We almost never do three episodes in a week, so we're putting up an extra episode this week. Mostly because the game and how the game ended last night. Eddie, you wanna blow the whistle? Yeah. Well, Eddie's upset because Oklahoma City lost.

I mean, what. What happened?

What happened is right. So I did not watch it live. Oklahoma City was up maybe 8, 9, 10 at the half.

[Lester Holt]

When I got home, which was like, start of the third quarter, they were up by 10. I'm like, this is awesome.

[Tom Brokaw]

I stopped watching at halftime because I went to bed and it was over in my mind because it's been over every time. Well, with the Thunder, but it's also not been over every time with the Pacers. So as rock in a hard place. Rock, Thunder. It's over. They end it quick. Pacers, hard place. It's never over. They kept coming back, beating everybody from way down. So I wake up this morning to a text from my friend and vet, Dr. Josie, who is a big Indiana person, big Indiana Pacers fan. And we had made a bet, my wife and myself, her husband and her loser has to buy what we did. Parentheses a very expensive dinner. And so I woke up to this message. I think I'm gonna have my wagyu flown in from Japan for our dinner. And I think to myself, huh? And so I go over and I.

Look, the Pacers won because you're thinking, there's no way they lost.

And not only that, Halliburton had another game winner.

So I watched the clip this morning in disbelief. This job is hurting this show because my main job is to wake up really early for the radio show, which means if it's a late game, I don't often get to see the end of it. Unless it's Arkansas playing, I won't stay up because especially if it's kind of decided in my mind. And so it was decided in my mind. And I could not believe what I saw. Yeah, I could not believe it. Hey, shout out to the Pacers because, man, they do not quit. Halliburton wasn't even playing that well. And I watched Richard Jefferson say, yeah, Halliburton just doing tour dates, meaning some of the days that he plays basketball. D this, six points, six rebounds. Few says, just tour dates. Like he's gonna be there.

Interesting tour dates. I like that.

[Tom Brokaw]

But that was right before. Yeah, he freaking went. Ice in the veins is nuts.

[Kevin]

I turned it on 22 seconds ago. That's all I needed to see.

[Tom Brokaw]

Did you? So you saw the last I saw.

[Kevin]

I got in the bed because I was only up because the kids. And then I was like, okay, I need to go to bed now. Cause this is past 10 o' clock.

[Tom Brokaw]

Could not believe it.

[Kevin]

Check the score. I was like, oh, I'll just watch the last 20 seconds. The two plays I watched was SGA missing and then Halliburton hitting it.

[Tom Brokaw]

SGA did miss that drive that. I think it was on the left side of the lane.

[Kevin]

Yeah, like a fade away.

[Lester Holt]

That's what he. And he makes those. Like, that's an automatic for him.

[Tom Brokaw]

Yeah, go ahead, Eddie. What you're saying.

I was at CMA Fest, just working till about 8:30. I get home around 9 and I start like, I see the score. I'm like, this is awesome. It's great. And then my wife's like, you need to talk to one of our sons. He's like disobeying me all day. And I'm like, okay, let me start working a little plan. Because I'm the voice of reason in the house. I'm the disciplinary. I have to go and deal with all this stuff. So I go to his room. We're talking for about like 20 minutes. I come down and get a drink of water. I look at the score. I'm like, oh my gosh, this is getting closer. And I go back up. And I'm getting frustrated now more with my son because of the dump score. Yes, dude. So I'm just going like, you can't do that anymore, mom. Like, well, you got to respect your mom even when I'm not around. Blah, blah, whatever. And then I get downstairs and SGA's got the ball. And I'm like, okay, we got this. He takes the shot. The shot he always makes, misses it. And then Halberton with 03. Dude, I. I'm like, I can't believe it. And all, like, all I saw on TV was me wearing a thong.

Wow.

That's the only thing I saw.

The odds are now minus 300. So from like minus 700 to minus 300.

I saw for game two, though, the. The Thunder are even bigger favorites than they were.

Minus 11. Yeah. Thunder minus 11. Yeah. So I'm gonna put. I'm gonna re bet the Oklahoma City Thunder, Arkansas Cubs again, because they're a bit better for the. The trio. So I'm gonna do that. About a hundred bucks and kind of see where it puts me. The Ark's not till tonight. I thought I was originally Friday, Saturday. It's Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Yeah, cool. Last night I was like, I can't find the game.

And you could see some people that weren't in white that were also in blue. As Thunder fans, you're like, you're not a real Thunder fan. Like, put the white shirt on. Wear the shirt.

Yes, it does look communist. You know, like, it looks weird when you go on there and be like, this is crazy. Like, it looks very strange. But I love that the whole place wears the same thing for their team.

Yeah. There are sections that do that during college football. Unless it's a full wide out. I mean, it's not a new concept. But the Thunder do it really well.

They lost that first game, and I told you I thought they won and checked out and then saw the girl get the base hit off the intentional walk. So last night they're up two zero, and it's like the sixth, I think, top of six, something like that. Woke up this Morning it was four two. And I was like, what did I miss? Texas Tech.

No, Texas Tech still won.

Oh, wow.

But I think that was a score. Apparently when I go to sleep, sports happens.

Dude, you have to stay up.

That's the whole point. Like when I go to sleep, all the sport. Because I believe it was the fifth or sixth inning and I watched almost all of the game or at least had it on and it was 00. Then I think they scored two the same inning. And then I was like, well, this is over. Then I get any hits off her. I believe the final score is 4:2. Saw that this morning too. 4:3. 4:3. There you go.

Are you able to watch in your bedroom?

Not at all. I'll either have it on my phone up or if I'm upstairs, if I have the PlayStation on, have three TVs all beside each other, I'll have my. It's basically like a gambling cave. I have all the TVs on there, but. Or I'll just. Yeah, have. So if I have YouTube TV. Most of the time though, I just have it up on my phone. Okay, something.

You know what's super annoying is I posted videos on TikTok and Instagram of this Keith Urban interview that I did in person. They ended up making the ACM special. We did like six minutes of it, but we did basically an hour, and then it went up as a full Bobby cast and I posted a video. The lighting was great. I got some great stories out of Keith Urban. The first time I met Toby. Keith being an extra in an Alan Jackson video, stuff I'd never heard. And for example, the video. Keith Urban lived in a hotel when he first moved to Nashville. It got 212,000 views. And, like, that's pretty significant. Put a lot of time and work into it. He was very generous with the stories. I put up a video yesterday because my wife was singing in the background. I just recorded my face while she was singing, and I said, I don't even know what the song is. My wife won't stop singing it. It's got 400,000 views.

It's hard to figure out what I did.

Nothing. I did nothing. All I'm doing is drinking from a cup and she's singing in the background. I took it out of a cup, too. It's annoying. So that was a whole video.

Four days of summer vacation comes along just to end it so the annual problem for our generation Is finding a good way to spend it like baby building a rocket or climbing anything.

Yeah. And they're bringing it back. I think that's why it's back in the news. Probably. She saw a TikTok on it and she knew everywhere, but she knows everywhere to every song, so. But Mike, you knew the song, right? Yeah. Bowling for Soup would play it live in concert, so that's where I've seen it, but I watched the show, too. What do you know most from Bowling for Soup in concert or watching the show? I would say the show more. How many Bowling for Soup Concerts have you been to? I've seen them two times at Warped Tour, so twice. And how many episodes of the show have you seen? Probably the first few seasons, because I think it started in, like, 2007, which was kind of the time I was getting out of Disney Channel, but I would still watch it. It. Yeah. I'm gonna say 2001 because I was in college. It's just middle of college and that that was all happening where I had no responsibilities other than making it to class, which I didn't do that anyway. It was just awesome.

What was the best year ever, Kevin?

2008 for me. My junior year of high school, we won our second championship in football. Back to back. Teddy's Point had no responsibilities, just partying, music, girls, football, and that was it.

Kind of like your college experience almost.

[Tom Brokaw]

Exactly to a T. I'd probably go like 1999 for a bunch of reasons. First year in college, I was working in radio full time. I kind of didn't have any money, but I knew like what I wanted to do. And I already started plotting how to get there. And I was like, I had a bedroom because I had always. I never had a bedroom growing up. So I had a bedroom. I was living in the dorm. I remember having a bed in a dorm being like, this is crazy. I have my own place. This is wild. According to science. Also the best year statistically in history. 1999.

1919, 1999.

Why it stands out, number one, Bobby got a bedroom.

[Lester Holt]

That's number one, a dorm.

[Tom Brokaw]

U.S. unemployment was only at 4.2%. The stock market was booming. It was at the height of the dot com bubble before the consumer confidence was at record highs. Gas was cheap, $1.17 a gallon. Employee wages were rising. On TV, the Sopranos, debuts, Friends, Frasier, er, Millionaire were all on. And huge movies that year. 1999, the Matrix, Fight Club, Sixth Sense, American Beauty, Toy Story 2, the Blair Witch Project, 10 Things I Hate about you, Notting Hill, Office Space and Star. The Phantom Menace. Great movies and music. A golden era of pop and hip hop, Britney Spears debut album, nsync, Backstreet Boys, Eminem puts out the Slim Shady, lp, Santana and Rob Thomas have this. Life ain't good enough for you, Dre. Dr. Dre. No major wars.

That's good.

Moon landing in 69. That makes it as a year. An honorable mention. Year of moon landing. Jets won the Super Bowl. 69. Joe Namath guaranteed it. They were not the favorite. That's not on the list. But Broadway Joe, Woodstock was 69. That was a very, very cultural revolution type year. So. 99. 69.

[Lester Holt]

But there was a war in 69, I believe.

[Tom Brokaw]

Yeah, but.

[Lester Holt]

Right.

[Tom Brokaw]

Vietnam.

[Kevin]

Vietnam, yeah.

[Tom Brokaw]

But they stayed. That's the second best year ever. 99. There was no war for us. For us.

And now I'm thinking, when was 9?

2001 in the year I picked.

Not a good year. I'd like to change my year.

But what if, like, January through August was so good?

It was, dude. It was. But I'm thinking too. 1998 was awesome, too, because, like, I was a lifeguard. Like, just good looking.

That's when you were good looking.

I was. I was in shape, like. Yeah, tanned. It was awesome. We go to the beach every day.

In third place, 1984, because Princeton, Springsteen, the Olympic Games, and the Apple Macintosh debuts.

Oh, wow.

In 2007, fourth place, the iPhone is released. Strong global economy before the 2008 crash. Seems to me that when it gets really strong, we're about to come fading down or crashing down. 2015 comes in fifth place. Low unemployment, great pop culture, and pre pandemic optimism. 2016 was pretty legit, though, because the Cubs won the World Series. Yeah, that was cool that I waited my whole life, but that was nothing compared to people that died that ended up being 80 years old and now never got to see a championship.

Yeah, Game two. We lost Cleveland. And you know who was there? Leland from Ohio.

He said, here's the reason they haven't released files because Donald Trump's all in them. And he posted on Twitter and he goes, whatever, good luck, djt. And then Trump goes back and they're going back and forth. I think by the end of the night, cooler heads had prevailed and people were like, you guys have to stop.

I thought they loved each other.

Anytime. Two massive egos, I would say. I would compare this to Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson.

So if we're do sports analogies, that's only going to last so long with two people who think they are the alpha. And you have two people here. The part where Elon Musk said, hey, look, Trump's been president for three and a half more years. I'll be here for 40 more years. You guys want to play with me? He's like talking to people who are, like, picking sides.

Yeah, that's wild. I thought they'd last at least maybe a year. I was going to clash at some point.

Oh, that's not crazy. He launched. That was the tweet. He was like, here's the reason the files haven't been released, even though they promised before he was elected he was gonna put him out. It's because he's in it over and over again. I was like, oh, God, this is. That's when I knew it was serious.

You're just like, they're just dicking around on Twitter. I fought with many a people.

Right. You'd almost think it was like a coordinated fight with them, like, to get.

I remember one time, Bobby and I were fighting on Twitter. We did in the same van. We were like. Because I was late to bus call is van call. At that time, we were touring the country in a band, and I was late. I. I just had fallen asleep and realized I was, like, 30 minutes late. And he was so pissed that I was late. He sat in the front seat. I sat in the back. And he was like, I'm so mad right now. He would tweet, I'm so mad right now. I'm like, it's not like I've done this before. And I tweet back and forth. And then finally, Andy Roddick, he's like, are you guys really fighting?

I don't remember this.

And you're in the same car.

We were in the same car, tweeting back and forth to each other.

Yeah, I don't. I guess I don't hold on to stuff. I guess I'm not a grudge holder.

But if you ask me, from my very limited experience, I did think about it and thought, yeah, I think somebody can make this.

Adam Silver in the NBA says owners are likely to urge exploring expansion. I think it's a good time for expansion. I think the talent in the NBA is so robust right now that we could probably even have another couple teams. I think that would make a lot of sense.

Nashville would be cool. I know Memphis is right down the road, but man, Nashville would be awesome.

It's tough because Memphis is down the road and Atlanta's down the road and they like fight to keep Teams close. It's been the issue with the baseball team being here is that Atlanta fought, from what I heard, to keep Nashville from getting a baseball team because the Braves own a lot of this region. This area's fan.

[Kevin]

Yeah, makes sense big time.

And I would say, like, man, we'd be better than Memphis to have a team. But Memphis, like they, they thrive over there. They do well.

What ends up. I'm gonna speak very uneducated, but at least a little educated because one, my brother in law is a coach. I've been following it and before he even went to Arkansas, Patty Gasso has won eight national championships at Oklahoma. So that part of the family is very embedded. And I've asked a bunch of dumb questions like how come they can pitch it like this over and over again. Different arm motion. Right. But what happens is your body also gets tired because you have to push with your legs so much. So it's not so much the arm, it's the total body getting exhausted and not being able to use the arm in the same way. Whereas the baseball motion is very unnatural. That's why you can. You only have so many pitches before you have to like ice it and wait four or five days. That's an unnatural motion.

[Kevin]

Yeah. I remember when we went to Oklahoma State and I mean it Comes when.

[Tom Brokaw]

I tore my shoulder, by the way.

[Kevin]

It comes with, like, force when they're pitching to you guys.

[Tom Brokaw]

Okay, so we're doing softball, right? Yeah, we're betting college softball. Texas Tech is the favorite.

[Kevin]

Yeah.

[Tom Brokaw]

[Lester Holt]

Should we do a parlay? Same game, parlay.

I don't. I don't want to bet the over under. I just think I don't know enough about.

Was it named after you or you. Were you named after it and blah, blah, blah. And then I just went along with it and said, whatever. And then he was like, but what about when they on side? I said, then it's onside, Kevin.

And I'll send him a message and be like, guys, I didn't make. I didn't mean to place that bet. And it lost. And they'll be like, no problem. You bet $1. Like, here's your dollar bag.
