Amy
Happy Tuesday. Welcome to Feeling Things. I'm Amy.
Kat
And I'm Kat.
Amy
And out of the gate, I need to just let y' all know that Kat has an ice pack she's hiding in her pants.
Kat
It's not pants. It is if I can get it. It took me a while to get it back here. It's just behind my back. I'm having a hot flash.
Amy
Pregnancy hot flash.
Kat
So also, to be fair, there's a lot of lights in this room.
Amy
Yes. What size fruit is the baby now?
Kat
Well, funny you should ask. It's a cauliflower, which is a head of cauliflower, which is not a fruit, but.
Amy
Okay. Well, a vegetable.
Kat
Yeah. The app has or item kind of taken some liberties with fruit. So it is a cauliflower. However, it.
Caller/Listener
It's not.
Kat
Again, we have to remember it's not as big as. I mean, yes, my stomach is as big as a cauliflower, but it's the length of a head of cauliflower.
Amy
Yeah, got it.
Kat
And I feel it now. I feel the cauliflower in my stomach.
Amy
Speaking of feelings, my feeling of the day is frustrated. Let me give you the scenario and see how you would feel. So I went to this place to get something that I have been obsessed with for the last month or so, and it's this matcha drink, but they mix it with coconut water and strawberries and this cold foam stuff. It's so delicious. I went there specifically for that because I needed some caffeine after I finished the Bobby Bone show. Then when I get there, they're hyping up this new thing they have, which is the same concoction, but without matcha. It's an espresso shot. So swap out the matcha and the strawberries for just coffee. Everyone's been loving it. Some guy has come here Twice a day for it. It's so good. So I was like, okay, I'll give it a go. So I get it, and I get in my car and I'm driving to come meet you, and it's disgusting.
Kat
It's. To be fair, it doesn't sound good.
Amy
Well, apparently it's viral on TikTok, and everyone's loving it so much that they added to the menu, which I'm sure some people love it. For me, it's not my cup of tea, so I'm frustrated because I went there specifically for something that I love. I crave. It's so yummy. I don't get it all the time because it's not really convenient for me. And then it's expensive. So then I don't like this coffee concoction. And because it's expensive, I drank the whole thing.
Kat
And every sip I'm like, get my $10.
Amy
Every sip was like, you got. And I frustrated, frustrated. Then there's feelings. Now I'm disappointed. And now I may be even a little annoyed because I was sold on this product that I don't like, and now I feel as though I should get what I wanted for free.
Kat
So, yeah, if you were not in a rush, maybe you could have been like, well, let me taste it.
Amy
But I don't think they're gonna whip up one for me to just try.
Kat
Well, have you ever been at a. I've been to, like, a bar before where I'm like, oh, I don't know what I want. Like, what do you recommend? And they'll recommend a drink, and I'm like, oh, I don't know. And they'll say, like, I'm gonna make it for you. If you don't like it, I'll make you something else. So I feel like that could be similar if you were lingering there.
Amy
If I was lingering, yeah. No, but I was trying to be in and out. I mean, I had to race over, and I was convinced. And if any of you have seen this viral trend on TikTok and you're enjoying it, great. Or you want to buy the stuff to make it at home, it might not be as. But it's pricey.
Kat
Explain it. It's just coconut water and espresso. Nothing else. You don't get the foam or anything?
Amy
No. There was the cold foam on top, which that's a yummy concoction that they whip up. And then I think they sprinkled some coconut sugar on top, which I could have done without a little granular. When it was going through the straw. Like, I was like, but, yeah, but no, I just. So now I'm gonna have to go back because now I'm still craving matcha.
Kat
So tomorrow suits me to 20. It's really gonna be a 20 matcha,
Amy
which is, like, so ridiculous. Yeah, I've got. I did buy some coconut water when I was at the store the other day, and I do have some matcha. It's just a cold foam thing that I want. I need to learn how to whip up. So I was googling some different recipes on how I could make that, but the concoction is just so nice. And then the dehydrated strawberries, I'd have to order some of those. I know that I could whip it
Kat
up for at Home for Less grocery store and buy them. You have to order them.
Amy
Just any regular grocery store carries dehydrated strawberries.
Kat
Yeah, I found Kroger. Yes. Okay.
Amy
Target.
Kat
Really? Because that's a. It's also, like a. A food that, like, babies eat dehydrated fruit. I asked Patrick recently to get me some healthy snacks when he went to the grocery store, came out with packs of dehydrated strawberries and, like, bananas and stuff.
Amy
Oh, so it'd be over in, like, the. The granola. Oh, baby food. But also over by granola. They do have, like, dried mango and stuff.
Kat
Yes, yes, yes. Yeah. Oh, I didn't get that.
Amy
I was just thinking, this is a specialty item, but you're right.
Kat
No, I think you could get that at a normal grocery store. I will say the matcha. I like matcha. That sounds really good. And I like coffee, but that coffee does not sound good to me. So I do want to commend you on being adventurous. That was really cool of you. I also know that feeling, you know, like when you go to a restaurant and you're like, I get the same thing every time. I'm gonna branch out and be crazy. And then you get something different, and you're like, this is. Sometimes you're like, this is fine, but now I still want this other meal. It's like, you're not. You. What you didn't do. You got the caffeine, but you didn't actually fulfill the craving you were having, and so you're not satisfied until tomorrow. Until tomorrow. When you get.
Amy
When I can get it, maybe they'll
Kat
ask you, did you like that drink we gave you yesterday? And you can be like, well, to be honest, I hated it. And they'll be like, well, give me this one for Free our bad.
Amy
Yeah, maybe I'll give it a go. I have no problem being like, nope, that drink's not for me. Yeah, I mean, I won't do it with the intention of getting something free. I just would give my honest feedback of like, yeah, it's probably not for me, but hey, you know, I was adventurous and I tried it.
Kat
Yeah. Go TikTok.
Amy
What's your feeling of the day?
Kat
Well, hot. I was gonna say exhausted because I just got. I have been traveling so much lately. I feel like I went to a wedding, then I went our baby moon. Then I went to Arizona with you and then I just went on bachelorette trip. And bachelorette trips are different when you are pregnant.
Amy
Very.
Kat
Now this was the bachelorette trip to go on if you were gonna go on a pregnant one. Cause it was very low key. But I do have a question that doesn't come up from this trip.
Amy
Okay.
Kat
In your days of bachelorette tripping, do you guys do lingerie showers?
Amy
Yeah, I. I guess it depends what the bride wants. Because I feel like for you you just wanted cozy pajamas. Not.
Kat
I wanted cute. So I wasn't just wearing like a T shirt and sweatpants. I did not want lingerie because I knew I wasn't going to wear it. But I wanted cute. Yeah, Pajamas.
Amy
Yeah. At my bachelorette party, it was encouraged to bring lingerie.
Kat
Okay. Did you try the lingerie on for everybody?
Amy
No. No. Why? Did she.
Kat
Have you ever been to a bachelorette party where they did that?
Amy
No.
Kat
No. Okay, so this was really interesting. I've. This is the second time I've been to a bachelorette party where the bride has been encouraged to try the lingerie on for everybody.
Amy
Really?
Kat
The first one was my sister in laws and she was like, no one. She wasn't going to do that because that's not her personality. But also me and my sister were there and I was like, no offense, but I don't want to see you in the lingerie that you're about to wear with my little baby brother.
Amy
Yeah, it's. It's awkward enough when you think of who's in attendance. Because thinking back at my bachelorette party for that part of it now my mom and my mother. Mother in law to be ended up leaving. They weren't there the whole night. But for the gift opening which included some lingerie, they were there. Oh yeah. My friend Jill set up pin the. Pin the penis on. On Ben. No, it was Ben. It was a life size photo of Ben and she was blindfolding people, spinning them around and you had to pin the.
Kat
Which is funny.
Amy
Like, pin the tail.
Kat
Donkey mother is not your mother in law.
Amy
My mother in law. So his mom was there and then my friend Jill was like, you need any ice cubes? And, like would go up and fill everybody's glasses up. And she had made these ice cubes in the shape of the. The donkey tail in the tail on the donkey, just in case kids are listening. But you know, she. And. And I'd be like, oh, my gosh. She had big ice cubes and small ice cubes. And she went up to my mother in law, she was like, ice cubes. And my mother was like, oh, sure. She was like big. And then she put him in a cup.
Kat
And was your birthday like a night or was it a.
Amy
It was just a night. We were in Austin. We didn't go out of town. It was like in house. And so there was the first part of the night with them. So I can't imagine trying on the lingerie with my mom and mother in law in attendance.
Kat
Yeah. So which I will say that the donkey tails used to be really pop. Those have kind of. People don't really do that stuff as much.
Amy
Yeah, this is 2000.
Kat
But that was really popular back then. But then this bachelorette party, there were kind of two groups of friends. It was like her college friends and their post college friends. And all of her college friends were like, try it on, try it on. And then we were like, we have. It's okay if you don't. Like. If she wanted to, it would be. If she wanted to do that, I would be happy for her. But she's also not that kind of person. It was just interesting that it was so normal for them. And I think they all did it at their bachelorette parties. And I didn't even want lingerie. So it's. I for sure wouldn't be trying it on in front of everybody.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
I just didn't know how common that was. So no go for you. And you've never seen that?
Amy
Not that I can recall. So I'll keep you posted.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
If I ever go to one or if I get married again, which I was thinking about this. If I get married again, do I have a bachelorette party?
Kat
Yes, again, you have to do something. It doesn't have to be like a trip, but. Yeah, a night or something to celebrate.
Amy
I feel like people would be like, why? This is your second marriage. Why are. Why are you doing that? So do you. Do you want me to do one and try on.
Kat
Yeah, Just say that.
Amy
Lingerie.
Kat
Okay. So it. Would you.
Amy
Would I try it on?
Kat
Yes.
Amy
No, no, no, no, no, no. I don't want to do that. That feels weird, even with my friends. But I mean, I get it. And not weird in a bad way. If somebody wanted to do that, if they want to get that. Oh, fun. Oh. Woohoo. You're so sexy. I'm okay.
Kat
It could be like a pump up.
Caller/Listener
Okay.
Kat
Make you feel really?
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Kat
I'd be more.
Amy
This is awkward. I'm awkward.
Kat
I think that's what it is. Just people's personalities are different.
Amy
Okay. This is a voicemail from Sam. She's calling from Boston. Here it is.
Caller/Listener
Hi, Amy and Kat. I'm listening to this week's coach Talks. When Kat was talking about how her friend thought that a guy stood her up, but he ended up dying or something like that. So my mom and my stepdad, they've been together for 22 years now, married 13 years, and they met on a blind date. Like the OG blind date. Friend from a friend, didn't know what each other looked like. They were emailing back and forth saying, this is what I'm gonna be wearing so you can like figure out who I was when you see me at a restaurant. So my stepdad, now stepdad, came to the restaurant, met my mom and said, hey, I have to leave. My dad just died and my mom has, you know, trust issues with men. And she was convinced that he was lying. But truth be told, his dad actually did die and he didn't want her to think that he would put her up. So he went to the date to say he has to leave the date. And again, they've been. They're happily married 13 years. And yeah, I thought it was a funny story. Sam from Boston. I was 29, but I just turned 30. But so my 20s, when I listen.
Amy
Ah, we love when we get someone in their 20s that listens. I don't know why. We started tracking people listening to their 20s and we put a call out,
Kat
like, because we didn't think anybody any gen zers were listening to us. Turns out, turns out they love us.
Amy
Sam, she's listening now. Sam referenced a story we talked about in a previous episode about our friend that went on a date with somebody. It was their second date, first date went well. So that's why she was shocked when he didn't show up for the second date. And she literally thought he stood her up. And she was very upset. Come to find out, yeah, he died. So, yeah, her. Yep. His absence Was valid.
Kat
Yeah. Now this. I think it's very cute that they met on a blind. Like a true blind date. Like, do you. You weren't a blind date with your.
Amy
No, with my husband or any of your. Oh, well, yeah, I mean, I guess, sort of. But you knew it wasn't a blind date. Yeah, because I googled him and knew a lot about him and then knew I knew too much. Like, blind dates are hard these days because the Internet.
Kat
Internet.
Amy
The last true blind date I went on, I was 24 maybe, and I went to a George Strait concert with.
Kat
Yeah, you committed to like a four hour event.
Amy
Well, George is my favorite. So my sisters in laws, they remodeled their bathroom and whatever tile guy they used, which I was in tile sales at this time, so they thought we would be Amy Love style, the perfect match. I guess they're like, he's single. Like, we just. He's been at our house like all week. We've just had the best time getting to know him. We've got tickets to George Strait. Like we're gonna give them to him and he's gonna ask you, so be prepared. He's gonna call you. And I was like, well, I really want to go to George Strait, so. Okay, fine. At least we'll have tile to talk about. And this is when I was first introduced to Dirk Spentley too, because I. He was new on the scene. This was probably 2005 or so. And I don't really go to the openers that often, but this guy wanted to go experience the entire concert, so he picked me up. Blind date.
Kat
We go.
Amy
Dirks Bentley's the opener. I'm like, oh, I actually like this person. Like, so that's when I was first introduced to Dirks. And then of course, we had a good time at George. And that was our only date because you. It just wasn't a match.
Kat
But you had a good time. Had a good time because of George Strait.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
Or because of the company of George Strait.
Amy
And he was okay. He was fine. But I knew we were not gonna be together, so there was no point in going on a second date. Like, if we had planned a second date and he didn't show up, I'd have been like, okay.
Kat
But I felt that way about.
Amy
Oh yeah. Your first date. Your first date with your husband was sort of wamp.
Kat
No, no, no, no, no. Our first. I would not describe it that way.
Amy
Okay, how would you describe it?
Kat
Our first date was good. It was good because.
Amy
Awkward.
Kat
No, no. That was not our first date.
Amy
You are this Is revisionist history. No. Now that you're married, I don't want him to know. You don't want him to know. He knows this.
Kat
Okay. Our first date, it was three hours long. It was a good. We met at a bar. I also. We kind of had a blind date because his dating profile pictures were so bad. I had no idea what he was going to end up looking like.
Caller/Listener
Katie.
Kat
I had no idea he had a Halloween costume on in one picture. One was a group photo, like from far away.
Amy
A group photo on a dating profile?
Kat
Yes. So multiple photos. But what I liked about that was that you could tell he did not care that much about, like, what he was like, looking like. And like, you see some dating profiles and the guys are weight and I.
Amy
It's very curated.
Kat
Yes. And I'm like, if they're doing that for themselves, I'm going to feel self conscious because I don't care that much. So I. He was down to earth. Anyway, the date, I. The date was good. I wish I could go back and, like, look at my text from you because the date was a good date. What I loved. And this is like, the bar is low. But he asked me so many questions to the point where I would try to ask him questions and he would always turn it back to me and I'm like, okay, I. I'm talking about myself too much. But he was very inquisitive. Very, like, just in. Into getting to know me. He was very kind. He walked me to my car. He hadn't got my phone number yet, so he asked me for, like, it was a good date. But I left that date being like, I don't feel any, like, crazy chemistry or spark, which is good. And so if he never would have reached back out, I wouldn't have been devastated. I wasn't like, that was the best day of my life. Now, looking back, it was because it's like, brought me to where I am now. But in that moment, it was just an average date. I would say it was average.
Amy
Fair. I shouldn't have spoken for you. There's also other details.
Kat
Yes.
Amy
That you don't have to share on here that I know about where I wouldn't have thought this was who you were gonna marry.
Kat
Oh, I told. I've told Patrick this. I told my friends. They said something about. I was at a dinner one night and I was talking about him and my friend Michelle was like, what if he ends up being your husband? And I was like, he'll never be my husband.
Amy
Thank you. Okay. See, that Helps put a clarity to kind of what I was saying.
Kat
He. I. By, like, fourth date, I would have. That wasn't how I was thinking.
Amy
And now you just. How did we bite him? Every time he walks in the door, you're like, yeah, I follow some cute little cartoon account. They're like these fuzzy little animals. Did I send it to you? Oh, okay, good. Because I saw it, and I thought of you. And they act they're adults, but they're fuzzy little animals. And this couple, they're in a relationship, and the girl one goes over to the guy, and it's demonstrating that this is her showing love, and she starts biting his arm. And I was like, this is cat. Yeah.
Kat
You sent it to me. I sent it to Patrick, and I think he said accurate.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
And then now he's getting those, so he's sending them to me.
Amy
So I think we got on this because she referenced the. The guy that showed up that died, and then the dating, and then the mom has trust issues. So the fact that her mom ended up giving this guy a chance instead of thinking, oh, he's lying to me.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Amy
But, like, who would show up and say, my dad died as their excuse?
Kat
You just wouldn't go to the gate as the lie.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
Like, you would think you would just email and be like, my dad died.
Amy
She's a different li. Or like, my car broke down, flat tire. But like, he showed up in person.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
So delivered the news character. Or what if he showed up in person, saw her, and it was like, my dad died. I have to go, you know?
Kat
Well, that's what at first I thought, but then after revisiting it, I think he. The dad had died previous, maybe recent, but, like, right before the date, not on the date. I know somebody. This isn't. This is a friend of a friend who was on a first date with a skydiver. They're on a first date. His job was skydiving. So he has a lot of friends at skydive. On the date, he gets a phone call. His best friend
Amy
died.
Kat
Died on the first date.
Amy
While skydiving.
Kat
While skydiving. Isn't that scary?
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
They ended up dating because I think that's this. I mean, I'm sure there's other reasons, but that has to, like, imagine you're on a first date with somebody and you're kind of supporting them through getting that phone call.
Amy
Yeah. You're. You're bonding over something. The trauma bond pretty quickly.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Amy
The other. That's meant for more intimate relationships, like.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
A family member, a best friend, a romantic partner.
Kat
Yeah. And that's one of the reasons that I will never, ever, ever, ever skydive
Amy
because of that story.
Kat
I already wasn't going to, but then I def. I'm like, I don't know this person.
Amy
You die in car wrecks and you get in a car.
Kat
Yeah, but I. I need to get in a car. I don't need to skydive.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
You know, like, that to me, is if I know I can die from doing this. I don't really think that that kind of thing is fun. Why would I do it?
Amy
I did it once as, like, a bucket listing for my 30th birthday.
Kat
Did you want to do it again?
Amy
No, I don't want to do it again. I don't have a desire. It was cool to experience. Yay. Check that box. You know, something we might be doing on the Bobby Bone show is putting everybody's name on a wheel, and whoever it lands on has to go bungee jumping, and I do not want to do that.
Kat
Okay. Speaking of, be careful where you do it. Have. I don't know that we've talked about this, because not too long ago. This is a dark episode, guys. We're gonna bring it back up. But.
Amy
Yeah. Because coming up, I have the top 20 most common lies. We all say
Kat
watch out. Okay. Not too long ago. This is really sad. I forgot what country this was in. But there was a young woman in her 20s, and she. It wasn't bungee jumping. It was some other kind of rope jumping. And they threw her off the ledge and didn't attach the rope to her?
Amy
No.
Kat
Turns out, I don't think these people had a license to do what they were doing. But she was just in. Her fiance was there, saw it. Other people saw it. She didn't die immediately either, which is even worse.
Amy
You can tell I've been listening to too many true crime things because I'm like, her fiance was there.
Kat
Oh, you're like, thinking he's part of it? No, I don't think so.
Amy
Was he like, hate. I don't know what country they're in, but he's like, if I slip you 100, will you not hook her up? Who doesn't hook her up?
Kat
Well, that's the whole thing about it.
Amy
Where.
Kat
And I think there are people being like, don't. Well, because they. Somebody last minute saw. And there's a video of it too, that was going around the Internet. I can't believe you didn't see this.
Amy
I probably did. But we talk about so many stories that I forget it's gone in. Like sometimes we'll even on the Bobby One show, we do so many stories like that that sometimes I'm like, have we talked about this one before? Or is this another story? Cause around the world we're talking about em. Is it sad? Did you say, is it sad?
Kat
That's why? No, I said that's sad that you talk about so many crazy stories like that. That, like, there are so many that I thought.
Amy
I literally thought you'd go, is that sad? And I'm like, yeah, Kat.
Kat
Yeah, it is. This is what you would call a sad thing.
Amy
This is a sad thing.
Kat
Appropriate feeling with this is sadness. Shannon found this person. It was. She was 21. She plummeted 131ft to her death after bungee jump staff allegedly forgot to attach the safety cord.
Amy
So was bungee jumping.
Kat
Well, I thought it wasn't, but maybe it was. Six people have been arrested in connection with her.
Amy
So for. Arrested for negligence.
Kat
Yes or. Yes. Oh, I. I didn't hear any, like, foul play. I thought it was like a.
Amy
But also, I didn't either. I'm just saying my true crime brain is thinking it's not impossible.
Kat
I. When I was an adventure therapist at a treatment center back in the day, we had to do
Amy
ropes courses.
Kat
Ropes courses. Thank you. You just knew what I was thinking. And I felt very in the moat. And while I was doing that, I wasn't in charge of all that stuff. I got trained in it. But, like, again, ADHD over here.
Amy
Cat and adventure.
Kat
Well, also, it's like outdoorsy. Not me. Turns out they gave me that because this is crazy. They were about to do layoffs and I was in a contract position and there was an open adventure therapy position. And they didn't want me to get laid off. So they pretended like they just really wanted me in this position. I interviewed for it. I got it. So then I had a permanent position. So I didn't get laid off. Very kind. I only was in that job for about nine months and then they put me back and I was the primary therapist anyway. They what I liked about learning about all that stuff. I don't like doing that stuff. Is usually there's a safety for the safety. For the safety. There's like so many checks.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
That you feel really good about it. And like, there's books and records of everything and you have to write everything down. These people were not doing the safety for the safety. There was nothing.
Amy
Well, so Shannon just said that three men, ages 27, 32 and 42 were arrested at the scene and charged with homicide and implied malice. Brazil Civil Police is investigating the incident. So this happened in June, so it was about a month ago. So the story's developing.
Kat
Implied malice. So you are onto, onto the scent. Is that what they say on the scent?
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Kat
Don't they say that in the crime?
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Amy

Kat
Anyway, any positive things happened to you recently that you want to talk about?
Amy
Why? We can go into the lies.
Caller/Listener
Okay.
Amy
Because this.
Kat
Because we love life.
Amy
No, but I mean think of like if you're trying, trying to get out of a date, you might think you're doing this like innocent little lie, which these are the top 20 most common lies that we've all could be guilty of. Like in at number one. I'm Fine. Nothing's wrong. Now, this isn't a crazy lie, but you might say that just to answer the question, even though your life could be falling apart and you're not fine and everything is wrong, so that technically is a lie. Yeah, but you don't, I think, owe that answer to everybody.
Kat
But don't you think you say that when, like, somebody thinks you're mad at them and you're like, no, I'm fine. Nothing's wrong. Like, don't worry about it.
Amy
A good way to use it. And it's, like, to be a lie,
Kat
which I know you're mad at me,
Amy
so just go ahead and tell me so we can get this over with.
Caller/Listener
Right.
Amy
Good, good. Alternate use of that statement. Number two, I was stuck in traffic. There is a little traffic. There's always a little traffic.
Kat
So many of my clients, when they come late, they're like, oh, traffic. I got stopped at every red light, but I believe then there's a lot of lights around my office.
Amy
Three, you look great in that. Insert whatever outfit they have on, like, right now. Cats pregnancy pants. Cats pregnancy pants are. They're jeans. And she said twice so far today since we've been together, she goes, never. I'm never wearing these pants again. I'm saying that because if you ever see me in these pants, I can't believe I'm wearing them. They are up to her boobs.
Kat
Oh, they're not high enough is the problem.
Caller/Listener
I.
Amy
They're pretty high.
Kat
I texted you this morning, was like, oh, I'm gonna be in the same outfit for every podcast until I give birth. Because all that fits me is, like, leggings and tank tops.
Amy
But then you showed up in jeans.
Kat
I know, because I was like, catherine, get it together. And I did get these jeans that are. They were really great in the beginning of pregnancy. They're super stretchy and they're like leggings. They're. There's. They feel like leggings. However, the problem that I have now discovered as a seven plus month pregnant person is you either need to have something that goes all the way to your boobs or something that's underneath your bump because in the middle, it doesn't feel good. And these pants are. They are above the Bentley foot.
Amy
I. I do need to clarify. I forgot it's not the pants that are all the way up.
Kat
It's my underwear.
Amy
Underwear is all the way up to
Kat
her boobs, and that is actually very comfortable. And like, you.
Amy
I feel like after you give birth, you're gonna keep Wearing these, your. Your belly's gonna be gone, and you're gonna be wearing that underwear up to your boobs.
Kat
She loves them. I love them. They just. First of all, they're soft. They're not too tight. They're not too loose, and they just, like, kind of hold me together. But then my pants are cutting me off.
Amy
I get it, so. Well, I do think you look cute in those pants. But I do see how they're comfortable. But I don't think your underwear is cute. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie.
Kat
I love them. I bought two packs of them. They're the Mom Cozy brand. If anybody needs a recommendation, they will stretch with you throughout your pregnancy. So I can't recommend enough, but you probably should not wear these as your lingerie.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
Because they are. And they're not, like, cute colors. I think these are what?
Amy
Those are black. But you had. Definitely had a nude pair in Arizona.
Kat
I have a nude pair, and then I have, like, a peach nude pair. That was crazy.
Amy
We're on lie number four of the top 20 most common lies. I only had one beer. Oh, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I only had one beer. Or the drinks. It'll get tricky.
Kat
Of, like, the doctor's office, and they ask how often you drink.
Amy
Once a week.
Kat
And how many drinks do you have?
Amy
One.
Kat
One.
Amy
Or you're getting pulled over. Yeah, I just had one Five. My phone died. I guess if you're. Someone's been trying to get a hold of you or.
Kat
But you could sneak that out. It's like. But it rang.
Amy
Oh, yeah. True. Because if it rings more than once, it's not dead.
Kat
Right.
Amy
Right. Yeah. I had no way to contact you. Okay, maybe what is.
Kat
Yes, you did.
Amy
I never got the message.
Kat
Oh, yeah. Okay. Yeah.
Amy
But mine. I really don't think. If I didn't see your text, like, I really must have missed it, because I do miss text, but what are
Kat
you ever like, oh, the text. I never got that text. Like, literally, like, it never came through.
Amy
And then you show them. What if they're, like, deleted? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. I'll call you right back.
Kat
I mean that you were perturbed with me today when I had to call you back. Oh.
Amy
So Kat is getting gas, and she's like, you're not allowed to talk on the cell phone when you're getting gas. Which I've heard that. Or I see it on the tanks. But is it true?
Kat
I don't know. I just have heard that it's bad for something.
Amy
I mean, is it bad for you to hold the phone next to your. The gas tank?
Kat
Why is that?
Amy
Well, I assume because that's, that's the bad part is the phone being near the gas. I don't think it's bad for your brain. Did you say. Were you asking if it's bad for the brain?
Kat
I was thinking gas fumes plus. But. Plus phone near your head. I don't know. Nobody's ever explained it, but they've told me.
Amy
I mean, I get no smoking near the gas tank.
Kat
But people smoke at gas stations all the time though.
Amy
But like, right by the.
Kat
Yeah, no, it's not.
Amy
Well, I don't know, but cav's like, I gotta call you back. I was like, okay, but I thought maybe you could keep me on speaker or if you have Bluetooth or something that.
Kat
But then I'm. I'm outside of my car with a door open and people can hear you talking.
Amy
Yeah, true.
Kat
So I, But I did call you right back.
Amy
You did. So thank you for being honest, keeping your word. It didn't cost that much.
Kat
Guilty.
Amy
It didn't cost that much. Depending on who you ask.
Kat
Is that like when you're.
Amy
Money's relative?
Kat
Yeah, but is that like when you buy a gift for somebody and they're like, oh, you, this is way too much. And you're like, oh, I got it on sale.
Amy
There's a deal. It didn't cost that much. Yeah, I mean, you could do that. Or to your spouse, like, oh, it didn't cost that much. Have you seen those videos where they do a text overlay and it's like, let's say it's a pool or a trip to Disney. They'll, they'll show like a shot and then they do a text overlay. They're like this ninety thousand dollar pool that cost $120,000 has been the best $150,000 I've ever spent.
Kat
I was like, where are you going with this?
Amy
Or they'll be like, this $5,000 trip to Disney that cost $9,000 has been the best $15,000. Because you think something's going to be one amount, then you're like, oh, no, it's actually going to be this. When in reality we ended up spending this.
Kat
Yeah, that's funny.
Amy
So it is funny. Yeah, people are funny. It was on sale.
Kat
Why would you.
Amy
That could be another one. Or your husband. Or a gift. Like if someone's like, what? I can't believe you got this. And you're like, no, no, don't worry about it. It was on sale.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
Oh, this whole thing, I've had it for ages. Wait, isn't it you that does that or, like, it's awkward?
Kat
If I feel like I'm one of those people, I feel like this is very common when people give me a compliment. I'm like, oh, thanks. It was $5. I got it in bargain bin. Like, but did you really?
Amy
Or you're just like, look, you're downplaying it.
Kat
I think I'm down.
Amy
Well.
Kat
Oh, this?
Amy
I had it forever. You got it last week.
Kat
I think I do both. Because if you were to compliment me today on my outfit, which nobody's going
Amy
to do, I think you look cute. It match.
Kat
It doesn't match. I just.
Amy
What a black cardigan with.
Kat
I would have put a different tank top with this.
Amy
Okay.
Kat
So if you guys are judging my outfit out there, I'm well aware if you were to compliment my this thing, I would have been like, oh, my gosh, I've had it for like 15 years. Because I have. But I couldn't just say thank you. Sometimes it's hard for me. See, that's why we say the thank you pause.
Amy
Yeah, Just say thank you. You don't have to. There's no point in explaining it. Okay, I'm on the way. I've done that. I was gonna say I just left.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
And then I. Yeah, I'm still in my room, but with live.360 and stuff. Like now, people can be tracking you.
Kat
But I don't have you on live.
Amy
I know you don't, but wait, wait, wait. Like my kids, but my ex boyfriend.
Kat
But if I have live.
Caller/Listener
Greetings.
Amy
I still can see his whole family.
Kat
Did you want to announce?
Amy
I'm like, oh, he just left for lunch.
Kat
If I have live. Because I don't have this. If I have. If I have it. It's not like Snapchat kind of stuff where, like, I could just, like, see anybody who has it. You have to, like, accept me.
Amy
Yes.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
Yeah, yeah. You have to be on the following that person and allow the people to see.
Kat
I just do find my friends and I can look and see where. And I'll call Patrick. He'll be at work and I'll call. I won't call him. I'll text him. I'll be like, have you left from work yet? And like, I know he hasn't. That's really me saying, like, can you leave?
Amy
Yeah, it's time to go. Chop, chop. Which, again, I don't. This list is just the most common lies people tell. It doesn't mean they're all like. I don't even know why someone would say this one as a lie. You've lost weight. Why? Or oh, oh, maybe it's like, hey, I've lost five pounds. Can you tell? And you're like, yeah, yeah, but you can't. I guess maybe that's why you would lie. Another lie is thanks. It's just what I've always wanted. I don't know that I get that one. Does your brain?
Kat
That's like, if. If you gave me a gift, I lie and I'm like, oh, I love this. But really, like, I hate it.
Amy
That's what I've always wanted.
Kat
Have you ever gotten a gift that. Oh, yeah, we've talked about this before.
Amy
I already answered. Well, you know, there was the painting that my ex husband got me. But also, our first year of marriage, he got me this. A watch that was actually kind of nice. I would never. I was never gonna wear.
Kat
Did you ever wear it? Did you wear it a couple times?
Amy
No, I ended up telling him.
Kat
And did you return?
Amy
It was like our first Christmas together. I felt he needed to know.
Kat
Did you return?
Amy

Yeah.
Amy
And you really were. We really were because we got married at the six month mark, engaged at the three month mark. So we still needed to get to know each other. And I guess rightfully so. That was probably obnoxious of me. And he was getting to know the fact that I was going to do that, which I did not do that throughout our entire marriage. I learned to just like there were like, okay. Oh, thank you for this bracelet from Afghanistan. I like it. I just kept it in a jewelry box. Like I didn't say anything. And he goes, well all. Yeah, all the guys over there were buying their wives this bracelet.
Kat
So they probably had the same reaction.
Amy
He's like, so I figured I should get you one. And I'm like, thank you, thank you. I learned that's on me. That was my young brain.
Kat
I think that.
Amy
But the watch, I knew he had spent some money on it. And I'm like, we need to return this because I don't need this watch.
Kat
Did you wait some time after you opened it or you say it immediately?
Amy
It wasn't. No, it wasn't in. It was Christmas morning. I waited.
Kat
Okay, that's us.
Amy
But I was eventually honest because it was weighing on me that like he's expecting me to wear this watch. Probably because that's what you do with a watch. You wear it. The bracelet had a little more like a bracelet you can wear with the
Kat
right outfit or you could watch memento. Yeah, it gets kind of like a souvenir.
Amy
Souvenir from the war,
Caller/Listener
you know.
Amy
But the watch, I just was like,
Kat
what did you get instead?
Amy
A different watch.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
That was my style. And I, I don't know this. It feels like wrong. But I'm glad I didn't lie and say, oh, this is what I've always wanted.
Kat
He's also then he's going to learning
Amy
your get me another watch like that down the line.
Kat
Do you remember? You probably don't. The what Patrick got me for our wedding gift.
Amy
Remind me.
Kat
It was a necklace. Do you remember what it looked like?
Amy
No.
Kat
Okay. What? Okay. There's no. You look like you are.
Amy
Well, because I Want to remember?
Kat
Well, it's normal.
Amy
I could tell you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I remember a lie.
Kat
So he got me this diamond necklace that was like a. A square, and then it had two. They are squares, but you can't really tell two squares on the corners of the top where it looks like Mickey Mouse. To the point where I opened this necklace, and my niece, who was 8 at the time, said, why did he get you a Mickey Mouse?
Amy
Oh.
Kat
Which at first when I opened, I was like, oh, it's pretty. I mean, it is a nice necklace. But I was like, maybe nobody else will think that. And then Addie said it immediately. So I was like, okay, this is. People are going to think that I'm a Disney adult, which, like, no shade to Disney adults, but that's not me. And so that's what I got. And eventually, I'm a bad liar. And he's got me these two necklaces that I wear every day. He picked them out on his own. Like, I love them. And he was like, you. You never wear the necklace I got. You don't like it, do you? And I was like, well, it does look like Mickey Mouse. So I can wear it under something, you know, just like, to have it on. But you don't want it to be, like, the highlight of your outfit under
Amy
a shirt that doesn't have, like, a. Like, you're like, I can sleep in it. Thank you for the necklace. I can't wait to sleep in it, but. Or any different wear around the house.
Kat
I will wear it, but I didn't want to return it or exchange it because it's a memory for me. It's like, this is what you got for my wedding.
Amy
And your daughter will be able to wear it when you take her to Tiffany.
Kat
Yeah, it's hers, but I think that was what. Yeah. I was also honest with him, and he did. He was like, I knew I should have gotten you the solitaire one, but I just thought maybe, like, you like things sometimes that are a little different. So I wanted to get something, like, a little different. And I was like, when it's jewelry,
Caller/Listener
simple.
Kat
But I kept it for the memory,
Amy
so, you know, same thing.
Kat
Well, no Christmas present is different than your wedding gift.
Amy
Yes, Yes.
Kat
I would never return a wedding gift. But, Patrick, if you're listening, I know you're not. I love the gift. It's a great story, and our daughter's gonna love it when we take her to Disney. Thank you for reframing that.
Amy
You're welcome. Another light. You haven't changed A bit.
Kat
Is that, like, how somebody looks? I guess, yeah.
Amy
If you haven't seen them from. Since high school.
Kat
You look just the same. I was like, I know you're lying.
Amy
I didn't touch it. Wasn't me.
Kat
Wasn't me.
Amy
I have no idea where it is. I'll try to make it. Even though you have no intention of going. I have a headache. And then the final and 20th most common lie told. I would never lie to you.
Kat
Oh, nobody can really say that.
Amy
I would never lie to you. What do you mean?
Kat
I think everybody has lied.
Amy
Oh, like, you can't say that. Oh, but people do say.
Kat
Yeah, people do say.
Amy
People say, I would never lie to you. Especially when they're trying to get out of a lie.
Ad Voice/Announcer
Right.
Amy
They'd be like, that's like manipulation. Master gaslighting.
Caller/Listener
I would.
Amy
I would never lie.
Kat
I can't believe you would think I would ever lie to you.
Amy
Are you lying to me?
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
You know, this probably means you're lying to me because I read about projection.
Kat
That's like, wait, am I lying?
Amy
How they would spin it on you.
Kat
Yeah, maybe.
Amy
You're the one that had two beers
Kat
and that's why you're acting like this.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Amy
So there you go. Shannon looked up the actual reason you should not be on your phone while pumping gas. There is a legit reason, and it is static electricity, which you know are scared of. If you listen to last week's feeling things. You know, Kat thought she got electrocuted when we had a little static electricity. She thought she was. She. I can't even believe I'm gonna say this. She thought it killed her baby. She thought it stopped her baby's heartbeat because my hand touched her hand and it shocked her.
Kat
It was. It wasn't even. We didn't even touch. It was through a.
Amy
Through the phone. Well, the phone and static electricity and getting gas. Okay. Re. Entering your vehicle while pumping gas can build up static charge on your clothes. Touching the gas pump nozzle after building this charge can cause a real spark and then sparks around gas is not good. No. But.
Kat
Okay, now I really will never be doing it.
Amy
Cat's not even gonna take her phone to the gas station.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Kat
If I'm going to get gas, the phone's at the house.
Amy
You're leaving it.
Kat
So, wait, you build up static electricity when you're using your phone? That's what it says.
Amy
It says when you re. Enter your vehicle. I guess between sitting down and the phone, I mean, I don't know.
Kat
Okay. Okay. Well, I'M glad I didn't do that because I might not be able to. I might not have been able to record after.
Amy
Mm.
Kat
I have another incident.
Amy
We got a voicemail from Brittany about toxic traits. So another. Another positive thing to close with.
Ad Voice/Announcer
Yeah.
Amy
Okay, here it is.
Caller/Listener
Hey, ladies. My name's Brittany. I was just calling. I just listened to your most recent podcast about toxic traits from people that you've set boundaries with, and I thought I would call in to let you know of something that happened this week with me. My mom and I have not been talking for probably two and a half, three years after my dad died. It got really rough. I'm 40, just to give you a time thing on that. But he passed away and after that happened, it just didn't go well. So I had to set some boundaries with her and found out this week via Facebook through my cousin that my uncle passed away three weeks ago and then my granddad passed away three days ago. And I'm not on social media very much, so I didn't see it until this weekend. And my mom didn't bother to tell me for three weeks that a relative of mine had died and then that my granddad died right after that. Both her. Her side of the family. So I spoke with my therapist. She basically said everything you guys are talking about on the podcast, that once you have a boundary, they're going to try and test it and push it to see if it's still there, especially with a huge life change. So this was a prime example of her trying to get back in under my skin. She sent an email to me yesterday explaining why she didn't send anything because she didn't want to tell me about the deaths until the funeral arrangements were made, which is bizarre and doesn't make any logical sense for a logical, thinking human being. So I wanted to reply back very angrily. Obviously, I was upset that after talking through it with my therapist, I understood that she wouldn't even understand what I was saying. So we just sent a very short thank you and I'll be praying for you. FEMALE and that was it. To let her know that she can't control me anymore. I'm not going to let it bother me. I'll grieve with this through my own way. That doesn't include her right now. So anybody else going through that, just. You can stay strong with your boundaries. Just talk with a therapist. You feel like you're going to go off on somebody that you know probably doesn't even deserve your time to cause
Kat
you to be upset.
Caller/Listener
And that helped me so much. And then listening to y' all's podcast also was just very helpful knowing that we agreed with the same things. So anyway, short and sweet. Hopefully didn't take too much of your time, but love you guys. Have a great day. Bye.
Amy
Thanks for that, Brittany. I know that that will be helpful for somebody else listening as well. And I'm glad that our talk on the recent episode about that stuff helped you hold your ground and you know that type of simple response.
Caller/Listener
Watch.
Amy
I was drive someone else crazy.
Kat
Yeah. I was wondering if she was saying I'm praying for you as like a passive aggressive dig or like I'm praying for you because your dad died.
Amy
I think hearing her voice and her intent and how thoughtful she's being about it, I think she really meant it. I don't think it was passive aggressive because.
Kat
And because she came up with that with her therapist.
Amy
Right. Someone might receive it as that and if they're thinking that that's your heart. But I feel like based on what she was saying, like genuinely she's concerned about the well being of her family going through this difficult time and like that includes her mom. So I'll be, I'll be praying for you. But that is, that's not the type of engagement that her mom was and
Kat
her mom knew something for knew what she was doing by not. So yeah, glad that you have a therapist you can talk about this stuff with.
Amy
And good for you for holding your boundary because it's definitely not easy to do. And now you are not in a back and forth. You sent a reply. You've got peace of mind with that and you can move on with your life. Otherwise, if you had sent the response you had in the moment, which she even admitted to having, you would no doubt end up in a back and forth exchange and then resetting the boundary would be 10 times as hard because you got to do it again.
Kat
I think her saying the. I think she was saying her therapist said like, your mom's not even gonna understand what you're saying. So it's not worth it. It's so as long as I can write this out and say this for me, because it's what I want to say, but I wouldn't get what I needed out of this. So there's really no point.
Amy
An exercise I did once to get a bunch of stuff out that I wanted to say to someone, but I wasn't going to send because I was trying to hold a boundary. And so I was sending things that were very just my side of the street to the point. But I had a lot where I didn't want to stay on my side of the street, and I wanted to say this or that, and I wrote it all down. And then I had a fire going and I burned it in my fireplace.
Caller/Listener
Feel good?
Amy
And it was. It represented me getting it out there and then just watching it burn up was helpful. It's a. So it's a little activity if you've got a fireplace. If you don't, then don't just, like, build a fire.
Kat
You could. I've burned stuff in my sink before.
Amy
Oh, okay. All right. Really?
Kat
Like old pictures. Okay.
Amy
Okay.
Kat
And stuff like that. Like, as long as you have a. Like a sink that can. Mine was like a stainless steel sink. It wouldn't, like, ruin it.
Amy
Right.
Kat
But I would just light it on fire and then, like, let it burn in the sink.
Amy
Okay.
Kat
But you could also do that in your backyard in a safe place.
Amy
You know what I keep under my kitchen sink? I have these fire blankets that I ordered on Amazon. So instead of a fire extinguisher, they're these. They're folded up real tight, and I keep them under my kitchen sink. So if there was a fire on my stove, you, like, open them and then throw the blanket on top of it and it puts the fire out.
Kat
I have those two, but I don't know where they are, so they're not helpful.
Amy
Well, before that baby comes, you gotta get it. What's crazy is you don't have someone showing up at your house to make sure that you're an equipped parent that's got all the systems in play. Because being an adoptive mom, do you have a home study and you have a stranger coming into your house and evaluating if your home is equipped enough to have a baby?
Kat
I wish I did, because they could be like, you need to do this and this and this, and I would feel better about that.
Amy
Yeah, you probably really would like that. Oh, my gosh.
Kat
Thank you for coming.
Amy
I feel so much better. Okay. Well, Brittany, thank you so much for the voicemail. We know for a fact someone else needed to hear your story and it will be an encouragement to them. So thank you for sharing that and to everyone else, we hope you have
Kat
the day you need to have.
Amy
Bye.
Kat
Bye.
