This is Feeling Things with Amy and Kat. Happy Thursday. Welcome to Couch Talks. Our listener interaction episodes of how do we say this? Let's just roll this out in real time. We were doing listener Q and A and we do have a listener question, but sometimes we just have input from other listeners. So that's why I wanted to call it listener interaction.
Kat
It didn't sound as good as this.
Amy
It just doesn't. So try this again.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
Happy Thursday. Welcome to Couch Talks. The listener Q and A to our Feeling Things podcast. I'm Amy.
Kat
And I'm Kat.
Amy
And our question today comes from Amber. And I will say we have a good voicemail after we get into this, that it's not all about farting, but she does mention it. And she has some other things, too. She is a widow, and she has multifaceted gratitude for the podcast and what it's given her. So I'm thankful. I'll just say if we had a tally for how many emails and voicemails we got about this topic of passing gas, whatever you want to call it, it wins of the entire podcast, even before we evolved into Feeling Things. Four things, fifth thing, Feeling Things, Couch talks.
Kat
This is the topic that you guys want to share.
Amy
Y' all love talking about. And we are drawing a line in the sand now. It's the sand, so that can go away. If you have something so epic you need to share with us around this, please do so and maybe we'll bring it back up again. Love that it's something that's resonated with y' all and you're having a good time with it, but we need to get back to regular scheduled programming.
Kat
Well, and I think it's. It's more. So we don't want every week for us to be like, okay, it's time to talk about this again. Like, it's not. We don't. We appreciate the. In the emails and the voicemails are funny, and we appreciate them. And also, we love. Anytime somebody reaches out to us, we just feel bad that you're sending us this content, and eventually we're gonna have to not be able to use it anymore.
Amy
Right.
Kat
It's.
Amy
It's gonna get old, and some people are uncomfortable with it, quite honestly. I am a little bit, but I don't.
Groons Advertiser
I don't.
Amy
I'm evolving. Like, I don't mind. I feel like I've talked more about that in the last few weeks than I've ever talked about in my entire life, and it's great to talk about it. So I can't wait to play the voicemail because it's super cute. So we'll get to the email first from Amber. Hey, I love that y' all are going on a trip together, which some backstory here. This is me talking off the email, but Kat and I leave in a couple of weeks for a little vacation together. It's not the first trip we've taken together, and we were talking about it on the show or a few episodes back, how we're going to Canyon Ranch and really excited about it. It's official. Everything's booked, and I have a lot of anticipation for it. So that'd be my feeling of the day. Towards that is anticipation. It's going to be epic.
Kat
Looking forward to something.
Amy
I know I cannot wait. So that's what she's referencing here. Your trip got me thinking about how I have some travel this summer, and my packing stresses my husband out. He likes to pack way in advance, and I pack at the last minute. It always causes some sort of conflict before a trip when we should be focused on a vacation and having a good time. How has it been in your relationships when it comes to packing personalities? Is there hope for a middle ground with me and my husband? I know this seems like a silly topic, but I want to create less tension, and I figured y' all might have some tips for me. Have the day you need to have. Amber, 32 and newly married, Austin, Texas.
Kat
Oh, man.
Amy
It's interesting. I feel like, am I Amber and you or her husband? Which I know when she says relationship, she's talking about our partners.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Because I was married for 17 years and we were very different. And I have no idea, honestly, what you and Patrick are like together. I know how you and I are together, and that's why I'm Amber and you're her husband.
Kat
Wait, what were you and your ex husband like?
Amy
Because I imagine he was very organized, very on time, wanted to get to the airport way early, packed way in advance.
Kat
Did y' all fight over that?
Amy
Yeah, we would have conflict.
Kat
Okay.
Amy
I was running behind. I was always packing last minutes the night before, the morning of staying up late packing. So therefore, I was tired and it was hard to get up and he would get annoyed.
Kat
Yeah.
Redfin Advertiser
And then.
Amy
Yeah. It is no fun to have tension going into something that's supposed to be fun. And I didn't want to be that way. It just was the way that I was. And I say was because I've tried to evolve a bit and mature. I have. I got better. I feel like the last trip I went on, I was packing way in advance. I think I even talked about it.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Yeah. I talked about it on the podcast. That I was proud of myself for using tools and put all your outfits together to try to just force myself to do it, even though I feel like I pack better. And maybe that's the story I'm telling myself, but I pack better under pressure and I'm able to get it all done. Doing it before is taxing. However, I showed myself that I can do it and I know that it's possible. And I must say, it does feel a little nice to be just that much less stressed walking out the door.
Kat
I have been at your house. You are leaving for a trip in like that morning, and you have not been packed like an hour before you're supposed to leave. It blows it. Honestly, it doesn't bother me because, like, your passion is not going to affect me. Blows my mind. Like that. You can that one. You seem okay about it. I'm like, what is it like to live like that? Like, I almost want a little bit of your energy because I'm going on a trip in a. What is today? One, two, three. I'm leaving in four days. I packed two days ago.
Amy
That's so interesting because in a lot of ways we are so the same, especially with our adhd. We're very similar. You with travel and packing. Like you just said, when you've been here and I'm packing for something that you're not going on, it doesn't impact you. Your mind is blown. However, we have traveled together where it has impacted you and you have been very, very anxious.
Kat
Yeah. I was gonna say, I think it blows my mind. I'm like, a little jealous because I. Mine is fueled by anxiety. It's not fueled. I don't like packing. It's not like, oh, I'm so excited. I'm gonna pack right now. It's like, I have to get this done. So I make sure I have everything so I'm not missing anything last minute that. So everything can be washed. Like, it's more. I need to be ready to go. So there was this one time that Amy and I went to New York and we flew there separately. No big deal. We were flying back together and I. This was how many years ago? Three years ago.
Amy
Three or four. Yeah.
Kat
So never really experienced this kind of thing. I didn't know what kind of flyer you were. I am a 2 hour early get to the airport person. We were also in. We were in New York, so you never know how long it's going to take to get to the airport, you know?
Amy
You know, traffic is the thing.
Kat
Yeah. I swear our flight was like taking off in an hour and a half and we still hadn't left.
Amy
And I was totally fine with that.
Kat
I was trying to. This was a lesson for me. I was trying so hard to be so cool and not be annoying or naggy. I probably asked a couple times, like, is it time to go yet? And you're like, oh, we'll go in a second.
Amy
Gotta get a bagel.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
And I remember specifically sitting in the car on. In the Uber on the way to the airport, like, continuously, like, looking at my phone, looking at the time, like, calculating things, because I was so stressed that we were not going to have enough time, and it was not worth it for me. I wish that I would have. This is a lesson for me. Not. It's not anything about you. It's. I should have said, hey, it's important to me to leave. At least this time I can meet you in the middle. We don't have to be there two hours early. I do understand that that's excessive, especially if we're not, like, checking the bag. And it would really be really helpful for me to leave at this time just to have a little bit of a cushion. But I didn't do that because I wanted to be cool. So then what happened is I was getting really anxious, and then in my head, I probably was annoyed with you.
Amy
Yeah.
Kat
I don't remember if I was, but I imagine that I would be.
Amy
If you were annoyed, you were hiding it. Because I didn't sense annoyance, but I did sense your. Your anxiety, and I felt bad. And I do like the idea of meeting in the middle. So back to Amber's email. We both could have stretched a little bit on that trip. Like, but you have to vocalize. So if you had vocalized that I could have met you a little bit, and you could have met me a little bit, and we stretch. And so with Amber and her husband, there needs to be some stressing. Stretching. Excuse me. So that there's not the tension. She needs to try to put in some effort to pack a little bit early. And then he needs to have a little understanding that she may not be packed as early as him. But as long as they set a time to walk out the door for their trip, if they both can honor and respect that, then they both should feel good about it. And then there's no tension on the front end of the trip.
Kat
Yeah. And what I'm thinking about, too, is because the way you pack, like, again, it does. It, in a way stresses me out, but not really, because if. If you. You don't pack correctly or you miss things or whatever, like, it. That's not affecting me, that's affecting you. So I wonder, too, like, for your husband, what is it about your packing that. Is he worried that because you're doing it last minute that you're going to forget something and that's going to impact him because the consequence is going to be on you. And I always like to remind people, like, let other people have their consequences. Like if you aren't ready in time and you have to throw stuff in a suitcase and go out the door and you don't know what you have, that's a you problem, not a me problem. And I don't have to be responsible for that. So if you guys even have a conversation around that of like, I. If. If my packing ends up being a problem for me, I'm not expecting you to fix my problem.
Amy
I'll be responsible for as long as her packing, which we don't have the details here, aren't impacting what time they get out the door.
Kat
Well, that would. Yeah, I think that would have to be agreed. That they leave at a certain time
Amy
because say he's like you and he wants to be at the airport two hours early, which I think ridiculous. They may need to, you know, me in the middle. Hey, how about if I guarantee as long as I'm packed, even if I'm packing right up until the last minute, but I guarantee you that we'll be out the door to get to the airport with an hour and a half to spare.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Is that. That's stretching, right, for both of them.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Because he's going to have to be like, okay, fine, I give you the 30 minutes or you go to the airport separately, which is really annoying.
Kat
It could be expensive depending on how.
Amy
Cuz my Uber to the airport is crazy these days where I'm like, what?
Kat
No, we've started driving to the airport now that we live farther away.
Amy
Sometimes it's hard to find parking though.
Kat
Yes, you have to check. You got to check the parking lots if they're full before you get there. They also increase the price of the cheaper parking lot. But the crazy thing is sometimes it's cheaper to park for a week than take an Uber. Uber back and forth. Nuts.
Amy
Nuts. Yeah. So, Amber, we hope that you can find a way to stretch. I don't know that Kat and I have a lot to offer. I can just speak from experience that I truly have implemented a little bit of a different packing strategy. And I tr. I'm trying to get ahead. And I gotta say, it does feel better. It does. There's no way around it. Yes. Takes a little more effort on my part. And I don't know what it is about you that puts it off for me. I do put it in to my ADHD category because under pressure, I perform. So under the pressure of packing I'm able to finally make decisions. When I don't have that pressure, it's hard for me to figure out, well, what outfits do I want to wear Now? Kat also has adhd, but what Kat has, I don't have a lot of his anxiety, so that helps her. You may not have that. So if you're like me, then just do the mirroring. Maybe when your husband's packing, be like, oh, I should go join in on that and do it with him because that's something that helps me. The bottle, double, the body doubling, the mirroring, whatever you want to call it. If someone else is doing a task that you need to do, I am able to actually do it when I have a buddy. So look at your husband as your buddy and go ahead and knock it out. Get it done with him. And he might be like, this is so hot. I am so attracted to you right now. And then you'll be like, sweet. Now that I'm done with packing, can we just get to the airport a little bit later and show the stretch? And then there might be a totally different area in Yalls relationship where he gets to stretch a little more because he saw the effort that you put into that. So good luck and have fun on your trip. Yeah. And hopefully if you do enter with a little bit of conflict at the beginning, it resolves quickly because it's definitely not worth wasting, you know, a good trip on drama like that.

I really had to make a decision because I caught myself getting that frog in my throat and starting to get teary as I'm narrating some of these sections. Speaking of packing, something that's been popping up in my algorithm a lot lately is the Sudoku method. Have you heard of the.
Kat
No. Is this related to like the little numbers game?
Amy
It's like the game because it's squares. So how you do it? It's A three by three grid with nine core items. I saw a mom doing this with her children when she was packing them for a vacation. And then I've seen adults do it too. Especially if they're taking, you know, an overseas type trip, but they don't want to lug this huge thing of luggage. It's a way for them to maximize outfits but still be able to fit their trip into a carry on even though they're gone for a while. So you select three tops, three bottoms, and three layers that are versatile and color coordinated. You arrange items into a grid. Ensure each row and column contains one top, one bottom, and one layer. Every row, column, and diagonal line forms a complete stylish outfit. From the Sudoku method, you can create more than 27 combinations by mixing pieces across diagonal lines. Isn't that crazy?
Kat
That is blowing my mind.
Amy
Yeah. I don't know who originally thought of this. I've just seen it on my for me stuff and I don't know, maybe because, listen, my for me page or for you page, fyp, whatever it's called. It is a lot of foods, weird eating things. People buying food on Facebook Marketplace, and I watch them eat the whole thing in their car. I'm very intrigued by that. Especially when they eat crab in their car and they're Facebook Marketplace and they snap the crab open and crap crabs flying everywhere. I'm like, I don't even know rage bait, though, what your car smells like.
Kat
I think that's a little rage baity right there maybe.
Amy
And also lately it's been packing methods. So maybe because I've been talking about how I have a trip coming up, but you can Google this in case you didn't memorize everything I just said. But three tops, three bottoms, three layers, and then you organize the columns.
Kat
So the trick with this, though is everything has to match.
Amy
It has to color coordinate.
Kat
Okay, so this is my pro. This is genius. And I think I'd. I'd like to use this. This sounds nice, but like, you know, there's sometimes just like an outfit you want to bring on vacation and it doesn't go with anything else, you know?
Amy
Well, sure, you can toss that in for good measure. Because this is just a tip. If you need a lot of outfits and you don't want to pack a bunch of unnecessary things.
Kat
Like when you were saying overseas, I think this would have been really helpful when we went to. I packed in a carry on to Italy for 10 days. But what I used is shove everything in one of those bags that the cubes that zips and like seals. Vacuum seals.
Amy
How does it.
Kat
You.
Amy
You. You have one of those.
Kat
It didn't. It didn't. But it. It smushed like you zip it and then you zip it again and so it's smush. I fit a Barefoot Dreams blanket into one of these things so I could have my own blanket on the airplane.
Amy
That's crazy.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Because those things are fluffy. Are fluffy. Have you seen the jacket? This might have been an ad online or someone just happened to have one. But it's a jacket that has compartments all throughout it that sort of suck everything up. And you can. Whatever you're packing, like, it just makes everything really tight. And when you walk on the plane, your jacket is your carry on so.
Kat
Well, yes.
Amy
Like, you can fit like, there's certain pockets for your toiletries. There's certain pockets for all your clothes. And the jacket is full of these compartments that just suck everything up. And then you throw the jacket on and you board the flight and it's like ready to go. And so then you can take on even another carry on full of things because you've got all this other stuff in your. In your jacket. So you can take a jacket on.
Kat
I would love to see the jacket fully packed on somebody. Like, do they look like they have a carry on in their jacket or does it look like just like a.
Amy
It looked pretty. Pretty. Wow.
Kat
So this would also only work in the colder seasons, right? Was it. I imagine it'd be a thicker check.
Amy
I mean, I guess. But you can. I mean, you just have to put it on when you're boarding the plane and then when you get off, take it off and just carry it.
Kat
Who invented that? But what a smart invention.
Amy
But then also, how heavy is the jacket?
Kat
It's like a weighted vest. So more than a weighted vest, because my. My suitcase is probably going to be a good £50. So that. That would be a heavy jacket for.
Darl
For your.
Amy
Your suitcase for what?
Kat
For my trip I'm about to go on. Oh, not the trip we're gonna go on, I think.
Kal Penn
Yeah.
Amy
Because I'm like, wait, I think our trip, honestly, I was thinking about it. We can get away with packing a swimsuit and some athleisure.
Kat
Two swimsuits.
Amy
Okay. Okay. Some swimsuits, some athleisure, I guess wear is what you call it, right? Just casual. And then maybe a dress in case one night we decide, should we wear a dress to dinner? But I doubt.
Groons Advertiser
Who knows?
Kat
What do people wear there? I was thinking we'd be in Cozy clothes.
Amy
I think cozy clothes the whole time. But what if. Just. What if we want to look cute for a vibe?
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
But I doubt it. We'll probably be makeup free, just living our best spa life.
Kat
Yes. It was like, oh, that's the best. When you don't. That's why I love going to, like, the beach or the lake or something for vacation, because I will just be in a bathing suit and T shirt and shorts with. Don't do my hair. Don't do my makeup. Like, you don't need anything. Those are the best trips.
Amy
Maybe we just shouldn't even pack makeup. Why would we pack it?
Kat
Why would we pack it? We need sunscreen. Tinted sunscreen.
Bowen Yang
Huh?
Amy
What?
Ray Porter
Wow.
Amy
Okay, well, I'm gonna be packed and ready to go before, like, I'm trying to. We barely need to take anything.
Darl
Yeah.
Amy
So, look, this is a trip. We'll all be packed and ready to go.
Kat
We need to cover up a baby.
Amy
I'm gonna pack tonight even though we're. Okay. Okay. Maybe that's my goal to myself, to pack a week in advance. And, Amber, well, you don't need to do a week.
Kat
That's a little bit of.
Amy
Well, okay. But. But I can set my own goals.
Kat
I'm sorry. I was just saying I don't. You don't have to go from one extreme to the other. You can.
Amy
Well, I'll get. Okay. Four to five days before the trip. I want to be packed. And honestly, I might need to, because I'm gonna be working right up until we leave.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
So if I want to have a good work week, we roll out early the next morning. And if I don't get ahead of it, then I am going to be packing late at night right before the trip, because I have so much work to get done before we head off on vacation. And, Amber, what I was going to say for you is, you know, the buddy system helps. Like, I'll be your buddy. A long time ago on the Bobby Bones Show, I was a snoozer, and I was trying to quit snoozing. And a listener called in and said, I want to quit snoozing. Snoozing, too. I'll be Amy's accountability partner. And so Bobby assigned us as buddies, like me and a listener. And she would call in, give reports. Like, I felt like now I had this responsibility because I'm an accountability partner to this listener, and it helped. And I don't snooze anymore. And I was a proud snoozer. I loved snoozing.
Kat
You set your alarm early so you could snooze?
Amy
Yes, sure did. And it felt great. And I thought, well, this is just who I am and there's no changing it. So I guess that example alone shows us, Amber, that we can change. We can be different packers. We can do things differently. And if I'm letting know that I'm going to try, then you can try. And we'll be accountability partners.
Kat
Amen.
Amy
Amen.
Kat
We'll see how this goes. I can't wait to see how your packing goes for this trip.
Amy
We can move on to our voicemail.

we can move on to our voicemail about you know what the topic we shall shall not say. But it's more towards the end of the voicemail we'll just go ahead and and play it. Here it is.
Darl
My name is Darl and I'm from California and I am almost 57 this month and I just wanted to tell you guys that you guys just crack me up. There's never an episode that I listen to that I'm not laughing at something. And I just love the banter that you guys have back and forth and like how you just talk about random things all the time and just, it's just so fun. It's like listening to two friends and you do feel like you're part of the friendship here and so it's just so much fun, and it's been really healing for me. My husband passed away 17 months ago, and it's been really fun for me to have something to listen to and to laugh and. And I've loved the episodes where you've talked about loss, and I've just really connected with that. About the farting thing, I know you don't probably want more farting stuff, but it's just so funny. I just was laughing as well, and actually Amy said something about, I don't know, fart away or have a fart away. And I. I said, have the fart you need to have. I just thought I was laughing at myself. My own little joke. Anyway, I am. I just love you guys, and I really appreciate your show, and it's so fun, and I'll listen to you again soon. Bye. Bye.
Amy
All right, so that's kind of cute. Have the fart you need to have.
Kat
What's it feel like saying that? If you like it. Yeah.
Amy
It's like, okay, that's kind of cute. And I love that it was. I love that she was saying it. It was making her laugh.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
I think that that's really precious.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
And she took the time to call us about it, and I'm very sorry about your loss. 17 months is still so fresh, and I know it's different, but dating a widower, I know that it's just not easy at all. And we've had listeners even write in that have lost their loved ones, and in that way, they're their significant other, their partner, and so you're not alone. There are others listening that are in your shoes. And I'm just thankful that you have found probably several things that bring you joy, and to know that our podcast is one of them is really special. So thank you for sharing that and that, yeah, you are able to laugh because someone might be in your situation and it's a little more fresh, and they may think, am I ever gonna laugh again? Or is it okay to laugh? Or I feel guilty laughing. I know that was something with my ex boyfriend of just having to move on with his life and even start dating again. I don't. I know you're 57. That might be something you consider down the line. 57 is still young.
Kat
You have a lot of life.
Amy
You have a lot of life.
Kat
And I just think, too look at the, like, silly way. Like when we did that segment on the. You know what, we didn't really know where that was going to go, but if that little thing can Bring, I mean, joy. Even you laughing to yourself saying, have the fart you need to have. That is good for us to hear when sometimes we're like, is this dumb? Is anybody gonna. What are people gonna think?
Amy
It's like helping anybody?
Kat
Yes. This seems so. Helping somebody.
Amy
Yes. It's something like you needed, and you got to laugh from it.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
And I know you didn't ask us any advice about dating or moving on, and I know it may be way too soon for that. I'm just saying it's showing that, you know, life can go on, and you can also still be sad for what has happened and be excited about what's to come and have moments of joy and laughter. And I hope that you're never feeling guilty about that.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
So there you go. We'd love to hear from y'.
Darl
All.
Amy
Hey, there. At FeelingThingsPodcast.com is where you can send emails for couch talks if you've got questions. They could be about anything. Except for now, maybe not. You know what? Unless it's epic. If you have an epic you know what story, then send it in.
Kat
I don't know what an epic, you know what story would be that could be scary.
Amy
Who knows? I feel like have the fart you need to have is pretty epic. I love that she thought that. So you know, you know the rules. We drew the line in the sand, but we can. We can get rid. We can smudge it out. We're flexible, we're bendy. We can stretch.
Kat
Yeah, we're stretchy.
Amy
We're breezy. Yeah. If you want to call us, obviously. We love hearing from you both ways. It's fun to hear people's voices.
Kat
I love the voicemails.
Amy
So do I. But I get that some people are like, no way. I would never call a voicemail. That feels weird. I would challenge you if that feels weird, but you still feel like you have a question or something to contribute. Challenge yourself.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Stretch.
Kat
Yeah.
Amy
Opportunity to experiment because we're all in this together.
Kat
Were you trying to sing that?

Episode Theme: Navigating Differences in Relationships, Creative Packing Tips, and The Comfort of Laughter Through Grief
This episode of the “Feeling Things” segment from The Bobby Bones Show is a Couch Talks special—meaning it’s built around listener questions, stories, and interactive feedback. Amy and Kat dive deep into the dynamics of “opposites attract” in relationships—specifically, how different personalities can mix (or clash) around something as everyday as packing for trips. The duo offers practical advice, shares personal travel stories, details the viral “Sudoku Packing Method,” and spotlights the healing power of humor, even in hard times.

"It is no fun to have tension going into something that's supposed to be fun. And I didn't want to be that way. It just was the way that I was... I have tried to evolve and mature. I got better."
"I am a 2 hour early get to the airport person... We were in New York, so you never know how long it’s going to take to get to the airport, you know?... I was getting really anxious, and then in my head, I probably was annoyed with you."
"If someone else is doing a task that you need to do, I am able to actually do it when I have a buddy... Look at your husband as your buddy and go ahead and knock it out. Get it done with him."
Timestamp: 19:29–24:07
“From the Sudoku method, you can create more than 27 combinations by mixing pieces across diagonal lines. Isn’t that crazy?”
“That is blowing my mind.”
Timestamp: 25:11–27:12
“And it [accountability buddy] helped. And I don't snooze anymore... So I guess that example alone shows us, Amber, that we can change. We can be different packers. We can do things differently.”
Timestamp: 31:26–35:11
"It's been really fun for me to have something to listen to and to laugh... It's been really healing for me."
“Life can go on, and you can also still be sad for what has happened and be excited about what's to come and have moments of joy and laughter. And I hope that you're never feeling guilty about that.”
"Let other people have their consequences... If you aren't ready in time and you have to throw stuff in a suitcase and go out the door and you don't know what you have, that's a you problem, not a me problem."
"So you select three tops, three bottoms, and three layers that are versatile and color coordinated... Every row, column, and diagonal line forms a complete stylish outfit."
“That is blowing my mind.”
“I love that she was saying it [“have the fart you need to have”]. It was making her laugh. I think that's really precious.”
"We'd love to hear from y'all... We're all in this together."
