Hey guys, welcome to the episode. It's Bobby and Eddie today, and I got a few things we're going to talk about. We're going to start with an artist announcing that we're canceling their tour. Not because of mental health, not because of physical illness, but because they sold, well, no tickets. And that was refreshing. We'll talk about that. And then also songs that people are confused by the meaning of and not so much lyrics that we misunderstand, but mostly when you hear a song, you think it means this, but it means something else. So we're about to do an hour on this. Eddie, welcome back to the show.

We're gonna start with Kiefer Sutherland announcing I'm canceling the tour.

And it's because of. He even said very low ticket sales.

He didn't have to say that.

I thought that too. I did find it refreshing that he actually said why he canceled, but I did think him saying very low was punching himself in the face a few too many times.

Yeah, we talked about it. And the reason you weren't on that episode. I was with the Hunt Brothers. No, got it. And so the reason is if you go and you look at the unsold tickets, it's all blue dots because those are still the available seats. So you can go to a show that's selling really well. There will still be blue dots. But just a few. But, yeah, too many blue dots.

[Eddie]

So Kiefer Sutherland, his band is.

[Bobby]

No idea. The 24 Boys Blues.

[Eddie]

Ish. Like, I feel like when we. When I. When we lived in Austin, I feel like maybe I went to a show or I was invited to a show, and I think I maybe did a little bit of research, but I don't really remember. I feel like it's rockish. Right.

[Bobby]

I would imagine it's some kind of guitar based, kind of country kind of rock. Cause it's. That's what I think about Billy Bob Thornton, too.

[Eddie]

Yeah. The Boxmasters.

[Bobby]

Okay.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

Like, what does that even.

[Eddie]

Yeah, I mean, and theirs was. That was an interesting band. Cause they, like, would dress up like they were in the 50s.

[Bobby]

He's still playing music, though.

[Eddie]

Who, Billy Bob Thorness? Yeah, they're still a thing.

[Bobby]

I don't know if it's the Boxmasters, but he's still doing music.

[Eddie]

Yeah. I mean, I like it when they do Dennis Quaid. Dennis Quaid and the Sharks. He had a little career.

[Bobby]

Who would buy tickets to that, though? And I was thinking of this with Kiefer Sutherland because he announced a tour, and I admire how open and honest he was about it, because there are a lot of artists where we live in Nashville that cancel shows and blame it on Everything but ticket sales. Because that's almost you admitting, ah, man, I'm not as popular as I hoped. And that sucks and that hurts.

[Eddie]

It does.

[Bobby]

But who would buy tickets to a Kiefer Sutherland concert?

[Eddie]

The only time I've ever thought about doing that is because of to see them live. To see that person in. Live in person. So like Tom Hanks. Love Tom Hanks. One of my favorite actors. If he had a band, I'd go see them just to see Tom Hanks.

[Bobby]

But is it worth it to spend 60 bucks on a ticket and have to watch them for an hour?

[Eddie]

Yeah, probably not.

[Bobby]

And you know what? They're probably pretty good, right? Because a lot of these actors, we know them as acting, but had they pursued an artist career, they probably would have been at least semi successful. Because those are very like things. Like there are actors who are really good singers and Anne Hathaway's a really good singer. Ryan Gosling was on Mickey Mouse Club. Really good singer. Justin Timberlake, good actor. So it's the arts, all those go together. But I was just thinking, one, shout out Kiefer Sutherland for being honest. And then two, who are the 11 people that are disappointed because they're not getting to go to a Kiefer Sutherland concert?

[Eddie]

The ones that bought it in pre sale too.

[Bobby]

I did see people in comments going, I was so excited about seeing the show. So is it only to see a celebrity?

[Eddie]

I think so. I think that's a big part. Cause they're not the hits. Like you don't know.

[Bobby]

Cause you don't have any hits.

[Eddie]

They don't have any hits. I mean, when I saw Dennis Quaid, which I did go see Dennis Quaid of the Sharks. They were all covers. Mainly.

[Bobby]

That's what you do.

[Eddie]

Mainly.

[Bobby]

You watch a celebrity play covers.

[Eddie]

Yeah. And it was fun. He played a lot of Elvis, you know, like Beach Boys stuff and old rock and roll stuff.

[Bobby]

It should be called Dennis Quaid and the Covers.

[Eddie]

And it's all covers. Yeah.

[Bobby]

All these celebrities doing these bands, their band should always be called the Covers. So we know it's going to be all cover songs. But I think a lot of them, like Billy Bob Thornton, I think he does kind of take himself seriously as an artist.

[Eddie]

Yeah, he does.

[Bobby]

They make.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

And they're probably good. But no, I can't imagine there's any music, like people that love music and for the sake of music going to that show, man.

[Eddie]

I got hired by the Boxmasters to do. Did you know this? To like produce a dvd.

[Bobby]

Billy Bob and the Boxmasters or just the Box Masters?

[Eddie]

No, Billy Bob and the Boxmasters. And they were playing a show at Stubbs Barbecue, and I was the producer of the whole thing. And so we had delivered all the equipment to the venue, and it was early, you know, like two o'. Clock. And I told the whole. All the crew to, like, just dump everything in the middle, and then we'll sort it. We'll sort everything once everything's unloaded from the trucks. Cameras, tripods, wires, all of it. And so everything was in the middle of the venue and. And Billy Bob shows up in a tank top, like, straight, like what you would think. Tattoos showing, hair's all messed up. He's like, who put this damn stuff in the middle of my venue? And I was like, oh, my gosh. That's. That's me, Mr. Thornton. Who hell took you? Who the hell told you you could put all this stuff in the middle of my venue? And I got so scared. He goes, man, I'm just messing with you, man. And he picked up, what do you want it? I'll help you move it.

[Bobby]

That was him messing with you.

[Eddie]

He scared me so bad. I'm like, oh, my gosh. I'm pissing the talent off.

[Bobby]

Yelling at the unknown documentary producer.

[Eddie]

Yes.

[Bobby]

I just don't think there's a single actor I would go to watch a music show from if I didn't know them from music. There are actors who are really good who have made careers. Jared Leto, sure. And that was weird at very first, too, because you're like, okay, Jared Leto's got a band, but the band's really good. You didn't know that until they had a hit. Because I'm sure these other bands are really good too, because they have a lot of money. They can pay great players.

[Eddie]

Yeah, they're surrounded by talent, for sure.

[Bobby]

So it's like 30 seconds to Mars. That's Jared Leto's band. And you're like, okay, he's an actor. Is this like a vanity project? And it ended up being really good because they had hits.

[Eddie]

And is that his brother, too, that he plays with?

[Bobby]

I don't know. It is like, Keanu Reeves had dog Star.

[Eddie]

That's right.

[Bobby]

But he wasn't the singer. He was the bass player.

[Eddie]

Oh, really? I didn't know that.

[Bobby]

I'm almost positive that's what he was. Unless he was the bass player and the singer. I know he played the bass, but.

[Eddie]

But that's like Van Halen, right? Where, like, the star is the guitarist.

[Bobby]

No, because Van Halen is all music.

Yeah, Yeah, I know. What I'm saying is, like, yes, you're just the bassist, but you're Keanu Reeves.

Yeah. People are going just to see Keanu Reeves. And Dogstar might have been pretty good. I don't know. I just remember that he had a band, and I always thought he was super cool.

Johnny Depp, he has a band.

The Pirates of the Caribbean.

No, because he's an NFL player and he's got to constantly train. But he raps, and he's pretty good, really. But when it first starts, you're like, all right, I'm gonna cringe. And he's pretty good, but it's just. They get bored in the rich.

Yeah, he's good. So, anyway, big shout out to Kiefer Sud for announcing that it was low ticket sales. And then to me for going, who would even buy those few tickets? And to you for saying it's probably just people that wanted to see the guy from 24 in the flesh. Next up, I have songs that are confusing because they don't actually mean what people think they mean. And so I made a list of these. I believe I have eight or nine. And I'm going to start with the Police. Every Breath youh Take.

Which.

[Bobby]

That song, how it sounds. It's a slow song. Sounds like a love song. I mean, people think that that is a wedding song or a slow dance song or an I will always love you type of song, but when you listen to it, it's really about a creep watching.

[Eddie]

Yeah. Stalking you.

[Bobby]

It's a creepy, creepy song. The narrator, the singer, isn't loving. He's watching and fantasizing and constantly and every. And the more you know that and you hear the words of the song, the creepier it is. Because it's not like I'm watching you through the window. It's every breath you take.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

Everywhere you go, every step you make, I'll be watching you.

[Eddie]

Dang, dude, relax.

[Bobby]

It's not like I drive by your house and your car's out front and it looks like you're home. I really wish we could be together. It's every freaking breath you take.

[Eddie]

Intense.

[Bobby]

But because the melody is calm and the song is pretty, and Sting is a Wonderful singer. It sounds like a love song.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

And sometimes people don't even listen past the hook.

[Eddie]

No, I. I couldn't even tell you

what the verses say because the verses are really what makes it creepy.

[Eddie]

Oh, so it gets worse in the verses?

[Bobby]

Well, the hook is what really pounds it. But if you just hear the hook, you think it's a love song.

[Eddie]

And the verse is like, yeah, I'm breaking in your house now do bad stuff.

[Bobby]

The vibe of this song completely overrides the meaning of the song.

[Eddie]

So the same idea. Have you ever listened to Crash Into Me?

Yes. Is it on your list?

[Bobby]

It is not on my list, but that's like a creep song too.

[Eddie]

Like.

Like watching through the window. He's imagining everything that they can do.

While very voyeuristic. I've heard him talk about that in interviews.

Like, people feel like that's a super love song, but it's very voyeuristic, like, creep song. Like, I'm watching you and want you.

And it's crazy because when you watch the live stuff, you know, there's like thousands of girls just singing every word of that song.

Well, I think about how many people have a first dance at a wedding to the police. Every breath you take.

[Eddie]

Right.

[Bobby]

Or, you know, some kind of slow dance love song with somebody. Number two is Born in the USA From Bruce Springsteen. I thought this for a long time, too. Now, this song came out when I was a child, and I just thought it was a song about freaking red, white and blue.

[Eddie]

Yes.

[Bobby]

Like patriotism. It's actually about a broken system. It's an angry song, and it's a bitter story about a broken system, which is the version of the United States that he's singing about.

[Eddie]

Wow.

[Bobby]

Which is Born in the USA It's a protest song.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

And so if you look at the actual story of the song, because the song isn't specifically about just a story. It's broader. But there is a story in it. It's about a working gl. A working guy that's sent to Vietnam and then he comes home and he's abandoned by his country because he has no job, no help, no future.

[Eddie]

Dang.

[Bobby]

And that's what it is.

[Eddie]

Is that what the movie is about too? Because I think there's a movie, right, Called Born in the USA With Tom Cruise.

[Bobby]

I know the movie. I've seen Cool Runnings. I've not seen born in the USA

[Eddie]

oh, born on the 4th of July, I guess. Not the same title, but same concept. You Know.

[Bobby]

Oh, it is.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

Yeah. I've never seen born on 4th of July. I saw Independence Day. Will Smith. That's a great freaking awesome one.

[Eddie]

So good. Some aliens.

[Bobby]

The whole part of this song is that the chorus, again, is large and chantable. And because it's so chantable, Born in the US you kind of don't listen to the rest.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

And if you were to, say, sing it back from the first verse. I don't know that I could.

[Eddie]

[Bobby]

Small town in the usa No, I don't think so.

[Eddie]

Sucking on chili dog. No, that's not it.

[Bobby]

Nope.

And I think it's one of those songs that if it started, I could probably sing along with it, but I know it's like the production is so triumphant that it also fits that, hey, we're America, we rule.

That's right. It's just like you pound your fist to it, like you said.

And also you latch onto the title Born in the usa, not the verses. What's the first line? Born down in a dead man's town

[Eddie]

The chorus screams pride. The verses, I guess, scream, I got screwed.

Yeah. Wow.

So I think this may be one of the most misinterpreted songs ever.

Yeah.

[Bobby]

Because I spent most of my life misinterpreting it, and I still see people playing it in patriotic situations.

[Eddie]

Oh, yeah. Even when there's, like, a firework display and turn your dial to whatever station they're playing.

[Bobby]

Born in the USA My next song is Foster the People Pumped up Kicks.

[Eddie]

Oh, wow.

[Bobby]

And I was in pop radio. I think I was even an alternative radio doing a little double dose. And I didn't know the meaning of this song, and I'm not somebody who searches out the meaning for all the songs anyway, but I just thought it was a cool. Just cool vibe.

[Eddie]

Give me a little bit of it.

All the kids with the pumped up

[Bobby]

kicks they better run. Yeah, that's it.

I was so born in the USA in my head it was hard for me to get it.

felt like, so indie. The production of it was so indie.

It felt like it was kids.

Like a chill indie vibe. But it's the perspective of a kid thinking about violence, like shooting, like shooting up a school. Yeah. I mean, the song is, you're inside the head of an angry, isolated kid who's looking for revenge.

And Once you realize it. Because, again, I didn't. I don't hear a song and search the meaning immediately. I just try to sing along with Born and.

Once you go and you, like, read all the lyrics of the song, it starts to feel. It starts to feel sad. Like, real sad. Even in sports, he is the one that spent time on it and he brought on another guy and they talked about it. So. So there was a clip that went viral on busing with the boys. O's the Mentalist. And if you're not familiar, the guy comes in and goes, hmm, here's your pin code. And he holds it up. Everybody goes, oh, my God.

How did you do that?

[Bobby]

How did you do that? And so he's done a bunch of shows, and he was in with the guys from Busting with the Boys, and they're doing the bit, and he's like, think of a player. And so Will Compton goes, okay, got it. And I always goes, bryce Young. And Will's like, yeah, Bryce Young. Oh, no, Bryce Hall. And Will goes, yeah. Oh, yeah, Bryce Hall. He goes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So there's a little mess up there, which is the clip that he shows. And so it turns out, according to Pablo Torre, that before the show started recording, O's handed Will Compton his phone. Is like, hey, would you look up a stat for, like, the player that maybe it was even Will Compton's phone? Like, he. He loaded up, like, a site that looked like Google. So Will Compton typed in and misspelled. He tried to type in Breeze hall, but Autocorrect made it Bryce Hall. So Oz goes, bryce Hall.

So that gets told. And then there was another one. He went on the View, and he said, okay, I got your number in your head, and I got your pin number. And she's like, oh, my God. And then she was talking about it after. She said, well, there was time we spent together before we went on screen that we never talked about. And so it's this weird. I know the guy's not magic. Of course there's some trick to it.

And so you go, is it weird that people are exposing him? But then Pablo's explanation was the reason he felt like exposing him is because Oze apparently did a TED Talk going, this is how mentalism works. You watch body language. You watch. And in reality, he's getting little tricks.

Yeah.

Because if you just out, like, exposing magicians. I like that. That's funny. But I can get where people would be upset about that.

Yeah, I feel like you'd have to have a problem with them. Like, right.

That show on Fox back in the day, I watch it on TikTok still today, where the guy wears the mask, and it's like, this is how David Copperfield flew across the Grand Canyon.

And Brandon had reposted someone saying happy birthday to him. And I was like, oh, my God, all day. I am a terrible. And not only that, dude, we had just been together for, like, two hours because it was work. Cause I did one of these interviews with Amy Grant that's coming up.

If Facebook tells you everybody's birthday. I don't even think I follow Brandon on Facebook, because I don't. And Facebook would tell me anybody's birthday.

Yeah, that's for people that follow me. Right, But I don't have a Facebook page. I did that a long time ago. You did, But I'll randomly get messages on my Facebook page on, like, April 6th. Dude, happy birthday.

You didn't know. Facebook told you. But yeah, and then I sent him a. You know how you can do the Apple pay?

And as soon as I got went to my phone to text Brandon, it said on the top, siri reminds you it's Brandon's birthday. Oh, no. Oh, no, no.

I sent it to him at 7:50pm like, the day's over.

And I said, it's your freaking birthday today.

He said, yeah. All I wanted was Amy Grant making a joke because we had been together for the last two hours with Amy Grant. And then I said, dang, Happy birthday. Sorry I had to see it on Instagram. That is friendship failure. And that's on me. And he said, thanks, man. You have a 10 week old baby. Don't apologize. And then I sent him from our family to you. $1.

You know, I asked Brandon before when I got here, I was like, hey, so what did you do? And he's like, I did nothing. Like, nothing. Didn't.

How'd you feel about doing nothing?

So good. We've. We've been without our AC for like six days. And my car's AC went out before that. I got that fixed. The next day, our house's AC went out. And so it's been like 82 degrees in our house like all week. It's just been brutal. And so yesterday, right when the podcast started with Amy Grant, my wife texted me. She's like, ac's fixed. It feels so good in here. I was like, woo.

[Bobby]

Happy birthday to me. Okay, we didn't do that.

[Eddie]

We didn't do anything.

[Bobby]

Yeah.

Hey, this is where we tell them, Brandon, we fixed it for you, man.

I said, that was my original idea for texting, but I'm also going to send an apology because I never replied to that above text.

Okay, so. So what happened here was you went into the text to text him this, and then you saw a text from how long ago?

November 14th.

And it was about a charity.

Yeah. I'm going to read you the rest of what I said. I said that was my original reason for texting. But I'm also going to send an apology. The only thing I can Think of. And this doesn't count as an excuse, is that my wife was going through a brutal pregnancy at that time. So I regret not seeing it and prioritizing it, but that is still not an excuse. I'm glad. I was thinking about you and wanted to message you, or I'd never. I'd never seen it. I hope you are well.

Did you send him a dollar?

[Bobby]

I did not.

That would have been great.

Tracy here. It's our 20th anniversary, so we're gonna be at the Nashville Fairgrounds cooking 2,000 turkeys. I'd love for you to stop by, drop off a turkey, or come and take some pictures to show your support. Anything you can do would be greatly appreciated. And then he sent some details, and dang, I know I'm gonna have to double up next year.

You're gonna be there the whole time? Fried turkeys, everything.

I'm to raise turkeys for him. And so I sent him that text. I felt bad about it. I did. I hope you can tell now. Like, I feel, like, sick about that. And he said, all good, my friend. Yeah. So we're taking, like, a practice stroller. No, no. Practice car seat. I don't think the word practice. Is it called practice? No, I think it's a. Maybe like a travel car seat that turns into a stroller. We've never used it before, but we have.

Yeah, but it's like a thing to take. You have to take it. You gotta travel with it. We've taken. It's so much to move a baby.

What are you doing for ears? Are you worried about ears?

[Bobby]

You're flying, right? I'll just wear AirPods.

No, not you. Not you. Like, if the baby's ears pop on the plane, what do you do for that?

I say, hey, Caitlin, what's going on with the baby's ears.

What's up with that?

I don't know.

I bet you Caitlin's already looking through it.

She is the one that has handled 97% of all of this. But I was packing up and I had to leave some room in my suitcase to pack some of the stuff for the baby. But it is quite the experience to travel with the baby. First time the baby's ever traveled, though. We've gone to the park, we went to the restaurant. A restaurant one time that was semi chaotic. A little bit of that was on me. But we're gonna try to airplane it up.

You fly with your kids ever? Yeah, when they were babies.

[Eddie]

When they were babies, yeah. And they were all really good fliers. I think only one of them had ears popping problems. And, you know, I remember we talked about somebody. I don't know how it came up, but we talked about on the show how somebody had brought everyone lollipops around them, you know, like right as soon as they got.

[Bobby]

Sorry, the baby's crying.

[Eddie]

Sorry the baby cry. Here is some candy. And I remember we did that because one of our babies did cry almost the whole time. And it's tough, but man, once that happens, though, you now know that when you get on a flight and a baby's crying, you understand. You don't get mad. You understand that the parents have no control. And it's a terrible feeling to just be like, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, sorry. My baby won't stop crying.

[Bobby]

I've thought of like calling it a baby bucket. It's an invention. It's like a bucket you put over the top of them. So if they cry, it limits the sound going out. And it can even be a baby bucket.

[Eddie]

You just put it over?

[Bobby]

Yeah, you put it over the baby. And so it's crying and it does muffle it a bit.

[Eddie]

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[Bobby]

And it can even be a two person bucket if it needs to be. You lift up the armrest and you put it over the baby. And so that way the baby doesn't feel alone in the bucket. But is there not something to that?

[Eddie]

You might have something there. The baby.

[Bobby]

I didn't put the baby in the bucket. We're not carrying it around in the bucket.

Other than the trauma, is there light in the bucket or is it just complete darkness?

[Bobby]

I haven't got that far along. Like, I literally just invented this in my head. So wish me luck.
