And you. You wrote it?

Yeah, I wrote it with. With Ashley Gourley and Ross. Our buddy Ross Copperman and Chase McGill. It wasn't really meant to be. You know, we were writing some songs that day and hoping to get to another song. We just finished one, and we were taking a little break, and, you know, this kind of started. Someone started playing the guitar and started playing this riff, and then this song kind of started happening, and it's kind of like, are we really going to write this. This song? And then. All right, let's write it. So we wrote in about 30 minutes and moved on to the next real song, and then this one just kind of stuck around. Wasn't really my pick for the first single initially, because I usually lean towards more serious songs. Even going back to what was I Thinking? I didn't want that to be a single, but I just. It just was meant to be. And the fact that it's coming out on Valentine's Day is pretty. Pretty funny.

The anti Day anti Valentine's Day party had dressed black to get in, and it's just such a Hallmark holiday. I don't know. What do you think, Amy? You love this one or.

I'm. I'm. I'm not the most romantic person.

So I'm just sort of neutral about it.

I feel like for guys out there, it's a tough holiday because. Let's say you're dating somebody. I'm sure lunch can. Can help me on this. When you're dating somebody, the relationship's going pretty good. It's all right. And all of a sudden, this checkpoint shows up. You got to pass through, like, okay, it's Valentine's Day. Do I get her the car? Do we go for jewelry? Are we gonna. You know, if I say the wrong thing, it. It derails us. If I put too much into it now, we're like, way ahead of where I wanted this thing to be. It's kind of. It's just. It's not. It really can trip you up. So. I've never been a huge fan of it. At my house, every day is Valentine's Day.

[Bobby Bones]

Now we're talking. He's back, boys. He's not method acting anymore. He's back.

My house with Cas is home listening. She knows every day is Valentine's Day.

But can you grace us with a love story of meeting your wife?

[Dierks Bentley]

Yeah. So I knew my wife in eighth grade. I always kind of had a crush on her. But then we went separate ways. Long story short, I was playing a show opening for George Strait in Las Vegas in February 5th of 2005, and she was going to come out just as a friend. I was like, yeah, we tried to date. It just wasn't meant to be and. But I always liked her. She's one of my favorite people to be around. I was like, yeah, come to the show. So I'm on the back of my bus, the same bus that I still have. I'm watching the movie Old School for the millionth time. This is pre iPhone. This is 2005. You had to watch DVDs and stuff to entertain ourselves. And she walked on the bus, and I knew the second she walked on that we were gonna get married. I just had. It was like, just.

[Bobby Bones]

What do you mean you knew?

[Dierks Bentley]

It's kinda like the first time I heard Hank Jr. I just, like, knew I was gonna be a country singer. I just. When she walked on the bus, I just. I was like, we're getting married. I just added something.

[Bobby Bones]

When did she know that?

[Amy]

Right.

[Dierks Bentley]

Well, she found out later that year when I was back in Las Vegas playing the last show of the year. And I wake up next Morning. And my buddy Lee came in, who does a lot of styling. He style stuff for clothing for me. Still works with Luke Bryan.

[Bobby Bones]

He.

[Dierks Bentley]

He walked in to our hotel room with a bunch of dresses, and she's like, we just got engaged the night before, and she's like, what's going on? I said, we're flying down to Mexico. We're eloping today, and we're going on to Mexico to get. To get married. And so we went down to Mexico, and it was me and her. The judge, I guess you call the person and her interpreter, because everything was said in Spanish. And we got married, just the. The four of us, me and Cass, and those two people. And. Yeah, that's good. Yeah. So I peaked. That was my. I peaked 20 years ago. And ever since then, I have not been overly romantic. So I need to find a. Maybe this would be the year that I do something really great again.

[Bobby Bones]

But I can agree with you, though, when it feels forced, it doesn't feel authentic.

[Dierks Bentley]

Yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

And this feels forced. But my helpful voice to our listener, our guy listeners, has been, um, don't feel pressured, but understand if your love language is gift giving, like, mine is like, I look forward to this because it's. It's really. I'm bad at saying stuff. Gift giving is my love language.

[Dierks Bentley]

Yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

However, if your girl works in an office where everybody's getting stuff and she doesn't. Oof. Like, you have at least think of that. Like, think of her in that situation. Not even that. I gotta be so romantic. But at least allow her to not feel ostracized because she's at the office and she's different than everybody else. Cause she's not getting.

[Dierks Bentley]

Yeah, but what about the social media component? I feel the younger generation. Everything has to be like, every birthday, my queen. And, like, you have to, like, really load up on all this stuff. It's like, oh, my God.

So thankful my wife's not on social media. It's like, I don't have to, like, you know, but it's still just the pressure of, like, you know, the engagement. You got to have the photo. The guy's got to be there to capture the moment. It's like, how's that off? Spontaneous. So there's like, a photographer waiting to capture the engagement moment.

I know that's like the very first song I ever put out. What was I thinking? I fought so hard for that not to be the single. I had this song called I Wish it would break. It was a serious song. It's like what I think of myself as. As a songwriter. I think of myself as I hold on and. And wish it would break and some of these heavier songs. But you look at the numbers, I guess I'm. That's not who I am.

My favorite song of yours ever is not a single. I mean, I guess it was a single, but it was so serious and slow at a time where I guess those songs are like, bad. But. Yeah. Bourbon in Kentucky.

Yeah, there was a lot of. So I posted something and it got kind of picked up. I wasn't even posting it for me. A friend of mine here in Nashville, she's been trying out for the show for a long time. I've been trying to help her, but I do love the show. And then the opportunity kind of, like, came back that it was a possibility, even though I wasn't looking for it. And I had to kind of, like, really think about it. And I have a lot of respect for those. The contestants on that show. You know, it's one thing. Everyone watches it and goes, oh, yeah, I could do that. I could do. You know, but, man, I mean, I have three tempurpedic pillows I like to have, like, positioned just right. And I'm kind of like, you know, I don't know. And also a lot of stuff going on with the album, the tour, whatnot, this year, but at some point I could. I'd love to maybe get it, give it a try.

So it was an option, though.

Was an option, yes. Yeah.

Tuesdays, so the neck pain from riding the B. But you're hockey. You're hockey. And with no physical limitations at all.

There's a guy named Bobby Ryan who's like, you know, he's the second overall draft pick back in 2003. I skate with him and he. I ran into him the other day and I. I'd never had a stinger before. I've watched a lot of football. You watch guys walking off the field where they can't move an arm. And it compressed my neck back so bad so badly, and I couldn't move my arm. I go, oh, it's just a stinger. You know, because that's what they say on tv. Like, he'll be fine. It's just a stinger. Let me tell you, a stinger really hurts. Like, you. You can't move your arm for, like, five minutes. So I got that the other day. Thanks, Bobby. But different.

I love the country, but I don't like this song.

And I kind of pushed him on it because he. He did kind of, like, try and side sweep it. And I was like, no, tell. Tell me about your group chat. And he came out with it.

Now, this is my opinion. We go around the room. You can't go out with this guy again. For a couple of reasons. One, he's not even smart enough to lie about the group chat. He's already disgusting for being in. So the. The super second symptom is he brings it up like an idiot that he's in one. And then he admits that he's in some disgusting naked group chat. He's the dumb, dumb. But if you go even deeper, the fundamental. Who's in a group chat with a bunch of dudes that send Them naked girls. And that, to me, feels disgusting. Okay, but let's just say. Because I'm gonna let Lunchbox have his minute here too. Lunchbox will have some reason, but who gets in a chat, people you don't even know? Which feels even more gross. This is so gross on so many levels. And he's dumb. You cannot go out with this guy again. That's. That would be my opinion. Now, we're gonna save the. Because, yeah, it's like Eddie knows someone. So if Eddie's friends with him, like, he adds me to the group text, it's like, I kind of know the guy through Eddie. It's no big deal.

[Bobby Bones]

Okay, that's not osmosis, but I feel you, but continue on.

Yeah. And he was even upfront about it. Like, it's not like he lied about it already.

[Bobby Bones]

He tried to lie, though.

No, no, he didn't try to lie because she said, group chats, blah, blah, blah, blah. And he straight up said, oh, I'm in this one. That's kind of annoying. He told her right about it, right up front. He wasn't trying to hide naked girls. He just said, it's a little funny thing that we laugh at during the day. Like, it's something to break up the workday.

[Bobby Bones]

Not a big laughing. I don't think it's a comedy thread, dude.

[Lunchbox]

It's not like they're good. They're not going home and looking at this and going, oh, my gosh. It's just something funny at work. Like, oh, I came across this on the Internet.

[Bobby Bones]

Huh.

[Amy]

So if your wife got onto your phone and you had a group text a bunch of guys just sending negative pictures and videos of other strange women. Like, if I told her about it.

[Bobby Bones]

I don't think he wanted to tell her. He tried to get out of it.

[Lunchbox]

But did he tell you straight up? It's about naked chicks?

[Amy]

But this is what she said.

[Morgan]

But I. I did press him on it. It did. He wasn't, like, coming out and just saying it. I kind of pressed him to be like, hey, what's the context?

[Amy]

It's a gateway.

[Bobby Bones]

Yes. There's. I don't think. This is not. This is not comedy, though.

[Amy]

It's a gateway to more things to come. If you get into a relationship with this guy that are going to be very problematic.

[Lunchbox]

Okay, so would it be a red flag if, like, every third Thursday of the month he goes to the dance club with his friends?

[Amy]

For me, yes.

[Bobby Bones]

Oh, yeah. Like a strip club Thursday.

[Lunchbox]

It's a tradition Man.

[Bobby Bones]

Okay, maybe every week, third month. Every month.

[Amy]

Maybe if you said a bachelor party every 10 years or something, but you went every Thursday.

[Lunchbox]

They've been doing it for, you know, 10 years. It's just something they do. It's not a big deal.

[Amy]

I know. It's weird.

[Lunchbox]

Embrace naked guys. Like, why are we so.

[Bobby Bones]

I don't mind embracing. I don't. No, no, no. I don't. I don't mind naked. It doesn't matter. That's your opinion. I'm not. I don't agree with it, but I can just stop talking about it. That fair?

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

Would you like to hear what osmosis is?

[Amy]

Huh?

[Bobby Bones]

Like, for example, osmosis to me a funny way. Or I would be like, if I slept. If I put my head on a book and I slept on it, and then this doesn't happen. But if all this stuff came into your brain because you're sleeping on the book, I would be like, I learned that through osmosis. But, like, imagine you have a cup of water and you put a gummy bear in the water. Okay? So at first, the gummy bear is small in the water, but after a while, the gummy bear obviously gets bigger. That's because the water moves into the gummy bear through tiny, tiny, tiny invisible holes. And then the water wants to spread out and make things even. And so it's inside of it. That is osmosis. Oh.

[Amy]

I just learned about this with my son, except for the. His schoology or whatever we were using used a potato instead of a gummy beer.

[Bobby Bones]

Potatoes. Great. Because the water will balance it out. Like, if the water's in there, wherever the water is, it's not going to stay concentrated to one place where it's all lopsided. It'll. The water then balances out to be. It goes inside of it, and that's osmosis. So just wanted to describe osmosis. I like lunchbox's ability sometimes to throw words in, but I do need to say, hey, that's not the accurate representation or definition of the word. Did you understand?

[Lunchbox]

Yeah, I understood it now, but I thought it was close. I mean, I thought it was kind of close.

[Bobby Bones]

I want. I wonder what you were looking for, but that's okay. All right.

[Amy]

I think maybe, you know, like, you got a bunch of molecules hanging out together.

[Bobby Bones]

Oh, no.

[Amy]

I think we're just like, hey, it's just like osmosis.

[Bobby Bones]

He's like, strip club once every Thursday. Yeah. Morgan, are you going out with them again?

[Morgan]

No, no, I'm Not.

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah, it had been over right there for me.

[Morgan]

Well, I. I'm curious, though. If you are on a date with this person, this happens. Like, do you finish the date or do you just up and leave?

[Bobby Bones]

I don't up and leave because I'm not so offended personally, because nothing's happening. Illegal. But I don't think it's somebody that I want to be with.

[Amy]

Right.

[Bobby Bones]

The only thing, I think I probably cut it shorter with natural ways to cut it shorter. Like, I don't hang around. We don't go for something after. You may run into them again. I don't. Yeah, I. I don't leave. I don't gotta go. I got diarrhea. I gotta go home. That doesn't happen because it does happen other times.

Okay.

I didn't.

You know, I. I finished the day. They didn't leave.

You were looking for an out. You were looking for an out. You didn't like him anyway. This is just an excuse.

No, this is bigger than an excuse. She might not have liked him, but she. I would imagine if this. He's in a thread with a bunch of dudes he doesn't know. There are other things about him that she probably doesn't like. But I don't think this would be the thing if everything else was perfect. I can't believe this would be something that exists in that guy's life. I didn't mean to cut you off, Amy. What do you want to say?

[Amy]

Oh, no, I didn't mean to cut you off. I was just trying to think of what would make me ever get up halfway through the day and leave early without waiting. And it would have to be someone.

[Bobby Bones]

Saying, like, the N word.

[Amy]

Yeah. Racism. Inappropriate touching.

Bonehead story of the day.

This story comes to us from Miami, Florida. A guy owns a car dealership, sells a car to a dude. Six months later, he misses one payment. Car dealership owners, like, I gotta go get that car. Finds him at a stoplight, comes up, bangs on his window, flashes a gun, says, give me the keys. Sat there, carjacked him at the stoplight.

[Amy]

Wow.

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah, that's extra repo. I don't know what the rules are on repo. If one. I don't think it's one payment. We missed a lot of payments growing up. Did he buy it? Like, not under contract? Was it verbal contract?

[Lunchbox]

No, no, it was a contract.

[Bobby Bones]

Oh.

[Amy]

But I'm definitely picturing as one of those places on the side of the road that doesn't even look like a car dealership, but it has a bunch.

[Bobby Bones]

Of cars, and it's just like, we agree. But then if you.

[Lunchbox]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Amy, you're exactly right. And the car dealership owner has been sentenced to eight years in prison for carjacking.

[Amy]

Wow.

[Bobby Bones]

So you have to do it at night when no one's looking. With a tow truck. Tow truck. Right. That's crazy. Okay, I'm Lunchbox.

[Lunchbox]

That's your bonehead story of the day, Bones.

[Bobby Bones]

Eddie, what happened?

[Eddie]

I almost lost two of my kids.

[Bobby Bones]

I mean. You lost them?

[Eddie]

I went to heaven. Like, lost them. Like, they almost died.

[Bobby Bones]

Dude, that's just a funny way to say that. Okay, go ahead.

[Eddie]

So I've never done this before, but my 17 year old, obviously, he drives. He has a license. And my other son had practice, so I said, hey, will you go pick up our other son, please, at practice? Yeah, no problem. He gets in his car, he leaves, and like, 20 minutes later, I get a FaceTime. And he's like, dad, dad.

[Bobby Bones]

Oh, my goodness.

[Eddie]

I can't see out of my car. The defrost isn't working. People are honking at me. I'm in someone's yard. And then my other son, who's 11 years old, is crying in the backseat, like, dad, they're gonna shoot us. We're in. Yeah, he's.

[Bobby Bones]

The yard. Yeah.

[Eddie]

He thinks the neighbors or someone's gonna come out of the house and be like, what are you doing in our yard? And so apparently, he couldn't work the defrost button, and the whole windows got fogged up and he couldn't see anything. And he said that they almost died. They almost got hit by four cars until he ditched it and went into someone's yard.

[Amy]

Oh, my.

[Bobby Bones]

So do you put this blame on yourself at all?

[Eddie]

Kind of. Because, like, I guess I've never taught him about the defrost button, but I just assume, like, you're. You drive. This is your car. This is how you roll the windows down. This is how you lock the doors. This is the defrost button. And I just never taught them about defrost.

[Bobby Bones]

You could also teach Amy.

[Amy]

Rude.

[Bobby Bones]

I mean, she's driven to work with, like a tiny hole and we've all probably not let our car fully defrost, which is not safe. And you're like looking through a small selection.

[Amy]

Yeah, mine was ice, not just fog.

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[Amy]

It was like ice.

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah. So wait, how far were they in the yard?

[Eddie]

He said that they started on a driveway, but since he couldn't see, he felt that it got rough and then they just ended up in the front yard.

[Bobby Bones]

Wow. And then what did you do to help them out of the situation?

[Eddie]

I said, stay right there, I will go meet you and figure it out.

[Bobby Bones]

And how deep were they in the yard when you got there?

[Eddie]

I didn't get there because they called me back and said, you know what, dad? We figured out there's a little button here that's got little wavy things on it and that just fixed everything.

[Dierks Bentley]

Like.

[Eddie]

Yeah, that's called a defrost button. That's what you should have hit to begin with.

[Bobby Bones]

All seriousness, if they're like, people are honking and they're pulling. Pulling a yard, you almost lost two kids to heaven.

[Eddie]

Scary, man, scary. And I was talking to Amy too, earlier about like, you know, oh, what if, like, you know, I have to go pick up all my kids from school, but I can't do it. Do I send my son?

[Bobby Bones]

Because, yeah, like, this is a good lesson. I wouldn't keep him from doing that because of this.

[Amy]

No, he was like, he doesn't want to put all of his kids in the same car with the oldest president. He loses. He could lose them all.

[Bobby Bones]

That's what I'm saying. Like president, vice president. Why they don't travel.

[Eddie]

Yeah, because I almost lost two right there. What if I lost all four?

[Bobby Bones]

You didn't almost lose two, but that was an unfortunate situation that could have resulted in something terrible happening. Think of all the times as kids, teenagers, we did something or we were unknowledgeable about something, and we almost had something like this happen.

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

5, 6, 7, 8 times. And we learned from it and became mid level adults.

[Eddie]

Well, now my 11 year old's like, I'm not driving ever. Ever.

[Bobby Bones]
