So you're telling me that the AI that's meant to make everyone's job easier to manage just adds more to manage? On top of the thousands of apps the IT department already manages? Funny how that works. Any business can add AI. IBM helps you scale and manage AI to change how you do business. Let's create Smile to business. IBM.
Odoo Advertiser
Running a business is hard enough. Don't make it harder with a dozen apps that don't talk to each other. One for sales, another for inventory, a separate one for accounting. And that's software overload. Odoo is the all in one platform that replaces them all. CRM, accounting, inventory, E Commerce, hr. Fully integrated, easy to use and built to grow with your business. Thousands have already made the switch. Why not you try Odoo for free@odoo.com.

Football is back.
Bobby Bones
That means it's tailgate time. And this season the only meat I'm going to grill is Dietz and Watson. I'm loving the Black Angus Dietz dogs. They're flavor packed and you can tell they are made with the highest quality ingredients. Sundays just got a whole lot better. Visit deetsandwatson.com the right way to learn more about about the deets difference. This is a podcast called 25 Whistles Talking Football and they all wear a whistle.
Tavita Pritchard
Yeah, it's stupid, but what did you expect? It's a podcast called 25 Whistles.
Bobby Bones
25 Whistles. All right, blow it. Welcome to the show. We will talk to new Stanford football coach Tavita Pritchard. And in just a second, I brought Christmas presents for Brandon and Kevin, and they aren't here.
Eddie
Oh, well, then hand them over.
Bobby Bones
No, they don't get them.
Eddie
You snooze, you lose. For real, they're not gonna get them?
Bobby Bones
No.
Eddie
Even, like, after Christmas?
Bobby Bones
No, I don't think so.
Eddie
Wow, that's.
Bobby Bones
Once Christmas is over.
Eddie
No, that's not true. That's not true. And this is no better time to tell you that the present that I want for you has not arrived. That I got for you. I bought it and has not arrived.
Bobby Bones
I bought it two weeks ago, but I'm here.
Eddie
Oh, you're not leaving?
Bobby Bones
No, I'm saying I am here on Christmas for you to go, hey, your present's not here. I have their presents here.
Eddie
That's crazy, dude. So they're just going to lose out on their presence?
Bobby Bones
I believe so.
Eddie
Wow.
Bobby Bones
Maybe not. We'll see.
Eddie
You might see Brandon, right?
Bobby Bones
We'll see. Mike, I do have yours. Oh, thank you. So, one from TikTok Shop. I can show you one of them as well. Something that I bought you because I bought you and Eddie's gifts off TikTok Shop, and I got Eddie a flamethrower, and I got you something, but I have something that I just. I can't keep in my house. So one of the things is something that.
Tavita Pritchard
Is it alive?
Bobby Bones
No. It's something that I want nothing to do with, and I own it, but I'm just going to give it to you.
Eddie
Is it legal?
Bobby Bones
Go say if they get arrested for it, it is. No, the other thing I did buy for you, here's the thing I'm going to give you because maybe you can use it for your studio. It's a Vince Young signed Longhorn. Oh, my gosh.
Eddie
That's amazing.
Bobby Bones
I'll pull my headphones out. Hold on. I can't hear you. But so you can have this. And since you're a Longhorn fan, I literally am building a new space and putting helmets into it because I collected, like, the ones I love.
Tavita Pritchard
Sorry.
Bobby Bones
I got so excited, I pulled my headphones out.
Eddie
You said, oh, my gosh.
Bobby Bones
Well, to give this thing away, I got so excited, I pulled my headphones out. It's like getting rid of that cursed doll. No joke. I've been looking for a Longhorns helmet. If you look at my Google history, it is on there. Well, so this is a Vince Young sign. It says National Champs. It's a replica home.
Eddie
That's really cool.
Bobby Bones
You can put that in your studio. That's a Christmas gift. Just mostly because I don't want it.
Eddie
And that's what you don't want in your house?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, got it. It's just been sitting there and it makes me vomit.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I walk by and I feel ill. You almost.
Eddie
You gag every time you see it.
Bobby Bones
And I thought maybe it'll add to the aesthetic from all the helmets I'm using in another place. And I just. I couldn't.
Eddie
Nah, get rid of that.
Bobby Bones
Can't use it for anything.
Jenna Kim Jones
Positive.
Tavita Pritchard
I love it.
Bobby Bones
So, okay, that's you. And then this is the thing. Eddie, would you walk. Take this to him.
Odoo Advertiser
Walk to him.
Bobby Bones
This is what I got you from Tik Tok Shop. And my wife said, that's kind of stupid. And I said, no, I think Michael like it, cuz I knew I was going to give you the helmet too.
Tavita Pritchard
I love stupid.
Bobby Bones
If it's stupid, so what it is. And you can pull it out. Ninja Turtles pizza slicer. It's a Ninja Turtle pizza slicer. That looks like one of the Ninja Turtle ones. You know how you get targeted ads? Yeah. These have both been things in my targeted ads. Really?
Tavita Pritchard
I've seen this thing on TikTok and.
Bobby Bones
I'm like, man, I would cut me a Ninja slice with that thing. I saw it and thought, man, Mike would love that. The thing is, when I showed my wife, she said, he doesn't eat pizza. He's vegan. I said, I'm sure there's something you can cut with it, though.
Eddie
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
My wife and I make these little pizza pockets. I can slice them with this thing. Can you open that? Yeah, I'd like to see. I didn't ever open the box, so.
Eddie
So it's like Raphael's weapon.
Bobby Bones
The Psy. The Psy.
Eddie
But it's got a pizza slicer thing.
Bobby Bones
It slices, it dices.
Eddie
That's hilarious, dude.
Bobby Bones
So there it is, man.
Eddie
Sometimes, you know, things pop up on Tick Tock. And you're like, this is just perfect.
Bobby Bones
I mean, do I want to call me FaceTime Kickoff Kevin.
Eddie
Yes.
Bobby Bones
He had surgery on his shoulder and so that's why he's not here. Dude, this is awesome.
Eddie
Dude, that's huge.
Bobby Bones
Oh, look at that. That's cool. Yeah, I thought you'd like that Tick Tock talk. You just. You don't know when it's going to get here, though. Sometimes it comes from, like, China.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So you don't know when it's actually going to arrive. All right, let me give. Is he, like, so hurt he can't answer the phone?
Eddie
I don't think so. He sent us a picture yesterday.
Bobby Bones
If he's not so hurt he can't answer the phone, why isn't he here?
Eddie
Well, because I don't think he can use his right arm or whatever arm it is.
Bobby Bones
Cry me a river.
Eddie
Well, he types a lot and edits.
Bobby Bones
Let's FaceTime him.
Eddie
Okay. You look good.
Bobby Bones
So close to my face. It doesn't matter. Like, when I hold it to my gun, it's so close to my face.
Eddie
Oh, no. There he is.
Bobby Bones
There he is. So we're here.
Eddie
Ask him. Why are you not here?
Kevin
Because I'm handicapped, dude. I'm on drugs.
Eddie
Oh.
Bobby Bones
Oh, okay. So we're doing.
Eddie
That makes sense.
Bobby Bones
We're doing whistles today. Okay. And we are handing out Christmas presents, and I had yours, but you're not here to get it, so. So the rule is, if you're not here, you don't get it.
Kevin
So who's gonna get it?
Bobby Bones
Are you messed up on.
Eddie
Listen to it. Listen. He's like, so who's gonna get it?
Bobby Bones
What did you have done?
Kevin
I had a complete tear in my rotator cuff. So they tore like, a tendon and replaced it and all that good stuff. And now I'm in this.
Bobby Bones
Boy, at least it's your left hand, huh? Do you think about that?
Kevin
Oh, thank God it's my left hand, or else I'd be screwed.
Bobby Bones
So how. What's the situation? You have a couple weeks now off.
Kevin
The. I'll be in the ceiling for six weeks. I don't know if it's this one, but I'll be in a sling for six. Six weeks.
Bobby Bones
No, but I'm saying you have a couple weeks off of work, so that's a. Probably advantageous to your healing.
Kevin
Yeah, that's why I did it at this time, so we could have a couple weeks off to be a little light work and to help out a little bit with the healing. Yes.
Eddie
Isn't that nice of him, though, that, like, he scheduled it around this time because he knew he's gonna have two weeks off and he wouldn't affect his work. For two weeks?
Kevin
Yeah.
Eddie
That's nice. I wouldn't. I would do it in the middle of the year. Be like, yeah, I'm out six weeks. Sorry, dude.
Bobby Bones
But then somebody. Then we'd get somebody to replace you, and they may be better than you.
Eddie
Or you guys are just like, man, we can't do this without Eddie. This is so hard.
Bobby Bones
It's funny you have that attitude, because the mind's exactly the opposite when it comes to that stuff. Okay, well, I hope you have a Merry Christmas.
Kevin
Thank.
Tavita Pritchard
Wait.
Kevin
Oh, you're recording right now?
Eddie
Yeah, man.
Bobby Bones
You're on. We're literally doing the episode.
Kevin
That makes sense.
Bobby Bones
All right.
Eddie
Would you think we're just calling you for fun?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I mean, I got excited talking into microphones.
Kevin
I told you, man, I'm drugged up. This is why.
Eddie
Hey, how was the surgery, though? Was it. Was it, like, easy?
Kevin
Yeah, I mean, I just. I don't remember anything. They put me to sleep, and I woke up, next thing I know, and my wife by my side, and I was all good to go.
Eddie
Are you able to use your hand? Like, it's in a sling, but, like, will you be able to type?
Kevin
No, it's still numb right now. I was doing some stuff this morning. I was typing with just one hand because my fingers are still numb from the stuff that they gave me yesterday. It's numb for, like, 30 hours.
Bobby Bones
Dang. Do you want to. I can show you your present. Do you want to see him?
Eddie
Let me hold the phone.
Bobby Bones
No, I can do it. Okay, so.
Eddie
First off, you need that backpack.
Bobby Bones
First off, I got you the same thing. I got Eddie a flamethrower. You're gonna love it, dude. Well, I saw how much Eddie loved his, and I was like, oh, hey, Kevin. One of those. So Eddie really sold it that it was good. And then I got you a. And I put a bow on it. I got you a Drake May rookie card.
Tavita Pritchard
What?
Bobby Bones
There you go.
Kevin
Oh, that's sweet.
Eddie
That's awesome.
Bobby Bones
There you go. Drake made 2024 rookie, it says in North Carolina.
Kevin
That's fine.
Eddie
There you go.
Bobby Bones
Well, no, that's me.
Eddie
That's awesome, dude. Not fine. That'll do.
Kevin
Awesome.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so I'll. I'll just keep it here. I'll put in my office. You get it when you come back. Okay.
Kevin
All right, sounds good.
Bobby Bones
All right, buddy. Merry Christmas.
Eddie
Merry Christmas, Kevin.
Bobby Bones
Bye. All right, there he is.
Eddie
So he got his present.
Bobby Bones
Got his present up there.
Eddie
Oh. Oh.
Bobby Bones
Get off the phone. He's. All right. There you go. He's drunk.
Coca Cola Advertiser
You get off the phone.
Bobby Bones
Can we call Brandon?
Eddie
Yes.
Bobby Bones
Brandon's was a little different, and I'll tell you why I like that.
Eddie
You got Kevin a flamethrower.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Once I saw yours, I thought, you know who? Because I went and bought that one. I didn't order. I ordered yours. Yours is bigger, though.
Odoo Advertiser
That's awesome.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
If he doesn't answer, he doesn't get the present.
Eddie
Come on, Brandon. There he is.
Bobby Bones
There he is.
Eddie
Brandon, you're on mute.
Bobby Bones
Oh, he's muted. How do you answer on mute?
Eddie
He's that guy on Zoom.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but he answered and he's on mute on a call.
Eddie
Harry, we can't hear you.
Bobby Bones
Harry, we can't hear you.
Eddie
What?
Bobby Bones
I'm watching him. How do you answer?
Eddie
Your volume. Your volume's out, right?
Bobby Bones
Yes, it's all the way up. Can you hear me okay?
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. That's bizarre, huh? All right, he's got 10 seconds or he doesn't get his prize.
Eddie
And you know what happens sometimes is it connects to a Bluetooth. You ever do that word automatically connects, like, to your car.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah.
Eddie
And you're like, why is this not working?
Bobby Bones
I've been on the phone and, like, a valet's taking my car and they're talking, then the person's still talking in the valleys.
Eddie
Like, wait. Yes, exactly.
Bobby Bones
All right, so we'll give them 10 seconds and then we'll just move on.
Eddie
Brandon, it's your gifts. Don't lose it.
Bobby Bones
Eight, seven.
Eddie
Are you calling him or you're waiting for him to call you back?
Bobby Bones
Wait for him to call me back. Should I call him back?
Eddie
Did he do the sign of. I'll call you back?
Bobby Bones
I don't know what he did. Which I. There he is. That's the. That's my gate calling. Oh, there he is. Hey, what was happening? Yeah, it was. It was my laptop. My laptop was just like.
Eddie
Nah.
Kevin
Going to.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to mute it. All right, so.
Eddie
Merry Christmas, Brandon.
Bobby Bones
Merry Christmas, buddy. Hey, so we're doing our Christmas segment on whistles, and I was giving everybody their Christmas gifts, and so I have yours here. And since you're not. You're not here to me to give it to you. I was just going to keep it, but I thought I would just give it to you on Zoom and next time you're here, you can get it. Oh, gotcha, man. Okay, so I. This comes from. I think I insulted Brandon. And so my gift is meeting him at the place where I insulted him.
Eddie
Huh.
Bobby Bones
So I can show you this.
Eddie
An inside story present.
Bobby Bones
Well, I thought about what I was going to get Brandon. What is that?
Eddie
A sack? Santa sack.
Bobby Bones
It's a. It's a bag here. And I thought about doing the same thing I did with you guys, getting something funny. And instead I thought I know I insulted Brandon, so I want to do it. So I knew I. I want to do it better and make him go. I'm sorry. So what I said to Brandon was I questioned him. Do you know how I questioned him?
Eddie
Like, when. What was the setting?
Bobby Bones
It was on this show.
Eddie
On this show. And you questioned him?
Bobby Bones
Brandon, do you know how I questioned you?
Tavita Pritchard
Yeah. Did you question me on being a Cowboys fan?
Bobby Bones
Correct.
Tavita Pritchard
Yes.
Bobby Bones
So what I have.
Eddie
No is a no. What the. Dude? What? What? You've never given.
Bobby Bones
So I have a signed Emmett Smith jersey here. Oh, with the tag still on. Yeah, it's a, like, so I'm sorry about that. It's a 1992 Cowboys jersey. Mitchell and Ness. I had to pull it from the good collection. And so I'd like to apologize for not knowing that you're a Cowboy fan.
Odoo Advertiser
Bobby.
Bobby Bones
Dude, you didn't have to do that.
Tavita Pritchard
Thank you so much.
Bobby Bones
I did.
Eddie
It's crazy.
Bobby Bones
You like that jersey? It's like.
Eddie
That's amazing. That's from, like, 1990. You say 92. 92 and Emmett Smith.
Public Investing Advertiser
No.
Eddie
Dude, that's awesome.
Bobby Bones
I don't know what you're gonna do with it.
Eddie
Hang it up.
Bobby Bones
But mostly I felt bad about that. Oh, dude, I'm hanging that thing up, man. That's so awesome. Thank you. All right, I'll fold it back up. You can get it next time you come up here.
Eddie
Why.
Bobby Bones
Why are you upset?
Eddie
Because that's an awesome jersey, dude. Like, I got dak. You've given me a Dak jersey before. That's awesome. You gave my kids a bunch of Cowboys jersey. But, man, that's. That's. That's a cool one.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to, like, the premiere. That's a cool one. The saved.
Tavita Pritchard
Dude, I.
Bobby Bones
That is, like, the coolest thing ever. Thank you.
Kevin
So I.
Bobby Bones
It makes me feel bad for the gift that I gave you yesterday. No, Brandon gave me, like, no good stuff, you know? He gave me a.
Eddie
What?
Bobby Bones
He gave me a hat. It was stuff. He gave me a. A book that said, there are worse dads than you.
Eddie
Oh, that's good. That's funny. I like that.
Bobby Bones
Did you read the inscription inside? No, I haven't got into the book yet. I didn't know I was supposed to yet. I was mostly gonna wait till. Okay, you're gonna love the inscription. That's all I gotta say. And then imagine imaging and Willie, what is that place called in Austin?
Eddie
What is it? Im.
Bobby Bones
Imene and Willie. It's like a. Like a clothing company. I. I got him Like a hat.
Kevin
And a shirt from there.
Eddie
Oh, cool. Yeah, that's nice. I mean, the EM jersey is way cooler, but yeah, I was gonna say.
Kevin
I could try to get it signed by EMT Smith.
Eddie
He tries, he goes to Dallas.
Bobby Bones
All right, so I'll leave this up here. We can get it after the holiday. Dude, thank you.
Kevin
So I'm. I'm hanging that thing up as soon.
Bobby Bones
As I get it.
Kevin
Thank you so much.
Eddie
They have these cool like frame things that are like little boxes that. They're not too expensive. Dude, they're awesome. Like that's what I do with my kids jerseys.
Bobby Bones
Oh, I gotta get, I gotta get it right now. All right, see you, buddy.
Tavita Pritchard
Hey, thank you so much, man.
Bobby Bones
There he is talking to us on his laptop. All right, bye, y'.
Tavita Pritchard
All.
Bobby Bones
I can't hang up on anybody.
Eddie
Yeah, hang up on.
Tavita Pritchard
Dude.
Eddie
So you're telling me that if he wouldn't have answered in eight seconds, that would have been mine?
Bobby Bones
No, I would have kept.
Tavita Pritchard
I have like.
Eddie
Oh, you would have kept it.
Tavita Pritchard
I have like.
Bobby Bones
No, yeah, you would have. I have like five really, really great ones. This was one of them.
Eddie
That's amazing.
Bobby Bones
But then I ca. I said he wasn't a Cowboys fan. I was like, man, that sucks.
Eddie
You got that on a break.
Bobby Bones
I bought this one.
Eddie
Oh, you did?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, cuz a. Yeah, I bought this one for a reason. But then I don't. What do I need it for?
Eddie
I talked to a. A buddy of mine who does a lot of those breaks or whatever. He said, man, this year everyone's just getting stuff. Cuz he's. I. I been playing for too long that he's got a bunch of crap. He's like, I just got to get rid of it. And he's not selling it really. Like people getting Wayne tries just random stuff.
Coca Cola Advertiser
What a matchup we got, y'.
Tavita Pritchard
All.
Coca Cola Advertiser

All right, let's go over now to our interview with new Stanford head football coach Davita Pritchard. He comes over from the Commanders where he spent the last few seasons as their quarterbacks coach. But really he's a Stanford guy. He's a former Stanford quarterback. Big upset against USC once when they were like 40 point underdogs. It was a massive game. But we talk about that. He's a Stanford guy through and through.
Public Investing Advertiser
He.
Bobby Bones
Here he is. I really liked him. Coach. Tavita Pritchard. Coach, are you underwater right now? I gotta imagine the first couple of weeks is just all relationships and saying hi. Right.
Tavita Pritchard
There's a lot of relationships, a lot of kind of reinserting back into the matrix. But it has been fun because this is home and I'm, it's, it's been exciting to get back here.
Bobby Bones
So I've got to spend a little time with Coach Reich. And he came on the show and talked with him and he was like, I got one year. He was very. He said, I'm here because, Andrew, I got one year and I'm out. And that's such an interesting situation for you to come in because one, nobody left for a bigger job, which wouldn't have happened there. And then two, nobody got fired. So it's kind of a positive place to come. What has it been like reinserting? And has he helped at all?
Tavita Pritchard
Yeah, you're right. I mean, it was and is very unique in the way that that transition occurred. And I have not interfaced with him a ton leading up to this situation. Obviously, I always knew who he was, you know, through Andrew. And then Zach Hurts always spoke very highly of him. But in our increasing interactions as time has gone on, man, my respect for him has grown really, really quickly. And not just who he is as a coach, but as a man, as a leader. And I can't say enough about what he did in this unique situation. Obviously taking over, you know, at a time in the calendar that was not typical. And to come in here like the day before spring ball and kind of be able to do what he did and instill a culture and start building for the future, even though he knew that it was kind of a one year or one season shepherding during this time. I can't say enough about the groundwork that was laid with the staff, with the players here and the culture going forward. So I would say Frank Reich is a Stanford man forever and always.
Bobby Bones
This is going to be such a corny question, but since you're a Stanford guy, to come and have the office, was it a moment where you're like, this is now my office?
Tavita Pritchard
I would say it was less of that and more trying to make sure I didn't walk in the other offices that I've. That I've occupied over my time here, because there's probably around five or six. So it was, it was more of that than it was the awe of being in this office. It was more like, oh, almost walked into that office because muscle memory told me to do so.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. When we moved buildings, I drove to the wrong building a couple times because I had done it so many times. He said, you're just sitting down. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you mentioned culture and that. I think that word's thrown around a lot. But how, how do you start changing culture? What are the first steps when you're going to do something that's so macro? Obviously it takes micro to make macro. What do you start doing?
Tavita Pritchard
Yeah, that's, that's, it's, it's, it is the question. It is the question. As you come in here and you talk about installing a culture, the first thing is the people. Right. Because culture is just a shared set of values between people in a group and an organization and a team. And so I think the first thing is getting the right people here. You know, I'm working hard right now to identify and hire a staff and put a staff together. And so I think it's about bringing people here who are a fit. And obviously, fit can be interpreted in a lot of different ways, but they first have to understand what our vision is going forward and kind of who we're going to be, what we're going to be about. And then they have to be a fit for Stanford. You know, and this is a unique place. It's a special place. It's a place that I know and I love very, very, very much. And so they have to understand, not that they have to have even a history with Stanford, but there are certain things that they have to understand are unique to this place. And that there are things that we're not just going to put up with, but we're actually going to lean into. You know, when you talk about the way that you have to recruit here, some people can see that as a negative. I see it as a superpower. Right. And something that allows us to identify the people who belong here and then bring them here and develop them. So that's the first thing is bringing the people here, and then it's really deciding and defining what the culture is. And that's not just a me thing. Right. This whole thing is not about me. It's about myself and Andrew and. And Sam Fisher and the other folks in this building really defining, hey, what is going to set us apart and what's going to make us the best program we can be. And then once that's done, it's reinforcing that every day. And I think that's the biggest thing, is you get a culture off the ground. It's making it very clear what it is, and then it's reinforcing it. It's repeating it so that that thing can be seen and reinforcing, it's catching people doing it. Right? Right. I mean, we're going to talk about competition. That's going to be core to our culture. Right. I want to be able to catch people. Right. So it's walking out to the practice field when I can and go watching, you know, workouts and saying. And saying, hey, you guys do a great job competing. You know, so it's just reinforcing those things. It's finding those and then it's being honest and telling the truth when it's. When we're falling short of that mark.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Tavita Pritchard
Whether it's myself or anybody else, like, hey, when you're instilling culture, it's really about making sure that you're upholding those things in a really, really strong manner from day one.
Bobby Bones
So I know Clark Lee, who Coaches, Vanderbilt here, because we live and we've done some stuff together and they have a similar, I won't even say issue, but a similar circumstance to where they have to recruit a different way. And are there guys that you will see, man, I'd really love to have them, but if it's grades or that you can't take because of what Stanford demands out of their student athlete.
Tavita Pritchard
Yeah, you know what I mean? It's, what you find here is there is a filtering process, right. And one that honestly, you know, I mentioned it's a superpower of this place because it's one of those things where I don't look at guys and say, oh man, I can't recruit them. Our recruiting department does. It does a great job of, you know, those, those players usually don't even come across my desk. Right. And I'm saying my desk right now in this role. But even, even going back to when I was here before, right. You really kind of what you, what you don't see, you're not, you're not reacting to, you know, so it's like I know the guys that we can recruit. I know that crop of people that we are looking at that we are evaluating and getting to know. And so it's, it's way more leaning into, man, who, who can be here, right? Who are those folks that we're looking for and identifying. Because when you, when you do cut that down, it allows us to be a lot more specific and efficient and effective. Right. In being able to focus on a smaller group from day one.
Bobby Bones
Are you going to call plays?
Tavita Pritchard
I came in here guns a blazing that I was going to call plays and I'm, I'm now in a space where I want to stay open. I want to stay open. I will be involved in the offense. That's something that we're working through right now and I'm looking forward to putting together this collection of people that's going to come in here both on the offensive side and the defensive side. But I've, I've, I've, I have walked back from that stance a little bit just knowing that like I want to get the best people here and I don't want to limit me, I don't want to limit us. I don't want to limit this program because I, I actually want to get the best and, and best fit people for this place.
Bobby Bones
How do you feel about non conference games?
Tavita Pritchard
I'm still figuring that out, man. I'm still figuring that out. You know, just like, just like being in I mean, you ask non conference, but I'm coming here, you know, to a brand new conference. Then I left and so I'm wrapping my head around that. I'm wrapping my head around non conference games and all the travel with conference and, and so I'm still, I'm seeing. It's fun, it's fun to kind of reinsert here and kind of catch up, so to speak. Right. So I'm both catching up on things that were familiar to me and then I'm catching up in a sense that like, oh man, this has changed since I've been gone, you know, so, you know, when it comes to non conference, I'm excited to play the best around the country. You know, I mean, I think that's something that, you know, when I was here before, you know, I have great memories. Obviously Notre Dame is a, is a non conference that we play every year. That has always been a really good matchup for us and, and one that, you know, has a great history. And I remember playing in that game. I remember coaching in that game. We had some great battles and I look forward to that one. And then I think we've done a good job of scheduling, you know, schools that, you know, are challenging to us and that we have a, that we have great games against. So I'm looking forward to kind of working with Andrew and getting caught up on a lot of that stuff.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I wouldn't schedule a single hard team non conference. We were seeing it. I'd play all high schools, coach. I would just go play high schools in California. I wouldn't travel because you guys are traveling all across the freaking country and you're playing nine conference games. Next year you're having to go to Virginia Tech.
Tavita Pritchard
What high school did you go to?
Bobby Bones
Well, I didn't go one of California. I'm from Arkansas. But I'm just saying all I would play are high schools in California. So you don't, you don't lose.
Tavita Pritchard
I hear you. That ski academy. Yeah. Maybe we can get some high schools on the.
Bobby Bones
How do you know Pulaski Academy?
Tavita Pritchard
Man, I've been recruiting for a long time. I can name the most random high schools from the most random places.
Bobby Bones
Never has a coach mentioned PA in the middle of an interview like that.
Tavita Pritchard
I've been there there, man. I've been there. Come on.
Bobby Bones
Hey, why did you go to Stanford?
Tavita Pritchard
You know what? I, I grew up in a house. My dad played at Washington State University. My parents met there. My uncle was Jack Thompson, the throwing Samoan who played at Washington State. So I grew up thinking, I'm going to Washington State. Like, this is. This is in the cards. I'm going to. I'm going to work hard to be a college football player and go play in the NFL, but I'm going to go to Washington State early in the recruiting process. Right back in the old PAC 10, you're basically, if you're a West coast quarterback, you had to be the top 10, so you can be a PAC 10 quarterback. They took a quarterback early in that cycle, and it kind of rocked my world. I was kind of like, wait, I was supposed to go to Washington State, you know, And I'm not joking. The only thing I knew about Stanford when that happened was that they played Washington State. I was like, I think I know their colors. I couldn't even tell you where it was. But that's the extent of what I knew about Stanford. Obviously, this was a different time, right before social media. So, like, you know, that. That really didn't reach me for whatever reason about, like, what Stanford is about, what the brand was. And it just so happened we had a connection to the staff. And I got invited to come to a camp here to try to earn a scholarship. And I remember walking on campus for the first time and I actually saw the pool complex. And I saw from a distance, which doesn't excuse this story I'm about to tell, but I looked at it, I was like, wow, the football stadium. That's incredible. And as we get closer, they're like, no, coach, that's the. That's the pool. And I was like, oh, that's the pool. It just spoke to just like, how incred the. This. This campuses and the buildings and all that. But what I also didn't know was, like, the campus and the buildings and the setting are not even the half of it, right? Because you get to know the people and you get to know what they're about, how. How committed they are and how collaborative they are. And they're about excellence and they're about cohesion. And it just like, the more I learned about this place, I was like, man, this is. These are my kind of people. And luckily, I. I did well enough in that camp. I earned a scholarship. I committed shortly after I got into school. Shortly after that, I'll never forget that phone call. I was at our high school stadium watching my sister play soccer, and we got the call. And I remember that feeling. I remember the reaction of getting accepted into school. It's just like everything has led to, you know, being here and being A part of this community. And it's made me as a person like I am a product of this place in so many ways. And I'm so grateful for my experience here now I'm excited to be able to give back and serve these players and, and, and, and hope to create an equally great experience for them.
Bobby Bones
The continuity that is there with. And you mentioned Andrew luck. Did that help keep players from jumping in the portal that he could already establish relationships?
Tavita Pritchard
For sure. And Andrew's special. Andrew's special. Like, like this, this is, this is not only was it the fact that his role was already filled and in place, but it's the fact that it's him, right? He has an extreme passion for this place. He has an extreme passion period. And he's a dude. He's a dude. Like, people understand that, right? And they know what he's about. And Andrew could be doing anything he wants. Right. But again, he and I are similar in that, like we are here in service of this place and the experience of our student athletes. And that's, and that's something that's real. And I know our students, I know our football players feel that. Right. I know our community feels that, how invested he is in this place. And so that's a big part of the reason that that guys are still here is they knew that with his support, right. And the, and, and the, and his vision for this, that we were going to, we were going to be going in a direction and they wanted to be a part of it.
Bobby Bones
Got three final questions, and this one may be dumb because you could have 10 times, but I'm gonna ask you.
Tavita Pritchard
Because I got a dumb question.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, it is because if you like. No, no, John Elway. That's a dumb question. But have you got to spend any time with John Elway?
Tavita Pritchard
You know what? I've met John over the years. I've gotten to spend a little bit of time with him, but not, it was not, it's not been extensive.
Bobby Bones
When you were playing quarterback there, would you watch tape back of how dominant John Elway was?
Tavita Pritchard
Oh, yeah, for sure. I mean, I think it's a core tenet of being a quarterback that you just, you watch guys, you love to watch guys and kind of see parts of their game that maybe you see in yourself or aspirationally, right? Like, oh man, I'd love to be able to do it like that. So you really study. And he was certainly one. You study because he's one of the all time greats.
Bobby Bones
All right, two questions left. Whenever you Take a job. And this is your old school, so you probably did have some gear. Is there like a box that's like, this is going to cover you for the first two weeks. And it's just all. It's the hats, it's the shirts, it's everything you're going to need.
Tavita Pritchard
Absolutely. I had, I had. You know, what's funny is I have a lot of friends in the profession and they, A lot of them have rules because, you know, they'll have made a number of moves and going to different teams and franchises. And so a lot of guys who have been in this coaching world for a long time, they say, okay, hey, I'm going to keep two things from my last job and, and so I can get rid of the rest, give it away, and then, and then, you know, I'm gonna get new gear at my new place. Well, obviously my journey's been a little bit different, right? I mean, I played it. I started at Stanford as in 2005 as a freshman football player, and I was there throughout, continuously until 2022. So I accrued and acquired a lot of gear over my time. Now, I will also say this, with 10 siblings and nieces and nephews and a mom and dad and uncles, like, my, my, My closet was raided early and often, so that was spread out, but I still had a lot of gear. And luckily with it, you know, me being alum, even when I moved on from this place originally, I was like, well, I'm not going to keep two things. Like, I still got to represent the squad and be able to, especially on the east coast, you know, kind of spread the gospel of Stanford. So luckily I held onto a lot of stuff. I believe my family did, too, so we weren't too far behind.
Bobby Bones
Last question, and I want to talk about Jayden Daniels for a second, but also how that correlates with what you're doing now. Obviously you coach Jayden Daniels, one rookie of the year, but what we would hear and what we'd read is all of like, the tech. He would use the glasses to see the field. Are you implementing that at Stanford at all?
Tavita Pritchard
Yeah, we're still looking at, like, the technology that we're going to use. Obviously, we're still. We're, we're. We're not at that point yet where we're looking at some of those things. But, you know, they, they do a great job. Like the, like the group that we worked with, the VR company that we worked with, with Jaden, it is, it's a great tool. But here's what I would say Working with Jaden Daniels, working with Marcus Mariota, Sam Hartman, Josh Johnson. This year, like Jaden works, man. So like whether it's the, whether it's the VR goggles or walkthroughs or watching traditional film like he, Jaden and market, like those guys make those tools, you know what I'm saying? Like, like those tools are only as useful as the user and the person who's utilizing them. So it's really what's. What I do want to separate is like that is a powerful tool and one that's really, really cool. And if you believe in it and you use it, it can be super helpful and really take your game to the next level. But so much of it is about the people. And like getting to work with Jaden has, has really affected my career. Getting to work with Marcus has really affected my career. Because those guys, the way that they approach the game, the passion they have for learning, the passion they have for, for leadership and teamwork. Like, I can't say enough about my time in that room with those guys.
Bobby Bones
Coach, I really appreciate the time. I know you're underwater. We, you know, we got a couple, couple guys we've been talking with that got new jobs and so they all say the same thing, like they have 500 text messages and so to cut out 15, 20 minutes. I really appreciate it. Hope you have a great off season and good luck next season. Coach.
Tavita Pritchard
Appreciate it, Bobby. Have a good one, man.
Eddie
See you, coach.
