Bobby Bones
This is a podcast called 25 whistles. Talking football. And they all wear a whistle yet Stupid.
Joey Logano
But why did you expect it to?
Bobby Bones
Hey, thank you guys for being here at Joey Logano. Coming up. Joey Logano is like the greatest guy. Yeah, it's like the greatest guy.
Eddie
He's so nice.
Bobby Bones
So, yeah, if you're a NASCAR guy, which I have said many times, I don't know anything about nascar. I like Joey Logano, though. He's been on the show a couple times. He's a champ, too, so we love champs. All right, Eddie, hit us.
Eddie
Here we go.
Bobby Bones
All right, there's the whistle. Boom. A couple things. One as we and not really yet, about who we think should be in the College football Playoff, you know, because there's obviously the old discrepancy of who should be that last team in, meaning it's not the 12th ranked team because there's going to be a conference champion if SMU and Clemson play. If Clemson wins, does SMU fall all the way out? Basically. Does Bama get in? Right. That's what everybody's like. They've got three losses. And I said on the last episode, if you have three losses, not that you don't deserve to be in, but shut. You can't fight to be in.
Mike D
Right.
Bobby Bones
If you somehow get luckily put in by the magic touch of the wand of the cfp, great. But stop crying if you have three losses. That's the no cry zone. Lane Kiffin stopped crying when Lane Kiffin was like, how can Ole Miss not get in? And then Brett Bman was like, well, using your logic, we should be in over you. Hilarious. Now, I want to be very selfish and say that I want Alabama to get in because two reasons. One, I said I was rooting for him earlier this year because they are not the Alabama of old. And when everybody's, like, taking a dump on a certain person or team, I'm like, let's go. Rise from the dump. And so I was rooting for Bama for that reason. And it's weird for Bama to be an underdog and do I think they can win the national championship? I mean, gun to my head, no, they could, but I mean, I'd probably put money on if I had to to win. Ohio State still probably has the most talented. It wouldn't shock me to see them win. Yeah, Oregon's awesome. But I did bet 20 $500 on Alabama to win the national championship, and they're not even in yet.
Kevin
Yeah, they're not even a lock.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Eddie
Which is a great bet.
Bobby Bones
Which is why I. Which is why I bet it. Because I'm like, if there's any manipulating that is to be done, it will be manipulated in the favor of Alabama or they don't need it, or Ohio State or Georgia or there are these brand teams that will get the manipulation needed because they bring eyeballs to TV sets.
Kevin
Yep.
Bobby Bones
And we have to always remember this is a business. So I bet $2,500. I was going to read you the bet on Alabama to win the national championship. If they don't, I don't get my money back if they don't make the tournament. Right, Right.
Eddie
It's gone.
Bobby Bones
But that was also an appeal for me, is, you know what? I'll take the risk. The risks are if Clemson beats smu, Clemson's automatically in because they are the conference champion of the acc. SMU hasn't beat anybody and so does SMU stay in their best wins Pittsburgh. But because they are number two in the conference, do they stay in with, you know, few losses?
Eddie
I have not seen one of their games. Have you only?
Bobby Bones
Yes, two. But only because the quarter he's played Arkansas, their head coach, so rooting for him. Okay, so here's my bet, guys. If I win this dude, that'd be amazing. But here's the thing. I'm not even trying to win it.
Eddie
If you win it, you are the luckiest man ever.
Bobby Bones
But that's not lucky to take it.
Eddie
It is if Alabama wins the whole thing right now.
Bobby Bones
But that's loser mentality. Just because somebody wins something to go, that's lucky. Because if it were just lucky, you could grab anybody and it would happen.
Eddie
You just said gun to your head, you wouldn't do it.
Bobby Bones
Right. And I'm also going to bail out if they win a game or two. I'm gonna. I'm gonna hedge this out.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
But again, I am using in poker terms pot odds to go. Will they actually get in? I think probably they'll find out. They'll sliver their way in. Do I think they can win a first round game? Because they will play a first round game on the road at insert school here. Yes, And I think they can win a game or possibly two. I don't think that's lucky. By taking what I've watched all year and what I've seen over the past 20 years with these big foundation schools and go, this is where I'm gonna put my money. I don't think that's lucky. I think that's using. And again, I may lose. I mean, lucky would be the double doink going in. That's lucky because I had nothing to do with that. And the doink. Doink. Doink.
Kevin
Yeah. Lucky would be the.
Bobby Bones
This would be. This is a risk and there's some luck involved. But I think that lucky would be just scrolling, putting my finger on one and going like, that's your winner, man.
Eddie
If you win this, do you think you can be that news article that says better bet this this week and has won and that better is Bobby Bones? Because that'd be cool.
Bobby Bones
You seen those articles? Yeah, I'm not going to win enough though. 2500 bucks makes 42,500.
Kevin
If it was to bet like $5, make 42,000.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, that would be cool. Like a 72 team parlay, 55 cents left.
Eddie
That would be my article.
Kevin
Yeah, that be Eddie.
Bobby Bones
So I have bet Alabama to win the national championship based on the fact that if there can be manipulation, done, Alabama will get in because the committee knows that this is a business. They want eyeballs on TV sets. And ratings matter because ratings sell commercials. Commercial is the revenue for the television networks to pay all the money to the conferences. Now if you can't, they won't and Alabama stays out. What I need is SMU to beat Clemson. That's what I need. Need. The other thing that can happen is Clemson beats SMU and they kick SMU out, which I don't know will happen because I think now they feel the pressure. But if they can, they'll. They will put Alabama in. You tell me Alabama and Notre Dame, is it going to be a massively rated game week one if Alabama goes in as the 12 and Notre Dame's the five? Yeah, that will be a ratings bonanza. And that's why it's not lucky.
Eddie
And that is.
Bobby Bones
But yeah, I'd be pretty lucky.
Eddie
Legit question. Does it hurt teams more to play in a championship game?
Bobby Bones
So that's the debate. Now that's a great question because. And you had Lane Kiffin that said a couple weeks ago, why would anybody want to play in the championship game if you can lose and then get kicked out? So the general theory Is. No, I'm going to say general, but this has never happened before. Right. We're in uncharted waters because it was four teams. The last few years. Before that, it was just two, so. And conference championship games actually led to the four. You can lose a conference championship game now and stay in because the loser of Penn State, Oregon, they're in regardless. The loser of Georgia, Texas, they're in regardless.
Reed
Really?
Eddie
Georgia would be in regardless.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah, no doubt.
Eddie
Three losses.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, no doubt. Georgia's in. You think they wouldn't be?
Eddie
Well, no, I think they would, but I mean, you look at it, Alabama's got three losses. They don't have another game.
Bobby Bones
But Alabama didn't make it to the SC championship game. So the general consensus says you will not lose your place if you lose the championship game because that would mean there is a negative to playing in the championship game. The only reason, the only that I could see that wouldn't be the case is if you play in one of these conferences that are borderline. And the Clemson.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Because SMU hasn't played anybody. But it's not their fault. They haven't played anybody. The schedule makers are. They played who they could play. Yeah. But I hope SMU wins just so I can get in the mix on the BAM a bit.
Kevin
But if they lose, they're out.
Bobby Bones
I think I'm torn. I think they. I think I, I totally respect that, that you think that. Because I think they should get rid of the conference championship games.
Kevin
Yeah. First of all, I agree.
Bobby Bones
If they're going to do 12, they should just rate the people and they shouldn't give the buys of the conference champions because this is what this mess is creating. The top four teams should just get.
Kevin
The four buys and they may change it very soon.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, they're going to learn a lot this year. Yeah.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
But also, let me say this. It's awesome. The College Football Playoff is awesome. It's the greatest addition to one of the main sports in 25, 30 years. Oh, yeah.
Eddie
I can't.
Kevin
But do you still like the championship games this weekend? Yeah, because, I mean, I have interest, obviously, but I'm like, well, what if Oregon and Penn State are kind of like, ah, whatever. If we win this, cool. If we don't, no big deal.
Bobby Bones
I don't think.
Kevin
I can't help but to think that.
Bobby Bones
I just don't think that would happen. Just in general, as a competitor and as a coach with bonuses and as players getting. Being on tape for NFL, like football's different than other Sports.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I think they want to be the freaking Big Ten champion. That's awesome.
Kevin
I mean, Oregon still has an undefeated.
Bobby Bones
And you get a buy and you're.
Eddie
Playing for a buy and you get a big trophy.
Kevin
That's true.
Bobby Bones
And the trophy, like Eddie said.
Eddie
Yeah, man. That's. You put it in your room. In your.
Kevin
I didn't even think about the trophy.
Bobby Bones
I think playing for the buy, though, is a big deal. Big enough deal.
Kevin
That's true.
Bobby Bones
But I think it's a great question. And the only one I could see falling out would be if SMU loses. If Clemson loses, they're out anyway. Clemson got lucky that Syracuse and. Yeah. But I think the committee may want to prove that playing in a championship game shouldn't be a bad thing, even if you lose. And that would be the only thing. If they're like, look, do we think SMU is one of the best 18 teams, let's say they lose. Do we think SMEs one of the best? No. But are we going to set the precedent that you can lose the championship game and then not play?
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
So that'll be the battle. I'd like to be in on that call now, guys. I'm over Bama here.
Eddie
They're like, who's talking?
Kevin
Who is this guy?
Bobby Bones
Who put that guy. Charlie's Angels. All right, Angels.
Eddie
Does UNLV still have a chance?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, they win. They're in.
Eddie
That's pretty amazing.
Kevin
That's crazy.
Bobby Bones
That's awesome.
Eddie
Yes.
Bobby Bones
And nobody's. I'm watching. And they're like, people are irritated because Boise State gets a buy. And I can understand. They need to fix it. Boise State should not get a buy. They're not one of the four best teams. They are going to win the Mountain west if they win the championship game, but there's no way Boise State should get a buy. They're not good enough. They skated. They skirted and skated all year. They've won every.
Eddie
The schedule's just different.
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Eddie
It's just a very different schedule, but.
Bobby Bones
And everyone's just assuming the Boise State is in and they're going to win. No one's even talking about UNLV having shot.
Kevin
And they played earlier this year. I think it was a shootout, wasn't it?
Bobby Bones
I've seen too many games. I don't know.
Eddie
Oh, gosh. I know. Hundreds. Hundreds of games.
Bobby Bones
I've watched more games this year than in my whole life. I do have a clip, though, because the Boise UNLV game and I laughed out loud at this. But then I also wanted. Okay, first, so here is the UNLV quarterback. I don't know what. And by the way, this is him talking in a press conference. And remember, they're on their second quarterback because UNW quarterback left mid year because he's like, I need to get paid.
Mike D
Right, Right.
Bobby Bones
Dumb, dumb. Hodge Williams doing a press conference earlier this week and he was asked what he expects of the atmosphere when they play at Boise State. This is a Friday, so today. Tonight's this game for the Mountain west championship. Go ahead. I don't know what to expect as far as the crowd at Boise. I've never been there. I don't even know where it is on the map. But what I do know is communication is always a key to victory, you know? So what I laughed at is everybody getting mad being like, oh, that's bulletin board material. They don't know where Boise is on it, bro. I've been to Boise. I know where Idaho is because a little stick up. Yeah. I don't know where most cities are inside of a state on a map.
Eddie
I couldn't point to it.
Bobby Bones
People are like, they're going to pin that on the bulletin board and come out pissed because they don't know where Boise is on a map. Okay, well get pissed at all of America.
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
Because none of us know where. If you said Boston, I know it's on the water and I can tell you what the Massachusetts state looks like. But even a major. I don't know that I could like take a pin and go for sure.
Eddie
Like just the other day, I didn't know that Denver or Colorado was connected to Kansas like I thought Colorado was by California. Way over there.
Bobby Bones
That's bold to born with it. Yeah, I laughed out loud. Everyone getting. Everyone just wants to be heard by being hurt and they were all hurt. Oh, he just gave. He can't identify him on a map. That's disrespect. Well, I guess I'm disrespectful too, because I've been there. It's awesome, by the way. And I can. Yeah, it's great. It's. It's better than Hawaii and well, that can be true. It is true. Except I didn't go on winter. The summer. Better than Hawaii. Been to both. Hey, Been to both. How about that?
Eddie
Yes, you have.
Bobby Bones
Can identify my map where the city is in the state.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So anyway. And we've had both coaches on UNLV and Boise.
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
I am not going to lie though. I am rooting for UNLV I'm rooting.
Eddie
For Boise UNLV all the way.
Kevin
So I. When I coached high school football, three players are now playing at Boise.
Bobby Bones
You should say assistant coached. Yes. Yeah. But no, that's the thing, though.
Kevin
Okay. Assistant. When I was an assistant coach.
Bobby Bones
Were you, Paige?
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Volunteer? Yeah. Yeah.
Eddie
Did you just say coach at that point?
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Why?
Eddie
You just say, like, when I coached.
Bobby Bones
Well, you have to set it up once. Ever. When I co. You can't just go. Because he's never said this before. You can't just go like, yeah, when I was coaching high school football, then people think you're like, running head coach, and it's like, why hasn't he added more analysis?
Kevin
When I was the athletic director, I did this. So three of our players got recruited by Boise and all three of them are there right now playing.
Bobby Bones
Oh, that's a good reason.
Kevin
Two offensive linemen.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, that's a good reason.
Eddie
That's pretty cool.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I'm friends with the boy with the UNLB head coach and we text semi frequently and I love them.
Eddie
And they're punt returner, man.
Kevin
Go Broncos.
Eddie
So what. What's up?
Kevin
What's up? Hey, I like.
Bobby Bones
What's the spread on that one?
Eddie
See, let's take a look at it.
Bobby Bones
I figured one of you here. Boise minus four. That's it. Wow. Yeah, that's it. And they're at Boise. Or is it not Mountain west championship game somewhere else?
Kevin
Yeah, it's at Boise. Yep.
Bobby Bones
Because a lot of the major games are in a. Yeah.
Kevin
Neutral site.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
Like Indy for the Big Ten and stuff like that. But yeah. On the blue field.
Bobby Bones
Poor Tulane. They had a shot. They had a shot to squeak up and possibly be in the conversation, and they lost. And now, I mean, they're still playing in the. The ac, which is where sm you came from.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Last year.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Tulane minus five at Army. Okay. We're going to join Logano in just a second. I think I'm just going to build the parliament myself, guys. Oh, do it.
Eddie
Do it.
Bobby Bones
I know. It's just a disaster when you guys get involved. No offense.
Eddie
There aren't a lot of games to choose from.
Bobby Bones
There's six.
Eddie
Yeah. You're going to pick three.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I don't want to. I don't want to be on the app.
Eddie
You just tell them, don't put me up there, people.
Bobby Bones
Listeners get. Listen, we're big, big draftkings guys, all of us. It's embarrassing whenever you don't. When they put you up there and you're like, first we're like, we want to be on the app. Let get them up there. And then we, after like our seventh parlay loss in a row, we're like, get us off the app.
Eddie
Yeah, right.
Bobby Bones
Here's the thing, though. Parlays, not something that I would say is my strong suit. I would not choose to come on and go trust this parlay now because this is a big part of what DraftKings does. We're happy to give a parlay. That's great. Mostly I'm like, one game at a time, grinding up. Win two, lose one. That's fine. You're still up a bit. But I do got a good parlay this week.
Eddie
Okay, let's hear it. Come on.
Bobby Bones
Sometimes I'm too biased, though. Like, as I start to say it out loud, I'm like, I'm too biased.
Eddie
No, Arkansas is not playing.
Bobby Bones
Trust me, I know Texas is.
Eddie
You throw them in there anyway.
Bobby Bones
Texas is minus two and a half. This is the SC championship. Georgia at Texas, but neutral site. Atlanta.
Eddie
Yes, Atlanta.
Bobby Bones
Atlanta. Texas is a favorite. You take Georgia. Just take the Georgia money line.
Kevin
Ooh.
Bobby Bones
That'S it. Georgia Moneyline. Bet that game by itself.
Mike D
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
But inside the parlay. Georgia Moneyline, boom. We got Clemson at SMU. SMU being a 2 1/2 point favorite.
Kevin
I.
Bobby Bones
What's hard for me is I can't give a bet that I don't want to happen because I feel like my root and my head if they. It's like having it playing fantasy and playing against somebody in one league and having somebody in another and you torn and you don't know how to feel. So as much as I feel a certain way about this game, I'm not saying it. I'm not putting it on the parlay because I'm not saying it.
Mike D
Just heavily implied.
Bobby Bones
It doesn't even exist. So do what you want in that one there. Iowa State. Arizona State. Take Arizona State. Moneyline. It's a. Arizona State's two point favorite, but it's so close it doesn't matter. And the two points you're given on the Georgia game, you're basically back to even. So you. Arizona State's winner. Georgia winner at Penn State. Oregon. Game is juicy. It's juicy. Oregon's ripe. And we like Oregon. And yep, another one of my text buddies. Well, I was not near as much as Coach Odom, but Dan Lanning and I have exchanged a few text messages.
Eddie
That's pretty cool.
Bobby Bones
It is pretty cool. Head coach at Oregon, but they're right. And nobody expects this to be. I mean, everyone. It's just like Oregon's already the winner.
Mike D
Yeah, we'll see.
Eddie
Why don't they say, like, Penn State chokes these. They say Penn State just chokes in these, like, games.
Kevin
Mostly against Ohio State.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, mostly. That's Ohio. Yeah.
Kevin
And Michigan.
Bobby Bones
But they're. Yeah. James Franklin can't beat Ohio State or Michigan, basically.
Eddie
Yeah, but.
Kevin
Or Oregon.
Bobby Bones
I know. I'm gonna go. Penn State plus three and a half. There you go. So that's the parlay. You guys want to run it? Run it. Here's my confidence levels, though. Georgia Moneyline confidence level 8 out of 10. Arizona State confidence level 7 out of 10. Penn State plus 3 1/2. 5.5 out of 10. Has to be more than 5. I wouldn't bet it. But 5.5 out of 10, a little better than that game is just like, oh, wow, this is so interesting to see these. This happen. Because one, nobody expected the game to happen.
Mike D
Right.
Bobby Bones
That's fun. Let's see.
Eddie
And that is a late game, too. So that could be like the one you wait for.
Bobby Bones
That's one I cash out on if I've won the first. That's the one I.
Eddie
You put that in the bottom of the parlay.
Bobby Bones
If it gets to this game, cash out. If you want to take the 25 whistles parlay, you can check out DraftKings Sportsbook. New users use the code Bobby Sports whenever you download the app.

Our talk with 2024 NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano. It was Joey's third Cup Series championship in his career, his second in the last three years he's been on the show before. We're pumped to have. And what's great about Joey is that he knows I don't know anything, and I don't act like I know that I know anything. But also, I'm respectful enough. I have real questions that aren't like, do you pee in your suit? I think everybody asked that the first time they ever talked. Like, I have real questions, and I think some of them, he was like, I've never been asked that before.
Kevin
Yeah, he was a little confused at times.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but not in the way of, like, I was making fun. I had literal. Yeah, yeah.
Eddie
So when he says, like, that's a good question, what does that mean?
Bobby Bones
He's never been asked that before. And it's not so stupid that he thinks it's a bit.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
I don't really think he means, like, a great question he wants to get on NASCAR.com and talk about, but I think he means I've never been asked that. And I can see how someone who's not a fan, like a super fan of nascar would think that was a.
Kevin
Thing because he probably gets asked the same 10 questions.
Bobby Bones
Yes. By either the NASCAR faithful, the beat reporters, the. Those questions are always very, what's happening right now, what's happening tomorrow, what you did. And then people have no idea. Or like, do you pee in your suit? Right. What's fastest you ever been? Do you ever get speeding tickets? Yes.
Eddie
Do you drive recklessly on the road?
Bobby Bones
All the stuff we asked the first time we had them on.
Kevin
Yes.
Bobby Bones
All right, so here is Joey Logano. Joey, congratulations again. Like you, you are that dude. It's super cool to see. Do you ever get into a race? Aside from the Cup Series championship, do you ever get into a race or is it every race you feel like you're going to win or some like, if I can just finish because I don't feel good physically. If I can just finish in the top 10. How does that work every race?
Reed
Yeah, it's different in our sport because was a machine you have to deal with as well, and no two cars are created the same. And so there's weekends where you feel like you have the best car and you're like, well, we better, we better go capitalize on this, on this car that we have. And then there's times where like you get down practice, you're like, gosh, my car is like a 20th place car. If I can just, if I can finish the top 10, that would be like a win. It just kind of depends on what you got. But the car is different every week. You try to make the right adjustments to your car to try to make it the best you can, but it's different than other sports because it's just the human element. Right. The basketball is the same every week. The court's really not that much different from week to week, but our racetracks are completely different. When you go from half mile tracks to mile and a half tracks, road courses, everything in between is different every week.
Bobby Bones
I've had periods in my life where I've been like, this is the greatest lunch I've ever had. I actually keep like a chart of my favorite lunch ever, my favorite dinner ever, my favorite snack ever in different places I've had them. Do you know the absolute fastest you've ever been, like the one track and the number that you hit?
Reed
Yeah, I remember it was, gosh, I think it was 2014 or 15. We were qualifying in Michigan and we were qualifying at 220 miles an hour into the corners. We averaged 200 mile an hour, over 200 in the whole lap, just the average lap time. So that felt fast. You kind of get used to the speed, to be honest with you. It's just when something goes wrong, that's when you feel like you're going really fast because it doesn't stop real quick.
Bobby Bones
You know, this is going to be a really dumb question for somebody who's really never been in a race car. Is there a speedometer in there?
Reed
No, no, we're legally not allowed to have one.
Bobby Bones
Why?
Reed
It might be a better thing that I don't have one.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I think I would just want to know then, have you done it so many times that you can pretty much just like raw dog and know how fast you're going?
Reed
I mean, roughly. I mean, what ends up happening is we set our dashes so we have a tachometer, you know, reads the RPMs of the motor. We know what gear ratios are in the car. So when we hit a certain speed, we know it right. When it. When the engine's at a certain RPM and you're in fifth gear, you have an idea that you're going, you know, whatever it is, whatever it is that weekend. So you kind of go off of the tap all the time.
Bobby Bones
Okay, another really dumb guy question. For somebody who just watches on tv, do you have snacks in the car? If for some reason you need a snack real quick?
Reed
I wish I take some water with me because it's hot in there, but I typically don't have a snack. I mean, they're fairly long races, they're three and a half hour races. But there's not really much time. And you got your helmet and think about it, you got all this stuff right in front of your face. And I don't. You can't really get a granola bar in there or anything like that. So I don't. I think some drivers think I don't.
Bobby Bones
It makes sense. I. But again, I do this for five hours or I'll be even on stage if I'm doing comedy. And. But I like. My blood sugar feels a little low. I'll eat an almond or two. But you're saying you have. So if you're. Let's say you have to pull in and you're in the pit. Would you. Will you be like, throw me some almonds? Can you do that? Have you ever done that? If you're like a little low?
Reed
I've never done it.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Reed
I've never Done it. You're. You're. You're typically so, like, you're just. Your adrenaline's pushing you. You know, you don't even realize how tired you are sometimes until you get out of the car. And that's when it, like, it hits you like, oh, my gosh. Right. But most of the time in the car, your adrenaline is, you know, just, like. It's kind of like that runner's high that you get at times, right? You just. You keep trucking along. Your heart rate's, you know, 140 or so throughout the whole race on average, sometimes higher. Sometimes it gets a little bit more comfortable, depending on the track, but you kind of get in that mode where you just keep clicking laps off.
Bobby Bones
I want to talk about teammates for a second, because on the Penske team, Ryan Blaney's on your team. We had Ryan, and he's. We had a great time with Ryan, but our team. Is there a benefit to having a good teammate? And is there within the team, like, hey, we really need to get Joey to this place, or really to get Ryan to this place? Are you helping each other to the point where it's obvious?
Reed
Yes and yes and yes. Some of the answers it is. Teammates in motorsports is probably the most challenging relationships you can have, because on one hand, you need to work together to be successful. Right? If we just compete against each other and say, gosh, all I gotta do is beat my teammate. Well, you may beat him, but you're gonna finish 20th. And is that really doing anything? Like, you have to have the attitude that you'd rather finish second to your teammate then beat him and finish 20th. And that's. That's sometimes hard to do, depending on what's going on. But I'd say, you know, Ryan Blaney's. You're also Austin Cendrick, as well as my other teammate. Both of them are very good. They're young, they're fast. They're, like, so much speed. The good thing about that is they push me, right? They push me out of my comfort zone. We all kind of bring different things to the table, which is nice. I've been doing this for 16 years, so I could bring some experience to the table. They bring speed to the table. I think together, we end up making everybody better, and I think that's what you ultimately want in a teammate, is someone that's going to push you and make the whole organization better. All of Team Penske, I think we got that with our teammates right now.
Bobby Bones
The teammates ever fight, like, out, like, Fist fight. I've never. I don't know I've ever seen teammates fist fight. And would. And would your team be like boys? You do that in, like, an actual team? Because I've been on, you know, even playing high school sports or I have friends that play pro sports. They fight with each other, but they do it behind closed doors. Are there teammates that ever, like, come to blows on the track?
Reed
It depends on the team. I don't see Team Penske handling really anything that way between each other. But I also know that, listen, there's gonna be differences, opinions, right? Like, it's like growing up with your brother, you know, like, you're. He's gonna tick you off every now and again, and the best thing you can do is talk about it, right? You can't just. Like any other relationship, you can't brush it under the rug and expect it to get better. It's just gonna keep getting worse. So you just got to have an open relationship. You got to be able to talk about everything that's going on together. And if. If I may, I tell them all, if I made you mad, tell me I probably have a reason for it, and vice versa, you know? So I'll tell you if I'm upset. I promise you that. So I think that's what the best teammates do. But, yeah, I mean, there's different expectations with your teammate, right? If someone. If it's not your teammate and they're racing the crap out of you, well, you don't get that upset. But if it's your teammate, you're like, hey, bud, like, aren't we kind of on the same side here? You know, there's different rules of engagement that, you know, are spoken about before the races sometimes.
Bobby Bones
Forgive my ignorance on this question. Would. Do you. Could you design a racetrack?
Eddie
Because I'm.
Bobby Bones
Golfers. You know, they get big and famous. This is a Tiger woods track. I mean, I feel like you've won enough now. They should be asking you to design a racetrack. Can you design a racetrack? Is that a thing?
Reed
I've never been asked. I mean, I guess I. I could help design a track. I think a couple of drivers have before. I know Rusty Wallace did a lot with Iowa Speedway, and some road racers did some stuff with road courses. But, you know, really, I think what the difference is, is building a racetrack is, I would assume, a lot more expensive than a golf course, just because, I mean, you think of all the site work that has to be done, all the buildings, all the grandstands, the suites, all that like, you just build new racetracks all the time. Like, that's really expensive. So we end up going back to the same tracks very often. And there's, there's racetracks all across the world. Right. And a lot of them we haven't seen. Right. We're going to Mexico City next year. So there's a racetrack that's been there for a long time, but none of us have ever seen it. So I don't know if we need to be, you know, spending a ton of money on building new racetracks and designing them, but just going to a lot of great ones that are there and bringing our races to the fans that are there.
Bobby Bones
I know your bodies go through a lot over the course of a race. Now again, this is such a dumb guy question, but if, let's say you hurt your ankle, let's say you step off a stair or like you hurt your, your Achilles tendon and it actually hurts to push the pedal, could they switch it to. You could do it with the other. I don't know. How would they do that if your foot hurts so bad? And has that ever kept you out of a race?
Reed
Man, you got some interesting questions today. I knock on wood. Something knock on something. I've never had something that kept me out of the race car like a foot. I even think growing up I broke my arm a couple of times.
Bobby Bones
But.
Reed
Yeah, no, I mean, some guys have driven with a, with some banged up situations and it doesn't look comfortable.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Reed
But I've never seen anyone drive with the other foot to overcome that.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You know, I mean, I don't know.
Reed
Why you couldn't though.
Bobby Bones
That's right. Or could you? Is there, are there rules against putting some of the stuff on the hands? Because, you know, you see those old, old person Cadillacs and they're like flipping gears with their fingers.
Reed
Right, right.
Bobby Bones
Exactly.
Reed
I have no idea.
Bobby Bones
Exactly. I see. I'm bringing all the questions. These are legitimate things I've always wanted to ask somebody who's like the greatest. Okay. I saw you with Shaq recently, DJing at the club. How. What happened? How did that happen?
Reed
Well, so they had a. Which I didn't know DJ Diesel is what they call him. He was at the after party for a championship party. And he's huge, by the way. He's as big as I thought he would be. Freaking tall as huge. Super nice. I didn't know he's a dj.
Bobby Bones
Hey, wait to hear about Paris Hilton. That one's next. Yeah, she's same.
Reed
Oh, no.
Bobby Bones
Okay. So I got two final questions here. And by the way, these are legitimate questions I've been holding onto to ask you because again, to me, like, you're that guy. So it's been super cool to ask you these dumb guy questions that I've had. Um, so you've won three Cup Series championships in your mind, like, what is, is it like a Tom Brady thing? Do you want to win more than anybody ever? Do you want to have so many that, that people can't catch you? Right. Like, you know, Brady's got seven. It's going to be hardly it people. Unless it's my homes, nobody's going to catch Brady. Your thoughts on like, what's the ceiling with you? What's the goal?
Reed
To be honest with you, I don't set long term goals. I set this year's goal. And I mean, this is a simple way of thinking about life. But what is the goal this year is how I look at it. And the goal every year is the same, is to go win the championship. And if that takes six wins to do it, if it takes two wins to do it, whatever it is, doesn't matter if I'm looking. I don't ever look far enough ahead and say, gosh, I want to have seven championships, like Richard Petty and Dale Earhart, Jimmy Johnson, like, yeah, that would be great. You know, I got eight would be even better. Sure. But I got to get four first, you know, before, before I even look that far. So maybe it's just a simple way of thinking about it, but it's just the way I do it.
Bobby Bones
Final two questions. I'm going to do the serious one because I saw that your foundation gave quarter million dollars to hurricane relief to you. You know, I've noticed a priority in you giving back and finding reasons to give back. Like, why is that important to you?
Reed
Well, I said this in my speech and it's. There's a lot of truth behind this. You think about sports in general, they're pretty pointless, right? You're either putting a ball in a basket, you're carrying a football across the field. And for us, we're driving in circles to end up in the same place after 500 miles. When you think about all that, it's pretty goofy and dumb. But if you think about the platform that God's given us to impact others, it becomes very impactful, right? Like it's a very, very big thing. And so that's the why. So for us, the Joey Ligano foundation is the why. We care a lot about foster kids. We do a lot with foster families. You brought up the hurricane Helene. You know, we're here in North Carolina. Obviously, it's about an hour from here in the mountains, where there's a lot of families that got impacted more than the news tells you. It's bad. And so we've been able to make some trips up there and visit some families, get a little bit better idea of what's going on. I mean, people's houses got washed away, their cars got washed away, their families got washed away. It's. It's so sad. So, you know, there's a few foster care communities up there that we've worked with in the past that were impacted in a very large way. A lot of people don't have flood insurance up there either. So we've been doing a lot of things with giving cars away. We've already given a car away. We got four more cars that we're getting ready to give away here in a couple weeks before Christmas. You know, we've got some. Some money going towards rebuilding these foster care communities that got washed out. So there's been some great help from our race fans, from our partners. It's not just me doing it, but the fact that we all come together and try to impact an area that just people that need help. That's really the why.
Bobby Bones
My final question. And again, this is a bit trivial, but it's something that I was given grief for. I was doing a TV show on Nat Geo and I had an earpiece, and mostly for safety reasons, because I'd be up on, like, these harnesses or I'd be. And so I had an earpiece and my director would talk to me, but I demanded. On a Saturday. I say demanded. I'm not a demanding guy. But I did say on Saturdays in my contract that I needed to have the updates for the Arkansas football games fed through my ear. So as I'm doing this, I had them tell me the scores of the games as it was happening, if we happened to be recording while doing the show. So I asked this from a place of. I was shamed for having that put in. If you're ever in a race and you're wondering what the score is of a game, do you ever ask for them to update you on scores of something else while you're doing your thing?
Reed
I tell you what, man, I don't have the capacity for it. I have a hard time to have the capacity to watch sports these days. Like, I. I love watching sports, but I got three kids and my oldest one's six. So it's like Paw Patrol on rewind right now. And. And we're moving into the Christmas movies on the Grinch and Christmas Chronicles. So honestly, I don't ever get the TV remote. And if anyone has kids and listening to this, you know, at about 9:00, it's game over, I'm done. I'm going to sleep. So I wish I could watch sports because I love it, but gosh, I'm a couple of years away from it right now.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. So. Okay. I still feel shame. I still feel shame. And thanks, Joy, for allowing me to keep, keep holding on to that shame and my heart for that. Hey, Joy, we're rooting for you, dude. We root for you. Congratulations again. It's so cool to like, like, you're, you're, you're all, you're nice and you know, we've had some people in. It doesn't matter, they're not that nice. You like, you're awesome. You're awesome to us. We appreciate the time. You're so generous with spending time with us. Not all you guys are awesome. It's like in general, the world, but you are one of them. So congratulations.
Reed
Well, gee, thanks. I appreciate the compliments and love the show. Glad to be on it.
Bobby Bones
Thanks, Joey. Hopefully we'll see you soon, man.
Reed
More times than do you come on whenever you want.
Bobby Bones
You literally, you could come on anytime. You can come when you lose because I have all these questions. Joey, we love you, buddy. Have a good day.
Reed
All right, man, thanks. We'll see you.
Bobby Bones
For the most part, we don't talk baseball. Very regional. Love baseball, but there are certain stories. I'm like, God damn, we gotta talk about this. So I've. This guy's name is Kent Sports on Tick Tock and I'm gonna play you. This is from my phone. It's about whenever they find these prospects and they really don't know how old they are and they say they're a certain age and turns out they're older. Dude, this story is crazy. Here you go. This is one of the wildest baseball.
Joey Logano
Scandals you'll ever see.
Bobby Bones
Address had agreed to sign a 14 year old shortstop out of the Dominican Republic for $4 million. Only to find out he's actually 19, not 14. How funny is that? Kids like you, my armpit hairs just started growing and they're like, dang, you rock for a 14 year old. He's 19, I am 12. That's funny.
Mike D
I remember that Danny Almonte story from a while back.
Bobby Bones
Well, Seriously.
Reed
Exactly.
Bobby Bones
They're just dominating.
Kevin
Dominated.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. So that was one. And the other thing was another quick baseball story. And I'll get off baseball, but they were talking about the Golden Bat.
Kevin
Oh.
Mike D
Oh, yeah.
Bobby Bones
What the heck is that? Okay, here's what I want to say before we tell the story and people go, that's stupid. I enjoy the fact that they're tossing new ideas for a sport that people are losing interest in like crazy, because baseball has gone way downhill with the interest. Nobody cares. I say nobody. Some do, but it's very regional. You got to have a team, but it's just not like football or even basketball.
Mike D
Right. The salary cap, I feel like, is the number one thing.
Bobby Bones
So what they. The commissioner comes on, goes, hey, think about flirting. Did you know, Eddie?
Eddie
No, I don't know about this thing.
Bobby Bones
I flirt with this rule. Like, once a game, you get a golden at bat, where you get to use it one time, but anybody in your lineup gets to come about right then. Whoa. Wow. Which is hilarious. That would be, like, cool. Bases loaded. Ohtani's uppie. Oh, wow. They just struck him out. Wow. Who's up? Ohtani's turn. He's walking back up to the plate for a second time.
Kevin
He just took bp.
Bobby Bones
So here's what I think, as ridiculous as it sounds, and baseball is a purest sport, and it's also why it has not grown, because they've just attached themselves to the. I think that will be fun to do, like the first 10 games of the season, Not. Not the whole year, not the playoffs.
Kevin
Not the playoffs, but do it the.
Bobby Bones
First 10 games of the season.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And that's it. And it's fun. It's novel. It is what it is. And if it turns out to be something that people really enjoy and there's an element to it you haven't even expected or understood, then great. But I don't hate it because it's something new and it's so innovative that people think it's stupid. But that's usually where good ideas come from. So what if you homer, Then you just turn around and just. You get. Anytime you want, go back at bat again. Yes. You get to use it once a game. The golden at bat. It could be the second inning, could be the ninth, and if you. It doesn't roll over. So if you don't use it. And it's also like, you don't. It wouldn't be used all the time by every team, because, again, a lot of teams would just be waiting for the opportunity to need to use it. And if you're winning, there's really no need.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Because what if. Then you start to lose and you need it later? So I don't think it would be the fact that people will be using the golden bat all the time, every game. I think they should do the first 10 games of the season. Try it out.
Mike D
Try it out.
Bobby Bones
Because we got the pitch clock going. It's been a great addition to the game. We got the DH in both leagues. I think that's been great. Both were met with. I don't think this is going to work, but by purists and people who are just like casuals or want to be more than a casual, like, oh, cool. Yeah, it's been great. Do the gold in the bat.
Mike D
More offense.
Bobby Bones
So, yeah, listen, going to. I love gold in the bat. Eddie loves golden showers. You know, there's both. There's a thing for both of them.
Eddie
You said you wouldn't tell anyone.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Reed
All right.
Bobby Bones
Boom, boom, boom. We're feeling pretty good. The Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow shelled out 3 million bucks for one of those Batmobile replicas. I was watching a tick tock of him telling Jamar Chase about this. Did you guys see it?
Kevin
No, I saw the. The Batmobile, but not the Tick tock.
Reed
Really?
Bobby Bones
Oh, I saw him mic'd up. You see it? Yeah, I saw that one. It's like, miked up, and it's like, I got bought a Batmobile. And he's like.
Kevin
It's all casual.
Bobby Bones
He's like, the real one. He goes, you have it? And he goes, I don't have it yet. I paid for it, though, so I'll get it in 20, 25.
Eddie
What's that guy? What's that guy like? Like Joe Burrow. Like, what's he like? I feel like we don't really know exactly what he's like.
Bobby Bones
I feel like we know exactly what he's like, and we wouldn't want to be friends with him, but we'd want to be the quarterback of our team.
Kevin
Oh, I don't want to be friends with them.
Bobby Bones
I don't think you would. I think he's such an. Such a. An a type. A personality that demands all the attention all the time.
Eddie
Interesting, that.
Bobby Bones
But you have to be that to be that, right? Like, you don't. You're not him in that position, that successful without being that. It's like dating an artist, and you're like, well, they're kind of weird. Well, no, that's what made them the great artist. They Are to get to this point or even knowing it. Like, all the artists are crazy.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You got to have a screw loose to even be in the. In that world in business now, hopefully, it's the right screw. Because you're a good artist. You can still be somewhat of a normal human, but it's not a normal human job. You're not thinking like a normal human. Creatives are not normal. And so I think you would want to have him as your quarterback. This is just me, but I think he would be, like, demanding so much attention. Alpha dog, a dude my way all the time. That you'd be like, oh, not. Not for my friend, though, like, probably cool to have him as a casual. Like, he does some cool stuff. You can go with him, be part.
Kevin
Of the group riding his Batmobile. Yes, that would be cool.
Bobby Bones
I think that would be the case with Joe Burrow. Huh.
Kevin
Because him and Jamar hang out. I think they do well.
Bobby Bones
Hangout's interesting because they play college ball together, so they have a good relationship. But once you get to be an adult and, like, it's like, with. And, I don't know, he's not married. I don't know if Jamar is married.
Kevin
I don't think either of them are.
Bobby Bones
But even, like, with the radio show, with the Bobby Bone show, like, we used to all. Before I moved to Nashville, we used to all hang out all the time, but it's before we had kids. It's before we had families. I don't have kids, but it's before there were all these things going on. And so you would hang out when you were young. So I would guess they probably do hang out.
Kevin
Like, maybe just go to each other's house, watch a game, play video games, whatever.
Bobby Bones
Will they forever know but then realize? Doesn't mean they're not as close. Mm. But, like, other things kind of hop in.
Kevin
But they're legit friends, right off the field.
Bobby Bones
I would think so. I was watching. I'm talking about the Batmobile.
Kevin
That's true. If he tells them about the Batmobile, they're. They're good friends.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Like, they were just so nonchalant. They were just talking. Yeah. I bought a Batmobile. Yeah. Yeah. It's pretty cool. It's pretty cool. Eddie wanted to argue that army should be in the college football playoff. You can't. Army's not good.
Eddie
Ten one, man. How do you argue that? And they may, like, beat Tulane, and then they may beat Navy, and next thing you know, they're, like, 12, and.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but you Just did it. Next thing you know, 12 and 1.
Eddie
And you're not going to put them in the playoffs. That'd be crazy.
Bobby Bones
Okay. I.
Eddie
And I love America.
Bobby Bones
Well, that's the part you have to remove from it because you have to go. I love the troops. Oh, my God. But army has a football team. It's not the same conversation.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
And you're going. Next thing you know, after two more wins.
Eddie
Next thing you know, I.
Bobby Bones
They'll probably beat Navy. Yeah, I think they'll be Navy. They may. You know, the two lane. Who knows?
Eddie
They may beat both of them, dude.
Bobby Bones
But still.
Eddie
And if they do be both of them, do you just have to put them in?
Bobby Bones
No, they won't get. They're like, See, that's what I'm saying.
Eddie
They need. They need a petition.
Bobby Bones
They needed to go undefeated.
Kevin
Yeah. And the one loss was Notre Dame. Right.
Bobby Bones
And they got smacked and they got run pretty. Oh, yeah.
Eddie
That was bad.
Bobby Bones
That was recent. The last couple.
Kevin
Yeah, about a month or so ago.
Eddie
That was at Yankee Stadium.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Mike D
Yeah, yeah.
Eddie
That's really cool, man.
Bobby Bones
Cool. Thanks. Yeah.
Eddie
Yeah. I thought that'd be cool to see a football game.
Bobby Bones
We all looked up, like, is. And there's more.
Kevin
Is there more?
Bobby Bones
Is there more?
Eddie
Yeah, that's it.
Bobby Bones
So something we just learned. I did not know is that Casey, New York. Casey, who talks about his love for. By the way, dude, what's. It's a joke. Now the Jets.
Mike D
Oh, yeah.
Eddie
Casey's like, what are you talking about?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, it's like. And Aaron Rodgers, like, I still want to play for the Jets.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I don't think, like, I just built. Built. We just redid our house in New York. I mean, so anyway.
Mike D
No, I mean, I don't think so. I think we've. We've all seen enough, like, I root.
Bobby Bones
For you now that they just stay terrible. Yeah, you can have.
Mike D
That's what I'm better Draft capital.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. That's. Anyway, I feel sorry for Casey on that because I'm an Arkansas fan. We have this, you know, kinship of we just expect things to go wrong. Always have.
Mike D
And they do. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
They always have and they always will. They will say it.
Mike D
Right.
Bobby Bones
But Casey was like, yeah, I play guitar. None of us had any idea Casey played guitar.
Eddie
No. Because we were singing a song, like, just for fun. He started doing the bass line. I'm like, well, you know, the bass line, too.
Mike D
I was moving up the fretboard. The imaginary fretboard.
Bobby Bones
This song was now thinking back out, and I don't know all the words to it, but I was like, just as on a vacation far away. And he starts doing that. And Eddie's like, what? Oh, you know, something about music goes. I play guitar. And I was like, wait, what? And he goes, yeah, for like, how long?
Mike D
20 years.
Bobby Bones
And so I stopped the conversation there because this is, like, 20 minutes ago before we turn the mics back on and we have a guitar.
Eddie
Come on.
Reed
Oh.
Bobby Bones
And Casey was like, okay. He was just gonna play. We hand to him. Yep. Do you sing, too?
Mike D
Not really well, but I can try and hum.
Eddie
What is this? Kind of. Did you move to Nashville to play guitar?
Bobby Bones
Great question.
Mike D
Well, I came here for audio engineering and stuff like that and always played. And I figured being here in Nashville.
Kevin
It'S read number two reed.
Bobby Bones
Starting to get jealous. So what is, like, your. What? Like, what's your favorite kind of music? Well, I like. He talks like he plays. I'm glad you guys asked. Little something I wrote on a Beach in 1982.
Mike D
Now, I mean, I know you do that Mount Rushmore thing, so if on my Mount Rushmore would be the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, John Mayer, and maybe, like, Stevie Wonder.
Bobby Bones
That's a strong four.
Mike D
That'd be my four.
Bobby Bones
So, again, this is unfair. And I don't know really what you play, but, like, when you say, like, Stevie Wonder, I think of, like, the superstitious riff. That's. Yeah, he plays. Dude, he didn't know I was going to ask him that.
Eddie
No, he's a real player.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You know the Bog Bone True theme song?
Mike D
I don't know that.
Reed
Wake up, wake up in the morning.
Bobby Bones
You ever played shows here in town?
Mike D
I play with my wife. My wife's actually a singer. What?
Reed
What the.
Bobby Bones
He went to, like, the House of Blues not too long ago.
Mike D
I played the House of Blues in San Diego.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Mike D
What, man?
Bobby Bones
Who are you?
Mike D
I know I am one of a kind and what.
Bobby Bones
And so I don't even know what to ask him because, well, the House.
Eddie
Of Blues is interesting. So your wife played there, and then you just played with her?
Mike D
I play guitar for her.
Bobby Bones
Do you know who Marcus King is?
Mike D
Of course I know Marcus King.
Bobby Bones
He's like a God, right? He's awesome.
Mike D
He's the new guy. He's the new guy in town.
Bobby Bones
He was just. We just did a Bobby cast with him. He was awesome.
Mike D
I was putting it together for you.
Bobby Bones
I don't know. Just give us a little something, man.
Mike D
I don't know.
Bobby Bones
I know that's the hardest thing to ask somebody. We'll be quiet, though.
Mike D
It's a little out of tune.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, we did tune it for sure. You want to play name that tune, see if we can name one.
Eddie
Ooh, that'd be cool. That'd be cool.
Bobby Bones
Cause that way you can just play something commercial. This is a classic rock. This is like 70s, hold on.
Eddie
Hold a lot of love.
Mike D
It sounds like it, but it's more contemporary.
Eddie
Oh, it is more contemporary.
Mike D
More contemporary than that.
Bobby Bones
Tastes like Almond Brothers or something, but it's more contemporary. Okay, how about this?
Reed
Went to the bathroom late this morning and I didn't know what that was.
Bobby Bones
I looked down at it and I thought it was ugly. It was a squirrel with some St. Paul Nuts. Nuts. Come on. What do you got? What is that?
Eddie
Is that Aerosmith?
Mike D
Who do you think I was but John Mayer.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah, that would have been too deep. That's too deep for them.
Eddie
I wouldn't have gotten that.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, okay. More John Mayer. Dang. He's going mayor. Look at Casey. Who knew? Oh, yeah. Step one. Where'd you start playing? Where did you start playing guitar?
Mike D
Where?
Bobby Bones
Like when? Why? Who?
Mike D
So I vote. My dad was a huge classic rock fan. Huge professional air guitar player. So anytime we went out somewhere, he would always put Led Zeppelin up like full blast. And we would do like the Led Zeppelin, like the Need Black Dog. Yeah. I need a pick. But here.
Bobby Bones
Hey, a real player didn't need a picnic. Real player just uses their fingers and guts it out. He can do it. Yeah, dude can play.
Eddie
Yeah, you can play. He's legit. Dang.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. Dang. Wow. Casey, I don't know if we did our musician rankings. Oh, just on this show.
Eddie
Give Kevin the goldfish.
Bobby Bones
It's like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I wanted to put. You would put Kevin. I wouldn't put Kevin or me on the list.
Eddie
What do you mean?
Bobby Bones
Because we're not real musicians.
Eddie
What'd you play?
Bobby Bones
I've had to learn bare minimum to play it to be funny. So can I? Yes. Not that guitar. I'm left handed. But Eddie can obviously play. Reed sings and plays.
Eddie
These guys are good though, man. Reed's really good. And now I think Casey's even better.
Bobby Bones
Maybe at playing, but Reed probably. Oh, he's definitely a better guitar player. Reed doesn't claim to be a great guitar player. Reed claims to play guitar because he's a singer. Yeah.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So don't be insulting to read. No, I'm not.
Eddie
I'm just not naming what he's not. He's hurt.
Bobby Bones
Dang. Okay. Well, let's take a break.
Eddie
That's pretty cool.
Bobby Bones
Hey, place to break. Casey.
Mike D
We're gonna go to bank. It's gonna be great. It gonna break. It's gonna be great.
Bobby Bones
Oh, now Reed hops in with the harmony. It's like I'm in. Don't forget me again. It's gonna be great. All right, hold up. We'll be back.
Mike D
Freaking break.
Bobby Bones

Bobby Bones
Josh Allen's ex claimed she was hacked. So what was funny was, so Josh Allen announces, hey, we're engaged. Him and Hailee Seinfeld. Yeah, go to them over there.
Mike D
Bye week or something.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And as you know, he's on his knee and there's a big thing. And so then there was a like a response, Instagram response. And it was like, luckily, I think his ex girlfriend, luckily, my boyfriend owns a team and doesn't play for one. Don't have to be with another brain dead CTE athlete. Dang. Yeah, yeah.
Eddie
And she's saying that that was hacked.
Bobby Bones
That was an exchange. Yeah.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Like if you're gonna hack someone's account, you probably try to sell all their friends, like something. You don't use it to just like take a shot at your ass.
Kevin
Very specific.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So.
Eddie
But I would probably say the same thing too. That's weird. I got hacked.
Bobby Bones
Well, that's what you yell. But it's like if someone were gonna hack you, they'd probably use it for more than just making a comment that you probably actually felt for sure. Allen's ex, Brittany Williams, in an exchange, a follower, Ash Williams. Haven't found the next pro athlete yet. And she responded, no, she posted, she posed. Luckily, my boyfriend owns a team that doesn't. You know, also who's a New boyfriend. Boyfriend owns a team.
Kevin
Brittany Williams.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, because I saw that. And if it's not like an. Like if my wife got a fight with somebody, I was like, well, my husband owns a team. And I'm like, we own part of a pickleball team. Actually, like the same thing. Yeah. I didn't know what she was even talking about. So if you see, let me know.
Kevin
I'm looking.
Bobby Bones
Actually, I don't even care that much. So if you keep looking, that's.
Eddie
That's whatever. Boyfriend doesn't own a team. Maybe she didn't get hacked then.
Bobby Bones
No, that's. If you hack somebody, you want to use that account for something fun and good or monetarily.
Eddie
Sure.
Bobby Bones
Advantageous. Highest paid football coaches. Top five.
Eddie
College.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, yeah, College. Guess them. Top five.
Eddie
I'm gonna go Ryan Day.
Bobby Bones
Ryan Day at number, number five with 10 million. Makes 10 million a year.
Mike D
How about Dan Lanning?
Bobby Bones
Dan Lanning did not make the list.
Kevin
Dabo.
Bobby Bones
Dabo comes in at number two, 11.1.
Eddie
Sark.
Bobby Bones
Sark at three. 10.6.
Kevin
Kirby.
Eddie
Good one.
Bobby Bones
Kirby smart number one, 13.2 million. You're forgetting. So you're only missing now. Dion makes 5.9 million. He's way down.
Eddie
Lincoln Riley.
Bobby Bones
Lincoln Riley is at number four.
Kevin
Nice.
Bobby Bones
So the top five. Kirby Smart. 13 million. Dabo. 11. Sarkeesian, 10.6. Riley, 10 million. Ryan Day, 10 million. Who's overpaid of those five?
Kevin
Lincoln. Riley.
Mike D
Riley.
Eddie
That'd be my guess.
Bobby Bones
That's tough. Do you see where they were saying Lincoln Riley, UCF wants to talk to Lincoln Riley about the head coaching job. What? And then he's like, no, USC's home. But the fact that that would even come out.
Mike D
It's bad. Yeah. Wow.
Kevin
Wow.
Bobby Bones
You know, because our boy left UCF to go be the offensive coordinator at fsu.
Kevin
Yeah, I did see that.
Bobby Bones
So which Chip Kelly? Yeah, yeah. Miles on left. Chip Kelly kind of made it cool to do that. Because it doesn't mean you suck. It means you don't want to deal with all the BS of being a coach now in the portal. Because there have been coaches like Saban or even a basketball like Virginia's head coach, where they're like, I. I can't deal with this environment.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And so to me, it wasn't Chip Kelly, which was the UCLA program that had. It was gonna have to dig forever to be back even. Or it wasn't like Gus going, I suck because he has a winning record at ucf. It was him going, I don't like having to do all the stuff now that college football head coaches have to do. Like I want to coach ball.
Mike D
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
And so that's what's happening.
Kevin
Yep.
Bobby Bones
Mike Norvell, Florida State number six.
Eddie
He would be over.
Bobby Bones
Well, I say that but that's where Gus is going. No. Yeah. Norville went Memphis to Florida State, crushed. Almost made the championship last year tournament and Jordan Travis got hurt, didn't make it this year. They even. Did they even have a ball like they showed up in the game, nobody brought the ball and they're like, ah, yeah, it's bad. It was bad. I think won two games, right?
Kevin
Two games.
Mike D
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
And he, he blew out his whole staff just about offensive core, defensive coordinator. But yeah, he gets another year for sure because he really had done great things there. But I think if he had a five or six win season this year he'd get another year. And if he did pretty good, he'd get to stay again. But if he has a mid year next year he's out.
Kevin
I mean it's. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Even a mid year he's out next year.
Kevin
They were bad.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Eddie
What's that A M guy doing? What's his name? The one that got paid a lot of money. Jimbo.
Bobby Bones
What do you mean? We know what you're doing. Doing nothing. He's sitting, collecting check.
Eddie
That's cool. That's really cool.
Bobby Bones
Sitting, collecting checks. NFL review real quick. So there are a lot of buys.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Aren't there like five or six buys this week?
Eddie
Yeah, the Ravens are on a buy.
Mike D
Yeah. I got Lamar on a buy.
Eddie
Commander's on a buy.
Bobby Bones
When? What sucks for fantasy is this is the last week for people to get into the playoffs and it's a pretty heavily bought week.
Eddie
And if you look at most waiver wires, there aren't a lot of quarterbacks left.
Kevin
No, no.
Bobby Bones
Jets and Dolphins. The jets are in Miami Dolphins are minus six. Can the Dolphins still make the playoffs? That law they needed to win that game. Yeah. Yeah.
Mike D
So I think it's low mathematically possible but not possible. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Falcons and Vikings. Well, what's fun? Well, first of all, Kirk Cousins struggle like he's on that bus. He's on the struggle bus. Lots of picks. Something's wrong with him. He's not able to throw the ball.
Mike D
Yeah. Everyone's asking for panics now. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And I think that the reason they're not going to go to Pinnix, at least not now, is they've known Kirk's been hurt. They're not not saying what it Is. But you can tell something. He's. He can put nothing on the ball. And you're seeing that he's not throwing deep. Even the outs that he's throwing, there's nothing on them. They would have gone to Pinnix probably if he had been so hurt that it was affecting the game so much that Pinnocks would be a better option.
Mike D
Yeah. That Achilles, though. I don't know, man.
Reed
But.
Kevin
And they play at Minnesota this week. Gotta keep Kirk in.
Bobby Bones
That's exactly why.
Eddie
Yeah. He's going home.
Mike D
Kirk Cousins revenge going back in.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Vikings. Five and a half point favorite. Vikings, man. How about that? You told me the beginning of the year.
Eddie
We thought they were awesome. We thought they'd win the Super Bowl.
Bobby Bones
No, no, no, no.
Eddie
The Vikings after like week four.
Kevin
No, that was the Saints.
Bobby Bones
No, you're thinking of the Saints too. The Vikings, we just thought they would suck. We thought McCarthy would be the quarterback. This is going to be a bad year. They got a good Kevin O'Connell. Their coach is going to develop a good young quarterback. They're going to win a few games would be bad. It had been. It's like the total flip of Florida State.
Mike D
Yeah, right.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. But now the Vikings are really good and Sam Darnold's going to make a lot of money. And you know who the backup is in Minnesota now? Daniel Jones. That's right. Did he sign with him many times?
Kevin
Yeah, I did not even see that.
Bobby Bones
And he'll probably end up being good because he's going to have actually like a good system to work under. That's exactly what Sam Darnold did in San Francisco.
Mike D
Right.
Bobby Bones
Is what.
Eddie
Oh, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Daniel Jones is doing in Minnesota.
Mike D
And coach.
Bobby Bones
And it's the same tree.
Mike D
And Daniel Jones beat them in the playoffs a couple of years ago. So OConnell's probably like, you know, teach us, you know, how.
Joey Logano
How did you beat us?
Bobby Bones
And O'Connell. And O'Connell's from the Shanahan family, so good for him. Panthers at Eagles. Eagles. Big favorite Bryce Young, though. Shout out to my boy, Bryce Young. Like maybe not one in a mall, but he looks good.
Eddie
You stood behind him.
Bobby Bones
Never left. I never wavered. When he stood next to Daniel Jones, though, in that overtime game, it was like a young kid and an adult man. He's 90 and Daniel Jones is a big dude. Browns at Steelers. Steelers, six and a half point favorite. Steelers are good. How about rust on for 400 yards last week.
Mike D
I mean, comeback player of the year.
Bobby Bones
Crazy hat.
Mike D
Even though I don't Know what the award is really?
Bobby Bones
Because you can't be injured. It's not an injury award.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Which they've now said it's not.
Kevin
I was listening to the other day though. I think he's fifth or six because he wasn't injured, though. Like the injury guys take precedence.
Bobby Bones
I thought you couldn't beat, but the.
Mike D
Guy had a heart attack last year and didn't win it either. Joe Flacco won it.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Mike D
It's crazy.
Bobby Bones
I thought the rule was they were trying to say if you're injured and come back, that doesn't matter. It's if you sucked and are better, that matters. You may look that up. Cause I know there was big, a big dispute about that and I didn't think it was an interesting.
Mike D
No one knows how to vote for it. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. So Bucks and Raiders. Bucks showing that. Who cares about the game anyway? Seahawks, the Cardinals. Again, who cares about the game anyway? Unless you have fantasy people in it. Right.
Mike D
That's. That's it.
Bobby Bones
Like, what is even the most appealing game? Chargers at Chiefs.
Mike D
Yeah. I mean, if the Chargers could somehow win, it would make things interesting for the seating.
Bobby Bones
I mean, Falcons and Vikings. Most interesting because of Kirk Cousins playing.
Mike D
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Against the Vikings. Again, it is not very good week for like exciting games. What do you see, Kevin?
Kevin
So it looks like it's. If you missed time previous in the previous season, whether it was illness, physical injury or other circumstances, then you're eligible.
Bobby Bones
What was the rule then? Because again, as soon as they changed the rule this season. Yeah.
Kevin
Because of Joe Flacco from last year.
Eddie
Which is crazy that you. Yeah. Demar Hamlin didn't win that.
Mike D
That's.
Eddie
That's pretty crazy.
Bobby Bones
But I don't think he should have won it.
Eddie
Why? He was dead.
Bobby Bones
He came back from death. He didn't come back from being. He didn't come back from being a good player the year before to being a great player the next year. But he was fine.
Eddie
The fact that he even stepped.
Bobby Bones
But that's like a life field. Again, CNN award. That's not a sports award.
Mike D
Yeah, I got it.
Bobby Bones
Because you can be just a special teams player and almost die. And you play the next year and you do good, you don't get the award for comeback player of the year.
Eddie
What about TUA this year?
Kevin
That's like a mid season comeback.
Mike D
Like.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. I don't know. I don't even care.
Reed
I'll be honest with you.
Eddie
You tried to though.
Bobby Bones
I was like, do I have, do I want to fight and have an Opinion. And I don't. And I don't. But I would just say because you almost died does not mean your comeback player means your life. You come back. Life. Life. Yeah, it's a life thing.
Eddie
To me, that's like an undefeated team. Like, hey, man, you almost died. Here's your award. No argument.
Bobby Bones
And you should get one of those. But, like, comeback players should be like, you used to be good, and then you kind of got hurt or you had a bad year, but then you.
Eddie
Now you're good again, which is Russell Wilson.
Kevin
Joe Burrow is a favorite right now.
Bobby Bones
Because he used to be good, then he got injured.
Kevin
But his wrist. Yeah, he got injured. Yeah, exactly.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so there's still an injury component, but I feel like if you just were fine and then you almost die and you come back, that's not enough. And if you don't come back and be dominant.
Kevin
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Because it's not like Demar Hamlin. He's good. He's good, but he's not.
Kevin
He didn't even really start last year. He's starting this year.
Mike D
He's actually better this year.
Eddie
I think they were scared to play him. Like, you're sure sure you want to do this?
Bobby Bones
Hey, man, reconsider, huh?
Kevin
That award's not worth it, dude.
Bobby Bones
Okay, one final thing, and then I'll wrap up the episode. Thanks again to Joy Logano for coming on. Eddie claims he made a 50 yard field goal.
Eddie
Real talk.
Mike D
Awesome.
Bobby Bones
That is a real talk with you so much. Yeah. We've seen you kicking. You do. You are a decent kicker. Yeah, but you didn't make a 50 yard.
Eddie
You're. Dude, you're exactly right. I've never made a 50 yard field goal before. But after Thanksgiving, I took my kids to a little field, a middle school field, and we're all just kicking field goals for fun. And I. And I made a 30, and I was like, let's push it back to 40. Went 40, and then I made the 50. I think the win was just right.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so hold on. So where did you kick it from?
Eddie
From the. The 50 yard. I. From the 50 yard one. I kicked it from the 40.
Bobby Bones
Okay, that is.
Eddie
Yeah, that's 50.
Bobby Bones
So you. The ball was on the 50 yard.
Eddie
It was on the 40 yard line.
Bobby Bones
And you gave the 10 yards to.
Eddie
Yeah, yeah, Enzo. Dude, it's crazy. I'll even record my kids telling you.
Bobby Bones
They'll be like, yeah, no, no, no. If you're gonna record something, you need to record you making it. Hey, I'm gonna record Kevin telling you I made a 70 yard field goal, then you'll all believe it.
Eddie
Well, here's the twist. There weren't any lines on the field, so we kind of had to.
Bobby Bones
Oh, my God. That's not a twist. That's. That's a whole new set of parameters on what you've made and what you didn't.
Eddie
You know how when you were, like, in elementary school, you do the big steps? One, two. We did that.
Bobby Bones
Or it's how you'd like time the 40. Once you got older, you're like, I don't know, let's just kind of measure it.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Then you had a four. That's 28 yards.
Eddie
To my kids, though, I was like a superhero.
Bobby Bones
You know what? And if that's the case, we'll let it live. Well, I'm going to fight you on it. Good job, dude.
Eddie
Good for you, man.
Bobby Bones
Good job. Good job. Because you were honest about it, we'll accept it.
Eddie
All right.
Bobby Bones
That's funny. We had to measure it off.
Eddie
No, my kids measured it, not me. With my long legs.
Kevin
Little tiny steps.
Bobby Bones
All right, that's it. Thank you, guys. Mike, is there anything I'm forgetting I need to do?
Reed
You're good. Okay.
Bobby Bones
Georgia's gonna be Texas, guys.
Eddie
You said it.
Bobby Bones
Said it. Don't even need the points. You don't even need the points.
Mike D
Sorry.
Bobby Bones
They'll offer them. Oh, by the way, Texas did look good. I didn't give you your. Here are your few flowers, Mike. Texas look good against a mediocre Texas A and M team. But they did go into. But they did go into a extremely, like, rabid Kyle Field. It was crazy in there. Crazy.
Reed
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Like on. I've only ever seen a few atmospheres be like that. And it was awesome. The walkout when they were showing the fans and then they showed the A and M come out, it was awe. Like, I had chill bumps. And there's no reason, because I would have been happy if both teams were eliminated. I mean, even when they were down.
Eddie
At the half, they were still crazy.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Yeah. Texas has a great defensive line. Like, unbelievable. I yours. I don't know. He gets a little. To me. Gets a slightly less awesome every time I watch him play.
Kevin
Yeah, they're saying he's good with his ankle, but he still looks slow and limping. I don't know.
Bobby Bones
I do have a. Quinn, you were signed. Copy of college football 25.
Eddie
Really?
Bobby Bones
He's on the COVID Huh?
Eddie
How'd you get that?
Bobby Bones
Worry about me. Don't worry.
Eddie
That's Just random that you got. Very random, like. Yeah, the college football sign.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Don't worry about me, though, you know.
Eddie
Saying, no, I'm not worried. Not worried.
Bobby Bones
That cover the game? It's the game. Yeah, yeah. The game with a disc in it. And it's unopened, sealed. No, I think. I think I opened it to play the game.
Eddie
You're like, I need to get.
Bobby Bones
I think I wanted to see if it was also signed on the disc.
Eddie
Okay, okay.
Bobby Bones
Or they had to peel off the seal to sign it. Because that might have happened, too. They had to peel off the outside seal.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So the game might still be sealed, but even then, sometimes I just get like, I'm 12, and I want to see it and touch it and hold it. Yeah, that's a good win. You guys needed something, so I'd shut up. And you didn't need that. But just for me, like, because you had played nobody. And so now you guys have a mild win. That's good.
Reed
A mild win.
Bobby Bones
A mild win, but in a really hard place to play. So a pretty good win. That's a pretty good win. So I was happy for you. I hate Texas, but I was happy for you and only you. And that's it. Nobody else. Because everybody else, like, Texas can screw off.

The Bobby Bones Show – Episode 25W Summary
Release Date: December 6, 2024
Title: Bobby's Lays Down a CFP BIG Bet + NASCAR Champ Joey Logano + New York Casey Drops a Bombshell on the Show
Host: Bobby Bones
Network: Premiere Networks
In this episode of "The Bobby Bones Show," host Bobby Bones delves into the intricacies of the College Football Playoff (CFP), shares his bold betting strategies, interviews NASCAR champion Joey Logano, and engages in lighthearted banter with his co-hosts. The episode seamlessly blends serious sports analysis with entertaining discussions, making it both insightful and enjoyable for listeners.
Bobby kicks off the main discussion by revealing his substantial bet on Alabama to win the national championship, despite the team's three losses. He navigates the complexities of the CFP selection process, expressing skepticism about the inclusion of teams with multiple defeats.
Bobby argues that the CFP committee might favor high-profile teams like Alabama or Ohio State to maximize TV ratings and commercial revenue, even if it means overlooking deserving teams with fewer losses.
He emphasizes the business aspect of college football, suggesting that the committee's decisions are influenced by potential viewership and profitability rather than purely athletic merit.
The conversation shifts to the fairness and structure of the CFP, particularly focusing on whether conference champions should retain their CFP spots regardless of their performance in conference championship games.
The hosts discuss the potential outcomes if teams like SMU lose to Clemson, and how that would impact Alabama's chances. There's a consensus that the CFP is still evolving and the current format may require adjustments based on this season's outcomes.
The episode features an engaging interview with Joey Logano, the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series champion. Joey shares insights into his racing strategies, the challenges of different tracks, and the importance of teamwork.
Bobby Bones [24:02]:
"So, Joey, do you ever get into a race where you feel like you're going to win, or is it more about finishing strong?"
Joey Logano [25:34]:
"It's different every week because the racetracks are completely different. From half-mile tracks to mile and a half tracks, road courses—everything changes."
Joey discusses the absence of a speedometer in his car, relying instead on tachometers and gear ratios to gauge speed and performance.
The conversation also touches on the dynamic relationships with teammates like Ryan Blaney, highlighting how they push each other to improve and achieve better results.
The latter part of the episode is filled with lighthearted interactions and fun segments. Bobby interacts with co-hosts Eddie and Kevin, sharing humorous anecdotes and engaging in playful debates.
Eddie [67:27]:
"Real talk."
Bobby Bones [68:00]:
"So where did you kick it from?"
They discuss various offbeat topics, including Eddie's attempt at a 50-yard field goal with his kids and Casey from New York revealing his hidden guitar skills.
The hosts also touch on baseball scandals and propose creative ideas like the "Golden Bat" to revitalize the sport's declining interest.
Bobby Bones [03:16]:
"I've bet $2,500 on Alabama to win the national championship, and they're not even in yet."
Bobby Bones [07:13]:
"I'm using in poker terms pot odds to go. Will they actually get in? I think probably they'll find out. They'll sliver their way in."
Joey Logano [25:34]:
"From half-mile tracks to mile and a half tracks, road courses—everything changes."
Bobby Bones [28:47]:
"Teammates in motorsports are challenging because you need to work together to be successful."
Eddie [67:27]:
"Real talk."
Bobby wraps up the episode by thanking Joey Logano for his time and contributions. He reiterates his appreciation for honest and insightful discussions, whether they're about serious sports topics or amusing anecdotes.
Listeners are encouraged to tune in next week for more sports analysis, interviews, and entertaining conversations.
