I'm Mary Kay McBrayer, host of the podcast the Greatest True Crime Stories Ever Told. This season explores women from the 19th century to now. Women who were murderers and scammers, but also women who were photojournalists, lawyers, writers, and more. This podcast tells more than just the brutal, gory details of horrific acts. I delve into the good, the bad, the difficult, and all the nuance I can find because these are the stories that we need to know to understand the intersection of society, justice, and the fascinating workings of the human psyche. Join me every week as I tell some of the most enthralling true crime stories about women who are not just victims, but heroes or villains, or often somewhere in between. Best Bits of the Week with Morgan, Part 3 listener Q& A. It's so perfect, isn't it, really?
Scuba Steve
It's always Perfect. When you're on here scub, sometimes, like.
Martin Luther King III
I feel like it's true. It's true coming from you, but I always just. I don't know, I just don't always doubt myself if it really is cool for me to be here.
Scuba Steve
It's really cool for you to be here. And I hope you know that coming from me, I mean that.
Martin Luther King III
I know, I know. You are very genuine. I appreciate that.
Scuba Steve
Well, thanks for being on best bets this weekend, sweetie.
Martin Luther King III
I found like three minutes ago.
Scuba Steve
Welcome. You made it in. You're doing okay.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Scuba Steve
We're gonna start with some shout outs to make you feel good.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, even better. Heck yeah. Let's go.
Scuba Steve
The World is Right Again with Morgan and Scuba Michelle from Apple Valley, California.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, Apple Valley, California. I think this is the second time we've heard from Apple Valley, California.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, she loves us together.
Martin Luther King III
Okay, cool. Hell yeah.
Scuba Steve
Big fan. I love Scuba's laugh from Jenna in Arkansas.
Martin Luther King III
I'm not going to laugh anymore. Then.
Scuba Steve
I think that defeats.
Martin Luther King III
I just did it so I can make myself laugh.
Scuba Steve
And then also from Jenna in Arkansas, your animal babies are dead. So darn cute. I think she was talking to me because I posted a picture of him.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. I have one animal baby and I hardly ever post a picture of him.
Scuba Steve
I know. I love seeing the animal babies, though.
Martin Luther King III
I know. I'm all about the animal content and mine's so cute. It's just. I'll send you a video. I just don't like to post pictures of the exterior of my home. So I don't know why.
Scuba Steve
You know, if you post certain angles, you'll be okay.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, yeah. But like, but he's always in the backyard, like chasing a deer or chasing wild animal. Backyard.
Scuba Steve
You're fine.
Martin Luther King III
And I have so many videos that they're so cool to watch him, like, chase a deer or catch a rabbit and bring it back to me.
Scuba Steve
Okay, I don't need to see that.
Martin Luther King III
Okay. Yeah. But the chasing deer ones, I could send you those.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, the ones where he doesn't injure any wildlife.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. And the deer will chase him back. Like, they'll jump over the fence and then they'll do this thing where they go back and forth with each other and they'll run, like he'll go left and then all of a sudden he'll go right and then they'll chase each other back and forth.
Scuba Steve
It's really cute playing versus him trying to capture the deer.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, no, they're playing. They became. At first it was the instinctual I'm gonna kill you. And then I think within, like, you know, like your best friend is always the person you hated first, and then they became your best friend. I know this is a question. Once we short, but here we go.
Scuba Steve
No, we haven't even got to the question.
Martin Luther King III
I know, but yeah, I feel one tussle, and then now they're best friends for life. And so they've always been connected now, and at least it feels like it's the same deer or same deer pack because they sleep in our backyard. They sleep in our front yard. They feel like our home is like a sanctuary.
Scuba Steve
You have deer friends.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, it's really cool. And there's like one or two bucks and a bunch of girls.
Scuba Steve
Oh, bunch of dough. I guess that's typically what happens. Yeah.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
I think most of the time it's just like one buck. I don't know if that's the same for deer, though.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, I don't know. But it's definitely been several evolutions because some people, some jackasses will hit a deer and then it'll be a male deer, and you're like, no. Because then it could, you know, stops it. And I only saw like one or two. That's very rare that you see a male deer. And then when you see one go, you're like, oh, how's that going to affect the area with the deer? But they still have enough out there hidden where they're making babies, so.
Scuba Steve
Aw, it's cool to see. I'm glad you have some deer friends.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, it's really cool.
Scuba Steve
Very happy for you and your dog.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Yeah. Hopefully this wasn't boring for anyone.
Scuba Steve
It was not boring for me either.
Martin Luther King III
Okay, cool. Sweet.
Scuba Steve
What makes you feel the most badass, Jessica in San Diego?
Martin Luther King III
What makes me feel the most badass? Yeah, I feel like anything you complete something or you've completed a challenge or completed something that you were working on or building, I feel like that makes me feel badass. Like, oh, yeah, I did that. Yeah, I'm done. I completed it. Whether it be like going after, looking at work related, going after a guest that I spent a lot of time on going after and then finally getting a yes or finally working out, you're like, yes, I feel like a badass. We did that. He's in. She's in. Or like at. I think in my personal life, anytime something goes really well that you're like, fostering, like, like raising kids, anytime they do anything, awesome. I'm like, yeah, we're badass. Like, they did it. Because we taught them or they learned it from us or whatever.
Scuba Steve
So those badass a lot of the time.
Martin Luther King III
Not really. Because none of those things happen. I'm just kidding.
Scuba Steve
Now I was like, dang, these are good things. I mean, this happens a lot.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I do feel pretty good. I mean, there's definitely a lot of days where like, even today I'm just like, man, what am I even doing here?
Scuba Steve
Well, you're human. That's okay. That's part of the human experience. But it sounds like from an outsider perspective, you're doing a lot of badass things all the time.
Martin Luther King III
Cool. Well, thank you.
Scuba Steve
Based on your interpretation of what makes you feel badass.
Martin Luther King III
Okay, well then I guess that's right. Then I should think about it. That more often than just think about. I focus on the days that suck and I'm like, everything's awful. Everything is awful.
Scuba Steve
Again, part of the human experience. We really like to highlight the negative.
Martin Luther King III
I know the human experience is rough.
Scuba Steve
It is.
Martin Luther King III
What about you? What makes you feel badass?
Scuba Steve
I think truly, truly when I feel like so badass is when I feel super physically strong. So when I weightlift more than I thought I was capable of, like I push weight off of me, especially my arms. Cause my arms are just. They're such a little baby jello arm that when I finally like push like £60 or £70, I'm like, dang, I'm strong.
Martin Luther King III
You feel like a superhero. Like, almost like, do you kind of project yourself as a Marvel superhero character?
Scuba Steve
A little bit. Yeah.
Martin Luther King III
Like you're like, oh, I'm a superhero from the Marvel Universe.
Scuba Steve
Oh yeah. And my legs, though, my legs are like, I can squat more than my weight or anything in my legs. Like, I feel super strong when we do leg day, but particularly when good things happen on arm day, I feel.
Martin Luther King III
This is not expected.
Scuba Steve
Yes.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, yeah. Hell yeah.
Scuba Steve
Okay. Really just makes me feel superhuman. And I think that really channels the badass energy.
Martin Luther King III
Have you ever thought about auditioning for. You have to be somewhere like in Atlanta, but you're close. That's the thing I told my friend David that moved here. We are so close to Atlanta. That is a three and a half hour, four hour drive. If you needed to do something quick or a real, real fast 45 minute to an hour flight to get to Atlanta. They film so much there. Especially Marvel is all over the place between Atlanta to Canada to la, but whatever. Have you ever thought about like even just starting as like a small role in the MC universe?
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I'm paying attention to open casting calls and stuff. The problem is the timing with work is finding one that I can do.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
That works with our schedule at work.
Martin Luther King III
But now a lot of them are. So if you. Especially if you get an agent for that, who will go out and find the gigs for you, they. A lot of them are now are virtual, where it's, like, on zoom first and they like you, then. Then you come in for, like, the physical one. Obviously, when you're in person, you have a better chance, but it's out there.
Scuba Steve
It's available. Well, this is why I asked you to be my agent. I don't know if you remember this.
Martin Luther King III
Like, I don't.
Scuba Steve
A year ago, there was a segment on air, it was like, ask somebody a favor. I was like, scuba, will you represent me?
Martin Luther King III
Yes, I do remember that now. Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Scuba Steve
So. But you have too much going on, so I need to find another agent.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. Yeah. Maybe I can recommend you to somebody to help you. I don't know.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, maybe that's what. Maybe that's what you can help in the. In the process is helping me find the right agent.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Yeah.
Scuba Steve
But that's where we are. But, yeah, maybe that'd be really cool. Yeah, that'd be a lifelong dream.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, that'd be pretty sick.
Scuba Steve
Even if I just have one word.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, exactly. You were on it. It doesn't matter. You were part of it.
Scuba Steve
And I made the cut in the movie.
Martin Luther King III
Yes, exactly. Yes. You have one scene, one line even, like, oh, my God, you're holding something up. You're helping. Like, I don't know, something like Wonder Woman or whatever. You're holding up like a comet.
Scuba Steve
Wonder Woman is dc. But that's okay.
Martin Luther King III
Still. Hey, would you. Would it still be cool if you're in DC Universe?
Scuba Steve
I'd take either one.
Martin Luther King III
That's what I'm saying. You can't be picky.
Scuba Steve
Superhero situation. I'd love. Okay, Heck, I'd even do cw.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, wow. Okay.
Scuba Steve
I love cw.
Martin Luther King III
Heck, I'd even. I'd even sell my soul for the.
Scuba Steve
Words, like, I'm just kidding.
Martin Luther King III
No, I know. It's really popular, especially ever since. What's that one where they had Cole Sprouse in it?
Scuba Steve
Euphoria. But before that was on. Oh, Cole Sprouse.
Martin Luther King III
Cole Sprouse. It was. Yeah, it was one of the brothers. It was like river something. Riverbend.
Scuba Steve
Oh, Riverdale.
Martin Luther King III
Riverdale. I remember when I was working with Seacrest, that was so popular. And the girl Tanya that I worked with was all about that show and everyone like between like, you know, 17 and like 25 just loved it. We were booking guests all the time for it. It was all. People were all about it. So I see that there's still a fandom.
Scuba Steve
Oh yeah. And I'm in it. Honestly. CW produces a lot of good shows, but you just have a lot. I, I say it that way because you have a lot of haters of CW.
Martin Luther King III
Of course. Why? You saw 7 Heaven and there was a show called With a guy. Oh, the character's name. It was seventh Heaven right into Everwood. And Everwood was just like. I don't know. I can't even describe it. It's. It's like in that One Tree Hill era.
Scuba Steve
Either one of those. But okay, yeah, you haven't heard of Seven I've heard of seventh Heaven, but the ever one. Ever what?
Martin Luther King III
It was like three seasons that came after and then the next one that was big was Gossip Girl.
Scuba Steve
Yep.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, I watched the first three or four seasons. I loved it so much. I never saw the end. I don't know what happened.
Scuba Steve
So you don't know who. Gossip Girl.
Martin Luther King III
I still haven't looked it up. I haven't. I've been completely disconnected from it. I have theories. I have ideas, honestly.
Scuba Steve
At the very least you should just watch the last episode just so you know who it is.
Martin Luther King III
Well, I want to continue. I want to like pick up.
Scuba Steve
Never going to watch it.
Martin Luther King III
I know, but I still want to like I have time. At one point I may be. I'm going to be retired. I'll have all this time and then.
Scuba Steve
I can watch you watching the last two seasons of Gossip Girl. No. No chance.
Martin Luther King III
Why not?
Scuba Steve
You won't. You just won't.
Martin Luther King III
Yes, I will. I'll finish that. I'll finish. I'll finish Arrested Development and I'll finish Curb youb Enthusiasm when I'm retired.
Scuba Steve
You know how many good shows are going to be out by the time you're retired?
Martin Luther King III
You won't be watching Matter. Because it won't matter to me because I'm focused on the ones that I started that I want to finish.
Scuba Steve
I'm just saying at the very least you should watch like the last episode just to have the. It's so good knowing who Gossip Girl is.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. Why? I know. I want to know because for the longest time I always thought it was what's his name's little sister. The main character who's like Taylor. I think her name's Taylor Ronson. In real life, she's in a Rock band.
Scuba Steve
Oh, you're talking about the blonde girl. Yes, she plays. Oh, shoot, what's her name? Taylor and Gossip Girl character. Hold on.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, she's in there. I like her. Of course they may. They.
Scuba Steve
Humphrey.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Jenny Humphreys. Yeah, the sister. And they want you to think it's Chuck Bass because Chuck Bass is like a bad guy. And then you want. They also want. You think it's his girlfriend. Leighton Meester. I don't know what a character is in the show. Blair Waldorf. Yeah, they want you to think it's her. Yeah, yeah. And then, of course, the main character, like, oh, could it be her? And there's all the random characters, you know, I'm not sure. It could be the dad. It could be this mom. Could be the girlfriend. No idea. And it could be the girl that came in there that was supposed to Nickelodeon. Remember? She was there for a couple seasons. She was the bad girl.
Scuba Steve
Oh, yes. I know who you're talking about.
Martin Luther King III
Not Amanda Bynes, but the other girl.
Scuba Steve
I know who you're talking about. I can picture.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, she was in a ton of Nickelodeon stuff.
Scuba Steve
Her name is Georgina Sparks in the show.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Georgina Sparks. Yeah. And what's her. What's her name? Because she was in so much growing up. I remember watching all of her.
Scuba Steve
Michelle Trattenberg.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Trattenberg. Yeah. I forget what she. The big show she was in, but she was, like, in a big movie or TV show.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, she wasn't a lot growing up. I know what you're talking about. But, yeah, she was the. She was. But you need to go and watch last episode. Okay. We're moving on.
Martin Luther King III
All right. I'm moving on.
Scuba Steve
I'm leaving that there, though. You just need to.
Martin Luther King III
Okay.
Scuba Steve
Because you'll be like, what the crap? Are you staying with the show? Or is it in the cards to still think about leaving Amy in Indiana?
Martin Luther King III
Amy in Indiana. What a great question. If only I knew the answer to that.
Scuba Steve
Okay, well, I had a feeling this.
Martin Luther King III
Is going to be the response, but I did, but now I have no idea. But that's just the industry, so who freaking knows?
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Is that part of this attitude coming in today where you're just like, whatever, I don't know what life is anymore?
Martin Luther King III
Exactly. Yeah. My wife's like, just focus on the kids. As long as they're happy and healthy. Healthy. She's like, we got enough to take care of us, we're fine. If s ever hits the fan. Whatever.
Scuba Steve
This is true.
Martin Luther King III
But I thought that's an indie industry right now. Any Industry is. Is in a place where it's like, either people are just bored and done and want something else, or they're in a space of, like, there's a lot of budget cuts and there's a lot of consolidation. There's a lot of things that are coming in and changing the landscape of people's jobs and career places and companies and all kinds of crap that everyone's kind of like. I feel like everyone's on edge of, like, what's going to happen? And then just the world in general, the United States in particular, everyone's just kind of like, what's going to happen next? What is happening right now? Oh, my God. Is this really happening? Is this really happening right now?
Scuba Steve
Well, and apparently an asteroid is going to hit us in, like, seven years.
Martin Luther King III
And that's that too. So it's also like, what the heck?
Scuba Steve
Life is very uncertain right now. I understand. Yeah, Yeah, I get it. I wanted to make sure to give you a space for an update, though, in case there was one.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Yeah, there is one. For sure. You would hear about it definitely on the. What Ray calls the big show.
Scuba Steve
Yes, I figured.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Yeah, yeah. But sometimes people miss it because they're busy. They got life. And they may not be a. I call an on demand listener because it's available to them. They may be like, I only listen live because I drive for work for 15 minutes, and if I don't hear it, I don't hear it.
Scuba Steve
That's true. And that's a small window and a lot. A lot of stuff is happening.
Martin Luther King III
Exactly. Yes. Yeah, yeah.
Scuba Steve
Okay, this is.
Martin Luther King III
But yes, that's my long way to be, like, I don't know.
Scuba Steve
Good answer. We like it extended. Kristen in North Carolina, you can choose if you want to do this, but she proposed FMK for Lunchbox, Eddie and Raymondo.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, f. Oh, my God. F. Marry. Kill and kill.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, With Lunchbox, Eddie and Raymondo.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, wow. Everyone's forced, like, of course you want to kill Lunchbox, but I don't know that. I don't know if I want to kill any of them.
Scuba Steve
Hey, that's the name of the game.
Martin Luther King III
I know.
Scuba Steve
I remember playing this game. So I'll let you think about it for a second. I used to play this game so much in high school, and now I look back on, like. Like, that is a horrible game.
Martin Luther King III
It's a horrible game. But usually it was, like, people that. That, like, you would. We would actually want to F, M.
Scuba Steve
And K. Ours is often, always celebrities. Like, we played with celebrities.
Martin Luther King III
We do like people on school, like, hey, you want to do with these three girls? And you're like, that's even worse. Or celebrities or. Exactly. Yeah. That's why it was so hard.
Scuba Steve
Celebrities. But you just didn't know them. So it was kind of like a fantasy.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Yeah, yeah. And it usually was of the opposite sex. And in this case, it is of the same sex.
Scuba Steve
Exactly.
Martin Luther King III
So it's a little different now. You're looking in a way of just like, just in general. So if I got. If I'll play along because I'm not a dick, I would marry Eddie because I think he's the one that gets the lifestyle, the family and the kids and all that kind of stuff and whatever. So I feel like he just. Him and I vibe in that way of like, oh, I could see myself being married to him for a long time. We would get along okay. Yeah. But listen to Kenny Chesney. We go to Hawaii and just retire.
Scuba Steve
I could see you guys vibing together.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. That's why I could see myself. Okay. If I'm marry somebody, I can marry him and then kill. It's tough because I don't want to kill anyone. I feel like lunchbox is such the cliche response to be like, kill him. And of course you of f Ray because he's like the Ben Stiller.
Scuba Steve
Like, you don't have to explain it to me. I know both of them.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, yeah.
Scuba Steve
But I know what position you're in right now.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is weird. I guess just to be different, I would say I'd kill Ray and then I'd f Lunchbox. Cuz he's a party boy and he knows. He knows how to ride.
Scuba Steve
It'd probably make him really uncomfortable to hear you say that. He'd probably wish you killed him. But it's fine.
Martin Luther King III
Hey, who knows? If he walks by on a Saturday, maybe he'll come in and we'll talk about it.
Scuba Steve
He probably will. He'll come in and you guys will have a moment and then it'll feel awkward for me knowing that I just heard that.
Martin Luther King III
How long has this been already? Geez, 14 minutes.
Scuba Steve
Yep.
Martin Luther King III
Okay.
Scuba Steve
But we're gonna take a quick break.
Martin Luther King III
Okay. All right.
Scuba Steve
And we're come right back. Especially after that.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Oh, yeah. Especially after that. Oh my God. Yeah.

Scuba Steve
To shoot that picture.
Nathan King
Leave the Gun, Take the Cannoli is based on my co host Mark's best selling book of the same title. And on this show we call upon his years of research to help unpack the story behind the Godfather's birth. From start to finish, this is really.
Martin Luther King III
The first interview I've done in bed.
Nathan King
We sift through innumerable accounts. 35 pages isn't very much, many of them conflicting.
Scuba Steve
That's nonsense.
Nathan King
There were 60 pages and try to get to the truth of what really happened.
Martin Luther King III
And they said we're finished.
Scuba Steve
This is over.
Martin Luther King III
Not only is not going to work, you got to get rid of those guys.
Nathan King

What if you asked two different people the same set of questions? Even if the questions are the same, our experiences can lead us to drastically different answers. I'm Minnie Dr. And I set out to explore this idea in my podcast Mini Questions. Over the years we have had some incredible guests. People like Courteney Cox, star of the infinitely beloved sitcom Friends, EGOT winner Viola Davis, and former Prime Minister of the UK Tony Blair. And now Mini Questions is returning for another season. We've asked an entirely new set of guests our seven questions, including Jane Lynch Delaney Rowe and Cord Jefferson. Each episode is a new person's story with new lessons, new memories, and new connections. To show us how we're both similar and unique, listen to mini questions on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Seven questions, limitless answers.
Martin Luther King III
It was a moment that should have broken me, but just because of how I was raised and my bullishness and arrogance to want to be hardened me. It gave me a platform to be so singularly focused on greatness.
Stephanie Beatriz
We all have moments like this.
Martin Luther King III
Something happens that's supposed to break us, but it's in these moments that we discover what we're really made of.
Stephanie Beatriz
I promise you, if anyone knows this, it's me.
Martin Luther King III
I'm Ashlyn Harris.
Scuba Steve
Abby and Tennessee wants to know if you listen to every voicemail that comes in.
Martin Luther King III
Not everyone, but I listen to 90 of them sometimes if they're really long. If you live in voicemail and it's like effing, like seven minutes long.
Scuba Steve
I didn't even know you could leave a seven minute long.
Martin Luther King III
It used to be there was a cap at three minutes, and James of Virginia would hit that a lot. Three minutes. Three minutes. Three minutes. 3 minutes.
Scuba Steve
3 minutes.
Martin Luther King III
What up, James? James definitely listen to this because James is an og and I love James. I love. I love listening to his voicemails. He left the voice from one time. Oh, my God. It is so insane. It was too long. It's a. It's a solid three minutes. And even after chopping it up, I got it to around 2:30. I didn't want to take too much out because it was such a great story, but it was. It was him telling the story about how he used to have a stepson. And then the ending was so sad. So sad. Especially for someone like me who, like, you know, a father left and that kind of thing.
Scuba Steve
Like a funny, great, cool story. And you're like, oh, so sad.
Martin Luther King III
But it was so real, though. That's the thing. It was so real. I was like, this could be a movie. It's so sad and so real. I was like, oh, my God, this is a real story. Oh, my God. This doesn't even seem real, but it's real. Oh, my gosh.
Scuba Steve
On part one of the podcast, when we talk. Or do you think it's gonna be used for the big show at some point?
Martin Luther King III
I don't know. Let me pitch it for the big show first. Because it is so long. At least we maybe put it on the podcast because it is a really good it's one of those ones where it's a story and you have to listen to it. Maybe he'll want to stop it somewhere in a minute and, like, react to it, whatever. But it is a really long story and a really, like, whoa, mind blowing story. Wow. Oh, my gosh.
Scuba Steve
Okay, so here's my deal.
Martin Luther King III
At least I think it is.
Scuba Steve
You pitch it for the big show, and if it doesn't happen, next time you're on Best Bits, we'll play it on.
Martin Luther King III
We'll play it here. Okay, cool. Yeah. Sweet. And it could just be me. It could just be in my head where I think it's so emotional and so crazy. But I remember when I was listening to it, I was like, oh, my gosh. James from Virginia. Oh, tear it up. My heart.
Scuba Steve
Well, this is also scuba telling you. Make sure if you leave a voicemail, keep it short, keep it sweet. That's how you're probably gonna get in.
Martin Luther King III
Try to keep it to 45 seconds or less. And for the love of God, he even says it. Your name and where you're calling from. I hate having to write no name on there. I would much rather. Unless you want to be anonymous because you're asking something or you're embarrassed by whatever, that's fine. Say, I don't want my name out there. Anonymous. But for the love of God, at least say, hey, this is Jennifer from Culver City, California.
Scuba Steve
You love a name and a place.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. Because then it becomes. Then it becomes real. Then it becomes like a. Then it feels like, oh, there's somebody that we're. That we're hearing this from, versus just voice one, number three. Yeah, I'd rather have your name, please. I know, it's stupid.
Scuba Steve
More personable.
Martin Luther King III
Exactly. That's what I was looking for. More personable.
Scuba Steve
Words are hard. No judgment here. We've got Kai.
Martin Luther King III
I love voicemails. Please leave them. 30 seconds is like the prime spot. If it's like, you know, it's quick, just give it to me quick.
Scuba Steve
Start with your name, say what you want to say, keep it quick, and then end with where you're from.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, Dana. San Francisco or that. Morning Corny for you guys. Oh, here's my Morning Corny. Have a great day, guys. Bye. That kind of stuff.
Scuba Steve
Love it.
Mary Kay McBrayer
See?
Scuba Steve
Pro tip from the guy who listens.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. And if you ever have a problem with any sort of, like the podcast or on air, whatever. Another thing, you got to get more details. Like, and we've talked about this a lot of times, you have to say where you're listening to the name of the station, at least the frequency, like 94 point, whatever. And then tell me what time it happened. And if you're in that time zone. Is it central? Is it eastern? Is it west? Is it mountain? Are you in Hawaii? Where are we listening on the radio? Was it on iHeartradio? Was it on itunes? Was it on Spotify? The more specific you are, the more I can help you when you're hella vague and generic, just like it sounds like shit. Like I don't know what that means. What's happening and where is it happening and how is it happening and where are you? I said I can't help you if you don't give me those pieces of information. And I go to Morgan, Morgan, like, hey, something's happening in Wichita or whatever. I'm like, all right, well where are they listening? And like, you have to go out and you get to ask again. And then Morgan has to ask the same. All these obvious questions. Just hit. Hit us with what it is. Yeah, faster.
Scuba Steve
Now. I make sure to ask them more details before I ever come to you.
Martin Luther King III
Totally. Yeah. Because it's also like. And then sometimes they still don't know. It's like. But you know where you're. Just. Just give me. Just give us a second second and tell us what you're doing and where you're at and where and how and what time and then I can help you.
Scuba Steve
The basic five. What. What are the basic five questions?
Martin Luther King III
Who, what, when, where, why?
Scuba Steve
Who, what? When, where, why?
Martin Luther King III
Yes.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, that's what you need.
Martin Luther King III
Exactly. Yeah.
Scuba Steve
All right, we've got Kyle from Mississippi. Mississippi. Mississippi. Yeah.
Martin Luther King III
Huh?
Scuba Steve
Mississippi.
Martin Luther King III
Mississippi is Mississippi because MI is Michigan, MO is Missouri. Mississippi is Mississippi.
Scuba Steve
There we go.
Martin Luther King III
So Kyle from Mississippi and Montana's mt.
Scuba Steve
Thank you. We don't need the rest of them.
Martin Luther King III
Yes, we just needed Ms. Is there any more M's? Oh, Minnesota's Mn. Massachusetts is Ma.
Scuba Steve
Okay. He is a father to a three month old recently new father. What's your best fatherly advice?
Martin Luther King III
Oh, man. So this is gonna sound hella cliche and you probably heard it a million times, but I'm telling you from someone that is seven years into the first one. And looking back, I'm like, holy crap. They were all so right. And I was just like, ah, it's cliche, but it's so, so true. And it's so simple. But good God, time goes by really fast. Kenny chastening says it best. Don't blink. Like, literally. He didn't really Write it. But he sang it. Don't blink. And really, you'll sit here at three months and you're like, oh, my God, I'm so tired. And oh, my God, my wife is da da, da, da. And then I go to work. I go back to work and I'm miss and all these things. And the next thing, they're a year old and they're three years old, and they're five years old, and they're seven years old. And then I'm talking to people that are like, they're 16 years old and then they're us, and then they're 30s. And you're like, holy crap. And you look at the perspective of life. It happens so fast. So really, truly, really, really, just try to be as present as you possibly can. Your phone doesn't mean nothing matters. You want to take some videos and photos and stuff, like, because I did log the process of my kid, like, growing up and certain things. But, like, really just be there and really enjoy it. And don't be one of those parents that is such a. A no person where you're like, no, don't do that. Or don't do this. Like, let them figure it out a little bit too. Let them curious, obviously, if they're grabbing a knife. No, let me have that. Like, knife. Oh, my God. Knife. Grab the knife. Like, that's a big deal.
Scuba Steve
Or this feels like a personal experience.
Martin Luther King III
Yes. One of my friends, John, his kid, I remember his boy was like maybe two or three. We're all in the kitchen and we're like. We would hang out them a lot when we were living in la. Cause we were like, really good friends from way back in the day. And we loved them so much. We had just had our son, so I think he was maybe six months old. And we're all like, hanging out. We're all just tired. We just had a baby and their kid's like two or three, so they're tired. We're in the kitchen, we're hanging out, and next thing I look over like, oh, he's holding a knife. I'm like, oh, that's a really big knife. I was like, oh, my God. Knife, knife, knife. A real knife. And everyone. Jackson John's like, what? Huh? He. Knife, knife. And he's oh, my God. And he's like walking around like this. I don't know how he maybe got it from the counter or something. He's just curious. And he's like, whoa, let me get that real quick. So.
Scuba Steve
But like, you know, that avoided A tragedy.
Martin Luther King III
Pots and pans or like bumping into a. Like, whatever. Just stupid crap or picking up sand, whatever. Like dumb things that don't really matter, but you're like, oh, they're gonna hurt themselves. Let them figure it out. They're gonna go through the whole process of life. But also it's kind of fun to let them see things positive or negative, just because it's kind of cool just to see someone else. I think that's the experience of just seeing somebody else figure out life. And you guide them along the way as best as you can with whatever knowledge and things that you learned in your life or things that you learned that you know. Like, I don't want to do that when I have kids. And then really try it and then see if it really works. And sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. But my biggest advice is really just enjoy the moment and just be in it and really, really enjoy everything. So when you look back, like when I look back after seven years, I'm like, oh, man, it does suck. He's seven and oh man, she's four and she's two. Like, holy crap. But I'm like, but I have so many great memories from those last seven years that I'm like, okay, it was totally worth it. Still sucks. You're going to get there where I'm at now, it's going to suck. There's nothing about. No way about it. I thought about quitting my job 100 times and just being a stay at home dad, but just. It's not logical. I don't have a trust fund and I'm not worth $20 million, but if I did, and I wouldn't be here right now.
Scuba Steve
Well, that is some very great dad advice.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, just be there.
Scuba Steve
Coming from a dad of three kids. So I think he has some experience there.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. Oh, yeah. I was you seven years ago, sitting there in our house in Van Nuys, California, being like, oh, my God, holy crap, we have a kid. He's right here. Oh, my gosh. And then they just changed so fast. So please be there for him.
Scuba Steve
No, that's good. That's.
Martin Luther King III
Congratulations. It's amazing.
Scuba Steve
Yes. You made a baby.
Martin Luther King III
More importantly, your wife. Congratulations to her. Yeah, she did a lot more work, bro.
Scuba Steve
She did a lot of work.
Martin Luther King III
We know what's real.
Scuba Steve
All right, we're ending on this one.
Martin Luther King III
All right.
Scuba Steve
Do you have thoughts now on what your kids might grow up to be? Erica in Wisconsin.
Martin Luther King III
Based on where they're at now. It's funny, when I was in California last weekend or the weekend before. And my wife sent me a picture and I was like, oh, my gosh, I'm gonna save this picture forever. Because I put in my favorites because it'd be fun to look back on it in, like, 20 years to see if they're all doing what they're doing right here. Which here's like a. They won't be able to see this, but one of them is, like, holding a guitar and strumming. One of them is dribbling a basketball. And one of them is, like, making food or, like, eating food.
Scuba Steve
It looks like she's eating a little snack.
Martin Luther King III
Exactly. Yeah. Like a play snack. So I was like, oh, my gosh. So my oldest child bouncing the basketball. I was like, oh, something athletic. Whether it be basketball or baseball or.
Scuba Steve
Football, you have your athlete that you.
Martin Luther King III
Want to play, at least at this point. Or you could totally screw me and be like, I'm not into it. I hate it. I want to do business. I don't know.
Scuba Steve
That does happen most of the time.
Martin Luther King III
My middle child. Hello, Wild. She's the one playing the guitar. I could see her being a creative or an artist. She loves to paint, so it could be writing music. Could be a singer, it could be a painter. It could be create. I don't know.
Scuba Steve
Could write the screenplay that you always wanted to write.
Martin Luther King III
Exactly. Could be that. Who knows? And then the little one is so introverted, but yet extrovert. Like, it's a weird combination. And she's really quiet, but she's really smart and really calculated and loves food. So I could see her being like a baker or a head chef or owner of a restaurant or an entrepreneur of some sort.
Scuba Steve
She could also be a woman in stem too, with the calculations and the analytical side.
Martin Luther King III
Exactly. Yeah. Because she's super, super smart. So I don't know.
Scuba Steve
That's where we're at currently.
Martin Luther King III
That's where we're at at this moment in time.
Scuba Steve
Those are some giant aspirations. What if you ask them, would they like to. To be.
Martin Luther King III
If you ask them? I don't think I've haven't asked him in a while, but I think last time I asked my son if what he wanted to do, he said a police officer or like FBI or CIA.
Scuba Steve
Okay.
Martin Luther King III
He wanted, like, oh, I want to investigate and chase the bad guys and all that kind of stuff. Which is funny because when I was his age, and then till about 11 or 12, I wanted to be in the FBI. Like, I did a whole report on it at school and everything.
Scuba Steve
Everybody has that kind of dream of being a uniform of some kind. Because really, when you're a kid, you really see them often out and you kind of idolize them.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Scuba Steve
I think you did too. As you get older, it's just a different experience. But as a kid, you very much idolize a person in uniform, most definitely.
Martin Luther King III
And then something so like mystique as FBI or CIA, it's so secretive and so different and so unique. And you know, he sees like characters like that in a show and he's like, whoa, they're so awesome. They're in the FBI. And I'm like, yeah, dude, it's pretty cool.
Scuba Steve
He's probably the only one that probably quite understands like growing up and becoming something at this point.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah. Because I can't ask my 2 year old. She wouldn't really have an answer. Yeah, she blew it. And then if I asked my 4 year old, she would say something probably like a singer or an artist or something like that.
Scuba Steve
Hey, that was also me.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, yeah. Okay.
Scuba Steve
Just, you know, look out for her.
Martin Luther King III
I heard about that. Yeah, look out for her.
Scuba Steve
Don't let her try out for American Idol.
Martin Luther King III
She could be an actress though, you know.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, definitely encourage that.
Martin Luther King III
But yeah, she could pivot like you and be aspiring actress if she doesn't.
Scuba Steve
Have a great voice, you know, look out for her because I do appreciate that I did not become a viral meme.
Martin Luther King III
You could have easily been one, huh?
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I would have been. There's no two ways around that.
Martin Luther King III
Kind of cool, though.
Scuba Steve
You've heard me in black, karaoke, scuba.
Martin Luther King III
Oh, I have, yeah. Yeah, definitely.
Scuba Steve
Like, I would have became a meme.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, that'd be kind of cool. I mean, look at William Hung. He like capitalized on that for a while.
Scuba Steve
You know, I have very thick skin, but I don't know that I have that thick of skin. Like, I'm very thick. I can put up with a lot of things that. That level. I don't know. I don't know.
Martin Luther King III
Do you remember Sean Jaya? He was like. He was like, good but not good. I think they kept him around for a while because he was just not good.
Scuba Steve
But he was really familiar.
Martin Luther King III
He was like early on, like season, like, I think it was like four or five or six somewhere around there. There.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I really, I. The ones that I think of when I think of American Idol are Kelly Clarkson and the Clay Aiken. And who was the guy that went up against Clay Aiken?
Martin Luther King III
Reuben Stutter.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, those are really the main ones that I think of. Of American Idol first couple seasons.
Martin Luther King III
Yeah, totally. Yeah, they're big.
Scuba Steve
All right, well, we're gonna get out of here, but thanks for being here. Thanks for answering questions.
Martin Luther King III
Thank you so much for having me. I really appreciate that. Oh, my gosh. Wow.
Scuba Steve
Please don't do that. That makes me uncomfortable. I have no idea what just came out of your mouth, but like, awesome.
Martin Luther King III
I just love that for you. Thank you so much for having me.
Scuba Steve
I feel so uncomfortable.
Martin Luther King III
I just want to be sarcastic. It's fun sometimes.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. I just feel weird, you know, between the FMK and that I. There's a lot happening here.
Martin Luther King III
Okay. We're awesome. We were at dinner real quick with my wife and I were at dinner and this guy was like, oh, we're trying to. We're trying to. You guys want any wine? It was a Somalian a for the restaurant and. And my wife was like, we're kind of a little studio. Like, if it's not from like, Napa, we're not there. But we don't really drink wine in general. But we will for somewhere like a Sonoma or Napa or wherever they do wine. But like, on general, like, we're not really have wine. We whiskey, drink gin, whatever. He's like, oh, you guys want to try some wine? We're like, oh, no, we're good. Thank you so much. And. And then. And the guy keeps going. And my wife's like, sorry. Dang it.
Scuba Steve
My wife's like, you made it all the way till the end.
Martin Luther King III
He's like, you made it this far. Sorry. It just is what it is. My wife goes, sorry, I lost my train of thought when I did that. She goes, oh, no, we're good. Like, really polite. And the guy kept going. My wife used to work in sales, and she's like, I. When I said, we're done, we're good. Thank you so much for your time. And then. But she didn't say that. She's like, no, we're good. Thank you so much. We're enjoying each other's company. We go out once a month. And he's like, well, we're really trying to pair wine with Chinese food. Da da da. And she goes, oh, I love that for you guys. It's just so awesome, but it's just not for us. And then he. And then the guy started laughing, goes, hahaha, that's fair. And he walked off and told a couple co workers that he got turned down because most people probably just jank him along for a while and eventually don't do anything she was just very honest. Like, I love that for you. That's so awesome.
Scuba Steve
You know, sometimes you have to let people down gently.
Martin Luther King III
Exactly. Yes.
Scuba Steve
And that is the process.
Martin Luther King III
Thank you so much for having me, Morgan. I really love this experience. Experience. It's been wonderful.
Scuba Steve
I love that for you, Scuba. Bye, everybody.
