This is a podcast called 25 Whistles. Talking football. And they all wear a whistle. Yeah, it's stupid, but why did you expect it to podcast? Call 25 whistles.
Eddie
25 whistles.
Bobby Bones
Hey yo, blow the whistle there. Okay, so this is coming out on Friday. We actually recorded this Wednesday afternoon before we went to Thanksgiving. So anything that said if it happens on Thanksgiving day, we didn't know to hold that against us. I said, let's all get together on Thanksgiving. Nobody wanted to do it.
Eddie
No, I was behind you too, man. Kevin and Casey and Reed didn't want to do it.
Bobby Bones
I was bringing the turkey.
Justin Jefferson
Eddie said he was cooking.
Bobby Bones
So anyway, that's what's up. We're happy to get an episode up because we got some really cool stuff we're doing here and talking about, but we recorded this like not on Thursday afternoon, on Wednesday afternoon. So don't, don't hold it against us. Do you want to predict the winners of the Thanksgiving game that happened yesterday?
Eddie
Yes.
Bobby Bones
Bears and lions. Lions a 10 point favorite. The Lions won, but it was weird to see Caleb Williams aggress. I mean, he had. It was bad.
Eddie
I know, man.
Bobby Bones
After a couple of good games.
Eddie
Good. Yeah, yeah, I agree. But the Lions looking strong again, man.
Justin Jefferson
They.
Eddie
They're unbeatable, right?
Bobby Bones
And they played in leather helmets, which I thought when they came out, I thought it was weird.
Eddie
It was the Lions versus the monsters of the Midwest.
Bobby Bones
Thought it was weird. But they did it and they won it. Giants at Cowboys. Now the Cowboys went into this a four point favorite. Eddie, what was your favorite part of the game?
Eddie
The Cowboys winning, dude. I mean, it's just, you know, two wins in a row. Like what happened? Are we going to make the playoffs now? Doubtful.
Bobby Bones
Okay, now there's fantasies and there's super fantasy, but he just went into super fantasy there.
Eddie
But then I went real again. It's very doubtful.
Bobby Bones
No, but it really is not. Isn't. It's a no.
Eddie
It is a no.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. It's not a doubtful.
Eddie
Well, no. If they win Every game from here on out. It's definitely possible.
Bobby Bones
Okay. You're not even a fan. We've already had this.
Justin Jefferson
You already gave up on them.
Eddie
Yeah, right.
Bobby Bones
Packers, Dolphins.
Doug Gottlieb
Great game.
Justin Jefferson
Best game of the day.
Bobby Bones
That was good. Yeah. It was crazy to see Roger suit up for the packers again all of a sudden.
Justin Jefferson
That was when he came out in the smoke.
Bobby Bones
Didn't expect it. Yeah, didn't expect it. But, yeah, good. Packers victory there.
Eddie
Yeah. Did you know that Vince Lombardi lived right in one of those houses right by the stadium when he coached?
Bobby Bones
I did not know that.
Eddie
I don't know what. I think it came out, like, on Sunday Night Football or something.
Justin Jefferson
Really?
Eddie
They had. And after games, he would throw parties at his house, like, literally right across from the parking lot.
Bobby Bones
Legend.
Justin Jefferson
That'd be cool.
Bobby Bones
Anyway, I guess I'm not. I'm trying to think how I'm, like, processing it. I guess I'm not surprised.
Eddie
I.
Bobby Bones
That's not one of those facts. You're like, wow. But you're also like, huh. How about that?
Eddie
Well, I just. You know, they show the stadium, and then they show the little houses that are right across the street, and people park in the yards and everything. And I never thought much about it, but now it's like, wow. Head coach. Probably some players live there. And you just walk to work every day. Pretty cool.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I think that's mildly cool.
Eddie
Yeah, that's about it.
Bobby Bones
Games tonight. Chiefs and Raiders. Chiefs should run that one. Yeah. So we can do college football, which is a little more entertaining because there are a bunch of rivalry games that actually could matter. I mean, the point spreads are gigantics. Like, Boise State's gonna kill Oregon State.
Justin Jefferson
That just happened. It's Friday games.
Kevin
Oh.
Justin Jefferson
I was like, the schedule's all weird.
Bobby Bones
I was like, it didn't just happen because I don't know the score.
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
So we have to guess that one. Nah. Alabama, Auburn. It doesn't matter anymore, does it?
Eddie
It doesn't matter.
Bobby Bones
Usc, Notre Dame's. Interesting. When does that game happen?
Justin Jefferson
That's Saturday.
Bobby Bones
Okay, I'm done.
Eddie
They are rivals.
Bobby Bones
We're not doing that.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
I'm not guessing what day's games are.
Justin Jefferson
Yes.
Eddie
All of them.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. No, I just expect there to be a bit of Mayh. That happens. So, anyway, we got a good show here. We're gonna. Let's go to our interview first to Greg Rosenthal, because this will make the most sense. So. He's awesome. He's been working the NFL since 2012. He's had numerous shows, including the One he hosts now called NFL Daily Podcast. It's a great NFL podcast. You can download it wherever you listen to podcasts. If you listen to us and you're like, I get all my NFL information from 25 whistles, don't go. Check out Greg Rosenthal.
Eddie
We don't recommend that.
Bobby Bones
Yes, you can follow him on Twitter GregRosenthal. Here he is, Greg Rosenthal. Hey, Greg, first off, Saquon, is he the MVP right now?
Doug Gottlieb
No, I wouldn't. I wouldn't mind if someone voted for him, but we got, what, six, seven weeks left of the season? I would still go Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen, but he would be in my top three. You got to do a top five now. He would be number three on my list.
Bobby Bones
So you would go right now. Say it again. Josh Allen, 2, Lamar Jackson, 1. Saquon at 3 with a few games left. Is that what I heard?
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah. And it's more than a few games left. I've remembered so many of these MVP races. There was that year where Tom Brady was unanimous. With three weeks left of the season, everyone was like his mom, Michael Vick, the mvp. Now after one good game, and it tends to really start at Thanksgiving, I think, when people really nail it down. If Saquon keeps us up, he is right in the mix. But I would probably take a quarterback playing at a super high level, which I think Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have done over Saquon Barkley. If it was last year where we were kind of searching for an mvp, I think Saquon would be in a better shot.
Bobby Bones
No, I think you nailed it, too, because one of our friends was like, bet a thousand bucks on Dak to be the mvp, and I did. And then Dak wasn't the mvp, and he flamed out last year. And I'm still angry, angry at that thousand bucks. I bet on that one. So, yeah, I felt that. Talk about the Eagles, because ever since he shaved his head, they've won eight in a row. Are the Eagles for real?
Doug Gottlieb
They are. And I was worried because I don't know if you noticed this, but he kind of took it back again before the Sunday night game against the Rams. He got it trimmed up, and I just thought, don't. Don't mess with what's working. You had that. You had that, like, hospital look that he went with, but it still worked. He always does something goofy, like the way they ended that first half, and yet they're just so talented on both fronts. I. That's what I look for at the beginning of the season. Who's good on the offensive line and the defensive line. And you can kind of find maybe who are going to be the surprising teams. I think Denver is. One reason they've been so good this year is because of that. And right now, Philadelphia I think is number one. If you just combine offensive line, defensive line, they're the best in the league.
Bobby Bones
You bring up Denver. I'm a big Bo Nicks guy. Early on, even when he sucked, I was like, man, he sucks, but he sucks hard. Meaning, like, he went for it constantly. When he was terrible, he was terrible, But I love that about him. And now Bo Nexus. Come on. Where Jayden Daniels. Daniels probably. Rib still a little banged up. They haven't won. Is Jaden Daniels still the rookie of the Year right now, in your mind?
Doug Gottlieb
Yes, and I actually don't think it's that close. Bo Nick has played awesome. He's in a great spot. His coach is getting open receivers for him. And if he keeps this up and Jaden Daniels keeps playing worse, then yes, by the end of the season. But at this point, we've only played 11 or 12 weeks. In the first six weeks of the season, I think Jaden Daniels could have been the mvp. So to me, that weighs heavy enough that Bo Nicks, who started slow, hasn't caught up to him yet. But if it continues like this, I'm not giving Jaden Daniels that rib excuse. Cause I just think we struggle in the media to talk about that. After the rib injury, he played two really good games. And then yesterday people probably would've blamed it on the rib. But then he made a lot of great plays in the fourth quarter. So, like, was the rib not hurting then? I don't really know. All we can evaluate is what we see. And he hasn't been playing as well lately. But I think that lead he built up in the beginning of the season is still enough for him to be the Rookie of the year.
Bobby Bones
You know a lot more than me. You're very much an insider. However, I've had the theory all year that the commander sometimes will just look in the mirror and they're reminded of the commanders, so eventually they would suck again. Thoughts?
Doug Gottlieb
I hate to think that's true. Maybe it's just the other teams are looking at the plays that they run and say, oh, this is Cliff Kingsbury's offense. It's the exact same as. As week two, as week three even. You saw in that Cowboys game, they weren't adjusting to this blitz that Michael Parsons was running over and over in this game. And that's coaching. So I think that might of the problem of what they see in the mirror is Cliff Kingsbury and we've seen.
Bobby Bones
Over, I don't know, the last 10 years. Regardless of where Cliff is, it always seems like the second half of the season Cliff falls off a cliff. Like what is even happening there? What, what are they finding? Figuring out, scheming about Cliff that. That he can't figure out.
Doug Gottlieb
I think it's about adjustments. Compared to other NFL offenses, they're certainly static. Like they don't get Terry McLaren open. They do a few things and they do them really well and they tend to be really well coached at it coming into the season. But once other teams figure out what they're doing, they don't seem to have a plan B. And I think that's what's happened. If you watch that game against Dallas, who was not playing great defense going into that game, there were not many open receivers and that's what I've seen with Jaden Daniels. He's a guy who needs to see it to throw it sometimes. And he had open receivers early in the season and he just not has not seen him lately.
Bobby Bones
We've talked about Jaden Daniels a bunch. I want to bring up one more thing because early in the year it was. Well, they're running very much a college offense for Jaden Daniels to. They're integrating that. Integrating the NFL style into his game a bit. Is it possible that they have decided to go more NFL complex and he's struggling with that?
Doug Gottlieb
No, I don't think so. If anything it's more that they need to do that. I think what they did early in the season was rely a lot on the screen game and the short passes and these manufactured throws. And I don't even know if that's college or how the NFL is now. Miami runs a lot of plays like that too, but you need to be able to hit the intermediate and the deeper throws more often. There's not a lot of real drop back passing game and that hasn't been developed. I want to see more of that if anything because I think Jayden Daniels can handle it. He's an older starter like Bo Nicks for a rookie, but right now he's not seeing a lot of open receivers.
Bobby Bones
When you talk about older starters, that's kind of funny. I was reading the Anthony Richardson thing where Anthony Richardson is like 12 and everybody else, even some of the college guys are like older than Anthony Richardson is now and you know he's played a little better with the Colts after he got benched. What are your feelings on Anthony Richards long term success?
Doug Gottlieb
I think he's going to be okay. He's going to be boomer bust. In a best case scenario he's a Cam Newton type. Can he get there consistently enough as a passer? He just loves to throw the ball downfield. I think he will. I think he's going to be a fun long term quarterback. I would take Drake May over him though. I would take Jaden Daniels over him. I just feel like they have a stronger base to work from.
Bobby Bones
You didn't say Caleb Williams I would throw.
Doug Gottlieb
I would definitely take Caleb Williams over him too who has looked incredible the last two weeks. I feel like that's sort of gotten lost in the shuffle. I thought it was his best game as a pro last two weeks ago and then it was even better on Sunday. It's almost perfect for Bears fans. I think if you're a Bears fan you want Caleb Williams to look like this so you feel better about your pick but you also want to get Matt Eberflu is fired. So I feel like these two games have been perfect. If you're a Bears fan.
Bobby Bones
Did you feel too that at times when Caleb Williams was really playing well the last couple of weeks he was getting rid of the ball quickly and the times he would get in trouble, it seemed to me like when he was trying to create again these Caleb Williams type plays and that would result in a big sack he shouldn't take. Is that still a bit of the struggle in what he's doing day to day?
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, you saw it in the overtime sack that he took which was a bit of a disaster. Then again he had that throw to Swift where he evades the rushers and makes just a ridiculous Patrick Mahomes type of throw for a 40 yard play down the sideline. But I think, I think you're right. Overall in that game the best throws that he had were in rhythm getting the ball out quickly. I thought it was the throw he made with 20 seconds left after they recovered the onside kick to get them into field goal range. From the original view it looked like a good throw, but when you see the All 22, how he had to layer it over the top of the linebackers but in front of the safeties but with some real pop on his throw like that is a number one overall pick type of throw.
Bobby Bones
Let's talk about New York. I don't know who would you rather be, the jets or the Giants?
Doug Gottlieb
I'd rather be the Giants just because it's tough. I lived in New York for 10 years. They were bad for most of that, although you had the Eli pop up and they've been as bad as the Jets. But I do feel like it's a more stable building ultimately. You read some of the reports that have come out about the jets and that just seems like it's doomed to keep failing over and over and over again.
Bobby Bones
What do they do at quarterback? Both. And so I can ask individually. So let's go with the jets first. What, what are they going to do?
Doug Gottlieb
I think they cut Aaron Rodgers if they can't find a trade partner for him. It's clear that ownership is not on board with Rogers and the coaching staff is going to be totally different. So I. He could probably get a job next year, but you're going to draft someone and you're going to find some second tier quarterback to kind of hold it down. In the meantime, the Giants are all in on this draf. I mean they don't have anyone on the roster. I think that's got to be a quarterback for them a year from now. Unless Tommy DeVito is number two or number three and they're checking that out right now. And it did not look good on Sunday.
Bobby Bones
Is it time to give up on the 49ers for this season?
Doug Gottlieb
I think so. I think, I think that was one of the biggest takeaways from Sunday. First of all, we got to see what's up with Brock Purdy's shoulder. When you get a second mri. It's late in the week. They thought he might play early in the week, then he didn't. That says to me that it, it could be a longer term issue. They have the Bills this week. If they lose that, they're five and seven. I know it's not a good division, but they're just missing a lot. Not just in terms of injuries, but I think they were going to struggle to make the playoffs, be right about on the borderline even if they were healthy and if Purdy misses one or two games, you're not going to win any games without Brock Purdy. With the schedule that they have.
Bobby Bones
When Terrell Owens was talking about Debo and he was like, debo's too distracted by off the field issues. When Terrell Owens is saying that, is that, is that significant or is just to just talking, he probably knows something.
Doug Gottlieb
I don't, I don't know what he's talking about when he speaks about that. I, I'm not glad that Tio said That, but I have noticed Debo Samuel is not a difference maker that he used to be. He's just not as explosive as a runner. You can just look at his rushing stats. It's a great indicator because they used to use him in the running game and he would be a nice change of pace now he's one of the least effective runners in the league and I think that speaks to him not making a ton of plays on his own. Still a good player, but not a premier player. And I think he's going to get traded in the off season. He will absolutely have a market. What that is, whether that's a second round pick, something like that, we'll see. But I do not expect him to be on the 49ers next year.
Bobby Bones
The Lions, the clear cut team, number one in the NFL in your mind.
Doug Gottlieb
I would say the Eagles and the Bills and certainly the Chiefs, you got to throw in there are in the mix. But when I watch Detroit every week, it's crazy. They can just beat you so many different ways. On Sunday they beat you by running on third and log. I mean, they hit three different third and long runs for first downs on drives that quickly turned into touchdowns. Just no, no other team has that pitch. You know what I mean?
Bobby Bones
We stopped talking about Aidan Hutchinson because they keep winning, right? So, you know, for a while it was what are they going to do? Are they going to go after Max Crosby? All these dream scenarios, right, that people just, we just like to talk about it because it's fun. But I feel like their offense is so effective that possibly they can take the hit on not having that on defense and still feel like they can win games.
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, I think they could win the super bowl without Aidan Hutchinson. They are hopeful maybe he'd come back for the super bowl if they got that far. I do think when they play the best of the best teams in the off in the offensive lines that they have. I'm thinking about Philadelphia, I'm thinking about Buffalo and certainly if the Chiefs make the super bowl, that's going to be difficult because I don't think their pass rush has been great this year. But the difference, Bobby, is that I think their defense has improved dramatically from last year to this year despite losing Hutchinson. Just the rest of the group is so much better, especially in the secondary. They're one of the best defensive backfields in the league and they were one of the worst a year ago. So can they still be a top 10 to 12 defense? I would say yes. And if you have the best offense in the league. You can win the super bowl that way. But it would really help to have Hutchinson back, especially for that Philadelphia matchup. You're not going to get any pressure on. Jalen hurts without him.
Bobby Bones
How would you describe the regression of the Texans?
Doug Gottlieb
Really disappointing. I. I actually think their offense has been consistent this year, like consistently bad. I've just been waiting and waiting. My son became a Texans fan for some reason. I live in Los Angeles, but He just likes C.J. stroud so much. He jumped on board and he's dying each and every week. And I've said from the beginning, I just said eventually they might turn around, but they just don't look like a good offense. You look at their efficiency metrics, they're 25th, 26th, they're down there with some of the worst teams in the league. They have a good defense overall, but at a certain point, you kind of are the team that you show yourself to be. It's offensive line, it's really bad run blocking. You have talented players in Nico Collins and Mixon. But CJ Stroud, I'm as shocked about him regressing and losing confidence and being in his own head as I am about literally anything that's happened in the NFL. I'm stunned because I would have said about six weeks ago, if you can give me a quarterback to start my team with. CJ Stroud is very close to the top of the list, and right now he's just going through some growing pains.
Bobby Bones
If we're flipping that over to quarterbacks who are gaining confidence, would you say that you have liked what you've seen from Bryce Young over the past couple weeks since he's back?
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, absolutely. We actually had a conversation NFL Daily, one of our reporters with Vance Joseph after that Broncos Panthers game. And I and I watched that one, I thought, wow, Bryce Young is being more aggressive. That was his first game after Dalton got hurt in the car accident, and he just looked like a different player. Maybe he had nothing to lose, maybe just was more confident in what he was seeing and the numbers weren't quite there. And then each week he's stacked up to the point where now, if he continues playing like this, and he played really well on Sunday against Chiefs, there's no question they will go into next year with him as their quarterback, which I just didn't expect. And he's starting to look like a valuable NFL quarterback now. Whether the ceiling for him is Alex Smith or it's something higher, we need to find out. But it's a really Good development story for them considering where he was at early this season.
Bobby Bones
If you were a starting quarterback, would you rather play for the Panthers or the Jets?
Doug Gottlieb
The Panthers, yeah. Because they.
Eddie
Wow.
Doug Gottlieb
Really? Right. I mean, they have a young, energetic coach. They have a pretty good offensive line and a decent running game. And the jets, like, no matter what happens. I have so many friends that are jets fans and I used to live in New York. And no matter what happens, like, the rot just starts taking over. It's been 14 years, Bobby. The whole NF point of the NFL, my employer, is to even out the playing field so everyone gets to go to the playoffs. It's been 14 years.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. I feel that we have a Jets guy here on our show too, Bill Belichick. Does he coach next year? If so, where?
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, I don't have a great prediction. Jacksonville has been talked about. That makes sense to me about as much as anyone. I actually think Tampa Bay would be a really logical place if Todd Bowles didn't get them to the playoffs. The problem is I think that's an underrated team that has a really good offense, good offensive coordinator and has a chance to go on a run here with a very easy schedule. So I actually think they're going to end up with a winning record and probably get to the playoffs. That one would make a lot of sense based on the history and Jason Light being the GM who used to work with with Belichick back in the day.
Bobby Bones
What about the Dolphins? They're playing now 2. 2 is it? Can they make a late season push?
Doug Gottlieb
I think they can. They are. He is playing at a really high level right now and doing it in the way that people used to accuse him of doing. Just a lot of short stuff. It's really nothing down the field, but extremely effective, accurate. McDaniel said he went to a next level. This Thursday night Thanksgiving game is huge for them. They play the packers in Green Bay. It's all the demons that they've had. They don't close the season well. It's the cold weather. If they can win that game and they've won three straight, looking very impressive doing so. The rest of their schedule is easy. I think they'll be favored in every game the rest of the season. Their only game that's challenging is the Texans and that Texans team is taking on a lot of water. And other than that, it's a lot of jets and Patriots. And yeah, this team could win a lot of games. Your Broncos, if you're into Bo Nicks. I don't know if they'll lose enough though. That's the problem. Like you might need 11 wins to get into the AFC playoffs which is a is a big ass for that Miami team.
Bobby Bones
Do you think was to out in the Dolphins losing so much and again two has been scrutinized since before Mike McDaniels even got there. Then. Then he was a system quarterback but then Tua was out and they couldn't win. It didn't matter if Snoop it didn't matter who was in. But now that two is back again, if anybody could run the system well, anybody would have run the system and they were not able to. Now that Tua's back do you think that a bit some of the naysayers have to realize they possibly could have been wrong?
Doug Gottlieb
Yes. I think Tua has grown each and every year. This is what young quarterbacks do. I he is a much different player than he was two years ago, certainly three years ago. He's the best version and he's been in this offense now. I think it was terrible coaching, terrible front office work.
Bobby Bones
You.
Doug Gottlieb
You can't collapse to the worst offense in the league when you go to your backup especially when your backup had been in the building for three years. So that's on Mike McDaniel and Chris Greer if they don't make the playoffs. But it does show how valuable to it is. Maybe it wouldn't be that valuable for every team but for that team it's the difference between an 11 win team. I think this year 12 win team and one of the worst offenses in the NFL.
Bobby Bones
Three teams we're going to talk about. We're going to do Chiefs, we're going to do Vikings and I got a guy here that wants ask Cowboys and we'll do chiefs first 10 and one. Do you DeAndre Hopkins. You know we're in Nashville and you know DeAndre Hopkins here not much of a threat because no one could get him the ball. What is his ceiling? I mean could he be the guy that actually makes that offense happen? Because that offense really wasn't happening. Not that it is now so much either and they're really relying on their defense. But could he be a key factor into them actually winning three in a row?
Doug Gottlieb
Yes, because they just needed competent players that are quality starters. Now he doesn't help their biggest issue which is that they are slow and they are one of the slowest teams in the NFL when it's him and juju Smith Schuster and Justin Watson on the field and the in the tight ends like Noah Gray, their second tight end, is their most explosive player there. To me that is an issue. But he's, you know he's going to do it. He's going to make some red zone plays, he's going to have some key third down conversions and the numbers may not be crazy. They haven't been crazy. He's having a lot of games like 5 for 60. But I can just see him in big moments giving Patrick Mahomes a guy that he trusts in the red zone. I don't know if it's a difference between being a great offense and a bad one, but I don't know if they need to be great if their defense is playing well.
Bobby Bones
What about Worthy in Kansas City? I mean he's explosive, but is he only running one way? I mean it's just go he it.
Doug Gottlieb
Seems to be a mental thing. I at least was wrong about how he's going to be as a rookie. I thought he did more in college than people gave him credit for. But mentally you can tell they don't trust him and he makes a big mental error almost every week. So he's only playing 25 snaps and they try to manufacture things but it's not really working for him. It might be till year two that he makes a bigger impact.
Bobby Bones
I2 Vikings questions what's the ceiling for the Vikings? 9 and 2 now? How good can they be?
Doug Gottlieb
I know Vikings fans are so annoyed with everyone, just oh, that's nice, you're nine and two. I mean it is pretty impressive that they beat all the teams that they have to and they have a coaching staff that in any one game season, which the playoffs are, they can beat you with their game plans on both sides of the ball. It's a really good offense and Sam Darnold has played well the last couple of weeks. So they're dangerous. But are they dangerous enough to win three road games? No. Do I think they're going to win the division over the Lions? No. So they, it's, they're in a tough spot. If they were in any other division other than the, you know, AFC west with the Chiefs, they'd be winning it. But ultimately they're going to be the five or the six seed and that's going to be a tough road.
Bobby Bones
So then next season JJ McCarthy comes back, although he wasn't actually ever there except in like body because he didn't play. Sam Darnold had really shined. Like what happens in the quarterback room there?
Doug Gottlieb
Let's say it just continues as is. I think Sam Darnold gets a nice contract. It'd be hilarious, by the way, if it was the jets or the Giants for that matter. I think he gets a nice contract. A Geno Smith or Baker Mayfield type of bridge quarterback. You're not one of the top quarterbacks in the league, but you're somewhere in between. And we might draft a kid in the second round elsewhere because Minnesota's not going to pay that money. They're going to be all in on JJ McCarthy from everything I hear.
Bobby Bones
All right, we're going to go to our Cowboys guy and I'm sure he's going to have a couple. Just brace yourself. He is a diehard Cowboys fan. He is delusional. Eddie, whenever you're ready.
Eddie
What's up, Greg? You know. Yeah, like you said, I do love my Cowboys. Dallas Cowboys for life. Right? But is it time to hand off the Americas team title to someone else now?
Doug Gottlieb
Yes. I mean, it's been beyond time. What a, what a marketing ploy that was. I don't. I think NFL films actually called them that way back in the day. They do. They do get the numbers, though. That's. That's the problem. Like people don't want to hear about it. It's the reason why first take talks about them so much or they're on network so much. And it's true. People really do watch them. I did see something, though. I didn't listen to it yet, but I was looking at my podcast feed this morning. I saw Bill Simmons. It was like, is Dallas back? It's like, no, they're definitely not back now. They might beat the Giants. I thought that's what you were going to ask me. Are they back? Defense is playing a little better though. I'll give him credit to get. Have a nice win on.
Eddie
But I will ask you though, about the coaching situation. Like McCarthy is done, right? And then what do we, what do we do now?
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, it's not going to be Belichick. There's no way that Jerry Jones, I think, would want to give up that much power. And I don't think Belichick would want to be anywhere where he didn't have the power. So if they're smart, they'll pay top dollar for the best candidate out there, who I think is Ben Johnson with the Detroit Lions. I mean it. Like, show us Jerry. You get. You got Jerry World. You're collecting all that money for those tours that are coming around. Like, spend it. Because Ben Johnson, I think is going to make more money for a first time head coach than anyone we've ever seen. Because the bidding war for him, I think Cincinnati, if they don't make the playoffs, they're not going to get into a bidding war. But that would be an interesting spot. If I'm Ben Johnson, I want a really good quarterback and I think he could be intrigued about coaching Dak Prescott.
Bobby Bones
Who do the Cowboys draft? Let's say they have a top seven or eight pick. Who are they drafting?
Doug Gottlieb
Oh, man.
Bobby Bones
Is it best available for them?
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah, there's actually not a lot of positions that they couldn't use help. And if they hadn't given Dak that contract, you'd even think quarterback would be possible. But this isn't the draft for it. There's some good tackles in this draft. They're certainly good defensive players. I don't know if there's a wide receiver that, that you would take that high. So it's almost best available there. I mean, what position on that roster couldn't use some help? It's not. It's not a deep roster. It's a very top heavy roster with seven or eight really good players. But offensive line, especially this year, has been quite disappointing.
Bobby Bones
You guys check out Greg's podcast. It's great. And listen NFL Daily podcast wherever you listen and on YouTube. Check it out on YouTube. You did a whole thing where the Seahawks and like the Seahawks have kind of saved their season, but what's the ceiling on the Seahawks?
Doug Gottlieb
I think winning a playoff game, winning this division at this point, I would be surprised if the division winner is not the Seahawks or the Cardinals. And I think that Commander's loss on Sunday pointed out that that last wild card spot that we kind of were just penciling in for for Washington, that that division gets two teams in, it could be the Bucks or the Falcons or it could be second place in the NFC West. So this defense is really turned around. I think they have enough talent. Mike McDonald has them playing well and he can scheme it up. I mean, he sent some crazy blitzes out there. You have a quarterback that I really trust in, Geno Smith and the talent around him. It's not a good offensive line, so they're not a complete team, but I think they can get the three seed or maybe if the Cardinals win that division, get the seven seed and be a tough out. To me, the NFC is very much Philadelphia, Detroit and everyone else. The other teams are fun, but I don't really see them going to the Super Bowl. I think it's going to be Detroit or Phillies.
Bobby Bones
Check out. We'll put All Greg's information, including you can go watch his podcast down in our notes. We mentioned it before you came on as well. And follow him on Twitter at Greg Rosenthal. Greg, you're the best. We really appreciate the time. Hope you have a good rest of the week.
Doug Gottlieb
Appreciate it, Bobby. Anytime.
Bobby Bones
See you, Greg. All right, let's build the parlay here. Last week we went over four. I thought it'd be fun if we could pick all losers instead of all winners, but it'd be the same thing. We just wouldn't do it. Yeah. So let's just pick three. And I don't care if it gets up on the app because it's just humiliating when we lose over again. So, Eddie, do you already have a game, or do you want me to pick all three?
Eddie
No, I mean, I have the Notre Dame. I do believe Notre Dame will win that game. It just like right now, the spread is at.
Justin Jefferson
It's only like six and a half.
Eddie
Is six and a half. And I think that's good, but I think that's going to move at some point. So get on it asap.
Bobby Bones
But they can't asap because this is a day later. You can't.
Eddie
Well, as soon as you hear this, get on it. Notre Dame six minus six.
Bobby Bones
I'm just going to hit one without you guys because I'm ready. Tennessee -11 at Vanderbilt. We like Vanderbilt, but Tennessee's playing not to get in the SEC Championship game. They're just playing to get in the College Football Playoff, which is kind of the best place to be. They win this game, they're in. So it's not even a moneyline bet. Tennessee minus 11. Boom. Book it. I'm also going South Carolina. Money line. Now South Carolina is getting plus two and a half. Ah, screw it. South Carolina plus two and I will take the points. Why make it even harder myself? I would have picked South Carolina to win. Why make it even harder on myself? So we're going South Carolina plus two and a half. Take that one and go. I really want to. I really want the Texas. Texas A and M game. Like I'm. But I can't let my bias. I feel my bias clouding in.
Justin Jefferson
Don't do it.
Eddie
You want to go A and M.
Bobby Bones
Well, I want A and M to win. Yeah, I'm going A and M plus five and a half.
Eddie
Let's go.
Bobby Bones
I'm letting the bias cloud. They're playing at Kyle Field.
Eddie
Yes. Huge rivalry has happened in a lot of. A lot of years.
Bobby Bones
We're not like a hundred not. Not like since he was living outside the stadium of Green Bay.
Eddie
I think they said Justin Tucker was kicking when the last time they played.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I remember that. I think he made the kick to win the game. He did. Yeah. I think we run Austin.
Eddie
Gosh, that's crazy. Oh, that's right, because I saw him in the parade.
Bobby Bones
I'm taking Texas A and M plus five and a half. There you go. I can't rely on you guys anymore. Also can't rely on me because I've missed every week too, right?
Eddie
Well, hey, it's all on you now.

With millions of books on Amazon, there's a reading feeling for everyone. For example, Olivia's after learning she has quite a lot in common with a 9th century Viking is different to Luna's after the old man narrowly escaped being bitten by zombies. Which is also different to Jerome's his eureka moment on finding the perfect new quote for his dating profile. From to to Amazon books, that reading feeling awaits.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so here's the thing again. We did this before Thanksgiving. So if any of our quarterbacks are not starting anymore, what do you think? Mostly were there. Forgive us, but we did the worst quarterback draft, meaning if we had to draft the best quarterbacks, we'd go Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson. But instead we drafted the worst and tried to make the worst quarterback team. So here is this mean segment.
Eddie
Yeah, I felt bad after we did that segment.
Bobby Bones
Oh, you did?
Eddie
Yeah, just a little bit.
Bobby Bones
I liked it. Yeah, they're millionaires. I don't care. We're going to do a reverse draft, meaning you're going to draft the absolute worst starting quarterback.
Eddie
Oh.
Bobby Bones
So the first round pick will be the of every starting quarterback. We have every team listed. Who you would want the least? Okay. We'll do four rounds and then we'll put a little graphic up on Instagram, Bobby Bone sports and see who people think has the worst team. And we'll do Snake. So somebody can volunteer to go first or I can go first. Since we're going to do Snake. It's going to even itself out.
Justin Jefferson
Let's do it.
Bobby Bones
Eddie.
Eddie
This is interesting. I'll go first.
Bobby Bones
Go ahead.
Eddie
For the first pick of the worst quarterback team.
Bobby Bones
Worst starting quarterback.
Eddie
Worst starting quarterback team.
Bobby Bones
Go ahead.
Eddie
I'm going to go with Will Levis.
Bobby Bones
He is terrible. Good, bad pick.
Justin Jefferson
Thank you.
Kevin
Thank you.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Okay. So I'll be second here. Oh, it's tough for the second overall pick.
Eddie
The commissioners out there.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to go Tommy DeVito. Dang.
Doug Gottlieb
Who probably.
Bobby Bones
He probably shouldn't even be starting. He should be the backup because he. I felt like he was the third string quarterback. But I'm taking Tommy DeVito as the second overall worst quarterback. Kevin.
Doug Gottlieb
Dang.
Justin Jefferson
I was going to trade up and try to get Tommy from You.
Bobby Bones
Because Drew Lock, I think, is a better quarterback than DeVito. It's a better story, though. And I don't think they want to win. I think they want the bad draft pick. Yeah, go ahead.
Justin Jefferson
Okay. Now, for the sake of this, are we going to go with Trevor Lawrence or Mack Jones?
Bobby Bones
Trevor Lawrence is the starter.
Mike Distro
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Because unless he's out the whole year.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, that's fair. Okay, then. Sorry, Eddie. I got to do it. Going with your boy Cooper Rush.
Eddie
It's a smart pick.
Bobby Bones
That's a smart pick.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I don't even think Eddie hates that one.
Eddie
I don't.
Bobby Bones
Not your real quarterback.
Eddie
No, he's not. He's true. He's our backup, so. No, no, no offense, but. What?
Bobby Bones
I'd rather have Cooper Rush or Will Levis. I think I would have Cooper Rush, probably, but Cooper Rush is older. I don't know. That's a good pick. Okay, so, Snake draft. Now you go backward.
Justin Jefferson
Okay, Kevin, let's do this again.
Bobby Bones
Four rounds here. Yeah. So who is your next bad quarterback pick?
Justin Jefferson
Well, we all love him. Love his hair, love his style, love his stash. But I'm sorry, I got to do it to Gardner Minshew.
Bobby Bones
Good pick.
Eddie
I mean, he's usually a backup.
Bobby Bones
That's who I'd have taken. Yeah. Good season with the Colts, but also probably a product of his environment. Like the Raiders suck. Yeah. Just as an organization, they suck. So it's not like you're going to have great quarterback play out of a tweener anyway. Or if he went to a good organization, like, if he was playing with Kansas City, he'd probably be a pretty good quarterback. Like he was with the Colts when he was a pretty good quarterback.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Good pick, though. Okay, I'm going to go. Jameis. I like him. Big win over the Steelers. I do. I like him a lot. But I think of the remaining quarterbacks on the list, there's a. There's a reason he's a backup. Yeah, I'm going to go. Jameis Winston, Cleveland Browns, for my second round pick.
Eddie
Yeah, we're getting. We're getting to the point here where it's starting to. You're going to offend someone. I know this is tough, but for my second pick, I think I'm going to go with Bryce Young. You're not going to like it, Bones, but I think I'm going to take Bryce Young.
Bobby Bones
I hate that for you. He's going to be a star.
Eddie
No, I know, but right as of now, I have to put him where he Is.
Bobby Bones
I hear you. Oh, that hurts me. Got a lot of rookie cards. I'm sitting there.
Eddie
I know. I do, too.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Two rounds in Eddie Snake draft. So you'll go first this round, so you have the next pick.
Eddie
Okay. Dang.
Justin Jefferson
This is getting tough.
Eddie
This is getting really tough because overall.
Bobby Bones
We'Re each taking four quarterbacks, so that's 12. I mean, it's basically a third of the league. We have to pick a third of the league in this.
Eddie
I think he's going to be okay. He's showing improvement. But all the hype coming in with Caleb Williams, I think that I need to pick him because as of now, oh, my God.
Justin Jefferson
I'm the number one pick.
Bobby Bones
Wow.
Eddie
I'm gonna take Caleb Williams.
Bobby Bones
Wow. Look at the balls on that, dude. Wow. I'm talking about you.
Doug Gottlieb
Wow.
Eddie
Not. Not that hard. Guys.
Bobby Bones
I don't hate. Hate it. I just kind of hate it because there's a lot of potential there, and I think people hold that against you. I agree.
Eddie
But, dude, this. It's a rough spot right now. Cause you're dealing with quarterbacks that are okay, but you gotta pick the worst of the. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
That's why my next pick is going to be Russell Wilson. Wow. Ooh. He's not good. He's fine.
Eddie
It was snowy, dude.
Kevin
It was snow.
Justin Jefferson
It was snowy.
Bobby Bones
But just generally he's fine.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Eddie
And he's getting older.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And with what I have to deal with here.
Eddie
Yeah, that's good.
Bobby Bones
I think I take Russell Wilson as the next worst quarterback. Okay.
Justin Jefferson
All right. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Third round pick, Evan Pickens.
Justin Jefferson
Getting slim here.
Bobby Bones
I had to pick a Super bowl champion on a winning team.
Justin Jefferson
I was just going to say.
Bobby Bones
I know, I know, but I feel like. Anyway, go ahead.
Justin Jefferson
Okay, I'm going to go. Anthony Richardson got benched, brought back. There's a reason for it.
Eddie
Trevor Lawrence stayed alive.
Bobby Bones
He's still alive. Wow. We have one more round.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Eddie
Oh, we have another round.
Bobby Bones
Four round. So it's even for everybody. Dang.
Eddie
Okay, who?
Bobby Bones
Anthony Richardson may be a little too early for that one, but. I think so. But who would. Okay, Snake it.
Eddie
Snake it.
Justin Jefferson
All right, now we're going again.
Bobby Bones
One more round to go.
Justin Jefferson
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Are you taking pride that nobody's picked Drake May?
Justin Jefferson
Heck, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Being a Patriots fan, nobody's even touched.
Justin Jefferson
The AFC east in general.
Eddie
Well.
Bobby Bones
Well, not yet. Yeah, not yet. Oh, no, not yet.
Justin Jefferson
Oh, you're going with Drake, huh?
Eddie
Hey, I'm thinking about it.
Justin Jefferson
Tua.
Eddie
I'm thinking about it. No, not Tua.
Justin Jefferson
Okay.
Eddie
Talk to Him.
Justin Jefferson
Let's go with a guy that's gotten a lot of flack throughout his care career. A lot of up and down. Derek Carr.
Kevin
Oh, yeah.
Bobby Bones
That's a good pick. Solid pick. Solid, Terrible pick. This is so mean. It is. I mean, they make millions of dollars, and it's like they're not even real. That's like they're cartoon characters. They're not even real people.
Eddie
They're not listening. It's okay.
Bobby Bones
And also, like, we're not a hundredth of the athlete they are. And we're like, they suck.
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
Okay. My last pick, my fourth round pick for the worst quarterbacks.
Eddie
Are you between two?
Bobby Bones
I'm between. I don't even want to talk about who I'm between because I don't want to give it to you.
Eddie
Well, I have my two that I already have queued up.
Bobby Bones
I have two and a half queued up. Are your two. One in the AFC South?
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And one in the AFC East.
Doug Gottlieb
Yeah.
Eddie
We might have the same two. So whatever you take, whatever you don't take, I'm gonna take it.
Bobby Bones
I don't know that we're on the same page here, but I'm going Aaron Rodgers.
Eddie
Yeah. Yeah, we're on the same.
Bobby Bones
Okay, I'm gonna have to go Aaron Rodgers.
Justin Jefferson
Yep.
Eddie
It is crazy.
Bobby Bones
He sucks. They suck.
Eddie
Dude, you have two super bowl champs.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but they're also old.
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
So who.
Eddie
Oh, I'm left with Trevor Lawrence. Yeah. Get him out of here.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Eddie
I mean. I mean, welcome to my team. Trevor Lawrence.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You were last picked at being. Not the. The worst. So then let's look at who made. Who made it. Josh Allen, Tua and Drake May made it.
Justin Jefferson
That's right.
Bobby Bones
Relations. Lamar Burrow, Stroud Mahomes. Justin Herbert, Bo Nicks made it as a rookie. Jalen Hurts, Jaden Daniels, Jared Goff. Sam Darnold made it.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Look at that.
Eddie
He turned it around.
Bobby Bones
Redemption.
Justin Jefferson
Yep. Aaron Rodgers didn't. And Sam Darnold did. Wow.
Bobby Bones
Jordan Love, Kirk Cousins, Baker Mayfield. That's redemption. He had a good year last year, but I'm saying he's fought back for being the garbage can. Murray Stafford, Geno Smith and Brock Purdy.
Eddie
Kyler Murray, too.
Bobby Bones
Huh?
Eddie
Kyler Murray. Like, I think a lot of people wrote him off.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. With the Cardinals. Yeah. I just couldn't see him when he wrote him off. I just. I couldn't see everybody. I could see his head when he runs. Dude, he's so small.
Eddie
It's so funny to see.
Bobby Bones
It's like, maybe the colors have something to do with it. I don't know. Maybe it's their uniform, make them look smaller somehow.
Justin Jefferson
I think it's just him.
Eddie
Do you remember RBI baseball?
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Eddie
Like, you remember when you're the. The guy gets out. Like whenever he gets out, he runs back to the dugout. That's what he looks like to me.
Bobby Bones
Again, we're not near the end.
Justin Jefferson
No, no, no, no, no.
Bobby Bones
I don't think we're better than them in any way.
Eddie
Because you're fast, dude.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Eddie
You're fast.
Bobby Bones
It is. He's so little.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
In real life, what do you think he is? Five, five ten? Five eleven.
Eddie
Oh, I think.
Bobby Bones
I think he can't be five, nine. No, wait. No chance. He's five nine. He's gotta be taller than that.
Eddie
Are you sure?
Justin Jefferson
510? Max.
Bobby Bones
Really? Max. I never met him. Like we met Bryce Young, and I would say Bryce Young is 511 to 6 foot. I would say that.
Eddie
I. I think he was my height and I'm five eleven, six foot.
Bobby Bones
You're not six foot. Okay, then. Okay, fair.
Eddie
Yeah, man.
Bobby Bones
Make a deal here. Yes, you can be six foot.
Eddie
You're not giving that to me. The doctor gave that to me.
Bobby Bones
Just listen to ideal. This is what I'd like to suggest here. The question I'm going to ask you, and I would like your honest answer. Am I taller than you?
Eddie
Yes.
Bobby Bones
If you're six foot, you're six one. Okay. And my driver's license says six one. Am I legitimately six one? No. I'm probably like six foot and a half.
Eddie
There we go. Yeah, but so we're both right. Because you are taller than me. Can you.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to give you six foot if you give me six one. And I'm saying unilaterally, why can't you.
Eddie
Do six and a half?
Bobby Bones
Because that's stupid to say.
Justin Jefferson
That's dumb.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And my driver's license? If you're gonna use doctor, I can use driver's license. But this is. This is the pact we have to make right here and right now.
Eddie
No, but the doctor's office.
Bobby Bones
Wait, the doctor is legit, so it's his driver's license. No.
Eddie
You tell them what to put on there, they don't measure you.
Bobby Bones
My doctor doesn't measure me.
Eddie
What?
Bobby Bones
They'll do weights, a little thing. When they measure my height in years. Weight? Yes.
Justin Jefferson
When's the last time you took your height at the doctor?
Eddie
I mean, probably 10 years ago, but. What? I didn't get any Shorter grown. No, that's not true.
Bobby Bones
Let me say this. I like to present this one final time.
Eddie
Come on.
Bobby Bones
Not just here, but in life. I will protect you for being six foot tall. If you say six foot, you will not hear me raise my hand and go, no chance. I will not say that is not true. If somebody says, no way, I will fight for you. But you got to give me the same respect for 6:1. And if you want to make that deal, I will make it with you right now. But it's not just this room. It's every room for the rest of our lives.
Eddie
Okay? I can no longer say you're not six one.
Bobby Bones
Not just that, but if someone tells me, stop saying you're six one, be like, no, he's six one.
Eddie
Okay?
Justin Jefferson
You got to stick up for him.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Eddie
And vice versa.
Bobby Bones
We fight for each other. If it comes to it, you will say that. And this never gets addressed again either. Like, this is, like, fight. We don't even talk about this conversation anymore. It only lives on this podcast as proof that it happened. But we never mention it again. And if you're good with it, I'm good with it.
Eddie
But we are what we're saying we are.
Bobby Bones
As of today, you're not six foot tall.
Eddie
You are six one.
Bobby Bones
No, I'm not.
Eddie
Yes, you are. If.
Bobby Bones
But you didn't agree if you said if you lock it in.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, you never said yes.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, you never, like, officially locked it in.
Eddie
I mean, I feel like we're both going to benefit here.
Bobby Bones
All right, lock it in.
Eddie
Because I have no problem admitting that you're taller than me, so. Bones, I am going to lock it in.
Bobby Bones
And I'm locked in, too.
Justin Jefferson
Let's go. And I'm six four, guys.
Eddie
No.
Bobby Bones
No, you are not part of this. How tall are you?
Justin Jefferson
Six two.
Eddie
Legit.
Bobby Bones
No, I'm.
Justin Jefferson
I'm the same. It goes up an inch for all three of us. I'm like, six one and a quarter. Okay, I say six two.
Bobby Bones
You can say whatever you want. Okay, good. Good job on the game, guys.
Eddie

With millions of books on Amazon, there's a reading feeling for everyone. For example, Olivia's after learning she has quite a lot in common with a 9th century Viking is different to Luna's after the old man narrowly escaped being bitten by zombies. Which is also different to Jerome's. His Eureka moment on finding the perfect new quote for his dating profile. From to. To Amazon books. That reading feeling awaits.
Bobby Bones
Everybody pull up their TikToks. Okay, do a little experiment here. So don't open it yet, but just let me know that you all have it ready.
Eddie
I am ready.
Bobby Bones
We're going to go true algorithm test here.
Eddie
Oh, no. It was risky.
Bobby Bones
I know. So don't open. Don't open it. Don't be swiping out of anything. This is a true algorithm test. It's mostly to see how much sports. What sports. Yeah, and we'll do 10 swipes and we'll. And commercials don't count.
Justin Jefferson
I might be out of this one.
Bobby Bones
Why?
Justin Jefferson
I don't have Tick Tock.
Eddie
What are you talking about?
Bobby Bones
Wow.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
That'll just be Eddie and I. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. That's big news.
Justin Jefferson
I made an account, like, a long time ago, but I don't have. I'm literally downloading the app right now.
Eddie
Or Bones. Is he saying this because his algorithm Suck on some.
Bobby Bones
It's shady stuff like high school dancing girls and soccer.
Eddie
Could that be it?
Justin Jefferson
Tick Tock is my fantasy app.
Bobby Bones
Why you don't have Tick Tock, huh?
Justin Jefferson
No, I just try. I just. There's a lot of social media, and I like social media just as much as anybody else, but I also hate it just as much as anybody else, and I just try to keep my time as limited as possible.
Bobby Bones
Great. Super healthy. I think TikTok to me, is the most fun of all.
Eddie
It's the best.
Justin Jefferson
My girlfriend's all over it.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, it's. It's. It doesn't matter what you like. I'm not doing a commercial for it. But it doesn't matter what you like.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
There's a whole corner of your world there, Eddie. Me and you. Ten swipes.
Eddie
Let's go.
Bobby Bones
I'll open mine first. Look, mine's not open. By the way, there's no cheating here. Okay? Ten swipes. First up, when the only team. There's a bunch of kids walking down the hallway, they are in high school, looks like when the only team to make it to state is the varsity Fortnite team. Oh, that's funny. And it's a bunch of, like, nerd kids. Look like me in high school.
Eddie
Hilarious.
Bobby Bones
That's their state champion.
Eddie
And they're marching. Oh, wow.
Bobby Bones
They're having, like, a parade for their varsity State champion Fortnite team.
Justin Jefferson
That's good for them.
Bobby Bones
Does that count as sports?
Eddie
No, because it's someone making fun of their school.
Bobby Bones
But it probably, like, fed it to me for, like, state championship.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Eddie
Oh, interesting.
Bobby Bones
It doesn't have to be. I'm asking you guys. I count on sports of my 10.
Eddie
Yeah. Yes. Say yes. Because the state championship.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Okay then.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So this is not. This is movies because I follow Movie Mike or Mike Distro. So I get the movie stuff. Okay. So no next one up.
Eddie
This a dog talking.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, it's a. Yeah, it's a dog looking at food. Okay. That's one to three. It's commercial. I think yesterday was the first time I like, actually got. This is sports. This is from Barstool.
Eddie
It's a podcast.
Bobby Bones
It's a podcast.
Justin Jefferson
Okay.
Mike Distro
I loved to see it.
Bobby Bones
You were mad at that. So there you go. So that's Barstool.
Eddie
So far we got two sports.
Bobby Bones
Two or four?
Justin Jefferson
Two. Four. Nicaragua.
Bobby Bones
So I want to do a special in Nicaragua.
Eddie
That's the Obon.
Bobby Bones
Theo Vaughn.
Eddie
Yeah, not sports.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, not sports. Hold on.
Justin Jefferson
Dad is not Nicaraguan.
Doug Gottlieb
We might have to edit that out.
Bobby Bones
Dude, because that time. Closer. Okay. I'm in the market for a cowboy and I think Santa. Megan Moroni.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Bring me one Santa.
Eddie
We got a request. We're putting it.
Bobby Bones
So I'm two of six so far.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
It is day three of the Bryce DeChambeau challenge. Golf three.
Justin Jefferson
Seven.
Bobby Bones
That's 37.
Doug Gottlieb
This footage of Donald Trump that's now.
Bobby Bones
Leaking from Mar a Lago is something. That's not sports.
Eddie
That's sports.
Bobby Bones
3 of 8.
Doug Gottlieb
I'm flabbergasted that he slipped.
Bobby Bones
This is that Dawn Connect.
Justin Jefferson
Okay.
Doug Gottlieb
I can't believe that the heat passed on him at 15.
Bobby Bones
So four.
Justin Jefferson
Four of nine.
Bobby Bones
Four of nine. That's dorm, dude. Stream doesn't count.
Eddie
Dude.
Justin Jefferson
So half.
Eddie
You're 500.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I'm 500 in sports related algorithm feeds.
Eddie
Oh, you're going to beat me for sure. I. I bet you I get 2 out of 10 just because I'm so diverse, you know? There's gonna be some fishing in there.
Bobby Bones
Okay, well, that's. That'd be a sport.
Justin Jefferson
That's a sport.
Eddie
Oh, really? Yeah. So like a guy trying to catch an out.
Justin Jefferson
You can go to state for fortnight after. State for fishing.
Kevin
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Sponsor my school. State fishing.
Justin Jefferson
Yes.
Eddie
Let's go, baby.
Bobby Bones
I need to see though.
Eddie
Okay, here we go. I'm pulling it up.
Bobby Bones
Algorithm, algorithm challenge.
Eddie
Excuse me. First one. I don't know. Some guy.
Bobby Bones
0 for 1. Go ahead.
Eddie
That's an ad.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Eddie
That's shaboozy at CMA's.
Bobby Bones
Country music. No sports over two. No, we like it though.
Eddie
Commercial. Chanel. It's just a funny bit from Chevy Chase.
Bobby Bones
0 for 3 music and get to sleep.
Eddie
Oh, this is the guy from Minute Work.
Bobby Bones
It's amusing. He looks old. Yeah. Colin Hayes is named. Wow. I mean, he is old. We're all gonna get old. It's pretty good, though, man.
Eddie
So far, over four dorm dudes.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Hey. Okay, what's. What's the clip?
Eddie
Let's go. Portland fans were going wild after Yuki. I mean, a lot of Yuki.
Bobby Bones
Oh, from Memphis.
Eddie
Yuki for the Memphis kid.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Okay.
Justin Jefferson
Okay.
Eddie
I don't know, dude.
Bobby Bones
Okay. One for six.
Eddie
I don't know what that is. That's an ad. Some, like, home video for. I don't know. I don't know what this is.
Bobby Bones
One for seven. Oh, but.
Eddie
Oh, it's LeBron.
Bobby Bones
Oh, it.
Eddie
Jason Williams versus Randy Moss ad.
Bobby Bones
Okay, okay. Oh, that counts.
Eddie
That count.
Bobby Bones
Two for seven.
Eddie
Yeah, baby. Okay.
Bobby Bones
What is this?
Eddie
I don't know. Somebody playing guitar.
Bobby Bones
Flamingo.
Eddie
I don't know who that is.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Yeah, yeah, it looks like. I don't know. Too fright.
Eddie
I don't know what that is.
Bobby Bones
Two more left.
Eddie
Okay, two more. Here we go.
Bobby Bones
For following your dreams.
Eddie
That's an ad. A lot of ads.
Justin Jefferson
How is it?
Kevin
Solid. What's your name, bro?
Bobby Bones
What are you doing?
Eddie
It's espn. Guy had no clue he was chatting with Kyler Murray.
Bobby Bones
That's it.
Justin Jefferson
Okay.
Eddie
Go, baby.
Bobby Bones
All right.
Justin Jefferson
Three for nine.
Bobby Bones
He didn't know who the young child was talking to him.
Eddie
That's funny. Kids playing football.
Bobby Bones
It's okay. Podcast. That counts. Four okay. For 10.
Eddie
Not bad.
Justin Jefferson
That's pretty good.
Bobby Bones
That's pretty good. I mean, only one less than me.
Justin Jefferson
Two more than he thought that was risky.
Eddie
And no fishing. Fishing didn't. Didn't pop up there.
Bobby Bones
Maybe you don't like to fishing.
Eddie
No, man, I got a deep sea fishing air.
Justin Jefferson
Poser.
Bobby Bones
Dude, are you. Are you doing that 5k?
Eddie
Well, here's the thing. My family's coming into town. I got like, my mom's coming, my sister's coming, my brother's coming, and they're all coming for Thanksgiving. I'm thinking that'd be cool, you know, in the morning, Thanksgiving morning, we can all do the Turkey Trot. 5K. I Google it, look it up to register. It's $50 a person. There's six of us, plus them three. I mean, that's nine people. We're not going to pay $50. So it. Have you ever done this? You ever done the turkey trot?
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Eddie
Did you know you.
Bobby Bones
I did, I did. In Texas.
Eddie
Did you know you had to pay?
Bobby Bones
I signed up for it. I paid for it.
Eddie
Yeah. Is there any way we can just show up and just walk it? Yes.
Bobby Bones
They don't own the street.
Eddie
Yeah, but it's enclosed.
Bobby Bones
I think you can. It's a good question because, you know, I think. Yes. I think they can't keep you off the street.
Eddie
Maybe, maybe we. We do like three people and it's like 150 bucks. And whatever charity it goes to, we've donated 150 bucks. But then the rest of us just, you know.
Bobby Bones
You're not going to donate the money. Let's be honest. You're going to do it. You're not going to make the money to it.
Eddie
Well, if you tell me that I won't get caught, I mean, yeah, we'll all just walk up there.
Bobby Bones
I don't think anybody's going to enforce that. Mike, you're a runner. I don't know how much they enforce it for 5Ks, but for marathons, if you don't have a bib, there are people that look to find people who don't have bibs and make them get off the street.
Eddie
But I don't know about a five.
Bobby Bones
Marathon's much more serious. Yeah, it's more expensive, too.
Eddie
Everyone's dressed like a turkey. Like turkey.
Bobby Bones
See also the costumes.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
They're not gonna see the bib.
Eddie
So if I wear a costume, I can be like, yo, my bib's under here.
Bobby Bones
I don't think you even have to. What would be the integrity way to play this would be to pay for it. Okay.
Eddie
Yeah, but that's a lot of money.
Bobby Bones
I also understand that it's a lot of money. Why not do your own turkey trot around the neighborhood? Yeah, you could do that. That's integrity based.
Eddie
Yeah, but part of it's the vibe of everyone dressed like a.
Bobby Bones
So you want to experience what they paid for without having to pay for it. So you. I mean, that's really the question.
Eddie
I guess that's kind of it.
Bobby Bones
So a little less integrity play here is to do a partial sign up or a partial donation.
Eddie
So three of us sign up.
Bobby Bones
But do I think that you're going to get caught and like, run out of town? No.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
I think you'll be fine.
Eddie
Let me run about my mom, because my Wife and I were on board. I mean, she's just like, there's no way we can pay all that for everyone. So she's on board. And maybe sneaking in, my mom, I don't know. She. She gets embarrassed by that.
Bobby Bones
But it's not sneaking in. You're in public.
Eddie
But don't they have a route? Don't they kind of like, lock it up, Mike. Don't they kind of just, like, barricade?
Bobby Bones
They barricade. They can't barricade all the miles. It's like a starting line and an ending line, finish line. You could hop in a tenth of a mile into it and they would not know. That would cost a lot. They barricaded the whole thing. That'd be amazed. That'd be called amaze, actually.
Eddie
You're right.
Bobby Bones
They're not shutting it down for a 5K. Yeah.
Eddie
All right.
Bobby Bones
I think you could. Regardless. You can go do it. You and your family can go do it.
Eddie
Okay. We have your blessing.
Bobby Bones
No, I don't give my blessing unless you pay for it. Because it's for a charity, right? Yeah.
Eddie
Is it for a charity, Mike, or do they give that just to the people at the barricade costs?
Bobby Bones
It's usually a charity. Yeah.
Eddie
Okay. Maybe I donate to the charity, like.
Justin Jefferson
He is a lot, though.
Eddie
I thought It'd be like, $15 a person or something.
Bobby Bones
You definitely can do it without paying. You can, as in you. You'd be able to. No one's going to enforce a rule on you. If you feel good about that, you go for it.
Eddie
You guys want a turkey trot with us?
Bobby Bones
No, but if you finish and you're like, dang, you could then just go make a donation to the charity. That's not even the full price for all the people. That is a lot of money.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You can just go donate 100 bucks to whatever the charity is. And I think that would even be a move.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Because I think they'd rather have the hundred bucks and you come and cheat the system, then you not show up at all and then not get the 100 bucks.
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
Like, I think that's a win for the charity.
Eddie
Yes. Now, if I do get caught, do I tell them that no, I was planning on donating at the end?
Bobby Bones
The problem with getting caught is your kids are with you, and they're gonna see you lie.
Eddie
Correct. Correct. And kids watch everything we're doing.
Bobby Bones
So if you get caught, I would just run.
Doug Gottlieb
Yes.
Eddie
Run faster.
Bobby Bones
Run away.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You can't get caught in front of your kid. But I don't think anyone's gonna care enough to catch them. Right, Mike?
Eddie
No, I don't think so. Okay. Okay.
Bobby Bones
I think the move is because it is a bit unrealistic for you to pay nine times 50. Yeah, right. Nine people.
Eddie
59 people.
Bobby Bones
Do the math. Is how much money?
Eddie
I can't do that.
Bobby Bones
150 bucks.
Eddie
You may calculate 450.
Bobby Bones
Mm. That's 5. 45.
Eddie
How did you do that?
Bobby Bones
9 times 5 is 45. Add to zero.
Eddie
Got it.
Bobby Bones
I don't think that's any. I'm not sure would be the shortcut. How would you have done that?
Justin Jefferson
Same way.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Yeah. I think if it's for a charity, they would rather people that have massive families that cannot pay the 450 bucks to all still do it, but pay something better than getting nothing.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
That's my suggestion. Kevin.
Justin Jefferson
Yeah, that's probably your best bet.
Bobby Bones
No one's going to catch you. No one's going to call them out.
Justin Jefferson
No, they're not going to care that much. Especially if I, like Mike said, when.
Bobby Bones
They don't win the race, I'm not going to win. You can't finish, like, top 10, your age group or anything, then. That's trouble.
Eddie
Here, Here comes the leader. What does his bib say? He doesn't have a bib.
Bobby Bones
Just blend in.
Justin Jefferson
Blend in?
Bobby Bones
Yes. You can't win, so pull that. Well, go ahead. I'm sorry to interrupt.
Eddie
No, that's it.
Bobby Bones
That's it. Because if you're, like, on the Internet as one of the people, the winner.
Eddie
Of the turkey tribe or, like, top.
Bobby Bones
Five, you can't do any of that.
Eddie
And then the news, you know, interviews.
Bobby Bones
Okay. I think we're. I think we reached a good place here.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving. Hope you have a great few days of watching football. I got nothing else. Because we're just pretty much not even speculating games. Speculating if the games even happen.
Eddie
Right, Right. If we're safe, if we're even still alive.
Bobby Bones
I'm saying we might be dead right now.
Eddie
Right.
Bobby Bones
So that's weird.
Eddie
Of, like, bad turkey.
Bobby Bones
Oh, I don't think I die for them.
Justin Jefferson
We're not coming to your house, Eddie.
Bobby Bones
No, I don't think so. Are you. What are you doing for. Well, we already did it, so never mind. You want to know what I did? We already did Thanksgiving. Thank you, guys. We got Joey Logano coming on next week. We're pretty excited about that. And you guys hope you had a great holiday. We will see you on Monday. Bye, everybody. Eddie, blow the whistle. See you guys. Podcast Title: The Bobby Bones Show
Episode: 25W: Eddie Makes a Promise to Bobby + NFL Network's Gregg Rosenthal
Release Date: November 29, 2024
Host: Bobby Bones
Guest: Doug Gottlieb, NFL Analyst from NFL Network's Gregg Rosenthal
The episode kicks off with a brief moment addressing the Thanksgiving holiday and the unforeseen challenges in recording the podcast during the festive period. Bobby Bones humorously mentions the logistics of the recording session, ensuring listeners understand the timing and setting of the discussion.
"We actually recorded this Wednesday afternoon before we went to Thanksgiving."
[00:32] Bobby Bones
Bobby leads the conversation by reviewing the Thanksgiving Day NFL games, highlighting key performances and surprising outcomes.
Lions vs. Bears: The Detroit Lions emerged victorious against the Chicago Bears, defying expectations despite some questionable performances from Bears' quarterback Caleb Williams.
"The Lions won, but it was weird to see Caleb Williams aggress."
[03:34] Bobby Bones
Giants vs. Cowboys: The Dallas Cowboys secured a win over the New York Giants, continuing their recent form. Eddie expresses optimism yet doubts about the Cowboys' playoff prospects.
"The Cowboys winning, dude. I mean, it's just two wins in a row. Like what happened? Are we going to make the playoffs now? Doubtful."
[04:05] Eddie
Packers vs. Dolphins: The Green Bay Packers snagged a victory against the Miami Dolphins, with notable performances from their quarterback and an unexpected appearance by Packers' coach Matt LaFleur in a dramatic entrance.
"Roger suit up for the Packers again all of a sudden... They played in leather helmets, which I thought was weird."
[04:35] Bobby Bones
Bobby introduces Doug Gottlieb, a seasoned NFL analyst with over a decade of experience, to delve deeper into the season's developments and player performances.
Doug shares his insights on the current MVP contenders, placing Saquon Barkley in a competitive position alongside quarterbacks like Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen.
"If Saquon keeps us up, he is right in the mix. But I would probably take a quarterback playing at a super high level, which I think Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have done over Saquon Barkley."
[06:51] Doug Gottlieb
He further discusses the Philadelphia Eagles' impressive eight-game winning streak, attributing their success to a robust offensive and defensive line.
"If you just combine offensive line, defensive line, they're the best in the league."
[08:36] Doug Gottlieb
Doug critiques the Denver Broncos' quarterback situation, particularly focusing on Bo Nix and Jaden Daniels, emphasizing the need for adaptability in offensive strategies.
"Cliff Kingsbury and we've seen... compared to other NFL offenses, they're certainly static."
[10:25] Doug Gottlieb
He also evaluates the New York Giants and Jets, predicting potential changes in their quarterback lineups and coaching dynamics.
"I think they cut Aaron Rodgers if they can't find a trade partner for him."
[14:12] Doug Gottlieb
Doug assesses various teams' prospects, highlighting the Detroit Lions as a formidable contender due to their versatile gameplay.
"I think Detroit every week, it's crazy. They can just beat you so many different ways."
[16:44] Doug Gottlieb
He remains skeptical about the Houston Texans' offensive struggles, despite a solid defensive lineup.
"CJ Stroud is very close to the top of the list, and right now he's just going through some growing pains."
[18:22] Doug Gottlieb
The discussion pivots to the performance trajectories of various quarterbacks, including Anthony Richardson and Caleb Williams, assessing their long-term potential and current form.
"If you're a Bears fan you want Caleb Williams to look like this so you feel better about your pick."
[12:46] Doug Gottlieb
Doug also touches upon the New York Jets' and Giants' uncertain quarterback futures, predicting a possible arrival of Ben Johnson as a head coach for the Jets.
"I think Ben Johnson is going to make more money for a first-time head coach than anyone we've ever seen."
[27:55] Doug Gottlieb
In a playful yet competitive segment, Bobby and Eddie engage in a snake draft to select the worst starting quarterbacks, aiming to "hand off the America's team title" away from the Dallas Cowboys. They humorously discuss their picks, including Will Levis, Tommy DeVito, Gardner Minshew, and others.
"I'm going to go with Will Levis."
[36:36] Eddie
"I'm taking Tommy DeVito as the second overall worst quarterback."
[37:03] Bobby Bones
This segment adds a lighthearted twist to the episode, showcasing the hosts' camaraderie and sports banter.
The hosts incorporate engaging and humorous segments, such as the TikTok algorithm test, where they assess how sports-related content fares in their feeds. Additionally, they discuss the challenges of participating in events like the Turkey Trot.
"This is a true algorithm test. It's mostly to see how much sports."
[50:55] Bobby Bones
As the episode wraps up, Bobby Bones thanks the guests and listeners, hints at upcoming interviews with notable personalities like Joey Logano, and reiterates the importance of supporting local businesses and responsible gaming.
"Thank you for listening. I'm Bobby Bones. We'll talk to you next time here on 25 Whistles."
[63:32] Bobby Bones
