I mean, are you tired or are you rested?

[Laney Wilson]

I'm rested right now. I got like a three week break, which is the longest break I've had in a really long time.

[Bobby Bones]

Does that break allow you to be bored and then be creative again?

[Laney Wilson]

Yes. I feel more creative than I have in a very long time. It's funny you say be bored because I kept saying, I need to get bored, I gotta get bored. So whatever that looks like, I need to watch paint dry. But I feel more creative than ever. And I'm realizing that, like, you got to give yourself that space to be bored. To get creative.

[Bobby Bones]

I had to get in that space too. I didn't realize it because I would just run and do 72 things and think that I was really accomplishing something. What I was doing is just tasking.

[Laney Wilson]

That's it.

[Bobby Bones]

But then I would be so far behind on creating things to where even like last year I was like, I've got to be bored. And it sounds like a lame thing to say.

[Laney Wilson]

I know, but. But it's so true.

[Bobby Bones]

There are two places being bored or in the shower for me. For some reason, I'm like able to think clearly in this. Maybe because there are no other options.

[Laney Wilson]

I know. And a place for me now is, well, I come up with song ideas in the shower. But also I just got me a red light sauna. Things changed my life. And I leave my phone out of it. I get in there and I just like sit with me and my own thoughts, which is kind of a scary thing at times. But it's a good place just to shut it down. Like really shut it down.

[Bobby Bones]

An admission we have a Red light sauna as well. But I keep my phone in there until that little message goes, your phone's too hot. Throw it out. I swear. I know. It is terrible of me.

[Laney Wilson]

That is hilarious.

[Bobby Bones]

You know, when you leave it on the sun, it'll go, phone's too hot. I will keep it until it says that and then I'll.

[Laney Wilson]

And then you let it cool off.

[Bobby Bones]

And then I'll lay it outside. Yeah, I just. I just felt self shame when she told her story of, like having.

[Laney Wilson]

I mean, I'll definitely take it in there before. Yeah, that's hilarious.

[Bobby Bones]

I have some. And I usually don't do this, but I feel like some of these are so interesting. I have some talking points and I always get talking points from your people. And sometimes we hit them, sometimes we don't. But some of them are so interesting because again, you've done so much. I would like to just hit a point and you tell me a story about each of them.

[Laney Wilson]

Let's do it.

[Bobby Bones]

Number one, you co hosted the CMAs with Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan. What's your favorite story from that?

[Laney Wilson]

Oh, my gosh. Well, first of all, Luke is like, right before, he'll be like, hey, let's switch it up. Let's do this. And I was about to have a heart attack. He's the kind of dude that can do anything on. On the fly like that. Not me. I'm like, I'm reading this prompter and I'm doing a good job to read the prompter. You know, there were a few times when I was like, squinting my eyes because I had terrible vision. And so the next week I went and got Lasik. I said, if I'm gonna be reading teleprompters and we can't be doing all this.

[Bobby Bones]

So you got Lasik? Because, I mean, probably. Do you wear glasses at all?

[Laney Wilson]

Yeah, so I got glasses when I was in fourth grade. Terrible, terrible vision. But it was after the CMA's where I was like, I need to do something about this.

[Bobby Bones]

Did it help?

[Laney Wilson]

100%.

[Bobby Bones]

That's what Eddie said too. Oh, yeah.

[Eddie]

That's amazing.

[Bobby Bones]

My. I have one eye that doesn't work. My right eye doesn't work. Gets like 8% vision. But that's a. It's a brain thing. I would love to go get Lasik because we have people that, that we know that do Lasik, and it's a game changer. And you're saying from experience. It's totally changed everything.

[Laney Wilson]

It's totally changed everything. And I wasn't the best about taking my contacts out. You know how it is on the road. You're just, like, doing good to get in the bed, and it's changed everything. I can see the big E now.

[Bobby Bones]

The big E. The big E. You.

[Laney Wilson]

Know, when you're doing your eye exam?

[Bobby Bones]

Oh, the eye exam.

[Eddie]

I was wondering, too.

[Bobby Bones]

I like the big E. Is this sometime. Got it. What's Peyton Manning like to work with?

[Laney Wilson]

He's awesome. He is very chill. Him and my boyfriend, they're buddies and have gone hunting together and have so much to talk about. So it's like he wants to talk about Duck with me.

[Bobby Bones]

Duck your boyfriend?

[Laney Wilson]

Yes.

[Bobby Bones]

Yes, yes, yes. The halftime show of the Cowboys game, Thanksgiving. That's pretty cool.

[Laney Wilson]

38 million households tuning in. I'm glad they didn't tell me that until it was over.

[Bobby Bones]

What do we not know about that? Meaning what can you hear? How is it different than a normal show?

[Laney Wilson]

So my vocal. My vocal was live, but the band. That was all tracks. Because it was. It's too. It's too much to, like, get out there and make sure the instruments are all tuned. I want to say, like, quick turnover like that. So the only thing that was live was my vocal. So my band had it easy that night.

[Bobby Bones]

Do they. Did they fake play?

[Laney Wilson]

Yeah. They have to mime that? Yep.

[Bobby Bones]

That's funny, because I know I'd get caught not doing it or I'd get caught, like, doing something weird. I know.

[Eddie]

What about the drums? Are they hitting the drums?

[Laney Wilson]

They're still playing. They're still doing all of the things.

[Amy]

It's just not plugged in.

[Laney Wilson]

But it's just not like, going through the PA because that would have been. Because you know how it is in a stadium. It's like, lots of. Lots of feedback and delay and delay and talk about technical difficulties. I mean, we were running into them, like, seconds leading into the performance. I could not hear myself in my ears at all. And I thought, well, Lord, here we go.

[Bobby Bones]

And your hometown. Like, how. How's Baskin doing?

[Laney Wilson]

Baskin's good. They just named the highway after me. No way.

[Amy]

The entire highway.

[Laney Wilson]

A little part of the highway. The same highway that I got a ticket on when I was 15. So that's funny.

[Bobby Bones]

That's pretty cool. Have you seen the sign yourself? Yeah, I did take a picture by it.

[Laney Wilson]

Oh, yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

It is pretty cool.

Now you can't, like, commit a crime. There's, like, a pressure. Like, my hometown put up a sign on me.

[Laney Wilson]

I was like, well, I can't I.

[Bobby Bones]

Know now I have to.

[Laney Wilson]

I've just been itching to.

[Bobby Bones]

Me too. Like, I was literally gonna rob a bank the next day, and I like, dang it.

[Laney Wilson]

Well, yeah, that'll hold you accountable. Just get a highway, and that will hold you accountable.

[Bobby Bones]

What's happening this year? Like, what are you excited about in 2025?

[Laney Wilson]

We're about to go across the pond. I'm excited to play Paris. I didn't even know there were country music fans in Paris, but there are.

[Bobby Bones]

Do you worry about and have. Because you can get tickets. You know, we. Our shows on internationally in some places. So if you're listening to this and you want to go watch Laney and Zurich or Berlin or London. London. I feel like a lot of country music fans, for sure. Yeah. But Paris, you're right. And I see the Paris show in March.

[Laney Wilson]

Yep.

[Bobby Bones]

Do you look at, like, ticket sales for them to go? Is anybody even gonna buy a ticket in Paris?

[Laney Wilson]

Well, we were worried, like, because the truth is, lots of country artists don't go to Paris. I think a handful of them have. I think Luke Combs did once, and I was like, well, let's just say. Let's just have a very, very small venue. It'll just be, you know, acoustic or whatever we need to do just to, like, show face and go see, like, test the waters. And then we sold out in just a few minutes. So then we just. We kept, like, getting bigger venues.

[Bobby Bones]

That's cool. Have you played anywhere where they don't know English yet or English isn't their first language?

[Laney Wilson]

Yes. Germany.

[Bobby Bones]

How did that go? Do they sing it. Does it sound weird when they sing it back?

[Laney Wilson]

If you're watching their mouths when you're trying to remember your own lyrics, it can get pretty risky. So you have to look at their forehead.

[Bobby Bones]

I feel like they would be extremely grateful for American acts to come overseas. Not because they're just dying for American acts, but anybody that they like. If they do travel all that way. I feel like that would be a very, like, grateful crowd.

[Laney Wilson]

They are very grateful. That's the best word to use for. For all of the country music fans across the pond, because you can just tell they love storytelling, and you can tell that storytelling is not oversaturated over there. And so they're just, like, on the edge of their seat. They just want to hear it. They want to lean in and listen. So it's important for me to remember that I had more fans over there than I did here back in, like, 2018, 2019.

[Bobby Bones]

You're like the boy bands of the 90s. They were massive over in Europe, and they came over in America, and people.

[Laney Wilson]

Were like, I wasn't massive. I just.

[Bobby Bones]

You were in sync. You were in sync of the 90s, Lainey.

[Laney Wilson]

That was it. I was. That was me.

[Bobby Bones]

I want to do deep questions with Lainey Wilson. I've got three very deep questions. Okay, Think about these here. If your next five years were a chapter in a book, what do you think that chapter would be about?

[Laney Wilson]

Balance. Actually, Keith Urban said something to me, I guess, about a year ago. I was just like, how do you. How do you keep that balance? Like, with. With your work, with family, with making sure that you're taking care of your business, but also taking care of your relationships and friendships and all that. And he told me, he said, it's better to maintain balance than try to always achieve it. And I was like, to me, that means being able to. To have just as much time with my people and the people that I love as just as much time as I'm working and putting, you know, not putting my eggs all in one basket.

[Bobby Bones]

Question number two. What is a lesson that you learned the hard way?

[Laney Wilson]

Oh, lord, don't go 75 and a 45.

[Bobby Bones]

Now are you being literal?

[Laney Wilson]

No.

[Bobby Bones]

Okay, fair.

[Laney Wilson]

I mean, well, yes, I've definitely gone 75 and a 45, but, yeah, I think, like, slowing down, like, taking a breath, looking up, enjoying it. Because those moments can, like, pass you by. And everybody says it, you know, they're like, make sure you're taking time to be present. And I just. I think I just heard that and heard it over and over again, but didn't quite understand it until maybe I did let some moments pass me by too quick.

[Bobby Bones]

I think the understanding of it comes once you've had the experience of not doing it right.

[Laney Wilson]

Yes.

[Bobby Bones]

Otherwise, it's just frou frou words.

[Laney Wilson]

Yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

Because there have been times, too, where I've just gone again, 10,000 miles an hour. And I regret not slowing down, but I don't think I would have slowed down later and appreciated it later.

[Laney Wilson]

Yes.

[Bobby Bones]

Had I not done it wrong initially.

[Laney Wilson]

That's right. And two, I felt like when I was going 75 and a 45, at times, it was important. You know, squeaky wheel gets the grease, and I felt like I needed to keep the pedal down to. To keep. Just keep going. And had I not. I mean, things might not look like they do right now, so I wouldn't, like, go back and really change it all, but I'm just learning I'm just. I'm growing. Even with this record that we put out in August, Whirlwind, I definitely had that feeling of, like, oh, shoot. Like, I hope people think that this is, like, a step up. You know, we got to level up. But I also knew that it was still the best thing I had ever done. And I was more proud of it than anything that I'd ever done. So I was like, well, if I can go to sleep at night, lay my head down and really believe that, then I did my job. Somebody was telling me. I can't even remember who it was. It was another artist. They were like, it's like you're about to send your kid off to school for the first time. And, you know, you are so excited. You're like, get these kids out of the house. Like, send them to school. Put their butt in school. And then all of a sudden, like, the days are. They're getting here, and you're scared and you're nervous and you're sad, and you have a lot of feelings that come along with it. I'm sure you do.

[Bobby Bones]

Final question. Deep questions with Laney. What would you do if you were not afraid that you haven't done? What would you do if you were not afraid? Straight up.

[Laney Wilson]

I mean, skydive. But.

[Amy]

Would you be allowed to do that right now, at this point in your career? Would your people be like, can we hold off on that? Things are looking up.

[Laney Wilson]

You know what? I think I'm gonna go book me an appointment today. Let's see what they say.

[Bobby Bones]

I went skydiving because I was so afraid of it. Went by myself.

[Laney Wilson]

Really?

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah, Because I was just terrified of it. And I was like, I gotta go do it. I hated it. I would again. I didn't tell anybody I was doing it.

[Laney Wilson]

You wouldn't do it again?

[Bobby Bones]

No. God, no. I hated it, but I did it. But I only did it because I was so afraid to do it.

[Laney Wilson]

Yeah. And I normally do things that I'm afraid of, too. So I keep talking about being afraid of skydiving, which probably means that I am going to do it at some point in time, but I don't. I'm not, like, itching to do it.

[Bobby Bones]

What was funny to me was. And this has been a couple years, when you started to really pop, when people started questioning if your accent was real.

[Laney Wilson]

Yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

I would just laugh.

[Laney Wilson]

Yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

And that had to be weird for you to. Where you're like, I've talked like this my whole life. And now people. You can literally go on Your Instagram go back in time and see you talking like you talk and where you're from. That's odd, huh?

[Laney Wilson]

Oh, my gosh. Well, honestly, that bothered me more than anything else. They would say, you tell me I'm ugly and I can't sing, but don't talk about the way I talk. That's something you can't change.

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah, it was weird for the mic. She's the industry plant. She doesn't even talk like that.

[Laney Wilson]

I know.

And she jumps up on stage, and we had already sang Heart Like a Truck. And she jumps up there and she's like, lainey Wilson, you're my best friend. She talked just like me. I was like, what in the world? And she was like, you're my best friend. And my daddy said, if I could get up on stage, he's gonna buy me a horse trailer. My favorite song is Heart Like a Truck. This story comes to us from Florida. Two roommates. One of them has a PS5 that's a PlayStation 5. Other one doesn't. And one of them's playing it. He's like, hey, are you playing my PlayStation 5? He's like, yeah, I didn't tell you could play my PlayStation 5.

[Bobby Bones]

I'll kill you.

[Lunchbox]

So the roommate calls police, and, hey, he's threatening me. Police show up, and the guy throws a baloney sandwich at the cop. So he gets arrested for assault on an officer.

[Bobby Bones]

This thing just turned more into more like one of my dreams. Like, it makes no sense. Like, it leads you nowhere. Nobody gets killed. Baloney is a weapon on a cop.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby Bones]

All that sounded like the music. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. Okay, thank you.

Big weekend. We're going to the Super Bowl. We're very excited about it. We are in New Orleans already. We've been doing all this football stuff. Your question is, what?

[Eddie]

Is there a difference between a suit and a tux?

[Amy]

Yes.

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah.

[Eddie]

Like what? What's the difference? They look the same.

[Bobby Bones]

Tux. If you show up at a place where everybody's just wearing a suit and you're in a tux, it's too much. It's a little much. We have the.

[Lunchbox]

Is.

[Bobby Bones]

Are you asking about the dinner tonight?

[Eddie]

Yeah, the dinner. So I'm like. I have, like. I don't know what to wear.

[Bobby Bones]

We have. What's the commissioner's dinner? The NFL commissioner has invited me. A plus one. My date's going to be Eddie to go. And it's all the NFL owners. It's pretty cool. Never been invited before.

[Laney Wilson]

Wow.

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah, it's all the owners and, like, some players and the commissioner and. Yeah, we have to wear a suit and. Eddie. So you want to wear it?

[Eddie]

Well, well, like, I have a couple suits, but they don't fit right. But when you got married, you know, you got us all tuxes, and that's what I Wore to the CMAs. And I got it all fitted and everything recently, so it fits perfectly. So I'm thinking, like, the tux is ready to go, or do I squeeze into a suit? But is it really different?

[Amy]

You can wear. I think you can wear that with a tie. Like, you don't wear it with a bow tie. I think that, that if you have the. The bow tie and the vest or a cummerbund, like, that's when you start to elevate a little bit.

[Bobby Bones]

I kind of want to wear the.

[Eddie]

Cummerbund now that you say that like dumb and dumber.

[Amy]

Like, if you've got a nice jacket with some nice pants, which is that part of the tux.

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah.

[Amy]

Then throw on, like, just a normal shirt and tie.

[Bobby Bones]

I would also just say wear like slacks and a jacket.

[Amy]

Oh, what are you gonna wear, Bobby?

[Bobby Bones]

Just a suit.

[Amy]

He needs to be in a suit.

[Bobby Bones]

I'm not even wearing a suit. I'm wearing a jacket with slacks. It's not a. It's not a suit.

[Laney Wilson]

Oh.

[Bobby Bones]

I mean, it's a jacket with a button up shirt. But suit is just what they say to make sure you're wearing something suit, like. Okay, but if you show up in a full tux, I will allow it.

[Amy]

I mean, that'd be kind of funny.

[Eddie]

Yes, it would be funny.

[Bobby Bones]

I will allow it and I will lol.

[Eddie]

And all the owners would be like, who's the dude in the tux?

[Bobby Bones]

They give them their drinks here. Sarah, would you walk around with a tray?

[Eddie]

Look like a server?

[Bobby Bones]

Yeah.

[Amy]

I think you should really go full.

[Bobby Bones]

Blown tux, you know, I mean, I have it, bones.

[Laney Wilson]

I'm ready to go.

[Bobby Bones]

I would say just wear it. Don't steal any show. You don't need to steal any show because it'll look weird for me. Wear slacks and a jacket.

[Eddie]

You got it.

[Bobby Bones]

You don't even have to wear a tie. Bring one. Bring one just in case. But I don't think you have to wear a tie. Okay. You can wear a suit without a.

[Eddie]

Tie, jeans and a jacket.

[Bobby Bones]

No, no jeans because it's not our event. So at least if there's a. Just generally speaking, if you're going to an event and you're not quite sure on the dress code, you always want to err to the side of being slightly overdressed, as opposed to underdressed, because then you look like the hillbilly.

[Eddie]

Well, that's why I was thinking tux, but that may be a little too overwhelming.

[Bobby Bones]

That's a little too much right there. Looks like you're doing a bit. So we're out. Hope everybody has a great and safe weekend. Hope you have a fun Super Bowl. I hope you watch again. Maybe you see us on tv. You won't.

I mean, we could.
