This is a podcast called 25 Whistles. Talking basketball.
Bobby Bones
And they all wear a whistle, yet stup.
Brandon Ray
What did you expect?
Bobby Bones
It's a podcast called 25 Whistles.
Eddie
25 Whistles.
Bobby Bones
Blow it, Eddie. We actually have the singer of the jingle, Brandon Ray, in studio with us. Wow, what a day. What a day. Wow. Did you know how popular you are in sport, in the sports world?
Damian Maldonado
I had no idea.
Bobby Bones
It's. Say it's Finding Sugarman.
Eddie
Yes. That's a great documentary.
Bobby Bones
The guy has no idea that he is super famous in South Africa. South Africa. Brandon, put the guitar down, dude.
Damian Maldonado
Hey, we get it, dude.
Eddie
We got it.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. That documentary, if you've not seen it, who has seen it? Brandon, you haven't seen it. I've heard. I've heard about it.
Damian Maldonado
I haven't seen it. I want to.
Bobby Bones
Dude, you have to watch. You especially have to watch it.
Eddie
The guy's name is Rodriguez, and, like, he made no money. He was pretty much homeless, had a music career, but it never amounted to anything. Turns out that somebody had taken his music and distributed all over South America. And he was wildly famous over there, and he had no idea.
Bobby Bones
It was like a burnt cd.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And caught on, they started to produce it, and then people, they were like. It was. It was so big. People were like, illegally producing it, saying it was somebody, and then we're going to spoil it. But he was wildly famous in another part of the world. So what we're telling you is, like, sports, people everywhere love you and you had no idea.
Kevin
That's.
Damian Maldonado
Hey, I'm honored.
Eddie
You're Sugarman.
Bobby Bones
You're Sugar Man.
Damian Maldonado
Hey, that's me, man.
Bobby Bones
Did you blow the whistle? I did. I did. Okay, a couple of things to talk about as we start this. This is getting loaded. Midnight as Friday morning starts. So at this point, I have already. This is Schrodinger's cat.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
If you guys are familiar with Schrodinger's Cat, Eddie, would you let. Why don't you let us know about Stringer's Cat?
Eddie
Oh, I don't know what that means, but I know what you're saying. I know exactly what you're trying to say, but I don't know what that means.
Bobby Bones
What do you mean?
Eddie
Schroeder. Is he the Peanuts guy?
Bobby Bones
No, you're thinking of Charles Schultz.
Eddie
No, I think Schroeder's like one of the characters on Charlie Brown.
Bobby Bones
No, Peanuts, though, is written by Charles Schultz. John. Yes.
Eddie
Who are you talking about?
Bobby Bones
Who are you talking. I know. I want to know more about where you're mine before I go to mine. I would like to know where your mind went.
Eddie
Schroeder. He was a character on Peanuts. So what'd you say? His cat. I don't.
Bobby Bones
What character in Peanuts are you talking?
Eddie
He might be the dirty one. Or is that Linus?
Damian Maldonado
Linus?
Bobby Bones
No, that's Pigpen.
Eddie
Look up Schroeder. Schroeder's one of the dudes.
Bobby Bones
He's the one who plays the piano.
Eddie
There we go.
Bobby Bones
Huh? Okay.
Eddie
But I have no idea what that has to do with what you're trying to say.
Bobby Bones
It doesn't. It has nothing. It's just not the same thing at all.
Eddie
Schroeder's the piano virtuoso guy. Okay.
Damian Maldonado
It's also not the right name that you're thinking of.
Bobby Bones
Right? Yeah. At all. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So thank you, Eddie. Charles Schultz, Schroeder, the player, all that. Not the same.
Eddie
Got it.
Bobby Bones
So I will. Schrodinger's cat is an experiment where there's a cat in a box, basically, and it's. And I won't even do the superposition thing, but the cat is both alive and dead until you open the box.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
There's poison in the box.
Eddie
Oh, dang.
Bobby Bones
Until you know the cat is both dead and alive. Is it really? No. But you don't know. So its fate is linked to the subatomic event, which is the poison. Does it spill and kill the cat? Or is it.
Eddie
Wow.
Bobby Bones
So my point is.
Eddie
That's deep.
Bobby Bones
No, just wait. I'll make it easier and worse. Arkansas's in that box right now.
Eddie
You have no idea.
Bobby Bones
The Razorbacks played. As you've heard this, the game is over. But they've both won and lost right now because they are still in the box to me as we record this. So.
Eddie
Gotcha.
Bobby Bones
They're the cat with the poison. The Arkansas Razorback basketball team. They're playing at 9 o'clock our time. So seven local in San Francisco, and they're playing Texas Tech. And that's the cat. And I hope to God that box is open when you hear this. The Cat's alive.
Eddie
What I like about you is you're a very realistic person. You know, like. Yeah. You're not at, like, oh, just because I want it to happen. This is what I believe. So what do you think is in the box? Truly?
Bobby Bones
I think we lose by five, we probably go down by 12 or 13, make a little run to get it within two or three, and they kind of close the deal. Win by four or five, six around in that, at the end. Yeah, that would be. Hey, pick a very specific situation, and if you're right, I'll give you money. That would be the situation that would. Pick. That doesn't mean I love them any less.
Eddie
Right, right.
Bobby Bones
Because I love nothing more. But that cat's dead. In my mind, that cat is dead. But it may very well be alive. It may be alive. And I can't wait saying this is what I was bringing up next. So if that cat's alive, and I'll say that next Monday and Tuesday, I'll be filling in for Rich Eisen, still doing the Bobby Bones show in the morning, but then I'm going to be filling in for Rich Eisen on his radio and TV show Monday and Tuesday, and that's in Los Angeles. But if. If the cat's alive at the end of the night on Thursday night. You hear this on Friday. They have a game on Saturday.
Eddie
Oh, dang. Where are they? San Francisco.
Bobby Bones
I may have to go see the alive cat. And now both Eddie and Reed are going with me, and we'd have to.
Eddie
I would love to see the alive cat.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. The question is, I mean, could you go? Eddie's got a family.
Eddie
That's a good question. I'd have to talk with the boss about that.
Bobby Bones
Cats. We don't know the cats. The cats.
Eddie
But who knows? It may not even need to be a conversation we need to have because we don't know if the cat's alive. But, dang, that'd be cool, man.
Damian Maldonado
You should present it like that to the boss.
Eddie
Listen, if the cats be like Schroeder.
Bobby Bones
Like Snoopy. Oh, my God. Woodstock. Okay. Snoopy.
Damian Maldonado
Just picture this.
Eddie
She's gonna be like, what?
Bobby Bones
So if the cat's alive.
Eddie
I hate this.
Bobby Bones
No, no, but here's also. I can. Also. There's a meet in the middle, which is nice.
Eddie
A little diamond Rio.
Bobby Bones
Possibly. Possibly. I can't even go. Depending. Probably I can. And we would fly. We'd fly out there private. But it'd be on a Saturday. But if you couldn't go, you would just. I Just fly Southwest on Sunday to la and that would kind of suck.
Damian Maldonado
But you're not used to flying.
Eddie
Yeah, I don't like flying Southwest.
Damian Maldonado
That's a big difference.
Eddie
You know that's my thing, right? Like I like saying that out loud in a Southwest flight and people and watch people go like, who's that douchebag?
Damian Maldonado
Yeah, that's what I remember with flying. Flying with you. You're like, oh, this never happens when I fly private.
Eddie
And somebody always turns around. Dang, dude, this. Ah, okay. Hey, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Bobby Bones
And I almost don't want to say it because of the jinx, but I think the cat outweighs the jinx. So I would love for Arkansas to win. Now that leads me to my next couple of things because I do have some things that specifically I wanted to talk about. And let me do this before I forget. Number one, Russell Wilson playing for the Giants.
Eddie
Yeah. Weird, right?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, yeah.
Eddie
I. Jameis Winston, Russell and Tommy Cutlets. You got, you got all of them.
Bobby Bones
It a weird but I think it's. They weren't a player away anyway.
Eddie
Yeah. But now like this whole thing with drafting a quarterback is probably out the window. Right.
Bobby Bones
But because I think they weren't a quarterback away, I think they can now trade down and be closer to being just a quarterback away.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So do you hate the Giants that you're a Jets guy?
Eddie
I'm not. No.
Kevin
I don't really hate the Giants.
Eddie
They had the, the awesome super bowl win over the Patriots in 07, so I was unnecessary.
Damian Maldonado
But thanks.
Bobby Bones
That. Yeah. Okay.
Kevin
So I have a little bit of.
Bobby Bones
Who do you hate more for that? Do you hate the Patriots more? The Giants more as the jets hats more? You do.
Damian Maldonado
Okay, that's fair.
Bobby Bones
Oh, I didn't know. Same city. I didn't know what the. Right.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
No, yeah.
Eddie
Because the Giants are more like Eagles and Cowboys.
Kevin
That's their big rivalries.
Bobby Bones
So AFC east, the Giants reached an agreement with super bowl winning quarterback. One year deal worth up to 21 million bucks. The 10 time Pro bowl selection has been in discussions with the Giants, the Browns and the Steelers. Hey, you know who is the real winner so far is Kenny Pickett because he goes to Cleveland. And then the day he goes to Cleveland, Russ is also in the building and he's like, oh, I thought I was getting a shot at this job. He wouldn't have got a shot at the job at Cleveland. Signed Russ. I think old small hands Pickett, whose hands are probably. Whose hands are probably Bigger than old. Poor guy. Think he has his shot to play even if they draft. What are they, two?
Eddie
They're two. Yeah. So door.
Bobby Bones
Even if they do take a quarterback, I still think he probably plays a lot because they suck. They did not. So it's interesting. That means probably to Aaron Rodgers, to the Steelers. Almost certainly. Yeah, almost certainly.
Eddie
Almost certainly.
Bobby Bones
Oh, man. But nothing is certain about Aaron Rodgers.
Eddie
Exactly. He's an enigma.
Bobby Bones
You know, I did see Stefan Diggs to the Patriots. Yeah.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah.
Eddie
I'm not going to be with his brother and.
Bobby Bones
Okay. That's why I remember because it affected both of you.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So Eddie, we thought you're a Cowboys guy, could go to the Cowboys.
Eddie
We want a little family together. That'd be great for team morale. But no, not going to happen.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah. And hey, for the Patriots, it's a love hate thing. At first I was like, that's a lot of money. But they can cut out after the first year. And I think it's 26 or 29 million guaranteed. Coming off the ACL, getting a little bit older. The only thing I'm concerned about is Drake May and the way that Stefan Diggs can kind of rub quarterbacks the wrong way. The last few years, I don't think he really had anything with CJ Stroud, but Josh Allen, it was pretty clear he wanted him out of there. You'd think, right? So we'll see how it goes. Three years, a lot of money, like I said. But if they can cut ties after one, if it doesn't go well, I'm happy with that.
Eddie
What does he talk crap about his quarterbacks? What does he do?
Bobby Bones
I think he's just a difficult person to play with. He diva esque and that's a diva esque position. Like you have to be to be good at it. Like that's part of it. But then there's kind of a line. But yeah, I think not the easiest to, to have a living relationship with.
Damian Maldonado
Because he's really good, really good. And at the end of the day I'm like, okay, well he's still better, way better than anybody that we have on the roster. So that's all I really care about.
Bobby Bones
So here we go, let's talk draft then. So Travis Hunter, you know, that was the guy. And if he does, was he going to play quarterback? Cornerback mostly and receiver. So does that signing, do you think that affects what the Pads are going to do?
Damian Maldonado
Yeah, I think they're going to go line, whether it's defense or offense. Probably offense. Especially still with vrabel no matter what, I think they'll go offensive line, whether it's a Campbell or under another kid because his arms are too short. So I don't think it affects it. No.
Bobby Bones
Do you think they move down because they.
Damian Maldonado
I hope they do.
Bobby Bones
Because if it's not Travis Hunter and they don't need a quarterback, why would you stay at three?
Damian Maldonado
Four.
Bobby Bones
Four?
Damian Maldonado
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Why would you stay at four?
Damian Maldonado
I agree.
Bobby Bones
Because any of those guys you want to get there, you can probably get 8, 10, 13.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
In that. In those spots.
Damian Maldonado
I'm right there with you. I hope that they do trade down. Somebody wants Hunter, moves up, gets another first round pick or a couple seconds, whatever it might be, and then grab an offensive lineman and then just kind of still build internally in the trenches, as they say, for Drake Knight.
Bobby Bones
One more thing and we have a lot to do today. But one more thing before I jump. I bet on Auburn to win the whole thing. I bet a thousand bucks on Auburn at the beginning of the tournament to win it all. They've been playing pretty consistent. Nobody's really picking Auburn now to win it all. They were the number one one seed based on their entire season. They're not the flashiest. Duke looks freaking awesome.
Eddie
They're just killing everybody that comes their way.
Bobby Bones
Duke, Houston. Houston to me. What's my analogy? Is it Schroeder this time or. Good question.
Eddie
It's not funny. Brandon.
Bobby Bones
Houston to me was C.J. stroud last year. And I'm going to make this analogy. CJ Stroud was killing it every week, but he was also rookie and people were like, well, rookies, eventually. Rookies suck and they're not going to win much in the playoffs. Houston is always good. Houston's good.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
But eventually the rookiness catches up with them every year. And Calvin Sampson is awesome, awesome as a coach, but I just never believe in them because I've never seen a rookie quarterback win a Super Bowl. You know why? Because it doesn't happen. I've never seen Houston win a national championship, even though they're freaking awesome. So I don't believe. I don't believe in them. I don't believe in Houston even though they are really freaking good. Florida. They're probably. If I could rebet at the team, I would re bet it on.
Eddie
Really?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, just. You wouldn't rebet it on Duke in every element? No, I don't hate Duke, but I would hate betting on Duke. That's.
Eddie
I mean, that's how I'm like with Arkansas. Like, even if I look at the game and be like, ah, they can't win this. I'll never bet that game.
Bobby Bones
But also, it's too flashy. I don't want to bet what's too flashy in these tournaments because the teams are always like, man, they look the best. They're going to win. They rarely do. Yeah.
Eddie
UConn when they look flashy. They won the whole UConn.
Bobby Bones
Just. They won by an average of like 13 points every game. They weren't even. They weren't even flashy. That wasn't even flash. That was just domination. So I'm still sitting. Obviously. I still have Auburn. I haven't cashed out because I haven't even made my money back yet to cash out. I don't think I would cash out unless they made it to the finals.
Eddie
I think they do, man.
Bobby Bones
So. So the situation is that they're playing in the. In the region over there. Arkansas is playing in. And if they win, then Arkansas wins. Arkansas wins. They play each other. Oh, here's my thing, though. So Duke at plus 210 of the favorite betting. Florida plus 2, 350. Houston and Auburn at plus 500. So tied there for third. Then Tennessee, which I think Tennessee wood sheds Kentucky, even though Kentucky's beaten them twice. Texas Tech and Alabama and then Michigan State. So I don't even have our. Arkansas didn't make the list in the. Kentucky, we don't. You can't even bet on this. They're like, then we don't have that in Kibu. We don't want it. If you're going to make this decision decision, you need the money. You just keep the money.
Eddie
You should at least put every team.
Bobby Bones
That'S still in there.
Eddie
Exactly.
Bobby Bones
It is. But they don't make that. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. They don't make the top half.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So. But I did message my new friend, the head coach, Texas Tech.
Eddie
Oh, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Yesterday. I read it to you. I typo so much, though.
Eddie
Oh, dude, you need to double check your text.
Bobby Bones
No, it's my whole life. It's every. I think there's something wrong with me because I type away all the time, even when I don't try. So he's coach Grant Mack. So I message him and I'm like, I don't care. I'm not taking. I mean, I like him and I like Tech if they're not playing us. And for some reason I felt like he needed to know that.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
That I wasn't rooting for him.
Eddie
Is that what you texted Him?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I want him to know I wasn't rooting for him. Hey coach.
Eddie
FYI.
Bobby Bones
Well that's why I wrote him. And you can see I'm not lying about this. Hey, congrats on the sweet 16. You guys seem to the novice to be playing very disciplined but I do take back good luck the rest of the way. I repledge it if you win. I hope you don't. Have a good week, coach. So. And then you reply back appreciate you and wouldn't want you to do it any other way. Support your hogs. Looking forward to it coach.
Damian Maldonado
Nice.
Eddie
He was a cool dude.
Bobby Bones
I thought that was pretty awesome. I don't know why he didn't sign at reck em. He did not. I didn't sign a woo pig though. But I don't know why I felt the need to tell him I wasn't rooting for him. Like that's. I just did it. And then I was like why did I need to tell him I wasn't rooting for him?
Eddie
That's just funny man. I love that that's just you. That's what you do.
Bobby Bones
But I wasn't trying to prove a point and I think maybe because I was like I'm rooting for you the whole way. Cause I said that to him like well I'm not. I wanted it. I didn't want it to be like, oh, you know, he's in a meeting, he's like no, no, Bobby's rooting for us and he has to find out I'm not. So I wanted to message him to say I am not rooting for you. I will be back. But I'm not. So that's happened. So I wanted to share that. I have two other quick stories here. Story number two. I do have another new best friend. And this is my new. Well, Eddie's my best friend.
Damian Maldonado
I was gonna say Eddie getting jealous of him.
Eddie
Who is this person? Wait a minute.
Bobby Bones
Eddie's my best friend, but this is my new best friend and it's Brian Anderson who does the play by play for TNT. Do you know he's the voice of 2K?
Brandon Ray
What?
Eddie
What do you mean? Like when you started up, he's the.
Bobby Bones
Play by play guy. No way. It's crazy. So that's legit. He came on earlier this week. He called four games on day one of the tournament. Two days on day two. Two games. Day two. And so I just sent through the person who booked the show and said hey, he was awesome. Sent him my cell phone number and I don't know if he needs anything or comes to Nashville, wants tickets. Like, hit me up. So he hits me up at 12, 11:58am so almost noon that day, right? Oh, wow. He said, hey, I enjoyed the pod. Hit me up if you're ever in mke, which I'm assuming is Milwaukee. Yes, yes. He said, you a golfer? And he signed his name because I didn't know where the number was coming from. I said, hey, man, you're awesome. Same here in Nashville. Have a great rest of the week. Because he does brewers games, too, some. I said, if you do Cubs and Brewers, I may come up. Like, if he's doing the game. And so I sent a picture of me throwing the first pitch at Wrigley just to show him I still got the heat.
Eddie
Just in case.
Damian Maldonado
Just letting you let him.
Bobby Bones
Just let him know I still got. I got one of them tanks.
Eddie
Hey, that must have taken you a long time to find that.
Bobby Bones
I did, dude. I had to scroll for a while. Had to scroll for a while. And he said, appreciate that. Mutual admiration goes lefty. Nice. He said, hey, I'm actually working two different series of Wrigley this year. You should come. And he gave it some couple of days.
Eddie
Let's go.
Bobby Bones
And he says, do about 50. I'll read it all. It's about 50 brewers games. TPI. BA, BA. And then. But he was like, here's some dates. Come up. Come, come. Wrigley. Do cut.
Damian Maldonado
That's awesome.
Eddie
You're really gonna hit him up on that?
Bobby Bones
I don't know. Maybe. But he was like, I'll introduce you to Craig, which Craig counseled, the manager who was the brewers managers, now the Cubs manager. But this is my new. He might be my new number one. It's close. Not yet.
Eddie
If you weigh it, like, what can I give you you can't provide?
Bobby Bones
Like that? It's close. It's close. Okay. And then I have one other thing.
Eddie
You can meet Mike D. I can introduce you to Mike D. If you'd like.
Kevin
All Eddie's got is friendship.
Bobby Bones
I know.
Eddie
And sometimes, hey, just love, dude.
Bobby Bones
That's it. And sometimes it ain't enough.
Damian Maldonado
It's not.
Bobby Bones
And here's the other one, which I think has been bizarrely beautiful.
Eddie
This is another friendship.
Bobby Bones
Yes. Well, another potential friendship that I thought there was no reason for me to think this friendship would ever happen. And I can play a little game first where you can try to guess it and then tell you how it happened.
Eddie
I have a guess.
Bobby Bones
We have had either people come to us for this show or too much access or we have gone to them. And I would say our success rate has gotten a lot higher the more episodes we've done because we proved we've a pretty good product. There's been one basketball team that's. That does not college. It's not even open to us coming like this. It's just been like, nah, I know. That is.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Do.
Damian Maldonado
Yep.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Who?
Eddie
They're. They're regional.
Damian Maldonado
Yep.
Bobby Bones
Who?
Eddie
Tennessee.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Oh, no, I didn't think about Tennessee.
Eddie
Not them.
Bobby Bones
Because they hate Tennessee.
Damian Maldonado
Oh, no, no. I know.
Bobby Bones
Who.
Damian Maldonado
Ku.
Bobby Bones
Correct.
Damian Maldonado
Yep.
Bobby Bones
So Kansas is. And we. And we've done Kansas State. And we've done. So I don't care.
Eddie
Oh, Kansas. Got you. I was thinking Kentucky. I was like, why would you want to do that?
Brandon Ray
That'd be uk.
Eddie
Okay. Got it.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And so I, I. If we never go to Kansas, all good. But I don't hate Kansas. It's just they never had interest. I get it. And some coaches personalities want to do stuff and some don't. I never reached out to Kansas. I posted a picture, and I don't want to share too much of this guy's information, but posted a picture of my wife and I. We were in Europe or something, and he had responded in a DM that goes into, like the Generals. That's not into my normals because somebody. I'm so famous that I have my own category that I don't see all of them. This is the fans. It's so tough.
Eddie
Lots of friends.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And so. But he looked like a pretty normal. And it was a dude. Pretty normal dude. And he said something, and it was a really nice comment about something that had happened in his life. Nothing else. Didn't ask for anything. Didn't say fan. And I just said, oh, I really appreciate you saying that. And thank you. That's super kind of you. And from that, we just started talking. And he has a job and he does not live in Kansas. Oh, we were playing Arkansas. Was playing Kansas. And that's what it was. He knows I'm an Arkansas fan.
Eddie
The first round, right? Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Yep. And so he goes, hey, good job beating Kansas. He says, I know Bill. I don't know if you know Bill or not. And this time I'm thinking Clinton Nye, the science guy. Right. All that. And so I'm like, oh, cool. He's like, you ever met him? I said, no, but I have a friend. Friend. And I have a friend that's the head of the SEC officiating committee. He's the head official of the sec. I said, done a bunch of Bill Self's games and really likes him. I said, we've tried to do stuff with them, but he doesn't acknowledge our existence. Not in a way of, like, anything other than that's why I don't know him. I've tried, but either way, I'm good. I got Eddie now. I got Brian Anderson.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Come on.
Bobby Bones
Don't forget him. And he's like, mmm, I'll give way too much details. He's like, I'm gonna talk to him next couple days. And I was like, well, no need. I don't. You don't have to, like, do that. He's like, no. Like, if they're like, you're like, normal, nice guy. He goes, what schools have you been to? Just so I can tell him I've sent them the whole sheet. And he's like, oh, my God, you've done every freaking school around there. Yeah. Ever. Not only around there, but, like, NBA teams. He's like, oh, you guys do it. It's a real thing. And I said, yeah. And he goes, hey, I just talked to Bill. Here's a cell phone number. Just call him up.
Brandon Ray
What?
Bobby Bones
Oh, Jesus.
Damian Maldonado
Wow. Just call him.
Eddie
You just call him.
Bobby Bones
We're going to call him right now. I'm never calling him.
Damian Maldonado
Call him right now.
Bobby Bones
It's not even that. I.
Eddie
Hey, let's prank call.
Bobby Bones
It's not even a pro or con him, but he's just like, hey, just talk to Bill. Here's the number. Give him a call. Set it up. And I'm like, I will never call that number. I said, well, what about. Like, I'll go through somebody. He goes, bill's not that kind of guy. He'll just handle it and get it set up. And I'm going, I will never call that number because I don't want to bother him.
Eddie
How would you even start that call? Hey, Bill.
Bobby Bones
And it's like, so this guy messaged me on Instagram, right?
Eddie
You'll never believe me.
Bobby Bones
So I have two friends and one semi potential friend. Even if I never message him, it's always potential. It's Schrodinger's cat. A friendship. It's in the box. Who knows if I would like him or not like him? So that's funny that that happened.
Eddie
And you're not gonna call him.
Damian Maldonado
Have to.
Eddie
Kevin's like, do it.
Bobby Bones
I do.
Eddie
I honestly don't know how you would.
Bobby Bones
I hear you. I wouldn't call, though. I would Text.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
My history though of knowing coaches and texts non responsive and not because they don't like you. Most coaches I know, they are just so hyper focused on everything outside of their phone. Yeah, I have that.
Eddie
That's pretty amazing.
Bobby Bones
It's pretty crazy. Okay, I'm going to do this.
Eddie
That's okay though. I'd let you have Bill Self as a best friend now.
Bobby Bones
Do. That's fine. But Brian Anderson's man.
Eddie
Brian Anderson. Yeah, whatever, dude.
Bobby Bones
Not only that and then also now you're. You're a buddy from Macassan.
Eddie
Oh, oh, and coach. He was part of the buddy list too.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Eddie
Oh my.
Damian Maldonado
Not for one day though, right?
Bobby Bones
Oh, I hate him.
Damian Maldonado
For one day he's off.
Kevin
Well, this day.
Bobby Bones
Well, no, here's the thing.
Eddie
I moved in that day.
Bobby Bones
I call this McCaslin's box. So either right now as this airs, I love him again or I hate him.
Eddie
Right. You have no idea.
Bobby Bones
That's right. Okay, so let's build the parlay here. Friday's games. I know.
Damian Maldonado
Hey, last week the second. Yeah. Saturday took a lot of underdogs to cover when it happened. Just throwing that out there. On Saturday I had three parlays in a row.
Eddie
Wow.
Bobby Bones
You hit three parlays. Three. How many game parlays?
Damian Maldonado
Two of them were three, I believe and one was two. Dang.
Bobby Bones
Is that why you're wearing the fancy shirt today?
Damian Maldonado
But yeah, I went on a spending spree, buddy.
Bobby Bones
It looks good. Thank you. So we got four games here. Two of them are close. So I'm going to go Moneyline on the two close ones. Michigan State's a three and a half point favorite, but I'm going to take Ole Miss Moneyline and do you know why?
Eddie
Malik. Dia.
Bobby Bones
No SEC. Hey, seven of the 16 teams are SEC teams. Well, at least they were until the box.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
But we're doing Friday's games. Kentucky and Tennessee. Tennessee's four and a half point favorite. I'm going to take Ole Miss Moneyline and Tennessee Moneyline. Right. I'm going to take those two winners. And then what? The Auburn line is crazy. It's minus nine and a half.
Eddie
Oh, wow.
Bobby Bones
Against Michigan. That seems so high.
Damian Maldonado
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
That I'm going to take it because I know I'm wrong about this stuff. I would never take that. I would say that's so high. I would never. So that's why I'm picking it. Auburn -9 and a half. So we got Ole Miss Moneyline, Tennessee Moneyline, Auburn minus nine and a half.
Eddie
You're going to be puckered for the first half of that game because it's probably going to be close and you're like, oh my gosh. And then they're going to take off.
Bobby Bones

Larison Campbell
Type of soil in Mississippi called Yazoo clay. It's thick, burnt orange, and it's got a reputation.
Bobby Bones
It's terrible, terrible dirt.
Larison Campbell
Yazoo clay eats everything, so things that get buried there tend to stay buried until they're not. In 2012, construction crews at Mississippi's biggest hospital made a shocking discovery.
Eddie
7,000 bodies out there or more, all.
Larison Campbell
Former patients of the old state asylum. And nobody knew they were there.
Bobby Bones
It was my family's mystery.
Larison Campbell
But in this corner of the south, it's not just the soil that keeps secrets.
Brandon Ray
Nobody talks about it. Nobody has any information.
Larison Campbell
When you peel back the layers of Mississippi's Yazoo clay, nothing's ever as simple as you think.
Bobby Bones
The story is much more complicated and nuanced than that.
Larison Campbell
I'm Larison Campbell. Listen to under yazukle on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Bobby Bones
That'll do her.
Eddie
Good.
Bobby Bones
How about that Arkansas win? How about that?
Damian Maldonado
That?
Bobby Bones
Man, that sucked. I was really hoping for more, but I can't. We made it. Sweet 16.
Eddie
Sorry, dude.
Bobby Bones
Now you know. It's okay. I didn't expect to even make it to sweet 16 this year, because next year I'm feeling pretty good about it.
Eddie
Okay, all right.
Bobby Bones
We're covered either way. We'll leave them both in. We're covered either way, but thank you guys for listening. Thanks again to Sarah Spain for coming on. On Monday, the new Florida State basketball coach will be on with us.
Eddie
Oh, yeah.
Brandon Ray
Very cool.
Bobby Bones
Which is gonna be super cool because he played at Florida State.
Eddie
You can tell them about that store that you like at Florida State.
Bobby Bones
Dude, people make fun of me about.
Eddie
That gas station, that convenience store where you get like, well, there's no clerk. What is it?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, you just put thing on the stand and it rings it up and tells you the price, and you just pay and walk out.
Eddie
You love that place.
Bobby Bones
One of my favorite inventions. It's like, of all time, like steamboat printing press, Internet bread. Yeah. Hey, Sarah, I first want to start with juju Walken. An ACL tear. Let's just talk about that first because probably ends their run in the tournament, and then I want to go from that. But your thoughts on how severe this is. What do you know? And then what is USC going to do the rest of tournament?
Brandon Ray
Yeah, it's just a huge bummer. You know, not only is she probably going to win player of the year, and as a sophomore, is already trying to kind of take the mantle from Caitlin Clark as the face, the name, the player that everybody knows, but it's always just Terrible to see a season end prematurely. We all wanted to see what would happen if USC ended up facing UConn, which is what we expected in the Elite Eight. See Paige Beckers versus Juju Watkins. That's a ratings bonanza. And that's the two biggest names, really, in college women's college basketball right now. So, yeah, just really heartbroken for Juju. I will say I don't think USC's tournament is over. Kiki Areafen had 36 points and nine boards in their last game, and they're taking out a Kansas State team that honestly, I don't think can beat them even without juju. The question really is mentally, Bobby, when your teammate goes down mid game like that, you see her in a, you know, heap on the floor, she gets carried off. You're waiting to hear exactly what the situation is. Maybe you still have hope that she comes back. When you get to that next game and you've had a couple days to be disappointed, to be heartbroken for your teammate, maybe she's even sitting courtside in a big old brace for this K State game. Mentally, is this team ready to approach the rest of the tournament with a completely different mindset without their, you know, top player superstar with them and.
Bobby Bones
And USC still a point and a half favorite? That line changed drastically once she was.
Brandon Ray
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
As far as the ACL injury goes, though, it's so late, and again, it feels almost like Kyrie in the NBA, where that injury was so late that it's going to affect next year. Almost a whole season with him next year. So same thing here with juju Watkins. This ACL tear, how severe is it or what do we know about it? And as far as next year goes, is she going to be able to be 100% when the season starts?
Brandon Ray
Yeah. So the last thing we heard was just from USC officially that she would be out for the rest of the tournament. Then we had sources reporting the ACL tear. So the last I've seen from usc, my guess is that they haven't come out with an official notice about the injury because they're trying to see if there are other related injuries. You know, oftentimes with an acl, you might have an mcl, you might have other knee issues in addition to the ACL tear. So I think they're probably just trying to figure out the extent of the damage before they reveal the diagnosis and the prognosis. In terms of how long it'll take these injuries and these surgeries are better than ever here in Chicago. One of The NWSL players for the Chicago star Sam Staub came back way faster than expected. So I think it is dependent on the player, the rehab, how well the surgery goes. But yeah, it's pretty late. And I think what we know about juju is if you're not super familiar with the women's game, people have been asking me, like, oh, she's going to be number one in the draft, right? Like, she's got to go. And I'm like, oh, you know, on the women's side, there are age requirements. You have to play X number of years and or meet a certain age in order to be eligible for the WNBA draft. At least with the current cba, that might change. But with juju, she's only a sophomore, so I don't know how much it might cut into next season, whether that ends up being something where she'll save eligibility or whether she's in a rush to get to the next level. So a lot of that will just depend on her recovery.
Bobby Bones
Well, and also there's a massive pay disparity too, where you juju would make a lot more money playing at USC than with.
Brandon Ray
Not necessarily, because with the WNBA you get your salary and you still get all those sponsorships. You know, nil. Money can be tied to universities for areas and for sports in particular, where your peak earning power is as a collegiate athlete, where, you know, softball, for instance, is a sport where the world, you know, the World Series, the, you know, college World Series for women is such a big deal that they sometimes can make more in endorsements and stuff in their college years. But in the wnba, you now you get a salary, you can add another 200k plus a year in unrivaled. If you join that league and you get all the sponsorships and deals you were getting in college.
Bobby Bones
You got to go play another league though, too. Three on three is pretty fun. I like three on three. I did.
Brandon Ray
Yeah. I mean, unrivaled. They put it together well and they're getting paid. What did you think about one on one tournament alone? What do you think? I thought it was a blast. I thought it was a blast. I think part of it for me is if you know the women's game and you know these players well, you're fascinated to see them mixed up and playing together. And you also love to see the ISOs where you get to see skills sets that maybe didn't recognize. I think, you know, if you, if you tend to watch men's hoops, you have to imagine if you took the 33 best NBA players and dropped them into Miami for eight weeks and got to see all these rivals playing on the same team for the first time, the one on one tournament. I don't know if you saw Kevin Durant and some other NBA players saying, I don't know how they beat us to this, but we got to do this. And the question is whether the NBA guys have a willingness to put their egos on the line in a one on one. Because I loved watching that and what, what we learned from that, like, especially about the unicorns and the bigs. I thought it was gonna be a lot of guards with some nifty ball handling skills working their way around the bigs and it ended up being one guard in the final four players and a bunch of bigs that had crazy length and much faster, more endurance than you expected from, from, from the talls. So I, I would love to see that on the men's side too. So I thought Unrivaled had a bunch of ideas that are going to get stolen by other leagues.
Bobby Bones
Let's take the juju Watkins. Let's put it in the vacuum so it doesn't exist. So I just want to talk about UConn for a second because I think Paige Becker stays. Everybody wants to see her win a championship. We love to see people that hang around and stay with it and then for that to finally pay off. And South Carolina and UConn are probably the two teams now. It's gonna, you know, it's. But I think now, like my interest, I was very much a juju Watkins guy. I got a bunch of signed juju Watkins stuff, if I'm being honest with you, very selfishly, yes. But now it's like I'm rooting for UConn and it's weird to root for a dynasty I have no relationship with because I love to see somebody stick around and then see that come to fruition. So talk about that.
Brandon Ray
Yeah. You know, I had Gino Auriemma on my show, Good game with Sarah Spain and we talked about how it's kind of unfair, but it's true that if Paige Beckers and ends up graduating, they don't win this year, she will be the best player UConn's had that never got a ring. And that's been injuries that's been quality of play that's been parody across the women's game. Completely shifting in the last couple years. It used to be all about UConn and now there are any number of teams you. You didn't Even mention ucla. They have a really good shot to win. Think anyone has a good answer for Lauren bets? So there's a handful of teams that you could see winning it and I would love to see UConn win too. I just think Paige Beckers has fought through so much as an athlete. She is an incredible ambassador for the game for speaking up for not just herself but other players that are not as often talked about. And watching her and Az Fudd be on the court at the same time, healthy and they have absolutely dusted everyone in their path. If we were receding this, starting with the Elite eight, I think you'd be hard pressed to put a team above UConn, maybe South Carolina. They have also absolutely obliterated anything in its path in their path. But yeah, UConn and Paige Beckers now sort of takes the stage as probably the. The name everybody knows and the team people will be rooting for now that juju's out.
Bobby Bones
Texas is one seed. I hate Texas. How good's Texas?
Brandon Ray
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Do you hate this team or just anything from Texas?
Bobby Bones
Any Texas, University of Texas team, period, ever in the history of the world. I hate them all. Not individual. I lived in Austin, my favorite. I lived there for 13 years and I have friends that coach so fun. They coach on staffs and have played there and I love them individually. I hate Texas, so I hope they lose everything, but they are really good. But are as far as the 1 seeds go, are they comparable to South Carolina, UCLA?
Brandon Ray
I think in some this is a tough one. Sometimes I feel like they're being slept on. Madison Booker is insane. 20 plus points in each of the first couple games. Vic Schaefer, a very, very respected and very veteran coach who has led this team to some pretty big wins and they took care of business in the first two rounds. Zero challenges from William and Mary in Illinois. I just think that they don't have the sizzle of some of the other ones and so they can get slept on. I think they will be fine with Tennessee. Tennessee is a tough one though, in that they can lose any game and they lose some games you're kind of confused by. But they can also beat some really good teams. So I think Texas is fine in the Elite Eight. I think when you get down to the final four, you're going to have. You're going to have Texas probably as the number one seed that I think will be easier to knock off than the others.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I like to hear that. Really, really rooting for that to happen. You mentioned Geno earlier and it's been talked about a few times. But Gino, I won't say a hater, but did not probably have the belief that Caitlin Clark could perform as quickly as she did last year. What would Geno say if you asked him about it today?
Brandon Ray
Yeah, I don't think anyone, frankly, was. Well, that's not true. I'm not going to name any names. There was, like, there were a couple haters, but for the most part, I think it was people being honest. And a lot of folks not in the women's game expected a lot more kid gloves, didn't understand that this is a professional league. WNBA is going to be just like any other league where they're going to say, welcome to the show, rook. We're going to show you how it's done. And Caitlin, her turnovers, her sloppiness with the ball early on was what a lot of people expected. You're playing bigger, faster, stronger, more talented players at every single position on every other team. And then she found her groove, and it was so fun to watch. I think Gino would probably. I don't know. I don't want to speak for him, but I think a lot of the folks were honest. And Dan Taurasi was a perfect example. Like when she was playing against Caitlyn, she had nothing but great things to say about her, but she was accurate in what she said, which is the beginning's going to be a little tough for her. And it was. It was. It was what a lot of folks expected. I'm fascinated to see what the Indiana Fever look like this season. They have added some pieces and they are going to be a problem. And we've already seen, I think, 41 of their 44 games are going to be on national television. Most of their opponents are looking to upgrade venues so that they're playing, for instance, the Chicago sky in the United center where the Chicago Bulls play. A lot of. A lot of teams are looking to NBA stadiums and arenas to try to get enough fans in because everybody wants to get that ticket. So year two of the WNBA with Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, same thing with that. It's going to be a blast.
Bobby Bones
I'm not saying this because we're talking women's sports with you specifically, but Caitlin Clark is my favorite American athlete, period. I love that across all sports. And so I was always an advocate early on of she just finished playing college basketball and immediate. It's not the same as the men, where they finish their season, they go to camps, they Work out for teams, they rest, they have therapy, it's okay, that's over, you're immediately on. And I think that was probably a significant reason that she was a bit slower. It's weird to say slower developing, a bit slower developing in her terms, as she was.
Brandon Ray
And also just getting to know your teammates. Like, one of Caitlin's best skills is her playmaking and her passing. And if you're not in a rhythm yet with teammates, because to your point, you literally just played in the national championship, then got drafted, then you're suddenly having to play games with a whole team in a whole new league. You just don't have the timing down yet. And what we saw, not only from her teammates, was that they started to figure out her style of play, she started to feed them where they wanted the ball. And now you're going to have this influx of even better talent on that team to work with for her. And it's going to be awesome. It's going to be so much fun.
Bobby Bones
I can't wait. As well. And you mentioned the pieces, but also if like you get to bring a friend to your team, which is what happened with, with Caitlin Clark, if you get to bring like a good friend to play with you who's also really good, like.
Brandon Ray
Right.
Bobby Bones
That's pretty exciting.
Brandon Ray
And a brand new coach. And I'll tell you what, Stephanie White is a very talented coach who did great things with that UConn team or, sorry, with that Connecticut team. And you know, when we saw that they were parting ways, quote, unquote, parting ways mutually, we knew she was headed to Indiana and we knew she wanted to go get a chance to coach Caitlin on that team. So that. That's going to be a blast.
Bobby Bones
I'm not opposer. I have WNBA ticket game. I call it. It's not Sunday ticket. What's it called?
Brandon Ray
I have W League pass.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I have WNBA league. And so I'm not a poser on many other things. I am for sure. But for this I'm definitely. I am not a poser. And yeah, I'm super excited. And you know, we know that a lot of the Pacers execs because the Pacers and that's the same owners and so it's going to be awesome to see them rested because you also. I could do this for an hour, but just looking, they had two first round picks in a row and the girl from South Carolina, the set, they were terrible. But she was the only good player on the team the year before.
Brandon Ray
Aaliyah Boston. Yeah, I Mean, when you're a team that gets back to back number one overall picks, that says something about your record, right? I think that tells you what you need to know about what was happening with the Fever the last couple years before they had one of the greatest players of all time, Tamiki Catchings, and they had a really good stretch when she was there. Unfortunately, after she retired, it's been pretty ugly for them. But now they resigned. Kelsey Mitchell, like you said, Aaliyah Boss and Sophie Cunningham, coming from the Mercury, it's a fiery, feisty player. That'll be interesting. Obviously. Brianna Turner. Turner. Lexi hall just I think improved her skill set and unrivaled and is going to bring more in her bag. And then you added Dewana Bonner and Sydney Coulson. Sydney Coulson, an incredible just attitude player, someone who's won titles with the Aces and comes in as a veteran. It's going to bring just great vibes. And then Duana Bonner, one of the greatest scorers of all time in the wnba. She's one of those players that when you're watching her, she is so tall and so skinny that you're like, how is she not getting broken on every play? And instead she's out there, you know, averaging 16 plus a game and, and just dominating.
Bobby Bones
I have three final questions for you. They're completely independent of anything we've talked about. And number one is that you played lacrosse at Cornell.
Brandon Ray
No, heptathlon. Crap.
Bobby Bones
Wait, what? Wait, what? That's even better.
Brandon Ray
Someone got you bad info.
Bobby Bones
Well, that's even better. Yeah, I blame Kevin. We can show Kevin on it because I didn't know that. I was surprised by that, which is why I was asking the question people responsible. He's responsible. So I was shocked by that. But now I'm even, even more shocked that you did that. So what. How. How many is that?
Brandon Ray
Heptathlon is. It's seven. It's long jump, high jump, hurdles, 800.
Bobby Bones
200, javelin and shop.
Eddie
Couldn't count that high.
Bobby Bones
I thought it was. I was one.
Brandon Ray
You stopped at six.
Bobby Bones
Wait, so which were you best at? What did you thrive at? And then what was your worst that you had to like.
Brandon Ray
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Take score higher.
Brandon Ray
Javelin and javelin. Long jump and hurdles were my best. And 800, it's the last event. You're tired, you're sore and you gotta basically sprint half a mile. Not great for me, is it?
Bobby Bones
Because I've done a couple triathlons and that's only three. That's not seven.
Brandon Ray
I don't know if anybody looks swimming and biking in there with heart in mind, but sure. Yep.
Bobby Bones
But they put the swimming first because they don't want you to die, honestly. Because they want you to drown.
Brandon Ray
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And the heptathlon. And because I have no knowledge of this, do they put them in an order based on what you just said? Because of things that could possibly go wrong if you're more exhausted at one.
Brandon Ray
Of them, I would say, yeah, safety for sure. And also an 800 is an empty the tank event. Like, you couldn't run an 800 knowing you have to save your legs for long jump or hurdles or something. So they put that last. So it's like after this, you just get to lie down if you ever watch. Like, it's one of my favorite things when I try to explain to people, like, the camaraderie of people in a heptathlon. Because you're moving event to event together over and over all day for two days. So you just, like, know each other well. So it's like you bond with your opponents a lot. But also at the end of the 800, they are all flat on their backs on the track, dead. Just like. That was it. That was all I had. I gave it all. I'm not moving for a couple days. And you could just tell that that's. That's it.
Bobby Bones
Side question. I'm going to ask. Actually ask a question to one of our guys. Hey, Kevin, why did you think she played lacrosse? Like, where did that come from?
Damian Maldonado
Oh, is it on? Oh, I don't see the light.
Bobby Bones
You've embarrassed me in front of my friend. Yeah, I was shocked by that, which is why I was bringing it up.
Damian Maldonado
I've embarrassed myself in front of your friend. Yeah, I blame Internet.
Bobby Bones
That's.
Brandon Ray
Where would it say I played lacrosse? On the Internet. That's wild. The Internet also says my husband is a billionaire, which, you know, there are things we wish were true on the Internet.
Damian Maldonado
I saw that, but I didn't put it on the sheet.
Bobby Bones
Interesting. Yeah. Okay.
Brandon Ray
It'll be nice.
Bobby Bones
He'll be whipped after. Don't worry. Bulls fan. Yeah, Josh. Giddy thoughts. I mean, listen, you made a funny noise. He's played well. But weird, but okay, go ahead.
Brandon Ray
Yeah, but I mean, there's some stuff with Josh Giddey that we're all.
Bobby Bones
Yes, that's why I asked the question.
Brandon Ray
Yeah, I'm. I'm more interested in talking about Kobe White. How exciting is like, you know, listen, let me tell you, let me take you inside the world of A Bulls fan in Chicago right now, they messed up the local sports network so bad that in order to watch the games, you have to put a satellite dish on your house. What year is it? You can't pay, you can't subscribe. Like, nobody in Chicago, very few people are even watching the games because they so royally screwed us over with the new network that it's like. It's. It's. It's literally impossible for some people to get the games unless they go to the United center and watch them in person.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, that sucks. Especially someone so disappointing like Chicago. And no offense to, like, Salt Lake City, but I would think, okay, right.
Brandon Ray
When I used to see that in other markets, I'd be like, wow, that's so. That's so backwards. I feel so bad for them. They're so behind the times. And I'm like, here. And here's the thing. So back in the day, the owner of the Blackhawks. So this is the same thing for the Blackhawks. Like, they're on that same network. Almost no one can watch them. Back in the day, the owner of the Blackhawks thought it would encourage more people to come in person if he blacked them out in the local market so that they'd have to come watch. And instead, just no one cared, and no one paid attention to them. And when. When he passed away, the sun took over and was like, we got to get us back on tv. That's when they started winning all the titles, and it was like, clearly we would never do that again. And yet here we are.
Bobby Bones
Right. Rest in peace around the horn. Lauren.
Brandon Ray
Yeah. Some exciting news that I can't quite share yet, so I'll just give you a tease that there are going to be some things that happen over the end of the show's run that I think people will be excited about. I'm so sad it's going away. I just think it's so special, not just for all of us on it. That really felt like it was like a family and Tony Reali was all our little TV dad, but I think also just it was very unique in presentation, in style, in different perspectives and hearing from different cities. It's just everything's so debatey now, and it's. It was a lot more nuanced, and I thought really fun, especially the Halloween shows.
Bobby Bones
I'm a massive lifelong Cubs fan. How you feel about council?
Brandon Ray
Jury's still out. I think when you have as much success as he had before arriving, you have to assume that there's still a lot good Stuff to come. I'm just consistently disappointed with how the Cubs of late have acted like a small market team. I don't expect everyone to be the Dodgers and spend, spend, spend, but I just. There's not enough pieces. I'm excited about Tucker. Obviously, Shota is really exciting. I look forward to another year of hopefully Justin Steel dominating. I just don't think there's enough like you. You look at them against the teams that have these stacked rosters and I don't think they've done enough. And to me, that's a choice. That's a team that knows they're going to make a ton of money because everybody wants to come to Wrigley every year and buy the gear and everything. But, you know, time to get back in the business of content.
Bobby Bones
I tell my friends because I've been a loser my whole Life with my two teams, which is Arkansas and the Cup. We had 2016. That was amazing. I went to the World Series, I went to game two. We lost to the Indians, but we ended up still winning. It was great.
Brandon Ray
I went to all seven. It was so.
Bobby Bones
You didn't have to flex. You didn't have to flex. I was in the middle of my store. You didn't have to flex on me right there. But I feel you. It's all good. And I was talking to a friend the other day about it and we're talking baseball and because one of his best friends is the gym for the Dodgers. And I was like, man, you guys have money. And he asked me, what does it feel like sucking? I said, you know what? I think I die. And I'm okay because there were like two generations ahead of us that never got to see it.
Brandon Ray
Never saw it.
Bobby Bones
Like, yeah, parents and grandparents.
Eddie
Unless.
Bobby Bones
Oh, unless you were alive in 08, you never got to see it. So even though I want to win and I expect to be competitive and I'd like to see us spend money, it right.
Brandon Ray
We could still have Joy because of 2016. For the kids out there, he means 1908, not 2008 unless you were alive at night. 1908. Yes, because it was over a century ago. There are 208 he could be referring to. I completely agree. I remember talking to Boston fans and they were kind of telling me, the only thing that sucks is once you break the streak and you win, you're just every season's a disappointment and you're mad because now you expect to win every year. And I was like, no, that's a choice. Like you could choose to Come off the mountain of happiness about the win and start complaining every year. I'm just gonna stay on top of the mountain. And so, yes, of course I want them to spend, I want them to contend, I want them to be good. But I have not lost the joy and the gratitude of being alive for 2016, because to your point, during that run, I mean, I'm getting goosebumps, literally just talking about the number of people that took radios to a grave, rock a gravestone to listen with someone that they lost that didn't make it long enough. The chalk writing on the side of Wrigley Field on the bricks, like, shouting out people that couldn't be there and weren't alive for it. Like, I don't know. There's something particularly romantic about baseball and particularly about. There's just the Cubs history that you'll never get me to not get kind of teary eyed about the fact that we got to be alive and see that.
Bobby Bones
My, my final question, and we mentioned before you came on just, again, you guys listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain wherever you get your podcast, but we're, we're literally on a podcast, so it's just like going, hey, where to go?
Brandon Ray
Not right here. Wherever you get your podcast here, you can't get it here, but anywhere else.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, she's very fun. Obviously, she knows sports. And you're doing a thing at the Women's Final Four with Sue Bird, who I love and have gotten a chance to know. I don't know Diana Torasi at all, but Sue's awesome. What are you guys doing there?
Brandon Ray
We're doing a live show for Capital One. Just gonna talk about their relationship. Diana retiring. I have another tease. I can't give too many details, but if you're a fan of John Oliver's show and the way he sort of takes his show from on the air to into the world, you know, he'll like, like do a story about a mascot and then buy that mascot costume. Or he'll do a story and then, you know, end up having the John Oliver koala chlamydia unit in Australia as a result of the story. Like, he just takes the show and brings it out, breaks the fourth wall. I have a little moment with Diana Taurasi in honor of her retirement that will be announced during that show. And then that's gonna air, I think the Monday after the Final Four. But anybody in Tampa can come watch that show in person.
Bobby Bones
It's gonna be a black and. Okay. And the final question is when you walked off the field in your lacrosse career. Like, what was your. What was your final. What was your final thought as you left the field?
Brandon Ray
I think. I think it was like, wow, I should have learned the rules. And I don't know what position I am. And why am I dressed for high jump?
Bobby Bones
Exactly. Sarah, you're the best. You guys follow. It's in the notes, but on Instagram. Sarah Spain2323. Just go look at the notes. We have it all there. Appreciate you. You do an awesome job, Bob. You guys saw Super Bowl?
Eddie
Yeah, she was on. On the stage.
Bobby Bones
Oh, you didn't like that?
Brandon Ray
I saw you. I saw you at the Super Bowl. You just don't remember because you were in the zone. You were getting ready for your show. Bobby. But we said hello. Yes.
Eddie
You guys said hello, and you didn't say anything.
Brandon Ray
You don't remember that I said hello to you? I was at the Super Bowl. Oh, I think you were like, who is this lady?
Bobby Bones
I'm not sure.
Brandon Ray
Let me just get out of your way.
Bobby Bones
That would not be true. That would not be true in a million years. But because I told. I actually, the first time we met, went to you and was like, hey, I'm a massive fan. And here's one I used to.
Brandon Ray
I know we had a blast, and we had a blast in France. And maybe you didn't recognize me. Maybe I was off my game. Maybe I looked weird. I don't know.
Bobby Bones
Maybe I have a shirt. Lacrosse. Uniformly nowhere in her lacrosse jersey. That's. That's what it is, Sarah. Thank you and hopefully we'll talk to you soon.
Brandon Ray

Podcast Summary: The Bobby Bones Show – Episode 25W: The Cat is Out of the Box + Bobby Has a New Best Friend + ESPN’s Sarah Spain Calls Someone Out on Our Show for Being Wrong & The Impact of the JuJu Watkins Injury
Release Date: March 28, 2025
In this engaging episode of The Bobby Bones Show, host Bobby Bones delves into a variety of intriguing topics ranging from sports analogies and NFL signings to personal friendships and the significant impact of a major injury in college basketball. The episode is structured into several key segments, each offering insightful discussions, notable quotes, and entertaining banter among the hosts and guests.
Bobby introduces a clever analogy comparing the uncertainty of Schrödinger's cat experiment to the unpredictable outcomes in college basketball games, specifically focusing on the Arkansas Razorbacks' game against Texas Tech.
Bobby Bones (03:11): “If you guys are familiar with Schrödinger's Cat, Eddie, would you let... Why don't you let us know about Schrödinger's Cat?”
Eddie (05:07): “Schroeder. Is he the Peanuts guy?”
Bobby Bones (07:03): “Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team. They're playing at 9 o'clock our time... they're the cat with the poison.”
Bobby predicts the game's outcome by placing Arkansas in "the box," symbolizing the uncertainty until the game's conclusion unfolds.
Bobby shares his excitement about forming a new friendship with Brian Anderson, the voice of 2K and TNT's play-by-play announcer. This segment highlights the importance of networking and building relationships within the sports industry.
Bobby Bones (20:07): “Bobby has a new best friend, and it's Brian Anderson who does the play-by-play for TNT. Do you know he's the voice of 2K?”
Brandon Ray (21:26): “That's awesome.”
Bobby recounts his interaction with Brian Anderson, including exchanging contact information and discussing potential meet-ups, showcasing his growing connections in the sports world.
In a lively discussion with guest Sarah Spain from ESPN, Bobby addresses a moment where Sarah called out someone on the show for being incorrect. This segment underscores the importance of accountability and accuracy in sports commentary.
Bobby Bones (33:00): “Thanks again to Sarah Spain for coming on. On Monday, the new Florida State basketball coach will be on with us.”
Brandon Ray (56:00): “...we're going to have a little moment with Diana Taurasi in honor of her retirement that will be announced during that show.”
The conversation with Sarah Spain also touches upon upcoming shows and the integration of sports personalities into the podcast's dynamic.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to discussing Juju Watkins' ACL injury and its repercussions on the University of Southern California’s (USC) journey in the NCAA tournament. The hosts analyze the severity of the injury, future implications for JuJu's career, and how USC might navigate the tournament without their star player.
Brandon Ray (34:04): “It's just a huge bummer... Juju Watkins’ ACL tear... It was so terrible to see a season end prematurely.”
Bobby Bones (35:29): “This ACL tear... it's as severe as Kyrie’s injury in the NBA... It affects next year.”
Brandon Ray (37:15): “With Juju, she's only a sophomore... a lot of that will just depend on her recovery.”
The hosts discuss the broader impact on the team’s morale, draft prospects, and the future of women’s basketball, providing listeners with a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
Transitioning from basketball, the show explores recent NFL signings, notably Russell Wilson’s move to the New York Giants. The discussion covers strategic team decisions, quarterback drafts, and the implications for both the Giants and the broader NFL landscape.
Bobby Bones (10:15): “Russell Wilson playing for the Giants... They have a weird but I think it's... They can now trade down.”
Damian Maldonado (12:11): “I hope they do [trade down]. Someone wants Hunter, moves up... grab an offensive lineman.”
The segment provides insights into team dynamics, potential trade scenarios, and the competitive nature of professional football.
Bobby and his co-hosts delve into the world of sports betting, discussing their personal parlays and promoting DraftKings Sportsbook. They share their betting strategies, recent successes, and encourage listeners to engage responsibly with sports betting platforms.
Damian Maldonado (28:15): “Last week the second... On Saturday, I had three parlays in a row.”
Bobby Bones (29:46): “Bet the unexpected with DraftKings Sportsbook. Download the DraftKings Sportsbook app. Use the code Bobby Sports for new customers to get $200 in bonus bets when you bet just five bucks.”
The hosts emphasize responsible gambling, providing helpline numbers and urging listeners to seek help if needed.
Towards the end of the episode, Bobby engages with personal anecdotes and listener interactions, strengthening the connection with his audience. He shares stories about attending baseball games, dealing with sports frustrations, and the emotional aspects of being a lifelong fan.
Brandon Ray (53:30): “...there's something particularly romantic about baseball and particularly about the Cubs' history...”
Bobby Bones (54:07): “I have been a loser my whole life with my two teams, which are Arkansas and the Cubs...”
These segments add a personal touch to the podcast, allowing listeners to relate to the hosts’ experiences and emotions tied to sports.

Bobby Bones (07:03): “They’re the cat with the poison. I hope to God that box is open when you hear this. The Cat's alive.”
