Kat
This is Feeling Things with Amy and Kat.
Amy
Happy Thursday. Welcome to Couch Talks, our Q A episode of the Feeling Things podcast. I'm Amy.
Kat
And I'm Kat.
Amy
And our first email is from Casey out of Oklahoma. Now this is going to be about skin care and then we have a more mental health minded email after that.
Kat
Good man.
Amy
And then we've got some voicemails. All three of them, I believe are tips from listeners.
Kat
Oh, so we don't have to do that much work today then?
Amy
Well, yeah, the voicemails are kind of doing it for us. Well, we're gonna answer the emails, but then the voicemails. Three tips in a row. Unrelated. One about building a capsule wardrobe, another if you're a bird lover and you've got some bird feeders, and another one about laundry.
Kat
Oh, word dynamics.
Amy
I mean, because Casey from Oklahoma emailed in saying, hey ladies, I'm 34 and just started using tretinoin. Tretinoin. Tretinoin.
Kat
I think, I think tretinoin.
Amy
Tretinoin.
Kat
But that sounds. Tretinoin sounds a little bit more professional.
Amy
I've heard Amy mention it before and I was wondering if you have any tips or advice have the day you need to have. Casey from Oklahoma, my first tip for this medication is it's a medication.
Kat
You do get it prescribed?
Amy
I believe so. I believe tretinoin is by prescription only. I don't know, Shannon, maybe you can confirm that Tretinoin by prescription only because I know you can buy certain retin a over the counter stuff. But tretinoin, which isn't the exact same thing, is a prescription. I will say start slow with it, pea sized amount, two to three nights a week. But your doctor maybe told you that if it is by prescription only, if you got it over the counter. That's my advice for you. Also, with either Retin A or tretinoin or any kind of retinoid thing, the sandwich method is something that people love, which is where you layer it between moisturizer. So you apply a barrier layer of moisturizer after you wash your face, then you put the tretinoin on top of that, and then you apply a second moisturizer layer, and that's the sandwich. It's like moisturizer is bread. Tretinoin is a little meat and then bread.
Kat
Again, just because I've never used this, what is it supposed to do?
Amy
Well, I'm not on tretinoin right now, but when I have been on it or I do Biopel's retinoid or Retin A treatment, it makes my skin smooth. There's cell turnover. Helps with any kind of acne or fine lines. Overall, improved skin tone. I'll say that.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
So depending on what you have going on, it may help you in different ways.
Kat
But if you have a little bit of peeling, that's like, normal, right?
Amy
That's normal. But that's why you want to ease into it. Like, if you do two to three times a week with even an over the counter, you don't want to go out of the gate just applying it every night. Like, your skin will not be happy.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
And then you're gonna be peeling and it's not gonna feel good. So if you introduce it slowly, then you can build up. But the sandwich method is nice for any of those things. So those are the tips that I have. Do expect, though, a phase where it might be worse before it gets better. Don't you love that?
Kat
Stick it out.
Amy
You just gotta stick it out because it will get better and you won't regret it. But sometimes you gotta, like, go through. The only way through is through.
Kat
What's like when you go get like a. I've never done this, but when people get, like, chemical peels and stuff, like, their skin is.
Amy
It's like very irritated.
Kat
Irritated and peely. But then like, on the other side of it, they look so glowy and fresh. So, like.
Amy
Oh, yeah.
Caller/Listener
Okay.
Amy
And then I will say, make sure you are wearing sunscreen every single day, especially because you're starting it and it's summertime. Load up on the SPF every day because your skin is more sensitive because of that.
Kat
And don't do it if you're pregnant.
Amy
Oh, really?
Kat
One thing I can't put on my face, I actually got pretty deep in. I got very worried that Things that I was putting on my face were going to be not okay because you look, your skin absorbs it and then the baby absorbs it and all that. And retinol was one. So I assume this is the same, like, same kind of deal.
Amy
Yeah. Well, on to a more mental health minded. Although a tretinoid that can what your face, acne, all those things can lead to different emotions.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
Like I don't want to say that skincare can't be mental health related because of sometimes if, if you're getting a prescription.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Type product, then your doctor is saying like, hey, this could help you out. But yeah, it's not Accutane. We both dabbled in that.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Not good times.
Kat
Not good times.
Amy
Not good times at all. Okay, next email. Hey, Amy and Kat, I have a couple of therapy questions that I'd love to get your opinions on. I feel some shame embarrassment around this topic because I've seen a few therapists over the years but have never stuck with one long term. Number one, how does someone decide which type of therapist is best for them? I heard of licensed counselor, licensed social worker, psychologist, et cetera. Two, would it be weird to provide a new therapist with an about me document that goes over some of my mental health history and what I'm looking to get out of therapy? Three, once in therapy, how do you decide that the therapist is a good fit? Any tips on what to look for? Thank you ladies for all you do on the podcast. You both have helped keep me company through some hard times over the past few years. P.S. i live in Missouri and I'm 30. I've been listening since my early 20s. PPS. Would a live show be a possibility in the future? We'll call her cm. Cn. I guess if we're trying to keep her anonymous, it could be cm. I don't know if she wants to be anonymous. She didn't say.
Kat
But she'd give us her full name though.
Amy
Yeah, she did. But then sometimes I feel bad when something's like, you know.
Kat
Yeah, yeah, yeah. She didn't say.
Amy
Yeah, she didn't say. And this is personal stuff on the
Kat
side of caution, so I think that's fair.
Amy
I feel like Casey from Oklahoma was fine that she's on tretinoin, although prescription medication.
Kat
We just kind of gave out her medical history.
Amy
Yeah, we don't have HIPAA here though.
Kat
Yeah, you're right. You're right.
Amy
I guess you. Does your HIPAA carry over with you just in life? Well, because you have one at your practice, right?
Kat
Yeah. So if somebody shares with me as a professional, like their history, that's protected. But like if my friend tells me something I'm not required to, like your
Amy
HIPAA doesn't just kick in.
Kat
No, no. I would hope that I wouldn't just like tell my friend's medical history everywhere. But I don't think that's like a universal. I think it's common decency to not share that stuff, but I can't, I don't think I can get sued, you know.
Amy
Okay, well, let's go to Carly's first question about how we decide what kind of therapist we're looking for. Whether it's a licensed counselor, licensed social worker, or psychologists and their psychiatrist, etc.
Kat
Well, and even before I want to address, she says she feels some shame and embarrassment about like not having a long term therapist or not knowing some of these things. And I would be curious, like what does long term therapist mean to her? Because you having a therapist for even a year, that is a good amount of time. And a lot of people don't stay with the same therapist. Some people do, but some people don't stay with the same one for their whole lives. They'll see them and then they'll see somebody else and then that can be very normal. So I just want to normalize that for her. And then when it comes to the different types of therapists, what matters is are they trained or do they do what you're wanting to work on? Because a licensed counselor, a social worker and a psychologist can all technically depend on what their training is, do some of the same things. So it's not so much their license, it's are they experienced in what you need? Like if you have an eating disorder, do they have a history with that? If you are struggling with anxiety or relationships, do they talk about that on their website or something like that?
Amy
Or if, you know, you like experimental. Experimental experiential. That's what I meant.
Kat
Yeah, I knew what you meant.
Amy
I knew that wasn't coming out right. So I could have experiential type therapy, which I do. Then matching with someone that does that type of work, that'll like, you know, give you a little activity to do.
Kat
Yeah, you know, but all those people could do that. Like a social worker and a licensed counselor and a marriage and family therapist. They all could be trained in experiential therapy.
Amy
Yes. So that's good clarification. And then the site, she didn't put, she put psychologist, et cetera. But a psychiatrist, the difference in that and a psychologist would Be that they can prescribe medicine.
Kat
Well, psychiatrist is a doctor. They went to medical school. Right.
Amy
So that's why they can prescribe medicine.
Kat
Yeah, but they're mostly. If you're just going to get therapy, you probably. I could be wrong on this and depending on how this. These people work. But I wouldn't look for a psychiatrist to be my therapist. They're going to be more of a medication management and like oversee some stuff, but they're not going to do as much talk therapy. And if they are, you're going to be paying a lot more for that. So I would. I would steer somebody to look for a therapist, counselor, social worker, person.
Amy
It's only top of mind for me because I'm listening to. I'm listening to Kristen Hannah's Night Road, and one of the characters is in therapy with a psychiatrist and she doesn't want to do much talking. So in one of the appointments, the psychiatrist is like, well, why are you here? You know why I'm here. I just want my medication.
Kat
But.
Amy
But then, yeah, there's. I don't want to give anything away.
Kat
But they.
Amy
There was a lot of talking too. Like, it seemed like the psychiatrist wants there to be more talking, whereas the client just wanted the.
Kat
I just want my script. I took my Trent known.
Amy
I just. Yeah, whatever.
Kat
So they could do both, but you're most likely not going to seek that out as your first.
Amy
Okay, what about the question she asked? Providing them with an about me I love document. I think it's really sweet too.
Kat
Yeah. So surely your therapy. I'm just gonna call a therapist. That would be an umbrella. Your therapist, when you go to see them the first time before you meet them, they're gonna send you an intake, most likely. And in that intake, you can add whatever you want. There'll be questions about, like, what brings you in or give me some history. Or they'll kind of go over that in a first session.
Amy
I was just picturing someone, like, showing up to their first time with you, Cat, and you're their therapist and they sit down and they hand you like on Legally Blonde. It's like on paper, pink with perfume sprayed on it. Here's my, like, thank you. Mental health history.
Kat
Which that also, if I didn't ask for an intake, that would be really helpful. So if they don't give you that, then like, yeah, that's great. If you want to give them something
Amy
like that, I'd be like, here's a flowchart and here's all the different people and here's the Venn diagram. And here's how everybody overlaps and seems to be helpful to bust that out.
Kat
Yeah, well, and some people don't know all of that information either, so don't feel pressure to have a ton of information before you get to therapy. Sometimes people don't know why they're there and that's okay like for to say, like I don't know. I just like don't feel like myself or I want more out of life or I'm struggling in this area. I don't know why. You don't have to have answers if you're new to therapy. Like, it's okay.
Amy
And the third and final question she asked was once in therapy, how do you decide if the therapist is a good fit? Any tips on what to look
Caller/Listener

Once in therapy, how do you decide if the therapist is a good fit? Any tips on what to look for?
Kat
So this is a little tougher to answer because it's going to be more subjective to what again, what you're looking for. I would say you want to feel comfortable with this person. You want to feel like you can let your guard down. However, depending on who you are, that might take longer than somebody else. So I wouldn't say if you don't feel like you can tell your therapist everything after the second session. Like it's not a good fit. Like you have to take into account your personality. So sometimes you know in the first session this is not it. Like I don't drive with this person. There's a caveat there. But I normally would give it at least three, four sessions before you're like this is not for me. So that would be one of my tips is to try this person out a couple times before you jump ship. Because it could just be the newness and awkwardness of getting to know some therapy is weird. Like you're going and meeting a stranger and you're telling them your deepest, darkest secrets and then they're not really sharing anything back with you. So if it feels uncomfortable, it's because it's not an everyday normal thing we do. So I would just monitor how you feel when you leave and monitor if you feel like this person is, I want to say non judgmental but open. Because sometimes when there's a bad fit of a therapist, it's a lot of times because they're bringing their stuff into the room and it feels like they're pushing you one way. Does that make sense versus you can just like be open and they're this non judgmental by neutral ground. Yes. You want to feel like they're neutral. Unless you are looking like, if you're like, I want a Christian therapist who's going to use Bible or scripture to
Amy
help God hold me accountable in certain ways.
Kat
That's one thing. But if you don't want that, then you should feel that it is neutral. Yeah, I think that's a good word.
Amy
I like when my therapist says to me, oh, what are you doing? What are you doing? And I'm like, well, what do you mean what am I doing? And normally anytime she does that, I know that I've just judged myself. And she calls me out on that. Like she doesn't. She's like, oh, let's hold space for that judgment. So I get no judgment for her. Honestly, she's so good at. You could throw anything at her. And she's like, okay, let's hold space for that.
Kat
Just sit with that.
Amy
With that. What?
Kat
What?
Amy
What?
Kat
What?
Caller/Listener
What?
Amy
What was that? I know anytime she does have a little thing. Yes. Because I don't even know that I'm judging myself because she'll. I'm crafty with my words, I guess. Or how I'm sharing it.
Kat
Well, you think you're being crafty.
Amy
I think I get good point. I think I'm being crafty to where she can sniff out the judgment of myself right away. And she'll. She won't allow it. She's like, what was that?
Kat
So that's a good thing to look for somebody who is helping you not be judgmental of yourself. Not even that. Like, they're not judging me. It's that they're calling me out, helping me be more neutral towards myself.
Amy
Yeah, I saw a list of things you should never do in front of others. And one of the top things on the list was don't insult yourself because people start believing what you repeatedly say about yourself.
Caller/Listener
You.
Amy
So I know we've all heard the thing of, like, we start to believe what we say and think about ourselves, but if we start saying it out loud, other people start to believe it about us too. And so you just need a. What was that? Don't. Don't say that.
Kat
Do you have that little voice in your head now sometimes, like, you hear your therapist's voice in your head?
Amy
Yeah. And she's probably not as high pitched as I'm giving it. She is a little more. I don't know, maybe in my head it's a little more animated. And she's really not. Again, she's very neutral, so she's probably more like, oh, what was that? Let's hold space for it, you know? But I'm. I'm hearing her as a football, adding a little flare. Yeah. Since we're talking about what you should never do in front of others, three other things on that list in addition to don't insult yourself is don't share every problem to everyone, because not everyone is rooting for you. Ooh. So you're kind of giving people ammo. Those that are not on your side anyway. Don't mock your spouse or family in front of others. Humor at their expense often costs respect. And this is not in the same vein of that. But it reminds me of something that my ex boyfriend and I differed on at times around our kids. He is never sarcastic with his children.
Kat
What do you mean?
Amy
There's just no sarcasm. He doesn't do it, so. And he barely would be sarcastic with me, and I would be sarcastic a lot. And he's like, well, if you notice, I don't even really do it that much with you. Although he would be playful with me at times. But he's like, you. You don't ever see me doing it with my kids because I don't want to confuse them. I was like, oh, my God, I'm sarcastic with my kids a lot. But I see maybe with what. When he became the one and only parent and he needed to be this, like, solid ground for them of like, hey, I'm here. I'm always here for you. I don't want to blur the lines of that with any confusion or sarcasm, but. And then I started to try to pay attention to it, and I'm like, wow, he really isn't. He really isn't.
Kat
And I guess that makes. That would be hard to stop doing if you're used to being. It's like your part of your personality is sarcastic, but there's a fine line with that. And sometimes it gets mean. And then also sometimes people use sarcasm as a way to actually say what they're feeling.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Kat
And then like, I was being sarcastic and I was like, no, you were just being kind of mean. Yes. Or you just didn't want to take accountability. So it honestly is. I don't hate that as a parent.
Amy
Yeah, I know he's a good dad. It. And again, that's not the same as mocking your spouse or family. But in a way it could be.
Kat
It's. But with the offshoot, the mocking the spouse or family too, I guess it's the same with the one that you said before. You have to be careful with who you're talking to about what and what you're saying. Because if you are mocking or poking fun or complaining or whatever it is about something with a family member or a partner, those people are going to feel like they can join in on that at some point. Have you ever been in a situation where, like, you are thinking, well, I can say this, but you can't, and it causes this.
Amy
I think that with a lot of spouses, I could be wrong, but with my ex husband and I, I could say something about my mom, but if he did, I did not like that.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
But he was honestly having my back.
Kat
Yes.
Amy
But suddenly it was no longer okay.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Because I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Kat
You get defensive.
Amy
Yeah. And I feel like that's a common thing where, like, you're allowed to say something about your parents but not your partner.
Kat
So if that is how you feel, what I would say is, is just name that of I need a vent or I need to talk about this, but I don't want you to give it back. I want you to just listen. Because sometimes do need to talk about those things. Like if you did, he's your husband. Like, you know, or he'll. You'll need to realize that if I'm sharing this, he might also. I mean, it's the same thing you're talking about. Like, people start to believe it. Like what we say people then believe. And so I'm putting that into his head. So he's going to believe this and you're his number one, so he's going to want to support you. So it makes sense that he would say some things.
Amy
Right. The final thing you should never do in front of others is don't brag. Confidence speaks. Insecurity announces itself. That's a good one.
Kat
I've heard. Confidence is quiet. Insecurity is loud. And it's the same kind of regard, just different words. Does that make sense?
Amy
Say it again.
Kat
Confidence is quiet. Insecurity is very loud.
Amy
Oh, insecurity is loud. I thought you said, and security is loud. And I was like, interesting.
Kat
I don't get it. Can you say it again?
Amy
One more time? What's that you say?
Kat
I think that's kind of one of the easier of these. Bragging doesn't come natural to me.
Amy
Me neither.
Kat
I hope. Do you?
Amy
I. Yeah. I know. I'm trying to think, like, me too, right?
Kat
Am I a bragger?
Amy
We're around each other a lot. Do you.
Kat
I don't think that you brag.
Amy
It's okay. You can say, I don't.
Kat
I couldn't. Name one thing you bragged about.
Amy
I'm making sure I don't. I don't.
Kat
Do I brag to you?
Amy
No. No, I don't think we did.
Kat
No.
Caller/Listener
No.
Amy
Piper, no. Oh. Shannon just typed in our doc. Neither of you are braggers.
Kat
Probably the opposite. We probably need to brag a little bit more.
Amy
Yeah, ours is not. Oh, confidence speaks. Insecurity announces itself. So we can say things about ourselves confidently. Yeah, but we're not, like, bragging.
Kat
We're not, like, oh, guess what I did. I'm so cool.
Caller/Listener
Mm.
Amy
We've got a closet tip. That's going to be our. Our first voicemail. This is Erica. She's from Oklahoma, which. Our first email from Casey. She was from Oklahoma, too. So this is a Oklahoma.
Kat
Oklahoma.
Amy
Heavy episode. Shout out to everyone in Oklahoma that's listening.
Caller/Listener
Hey, y'. All.
Kat
Hey.
Amy
Oh, was Oklahoma. Was that where maternal instinct happened? Or is that the corner of Wait?
Kat
I don't know, but.
Amy
Well, we already. We've already gone into it if. If you haven't watched that yet. We talked a little. A little bit about it on Tuesday, and. Boy, that's a. A doozy on Netflix. We talked about it on the Bobby Bone show, too. And I did give a palate cleanser on Netflix, which is voicemails to Isabel.
Kat
Is it like a sweet something?
Amy
It is a rom com, but all the feels. So you cry, laugh, smile, want to be her.
Kat
You don't just become catatonic like I did.
Amy
I know. I definitely got that way, too. But since you're already on Netflix, if you need a palette cleanser or you need something to watch this weekend, it's a new movie that they put out. That is so stinking cute.
Kat
Voicemails to what?
Amy
Isabelle.
Kat
Isabelle, you're gonna cry.
Amy
Oh, my gosh. You're gonna be bawling.
Kat
The other day, I was laying in bed looking at tick tocks and I cry easily. In general, I'll cry at like a dog video. I'll cry at, like, when people come home from being deployed. I cry at anything emotional. It was a video on what to pack in your hospital bag for pregnancy, for delivering your baby. I'm gonna do it now. I don't know why. It just made me boohoo.
Amy
Because you're gonna be packing.
Kat
I don't know. Patrick looked at me, he was like, what are you watching? And I was like, it's not even supposed to cry. So I probably will be crying in this movie then.
Amy

So Erica's got a closet tip for us and before y' all hear this, just know when Kat and I were playing this voicemail and listening to it before we recorded, we were like, okay, that's a really good tip. Like I think I might start doing this with everything that I wear. So here's what Erica had to say.
Caller/Listener
Hey guys. Okay, you are my favorite podcast to listen to. I've heard Kat say a couple times talk about how Amy always has super cute outfits and always looks put together and she feels like she never is. Well, I felt like that for years and years and years and I am 34 or 35, I don't remember one of the two. And I've always wanted to do a capsule wardrobe but never could quite figure it out. But what I did start doing was getting all my pieces that I felt good in and if when I wore it, if I did not feel good in it that day, whether it be the top or the pants or both, the whole outfit, I put it in the donate pile. If I did feel good in a certain article of clothing, I put it back in the closet. And then there's some pieces that only look good with a certain other piece in my closet. So I have paired them with each other on hangers to make an outfit. So I'm never second guessing and being like, oh, what did I like? What pants did I like? With this top, if it only looks good with one other thing, I just put it together on the hanger and it's always an outfit that I know that I'm going to feel good in. And then all the other pieces that can go with multiple different things, I have narrowed them down to only keeping them if after I wear them, I totally feel good in them. And that has helped so much and I hope that's helpful for you. Oh, and my name is Erica. I'm from Oklahoma and like I said, I'm somewhere in my mid-30s. I have a teenager and two toddlers. So, you know, I'm not really sure what year it is or how old I am. Okay, thanks.
Amy
Bye. Okay, now that that's played real talks of behind the scenes, we hope we haven't played that voicemail before. We don't think that we have because when, when we listen to it where like some parts sound familiar. But honestly, I feel like I wouldn't for I wouldn't forget a tip like that of like when I'm putting on clothes, wearing them throughout the day, like, how do I feel in this? And then should I just, when I take it off, immediately put it in the donate pile because I don't need to wear it again if it didn't make me feel good. Like, it's an easy way to get a. Get one more wear out of it and see how you really feel about it instead of just trying to look at your closet, standing there and trying to remember or decide how you feel about certain clothes.
Kat
I feel like if we played that before, that'd be really. What's it called when you have no memory, I don't know, Goldfish brain of us. Because we both were like, oh, that's a really good tip.
Amy
I know, but it came in over a month ago. And so that's what makes me think like, well, surely in the last month we haven't played that. I don't remember. And that's the thing when y' all send us voicemails, you never know when your voicemail might pop up. And we may play one from, you know, six months ago, February coming up. You never know. So thank you for that tip, Erica. I think that's great that you discovered a way to build your capsule wardrobe because that whole process can be overwhelming. But when you want to do something that's hard, you just got to get after it, which sounds like what you're doing because, you know, like the old Chinese proverb, the best time to plant a tree.
Kat
Now?
Amy
No, 20 years ago. Because then it would be like this fruitful tree. So when's the second best time to build or to plant the tree?
Kat
Now.
Amy
Yes.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
Yeah, got it. Speaking of trees, this is where birds
Kat
hang out and that's a really good segue.
Amy
Our next voicemail is from a caller who didn't share their name. We have named the caller Anonymous bird lover. And I don't know where they are from. So here it is.
Caller/Listener
Hey, Amy, about your bird feeder. That's losing suction. If you take and put a little bit of oil on the suction before you stick it to the window, it will hold better. The problem is that water evaporates when people use water to keep the suction on there. But the oil will hold it better. So you might want to try that. Okay. I'm really enjoying your podcast. I'm glad I started listening. Have a great day. Thanks. Bye.
Amy
All right, so who knew a little oil.
Kat
So are you going to try that before you get a new bird feeder?
Amy
Are you still? No, I think I was over the suction cups coming through my window. I didn't even really like seeing them. So I want the pretty stand with the. So I'm still shopping for the best one. You'd be surprised how difficult it is to find one that at least passes my vibe check. Yeah, sort of.
Kat
Like, did you get the same one you had at your old house?
Amy
I couldn't find it anymore. Oh, I don't know if that was a different seller on Amazon. Plus, while I loved those, it wasn't my favorite. But I did look it up and they weren't there. I'm trying to wonder what happened to my pole. My mother in law had gifted that to me. It was a. It was a double, double doozy, a double swinger, a double feeder. Like, it had hooks that would open up on both sides. And I don't know if I left that at the house like when I moved, but I didn't mean to. So like, could I go get it if it's in the backyard and they don't have a bird feeder? I know. I feel like I just. That's my bird feeder pole thingy.
Kat
What if it was also, like, sentimental? You could, like, contact the seller, the people that bought your house, and be like, this was from my ex husbands, where you could.
Amy
Mom.
Kat
I was saying you could lie, but
Amy
I don't want to lie.
Kat
Okay, don't lie. But you can say it's for my ex husband's mom. It means a lot to me if you guys aren't using it. I've seen it back.
Amy
Shannon looked up what it's called. It's called a double shepherd hook. I guess that's why I didn't know how to describe it. But now we do the double shepherd.
Kat
So you're listening and you bought Amy's house. Do they even know?
Amy
Definitely not listening. Yes, they do know, because I think they wanted to buy my house after they heard, oh, signs of me moving on the radio. And then they reached out to my neighbor because they knew my neighbor lived by me. And they said, is Amy selling her house? I said, we don't know, but she does have a dumpster in her yard right now or my driveway. And then they sent me a text and said, are you moving? Because we have someone that maybe wants to buy your house. And then they did.
Kat
Then maybe they are listening. And if you are listening and you're not using the bird feeder, the double shepherd hook, you know, let us know.
Caller/Listener
Holla.
Amy
Our next voicemail is about laundry.
Kat
It's riveting,
Amy
but it's. It's a main tip for you, Kat, because you know, you're obsessed with your baby laundry detergent, and apparently that can get expensive.
Kat
It is expensive. It is.
Amy
So this is a tip about that.
Caller/Listener
Hi, Amy and Kat, this is your friend Brianna from Pennsylvania. I have emailed you guys previously when I lived in North Carolina, messaging about having pcos and then getting pregnant. I am excited for your news. Something I wanted to call in about. I know you guys are all about laundry. Well, Amy more specifically. But Kat, you were mentioning about using the baby laundry detergent for your baby's clothes. And while that is great, I find it to be quite expensive. So I actually use the free and clear, either the all brand or I've recently switched to powder detergent and it's way cheaper. And then I can wash everyone's clothes with it, not just my babies. So just to help you save some money and hopefully get all things ready for Baby girls arrival. I would recommend switching to a different lunch detergent just to help you in the future have the day you guys need to have. And thanks so much. Bye.
Amy
All right, we got in a Pennsylvania, two Oklahoma's, a Missouri. Where are you listening from? Like, we love hearing y' all are from, but I feel like we some states aren't being represented lately. So send us. Send us your tips and tricks and questions. Anything, everything. Thank you for that laundry tip.
Kat
I like this tip, but it's the smell.
Amy
I know it's the smell. The free and clear won't have.
Kat
What's weird is I'm hearing that also scents are very sensitive to babies. Yet this is a baby detergent that smells so good.
Amy
Yeah, but they're marketing that to you, not the baby. Correct?
Kat
What? I'm getting duped or something?
Amy
I saw a woman in her 50s pop up in my feed and she said she went entirely scent free and it has changed her life. Now you can't avoid smells if you go somewhere else but her home. None of her cleaning products have smell. Her shampoo and conditioner don't have a smell. She created her own smell hair care line and different. She had to create her own products because she couldn't find.
Kat
So what does she smell like then? What does her house smell like? What is it? I want to know what her scent is. If she has no other scents coming
Amy
in to her world, I wonder can she use again? She popped up on my fip. I don't know her. I didn't do a deep dive, so I don't know. But does anybody else out there listening? Do y' all have a scent free lifestyle and is like lemon count? Because if I get a lemon out of my fridge and squeeze it on my countertop, you know, or down my drain for your countertop, depending on what kind of countertop you have. I'm not saying that's what you could use, but some people use lemons to clean certain things.
Kat
Yeah, like a grill. People do that with their grill.
Amy
Yeah, like a grill.
Kat
A lemon.
Amy
Can you. You can't rub an apple. Can you rub an apple? Apples smell like.
Kat
Rub it on your body.
Amy
No, this is what I want to know. Like if you did want to smell like something, could you smell like fruit?
Kat
Wait, but not.
Amy
She has no essential oils.
Kat
Can you have like a natural.
Amy
No. She is 100% as much as is in her control scent free.
Kat
What's the benefit?
Amy
Her whole hormonal system. Because it's a certain smells. Like they say perfume can be an endocrine disruptor.
Kat
That sounds fancy.
Amy
I'm not an expert, but it can be disruptive to your hormones. Now everybody's going to be impacted a different way. Like, there's some people that they cannot walk into a room. If someone has on a lot of perfume, they will instantly get a headache, and they have to go, yeah, like, it's. And it's.
Kat
I just didn't know if there was a specific thing this person was trying to.
Amy
Well, she did build a business around it, so I see where it's in her favor to sell this lifestyle. But she got passionate about it after she eliminated scents from her life. And then she changed and, like, how she felt and how her skin was. Like, how her hair grew better, like.
Kat
But, like, does she ever just want to light a candle?
Caller/Listener
I know.
Kat
And smell it.
Amy
I know.
Kat
You know, I'm sure she can get an unscented candle, but that's a different vibe.
Amy
Yeah, that's not the same thing. She ever just light an apple? You know what fruit I've been crushing on lately?
Kat
Watermelon.
Amy
But no. No.
Kat
Dang it. I thought you were gonna say that. And then we'd be the same.
Amy
Raspberries and blackberries. Although they will break the bank. I tell you what berries are. I read an whole article the other day on MO News. He saw his. You saw this in his newsletter. There was this whole thing about berries are causing people to go broke. And kids. Kids love berries, too. And, like, you want your kids to eat berries, and then I have to yell at my kids, diversify your fruit.
Kat
I've heard you say, because they don't all bite. Wait, was it like Stevenson was eating too much pineapple or something? Did he? I think that it was. There was a time when he ate, like, your pineapple or something.
Amy
Well, no, it's all of our pineapple. But if he eats all of it in one sitting, when there's apples, oranges, pineapples, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, bananas. Like, if. If he would diversify his fruit in that sitting, then everybody would get to enjoy all the different fruits. Well, yeah, what the kids will do is they'll be like, oh, blackberries.
Kat
And.
Amy
But instead of making, you know, cutting up an apple and then having a few blackberries and then a banana and, you know, diversifying the fruit. He'll just eat all the blackberries because it's a tiny container.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
And then all the blackberries are gone, and nobody else got any. So that's. I'm always saying, diversify your fruit. That's good because you got it. I mean, the berries, those are the expensive parts you got to sprinkle in the. The cheaper fruit. You need to, like, gotta throw in a banana.
Kat
I was gonna say. Or cantaloupe or a honeydew. You know, when you get a fruit salad at a restaurant, they always pack it with the melons. And then you get, like, a half a strawberry and, like, two blueberries.
Amy
Yeah, well, I mean, you can have a little more than that, but I just want to see some fruit diversity so that you don't take them. But I found some on sale at Kroger, and I only went to Kroger because I saw. Also in my fyp, I saw this list of grocery stores that are like. Like the most expensive to shop at.
Kat
Is it Publix?
Amy
Publix was on there. Unless you do their bogo.
Kat
I was gonna say you have to let Publix do the shopping for you.
Amy
Yeah. I mean, I love Publix because. And that's predominantly where I go. But I was leaving Pilates the other day, and I was driving right past a Kroger, and I thought, I'm gonna pull in there. Sure enough, they had way better prices. But you know what? I'm a Texas girl, so I miss Heb. Heb has the best prices ever.
Kat
I just think that this is getting into adult conversations I never realized I would have. But Publix produce is just so much better to me than Kroger's.
Amy
I don't know. I'm having a good experience right now.
Kat
Okay, you had a good experience. Well, then that. That'll. Because Kroger's more convenient for me. But what Patrick has taught me is you. His quote, let Publix do the shopping for you. And when you do their bogo stuff,
Amy
you save so much now they mark
Kat
their prices up anyway, so you're not saving as much as you think. But you get some deals. Like, some days we get some crazy deals. Sometimes they have buy two, get two free Diet Cokes, 12 packs. That's such a good deal. You better believe I walk out with at least four packs Diet Coke.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
Then it's like, I don't have to buy Diet Coke for another two months.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
That's something that gets me excited.
Amy
You really are. Yeah. You're almost. You're almost out of breath. You're so excited.
Kat
It's easy for me to get out of breath these days.
Amy
Not everybody had. It has a Trader Joe's near them, and. But that can be a great place for Produce because the prices are so much better. But the parking lots are always kind of difficult.
Kat
Why is it?
Amy
I don't know.
Kat
It's like they've only put Trader Joe's in inconvenient places. I literally used to have to do, like, breathing exercises before I went to the one that was in Green Hills.
Amy
Oh, yeah, that one can be pretty. If you go at the right time, it's fine. Like, right when it opens,
Kat
nobody else
Amy
is in the parking lot. But other than that, if you go at a prime time, yeah, parking can be very, very, very stressful. I saw a funny little, like, meme about that a long time ago where someone was, like, acting like they were Trader Joe's employees and they're the ones that come up with where the new locations are going to be, and they would just pick, like, the most complicated parking lot situation ever. They're like, that's it. That's it. That's where we should put it.
Kat
So that's a universal thing, then. It's not just.
Amy
It's like a joke then they do
Kat
do it on purpose.
Amy
Well, I don't so much. They do it so much so that people are thinking they do it on purpose, but I don't think they do. It's probably a. Maybe it's part of their. Why they can keep certain costs low.
Kat
I was thinking more it's like marketing, because they. The parking lots always seem chaotic, so that means that people are always there. And, like, you have to, like, it takes a lot of energy and stuff to go. Yeah.
Amy
Or it looks like, oh, wow, people here. I need to be here. Or. It's so hard to get a parking spot.
Kat
It's so hard to get a parking spot.
Amy
You're right. Maybe that's the psychology behind it.
Kat
Yeah.
Caller/Listener
Okay.
Kat
Look at them go.
Amy
All right, well, I think we found our quote of the day, and that's diversify your fruit. But we'll end with our everyday quote, which is, we hope you have the
