Bobby Bones
This is a podcast called 25 Whistles. Talking Meat. And they all wear a whistle yet. Stupid. But what did you expect? It's a podcast called 25 Whistles. 25 Whistles.
Blow it. We yelled meat because today is the meat in my mouth challenge.
Eddie
Lovely.
Bobby Bones
Brandon, you can lay him up here.
Eddie
I'm so scared. Brandon.
Bobby Bones
Switched the two.
Brandon
How can I switch the two?
Eddie
Do you know which one's which?
Kevin
Yes.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Okay. So if you missed last week's episode, both Eddie and Kevin claimed they could smoke the best brisket. I gave them both $75 to go and buy the brisket. Now I just need to know, do I need to eat it immediately or can I talk about something for a second?
Eddie
I mean, it's up to you. Do you like your. Do you like your meat hot or
Bobby Bones
do you like it? You guys know me. I just like the meat in my mouth, you know?
Kevin
Yeah. Yeah, it is the meat in my mouth.
Bobby Bones
Nobody knows me. There's one thing everybody says about me, like, you walk out of an office. I've been in it. You're like, that's the one thing about that guy. He likes meat in his mouth.
Nick Baumgartner
Yes.
Kevin
It's always better warm.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Yeah, okay, fair enough. Kevin, how long did you cook your meat?
Kevin
10 hours.
Bobby Bones
Eddie?
Eddie
13.
Bobby Bones
Any story behind? I don't know who's is whose. I've got two plates here. I don't know whose is who's. I can't even look at it and tell who's is whose. I can tell which one looks a little more appealing. All right, Bobby, but I don't want to say anything yet.
Eddie
What?
Brandon
The one you have in your hand.
Bobby Bones
Don't tell me you're not gonna tell me.
Brandon
No, I'm just.
Nick Baumgartner
I'm.
Brandon
I'm doing a number system.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Julian Edelman
Is that okay?
Bobby Bones
I would think this is number two.
Brandon
That's not. Oh, that's number one. Number one and number two.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so this is number one.
Brandon
That's number one.
Bobby Bones
Okay, I'm going to take a bite of number one.
Eddie
Man, I don't even know which one's mine.
Nick Baumgartner
I know.
Kevin
I thought it was number three.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so that's good.
Eddie
Is that yours?
Bobby Bones
Oh, dang. Not good. That's good. I'm gonna lie.
Eddie
It's good brisket right there.
Bobby Bones
I don't know if you guys know about me. I love meat in my mouth. Something.
Eddie
Okay, so that was what? That was number one.
Bobby Bones
I mean, it was number one because I ate it.
Eddie
Number one.
Bobby Bones
Brandon said to use that. Number one.
Dylan
Okay.
Bobby Bones
God dang, that was good. Okay, let me go to number two.
Brandon
Number two.
Bobby Bones
Now I'm gonna say this. Number one tasted way better than I thought it was going to because it visually did not look as good as what number two looks like. Only because, number two, the edges are blackened. And I'm not even sure if that's what you say about it. And nobody correct me because then I might know who it is.
Eddie
Yeah, no, no, correction.
Bobby Bones
Okay, number two.
Brandon
Can you say blackened?
Bobby Bones
Sorry, should we bleep that? I'm not even gonna make the joke, guys.
Dylan
Come on.
Bobby Bones
Okay, here we go. Here we go. Hard dinosaur.
Eddie
So both are good.
Bobby Bones
Here's the thing. They're not just good because I love meat in my mouth.
Eddie
Cause you do.
Bobby Bones
I do.
Eddie
Here's the thing, man, I'm nervous.
Kevin
Me, too.
Eddie
I'm really nervous now.
Bobby Bones
Me, too. God dang, those are both good.
Eddie
He's going for seconds.
Bobby Bones
Well, I have to. I gotta. I gotta clean my palate. And I'm only eating off the same one, but.
Eddie
Do you have water?
Bobby Bones
I got.
Eddie
I guess that's how you clean your pallet.
Brandon
Wow.
Eddie
Wow, wow, wow, wow.
Bobby Bones
This is close, Kevin, to everybody listening. It's elite type stuff.
Kevin
Nice job, Eddie.
Eddie
Man. I'm gonna be honest, Kevin. Like, I was very proud of what I made. And the fact that it's so close. That's. That's good.
Bobby Bones
To number two.
Kevin
Good.
Brandon
It's a big deal.
Kevin
As good as the first bite? Better than the second bite or better than the first bite?
Bobby Bones
It can't be better than the first because now I know what to expect. Yeah, but the fact that it could even. It's like the first time you do heroin. It's awesome.
Eddie
Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Bobby Bones
But if that second time you do heroin can be close, like, I'm chasing the dragon right now, boys.
Nick Baumgartner
Absolutely.
Bobby Bones
I am chasing the dragon. Get your fix on now.
Eddie
Do you want to do the barbecue sauce now, or is it just plain brisket for now?
Bobby Bones
Okay, first of all, I'm a guy who believes this, and it's controversial. I believe you put a little sauce on something, it's always better. Even if it's perfect, it gets a little more perfect. I love A1 sauce. I love sauces. This is good enough. That sauce will still make it better, but this is good enough that it needs sauce.
Nick Baumgartner
Both of them.
Eddie
Let's skip the sauce then.
Brandon
Bobby's taking his second bite.
Bobby Bones
This is the second bite of number one.
Nick Baumgartner
Number one. He sure is.
Kevin
Brandon with the play by.
Brandon
He's taking two bites of number two, and his face says it all.
Bobby Bones
God dang.
Kevin
Have you ever loved meat in your mouth more than right now?
Eddie
Well, yeah.
Bobby Bones
69. It was a dangerous time for all of us. It was muddy. We didn't know what was happening.
Eddie
I'm telling you, it smells good in here, doesn't it, boys?
Brandon
Amazing in here, guys.
Bobby Bones
I'm shocked that they're both so good.
Eddie
I am, too. I am, actually, that you're having such a hard time.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I'm having such a hard time because I think in my head, I've got one that's slightly better, but it only could be the order that I'm eating it to. So I'm probably gonna have to go back and put even more meat in my mouth.
Kevin
Oh.
Eddie
Oh, okay.
Bobby Bones
Okay. But we did bring Dylan in. I know. Scuba Steve is here, too. He's doing buy bone show stuff. Hey, Scuba Steve, can you hear me? Scuba, can you have him put his headphones on real quick? Headphones on. Hey, what's up? Do you enjoy meat in your mouth?
Nick Baumgartner
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Eddie
His face is so scared.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, we're having a meat. We don't know whose meat is who.
Scuba Steve
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Both Eddie and Kevin smoked a brisket. And would you mind sampling a piece and just telling me which one you like better? And Dylan, Same for you.
Dylan
Interesting. Yeah.
Eddie
But we're not showing Dylan, right?
Bobby Bones
No, no. Those two don't need to know who's his who.
Nick Baumgartner
No one knows.
Eddie
We're not showing his face. Dylan, Right. Is he masked? Dylan.
Bobby Bones
Here's the thing about Dylan. He's hidden. He's secret. And I made the joke that Dylan's face will never be seen. And then someone just searched who I follow on Instagram and I follow Dylan, so he's no longer masked. You know, it was just. You can show. Yeah, we can show.
Nick Baumgartner
All right.
Bobby Bones
Okay. There's Dylan.
Kevin
Hey, Dylan.
Bobby Bones
Okay, Dylan.
Dylan
Yes.
Bobby Bones
You go first. Okay. I'm going to have you come up, and I'm. I need Another fork, though. Can somebody run to get another fork? I'm not giving Dylan.
Kevin
Yeah, I'll get one.
Bobby Bones
Cuz I've kept my fork only on specific pieces of meat.
Kevin
Oh, yeah?
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Dylan
One on the left, my left, your right.
Bobby Bones
Well, the forks under the piece that I've been eating from. You don't need to worry that much, Dylan. I'm okay, bro.
Dylan
I was saying, which one?
Kevin
Pretty clean.
Bobby Bones
I got a baby. I got a newborn. I got to stay pretty healthy, man.
Eddie
I'm surprised.
Bobby Bones
I'm shocked.
Eddie
So close.
Bobby Bones
I'm shocked.
Eddie
I thought I'd come in and you'd be like, oh, this one's for sure the best.
Bobby Bones
So I always checked out.
Scuba Steve
Listen to something else. I know Eddie's involved, but who's going up against Kevin?
Kevin
Oh, okay. All right.
Bobby Bones
But you don't know whose is who's. Yeah, yeah.
Scuba Steve
Good luck, Kevin.
Bobby Bones
Right. We're gonna bring in a couple other forks.
Scuba Steve
Thank you. I'll get you with my hands too.
Bobby Bones
You could a primal.
Nick Baumgartner
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
All right, Good deal. Do we have any paper towels or something? Because he's gonna have to, like, grab a sheet.
Eddie
Oh, no paper towels here.
Bobby Bones
That's all right.
Eddie
No, get a Coke out there.
Bobby Bones
Kevin keeps running back and forth.
Nick Baumgartner
Gonna need a couple beers.
Brandon
Dylan is walking.
Bobby Bones
All right, Dylan, this is number one. This is number two. So if you want to grab when he comes back with a paper towel, you can lay it on the paper towel. Yeah.
Eddie
Oh, I have another plate.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah, you've done a plate. We can do plates. Even better here, Scooby, you can come on in. Then.
Eddie
Here's Scuba.
Bobby Bones
I'll give you a plate right here, number one. So just grab a whole piece. Just remember which one's which.
Brandon
Scuba's entering the studio.
Bobby Bones
And then grab a piece over here. The only piece I've eaten off of is this one.
Dylan
Boom.
Bobby Bones
Samer.
Dylan
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Yep, Left. Good.
Eddie
No, it's not for you.
Nick Baumgartner
It's Scuba.
Dylan
Oh, okay.
Bobby Bones
And, boys, you guys outdid yourself.
Eddie
Yeah, I'm the. The tension is high. I'm so worried Now, Scuba, there's a plate right there.
Nick Baumgartner
1.
Eddie
There you go, buddy.
Kevin
Yeah, so you don't want to grab
Bobby Bones
that one about it. So grab that piece. And that's. That's piece number one. You have a four.
Eddie
Kevin, you a little worried.
Bobby Bones
And then they should have brought you. There's forks over there. Oh, yeah, that's number two. So the blacker edges, too. And then. Yeah, so you guys will have a couple. Pete, couple bites of each. And
Kevin
Scuba straight with the Hands.
Nick Baumgartner
I love it.
Bobby Bones
Let me know.
Kevin
What do you think?
Nick Baumgartner
Oh, oh, we got a.
Brandon
No. Wow.
Kevin
Going for number two already.
Eddie
You want to go back to your second shot of these?
Dylan
That's insane.
Bobby Bones
Which one did you have?
Dylan
Had number one first. That's pretty good.
Kevin
I don't remember which ones.
Nick Baumgartner
That's pretty good.
Kevin
Brandon, you remember, right? That's all that matters.
Eddie
No idea anymore.
Dylan
That's solid.
Scuba Steve
So far I've had that first one. I think that's number one.
Bobby Bones
Number one. Yeah.
Scuba Steve
That was hella good, right? A lot of good fat in there too.
Eddie
Okay.
Scuba Steve
I'm worried about the second one. It looks like it may be too smoked or maybe like too crispy for my liking.
Bobby Bones
Well, you're just looking at it though. You gotta taste it.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I guess I was given my initial thought by looking at it. Looking at the.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. We didn't ask about initial thoughts, did we?
Brandon
Got put the meat.
Bobby Bones
Was the meat in your mouth an eyeball test? Well, the cooking shows, they talk about
Scuba Steve
how it looks in the playhouse Presented.
Eddie
Does look like a cooking show to you, Gordon Ramsey.
Dylan
It's interesting, Dylan. That's interesting.
Scuba Steve
The second one's like butter.
Dylan
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so don't. Don't make any ants. Don't. Don't say anything yet. Okay. Brandon, would you mind giving them each a one of those yellow post its? They can write down number one or number two on it.
Dylan
Yes.
Bobby Bones
Just write your answer down.
Nick Baumgartner
Wow.
Eddie
I did not expect for it to be like this.
Bobby Bones
I didn't either, actually.
Eddie
It's. It's like Tom Brady showing up the super bowl being like, I got this. And then they're down by like two touchdowns.
Bobby Bones
And then Nick Bow shows up. He's like, how's he so good? Yeah.
Eddie
What's happening right now, Kevin?
Kevin
It's the old. It's the. The young buck coming in, dude. Drake make the rookie. Yeah, yeah. Second year, second smoke dream.
Dylan
I lost, though.
Eddie
This is your second smoke ever.
Kevin
Ever.
Eddie
Wow.
Kevin
A brisket.
Bobby Bones
Well, yeah, yeah, but did he take any of the Eddies?
Eddie
I didn't tell him anything then. No, man. We haven't really even talked.
Kevin
No, we haven't been friends for about a week.
Eddie
We walked by each other and just been like, you're not my friend this week.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, man. The problem is, like, one of them actually looks more appealing to me and if it's a tie, I end up having to fall to that. Did they write the wrenches down? Don't let them see it. Don't let them see anybody see.
Eddie
And scuba, you're saying that's what they do in the cooking shows.
Scuba Steve
They talk about the plate presentation, how it looks.
Bobby Bones
There's no plate presentation.
Scuba Steve
Paper plates with plastic forks and how it looks. How it looks as the meat.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
And I genuinely don't know which one of you cooked which.
Brandon
Do you want me to bring you the.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, please do.
Nick Baumgartner
Okay,
Scuba Steve
man. I wrote down a number, and I may want. I don't know if I want to switch it back to another one.
Bobby Bones
You've already written down your number.
Eddie
Guys, are you serious?
Dylan
I was pretty.
Kevin
So let's go, Eddie.
Eddie
Guys, it's that close. Yeah, it's that close.
Kevin
The Patriots got blew out. Blown out in the Super Bowl's a
Scuba Steve
little bit, like, too salty, but I don't mind it.
Kevin
This is like the Cowboys, you know, expect a lot, and then they just disappoint.
Bobby Bones
Can I get a sheet, please? I don't want to see theirs before I write my answer down.
Eddie
Dang.
Dylan
That was a pretty straightforward for me.
Bobby Bones
It was.
Dylan
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Oh, okay.
Eddie
All right, Dylan.
Dylan
I mean, I thought it was pretty.
Eddie
That makes me feel a little better. Yeah.
Dylan
So.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
So.
Eddie
Oh, man. Do you know?
Bobby Bones
Do you know I'm looking at those there too?
Nick Baumgartner
This is wild.
Bobby Bones
Somebody picked number one. Somebody picked number two.
Eddie
And that's not including yours.
Bobby Bones
Mine's written already written down here below. Dylan, which one did you pick?
Dylan
I picked number one because the flavor's better, but I wish I could take the consistency and the texture and the feel of number two and put it with the taste of number one.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Dylan
Just in hybrid, but, you know, overall, I'm something on eating.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Dylan
I'm gonna go taste. So I went number one.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Okay. And Scuba, you picked number two.
Scuba Steve
I did, yes. It looked like a traditional brisket and had the. The texture of it and taste because one was really good, but. But I think afterwards, the aftertaste is a little bit too salty. Almost like old people food.
Dylan
Oh, wow.
Eddie
Wow. Cafeteria.
Bobby Bones
You eat old people food at the
Scuba Steve
old people home, like Piccadilly.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so before I reveal my answer, because I already have it written down, I cannot change it, I would like to know whose was number one.
Eddie
Can I look at them? I'll tell you what it is.
Dylan
Which one?
Bobby Bones
Well, it's always been the same.
Eddie
I don't know. I bet. Let me see.
Brandon
I can tell you what's number one and number two.
Bobby Bones
Oh, okay. So number one was more straightforward. The edges weren't blackened. Number two was more blackened around the edges.
Eddie
That's mine for sure. Blackened around the edges.
Bobby Bones
Brandon.
Brandon
Number one is Kevin and number two is Eddie.
Bobby Bones
I have my answer. Oh, my God.
Bobby.
I just want to set this up first because it's. I'm already down, so I cannot change. I'm not.
Nick Baumgartner
I'm not.
Bobby Bones
O's the mentalist. I'm not riding it with my pinky behind the screen or anything. It's already down. Here's what I want to say. They're both excellent. Okay? So there's that.
Eddie
This is crazy.
Bobby Bones
It.
Kevin
It.
Bobby Bones
It could be one of the greatest upsets in cooking history.
Shut up.
I said it could be.
Kevin
Relax.
Bobby Bones
I said it could be. If Kevin pulls this off.
Kevin
Come on, baby.
Bobby Bones
It could be the greatest upset in cooking history. They were both dynamic, so you both should be very proud.
Kevin
Thank you.
Eddie
Somebody wants to hear that.
Nick Baumgartner
Let's go.
Bobby Bones
The winner.
Eddie
You wanna take another bite?
Bobby Bones
I don't need to.
Eddie
I will. Cause you want to.
Bobby Bones
It's good. I'd like to have a little sauce and maybe bring a vegetable.
Kevin
I got some garlic.
Bobby Bones
I did tell my wife. I was like, I gotta eat more vegetables. I'm just eating all meat at the house. Because here's the thing about me. I love meat in my mouth all the time. Wake up in the morning challenge for you. Go to bed. Can I have meat in my mouth? The winner of the meat my mouth challenge is. Eddie. How bad would this be for you if you lose? No, I would leave.
Eddie
I'm leaving. I'm leaving. I'm going straight home.
Bobby Bones
Kevin, how bad. How cool would it be for you if you want.
Kevin
Dude, it would make my year. Like, I will come. Oh, the entire year. I'm coming to every show and I'm changing my Instagram handle from Kickoff Kevin. To the brisket master.
Bobby Bones
Shut up.
Dylan
Cookout Kevin.
Eddie
Shut up.
Kevin
Just because I was confident he was.
Bobby Bones
Cookout Kevin. Cookout Kevin. Yes.
Nick Baumgartner
That's Dylan.
Kevin
This is a food influencer.
Bobby Bones
The winner of the meat in my mouth challenge is.
Nick Baumgartner
Come on, baby.
Eddie
Come on, baby.
Bobby Bones
Number.
Eddie
Come on, baby.
Bobby Bones
2.
The Brookie is here. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow.
So there. Kevin, it was awesome.
Dylan
Thank you.
Bobby Bones
Yours is awesome.
Kevin
You know what?
Nick Baumgartner
I'll take it.
Eddie
Hey, who. Who did one?
Bobby Bones
It's a very direct made performance. It's two. You shouldn't be here. So, so quick.
Kevin
I'm a little ahead.
Bobby Bones
You shouldn't have got this close this early, but you did a heck of a job.
Nick Baumgartner
Thank you, guys.
Bobby Bones
Now, did you have an easy schedule getting here? Yeah. You played nobody. But,
Kevin
hey, I can only play who's in Front of me.
Bobby Bones
That's right. I can only play who's in front of me.
Eddie
It's not on you.
Nick Baumgartner
But I had one person.
Bobby Bones
I think I'm glad. Scuba and Dylan, because it was that close. Solid, right? Dylan.
Eddie
Solid.
Dylan
Both fantastic.
Eddie
Okay, who did Dylan pick?
Dylan
I picked one.
Kevin
He picked me. Dylan just went up in my book. Scuba.
Eddie
And then Scuba, you went to.
Scuba Steve
I went to, yeah. Because one was a little too salty.
Bobby Bones
I thought they both were very flavorful. I both were great. So when I have any critique, I think they beat anybody else that we play this game with. They're both that good. So this is basically Forrest Gump at the, what, 92 Oscars up against John Travolta and Pulp Fiction.
Eddie
Dang.
Bobby Bones
Which one are you, Mike? Am I right about any of that?
Nick Baumgartner
1944.
Bobby Bones
Okay, thank you. Thank you. I knew it, right? You talk about both dynamic, fantastic stuff. That being said, what separated it for me was number one, Kevin's. It was not tough, but it was a little tougher than Eddie's, which I put Eddie's in my mouth, and it was like the butter slightly melted in the microwave. And you put it in your.
Eddie
No, he's talking about my brisket, guys.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Or am I? Great job, guys. Eddie is the. Eddie is the king.
Eddie
And look, you're eating some more of mine, man. Enjoy it. Hey, you want some chips and salsa, too? I made some homemade salsa if you're interested.
Nick Baumgartner
Got work.
Eddie
Okay.
Brandon
All right.
Nick Baumgartner
I'm gonna be honest, guys.
Brandon
If. If Eddie would have lost, I was. I was gonna, like, follow you home.
Eddie
I was about to tell Dylan, like, take over the cameras. Yeah, I'm out. I'm leaving.
Brandon
Right.
Kevin
God, that would have been the biggest.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but the problem with that is Dylan might be better at the camera. He's younger.
Eddie
You want to do a camera on.
Brandon
All right, next Monday, camera.
Bobby Bones
Oh, my God.
Kevin
Man, I was worried about that char. I was like, I didn't get that char that I'm looking for.
Eddie
Let me tell you. Let me tell you. I was a little stressed out because I did mine last night. I did it yesterday, all day yesterday. I put it in 11am thinking it's gonna be a 10 hour smoke by about, you know, 8 or so. It'll be ready to go, guys.
Bobby Bones
At 8.
Eddie
It was not even halfway done, really. And so mine was not ready till last night at 1 in the morning.
Kevin
Really?
Julian Edelman
Are you awake?
Bobby Bones
You stay up.
Eddie
I had to set alarm every 30 minutes and be like, go check it. So the fact that I had to wait that Long. I was worried it was gonna be completely dry, but it wasn't. Came out great.
Brandon
Are there any sponsors you want to thank or.
Eddie
No?
Kevin
Me.
Bobby Bones
I sponsored both of them. Bobby paid for.
Kevin
I will say. I got the brisket for $72. You gave me 75. It was perfect.
Eddie
Yeah, man. Good job.
Bobby Bones
What are you talking about, good job? Was there enough to, like, feed the family for a while?
Kevin
Yeah, I'm taking some home. I got the whole thing here, but I'm gonna take it home.
Eddie
That's the first bite out of the brisket.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. So you have enough to, like, feed your family. So I fed your families in multiple ways this week?
Eddie
Yes. Great.
Bobby Bones
In the end. In the end, I am the winner. I am the great.
Kevin
That was fun, though. It was stressful.
Eddie
It was so stressful.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
I was stressing yesterday, prepping Saturday.
Bobby Bones
I went to the bathroom, and I don't know who's.
Eddie
Who's.
Bobby Bones
But I see Eddie, like, fighting in that igloo thing up the stairs. He's like, I need five minutes. He's like, hit walls with it. I was.
Eddie
I was worrying Kevin because I told him that I got. They're bringing the smoker in, like, 30 minutes, and he thought they were going to roll the real smoker out.
Kevin
I thought your family, like, your boys are going to be in on it.
Bobby Bones
Fresh off the smoker. Okay, so we'll move away from that. Great job. Thank you. Good for me. Worth 150 bucks for sure. Just to see both of you guys stressed.
Kevin
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
All right.
Kevin
That was fun.
Eddie
Good job, Kevin.
Kevin
Thanks. You, too.
Bobby Bones
Let's go. We will, we will talk. Some NFL draft coming up. We do have some sports to do.
Julian Edelman

Nick Baumgartner
Why?
Bobby Bones
What's wrong?
Julian Edelman
Nothing's wrong. You look like a guy running on three hours of sleep and vibes.
Jack
Okay. Yeah, I'm tired, kind of cranky, and very thirsty.
Julian Edelman
Congrats. Those are some of the potential signs of mild dehydration. And I bet your last bathroom break showed you another sign your body might be throwing you a penalty flag.
Jack
So what's the play?
Julian Edelman
Call Liquid IV hydration multiplier. One stick in water helps hydrate faster than water alone.
Jack
Okay, but where's the proof?
Julian Edelman
Liquid IVs. Clinical studies. Not just a guy. I know real science. Results you can trust.
Jack
Well, take a look at me now. Liquid IV is officially part of my daily hydration routine. Past the firecracker Popsicle flavor.

Bobby Bones
We will talk the Masters for a second because Dylan went to the freaking masters. So we've not talked about so Eddie sent me this note too. He's like, did you know Dylan went to the masters?
Eddie
Did we not talk about this we did not.
Kevin
I didn't know.
Eddie
No, no, we did. No, when I was leaving. Oh, that's right. He's, like, going to the Masters Sunday.
Bobby Bones
Where did we talk about this then? We talked about it on something.
Dylan
Oh, I talked to you. Was it Friday? You were there, right?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think it was like the wizard of Oz. And you were there. And you were there. You were the scarecrow. But we talked about it on this show, did we not?
Eddie
We didn't.
Dylan
I guess we didn't, no.
Bobby Bones
Because I didn't know to say Dylan
Nick Baumgartner
was going to go.
Bobby Bones
And I was. And we talked about my trip there.
Eddie
We talked about you being there.
Bobby Bones
You guys just don't listen. I'm almost positive we talked about it.
Dylan
I think it was off air because
Bobby Bones
I was like, dylan, if you grab a seat, you probably won't grab your seat and run to that spot.
Kevin
And this never happened.
Dylan
Yeah, I don't think that was recorded.
Eddie
That was in your dreams.
Nick Baumgartner
Must not have been recorded. But you were there.
Bobby Bones
Dylan went to the Masters.
Kevin
That's awesome.
Eddie
Sunday.
Nick Baumgartner
And Sunday, the best day.
Bobby Bones
The reason is his. His wife works for corporate.
Dylan
Yeah, we'll say corporate.
Bobby Bones
Okay, we'll go with that. And so he went down and he got tickets to go. And what did you. Did you get there? I'm burping up excellent brisket, by the way.
Dylan
That's good smoke flavor, good burps.
Bobby Bones
Did you get there right when it was gates open?
Dylan
Oh, yeah.
Bobby Bones
And what did you do? What was your move?
Dylan
We went to Amen Corner. We had two chairs.
Eddie
Ah, yes.
Dylan
We got first row at Amen Corner.
Bobby Bones
So you ran and set them down.
Dylan
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Isn't that cool that once you set them down, nobody can move them?
Dylan
It's fantastic. I had to kick three people out like, three times, but it was always a pleasant experience.
Eddie
Where were they? They're trying to sit in your chair.
Dylan
Yeah. So it's like people can sit in your chair. And it's like just an understood thing. If you come up behind and be like, hey, you. You know, thanks for keeping it warm or whatever. It's our seats. People get up and move. But if there's a chair, you can sit in whatever you like.
Bobby Bones
So you guys didn't hear this?
Kevin
Dang.
Bobby Bones
But what happens is if you have a chair, it's a specific chair, too.
Dylan
Yeah. Green master's chair.
Bobby Bones
You, as soon as wherever you put it, it lives there and it's yours for the whole day. So you put it somewhere where you want to sit. But while you're gone. Other people can sit in it if it's empty. But when you go back to that chair, they got to get up. That's your seat. It's your reserved seat for the whole day. So what you do, it's much like as a kid, if you're at the Texas Giant, you want to go ride that. You know there's a long line right when the gate opens. You run the Texas Giant. You run to a. To a place that you want to have your seat all day. And you ran right to Amen Corner, right?
Dylan
Yep.
Bobby Bones
That's cool. Did you walk around, though?
Eddie
I might. So where do you get the chair? Like, do they give it to you? You have to buy it.
Dylan
You can buy it. You can buy it in the shop. It seemed like everyone that was there that early already had chairs, though. We got ours via my wife's company, so we already had them, which is great. But you can buy them at the store before or during or whenever. So some people that have been there all week, they'll go, like, one of the practice rounds, get it then.
Kevin
And it has to be a master's chair.
Bobby Bones
Yes. You can't show up in the lawn chair.
Eddie
That's what I was thinking. Okay.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. So I'm assuming you also, after you put the chair down, went walking around?
Dylan
Yeah, we did. We went up to. Went up to the first tee box, saw the first three groups tee off there. And then we went to Founder Circle, got a picture, and we walked during the whole course.
Bobby Bones
You got a picture? Yeah.
Dylan
They take a picture in front of.
Bobby Bones
They take it up? Yeah, Yeah. I was about to turn him in.
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
I was about to get his tickets taken for next year.
Dylan
GBI just kicks in the door. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So you got a picture taken, did you? How did you feel about, like, trying to follow golf, the famous golfers?
Dylan
So we didn't follow anyone because we knew it would be tough, especially on Sunday. And the people like not to knock anybody, but, like, you know, the good, really good, entertaining groups didn't kick tee off to, like, around 11 30. So we kind of just walked around until then. So we got to catch different things. Like, we saw Brooks on a par three. I think it was on six. So we saw people that way. We didn't necessarily follow anybody, but it was crazy. I was telling Brandon this. It's just hard to keep, like, you have no idea what's going on at any point in time ever. You'll hear roars, and you're just like, okay. And I still don't know, I haven't watched the round back, so I have no clue, like, 90 of the stuff that happened yesterday.
Bobby Bones
Because unless you're. Unless you see the main scoreboard or you see one of the little ones walking around, you don't know what people's scores are either. If you're, like, watching them hit in a fair way, you don't even see the ball. No phones, so there's no way to keep track. There's not, like a little app they give you to keep. It's just. You're just there talking to people or having to walk to the middle to see the scoreboard, to see where it is.
Kevin
That's crazy.
Bobby Bones
And then there are roars just randomly all around you, and you're like, I wonder what happened. Yeah, what else was cool? What was it? What was cool about it?
Dylan
I met Daniel Jones.
Eddie
Oh, you did?
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Dylan
He was walking around and I was thinking, they gotta love that because no phones. It's probably just people coming up. Hey, you're great.
Eddie
See you later.
Dylan
That's it?
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Dylan
No pictures, nothing.
Bobby Bones
Say hi.
Dylan
No.
Bobby Bones
Oh, so you didn't meet him?
Dylan
He was next to me, yeah. Chatted briefly, but I wasn't.
Bobby Bones
You talked to him?
Dylan
Yeah, I wasn't like, hey, how's it going?
Nick Baumgartner
What's up?
Dylan
Daniel Jones? Well, he said something about college
Kevin
and
Bobby Bones
then you transferred up to the Northeast.
Dylan
You don't know me. Come on. But no, didn't talk to him. Like, I don't know. I'm weird about stuff like that. I don't like to, like, like, bother people. 90 of the time.
Bobby Bones
So was he a nice guy?
Dylan
Yeah, super nice.
Bobby Bones
Was he larger?
Dylan
Oh, my God.
Bobby Bones
Was he larger? Yeah, they're always big.
Jacked.
Dylan
I was so shocked. Like, he. Super tall.
Bobby Bones
How was his Achilles? You take a look. Go down and take a look.
Dylan
I should have, like, lifted up his pant leg and been like, oh, yeah, the baby's tight, for sure.
Bobby Bones
Was he walking around, like, pretty good?
Nick Baumgartner
Yeah, he looked great.
Bobby Bones
Crutches looked great.
Dylan
No crochets.
Nick Baumgartner
Calves were.
Bobby Bones
Calves were strong. Always. In short, he's in shorts, right?
Kevin
Big calves, huh? Nice.
Dylan
Great calves. Like, it's pretty.
Julian Edelman
Give us an example.
Bobby Bones
What did you wear?
Dylan
I wore khaki shorts. Masters pole and master's hat.
Nick Baumgartner
Perfect.
Eddie
Like he's playing golf.
Bobby Bones
Did you buy the stuff there?
Dylan
No, this was from my wife. Got it for me a few years ago.
Bobby Bones
And did you wear it prior to this, ever?
Dylan
Maybe once or twice.
Kevin
Poser.
Bobby Bones
Poser. Now you can.
Dylan
Now that's what I said. We Were walking out. I was like, I can finally say, yeah, I've actually been.
Bobby Bones
So where were you when it ended? Were you still on the grounds?
Dylan
Yeah, so we. So we were at 18, so we thought it would be smart. So when Rory and Cam Young came through in corner, we immediately packed up after they finished and went to 18. Thought we were spry. It was like an hour and a half before they were going to get there. No shot. No shot. So we were, like, down behind a tree, like, trying to see. And we watched Scotty Finish up on 18. And we're like, okay. Justin Rose, you know, he's within striking distance. He was at 11 under, going in 17. Bogey, 17. Roy had three strokes. We're like, there's no point in staying. So we dipped out. And it.
Bobby Bones
It.
Dylan
It worked out. It saved me, like, an hour worth of traffic. But, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Pretty cool, huh?
Dylan
Yeah, pretty. Pretty awesome stuff.
Bobby Bones
What'd you think of the grounds?
Dylan
Unreal.
Bobby Bones
So green, right?
Eddie
Unreal.
Dylan
And it's like the fairways and the greens and even, like, just the walking. It's just like turf. It doesn't look like real grass. Like, I stopped when we were going to put our chairs down. I was just, like, rubbing the fairway. My wife's like, like, what are you doing? And I'm like, this is incredible. I don't know.
Eddie
I don't know how.
Dylan
You're not touching the grass right now. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
What about the food?
Dylan
10 out of 10. Tried everything on the menu.
Eddie
Everything?
Kevin
Everything.
Dylan
Oh, yeah.
Eddie
Is it a big menu or.
Bobby Bones
It's not a massive menu. I mean, there's some stuff, but it's not.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
It's not Cheesecake Factory.
Eddie
I've seen egg salad, egg salad sandwiches.
Nick Baumgartner
Right?
Eddie
That's a thing.
Bobby Bones
And the pimento.
Dylan
Yeah, yeah.
Kevin
There were the guy who got the hat. Baked salad.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I saw that.
Eddie
Hey, what about the birds? Are the birds as loud as they are on tv? Because on tv, the birds are very deafening.
Dylan
They're so loud. Like when we were sitting. Amen corner. That's all you hear is just the birds. Like, they're. It's insane. You can see them flying around. They're flying around like crazy, but super loud. Yeah. Just as loud as on tv.
Bobby Bones
I'm not convinced. They're not robot birds.
Julian Edelman
Right?
Dylan
British spies.
Bobby Bones
I am not government spies. So give me your top three. You may have already said it, but I don't want to miss anything. Top three things you come away with after going to the Masters.
Dylan
All right, number three.
Bobby Bones
I like it. Reverse order. Okay.
Dylan
You got to build up here, you know?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, go ahead.
Dylan
Number three is, like we said, the. The grounds. I mean, everyone always says how great it is, and you're like, my expectations were high already, but it tenfold. Like, it was just absolutely incredible. Number two, my favorite thing, there's these guys. A lot of people know this. There's guys that hide in the woods behind every green. What do they do? And every tee box. And as soon as the golfers finish up on the greens, they sprint out of the woods, maintain the greens. Like, they'll blow dry it. Or if there's a bunker shot, they'll put the sand, like, make the sand go away.
Kevin
Oh, keep everything camouflage on.
Dylan
Yeah, they, like, have. They have dark green shirts.
Bobby Bones
I mean, they're not in full camo, but. Yeah.
Dylan
Running out like marines.
Eddie
That would be scary. If you saw camo guys come out
Brandon
there, they're like little trolls that.
Nick Baumgartner
Yeah.
Dylan
Yeah. So that's number two. I thought that was funny. And the number one is just, like, being so present is. It was incredible. Like, I talked to so many people that I'll never see again. But, like, if we had phones, no shot. I talk to these people.
Bobby Bones
Did you see any other celebrities?
Dylan
No, I didn't, but a girl behind me saw Bradley Cooper, and then one of my wife's friends saw Peyton Manning, so I was a little upset. I missed Peyton Manning.
Bobby Bones
That's cool.
Dylan
Yep.
Bobby Bones
It's a fun experience.
Dylan
10 out of 10, isn't it?
Bobby Bones
And you may have a different recollection than I did driving up to it. It's just like a gated, weird property until you get like. Yeah, like, the course is on the right, the road, but you don't even know it because it's, like, gay. It's like a normal gate with like. Like a tarp over it type thing.
Dylan
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Then when you get to the front, you're like, oh, did you have that experience at all?
Dylan
Yeah, it's really weird. So it's off, like, a traditional southern main road in the town. Like, you have just, like, all the fast food. Like, it just totally looks so normal.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Dylan
And then you take a right and you're just like, at the course. It's like, what? It's like, what? And then you pull in just to grab a lot. And then obviously everything's fenced so you can't see anything. You walk in, you're like, oh, everything just changes like that. When you walk in. The grant, the greens, everything.
Bobby Bones
It reminds me a bit of. For us in this room, if you've come to Nashville, the Bluebird, meaning the Bluebird is historic. And you've seen the television show Nashville. There's a documentary about it, all these songwriters. Garth Brooks was found at the Bluebird. Taylor Swift was found at the Bluebird. When you come to it, it's in a fricking strip mall. And you're like, what the heck? That's it. And then you get in and it's tight, super tight and packed. But you're like, oh, I feel it. Like, this is cool. But when you get to it, you drive to it, you arrive, you're like, what the heck is this?
Kevin
Yeah. There's like image in your head, and it just doesn't do it justice until you get.
Bobby Bones
And then when it starts, you're like, oh, I get why this experience is that special. Like, you're in so tight. The people are in around. It's not this exactly the same, but that would be the comparison here. But it would. Do you want to go back next year?
Dylan
Oh, if I could go back every year for the rest of my life, I would.
Electric For All Representative
100%.
Dylan
Yeah, 100%.
Kevin
Would you go four days or just one and you're good?
Dylan
If I had no responsibilities, I'd go four days. Like, it's just the most serene, awesome thing. Yeah. Incredible.
Bobby Bones
You're young. You probably got a Coachella, too. No way.
Dylan
Sleep in a tent.
Bobby Bones
No way.
Nick Baumgartner
Days.
Dylan
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I think it'd be fun to go every few years. It's just. It's a lot. Yeah. Traffic, Augusta. Been Augusta a bunch of times. Not for golf, but just for shows or station stuff. And it's a small town. It's a. Traffic's a beast. Yeah, you gotta. You gotta do what he did, but on purpose. You gotta leave. Unless it's something really cool at the end. You're wait for. But then you're gonna be in traffic for two hours. This is old man talking, though. Now it's like, I don't want to be in. But yeah, it's super cool. I was thinking last night, I've been very fortunate. No, I haven't. I've worked hard, so screw that.
Kevin
Nice.
Bobby Bones
Not before now.
Scuba Steve
I haven't.
Bobby Bones
I've worked super hard to get this crap. I've been to the Masters, I've been to the super bowl multiple. But I just say Super Bowl. Been to the World Series. Basketball, baseball, football. The only one. The only one. I don't. I've been to the Stanley cup finals. I just haven't been to the NBA Finals. It's the Only one I haven't been to. That's crazy to think of now, considering I never went to anything as a kid. No games. It's a parent to take me anywhere. That's the one I got to check off, is go to the NBA Finals, and I've been to all the pro things. And that's. I was thinking about it yesterday. I was like, I haven't been to the Masters. What other ones I've been to because I only went to the World Series because the Cubs were in it. Super bowl for work a couple times. Masters, because they're friends that. Where'd you guys. Where'd you stay? Anywhere. Just drive down and drive back.
Dylan
One of her. Her company had a few houses, so
Bobby Bones
we said, awesome, man. If you have, like, a house in Augusta, you can, like, Airbnb the F out of that thing for a few days at that time. That's cool.
Dylan
They made some crazy.
Kevin
Yeah, that's awesome, man.
Dylan
What's it?
Eddie
You don't have an NBA team, do you? No.
Bobby Bones
So, like, my wife. Well, I should have gone to Thunder last year because my wife. My wife and her family are massive Thunder fans, and I got invited to go out.
Eddie
Oh, wow.
Bobby Bones
And they were like, hey, you should come to one of the finals games.
Eddie
You didn't realize that's the one you've never been to.
Bobby Bones
I know. Traffic.
Kevin
I get it.
Bobby Bones
But I should go now and check that and check the box. But that's super cool, Dylan. Yeah, that's awesome.
Eddie
And, dude, you should go back and watch Sunday, because Sunday was crazy. Like at the Masters, that fourth round.
Kevin
Yeah, there's a.
Eddie
How many leads were there?
Dylan
Yeah, there was tons.
Eddie
So many different leads.
Bobby Bones
I bet on Rory at the. Before it started, 100 bucks. In a way, I won $1,300.
Nick Baumgartner
That's pretty good.
Dylan
I mean, consecutive wins was. I mean, he's the fourth one to do it.
Bobby Bones
I did. The only other bet that I made was Scheffler to be in the top five, and he did. And I didn't think he was going to.
Kevin
Came on strong.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Yeah. I got second. I think I bet 250. I won like, 620. It wasn't that. That was a massive pay, but it
Eddie
was because, hey, man, he wasn't doing that well.
Bobby Bones
No.
Eddie
You know, so not until the. Not till Saturday. That's when he started climbing. I think he shot seven under on Saturday.
Bobby Bones
One other thing is that Kevin did not scam Cobra Golf.
Eddie
Oh, yeah, he did.
Bobby Bones
Kevin did not scam. Oh, my gosh.
Eddie
He did Cobra Golf gave him golf clubs.
Bobby Bones
Why did this even come up?
Eddie
Oh, we were talking about playing golf, and. And I think I talked about, like, if I would have won a bet, I'm gonna buy these new Titleist irons. And Kevin's like, oh, yeah, I got. I got new irons. Like, brand new irons. I'm like, like, you bought irons? Like, no, I didn't buy them. Cobra gave them to me. And I was like. Then he finally told me the story. I'm like, this sounds familiar. Scammer alert.
Kevin
As if he wasn't there for the whole thing.
Bobby Bones
The whole thing?
Nick Baumgartner
Yeah.
Eddie
Guys, I'm forgetting everything. I think I'm getting Alzheimer's.
Bobby Bones
At least you say it right.
Eddie
Yeah, man. Forgetting everything.
Bobby Bones
So, yes, we were going to shoot a series, so I had to deal with Cobra for a year and a half, I guess, maybe two years. And so clubs. I did social media stuff for them, and I was like, hey, we'll do a series with Kevin trying to break 200 or something. I don't remember what it was.
Kevin
It was 90. It was 90 something realistic.
Bobby Bones
And my guy that I did the deal with left Cobra, and he was like, hey, I'm leaving. I'm going to a different company. And so when he left, our debts were paid. They never had me back again. And also, my deal. I wasn't playing any more golf, though, and my deal didn't renew itself.
Eddie
But Kevin did get irons from him, right?
Bobby Bones
I got irons and we gave them to Kevin. Yeah, if we're being. But, yes, they were for Kevin. He got them fitted, we went and did the whole thing, but it was mostly through my deal.
Eddie
Okay, that makes sense.
Bobby Bones
No, you're being a hater.
Eddie
No, I thought. I thought Cobra was like, hey, guys, did we ever see anything from that Kevin kickoff?
Bobby Bones
Kevin break 200 series?
Kevin
No, but he got those clubs.
Bobby Bones
We were gonna do that series of Hit one in the fairway. Does anybody remember that? All right, let's take a break.

All right, let us welcome Nick Baumgartner with us, who is a senior writer at the Athletic one of the best in the business when it comes to analyzing the NFL draft. Michigan native who covered the Wolverines program for a bunch of years has a Lions podcast called welcome to Detroit. Absolutely. How are you doing?

I'm doing pretty good. Yeah. Just some questions I was thinking before you came on. Number one, I did see and something that you had mentioned was Diego Pavia. Like, what's going to happen with Diego Pavia?
Nick Baumgartner
I don't know. You know, at best, at best he's going to be a backup of some of some sort in the NFL. But I'm not sure if that's, you know, where that's going to go. I mean he's very small. He's an outlier in so many ways with the size and everything else. But also like I am curious how many teams we saw this last year with Shador Sanders. I'm curious how many teams are wanting to invest in a quarterback who's going to come with baggage, who's going to be like, I want to have this media career. I want to be like a budding, you know, this, that, the other. So I don't know if it'll be more than just like a flash when he gets a tryout in camp and that's all we see. He bounces around for a minute and then he, he's maybe off to some minor league situation, I'm not sure. But I just don't think he has the size or sort of the requisite arm talent to do it in the NFL.
Bobby Bones
The NFL don't. They don't really want backups who want reporters at their locker. Right, right.
Nick Baumgartner
That's kind of the thing. I mean, that was the thing with Shador that I think people, you know, they got a lot of people got in their feelings for a lot of different reasons. Some of it was valid, some of it wasn't. But the reason why he fell as far as he did, which it was a fall, obviously it was a multiple round deal. It was because, you know, we don't want the backup quarterback because that's coming in here to do at best to distract from every other thing that we're doing, including our starter, our offense, our offensive coordinator, whatever else it is, we'll put up with that. If it's a, you know, generational starter, maybe, but we're not going to do it with a backup. And I think that that's sort of the end of the, end of the day thing with quarterbacks right now pretty much settle.
Bobby Bones
Mendoza is going to go to the Raiders at one. But where does Mendoza fall into like the last few years of quarterback?
Nick Baumgartner
Yeah, it's A great question. I think, like, I think he's probably somewhere a little bit lower than maybe Cam Ward. Maybe right around the same area as Cam Ward. I think he's a quality future starter, you know, maybe mid levels. You know, that sometimes that scares people. But I think that that's fine. Like, I think he's my comp for him is a more athletic Jared Goff. Like, I think if you protect him and you put, you know, a good offensive line in front of him, give him a good run game him, you know, a capable defense, he's going to be okay. Like he's going to be able to win games, get a team to a Super bowl, do all the things that, you know, we expect from a, from a starter who's capable, who's going to be an extension guy and make a lot of money. Kirk Cousins is another great comp for him. Maybe not a guy that like, lights anybody up every, you know, for the rest of his career, but a guy that's hard to ignore, who's very consistent, just probably not generational, you know, I guess, if that makes any sense. But just a solid player who I don't think is going to be a bad NFL quarterback.
Bobby Bones
Which also makes sense as to why they would get Kirk Cousins to come to the Raiders before. Before they draft Mendoza. Right?
Nick Baumgartner
Yeah, it's a perfect. I thought that was a perfect addition. I'm a big fan of you bring a rookie in, I want that rookie to be able to at least compete with and beat out a veteran, a capable veteran. Let's see if he can, what he's got in camp number one and then number two. You know, when that happens, if it happens, whatever it is. Either way, Mendoza is going to be able to work with Kirk Cousins all year. And Kirk Cousins is, you know, a pretty selfless guy. He's going to be there for it no matter what. If he, he doesn't win the job, he'll be Mendoza's biggest fan. And even for a year, if it's no more than that, whatever it is, you know, that's going to be invaluable, you know, knowledge that he's going to be able to get from a guy who's been around for a long time. So I thought it was great.
Bobby Bones
I was looking at your latest mock. Only one quarterback going to the first round for you, and these other guys have a chance to move up.
Nick Baumgartner
So I think Ty Simpson for me is sort of in that. A little bit lower than the Jackson Dart thing, maybe last year, that range, but probably Right in that same area. Like, it wouldn't shock me if, if somebody really likes Ty Simpson or a couple teams really like Ty Simpson and somebody at the bottom of the first maybe makes a move up, maybe, you know, Houston trades out or somebody like this at like 25, 26, somewhere in there, somebody comes up, gets their quarterback, you know, low risk, whatever it is, they want to get him on the extra year at the end of the first round. That's about the only thing I could see otherwise. I think you could probably just sit and wait, you know, because I think he's. I don't think he's a first round, first round quarterback. I think that this, this class in general's probably a little bit like last year, maybe a little bit weaker, but probably pretty close to what last year's was. So I think dart was right in that same range. Simpson could be good, we just don't know. And I think that that's the big mystery right now. And, you know, other beyond that, it becomes Garrett Nussmeier, who I think is a solid backup candidate, Carson, Beck and etc.
Bobby Bones
Nussmeyer is interesting because if you had asked before the season, you're like, nuss Meyer for sure is going to be a first round pick, at least according to the census. However, he didn't have a great year, but also he was hurt, or at least supposedly he was hurt through most of the year. Is there a chance that if a guy was hurt that he actually can move up a bunch, though? If that was the factor that made him not perform his last year, I
Nick Baumgartner
think I don't know about a bunch, but I think in Nussmeier's case it'll be significant because I think when teams saw him at the Senior bowl and they saw him fully healthy, it was a different deal. It was like, whoa, this is the guy that we thought we were going to see in terms of arm talent, in terms of mobility, in terms of consistent accuracy, all those types of things from the pocket. So it was like he was much healthier in January, February. So you could see it. And I don't think he talked about it much during the season. Pretty tough guy. I think that did help him quite a bit that he was healthier and he came out and showed up. Mark Bernowski is another guy, lower on the list. Obviously that was probably undraftable, but went to the Shrine bowl after playing in Iowa's bowl game. Also a little bit healthier, but was in no way healthy during the season, was terrible in the bowl game, in The Shrine bowl was really good and I think it'll probably be maybe a candidate for a day three pick. But in Nussmeier's case, I don't think the gap between Ty Simpson and Garrett Nussmeier is super wide. I think Nussmeier is a really quality future backup who could steal a couple starts for you here and there. Smart player, son of a coach, all that stuff who I think is going to be an asset for somebody. I don't think he'll make it to day three. I think he might be gone by the end of day two.
Bobby Bones
There isn't a wild when you look at Reese or Sonny Stiles or Carnell Tate or Caleb Downs that Ohio State didn't win the friggin national championship considering the talent they had on their team.
Nick Baumgartner
Well, they want it last year. I guess you give them a little bit of a break but you flip it on the other side and you're like Jeremiah Smith for next year is just like he's going to be the number one pick. Julian Saying is a really good quarterback to get the running back there, that's really good. I don't know how they didn't pull it off, but yeah, defensively this was as freaky as they're probably ever going to have, I would imagine. I mean you've got a guy like Sonny Styles who wouldn't even really know what his position I guess maybe technically will be in the NFL could be like five things the guy could end up playing. Downs is awesome, Reese is awesome. So yeah, tough break for the Buckeys, but I mean we're not going to feel too bad for Ohio State. They win a lot. So I don't think anybody's trying to outside of Ohio.
Bobby Bones
There's a couple guys that are probably top talent wise, but they don't play a position that would get them drafted as high. And I'm curious of both of those guys. One would be Jeremiah Love. A lot of people say he could be 1, 2 best like players in the draft. Just his position as a running back and the other one which we mentioned was Caleb Downs. Like those two guys, do you believe they are elite? It's just their position holding them back a little bit.
Nick Baumgartner
Oh absolutely. I think Love is my number one player in the class. I think him for sure he is, you know, I think he's. I certainly have him above Ashton Jeanty from last year. I think there's several teams in the NFL that would agree. I think most, the NFL probably would agree with that one at this point, I think. I think love is in the Bijan Robinson, Jameer Gibbs tier. Right. Those guys are about to set the market here, I think, in this coming off season. And that's really what you're looking for now. Now in a modern NFL running back. The McCaffrey thing kind of too, where it's like, I don't ever have to take him off the field. He'd be a great receiver when I need him to be a great receiver. He can run inside, he can run outside and do anything. We don't have to be limited with what we call. He fits in any offense. If we have to fire our coach next year, it doesn't matter. He's still going to be the guy. So I think love for sure and, you know, we'll see where he goes. I could even see some teams maybe wanting to move up to get him because, I mean, if a contender, maybe even, or somebody a little bit lower because he's so talented, wanted like Kansas City signed Walker because I don't think they thought he was going to make it that far. So I think that's number one there. And then Downs is also in that boat. He's not as like athletically, like, whoa. As like a Kyle Hamilton or an Eamon Worry, which I think some people, you know, they look at that, they say, okay, well, that I'm out then, you know, whatever. But mentally and like, as a football player, he's the most disciplined and best tackler, smartest defender, I think probably in the class. And a guy like, again, there's just no way he's not going to be a really good player for a long time in the NFL.
Bobby Bones
The jets are at 2 and 16. The jets are also terrible. What do they do?
Nick Baumgartner
I think they just go best player. I think the reason why you trade all your guys like they did last year to get all those assets and remember, now they have a bunch next year, too. So it's not. They're one of the few teams I would. I would say, hey, you can be a little bit patient with your quarterback. Rookie quarterback in this class is not going to come in and save that mess. So. So take the best player available at every single stop. I don't care what the guy's playing, I don't care what he does. I think, you know, for me, that's Arvo Reese at number two. Take him and then move on. If it's Jordan Tyson or whoever, that drops you at 16. If it's Kenyon Sadiq, do that. I really don't Care. They need literally everything. Premium picks in the first three rounds this year and next year. That's how you rebuild yourself out. That's sort of what the Lions did when Aaron Glenn was there. They traded Safford, got a bunch of picks, and then really were bad. But, like, let those rookie guys kind of develop together. And then by year three, away we go. I don't know if the jets will give him enough time, but, like, from a franchise standpoint, that's what needs to happen.
Bobby Bones
Kind of a JV version of. That's the Cowboys. They have two picks in the first round. 2, 12 and 20. Like, what are they going to do?
Nick Baumgartner
Dallas is a really good spot. They've actually, you know, everybody kind of crashed on them for that Micah Parsons trade. And it was weird. I'm not going to lie that it wasn't weird, but they got good return out of that, that they've done a nice job, you know, kind of rebuilding their defensive line. They drafted well last year. Now they're in position, I think, at 12. And, you know, they could either package up and go get their favorite corner if it's Jermod McCoy, if it's Mansour Delaine, one of the two, you know, those are kind of big needs. They could package up and go get their favorite safety if they wanted to do that, or they could just sit and pick. And I think that they're in a good spot to just sit, get a really good corner there at 12, and then kind of do whatever they want at 26. And Dallas suddenly should be a team based on how they've drafted the last two years. I think if they hit this right, should be a team that could contend for a playoff spot again and it wouldn't surprise anybody and be right back kind of in the conversation again.
Bobby Bones
Nah, let's be honest. That ain't going to happen. That's the Cowboys. Yeah. Let's be honest.
Nick Baumgartner
I mean, it could happen. Could happen.
Bobby Bones
Well, a macro version of this draft, like, when you zoom out, like, to me, it's one quarterback and a lot of really strong defensive players. But what do you see?
Nick Baumgartner
Yeah, that's really what it is. The. This is a really good defensive class. And I think really more than that, I would. I would throw the tight ends in there and say that you got the tight ends, the linebackers and the safeties. The NFL is moving toward those positions are going to be a big deal. Right, Your tight end. We saw that last year with the Rams and some other teams putting the three out there to change the math defensively, we saw what Seattle did with Nikki Minwari moving him around. He was a linebacker and a safety. He did everything. You want hybrid guys that can move on defense that can cover those freaky tight ends, and then on the other side you want the freaky tight end that can make the math a mess defensively. So those. There's a bunch of them in this draft and I think for the first time in a long time, the NFL is ready for him for the first time ever. Isaiah Simmons, if anybody remembers him from like 10 years ago, would have loved to be in this draft now because I think if he gets picked today, he'd have been used properly tomorrow. So I think this is a good draft for sort of hybrid specialists and creative teams. I think if you paid attention to Mike McDonald last year and most teams should have have, there's quite a bit of stuff to, to gather here in this draft city.
Bobby Bones
The tight end from Oregon's a freak athlete, right?
Nick Baumgartner
Oh, yeah, yeah. Just a complete like 4, 3, 9, 40. I think he was over 40 inches on the vertical. Outstanding blocker, outstanding blocking potential. I think he can get better. Outstanding blocker in space, legit receiver. I mean, he can play the X, he can play Z. Could line up in the slot, can be a fullback, H back, tight end, regular, whatever it is. He can line up at pretty much every skill position but quarterback and be an impact guy. And I think that he's kind of your modern prototype for what that X factor offensive weapon is going to be going forward. Like when we compare tight ends down the road, I think it's going to be Sadiq and Brock Bowers, the kid from that's with the Raiders right now.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to ask a final question and there's a reason I'm going to ask this last because it's about a guard and that's not a sexy question to ask, but most of the time, you know, it's tackles, it's the outside, it's protecting the quarterback. You know, to see a guard in your top 15 in most of the top 15s, the kid from Penn State. How is a guard going so early?
Eddie
Oh, man.
Nick Baumgartner
Well, venga. You want to. He is. He is. Arguably you could make an argument that he's up there with either Fano or Maui. Go in terms of the best offensive lineman, best run blocker probably in this draft, and I think that's what seals it. He is easily the best interior lineman, number one in this class, number two. I think he's the best pound for pound probably run blocker in the class. I mean, he moves people. You notice him on film, he's uprooting guys and getting them out of the hole on, you know, on a duo call or power, whatever it is. And that anymore is pretty rare. A lot of these college teams, they like to play the zone stuff. They like to spread teams out, smaller guards. A lot of the centers this year are small, but not a lot of big gap centers. So this is a guy in Venga who has played some tackle before also that could play either guard spot and I think come into a team and immediately help reestablish or change the culture of their interior and really become, you know, help change their run game. Because I think that's what everybody's kind of looking for right now in the NFL.
Bobby Bones
Selfishly. What do you want the Lions to do?
Nick Baumgartner
Tackle would be great. But Venga, we just talked about him. I think he. If he could fall 17 if you wanted to get there. I think you got Kate, you got Maze that you just signed. You're moving potential to left tackle put. You want a there at left guard. And you've got a pretty awesome left side of your line. Again, not as good as if you would have had with brag now, but I mean, maybe long term it would have. It'll bounce out. So that's what I want.
Bobby Bones
