Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse Judges, chapter 21, verse 25 says, in those days Israel had no king. All the people did whatever seemed right in their own eyes. Israel is an absolute mess of sin and misery. Their greed, hatred and selfishness takes over, and horrible and heartbreaking things happen as a result. When the Israelite army learns of some of the things that have been happening because of their people's sins, they decide that something needs to be done. Israel goes to war against one of their own tribes, Benjamin. This is the first that they fought among themselves. Israel asks God to guide them, and in three days he gives them the victory. But then Israel continues to make decisions without asking God, and they work themselves into a bigger and bigger mess of sin. Today, God is joy. There wasn't a lot of joy in today's reading because the people turned away from God. The Book of Judges ends with the Israelite sin growing and growing. Sin might lead to small moments of satisfaction or maybe even happiness, but sin will never lead to joy. Living God's way is the only way that we can have real, lasting joy. Of course it is, because he's where the joy is. The more we learn about the Bible, the more we realize there is still to learn. And that's why we're still creating more resources to help you read, understand, and love God's Word even more than you already do. In this episode, Miss Emily guides young listeners through the closing and very challenging chapters of the book of Judges (Judges 19–21). She highlights the chaos, sadness, and consequences of the Israelites turning away from God during this era. The focus is on understanding how living outside God's ways leads to destruction and sorrow, while living according to God's guidance leads to real joy.
