also tells him that he will be with him. We can't force ourselves to be strong or courageous and and God doesn't ask us to. Real bravery comes from knowing that God is with us. You can be brave because he's with you too. He's where the strength is, he's where the courage is, and he's where the joy is.
