Jon Stewart
25 Whistles.
Bobby Bones
Oh, blow it up. All right. We do have RG3 coming up. Or is that called a Mr. G3?
Jon Stewart
That was funny.
Bobby Bones
Well, you never know when you don't know somebody and we actually share an agent. I don't know if he knew that. And I never want to be the guy that's like, we have the same agent.
Jon Stewart
That's legit.
Bobby Bones
That's cool.
Jon Stewart
Like, to share an agent. Well, to have an agent, one is legit.
Bobby Bones
I didn't say that to get this reaction. For the record. My point is, you never know if, like, somebody, you know, because what if, like, he's like. I'm like, hey, we have the same agent and he hates him. Oh, it's like if you're like, oh, we have a mutual friend, Jim. And it's like, I hate Jim. Oh, now it's awkward because, yeah, like, Jim and I. Yeah, Jim smashed out my window and peed in the yard. And we don't talk. So I didn't want to be like, we got the same age in RG3. Mr. G3. But we do.
Jon Stewart
That's very cool.
Bobby Bones
And that was it. So by I. It felt awkward to bring up. He was nice, right? He was warm, way warmer.
Jon Stewart
So nice.
RG3
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I had no expectation of that he wouldn't be nice. But sometimes people are just so pleasant to talk to while also being really good at their job. And that's how I felt with him. But he's coming up.
Jon Stewart
Is it cool when people know your name? I mean, I know he sees probably on the list, like, oh, I'm talking to Bobby Bones. Got it. But when they call you Bobby, isn't that cool? Like that they call you by your first name, and it automatically feels like he knows you.
Bobby Bones
Well, that's why we're saying he's warm, because he did the little things. He had no idea who I was. I'm virtually certain, but I never did.
Jon Stewart
I felt like he did.
Bobby Bones
I Never expect anybody to know who I am, nor do I think they will. We're in what's called like pocket fame, where in a little pocket. Everybody's kind of famous at something. Like if you're just trying, you're kind of famous at something. I never suspect anybody knows anything about me. So I do not think he knew who I was before he went on. And if he did, that's awesome. But I didn't think about that. I just thought he was good at what he did and he felt warm. Because there are little tricks that even if you don't know somebody, you just say somebody's name, they will like you more just generally in life. Like if I just meet Kevin and we're like, hey, we're gonna work together. Hey, let's go to lunch, talk about stuff. And I'm like, yeah, Kevin, Kevin, Kevin. Not weird like that. But if you say the name it feels like an investment. Like they know who you are. Even if it's subconsciously you feel like, oh, I like this person more. They're addressing me specifically. Yeah. Because most people will just say, and I do it all the time. What's up man? Man or nothing at all. And you don't lose anything by it. But there is gain in things like saying someone's name, eye contact, smiling. Now if you do them all a little too much at one time, it's a little weird.
Jon Stewart
It's creepy.
Bobby Bones
Kevin. But all of those, the greatest politicians, actors, the greatest communicators are those that do those little micro communications the best. And I don't know if you knew I was or not. I don't expect him to, but he was great at that. And that could have been why he was so warm. Anyway, we're here. Got a lot of games this weekend. The really cool one is the Buffalo and Baltimore game. Yeah, like that's. There are a couple games that I'm really excited about. There's one I give no craps about at all. But the Baltimore Buffalo, one of those quarterbacks is going to be sad and is going to continue their legacy of the quarterback that can't do it in the playoffs. And both of them deserve at some point to win a Super bowl because they're. Are they the top three Court Mahomes and then those two. Oh yeah, right. I mean burrow you got to put in in the conversation. But I mean they're 2 and 3 however you want to switch them, right?
Jon Stewart
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
So what's. It's like Phil Mickelson to Tiger woods though. Weird time to exist. If you feel Mickelson, any other decade.
Jon Stewart
He would have dominated.
Bobby Bones
You win multiple majors. These guys, any other time, they probably win multiple Super Bowls, and they still might. But we're in a golden age of the quarterback.
Jon Stewart
But even if they would have just gone to another the conference, like if one of those could be in the nfc, they'd have a really good chance at winning the super bowl.
Bobby Bones
Probably. There's a lot of what the environment is, who the coach is, what scheme is, etc. But we're in the golden age of the quarterback. And a lot of times we don't know we are while we're in it. We only know we are when we're out of it. Not even just this specifically, but different eras. Yeah, we got to appreciate now like we're in it, but the league rules have also made that able to be done. Meaning you obviously can't hit the quarterback well any harder than they deserve. You can't, you know, hit them low, you can't hit them high, can't hit them east, can't hit them west, can't hit them north. But that protects their ability to do what we celebrate. And so therefore, this era is kind of presented to us and it's awesome. And we got Mahomes at one. Let's just put Lamar at two for the sake of the argument, because I don't feel like arguing. At three, we'll put Josh Allen or we can go to a 2B. Who gives a crap? At four, we'll put Joe Burrow. Yep, that's four legit guys. Okay, let's go to five. Somebody suggests a five because I think that's where the gap is, right from that A tier to the B plus tier. I think right there is where the next set of quarterbacks goes.
Jon Stewart
Golf. I mean, staff, I'm trying to give some love to the NFC here.
Bobby Bones
I think that golf. The trouble with Goff is he was seen as not as good for a long time. He was traded. He went to Detroit. He was just. And he wasn't a throw in, but no one expected him. That whole thing was, we're going to trade all these picks and okay, golf for Stafford. Even though Golf had been to a Super Bowl. Right. He was never seen as a the guy. So what happens is, and I would say I can compare this into the business world. There are people that were my bosses when I got hired into this company or when my show became a syndicated show 13 years ago that are still my bosses that are still in this company. They still look at me as the guy that I don't know if he'll make it. It's intern syndrome. Like, you hire somebody as an intern, but they end up being a frigging massive executive. The people that are there that saw them as the intern still see them as the intern. And there are people that look at me in the same way and they're like, well, you're still just the dude that. You're like, oh, he's crazy. Let's risk it and see if he'll do it. And that's just natural. Same thing with Jared Goff. Like, we still see him as. I don't know, he's a Ram. He kind of sucks, but he's kind of good. But he's really not going to be great. But he's awesome. Yeah. I mean, he got in the. Yeah, yeah.
Jon Stewart
The thing about these A tier quarterbacks too, is that they're, you know, they can run and they can throw. I feel like Goff is just really a pocket passer. Very good at it, especially with this team. But that's really what's separating these two tiers.
Bobby Bones
Great point too, about that. Golf doesn't have a lot of da, da, da, da, da, da. Because what we love to see are dynamic runs, hurdles, like run, throw back, run through somebody, all that. Like, that's so. So he's also not doing that. And he's also got so many weapons compared to his own weapons. He's not dynamic.
Jon Stewart
Right.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Okay. I can put golf in the, I mean.
RG3
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Level two category. Such a drop off. Such a drop off. Because then you talk about, like, jalen hurts. Jalen hurts. And I think that's that category. Right. So I put Hurts. Boy, Hertz almost. Was that a plus after that Super Bowl. So close. Yeah, he was there. He was so close. I would put Jalen Hurts. I would put Goff. Jordan Love, I think, has gotten into like the. He came up through the butt. He came up through the butt. I'd put him in that second category because in my mind there's four categories. There's the A's, the B's, the C's that didn't quite. Maybe you either thought they would. And then the Ds who are just overrated and only have a job because they happen to be the 29th best or they're lucky that so and so's backup is under contract. Yes. Or a team is not wanting to spend money and they're going to lose for a bit.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Like, that would be like the Aiden Oconnells. That would be like the Gardner Minshew type guys.
Jon Stewart
Yep.
Bobby Bones
But that B category, I mean, you got to put. I think you put Stroud in there.
Jon Stewart
Stroud Baker.
Bobby Bones
We didn't put Stafford on there, did we? I think for a second, I think Stafford was up in that A. Yeah, he like winked at it for a minute because even though he was great in Detroit, they didn't win. So I don't think when that's. If you're not winning, I don't think you can be up in the A, even if you're amazing.
Jon Stewart
But then he got moved to la.
Bobby Bones
But he winked at it and won a Super Bowl.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And then they suck because they. People retired. You know, they. They went all in.
Jon Stewart
All their first round picks.
Bobby Bones
They went all in. Absolutely.
Jon Stewart
Yep.
Bobby Bones
So, yeah, he has a talent for sure, but hasn't been on enough winning teams to like, live in it. Yeah. But man, when he's rolling, he's on. He's. They can win against the Vikings. They can get to the Super Bowl. I don't think they will be shocked though. But. Yeah, but. But it wouldn't. Yeah. I wouldn't be like, this is unbelievable. Could you take him in the nfc? Like, which NFC quarterback in it now is better than him? Like, who would you rather have than him? Great question.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So, okay, let's just go NFC teams. Detroit Lions. Would I rather have Jared? And this is the big trade. I think I'd still rather have Matt Stafford. Yeah, I would too. I'd rather. Per the trade, then they would rather have Matt Stafford because they gave up golf and a bunch of picks. The difference is Stafford's going to be done before golf is.
Jon Stewart
Right?
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Stafford's probably got maybe next year. And then you start to flirt with maybe not. Who knows?
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I. I think I'd rather have Stafford than Jalen Hurts.
RG3
I would.
Bobby Bones
Different quarterbacks seems more clutch.
Jon Stewart
I don't know.
Bobby Bones
I think I'd rather. Now, are we in a vacuum a single season right now? Okay. Going into the playoffs right now, I'd rather have Stafford than Hertz. Yeah. Okay. The. I'd rather have Stafford than Jaden Daniels. Yeah. If we're going only this. This playoff. Right. So of the four teams, I think Stafford is the NFC quarterback I'd like to have the most. Yeah. And he's won a Super Bowl. He talking to Matt Castle. Dudes apparently, like a genius as far as remembering things.
Jon Stewart
Like Stafford is.
Bobby Bones
He's like, dude, remember like the sixth play they called in 2013 on it. And some, like McVeigh has that. They happen to be together. They happen to be together. So I'm sure that's. That's a. But he talked about Stafford that way.
RG3
Whoa.
Bobby Bones
Like, he can just remember everything.
Jon Stewart
I can't remember what I did yesterday.
Bobby Bones
Dude, where are we right now? You know, so here are the games on Saturday. You got the Texans again. Congratulations, Texans. You're a Saturday game. Yeah. You know, if there's an NFL game on Saturday in the postseason and the Texans are in the playoffs, just ride it down. It's there. Put it. Put it on a tablet, like. Because the NFL thinks probably the Texans, they haven't been around long enough to have a massive fan base. They haven't won a lot to have a massive fan base. So they put them in the least desirable spot.
Jon Stewart
Do you see their halftime show last week? Little mariachi band. Not Mariachi. Tejano, dude. It was cool, man.
Bobby Bones
What's the difference?
Jon Stewart
Mariachi. They got the hats and all the bells and the violin and everything. Tejano's like. It's more like a band with, like, drums and guitars.
Bobby Bones
Like a Mexican band. Yeah. Okay, good question. I would have said one's at a restaurant and one's not.
Jon Stewart
That's probably a better way.
Bobby Bones
No, no, that's not a better way out.
Jon Stewart
Because the Tejano band's not going to go to your table.
Bobby Bones
Correct. I would think a Tejano band is just like, pop Mexican. My mind is just like a pop Mexican band with guitars and stuff, but just from Mexico.
Jon Stewart
Yeah, that.
Bobby Bones
They're probably not called Tejano in Mexico. They're probably just called a band.
Jon Stewart
That would be a band.
Bobby Bones
I don't know if that's true. Would that be accurate? Yeah, like, ichi doesn't plug in. They're just like. I'm not fighting from my perspective. I'm just saying that's what I would have. We only call it a Tejano band because it's like a pop or rock band from Mexico. But if you go to Mexico, it's probably just a band.
Jon Stewart
Yeah, well, Tejano is a Texas Mexican band.
Bobby Bones
What does Tejano mean?
Jon Stewart
Texan.
Bobby Bones
Oh, Tejan, Tex. Texas and Mexico.
RG3
Right.
Bobby Bones
Tejano Mexican.
Jon Stewart
No, like, I'm a Tejano. Like, I'm a Texan born and raised.
Bobby Bones
Texan, Mexican. Right.
Jon Stewart
I think that's just what you say in Spanish, right, Mike?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, just Tejano.
Jon Stewart
So, like, Miranda Lambert is technically Tejano. She's Tejana.
Bobby Bones
No way. I always thought it was A Texas Mexican. Or like the family was from Mexico or like they were Texican.
Jon Stewart
George Strait. Tejano.
Bobby Bones
A white guy can be Tejano, dude, bro. The team named the Texans like the Tejanos.
Jon Stewart
Wow, that's awesome, Mike.
Bobby Bones
They should change it to that. They really should. My mind is blown.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So I guess maybe a person that I'm thinking would be called a Tex Mex then.
Jon Stewart
Like the food.
Bobby Bones
Yes. You're thinking of nachos. I am. Oh, I didn't know that. That's good. Okay. Also on Saturday, the Commanders and Lions.
Jon Stewart
Good game.
Bobby Bones
I think these are the least desirable games.
Jon Stewart
You don't think the Commanders can be a contender here? A little more Jaden Daniels matches.
Bobby Bones
No, I don't.
Jon Stewart
How interesting. I don't be close.
Bobby Bones
I think Detroit takes BTA and goes right, you know, belt.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I'll make sure everybody knows it again because one time I said it. Nobody belt.
Jon Stewart
I got it now.
Bobby Bones
That's why they're the Saturday games. I think those are the least interesting games. I think the Chiefs probably take it to Houston. The Tejanos and I don't know how Washington stops Detroit. Yeah. I don't. That's the difference. That is the difference. And then on Sunday, Rams and Eagles. That's a good game.
RG3
That is a good game.
Bobby Bones
That's a seven out of 10 game. Like, that's exciting. I'm not super, super interested in either team, but I'm quite interested in both. Both have B level storylines. That's a. That's a fun game. And either one of those teams winning the nfc, I would not be shocked by. The only time I'd be shocked by the nfc be the Commanders that won the NFC because it's so wide open.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
The Lions, the Eagles or the Rams to go to the Super Bowl. Okay. Could kind of see that coming. But then the Ravens and the Bills, 630, I guess 5:30 Central on Sunday night on CBS Paramount. Plus, that's the thing, man, that game that's going to be so tense for those guys. Like, I'm nervous for them and I don't give a crap about them.
Jon Stewart
Yeah. I just hope it's not a blowout like the game during the season was because I think Ravens blew them out 35 to 10. Oh, wow. Just got to hope it's a good one.
Bobby Bones
That was in Baltimore.
Jon Stewart
That was in Baltimore though, so.
Bobby Bones
And this is in Buffalo and it's playoffs.
Jon Stewart
I don't know.
Bobby Bones
Actually the forecast read mind looking at the forecast for Sunday.
Jon Stewart
Thank you.
Bobby Bones
Kind of Makes me sad that one of those two quarterbacks is going to be out. Same.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
It's like Captain America versus Iron stories all over. I'm like, can you go to the NFC for a little bit or something?
Jon Stewart
Could it be where like the whole game, both of them just run the ball the whole game? Like, yeah, screw the team. I'm doing this. And Lamar and then Josh, give me the ball. I'm doing this.
Bobby Bones
I think they've already had the MVP voting.
Jon Stewart
Okay.
Bobby Bones
So.
Jon Stewart
No.
Bobby Bones
So I don't. Yeah. I don't know that any of them can prove anything at this point. They just probably want to win the game. But that'd be a fun one. Yeah. I hate that one has to lose two sucks because I'm not totally invested in either one. Same. And it sucks that because they're both competitors and they're both so freaking good. It sucks that they both can't win. But I'm not going to advocate for participation. Trophy in division Weekend. No read. So Saturday, the highs are 39 degrees with the low of 18 degrees. It's going to be cloudy with rain and snow in the morning with a little bit of snow in the afternoon. And that's great. That's the day before the game. What about the day of the game? Oh, yeah, On Saturday. I mean, Sunday. Yeah, Sorry, weatherman here. 18% chance of snow flurries. High of 22 degrees, low of 10 degrees.
Jon Stewart
That is very cold.
Bobby Bones
I guess Baltimore, though, they're going to be fine and cold because they're used to it.
Jon Stewart
And Derek Henry is just like the next factor. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Odds makers as far as overall odds to win the Super Bowl. The Detroit Lions at plus 285, they are the favorite. A lot of that favorite is that they're on the side of the bracket that they think they can win the most. And then you put them in the Super Bowl. Then you have Kansas City at 2, Philadelphia at 3, Baltimore and Buffalo tied for 4th. And all those are. They're pretty close. The Rams commanders, Texans. You know, I think I should take a flyer on the Rams. They're a plus 2200.
RG3
Oh.
Bobby Bones
And I don't think they're going to win the super bowl, but that's a great.
Jon Stewart
They could definitely make.
Bobby Bones
That's a great. Odd to put 10 bucks on it.
Jon Stewart
Yeah, right. I'm doing that now then.
Bobby Bones
Because if they lose, it was only 10 bucks. But if they win, you're like, man, I thought they were better than what they were being given credit for. And yeah, then you can Even cash out if you get there.
Jon Stewart
Dude, you're telling me it's 10 bucks? Well, that's when you don't cash out. When it's $10.
RG3
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
But then you can hedge it and put it right back on a man. Or put it on the AFC team.
RG3
Yeah. The Chiefs.
Bobby Bones
The lines are Chiefs are minus eight. Minus eight right now in Kansas City. That'll be probably a cold game. Read Chiefs weather. Let's see on Sunday in Kansas City.
Jon Stewart
Let's Saturday.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. Saturday.
Jon Stewart
Saturday.
Bobby Bones
Well, it's like they had to deal with two. Like the Chiefs, which is the most popular team.
Jon Stewart
Right.
Bobby Bones
And the Texans, which are probably the least popular team. It's like they had to decide which team do we want to focus on? Yeah. And they. I guess they couldn't put it like Saturday at midnight, which would have been kind of middle ground. High of 25 degrees, low of 9 degrees. It looks so cold in that stadium because that stadium's old too, Right. Everything about playing in Kansas City looks like it hurts.
Jon Stewart
Is Arrowhead old? Yeah, it's been around for a while.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. I think it's called Geha Stadium now.
Jon Stewart
Oh, they do.
Bobby Bones
It's not called what is it? But I mean, I guess is it still referred to as. That's what everyone knows about legally. You know, they have. We don't want to jail.
Jon Stewart
Oh, true.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Jon Stewart
G E H A field and it's in the shape of an arrowhead.
RG3
Dude.
Bobby Bones
I don't know. I just been there. I've never been to a game there, but I've been to Kaufman Stadium, which.
Jon Stewart
Is that the baseball one.
Bobby Bones
They're right beside each other.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And so I'd go watch the Royals play. And then it's like there's what the Chiefs play.
Jon Stewart
That's cool.
Bobby Bones
1972.
Jon Stewart
Dang. That is old school.
Bobby Bones
Lions are minus nine and a half. That is in Detroit. Eagles are minus six over the Rams. Baltimore minus one at Buffalo. So they're a point favorite in Buffalo. That's fun. I'm looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to. Chiefs should just run away with it in that game quick so I can spend time with my wife.
Jon Stewart
Yes.
Bobby Bones
So then I can use that time for other games.
Jon Stewart
You build points, right?
RG3
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I would love for them to be up like by 21/2 so I don't have to watch second half. And then I can just go hang out with my wife. So when I do want to break away later, it's not as much of an ask, which she will always say yes to. But I know to not be able to hang out with me, that's tough.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Or. Or I do this. You can watch the game with me. She never wants.
Jon Stewart
I do that too. They never want to watch you go.
Bobby Bones
No, no. But you watch the game with me. Yeah. So Fun weekend ahead. DraftKings is crowning a king of the end zone. Every NFL game day. This weekend, it's super easy to do. You place a $5 pregame bet on an offensive player to find the end zone, and if they have the longest rushing or receiving touchdown that day, they are king of the end zone. And you want to share of $2 million in bonus bets. Think about that. A $5 pregame bet, you can be the king of the end zone. It's like Derek Henry to me is a for sure end zoner. But is he the longest? Like, that's where it gets a bit tricky. He does have breakaway. Ish. Ish speed. He can't but, like, sake one would probably be a guy as far as, like, rushing. Even last week when he slid right, he.
Jon Stewart
That was killer.
Bobby Bones
He breaks that second level.
Jon Stewart
Gone money on him.
Bobby Bones
You know, he's super fast too, is James Cook.
Jon Stewart
He is good.
Bobby Bones
He gets those corners and it's like, dang. Yeah. So if I were going to bet running back, probably Saquon receiving touchdown. That's a crapshoot.
Jon Stewart
Maybe Jalen hurts, gives AJ Brown some love after the whole book thing, literary thing going on.
Bobby Bones
What's weird is when A.J. brown would be mad he didn't get the ball when they lost. That was always weird to me because you're not going to win public favor with that when your team is winning. You hold that when you're losing. And then you'd have it split. Oh, yeah. We got to get in the ball, so we got to win. But if, like, you're winning and you're like, only got. I need the ball more. That ain't really politically a good move. Can't back that up. Yeah. No. In any way, can't.
Jon Stewart
And what's going on with Cooper Cup? Like, they'll go a whole half of a game without him getting the ball.
Bobby Bones
Well, if they're bracketing him the whole time, like, if they're. If their job is to shut down.
Jon Stewart
Cooper cup, they're doing it.
Bobby Bones
I feel like the Rams, because they do have puka, I feel like the Rams will go, okay, we will let you have that small victory. If not, we'll just give it to this guy. And I feel like part of their offensive philosophy is somebody's going to get shut down and you continue to be shut down because you're making it easier on everybody else. So I don't feel like Cooper is an A.J. brown type player, which I would be an A.J. brown type Player. Like I need the ball.
Jon Stewart
Well, 100%.
Bobby Bones
But I feel like he knows his role in that offense is if he's being bracketed or double teamed or or they're rolling over on him, he needs to continue to do that so it opens up the rest and he's not gonna pull out a book. If he does on the sidelines, it'd be like Cat in the hat. Dr. Something easy to read. Something easy to read. DraftKings sportsbook is crowning a King of the end zone every NFL game day. Jon Stewart
Yep.
Bobby Bones
He now does his own podcast and YouTube channel with his wife called out of Pocket with RG3. Check it out. We love spending time with him. Here he is. RG3. Hey, Mr. G3. Hey. What do people, what do people call you? They call you Rob or they call RG3. What do people like that, like meet you for the first time, call you Mr. Bones?
RG3
People who meet me for the first time call me RG3. But it's, it's just my initials. So you can call me Rob Griffin 3. If you want to call me RG or if you want to call me RG3, go for it.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, it's like I've been following your career. Like I know people that know you and they're like, we love them, but like what first time you meet them, if it's formal, Mr. G3. Like that. So we really appreciate you spending a little bit of time with us. I want to start obviously with the quarterbacks and Ravens and Bills, like that's the game. Both quarterbacks have a different pressure on them, but a lot of pressure on both. Who's got the most? Is it, is it Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson?
RG3
No, I mean it's, it's Lamar Jackson. And you know, the bottom line is this is an MVP showdown. Like this is the kind of game that you wish the MVP trophy could actually be on the line during this game. To have it in the divisional round shows you that the football gods have really been, been looking good upon us and blessing us in this moment. But, but honestly the game, there's more pressure on Lamar because of how he has performed in the playoffs, especially in his second game. You know, the stats support that. You know, he's won the majority of his first round games, but in his second game in the playoffs, his numbers are really, really bad. Not, not numbers that you would expect from a two time mvp. And Josh Allen, other hand in the playoffs has actually performed extremely well. I think his QBR is over a hundred or his quarterback rating is over a hundred. He's just run into a buzzsaw a bunch of times with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. So I think there is more pressure on Lamar Jackson being the two time mvp. But I don't think it comes down to whether or not Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson plays better. I personally believe it comes down to the running backs Derrick Henry and James cook. In their first matchup in week four, James Cook had 39 yards rushing and Derek Henry had 199. So when you look at that, it's the. It's the big fellows up front who don't get the most love in the world, those offensive linemen. But it's going to come down to how well they play, and the running backs are going to truly take this game over and determine who wins.
Bobby Bones
Would it be fair to say that there's the most pressure on Lamar in the playoffs, But Josh Allen's pressure would be against Patrick Mahomes because other than the regular season, he has not been able to win that situation?
RG3
Yeah, I think that is fair. But the bottom line for Josh Allen is he's not going against Patrick Mahomes in this game. And when you look at the first round games for each teams, the Ravens beat the Steelers, and of course the Bills beat the Broncos. But The Bills went 1 for 5 in the red zone against the Denver Broncos. And if they do that against the Baltimore Ravens, they're not going to win the game. In their first matchup in week four, they went 1 for 2 in the red zone. The Ravens went 4 for 4 and blew them out 35 to 10. So Josh Allen cannot focus on what could be ahead in Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs if they both get there. They have to take care of a Baltimore Ravens teams that, that beat the brakes off of them earlier in the season. And truly, it's kind of like a little bit of their kryptonite right now, because what the Ravens are great at, the Bills aren't.
Bobby Bones
The Eagles did not throw the ball well last week. They did win the game, but they, they did not throw the ball well. You got, you know, you got book reading on the sideline. It's not like they don't have the receivers. Is that was. Was that obviously not purposeful? But do they have to get a lot better at throwing the ball or are they just establishing Saquon in the run and then anything else is just gravy?
RG3
Bobby, it all comes down to perspective here. Okay? If you want to look at the glass half full, you say, listen, Saquon ran the ball extremely well. Jalen Hurts didn't need to throw the football all that often. And they're going up against the LA Rams, who they dominated in the running game. I think Saquon had 255 yards rushing in their game earlier this season as well. So that's glass half full. If you want to be negative and you want to look at a glass half empty, there's no way in hell that, that A.J. brown should ever finish a game that he was healthy in with one catch. For 10 yards. And I think when you look at the Eagles super bowl run, their passing game was humming. And when you have guys like Devontae smith, Dallas Goddard, A.J. brown, and Saquon Barkley also catching passes out of the backfield, there's no excuse for the Eagles to not be clicking on all cylinders when it comes to their passing game. And the only, the only caveat there is that Jalen Hurts missed the last two games of the season. So could he be getting back into the swing of things, you know, knocking off a little bit of rust? Yes. But A.J. brown reading that book on the sideline was something that I've heard he does a lot. It's not the first time he's done it, but the way they caught him reading it seemed like he was trying to woo, saw himself some Martin Lawrence to make sure that he didn't, you know, completely freak out on the entire team. And AJ's a team guy. I got to say that. He's a team guy. He only cares about winning. He had great spirits on the sideline. But if I'm a quarterback, I'm not finishing the game with him having one catch for 10 yards. He's getting one catch for 10 yard per drive. Like he's that important to their passing game. And when he's clicking, they're clicking. They got to find a way to get him the ball at least five times in the first quarter of this.
Bobby Bones
Game coming up, it could be Redskins, Brown, Browns, or Ravens, but when you were playing, was there a receiver that you felt, I got to get him the ball early, just so he stays involved mentally in the game. Who was that?
RG3
Yeah, my best receiver at the time was Pierre Garcon. He was my first touchdown pass in my career against the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome. So I knew I needed to get him the ball early, but it was also because he was our best player. And when you're an offensive coordinator, I know Kellen Moore is known for having these number one offenses and being able to do it either through the, through the air or on the ground. But you have that scripted 15 plays when you start the game, and you have to find ways to have at least five plays in that script that, you know, guaranteed A.J. brown is getting the football. I'm telling you, when you, when you do that and you get your star receiver involved early, it eliminates a lot of the consternation. It forces the defense to have to play coverage to that guy and opens up everybody else in the passing game. So that would be my My note to Kellen Moore is get the ball to A.J.
Bobby Bones
Brown.
RG3
He's your best player. You know, I'll say Quan Barkley pretty beastly.
Bobby Bones
Beastly, too. A.J.
RG3
Brown'S your best pass catcher. Go get him the ball.
Bobby Bones
Chiefs and Texans. Chiefs basically had two weeks off because a lot of those guys didn't play the last week of the season. But those guys are vets, and Andy Reid's done it, so they don't need it, right?
RG3
No, they don't. The. The. The thing I always say about the Kansas City Chiefs is they're not playing to win like the T shirt Olympics or, Or to look sexy during the regular season. They have one mission, and their mission is to three Pete, and I think they're poised to do it. Their defense is one of the top five in the NFL, and they got Patrick Mahomes at quarterback with a, a, a healthy slate of wide receivers. And Travis Kelce, who seemed like he took the entire regular season off, is now back and ready to roll in the postseason. And in their last game, you kind of saw him come to life on Christmas Day. So for the Chiefs, it's. They. They were probably bored during the regular season knowing that their mission was to be the first team ever to three peat, and I don't think that two weeks off will bother them. It's more of them coming out and establishing the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Against a Houston Texans team that looked really, really good last week when Kevin.
Bobby Bones
Durant was drafted out of Texas, the story was, he's so slight. Yeah, he's tall. He could shoot for a big guy, for a tall guy, but he's so slight. Same thing with Jaden Daniels. A bit, right? It was. He's. He's thin. He's thin. He's thin. With Kevin Durant, nobody talks about how thin he is anymore. Will that part of the conversation end with Jaden Daniels? After seeing what he's done this year.
RG3
I think it's already ended. You know, I heard the. I heard those murmurs about, hey, he's too skinny. Can he take a hit? Does he protect himself? And I think throughout his first year in the NFL, he's proven that he's not too skinny, that he can take a hit, and he's actually gotten smarter about sliding and getting down to avoid a lot of those big collisions. But the, the special thing for me with Jaden Daniels is just his demeanor. You know, you hear people say the old Stuart Scott saying he's, he's cool on the Other side of the pillow. This guy, when the stakes get higher, his emotions and his demeanor stays the same. It's almost like he rises as the stakes get higher in the game. And he's got five game winning drives this year. The Commanders have won their last five games, all on the last play from scrimmage. So I've heard some people call them the cardiac Commanders. And to me, it's just, you know, right now, if you're the Washington Commanders, if you get the ball and you're down by three, you're down by five, and Jaden Daniels is your quarterback, that you're going to win that football game. And, and that's a situation. If you're the Detroit Lions, you do not want to let the Commanders hang around because Jaden Daniels has a knack, especially in the, in his rookie year, of finding ways to get the Commanders to win the game and their Cinderella season can continue. And I think that that's the beautiful thing about it. Obviously, I play for the Commanders and I'm very excited about the team and what Jaden's done. There's, there's no better city to win in than in Washington, D.C. but at the end of the day, the Detroit Lions are the favorites to win the super bowl right now. And if you're them, you don't want to allow the Cinderella story to continue. Don't let them hang around, otherwise Jaden Daniels will beat you.
Bobby Bones
So speaking of Jaden, like, that reminds me of your career. And so my question to you is, how do you go in as a rookie into a position that is traditionally the leadership position and lead when everyone's like, dude, you're a kid, like, how hard is that to do?
RG3
It's very hard. And listen, I had, you know, the honor to play with guys like London Fletcher, who calls the games, I believe, for NBC, you know, during the, during the week and during the postseason for the Commanders, I got to play with Santana Moss. And when you walk into that locker room, you got two legends that you've looked up to your entire life. Basically, I see that as being essentially similar to what Jaden experienced walking into a locker room with Bobby Wagner as your middle linebacker. There's a certain level of respect that you have towards that player. And the number one thing you have to do is show them. You don't got to tell them, don't tell them what you're going to do. Don't tell them you're going to do this and we're going to do that. You show them what you're going to do. And that's what Jaden did. He went in, he worked his tail off. He earned their respect, he earned the starting job and now he's shown them with his play that he is their leader and that they should follow him. He's, he's risen the level of everybody around him. Their leading receiver last week was Diami Brown. I know Diami Brown is, I'm sure his family and friends know who he is too. But that was a career game for him and he had big plays in the biggest moments and Jaden never even batted an eye at throwing the football in his direction in those moments. So to me, I just look at what he's been able to accomplish and I'm very, you know, obviously proud of what he's been able to do. But he has shown them that they can trust him and they can believe in him. Look at his reaction. Go back and watch his reaction. After Zayn made the field goal to doink them into the divisional round, he didn't react at all because he has a higher mission in mind. It's not just about winning one playoff game. He wants to bring the super bowl back to Washington D.C. and I think that's what he's going to eventually do in his career and he has a good chance of doing it this year.
Bobby Bones
How slow were the defenses in high school to you? Like was it.
Jon Stewart
Yeah, turtles.
RG3
Now like you don't realize it until you get out of it. Okay, so I grew up in a 1,000 square foot home, if that. Well, when I turned pro in my first house was 6,000 square feet. So when I went back after a few months of living in that house to the house I grew up in, you tell yourself, holy cow, I didn't realize that this house was actually this small because when I grew up in it I thought it was a mansion. So when you go back and you watch high school football after you've been in college for a few months, you, you realize the, how high of a level college football is. My, my biggest offensive lineman was. Let me take that back. My, my starting center in high school was 5, 10, 250 pounds. My starting center in college was 6, 4, 325 pounds. So just from your eyes and what you see, it's completely different. It's a completely different game. So when I like when I watch high school football now, yes, it's the slowest thing I've ever seen. It's like watching basketball at the YMCA or at the, at Lifetime Fitness. You're like oh, man, that's. That's something. You know, it's part. It's part of it.
Bobby Bones
They have you playing multiple positions when needed in high school because you were the athlete.
RG3
I did. I played quarterback and I played safety, so.
Bobby Bones
And you played both ways all the day. Like you were. You weren't like the nickel or dime guy, like you were the safety.
RG3
No, I didn't play. I didn't play both ways the entire time. Now, you know, like Travis Hunter.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
RG3
Playing every single snap, wide out and db. I did not do that. I played spot duty safety, which basically meant if we were going against a team that had a guy that was faster than everybody else on the defense, then they put me at safety because that was my job. Hey, just go run that guy down. Okay? Go run that guy down and make sure he doesn't score. But I actually started off playing outside linebacker and quarterback, so that was fun for a little bit. But no, I didn't. I didn't play full time both sides of the ball in high school.
Bobby Bones
I feel like if you're playing linebacker, if you're playing off ball, there's a lot of finger and wrist injuries that can easily happen. I don't want my quarterback who needs their fingers, wrist and arms. Like, I think that's probably why I would not. Even though you're like the great athlete of the conference, division, state, I wouldn't want you playing a linebacker. Right. That had to be why I.
RG3
Yes. If we were. We threw the ball a little bit, we ran the ball a fair share and had an all state running back behind me by the name of Troy Vital, served in the military. It's my brother, you know, appreciate his service. But playing linebacker and having a long arm, guys, and set the edge of the line of scrimmage and make sure everything gets turned back inside can be a little bit more difficult on the shoulder region, if you know what I'm saying. So that. That's probably why I stopped playing linebacker.
Bobby Bones
The jump from high school to college or the jump from college to pros, which speed differential shocked you most?
RG3
Ooh, I think the jump from. That is a tough question. That is a very tough question. See, Bob, that's why you do this. I would say the jump from college to the NFL was more drastic because when you go from high school to college, the talent travels with you. Right. So I used to go to camps in the summer and I'd be throwing the receivers who are five star, four star guys going. All these big schools, they catch everything, you know, you Throw it at their, their toes, their, their baby toenail on their pinky toe. They, they scrape it off the ground. They make a great play or they make a one handed grab behind their back. I didn't have a ton of that in high school. I had great receivers though, but not a ton of that. Well, when you go to college now all those guys are coming with you. So the talent level is a, is a big jump, but the talent around you is also a big jump. I feel like in the NFL you take the one or two guys I played against, Von Miller in college, he went to Texas A and M. Well, now there's like seven Von Millers on one team and they're all rushing you at the same time. And now your offensive line doesn't have the advantage because you don't got to focus on one edge, you got to focus on both edges. And that to me is where the speed difference kind of became bigger. And the hashes are tighter in the NFL than they are in college. So there's more space to cover for the defense in college than there is in the NFL. So everything is tighter. The throwing windows are tighter. The talent is. Every single guy on the field was somebody in high school and college. They were all American in high school, all American in college, and now the whole defense is all Americans. That's why it's a lot more difficult in the NFL. Tighter field, better athletes, and they're getting paid. So if you score a touchdown on them or they miss a tackle, it's taking food off their plate. And I don't think people understand how hungry guys are when they get to the NFL because they have to take care of their families. That's a big difference than growing into becoming a man. In college football as kids we would.
Bobby Bones
Watch our favorite teams. It didn't matter the sport. And we had freaking rivals like Grubba. Cubs fan, Hated the Cardinals. Grew up, you know, Cowboy fans. I'm super close with hated, you know, whatever other nfc.
Jon Stewart
So the Redskins.
Bobby Bones
Sure, fair enough. Yes, yes. How real is that in the locker room though? Like how does that translate? And if it does, is it media driven that makes you hate the other team or do you at all?
RG3
I think it's, it's a combination. It depends on how long you're there, right? I go to Baylor. Our, our natural rivals were the teams that used to beat the crap out of us all the time. So like Texas and Oklahoma probably didn't look at us, look at Baylor as a rival, but we certainly looked at them as rivals. And when we eventually beat them there when I was in college, it was a big deal, but TCU was, was one of our rivals. A and M was one of our rivals in the NFL. It's almost like you're. You guys ever played Dungeons and Dragons?
Bobby Bones
Familiar with it?
RG3
Okay, you're familiar with it. I've never played, by the way.
Bobby Bones
Well, I don't. I only said familiar with it because I didn't want you to feel like we were judging.
Jon Stewart
We've never played.
RG3
I have never played Dungeons and Dragons, but I mean, you know, real life, action live, playing that, what they call them, LARPers. It's almost like you're cosplaying whatever team that you're on. You never hear a player say, man, this fan base is just the worst, right? They. It's always, hey, man, this fan base is the greatest. We're the. They're the best. They're awesome. So whatever that fan base is passionate about, the players become passionate about. Because you, you want to endear yourself to the fan base. You want to endear yourself and your teammates to the people who are supporting you, paying for the tickets. You know, really, the reason that we even have a job in the first place is because of the fandom that they have of. Of these teams. So if you're the Bears, yeah, you're going to hate the Packers. If you're the commanders, you're going to hate the Cowboys, the, and the Eagles and the Giants. And I think it becomes real the longer you're there. If you're there for three, four, five years, that's real hatred. It. It becomes ingrained in you. It's no longer cosplaying it. But when you step foot into a. And the first thing you say as a starting quarterback, the Chicago Bears is, you know, f. The Packers. Yeah, it's not really real. You know, you don't really, you don't have any experience with that. You're just cosplaying that in the moment. But I will say, for guys that were on teams that I was on for multiple years, it becomes real quickly because of the animosity between the fan bases.
Jon Stewart
RG3 how much football do you actually watch? Because, you know, Bobby and I, we have, we talk about, you know, telling our wives, like, hey, well, this was important to us. We're actually going to watch this game versus work.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Jon Stewart
We're like, it's work versus all day Sunday. How much football are you actually watching? Like on Sundays and especially the playoffs too, right?
RG3
Yeah. I mean, for me, I Watch the games. And, and the NFL has the app now where you can basically stream the games even if they're not shown in your. Whatever part of the country that you're in, which I used to hate that. Right? You, you, you're stuck with no offense. You know, the Jaguars going against, against the Titans, and, and you want to watch the, the Ravens and the Bills. You know a ton of football on TV when they're actually. The games are live. But that pales in comparison to the amount of football that I, that I, that I feel like I have to watch after the games are all done. Breaking down the film so that I can be educated when I talk to you guys. I want to say it's the wrong way, but there's a lot of people out there who are faking it. You know, I watch all this tape, I do all this, and they don't really do it, and you can tell when they start talking about the game. But I don't know if you guys experienced this in your own relationships, but for me, it's on Sundays and on the weekend, I'm a girl dad of four, as you can see. You know, the hoodie here got this from the daughters. I did not make make this hoodie. They made it for me. So thank you. Appreciate you guys. But it's. Wifey wants to go do things, so it's like, hey, we're going to the pumpkin patch, or we're going to this light show over here. We're gonna go see Sonic 3. And I'm like, yeah, but, you know, the game's on. I kind of got to watch this. And so I, I. She wins, of course, right? And we go do these different things, and I make sure that I find ways to watch the game either on my phone or just keep track of it on social media. So that, to me, is probably the biggest struggle, but it's a struggle that I'm willing to take on because I enjoy being a girl dad and I love my family, and I want to do things with them as well as watch football.
Bobby Bones
Last question. Where do you keep your Heisman right now?
RG3
It is right there.
Bobby Bones
Do I do see it?
RG3
Yeah. Yeah. Can you guys see it? Right in the middle?
Jon Stewart
Oh, right in the middle. Look.
Bobby Bones
Oh, it is right there. It's covered enough. Oh, yeah. That's pretty. I had T bows in my house for a while. I think it's very heavy. I was surprised at how heavy that, that I like. Even when they hand it to you, are you like, oh, God. When you win, it you're like, oh, God dang. The thing's heavy, right?
RG3
Yeah, it's, it's. It's about. It's a good 45.
Bobby Bones
It's substantial.
RG3
Yeah, it's. And it's distributed weirdly. You know, it's not like a plate where you can just grab and hold on to it. Did you win? Tebow's on, like, in the auction that he does.
Bobby Bones
Luke Bryan is a friend of mine, and we were doing some stuff on espn and so we had. And Luke was messing, like, troll and Tebow have a bulldog, and so he's having the bulldog lick the Heisman. So it just stayed at the house for a couple days. It's a whole thing like, like, okay, we're playing Dungeons and Dragons.
RG3
We're licking trophies and playing Dungeons and dragons.
Bobby Bones
We're LARPing, whatever. Yeah. So you mentioned your family. So out of Pocket with RG3 is the podcast that you do with your wife. How, like, with her involvement, was she like, I want to do this, or were you like, hey, this would be a really cool dynamic if we did this?
RG3
I would say that it was. It was probably. Our families are always there for us when. When things go wrong, so. And when they go right, of course. So when. When I ended up getting laid off from espn, you know, my wife was the. The person that I talked to about really everything, but also sports and like, hey, I got this take. Would you be able to understand this? She's Estonian, so, you know, football wasn't, you know, the thing that they really focus on over there in Europe. You know, it's more football, soccer. So if she could understand what I was saying, and I knew that the people that I'm talking to, whether it's the. The most complicated fan or the fan that doesn't know a lot would. Would know what's going on. So for doing that for three to four years, she became very well versed in football, which is obviously the world that I exist in. But she's also the record holder at Florida State in the heptathlon. So she's a great athlete of her own that we connected via track and field. That's a big bond for. For the both of us. And I was like, you know, I kind of want to do this podcast thing. Let's. Let's have some fun. And I wanted to do it with her. I wanted her to be my co host. I feel like she adds so much more to the dialogue of not just football, but life. Asking people the questions that people really want to know, not just, hey, what's cover two? You know, what's double lurk? Cover zero. They want to know how these people are as, as family and who they are behind closed doors. When we, we sat down with Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman and we asked him about raising six kids and he started to talk about how his wife was the reason that he's able to do the job that he's able to do and why they're in the national championship now. And I think people want to hear that. So for me, being able to do this with my wife is something that's truly special. And I think that she would probably say the same thing that when, when things hit the fan, we looked at each other and said, let's just do this together. And it's been a great journey so far. I think it'll continue to be.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.

Bobby Bones
I was watching some Auburn basketball and I saw Janaiah got hurt.
Jon Stewart
He did well.
Bobby Bones
He has like a few days ago like sprained his ankle so bad. Like a non surgical really terrible ankle sprain.
D
Whoa.
Bobby Bones
So we did too much access with Auburn basketball last year and Janai Broome, their star like had a bad, bad sprain. They thought it could have been a lot worse but he's out for I think a while. Hey Weatherman Reed, you mind saying how long Janai's out? Yep, I'm on it. Listen, it sucks being an Arkansas fan right now. Our football team, our basketball team, we're 04 SEC play. It's terrible. So I found myself on SC Network watching Auburn. They're really good, right? They're really good. And I don't hate them. And we spent time with Coach Pearl.
Jon Stewart
Oh, yeah. And Auburn, we played on that court.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Auburn's not hateable anyway. Unless you're Alabama. Like, they're not like a rival. I don't know. There's just something that's not detestable about Auburn.
Jon Stewart
So Charles Barkley love too, right? I don't know.
Bobby Bones
Do you ever hear Charles Barker talk about why he picked Auburn?
Jon Stewart
No.
Bobby Bones
Because he went on his recruiting trip and they all sucked. And he's like, well, I can play here. He watched him practice and it's like, these guys suck.
Jon Stewart
Hilarious.
Bobby Bones
Because he only got recruited, like, all he didn't get because he didn't grow until late. Like, he didn't turn to the.
Jon Stewart
He's a late bloomer.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. But he went to Auburn practice and thought they sucked and was like, oh, I can play here. And that's why he went to Auburn.
RG3
Dang.
Bobby Bones
Which is funny. Says right now he's out indefinitely.
RG3
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Ginnabram out.
Jon Stewart
Not good.
Bobby Bones
Eddie thinks he may be stronger than kickoff. Kevin.
Jon Stewart
I mean, you guys were there, you saw it.
Bobby Bones
So let me just reset these real quick. We were working out, and there's a 100 pound ball that you have to lift up and throw over your shoulder. It's 100 pounds. It is a heavy ball. Yeah, it's way heavier than it looks. It is concentrated £100 into a ball.
Jon Stewart
Don't even know what's in there, but it's heavy.
Bobby Bones
It's £100. Good point.
Jon Stewart
Like, what's in there?
Bobby Bones
How can you make that size thing that heavy?
Jon Stewart
And what I don't understand is the 50 pound ball is just a little smaller than the 100 pound ball, but it weighs double the the weight.
Bobby Bones
So we had finished recording Lots to say, our NFL show, and Kevin produces that. And so Kevin stayed back and he's doing whatever the audio, I don't know, mail it to somebody.
Jon Stewart
Whatever he does.
Bobby Bones
Licking the microphone. I don't know what he does, but all I know is I left to go and meet up with Eddie. Reed shoots, Lots to say, and we start working out. And a third the way through the workout, Klug's like, all right, here's the hundred pound ball. Boom. Kevin is walking through. Kevin's in great shape. Kevin's very strong. And they start to, like, tease Kevin, can you do it, Kevin? Come on. And I feel bad for Kevin. Kevin's in jeans. He got a hat on, so. And I know the pressure that Kevin feels because Kevin's, like, in shape and got muscles and he. You guys are pushing him. I wasn't pushing you. I thought you weren't stretched. I did not want to put you in that situation. But Kevin's like, I'll do it. Let's go.
RG3
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And so Kevin does it and I don't know. What'd you get? 4. 1. He just did it one time. Yeah, I just did it one time just to see what it was like. And it was heavy. But also, you were not in a place to where you were loose enough to give it a real go.
RG3
No.
Bobby Bones
And it was like 20 degrees out. Well, but we were also out in the 20 degrees. Yeah, but you guys are like a half hour into your workout. You're sweating. Yes.
RG3
And all that.
Bobby Bones
All that I agree with. Yeah, but Eddie thinks he's stronger than you because he watched you do it once. Cold.
Jon Stewart
I did it, what, five times? Six times.
Bobby Bones
You didn't do it six. So let's not. Let's not go crazy. It was your record. Whatever it was. Your record was five.
Jon Stewart
Probably five then. Yeah, five, man. But I was feeling strong.
Bobby Bones
That has nothing to do with Kevin. That doesn't mean you're stronger than him. You had done it before. One other time.
Jon Stewart
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
And the environment to you, you were loose. You had done it with a 50 pound ball to get loose, warmed up a little bit.
RG3
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
It was unfair for you to say that you're stronger than him.
Jon Stewart
Well, you know, you look at Kevin and like you said, he's a pretty ripped dude. Like, he looks built and everything. And when. When he got down there to pick up the ball, it was kind of slow.
Bobby Bones
He was in jeans, dude.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Sneakers. Yeah. And like a big old flannel. Didn't really get a good grip on it.
RG3
And a hat.
Bobby Bones
See, I didn't get the grip underneath. I quote, kevin might be the weakest out of all of us. No, you did not.
Jon Stewart
Because. Reed, how many did you get?
Bobby Bones
I got. I got. I got six, but it was technically five. You did not get sick. Not inflating our stats here. I will not allow it. This is not the steroid era. So to be clear, it's. It's six in one minute. You have to beat 59.9 seconds. Yeah. So I didn't do one in one minute. I just did one. Just because you guys are like, hey, just try one.
Jon Stewart
Pretty sure it took you about 30 seconds to do one.
Bobby Bones
This was his instruction.
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I don't need to stand up for you because. Yeah, I have faith in you.
Jon Stewart
I'm just saying, when I saw Kevin do his thing, in my mind, I'm like, wow, he's not that. Not as strong as I thought he was. And then I saw us do the five bones. You did seven and under a minute. I'm like, gosh, I think Kevin may be the weakest out of all of us.
Bobby Bones
So you can base that off of just one rep of anything. In jeans. Cold.
RG3
In jeans.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, cold.
Jon Stewart
I feel like if Arnold Schwarzenegger went showed up, he would have gotten that ball. And. And then, like, this is not heavy, but you, like, struggled with it.
Bobby Bones
Well, comparing me to Arnold Sch. Schwarzenegger, I don't know how comparable that is when it comes to strength.
Jon Stewart
Nut and bones. You don't think a little bit.
Bobby Bones
I thought. I thought you were very wrong for that.
Jon Stewart
Okay.
Bobby Bones
And I think that Kevin is stronger than probably all of us. Dang. I was over there. You rooting Eddie on and all that while he was getting his. Hey, if I wasn't there rooting you on or if I wasn't put pressure on you, you think you would have gotten your new pr?
Jon Stewart
Yeah, I don't know. Maybe not.
Bobby Bones
I don't think so. I think you got a little pumped up. There was a new audience. Yeah. So I help you, and then you just knocked me down. Huh. I didn't even get the new audience. I don't think Kevin even watched me.
Jon Stewart
Did you watch Bunch?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I did. I did, but that's right when I was walking up, you're like, we're in the middle of it. He's peeking. He's giving me the old come up to the window late at night, looking through as I'm getting in the shower. I saw you guys from a distance. I had to see what's going on.
Jon Stewart
Someday, Kevin, Someday.
Bobby Bones
I got seven, which for me is my record. And I'm telling you, your heart is pounding out of your chest doing this crap. That thing. That ball is heavy as crap. The hardest part is.
RG3
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Picking it up, deadlifting it, and then squatting back down, getting the right grip and all that jeans. What a hater. I know. I do want to do this. I want to play a clip here. We had Ian Rapaport on Lots to say. And so if you go over and you Google. I guess not Google, but if you search wherever you podcast Lots to say, it's Matt Castle and myself and we were talking about the latest coaching situation in Dallas, if the Vikings will keep Sam Darnold, et cetera. So here's a clip from Lots to say. What do you think is the most attractive job, in your opinion for any of these head coaches that are coming out? Because obviously the jets, they're, they're going.
D
To sit there and you don't know.
Bobby Bones
If Aaron Rodgers is coming back. The pieces in Chicago are very attractive.
RG3
Jacksonville as well, with their team, the.
Bobby Bones
Youth that they have, and a quarterback that obviously has had really high highs, but really low, a lot of lows as well.
D
Well, I would say to me we'll include the Patriots in that, even though it's already been filled. The only thing you're really looking for if, if you're a coach taking over, for taking over a job is can you win? Like, can you win?
Bobby Bones
Right?
D
What's the infrastructure? Like, what are you inheriting? Can you win? And I think most times during this time of year you're kind of like, well, yeah, like I do want a job, but they don't have a quarterback or they're in bad salary cap space or like they got all rebuild. Like, there's actually a surprising number of places this year where you could go in and win. Like, Chicago has a quarterback. Like, do they need some work? Yeah, they do, but they got a guy. Jacksonville, I believe, has a guy. Is Trevor Lawrence going to be Patrick Mahomes? Probably not. But you know, could he be starting for a playoff team with some better coaching? Like he could and he has been. Like he has.
Bobby Bones
Right.
D
And divisionally.
Bobby Bones
Right. It's probably when you look at Jacksonville and the division that they're in, they could go in and win now.
D
Well, yeah, and like, if you look at the roster, like, they got some pieces. They got three good receivers, they got a good tight end, they got a good young offensive line attack, left tackle, who's locked up. They got a couple really good pieces off the edge in defense. They got a good back end. They have a highly paid corner. They have a really good linebacker who's the first round pick. I mean, that's a lot of good players, right? So. And then, you know, so I think those are some of the better ones. And a surprising number. And Dallas, it's like if you're the Dallas Cowboys head coach, it's a lot. Okay. Like I can't even. It's like almost nothing else in sports where you're the head coach, slash spokesman, slash carnival barker, slash, you know, frontman, like all of the things just, it's like it's the most all encompassing coach job in sports. I can't compare it to anything else. But they got Dak Prescott, they got a good offensive line with some good young pieces. They got some great receivers, they got Micah Parsons and a couple all pro corners. Like they got some dudes so you can win there. The toughest one for me, which may eventually end up being Ben Johnson's job, is Las Vegas, but they have Tom Brady. And that in itself for people who like to be associated with people who are awesome, it's a pretty interesting place as well.
Bobby Bones
Well, the Vikings lost to the Rams. Have any say on what the Vikings do with Sam Darnold? Or did they already know?
D
You know, I would say the, the Lions game was tough. And if you were wondering whether or not that was an anomaly, Darnold followed it up with the playoff game last night. So it's like that game alone wasn't anything but those two games. And then it's almost like the Sam Darnold detractor spent the whole season waiting for that, being like, all right, well eventually he's going to turn into Sam Darnold. And then when he did, it's like every jets fan in the world. Text Meg. Yep, I've seen that guy before and I'm like, like, I get it. Like, everyone wants to say I told you so. I think a long run in the playoffs would have really helped him. I don't think it means he's not going to be able to get a starting job next year, but it does alter the landscape a little bit. Like if you're Minnesota, are you a little, little, little, little less likely to give him a long term deal? Maybe you want to give him the franchise tag instead. Or maybe you want to say, you know what, I've seen the good, I've seen the bad. It's just not enough. And we got a young guy. We're just going to roll. I think it probably at the very least made them think about, all right, like, what really are our options rather than like, this is our franchise quarterback. Let's move again.
Bobby Bones
Subscribe to that. We appreciate you listening here. If you want to listen there, that would be super cool.
Jon Stewart
Hey, crazy though, huh? Like, crazy. I talked about Dion and now it's like a possibility kind of a thing.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Did you leak the story? You think you had anything to do with it?
Jon Stewart
No, I just felt like I said it, you know, just kind of like, ooh, that would be cool. And immediately after that, like, it became like, wow, they Had a conversation. Now Dion is having a conversation with Jerry Jones. This is crazy.
Bobby Bones
Where do you get credit for any single thing that happened? Because I feel like your tone is giving you some sort of credit.
Jon Stewart
No, but it's kind of cool. Like, you know, you come on here and we talk about it of a lot of stuff, and we're wrong a lot. But whenever you're right like this, like, and then you turn on ESPN and they're having the same conversation that you just came up with like, an hour ago, it's pretty cool.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Jon Stewart
You know what I'm saying?
Bobby Bones
I would push back because you guys.
Jon Stewart
Were laughing at me.
Bobby Bones
No, no, no, no. I didn't even know he had been fired. So true. We came on and I hadn't seen the news that morning because we were running. I was running back to back with interviews with the show, and you were like, mccarthy's been fired. I'm like, what? That's crazy. You can listen back to it. And then I think any rational person would go, oh, I wonder if Deion Sanders is going to interview for that job.
Jon Stewart
You said, so what do you, like, think is going to happen next? And I was like, I don't know. It'd be cool to have Dion. That's all I said. He was listening. I don't know. And then all of a sudden, I.
Bobby Bones
Think you're missing the point that I think anybody would have thought Deion Sanders would have been interviewed for that job.
Jon Stewart
Really? Because when I would, like, say, like, other dads, like, at basketball practice, they're like, yo, okay, do you guys really want that? That's not a thing.
Bobby Bones
I think there's a difference in would the Cowboys talk to him? And would you really want that? Yeah, it doesn't matter. I hope.
Jon Stewart
Pretty cool, though.
Bobby Bones
And also, Dion was in the Raiders conversation, right? So it wasn't even that. Dion wasn't in the NFL world at all as a possibility.
Jon Stewart
What, are you shooting my dream down, man?
Bobby Bones
I'm not at all.
Jon Stewart
I said something I think everyone else was saying.
Bobby Bones
No, I think you just thinking you're stronger than Kevin really set me on a bad place.
Jon Stewart
You just don't believe.
Bobby Bones
I just respect, like, the work Kevin puts in to be strong. But you are getting a lot stronger, too. Thank you.
Jon Stewart
Thank you.
Bobby Bones
Dude, Reed look pretty good, too. Thank you, man. I've lost a decent amount of weight Reed has. By eating, right?
Jon Stewart
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And doing exercise on the off days.
RG3
Yeah.
Jon Stewart
There you go.
RG3
Consistency.
Bobby Bones
What are you eating? Like, what's the difference? So I wake up five Eggs. And then I do ground turkey with ground turkey with asparagus or broccoli. Five eggs. Five eggs. Do you eat them different ways? I switch it up. I started out boiling them and then I was like, this is too much. And then I started scrambling them. And then now sometimes I do sunny side up, but it's just. It's a lot of eggs by that. By that fourth egg, I'm sick of it. So I do the five eggs and I do the ground turkey, which is essentially just dog food that I put ketchup on with some broccoli and then do the protein shake. And then I'll do like chicken and asparagus or whatever for dinner. And you've stayed with it. Yeah.
Jon Stewart
How's that pee after all that asparagus?
Bobby Bones
Dude, it is raunchy. It is. Yeah. It's a real thing for you. Because I ate asparagus a decent amount and mine doesn't smell bad. Really?
RG3
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Oh, what's the thing? I got more interested in that than anything I've said all day. Wow.
RG3
What's the.
Jon Stewart
Like, you ever eaten beets?
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Jon Stewart
And then like, you go, I don't.
Bobby Bones
Eat enough beets to know. Oh, I'll eat beets occasionally on, like a salad, but I don't eat beets enough to like, monitor my.
Jon Stewart
That freaks me out. One time, Purple Rain, like, I was like, ah, take me to the hospital. I am dying. Look at this.
Bobby Bones
We're proud of you, man. Thank you. We're proud of you. All right, who wins?
Jon Stewart
Straight winners at lifting the 100 pound ball?
Bobby Bones
Nope. I'm coming sometime. Straight winners go this weekend. Kevin, go. Yeah, you got to go. Chiefs, Lions, Eagles. And I'm going to go. Josh Allen. I'm going to go to the Bills. It's his year. I will just do ditto marks. Those were all four of the same teams. I would have picked the same here. Thanks, Ray. Eddie.
Jon Stewart
All right, we got to go Chiefs and we've got to go. I say Ravens. Ravens win that and then Eagles and this is the.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to switch my Eagles to the Rams. Really? Let's go.
Jon Stewart
I mean, that's definitely, definitely a possibility.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to switch. My Rams are six point underdog. They've given up almost a whole touchdown. I'm still going to go with the Rams. They. I'm ramming it. I'm sorry to interrupt.
Jon Stewart
That's okay. I got Eagles on that one, though. And then my big shocker is I think the Commanders beat the Lions.
Bobby Bones
Wow. All right, Casey.
Jon Stewart
I mean, I gotta go with yeah. Casey. Detroit. I mean, I like Philly, so I'll probably stick with Philly and I'm leaning Baltimore. I really think the Derrick Henry thing is gonna kind of change. Change the outcome of this game.
Bobby Bones
So the only thing I guess I would say is the Derek Henry thing. Changing the outcome of a game. Is that a thing? I think, isn't that just like a massive part of the game?
Jon Stewart
I guess I'm part of the team. What I really mean is Lamar getting over the hump. That's what I feel.
Bobby Bones
I thought you meant like this new running back. You guys don't know about Derrick Henry.
Jon Stewart
We know.
Bobby Bones
I'm like, I don't know. That's it.
Jon Stewart
Sometimes my words and my thoughts don't quite gel. And then what's the thing that he's.
Bobby Bones
On the team and runs hard? I don't know. I thought that's my thing. Like what's the thing? We know every day. I feel you. So. So mostly the thing that's being changed is Lamar and his success in the playoffs.
Jon Stewart
Yes, exactly. Exactly.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Would it be fun? That's it. Thank you all. There is no update. We're all. I mean, I have five. Yeah. People in four Super bowl tickets.
Jon Stewart
I mean, what about this 100 pound ball challenge?
Bobby Bones
Oh, my God.
Jon Stewart
Don't start, Casey.
Bobby Bones
Oh my God. I got think about that. You going to be say, not say, say. I'm going to get 15 of them things.
RG3
Say.
Bobby Bones
Not another word. I'll have to talk to each person individually so they don't feel pressure. Casey. That's hilarious. Somebody's going to hurt Casey and I'm down. I'm not involved. So thank you all. The Bobby Bones Show – Episode 25W Summary
Release Date: January 16, 2025
Bobby Bones and Jon Stewart dive deep into the current state of the NFL playoffs, emphasizing the unprecedented strength of quarterbacks in the league. They highlight the "golden age of the quarterback," attributing it to both the talent on the field and the league's protective rules that allow quarterbacks to perform at their peak safely.
Key Points:
Quarterback Hierarchy: Bobby Bones ranks Patrick Mahomes as the top quarterback, followed by Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. He underscores the versatility and athleticism that distinguish A-tier quarterbacks from the rest.
Bobby Bones [06:56]: "We're in a golden age of the quarterback. [...] we got Mahomes at one, Lamar at two, and Josh Allen at three."
Team Predictions: The hosts analyze upcoming playoff games, focusing on matchups like Buffalo vs. Baltimore and Rams vs. Eagles. They discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each team, predicting potential Super Bowl contenders.
Jon Stewart [16:54]: "The Lions, the Eagles or the Rams to go to the Super Bowl. Okay. Could kind of see that coming."
Player Impact: Emphasis is placed on the role of running backs Derrick Henry and James Cook, suggesting their performances could be pivotal in determining the outcomes of key playoff games.
RG3 [30:49]: "When you look at that, it's the big fellows up front who don't get the most love in the world, those offensive linemen. But it's going to come down to how well they play, and the running backs are going to truly take this game over and determine who wins."
Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3) joins the show to provide expert insights into the pressures faced by current quarterbacks and shares his experiences growing up as a superior athlete.
a. Pressure on Quarterbacks: Lamar Jackson vs. Josh Allen
RG3 discusses the immense pressure on Lamar Jackson, especially given his status as a two-time MVP and his performance inconsistencies in playoff games. In contrast, Josh Allen faces pressure when contending with powerhouse quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes.
RG3 [29:25]: "There's more pressure on Lamar because of how he has performed in the playoffs, especially in his second game."
b. Importance of Running Backs
Highlighting the significance of running backs, RG3 points out that the success of teams like the Chiefs and Bills heavily relies on their running game, which can tip the scales in close playoff matchups.
