And we hope you stay Cause we.
Kevin
Got lots to say. Yeah, we got lots to say. Now here's Bobby and Matt. What's up bud?
Bobby Bones
What's up buddy? It's a Tuesday.
Kevin
No, it's a Wednesday when the show comes out.
Bobby Bones
Oh, that's what I meant.
Kevin
Yeah, we do this. You confused. Everybody already listening.
Bobby Bones
Sorry.
Kevin
We record this late Tuesday afternoon, so you have to be like, it's A Wednesday. We won't edit that out. So don't edit it out, but do that again. But say it's a Wednesday.
Bobby Bones
It's a Wednesday.
Kevin
That it is, my friend.
Bobby Bones
Love it.
Kevin
A couple things I do want to get to the golf trip that you totally missed out on. That was freaking awesome.
Bobby Bones
Was it incredible? It was the best because I went and looked online, looked at all the pictures. I'm sitting there, I'm looking at your Instagram feed, just drooling, going, oh, how about that? Part three. A big winner. 19th hole.
Kevin
A plus, a plus, a plus all the way around. What I want to do first. I am wearing a Payne's Valley hat from.
Bobby Bones
You are. It looks great.
Kevin
You have a little something on yourself.
Bobby Bones
Oh, a little, little. Never been there. But my brother, thank you so much. Birthday present gift shop.
Kevin
So, speaking of hats, I do want to start this show with something we've been talking about over the past maybe two months. I grew up not having a favorite NFL team. Like love the NFL and fantasy football makes you care about every NFL team.
Bobby Bones
True.
Kevin
But being in Arkansas, we didn't have a team and the Cowboys were everybody's team. So the Cowboys weren't my team because they were everybody's team.
Bobby Bones
Got it.
Kevin
And also they were so good. I refuse to jump on a team that's already good.
Bobby Bones
I kind of locked into it. My dad was from, as I told you, Texas.
Kevin
You didn't jump?
Bobby Bones
No, I didn't jump. I just jumped.
Kevin
You were brought in?
Bobby Bones
I was brought in, naturally.
Kevin
For sure. So I have whittled it down to four teams.
Bobby Bones
Yes. Have you really?
Kevin
I have.
Bobby Bones
And I'm pretty impressed by this, so.
Kevin
And I have four hats.
Bobby Bones
Four hats. Let's see which one looks best on you.
Kevin
So I don't have my one team yet, but I have the four teams that I'm going to be a massive fan of. And I think what that means this year is I'm going to follow, I'm going to promote. We'll go to a game, Maybe we go interview the coach.
Bobby Bones
I love this.
Kevin
I'm just going to be hyper invested into this team. I have chosen. Now, I haven't chosen the one, but I have chosen whomever this is purposefully, with intent, and they're going to be my team all year.
Bobby Bones
And I'm guessing this is not a team that's already there.
Kevin
Who knows?
Bobby Bones
Because I know you.
Kevin
What do you know?
Bobby Bones
I can't jump on the bandwagon for a team that's already good. So it's not going to be the Eagles. It won't be Kansas City. Won't be. Probably Buffalo. I. I'm interested and intrigued by this.
Kevin
If you had to pick a team or two, who would you think I'll pull out of there?
Bobby Bones
Jacksonville, potentially. Maybe Tampa Bay. Even though they won a Super Bowl a few years ago, but still, Tom Brady's gone.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Let's see.
Kevin
Those two are fine.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Arizona, potentially.
Kevin
Okay. Solid picks. All right. I don't know the order. These hats are on my hand, so I'm just going to go first. The first hat that I. I feel.
Bobby Bones
Like you're kind of at the. You know, when they're announcing. The college kids are announcing their school and they've got all the hats up there and you, like, put one on. I'm going to go. No, I'm not. I'm going to go to Clemson. I'm going to go to Ohio State.
Kevin
And then I rip my jersey. It's neither. None of the hats on the hats.
Bobby Bones
And you just completely blew up all the coaches that recruited you.
Kevin
The first hat I'm going to put on.
Bobby Bones
Oh. The Dallas Cowboys.
Kevin
The Dallas Cowboys.
Bobby Bones
So I. I kind of like it. It's close to Arkansas.
Kevin
I mean, a lot of my friends are massive fans.
Bobby Bones
They haven't won since the 90s.
Kevin
They have been a. Yeah. A perennial.
Bobby Bones
Good team.
Kevin
Not meet expectations. I won't say loser because they've made the playoffs and had some winning records, but they have not met their expectations for, I don't know, 25 years.
Bobby Bones
25 years. And this is a chance for you to now be part of a team and an organization that might take it to the next level this year.
Kevin
And Jerry Jones was super cool to us. Took a step in his chopper, let us sit in a suite.
Bobby Bones
I did not get that experience.
Kevin
Yes, true. He did fly your family down, though.
Bobby Bones
He did. That was clutch. I love Jerry Jones for that forever.
Kevin
So, Dallas Cowboys. Kevin, how do you feel about the Cowboys? If. If I were to select the Cowboys.
Brandon
I think it's kind of a cop out. Not gonna lie. Just because it's America's team.
Bobby Bones
Wow. But they suck.
Kevin
25 years and the Cowboys suck.
Bobby Bones
And a lot of his friends love him.
Brandon
Yeah, I know. Maybe that's why. Because I'm already surrounded by it so much and there's so many fans. It's like being a Steelers fan.
Kevin
But what if I pull out a Patriots hat?
Brandon
Then, yeah, come on board.
Bobby Bones
He would be so fired.
Kevin
Yes, of course he would. He's a massive Pats.
Brandon
Come on. Yeah, but America. I mean, Dallas is like. They are known as America's team, so I just feel like that's like, you know, that's everyone's team.
Bobby Bones
And we're also asking it from a guy from Boston who believes that his team for the last 20 years has been America's team.
Brandon
Yeah.
Kevin
Yeah.
Brandon
And I mean, the name of the Patriots.
Bobby Bones
I know. It's pretty. Pretty apropos.
Brandon
Yeah.
Kevin
The only people that call Dallas America's team are Cowboys fans. Let's be fair. Nobody that's not a Cowboys fan is, like, America's team. The Dallas Cowboys.
Brandon
True. I do kind of feel like you're. You're a bit of a hidden Cowboy fan, though.
Kevin
I am a fan of people who are nice to me. Fair. And that organization has been super kind to me. I've gone above and beyond in many ways. So I even. I bet a thousand bucks on them to win the super bowl as the season started last year. Mm. Because the odds were good. Like $14,000 like that.
Bobby Bones
It's not a bad bet.
Kevin
I didn't win, so it's a bad bet. But at the time. Yes, at the time.
Bobby Bones
At the time, it had potential.
Kevin
How do I look in the colors?
Bobby Bones
You look great.
Brandon
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You can't go wrong with the Dallas Cowboys. Just, overall, that's cool. Uniform hat.
Kevin
Our guy Brandon over here is a massive Cowboys fan. Grew up in Texas.
Brandon
Yeah.
Kevin
Would you like me to be a Cowboys fan?
Matt Castle
I mean, absolutely.
Kevin
Yes.
Bobby Bones
But I understand if you pick another.
Kevin
All right. He understands if I don't go with the Cowboys. Very nice. Okay, this is hat number.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Hat number one. I like it.
Kevin
Cowboys hat.
Bobby Bones
Star, babe. The star. All right, let's go to choice number two.
Kevin
Hat number two. Now, don't look while I put it on.
Bobby Bones
Okay?
Kevin
Okay, Good, good, good. Hat number two is now on Minnesota Vikings.
Bobby Bones
Let's go, Kevin. Oh.
Kevin
Now, how would I be as a Minnesota Vikings fan?
Bobby Bones
Oh, did Skull Viking. That's all you have to skull, dude. It's so great.
Kevin
Yeah, that's what I like about that. It's very similar to being from Arkansas. We have a chant, and we have a mascot that nobody else has. We have pigs with people. Like, that's so weird. But we're the only one that has it. It's so different, you know? Same thing with the Vikings.
Bobby Bones
Oh, it's pretty unique. When you go to that game and like I said, the Viking comes out of the tunnel on the Harley Davidson, you might even have to get a Harley Davidson.
Kevin
That happens.
Bobby Bones
I've not seen it. Oh, dude, they. So as you start, as you. The teams get called out, they. And then they roll out. The Viking rolls out on a big Harley Davidson. It's badass.
Kevin
The pro to being a Vikings fan is it's been a while since they've won.
Bobby Bones
It has. And they're a really good team. They've got a great coach and they've got tremendous upside.
Kevin
Tremendous. Now, do they have a rookie quarterback? Absolutely. I like that because it's not yelling for sure. This is a top team this year.
Bobby Bones
No, but Justin, Jefferson, Addison, all the different weapons that they have, I mean, they're going to be pretty good. Now if jj, he's the outlier, he, he's the guy that you have to discover whether or not he can play. But if he's anything what they thought he was going to be become, there'll be a really good football team.
Kevin
The con is pretty far and the con is cold weather. The pro is dome.
Bobby Bones
But it's only an hour flight from here. Right.
Kevin
Dome though.
Bobby Bones
It's a dome.
Kevin
Dome.
Bobby Bones
And Minnesota is actually a really cool city. And they've got all the walkways. You can walk around the city.
Kevin
Give me Minneapolis.
Bobby Bones
Minneapolis.
Kevin
What did I say Minnesota was a cool city. I got it.
Bobby Bones
You got it. You know what I'm saying?
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
We're talking about the Vikings.
Kevin
So how do we feel about the Vikings?
Brandon
I love that one.
Bobby Bones
Love it.
Kevin
Why do you love that one, Kevin?
Brandon
I mean, first of all, head coach Kevin o' Connell. What up? He's our boy, you know, expatriate. And I just, I've always been like a hidden fan of the Vikings. I think it's because Randy Moss was my first like favorite NFL player, so I've always rooted for him and I think he looked good in purple.
Bobby Bones
I know.
Kevin
And I think I like just the Midwest attitude because it's very similar. Like the hard working blue collar go to work but have a high octane offense. It's the opposite of blue collar. But other than that, we're going to.
Bobby Bones
Spread around the yard.
Kevin
Okay. So. Okay, that's, that's number two.
Bobby Bones
Number two. All right, we've got two solid picks up this point.
Kevin
All right, eyes closed. Number three is going on now. Do not look. All right, number three is on the Denver Broncos.
Bobby Bones
Let's go.
Kevin
The Denver Broncos. Now why would this be appealing? Why do you think it'd be good to be a Broncos fan now?
Bobby Bones
Well, Colorado's fantastic. I do like Bo Nicks and what he brings to the table. I think under Sean Payton and What they did last year, f with a rookie quarterback to go out there, go to the playoffs. Look, they lost to the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo Bills was a powerhouse last year, but they're building something there. And they've got a rookie quarterback still on a rookie contract for the next three years, which means they can add a lot of pieces around. Around Bo Nicks. I think they're going to be good.
Kevin
Do you feel like if I were a Broncos fan, that would match my personality for what I'm looking for?
Bobby Bones
Yes, because they're a team that has great history but still hasn't got it done in a long time, but a team that has a lot of promise. And at the same time. Have you ever been to a game at Broncos Stadium?
Kevin
I have not, but it's outside. That's why it's a little scary.
Bobby Bones
It's awesome.
Kevin
It is.
Bobby Bones
It's awesome. And those fans rage. They love their team. So when they're good, it's a pretty lively environment.
Kevin
Kevin, your thoughts?
Brandon
Yeah, I don't love it. I'm not gonna lie. The hat's cool, though.
Kevin
Why? You know, this is an old school logo. For those not watching, just listening. This is the old school, the D logo with the horse through it.
Brandon
Yeah. That's cool.
Kevin
Why don't you love it? As me, as a Broncos fan, I.
Brandon
Think as a Patriots fan, as I always speak from. They've given us trouble in the years.
Kevin
Okay. I don't care about the Patriots.
Bobby Bones
I know.
Brandon
But, hey, you're asking everything.
Bobby Bones
Everything that he associates with your teams is how the Patriots feel.
Kevin
I'm asking how you, as a human feel about me being a fan of this team. As a human, that's.
Brandon
Yeah, I could see that fit. It looks like a good fit. The colors look good, and you seem like a Broncos guy because. Because Denver just seems like a city where it's kind of a hidden gem. It's very clean, doesn't go crazy over there. Kind of like you, you know, you don't drink, you don't do anything crazy, but you look at the past and you look at the accomplishments and the quarterbacks and all the history, and you're like, dang.
Bobby Bones
And a weekend trip out. Yeah, a weekend trip out there. Good golf courses and maybe get up to Aspen. Maybe a little getaway with the wife, make it all make sense.
Kevin
I've never been skiing before. Oh, have you?
Bobby Bones
I went once. I used to snowboard in high school before I thought, oh, gosh, I don't want to hurt myself. And then two years ago, we took the kids for the first time, and all the kids are getting on their skis. They're getting ready to get the instruction, the instructor to come out and show them how to do. I'm the only guy there with us. I was gonna snowboard. I'm like, I've snowboarded before. And then I get there, I'm like, what am I doing? I get on skis. Greatest thing ever.
Kevin
Really?
Bobby Bones
Oh, so much easier to get off the lift. I mean, because normally you're unstrapped in the boot when you're coming off on a snowboard. Here, you got both feet in. You just kind of get off, you glide. And as soon as you learn how to just do this, you're golden. Kids rage. It's awesome.
Kevin
I'm just afraid I would tear ACLs, MCLs, PCLs, GCLs, LCLs, anything. That. That's my fear as an adult, man.
Bobby Bones
Well, I mean, you're not gonna go down and hit, like, the double black diamond or anything?
Kevin
No, I plan to start with that. You know how I do.
Bobby Bones
You know what? Just full on, helmet on. Let's go. Par shoot.
Kevin
Full body armor. Like, let's get it. Okay.
Bobby Bones
Just get stuck. It looks good on you.
Kevin
Broncos. Okay.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
One more.
Bobby Bones
It is cold there, though.
Kevin
It is cold.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
All right, last one. Eyes closed. And for the final reveal. Let's go.
Bobby Bones
You're up. The Carolina Panthers, baby. Bryce Young, you're a believer.
Kevin
I'm asking you.
Bobby Bones
I mean, it's close. I know that. I'm not a firm believer that they're there yet, but I can see you being a Carolina Panther fan.
Kevin
I don't need them to be there yet. I just need whomever the team is to know where there is. Like, they. To know that there is a way to get to a certain. I need them to own a gps. I don't care if they get there on their road trip tomorrow. I just need them to have a gps.
Bobby Bones
Well, I'm super encouraged by what you saw with Bryce Young last year, because obviously he went through his struggles, he got benched, he went back in, but played so much better. And it was just that moment in time where sometimes young quarterbacks go through it. He's played to the level that they thought he was going to play. And if he comes along and starts to perform like he did in college, this team could be in a really good position, especially in that division to compete.
Kevin
Kevin.
Brandon
Yeah, I mean, Panthers are cool, but I just don't. I don't see you as a Panthers guy. I think they're just kind of boring. They're everyone kind of like some team, and I think that's boring to you. And also everybody what likes them. Like, no one really has any, like, hard feelings towards the Panthers.
Kevin
I don't think anybody likes them, but I think nobody hates them. And I think people having no interest is worse than people having a bad interest.
Brandon
Exactly.
Bobby Bones
Well, I think part of it, too, is they haven't been one of those teams that frequently have won. So nobody. Nobody hates them because they're not. They're never threatened by them.
Brandon
Exactly.
Kevin
I wish people hated Arkansas, but we're not good enough people to hate us.
Brandon
Yeah.
Kevin
People don't like us. They don't hate us.
Brandon
Yeah. See, I think they're just too boring for. For you.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And I don't know if their fan base is as dedicated as some of these other fan bases that we just talked about.
Kevin
Pound it, baby. How's that sound if I say that just like that? Is that what they say? Pound it, Right.
Brandon
Pound it.
Kevin
Pound.
Brandon
It'll say baby. But they do say pounded, baby.
Kevin
So those are the four teams that. Okay, it's going to be one contention. So if you had to pick one, though, based on what you know about me and those four teams, I'm not holding you to it. Cause you can change it whenever we come back and announce it.
Bobby Bones
I think you're leaning toward Dallas 1. You've got a relationship with the owner, they treat you well. You've got a lot of friends. And like you said, growing up is probably the closest franchise to you that you had any affiliation with. So I think you're leaning toward Dallas.
Kevin
Kevin.
Brandon
Yeah, I'm going to go Minnesota. Still, I think we had some connections with them in the past we haven't really gone through, but maybe this will be the last leap and get you to finally make that final leap of being a fan with the Vikings. We've had Kevin o' Connell on here before, obviously.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
One Cowboy. One Viking. Brandon from the side. Just throw your team out there. Who is it? Vikings. So we got two Vikings, we got one cowboy. Now, I'm 95% sure already know who it is, so I'm not going to change it based on what you guys have said here today. But next week I'll be able to reveal who it is.
Bobby Bones
This is fun. This is fun game. I can't wait to bring my hats next week.
Kevin
You only get to wear, like, three or four anyway. Patriot. You have to be a Patriot or chief.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, that's exactly Right. Yeah, that's exactly right. I was. I mean, Minnesota for two years. That was great.
Kevin
Yeah. We don't know you from that, though.
Bobby Bones
No, no, no. A lot of people do.
Kevin
We want you to wear a hat. That's like when a mom has two sons on opposing teams and the jerseys cut in half.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah.
Kevin
And they do. We want you to have that hat. Chief Patriot. Chapatriot.
Bobby Bones
Chapatriot. Chapatriot. That's on the dinner item for the night. Chapatriat.
Kevin
We'll have a Chatriot, please. Okay. There we go. So next week, I'll be able to tell you that I thought it'd be fun if we did a goats from each team through history. We don't have to do every team today, but we could do some of them. And I thought we'd just go alphabetical and do.
Bobby Bones
Hopefully you've written all these down.
Kevin
I do, Yeah. I have them alphabetical order now. I've spent no time thinking about any of them except for the one we talked about, which was first up, alphabetically, which was Arizona, which we talked about before we came on. That's it. So I haven't done any research, but I think it's the best place to come from.
Bobby Bones
Yes, it's the best place. And I haven't either because I literally.
Kevin
Well, when I texted you we were going to do this, I just thought of it.
Bobby Bones
I like it.
Kevin
So about the same time?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, about the same time.
Kevin
Okay, let's go. Goat of the Arizona Cardinals. We'll take turns going first.
Bobby Bones
Okay. There's two that come to mind, both offensive players. But I have to go with Larry Fitzgerald.
Kevin
Me, too.
Bobby Bones
I mean, he's.
Kevin
I was really.
Bobby Bones
He is.
Kevin
I was drawn to Kurt Warner at first.
Bobby Bones
I was, too, but he was only. He was there for a significant period of time, but not. I mean, what. Larry play 18 years.
Kevin
Yeah. And I think quarterback is often where our brains go because that's the face of the franchise for sure. So we agree?
Bobby Bones
We agree. I mean, it's. It's hard to argue that one.
Kevin
Falcons. Atlanta Falcons. We're standing the A's.
Bobby Bones
How long was Dion there for?
Kevin
I don't have the answer to your question because I didn't research this. Kevin. I bet Kevin could tell us. But now you're going to lean. I. I don't think I would cons Michael Vick.
Bobby Bones
I mean, Michael Vick is legendary, obviously.
Kevin
Five years.
Brandon
Five years.
Kevin
Okay. I know who I have.
Bobby Bones
You know who you have?
Kevin
Yeah, I have. Yeah. You have yours locked in. Because I don't want us changing each other's minds. We can agree we were wrong, but I don't want us changing each other's minds.
Bobby Bones
All right. For me, the first thing that comes to mind is Michael Vick.
Kevin
I have Matt Ryan.
Bobby Bones
Oh, good call.
Kevin
I think both, though, are arguably correct, because Matt Ryan won more. Michael Vick brought more eyeballs to the team.
Bobby Bones
Right. He's such a polarizing figure. And when he came in, he. He played the position unlike any other quarterback to ever play the position. And just his skill set and elite athleticism was just remarkable to watch.
Kevin
And I don't know why I'm fighting for yours. I should just fight for mine.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, now you gotta fight for yours.
Kevin
Yeah. No, I just think. I mean, other than losing this 23.
Bobby Bones
Oh, my gosh.
Kevin
I can't believe he won an MVP, too.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, he's an absolute.
Kevin
But I definitely. If someone argued Mike Vick, I can't say you're wrong because he brought more eyeballs. I mean, he was the guy that TV commercials wanted.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
Matt Ryan really, wasn't he?
Bobby Bones
He was a different type of personality. But you talk about a professional in every sense of the world. Word. And a guy that could come out and perform on Sundays. Matt Ryan was as consistent of a quarterback in the NFL as anybody.
Kevin
Let's go to B's. Baltimore. The Ravens.
Bobby Bones
Oh, Baltimore Ravens.
Kevin
I'm going to write my down, since you're going first. Oh, I'm torn between two.
Bobby Bones
I got one.
Kevin
We probably.
Bobby Bones
I mean, it's. There's two guys I think of, and I think that you're going to lean one way. I'm going to go with Ed Reed.
Kevin
Ed Reed is my second, but we had the same, too.
Bobby Bones
Yes, 100%. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed. That defense, what was it, the 2001 Ravens or 2000 Ravens with the best defense ever?
Kevin
You mean the Trent Dilfer Ravens?
Bobby Bones
Trent Dilfer Ravens. Hey, they were an offensive juggernaut, but that defense was real.
Kevin
Did you play against Ray?
Bobby Bones
I sure did. And Ed, and they were as advertised.
Kevin
I remember you telling us about Ed and how advanced he was. But what was Ray Lewis like? Not to play against, but to look across. Because that's what I think of. Like, how he must have been so intimidating. But again, that's just television talking to me.
Bobby Bones
No, but it's the intensity, which he played the game. And every time you looked across the line of scrimmage, he was. He was the guy that was making calls, calling everything out, getting the defense set. But the his eyes, when you looked at him, he like stare through your soul and it was one of those that you knew that you'd have to bring your aame and then he also was a savvy guy. He's known for coming up and making the big hits but. But when he dropped into pass protection he tried to bait you, he tried to act like he's going one way but fall back in. He was just an all around outstanding player. But in addition to that, it was his leadership qualities that you saw every single game and the intensity in which he played the game made him special.
Kevin
Do you think, and this is meant completely complimentary that his cartoon like attributes, meaning when he comes out and he does the stomp coming out of the tunnel and and Ray Lewis behind the line, do you think that overshadowed how smart of a player he was because he was just seen as the big brute guy who does the big cartoon like movements?
Bobby Bones
I don't believe so. If anybody ever played against him or you can speak to probably any of his teammates, they'd say that that guy brought it each and every day. And while while there's the antics of when he'd come out. But that kind of set the tone for the entire team because when you're on defense your mentality is to go up and deliver violence and so you've got to come out with a certain energy. And he was the aura of that defense right the way that he played the game and it started as soon as they did introductions. You knew, okay, we're playing Baltimore today. Because I always remember getting ready for Baltimore. You're like, gosh, they don't have a lot of holes. They're very sophisticated and how in complex and the different looks that they give you and the different schemes and the personnel units so you always that had to be ready for that. But in addition to that they had the players to back it up which made it even more intimidating.
Kevin
So he was a real cerebral player for sure.
Bobby Bones
He'd see things, call things out. Probably not to the extent of like a Luke Keakley who we've talked about before, but at the same time he was a guy that played so much football that he'd recognize formation and be able to watch the film and understand what we were trying to get accomplished.
Kevin
Buffalo Bills.
Bobby Bones
Buffalo Jim Kelly.
Kevin
See, I would want Bruce Smith not.
Bobby Bones
Hey, he's right up there.
Kevin
I think we go quarterback and Kelly Dillon to four Super Bowls with Bruce Smith also was one of the most dominant defensive players possibly ever. But I would have gone Bruce Smith. You could convince me it was Jim Kelly, though.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And Thurman Thomas, too, on that team, I mean, was a legendary running back and an absolute stud as well. But I'd have to go with Jim Kelly, because even when you go back there and when I was playing, one of the things that make me think Jim Kelly is so after the game, he was like an ambassador. He'd come to the game, sign autographs, do all that. And so we'd come into the tunnel and he'd have a bunch of paps, blue ribbons, a bunch of beers, waiting for the quarterbacks. And we go out and he'd spend 25, 30 minutes telling old stories with.
Kevin
The quarterbacks of the other team.
Bobby Bones
From the other team. Like Brady. Well, let's be honest. He didn't want to hang out with me. He want to hang out with Brady. But. But at the end of the day, he was a guy that was just so cool and authentic, real. And even when I got to Buffalo, one of the cool parts was he brought all the quarterbacks over to his place because he still lived there. And we went out and shot skeet and he had a big barbecue and brought a bunch of people over. And he's just one of those really incredible ambassadors of the game.
Kevin
That's cool to hear. Let's do three more. The not alive for long. And compared to the other teams and possibly my favorite new team, the Carolina Panthers.
Bobby Bones
Gosh. Well, you.
Kevin
I have mine.
Bobby Bones
I know. Are you going quarterback?
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Mark Brunell.
Kevin
Mark Brunell was more of a jag as a jaguar.
Bobby Bones
Well, who are we talking about?
Kevin
Carolina Panthers.
Bobby Bones
Sorry, I take that all back.
Kevin
They do. They did exist at the same time. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Oh, Del home.
Kevin
Oh, I was going Cam Newton.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. What am I talking about? Cam Newton's for sure. The figure that. I'm sorry, I started. He went to a Super bowl, though.
Kevin
Cam Newton did, huh?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm definitely going Cam Newton.
Kevin
Okay, I flipped you on that one.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, sorry. I was all over the map there. Sorry, everybody.
Kevin
Two more. The Bears.
Bobby Bones
Bears. Ooh, Butkus.
Kevin
Interesting. That's not who I would go with, but I could be convinced. It's just weird to compare offense and defense. And it's also weird to compare eras because it's like how the NBA always fights over who is better. Mostly you just have to compare eras with people in them versus the people in them.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, Walter Payton.
Kevin
That's who I have.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, Walter Payton's all time great, for sure. Absolutely incredible. And also, watching those videos of him running the hills in the off season, doing all that stuff that he did. He was a special, special player. So, yeah, Walter Payton.
Kevin
I was listening to Jeff Pearlman, who wrote a book on Walter Payton, talk about Walter Payton and how he would take the souls out of his shoes and play with soulless shoes because he felt like he could feel the ground better and that it was a little painful, obviously, but he felt like he could feel the ground so much better. And it helped him cut, move, run, jump.
Bobby Bones
That he played soulless and then run through people.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
Or around.
Bobby Bones
Or around them.
Kevin
Finally. Cincinnati Bengals.
Bobby Bones
Cincinnati Bengals.
Kevin
Ooh. There's about five here that I feel like we could go with because I feel like, in my opinion, my humble opinion, Cincinnati doesn't have a. A guy.
Bobby Bones
True.
Kevin
So I think we should talk this one out as our final one.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Kevin
Well, I think you have to put Boomer. Boomer. I think you have to put Burrow in there. Boomer went to two Super Bowls, so Boomer over Burrow. Right, But Burrow is way more dynamic. But again, we're comparing eras. That's not fair.
Bobby Bones
It's not fair.
Kevin
I think you have to. Jamar Chase has to be in it because he is. Has been for multiple years, the number one or one, a best receiver in the NFL.
Bobby Bones
Oh, for sure. And then Shadow Chosinko was a stud.
Kevin
Great point. I didn't even think about Ochocinko.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, Ochocinko didn't win.
Kevin
Didn't win, though.
Bobby Bones
Didn't win. I mean, Carson Palmer, my buddy, was there for a long time, and he was an absolute stud.
Kevin
That's a good one.
Bobby Bones
And they were going the first game of the playoffs that year. He just resigned a new deal, and he got rolled up on tours. ACL in the first game of playoffs. Those teams were good teams with Chad Ochocinko, TJ Husmanzada, and Carson obviously pulling the trigger. They had some good teams back then.
Kevin
The only other person I could think of to put in the running, and I can't pick him because it's a position that you're unable to pick because it isn't focused on enough. But it's only because of the accolades he's gotten is Anthony Munoz.
Bobby Bones
Anthony Muniz was an absolute USC product.
Kevin
You know, that means nothing to me.
Bobby Bones
Nothing.
Kevin
Yeah, sorry.
Bobby Bones
Corey Dillon was really good, too. The running back.
Kevin
Too brief.
Bobby Bones
I know. No, he was there for a while.
Kevin
Wasn't too brief at, like, being. I don't think he was a top five back for more than.
Bobby Bones
Well, He's a monster. But I'm just saying, amongst other names, I do.
Kevin
Okay. I felt like you were fighting for somebody at a personal relationship with them.
Bobby Bones
No, he played with me when I was in New England six years.
Brandon
Six, seven years.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Maybe not long enough.
Kevin
And to historians who watch the offensive line, Munoz probably the guy. But yeah, I would pro. I think I would go with Boomer.
Bobby Bones
Yes, I'd go with Boomer.
Kevin
I mean, lost two Super Bowls, but.
Bobby Bones
Got two Super Bowls and was playing the 49ers in their heyday. So, yes, I'm gonna go with Boomer.
Kevin
Hey, that's fun. We'll do.
Bobby Bones
That was fun.
Kevin
Seven or eight more next week.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, just don't confuse Jacksonville Carolina, please.
Kevin
But they literally. They expanded the same year they did, right?
Bobby Bones
Yep.
Kevin
Yeah, those two teams came. They were. They're twins, basically. They came out of the womb at the exact same time.
Bobby Bones
So, yeah, we get swaggy new uniforms.

Bobby Bones
I've been we've been hard on catching catching up on Righteous Gemstones. Have you seen that?
Kevin
All of it.
Bobby Bones
Danny McBride. Have you? Oh, we just started season four. I mean solid.
Kevin
We have a friend that's in the show and so we love.
Bobby Bones
Who's the friend? Come on, tell us.
Kevin
He. What season are they on now?
Bobby Bones
Season four.
Kevin
Is that the final season?
Bobby Bones
I think so. I don't.
Kevin
I have no idea because we've seen every episode. We're done with the show, but I'm not sure how many seasons they've had.
Bobby Bones
I think four total. So we're starting four. Not really sure.
Brandon
Four? Yeah.
Kevin
So his name's Tim. He. He plays the husband of the daughter. He's a Pole dancer this season. Yeah, so. So I know Tim.
Bobby Bones
He's hilarious.
Kevin
Yeah, he's hilarious, but I didn't know him. We started watching the show and loving it before we got to know him. But he's super funny and super nice. But that's an excellent show.
Bobby Bones
It's an excellent show. I mean, it's. It's one of those that you just have to embrace the awkwardness, absurdity of it. It's so absurd.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Another one that's been out for a while that somebody recommended. White Lotus.
Kevin
Yeah. Where are you on that? Season two, I did not get into White Lotus at all until my wife was about to finish this last season. She had two episodes left. I had not watched a single episode of any season.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
And I was like, I'll catch up with you. I didn't know that she was on. I thought she had just started and she was like, you can't. Well, I take that as a challenge. I didn't realize I'd watched four seasons. So I watched all four seasons in about six days, just on a treadmill. Wherever I was, I was watching. I was flying a lot. And I finished all four seasons. And I think the reason I liked it more than even the person I know that likes it is because I don't have to wait episode to episode because I think that could be a slow cooker if you're waiting week to week.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And that's one of those. You could pick it up anywhere and kind of find a theme. Now, they did a great job with the characters and all that stuff and building the relationships. But it's also one of those shows, expect the unexpected. You never know which way they're going with any of it.
Kevin
You're on season two.
Bobby Bones
Season two.
Kevin
There's four.
Bobby Bones
Three or four. Everybody. Everybody I've talked to about it. They're like, season two is the best, but I'm midway through. And there's some slow parts too. Like anything, it drags a little bit.
Kevin
How many seasons?
Brandon
Three.
Kevin
Okay. I've seen all three seasons.
Bobby Bones
Have you?
Kevin
Well, yeah, I had to catch up with my wife.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Which one's your favorite season?
Kevin
I watched them all together. I don't know the difference.
Bobby Bones
You don't even remember.
Kevin
Yeah. Season two is great.
Bobby Bones
Is it?
Kevin
Yeah, that's when you're watching.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
It's what, like the two couples are there together, huh? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like that dude who's like the rich guy in the couple. The good looking dude?
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Kevin
Like, rarely am I like attracted to dudes, but that's a really good looking guy.
Bobby Bones
Well, I can't say that I had the same sentiment toward him, but I can.
Kevin
I was like, that's a good looking dude.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, they're. They're good looking dudes. Yeah. I'll go with you down that. Sure.
Kevin
We just finished a show called Department Q on Netflix that just came out. It's British, but it's very American, but it's British. It's really freaking good. It's about a guy who gets shot and he gets put on leave as a cop, but he comes back to do cold cases. It's great.
Bobby Bones
I get like mystery.
Kevin
Yeah, you got. It's a who done it? Type thing. But it's nine episodes, which is kind of long now. But yeah, it's excellent. It's called Department Q. It just came out, so that's new. And then we finished Last of Us, which is HBO Max. Anybody watching that?
Bobby Bones
Nope.
Kevin
And it is awesome. I didn't play, I didn't play the video game, but it's based off a video game and it has Pedro Pascal in it.
Bobby Bones
Who?
Kevin
I didn't know he was in Narcos.
Brandon
Oh, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah.
Brandon
So good in Narcos.
Kevin
I've seen Narcos and I've seen other Pedro Pascal things. I didn't realize because I've seen Narcos, but it was so long ago. And then on Netflix in the front it says, hey, go back and watch the show. You've already seen Narcos. I was like, pedro Pascal was a Narcos. That's crazy.
Bobby Bones
Did you go back and watch it?
Kevin
No, I just looked at the picture. So those would be the two that I'd recommend. What you and your wife's like, watching schedule, because I know you have five kids.
Bobby Bones
So it's really late at night as we get in, and finally all the kids go to bed. And it's usually around 10:30 as my wife's done her facial routine and all that stuff. And we finally get to sit down and watch a show for ourselves. It's. It's no daytime watching unless I get on the treadmill or something like that. But now with the kids out for school, they're around all the time, so.
Kevin
We'Re just always going, let's power rank the NFL teams going into 20.
Bobby Bones
26.
Kevin
Okay, it's 25, but they'll call it the 26 because that's when it ends. Let's power rank the NFL teams and we can go one to five or five to one. Are you going to go from Your brain. So you're going to go one to five then.
Bobby Bones
From your brain. One to five. From. From the brain.
Kevin
Okay, go ahead. You can do one through five.
Bobby Bones
Okay. I have to go with the Eagles as number one. I know they lost some defensive personnel, but Howie Roseman, he knows how to reload. And they still have A.J. brown, they've still got Smith, they've got Dallas Goddard coming back, and guess what? Saquon Barkley in there in Hertz. I mean, they've got the best offensive line. So to me, they're primed to go do it again.
Kevin
Number two.
Bobby Bones
Number two, I'm going to go. I'm a believer still in the Baltimore Ravens. Like, I just think they resigned Derek Henry, you've got Lamar Jackson. They got weapons both at the wide receiver and tight end position. I know that their defense, there's more to be desired last year, but they addressed it. And so I think that they're going to be better defensively, and they're just a difficult team to go up against because of the physicality and the way that they play offense. I think that Baltimore is going to be in a great position to battle for it. Again, number three, I really like the Buffalo Bills again. I mean, reigning MVP Josh Allen. I think the offensive line, all five starters are returning. They've got a good nucleus of players at the wide receiver position. And defensively, they drafted defensive help and brought in Bosa as well, Joey Bosa to help on the defensive end. I believe that they're going to compete again for a championship. So let's see, where am I going from here, guys? I mean, you got to put Kansas City in the mix. They just were in the Super Bowl. They've been in, what, four Super Bowls in the past six years or something like that. So I'm going to go Kansas City, firm believer in Patrick Mahomes. I think that they've put some investment into the offensive line. Defense kind of has been more of the biggest reason why they've been winning these last few years, because offense, they kind of fell down statistically. But just give it a year and give motivation to Patrick Mahomes, and I think that he'll be back in the mix. And the final one that I'm going with, I like Tampa Bay. How about Tampa Bay? Baker Mayfield, Chris Godwin's coming back. You get a Mecca. Buca, you got Mike Evans. Defensively, I like Todd Bowles and what he does defensively. And they're in a division which I think that they're going to be the Top dog in the division. How about that?
Kevin
Yeah, fine. Oh, that's fine.
Bobby Bones
Fine.
Kevin
I don't have the Ravens in my top five.
Bobby Bones
Typical.
Kevin
Why is that typical?
Bobby Bones
I don't know. Because you're probably going to put Dallas in your top five.
Kevin
I don't disrespect the Raven. I. They'd probably be at 6. And I like the Ravens, but I'll go number one mostly based off his recent pictures because golly, he looks jacked and he looks motivated secondarily because they just win. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. You don't think somebody is coming out of a single game, which was the Super Bowl. He was embarrassed. More motivated all off season than he's ever been his entire life and. Or Patrick Mahomes used to get. Ah, look at that, dad. Bodies. Dude. He is chiseled now.
Bobby Bones
I don't think I've seen the pictures.
Kevin
Crazy. He looks like a different dude.
Bobby Bones
Really?
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Just change his diet.
Kevin
I'm putting the Chiefs at one.
Bobby Bones
Chiefs at one.
Kevin
Which is not, it's not anything crazy to say.
Bobby Bones
Not far fetched.
Kevin
Yeah. And Eagles are two.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Kevin
Which is not anything crazy to say.
Bobby Bones
Nope.
Kevin
They just played each other Super Bowl. All good. I, I just, I, I don't bet against the Chiefs.
Bobby Bones
Ever. Yeah.
Kevin
Ever. The. And the Eagles have been in the super bowl, you know, twice in the past three years. So yeah. So yeah, it's hard to say.
Bobby Bones
It's hard to say that those teams are going to have a dramatic fall off.
Kevin
So there we go. So that's, that's one and two. Number three, the Lions. If Aiden Hutchinson and I watched this video of him running, cutting, doing the cone drills and it looks fine. And I think he was just trying to show. Hey, look, I'm kind of back. I don't think he was trying to show him all the way back because I don't think he's all the way back. I don't think he even thinks anybody thinks he's all the way back if he gets right. And I think had he been right.
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Kevin
In the postseason, I think the Lions season would have ended different. I'm not saying they would have won the Super Bowl. I'm not saying they would have beat the Eagles. But I do think that storybook has a different ending with that season last year.
Bobby Bones
Oh, well, they had how many starters, like 10 starters out on the defensive side of the ball. They were playing with a makeshift defense last year. Plug and play guys that they're bringing in off the street because of the amount of injuries that they sustained. The only issue I have sometimes with Detroit is you look at they lost both their coordinators. That's a big adjustment. But when you look at the offense side of the ball, they got their dudes coming back. And when you think about Gibbs and Montgomery, the way that they run the ball behind that offensive line, I mean, they're going to be really good. And Goff is playing at a really high level.
Kevin
Golf. Here's what's wrong with golf is that golf didn't. Although he did make a Super bowl with the Rams. Golf wasn't dynamic in Los Angeles. So now we just assumed Goff is just meh, fine, find a pretty good. But actually he's a really good quarterback.
Bobby Bones
And he's a perfect system fit for what they're trying to do with run the ball hard play action, push the ball down the field to Almond Run Omron, St. Brown. There you go. Williams, those guys, I mean. And he's accurate, right? He's accurate. Now he's not going to be the dynamic player outside with his athleticism, but that's not what they're asking him to do. They know their personality and their identity and they're going to go out and stick to that and he's perfect for that. For the Detroit Lions and number four.
Kevin
The Buffalo Bills, everything you said at number five, I didn't put the Ravens there. And the reason I put the Lions above the next two teams that are AFC teams is because I think the NFC is a little easier to come out of because the AFC is so stacked that I think the Lions have the edge in my ranking over the Bills and my number five team. But just simply because they're from the NFC and there are less teams to kind of weed through to get there where where you do have Baltimore, Kansas City, Buffalo, who's at 4 with me and the Bengals, who's at 5.
Bobby Bones
And you never know what Pittsburgh's going.
Kevin
To do once they're going to go 9 and 8. We do know what they're going to.
Bobby Bones
Have a winning record.
Kevin
Yeah, they're going to go nine and eight.
Bobby Bones
They're going to have a winning record.
Kevin
If they can get the Trey Hendrickson deal done. I have the Bengals at five.
Bobby Bones
I like that. So I mean, they got two absolute number one alphas on the outside. Joe Burrows is as good as it gets if their offensive line can protect him and do what they do. But Trey Hendrickson is going to be the most important aspect of that defense because he's the leader of that defense.
Kevin
He's the only one that actually plays defense. I think they have one guy, it's like 11 versus 1. And he's like the one that's got to beat all 11 to get back there.
Bobby Bones
And he usually does.
Kevin
And he does. Yes.
Bobby Bones
So let's sign that guy.
Kevin
Yeah. So that's my five. I think Baltimore's obviously arguably in that mix as well. But the AFC is so much harder to get out of the. They're stacked because of the quarterbacks.
Bobby Bones
I mean the quarterbacks and just the physicality that some of these conferences have, particularly the North. I mean, when you think about Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cincinnati. And who am I missing? That, that, that whole group right there, they just beat each other up. Kansas City, Kansas City's in the West.
Kevin
Oh, I thought you mentioned the afc.
Bobby Bones
Oh, well, yeah, just AFC in general for sure.
Kevin
I mean, quarterback play, afc, Mahomes, Allen Lamar, Joe Burrow. I mean those, you could argue those.
Bobby Bones
Are the top four quarterbacks, franchise quarterbacks.
Kevin
In the league right now in the NFL. So yeah. Let's go Lions, let's go. I didn't even entertain the Lions as my team because they've been good the last couple years. They've really traditionally been terrible forever. But I could, I feel like that would be a bandwagon or like I'm seeing a stock already go up and the stock could have already peaked.
Bobby Bones
Yes. But you also, you've got to love the personality of the head coach. Dan.
Kevin
Yeah. And what's weird to me about Dan Campbell, the weirdest thing about Dan Campbell is he's an offensive guy. He seems, he looks, he sounds like.
Bobby Bones
A defensive guy, just like an interior defensive line and just meathead. We're going to take your kneecaps off. We're going to eat your calves for lunch type guy. But he is an offensive minded dude.
Kevin
He has nothing about him that says I am an offensive guy. Yet. He's awesome.
Bobby Bones
But I think that's what makes him so intriguing because he's got that grit and he's rough around the edges. But he also, he's honest. Right. He tells it as it is and I love that about them.

That was not it. I'll read you down the list. I'm gonna skip the one football player.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Kevin
Number one. This is in one year. Ronaldo. 275 million bucks.
Bobby Bones
Oh, my gosh. Holler at me.
Kevin
Ronaldo, the 40 year old soccer icon tops the list for the third consecutive year. 275 million. Mostly that's because he went to Saudi and played for a club over there and they just paid him a whole bunch of extra money to come over there.
Bobby Bones
Not a bad idea.
Kevin
Number two. Oh, question. Who you think the highest, highest paid? And this is overall. This is endorsements. This is salary basketball. NBA. Because this is the number two person on the list overall.
Bobby Bones
It's not LeBron.
Kevin
And I will. If you're floating.
Bobby Bones
Steph Curry.
Kevin
What's your answer?
Bobby Bones
Steph Curry.
Kevin
156 million. Steph Curry. Nice job.
Bobby Bones
Boom. Thank you.
Kevin
The Golden State warriors became the first NBA player to reach 4000 career three pointers. He made 156 million bucks last year.
Bobby Bones
It's a good year.
Kevin
Number. Number three is a boxer.
Bobby Bones
A boxer. It's not Canelo.
Kevin
You do the game where you say what it's not, to see if you'll get a reaction. I will not give you a reaction because you've tried it twice now. I'm on to you.
Bobby Bones
You're on to me. You are you. So you can me out.
Kevin
It's not.
Bobby Bones
But too smart for me.
Kevin
Your little lure down there. And I'm. Here comes the fish. Not taking it.
Bobby Bones
Oh, who's. Who's the one? Boxer Tank. What's. What's his name? All right. I don't know who we'll go with.
Kevin
Canelo. That's the only one you said.
Bobby Bones
Okay, that's perfect.
Kevin
Incorrect. You're very wrong with Canelo. What a dumb answer.
Bobby Bones
It's so stupid. I was like, I need to get back into boxing.
Kevin
Tyson Fury, 146 million.
Brandon
Wow.
Kevin
He lost his heavyweight title, but not only did he fight, and what's funny about boxing is you don't win to make more money. You agree to the purse ahead of time.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
And you get paid whatever just to fight. The more value you're worth to get eyeballs on it.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
The more you're pay. That's what's crazy about boxing.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Because who do you fight this last year, that was a mega fight.
Kevin
The use guy, he lost the title to us. Yk, you sick. Usick. Okay, but also he had that fight over and over again. With the big dude.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, the. Not the UFC guy.
Kevin
No, no, no, no. Because Tyson Fury's big and pale and white.
Brandon
Deontay Wilder.
Kevin
Wilder's a humongous black dude. And those two, they fought like three. Three times, right?
Bobby Bones
Three times.
Kevin
Yeah. Those are awesome. Tyson Fury, number three, football player. Number four. We'll come back to it. At number five, another soccer player. You can get this one very easy. It's not Canelo. Right? Messi. Correct.
Bobby Bones
It's Messi.
Kevin
Messi. 135 million. At number six, another basketball player, LeBron. Correct. LeBron last year made $133 million.
Bobby Bones
That's a lot of money.
Kevin
At number seven, the first baseball player.
Bobby Bones
On the list, Ohtani.
Kevin
No, and I will say this about this baseball player. He shifted teams in the same city and signed a 15 year contract. Does that help at all?
Bobby Bones
No.
Kevin
Juan Soto.
Bobby Bones
Oh, he did sign a massive contract.
Kevin
15 years to get. You need that if you're gonna play for the Mets. You better give me a lot of money for a lot. A lot of money to leave the Yankees.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
I'm gonna tell you, this is a soccer player. I could give you 100 guesses and.
Bobby Bones
I'm not gonna get it.
Kevin
Nor would I.
Bobby Bones
Okay, good.
Kevin
So I say that. I say that respectfully. Karim Benzema.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah.
Kevin
You got his rookie card or what?
Bobby Bones
Got his Jersey at the house, bro.
Kevin
Number nine's another baseball player. You got it. Yeah. 102 million.
Bobby Bones
Number 10, Soto got more money than new contract. New contract money. Okay.
Kevin
And Ohtani last year played for the Dodgers. So it's like football. Right. It's like the year you sign and the length you sign for.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
So.
Bobby Bones
But also, you'd have to take in consideration, isn't Otani all over the world in terms of advertising, advertisement, and all that stuff?
Kevin
Yes.
Bobby Bones
You'd think that he'd make a lot more than one Soto.
Kevin
I also theorize, if I shall theorize with really limited knowledge, that they don't know all the money everybody makes.
Bobby Bones
True.
Kevin
So they're just assuming, or they're basing it on the money they know people make because they don't know if, like, people own restaurants or houses or flip, you know.
Bobby Bones
True.
Kevin
Number 10, the third basketball player. This is the final person on the list. Can you nail number 10? The only basketball player that is on the list other than Steph and LeBron, and he made $101.4 million. Name that basketball player.
Bobby Bones
101. Name that basketball. Name that basketball player.
Kevin
You want to say Canelo, don't you?
Bobby Bones
I so do right now. I don't know, Grant.
Kevin
Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Look at me. Look at me coming out of the Now.
Kevin
That was your throwaway answer. And you were. You wanted to say, but I nailed it. No, but you were like, I don't know, just. What is it? Then you went, Durant. I'm not even sure you said Durant. You might have just grunted. But yes, Kevin Durant made $101.4 million. The Suns forward rounded up the top 10 with $101.4 million. So now we're back to the football player at number four. So Tyson Fury made 146 million. At number three, Lionel Messi made 135 million. At number five, who is the only NFL player? It's not Patrick Mahomes. It's not Travis Kelsey. He's at number four on the list.
Bobby Bones
Jalen Hurts.
Kevin
Same division.
Bobby Bones
Dak Prescott.
Kevin
Correct.
Bobby Bones
Wow. Good for him.
Kevin
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback secured $137 million because his signing bonus.
Bobby Bones
New deal. Yep.
Kevin
So next year won't be near that because he won't have a signing bonus. Obviously, he's not signing a new contract. But because of his signing bonus and then his contract extension, obviously getting paid more of the 60 million or whatever.
Bobby Bones
Those numbers are absurd.
Kevin
Yeah, I was going to ask you about money because there are some similarities. To our jobs especially. And I'll just speak open and honest and a bit candid here, especially at the level that we've both done them. To do my job, there's a fraction of people that make enough to be comfortable. An even smaller fraction, enough to be wealthy.
Bobby Bones
True.
Kevin
At this point in my life, I'm in that fraction of a fraction. And it's pretty cool, not gonna lie to you. Especially growing up, how I grew up. It's awesome. My shelf life can be as long as I produce and stay ahead. But that's a lot of brain.
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Kevin
So I started probably making really good money. Like, my first years. I'll just kind of walk through it so I can get right in my head. My first years, I started as a teenager. I was making $6 an hour. My first contract I ever signed was for $23,000 a year, and that was when I was 21 years old. My first ever morning show contract when I thought I was rich was $50,000 a year in Austin. I was 23.
Bobby Bones
I started moving up the ladder quick, dude.
Kevin
I thought I was rich as crap. 50 grand a year. Like, I was like, I don't have to, like, look and see if I. How much I have that I can spend on groceries after Bill.
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Kevin
I started to really kill it about 13 years ago, before I moved here, because they paid me a lot to leave what I was. Because I owned my company. I built my own company, my own syndication company with my own money. And my shelf life can be 25 years, 30 years if I play it right. As an athlete, you generally don't have that even at the most elite level.
Bobby Bones
Right. That's finite.
Kevin
If you're getting paid a lot at times. You were getting paid a lot after. After your rookie deal was over. Like, let's say we went to Kansas City, signed your big deal. Like, do you. How does money affect you when you know it's not going to last? When there is? You don't know when it is, but you kind of know when that window's closing.
Bobby Bones
Right. Well, you got to have some kind of financial literacy, and they try to educate you. When you come into the league, they have all these different platforms and speakers come in, but at the same time, it's up to the individual and the person to understand. And they try to hit home to every player. Look, guys, this job that you. You do, if you're lucky, you know, five, 10 years, you're. You're considered a true veteran at that point. And hopefully you've put the. Put away some of your cash. But I was lucky enough to play 14 years. A lot of guys aren't that lucky. So you have to understand that there is an end game and you try to prepare for that. But when you're making that type of money, you also have to put the right people around you in terms of financial advisors and people that can help you along the way to understand the long game. Because, say, you don't make another dollar from this point on. You know, I've retired at 35, 36.
Kevin
Did you think about that when you're 31? Like, I'm gonna have to retire in the next few years just because of age?
Bobby Bones
Well, you just, you know that you're closer to the end than you are to the beginning. So when you get to year 10, 11, you start just kind of investigating different. Different things that you could do after you're done with football. And that that's the hard part. For every football player, you have to come to grips with that because you're used to competing, you're used to the scheduling, you're used to all those things and making damn good money. The checks, the checks, and they come in frequently and then all of a sudden that abruptly ends and they have all the different programs. It's the 401k and the annuity program and all those things that you've had throughout your career. But that's not going to have the longevity of what you just made over those 14 years. So you have to be smart and be able to calculate out. And then at the same time, for me, it was. I needed to go find something else to do because I couldn't just sit around. And I'm lucky and blessed that I'm around my kids while they're growing up a lot, while football season and college football, I'm traveling a little bit more, but still it's weekends versus being gone all week and working that nine to five and doing those things. So I've been pretty blessed in that sense.
Kevin
But did you worry about checks drying up, though? Like, what are you going to do when the checks don't come anymore?
Bobby Bones
I'm going to come talk to you. Obviously, I'm going to try to use my brain a little bit more, I.
Kevin
Guess, because I think that would freak me out.
Bobby Bones
It does every day. I mean, I think, think for every individual, especially when you're a father and you're a husband, you're taking care of a family and. And you're doing all those things, you look at that and worry about it. But you can't become so consumed by it. You just have to be smart with your money and understand where you're at. And at the same time, try to go out and make a living doing something different than what you did before.
Kevin
Did you feel, even though you didn't know it was the last few years of your playing career, that you were already putting in roots in other areas to work, meaning media or, you know, business, venture capital? I'm just saying words I don't know rich people use. I don't know. But did you start, like, thinking about other things that you could do once it ended?
Bobby Bones
You do to a certain extent. And at the same time, if you don't go in and have complete focus on what you're doing on the NFL, in the NFL, then you're not going to be there for long, even when you're a veteran quarterback. So you've got to put 100% in. But you start investigating because a lot of times people come to you while you're playing to invest in this, to put money in this, and everybody's got a great idea. And so then you start looking. Okay, more so from just an investor standpoint, what can I do to keep my mind occupied? Because it's one thing to stroke a check, it's another thing to have to prepare for something, to go out and work at it, try to get better, get good feedback, whether it's public speaking, whether it's doing a podcast, that's public speaking. So it's all these different things that are starting to come to the mind, but it's starting from coaching. Coaching. Coaching is another one. But you're starting from zero, right?
Kevin
You, a lot of people, kind of you, you do.
Bobby Bones
You have good connections.
Kevin
Former Pro bowl quarterback, freaking Matt Gazelle.
Bobby Bones
Right. But you also have people that have been in, if you wanted to go into finance, so to speak, or something like that. You have somebody that's been there since they were 22 grind away, and you're coming in, trying to learn just the lay of the land. And so you're kind of already behind in that sense. And so you got to play catch up. But again, it's another. It's another option for you to go out and work, work hard and find something that you're passionate about.
Kevin
Another bonus that I have in my contract is minor guaranteed deals. And now baseball and basketball have that. NFL doesn't.
Bobby Bones
That's why NFL's getting there, though.
Kevin
But you didn't have that.
Bobby Bones
No, we didn't have that luxury.
Kevin
So if you get Hurt. You break a freaking femur.
Bobby Bones
Right. And you're 32, you'll have an injury settlement and they'll say, thank you, but you can't help us anymore. In the next person will roll right up and take your position. That's just, you know, and the nature of the NFL for so long was as I said, they would give you those bonuses for year one or year two of a four to six year contract. But as soon as year three hit, it was at the discretion of the team whether or not they thought one, you could play, whether you fit in the salary cap and they could cut you for any reason. So that money that they talk about after year two, that really was just if you made the team. Whereas now you're seeing guys sign four year deals and really start with Kirk Cousins. I mean, he was the trailblazer for the NFL and getting that first guaranteed contract. And now you're starting to see guys get 100 million guaranteed. Kurt Cousins also just did that with Sean Watson.
Kevin
Best investment ever.
Bobby Bones
Best investment ever. Poor guy.
Kevin
Yeah, except not really except just the opposite of poor guy.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, you know, I just felt bad about the Achilles. That's. I was sticking to that.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
Some would say that's a karma Achilles.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. A lot of those fans thought that. Did you see that when he went down?
Kevin
I did see that, yeah.

Kevin
Do you think nil Money for these college kids is bad for rookie motivation.
Bobby Bones
No. Because if this is something that you want to do for a living, you got to be all in, like I said. And you have to be self motivated. You don't make it in the NFL unless you're self motivated. So you can make all the money for playing collegiate sports right now. But now you start as a rookie and you gotta go earn it. And I don't think it takes away from rookie motivation. I, I just think it's one of those, all these guys, if they've gone through the process, played in college and now they're at the level that they finally want to get to, this is their profession and in order to make it, they got to go out and grind.
Kevin
I think my presentation would be similar to yours where I think the answer is it does not hurt rookie motivation, but I think where it actually helps. Let's use Caleb Williams. Let's use, let's even go to the NBA like Cooper flag, according to sources now made about $23 million his freshman year at Duke and just nil.
Bobby Bones
He made 23 million. That's amazing.
Kevin
So what you can do though, as a scout or personnel of an NFL team, a lot of these kids come from very little and they are dumped into money as a first round draft pick. And it's almost like a homeschool kid going to a public school or to college. Because I had some friends who were that. And that's not all, but my friends that went to home school and went to college went freaking crazy when they got to college. For a year.
Bobby Bones
That's right, for a year, yes.
Kevin
And some of them never came back and some of them adjusted well. But there was a wild period.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
I think with these athletes that are 18, 19 years old that are making this money in college and they have that money, they're able to have that period of having money for the first time. And as personnel, you can see how they acted and reacted to money.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
And it will not be new to them once they are in the NFL. Heck, it's going to be less for a bit for sure.
Bobby Bones
And you're seeing these kids grow up so much earlier because these contracts are not just happening when they come in as a freshman. These are starting to get negotiated when they're 16, 17, 18 if you're a big time recruit. So they have to have more financial literacy than ever before. And they also have agents and all those things that go in. It used to be one of those when you get to a senior and you're finally draft eligible. That's when it all starts. And then you get some money when you come in as a rookie. Now they have money and they've had representation, and they understand just the entirety of how the process works. So they're a little bit more educated and smart in terms of how to use that money.
Kevin
And it's less new, so it's less something else. They have to learn while they're learning everything else.
Bobby Bones
Right. And they already got their Bentley, so that's.
Kevin
That's true.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. That's pretty cool.
Kevin
That's pretty cool. Okay. Three other things. I want to do my list. I always got to. I'm gonna do my. Bobby's big list. I made a list this week of NFL players that could have been dropped in any era, and they'd have still been awesome.
Bobby Bones
Great.
Kevin
I was talking earlier about how it's hard to compare players from the 50s to the 90s, from the 60s to the 2000s, because you really can only compare against who they played against. Because styles, because science, because education, knowledge was all different.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
So at number seven, regardless of what era he played in. Before I say that, I'll tell you who I did not put on the list. A. Patrick Mahomes. Because think a guy like Mahomes thrives because one, the offensive system he's in, the offensive coordinator that he has. And his style of ball that he played at Texas Tech, which is why he even played at Texas Tech.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
Like he needs. And had he played in, like the 60s, they would not have run under center. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Play action passed in the bay.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Just absolutely melee.
Kevin
Yes, Yes.
Bobby Bones
I agree. It's different errors.
Kevin
So at number seven, Calvin Johnson.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah.
Kevin
He just was such a specimen. 6, 5, 4, 3, speed Megatron. Even if they have one receiver in a leather helmet, you just throw it up to the guy.
Bobby Bones
It doesn't matter.
Kevin
Yes.
Bobby Bones
Or line him up in the backfield. I'm sure he'd run through Everybody in the 60s.
Kevin
He was phenomenal at number six. And I'm saying he could be dropped into today because this is an older player, Lawrence Taylor.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. He fits the mold of that hybrid outside linebacker. Defensive end can move him around. So versatile. But his. His first step in the violence that he played with. Oh, my gosh.
Kevin
Error proof is what I would.
Bobby Bones
Error proof.
Kevin
The thing he would have to adjust is not killing people, though, because he get flagged a lot at first.
Bobby Bones
Yes.
Kevin
Like, hey, stop taking their heads off, man.
Bobby Bones
Coach Belichick, that was his favorite player when he came in and spoke to us. He do the history lessons, they'd call it, basically. And he'd go and go from the wing tee and then how the modern offenses evolved over the years. But then he'd go back and show us old clips of people from when he coached with the Giants and. LT was his dude, he told the greatest story ever. One time he said they were getting ready for a game. It was like a walk through the day before. Lt is like running a little wheel route, messing around, sprains his ankle. They don't think he's going to be able to go. And it's a big game the next day. And I forget what game he talked about. Well, there's a horse track right there in the Meadowlands where they're playing. He went across supposedly this. The story goes that he got shot up with like a horse tranquilizer in his. In his ankle, comes out, has like six sacks, goes off, doesn't miss a snap. Lt's like, yeah, Coach, I'm ready to go. It was a phenomenal story.
Kevin
That's awesome.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
Number five, Rob Gronkowski. Now think about him. And I would drop him in depending on the era, in different places. So a tight end in the era he was in tight end now, but he also, 60s or 70s, would have been a massive linebacker, a defensive end, a defensive tackle. Like, I think Gronk could have played anywhere because of his size and athleticism. So I think Gronk is era proof, but I think he probably would have played different positions because that tied in position was much more of a blocker until the last 25 years.
Bobby Bones
Right. Which he's a heck of a blocker too. But like you said, he could line up on offensive line, he could line up on the defensive side of the ball. He was just that type of unique talent, especially because of how physical he was.
Kevin
Deion Sanders at 4, you take him, you put him now, he's still one of the greatest to ever do it.
Bobby Bones
True. He is like a Travis Hunter before Travis Hunter.
Kevin
Yeah. Untouchable. Number three, Trent Williams.
Bobby Bones
Oh, gosh, he's so good. I love watching that guy play. And you love having him on the offensive side of the ball because a lot of times you talk about those guys that are super gritty and, and tough and all those things and you talk about defensive lineman, but he's one of those guys that sets the tone for the offensive lineman like any young offensive lineman coming up. I'd watch Trent Williams because he plays the game in such a way that he is an Intimidating figure.
Kevin
When they drop Trent Williams stats, regardless of if it's micro or macro like career or year, it's like, Trent Williams, the guy lined up, hasn't even seen the quarterback since 1941. You're like, Dang, he hasn't even seen the quarterback.
Bobby Bones
That's awesome. Pretty good.
Kevin
Number two, Derek Henry.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I mean, Derek, could you imagine him back in the day?
Kevin
It wouldn't have mattered where. He'd have played both sides of the ball.
Bobby Bones
He would easily play both sides. He could play nose tackle back in.
Kevin
The day because he's so fast. And this is where I think he has the advantage over Gronk as being one of those you can put anywhere is he's just faster too. He's a massive guy, but he's also faster.
Bobby Bones
Oh, when he gets to open field, he's like a 22 mile per hour guy.
Kevin
Like in this.
Bobby Bones
Nobody catches him in the 70s.
Kevin
He could play defensive back. He could have played everything, people. Yes.
Bobby Bones
And he looks like a defensive end. I'm not, I'm not lying to you. He looks exactly like a defensive end at number one.
Kevin
Players you could drop in any era and they would still be freaking amazing. And I'm not going to ask you to guess mine because again, I made the list. But is there anybody you think of that comes to your mind where you're. I'm kind of putting you on the spot here. Where you go, man, it didn't matter what you. When you put them in 40s, 50s, 20, 25, they'd have been awesome.
Bobby Bones
Reggie White, good one. Reggie White was one of those guys.
Kevin
I loved watching athleticism, fast, strong.
Bobby Bones
Oh, just would club people.
Kevin
Yeah, that was good.
Bobby Bones
Absolutely. Club people.
Kevin
Mine is not Reggie. That's a great one I probably would have put on the list if I thought of him. Aaron Donald.
Bobby Bones
Aaron Donald. He was.
Kevin
Did you play against him?
Bobby Bones
We did and I did. And he is just an absolute harassment each and every snap because he would line up in different positions and you're trying to create double teams or slide the protection to him to get some help from the center and to give the guard. But because they would move him around and he was smaller in terms of just stature, but he was so strong and quick off the ball that it was a mismatch versus interior offensive linemen all the time. You have to give help to him which would free up other people.
Kevin
Yeah, he's like. This term is used in other, other ways and you know, not meaning in that way, but he's like an illegal alien. Meaning he should be illegal. And he plays like an alien because he's a little small.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
But he's so freaking. Let me find the perfect word. Substantial.
Bobby Bones
Ooh. He is a substantial human being.
Kevin
He's so. It's almost illegal how much he dominated or had to take sometimes double teams or the occasional double team with a chip. I would see that all the time.
Bobby Bones
If you're an offensive unit, you're coming in a game playing the LA Rams. You're sitting there and the first thing that you talk about is Aaron Donald. How do we block him? How are we going to handle them in the run game? We're going to try to run right at him. We're not going to try to run away from him because he's going to track you down from behind in the past game. How are we going to turn protection? Even though we know that they've got some other dudes out there, but this is the guy we have to block because wreaking havoc on the interior part of the offensive line. That's the biggest issue for quarterbacks because you feel that push in your face and that's what's so disruptive. If you can step up in the pocket, it's one thing, but when you feel that right now, it's really difficult to go out there and perform at.
Kevin
A high level with a guy like Aaron Donald, even though did you feel him, even if he wasn't close, because you always had to have an eye or an ear to know where he was coming from.
Bobby Bones
Well, you. You try not to chase ghost and you always know that that's the game record coming in. And so when you're dropping back, you're like, oh, is he coming? Is he not? But you just try to put that out of your mind and keep going. You. But like I said, we were always very cautious when we'd go up and turn protection opposite of him because we never wanted to leave him one on one. So you're always thinking about him.
Kevin
Yeah, I feel like that would be getting chased by ghosts. That's what I would be. I'd be running from a ghost. They're like, he's not even playing today. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. I'm out of here.
Bobby Bones
It doesn't matter.
Kevin
Okay, so here's what we have. Last week we said if you go to and Spotify was where you could put a comment under the podcast. And we said, right, Matt Castle is my daddy. And we would send somebody assigned Matt Castle jersey. And so I'm not going to tell you their screen name. I'm just going to read you some of these.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Kevin
And let me know which one you like and we'll send them. We'll.
Bobby Bones
Fantastic.
Kevin
We'll find them. I send him a jersey. I listen to this pot since day one. And although I'm from Germany and have little to no idea about most stuff they're talking about, well, besides football, I love it. Matt and Bobby pair up so well that I don't care what they're talking about. I just enjoy listening. Matt Castle is my daddy.
Bobby Bones
That's a strong one.
Kevin
Number two, this is a great show and you don't only have to be a football fan. Matt Castle is my daddy. Matt Castle is my daddy. Enjoy Payne's Valley this weekend, Bobby. It's a beautiful course. Oh, here's somebody. Knowing what's going on there.
Bobby Bones
Knew exactly what you're doing.
Kevin
I saw Matt and his wife at Bobby's million dollar show. Was so scared to say hi. They look like they were lost finding their seats, but stood out because they're both so tall and athletic and gorgeous humans. Next time, getting a pick. By the way, Matt Castle's my daddy.
Bobby Bones
They look lost. We were.
Kevin
That's what you were drawn to more than beautiful human specimens. If that's not the human. If that's not the most human thing ever. Because I will look at my comments and I will find the one that hates me so much. And there's like 700. They're saying nice things.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
But I'm drawn to the one that's like, his head is larger than the human head. And he. He's an industry plant because he's not that talented. It's funny that what didn't stick out to you to respond back to is that you and your wife are both gorgeous humans and really tall.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. I mean, just really, really nice comment all around. I really was lost when I walked into that place.
Kevin
Love the podcast. On the days where I'm commuting three hours, I wish you did more shows each week. At this point, I have to switch up. 25 whistles, the big show, and lots to say. Hope you top Travis and Jason soon. Matt Castle is my daddy. Matt Castle is my daddy. Never made a comment before on a podcast, but had to because that's funny. Matt Castle is my daddy. Chiefs fan for life. Matt Castle is my daddy. M I Z. Matt Castle is my daddy. Go Chiefs. Matt Castle is my daddy. Just like Bob Barker was Barney Stinson's daddy. You guys get the reference?
Bobby Bones
Yep.
Kevin
From how I met your mother. Kevin, did you not get it?
Brandon
No, I didn't.
Kevin
Okay. Matt Castle's my daddy. Matt Castle's my daddy. Matt Castle's my daddy. Matt Castle's my daddy. Woo. Pig. There's a lot of. Okay, so I didn't even ask you to, like, keep track, but of all those, where does your mind take you?
Bobby Bones
I mean, the first one was I've been a listener from day one in Germany. Love the show. And he also put Matt Castle's my daddy. It's pretty solid.
Kevin
Which one were you drawn to, Kevin?
Brandon
I love. Yeah. International. It's got to be Germany.
Kevin
Wow.
Bobby Bones
Right?
Kevin
NFL's trying to expand.
Brandon
Yeah.
Kevin
Okay, so if. If you're Luki L U K, I send Kevin a DM and we'll make sure it's you because we'll probably be able to tell. I don't know how we're going to tell. We're going to tell.
Bobby Bones
Packaging might cost a little bit more, but, you know, or it will just.
Kevin
Take longer to get there.
Bobby Bones
True.
Kevin
And we will. I'll have. Once we know, like, your name and stuff, we'll have Matt sign it to you and we'll mail it to you. And we appreciate you listening and Kevin, So just be on the lookout there and we will do one more round of this next week because I have two of those jerseys I was wearing every week to be funny. We have two of those. So we'll do one more. If you write Matt Castle.
Bobby Bones
What are you gonna say is the criminal enterprises.
Kevin
All right, all right, never mind. Let's do this. Then we'll. We'll fall back into the other one. How about you say Matt Castle is a gorgeous human? Really? Yeah, let's just do that.
Bobby Bones
You gotta do better than that.
Kevin
No, you know what? I was gonna do better than that, but then I felt guilty. So, as she wrote, we didn't give her the jersey this time, but she talked about how. How you and your wife and you both are very physically attractive and. And just dominant because you're both so tall and you both were elite athletes. So, yeah, you have everything going for. And. Yeah, that sucks. So anyway, been blessed. If you write Matt Castle is a gorgeous human, we'll pick another one next week down in the comments and we'll send him a jersey.
Bobby Bones
I appreciate that. Even if you don't think it.
Kevin
I. Well, here's the thing. I really think it's just been hard for me not to say it.
Bobby Bones
Oh, well, I appreciate. You know, that's just two. Two guy References today just. I'm totally into it.
Kevin
You're not as good looking as a guy from White Lotus, though. Don't worry.
Bobby Bones
No, don't. That dude, like, Danny's in shape.
Kevin
Yeah. Well, are you not in shape?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I feel in shape. For me, I feel like you're.
Kevin
You're pretty good.
Bobby Bones
My pants are a little tight, but.
Kevin
Other than that, I think that's what makes you in shape.
Bobby Bones
That's right, bro.
Kevin
That guy from White Lotus. Like, I was thinking to myself, man, I'm not into dudes, but I don't know, like, he's that good looking.
Brandon
Which season?
Kevin
Two.
Brandon
Okay, I didn't see.
Kevin
He was also in a show, I forget the name of it, on Netflix, where he was like some sort of investigator and he was like, trying to solve a crime.
Bobby Bones
That's a lot of.
Kevin
I know.
Bobby Bones
A lot of shows on Netflix.
Kevin
I know, but it's the same guy. It was good. It was really good, though. It was like the Unreachables or something. I don't know.
Brandon
I can look at DeMarco or. No. Do you know the name?
Kevin
I don't know.
Bobby Bones
I don't think. I don't think you do.
Kevin
I don't know the name. Who needs a name?
Bobby Bones
Doesn't need a name when he's.
Kevin
I don't need to, like, fall in.
Bobby Bones
Love with that type of face.
Kevin
No, it's not Adam DeMarco.
Brandon
Okay.
Kevin
I don't know what Adam DeMarco's from, but that ain't. Hey, trust me, that ain't him. I would know him if he showed me him. Let me look him up. Hold on.
Brandon
James.
Kevin
Lotus season Theo 2. Is that it? Who it is?
Brandon
I'm guessing.
Kevin
I mean, dude, here we go. It is. Oh, yeah, it's Theo James for sure.
Bobby Bones
Great name too.
Kevin
Yeah, the oj. That's a pretty good one. That can't be as weird. His real name, right, Chance?
Bobby Bones
His real name's Thor.
Brandon
Yeah, Thor.
Kevin
Or it's like Wilbur Gonzalvanich and he had to change it to be cooler because he's so good looking. Let me see what he's done here and I'll tell you the other show that was really good. Theo James. He has been in such thing. Maybe we can get Theo James on the show. Hey, reach out to the NFL, but don't say that. I'm like in love with him.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, honestly, don't let him hear this podcast that he's researching where he lives and where he's at.
Kevin
The show is on Netflix. It got an 8 out of 10 stars on IMDb it's called the Gentleman. It's really great.
Bobby Bones
The Gentleman.
Kevin
Gentlemen. Yeah, Me and the Gentleman. It's. It's fantastic.
Brandon
Oh, I saw that, dude.
Kevin
Isn't it good?
Brandon
Yeah, that's. Yeah. Really, really good.
Kevin
Yeah. Did you consider Theo James?
Brandon
Kinda, yeah.
Kevin
Exactly. Exactly. When we left last week. And we'll end on this. I invited my friend Matt here to go on a golf trip. We just went for a day, 24 hours. And we went over to. We stayed at. So the owner of Bass Pro Shops, Johnny Morris, has so much in this area of Missouri near Branson. That's what. That's his hometown. So he like wants it to be amazing. Like his legacy is this area. And so he has this place called Big Cedar Lodge. It's just part of what he owns. Which, by the way, they just built an arena, like an amphitheater arena. Rolling Stones just played there.
Bobby Bones
Really?
Kevin
Yes. And then they. Yeah. Yes. And then they stayed at Big Cedar Lodge for like five days on vacation.
Bobby Bones
That's a pretty big deal.
Kevin
The Rolling Stones. That's crazy.
Bobby Bones
They came from Europe.
Kevin
Is that Mick Jagger playing mini golf? I don't even know if they have mini golf, but yes. So they play there. I think Garth opened it up.
Bobby Bones
Wow.
Kevin
So he has made this town culturally relevant to all of America. But sometimes it is so hidden because it is in the middle. It's right in the middle of Missouri.
Bobby Bones
Is it hard to get there?
Kevin
No, it's very easy to get there. It's like near Springfield.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Kevin
So we flew from here about 45 minute flight. Pretty easy. We get there 24 hours, we stay in a cabin that was so sick it's on my Instagram. Mr. Bobby Bones. And there were four of us. Me, brother in law, father in law Eddie, the four that played Brandon and went. And Brandon shot a bunch of content. And they have this course called Payne's Valley. And I've been lucky enough to play pebble beach. Like Pebble Beach Pro Am and Spyglass and a lot of these courses that I probably have no right to play. It's.
Bobby Bones
It's that it's easily comparable.
Kevin
It's that the only thing pebble beach has is the history of watching on television.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
For like the fame and it's right on the. But I'm telling you, this paint. They have four or five courses there. Some of them have PGA tournaments.
Bobby Bones
They got four or five courses at this one spot.
Kevin
Immaculate. I'm talking about if you're a golfer, this is where you want to go. And some people don't know about it. And they didn't pay me, by the way, because it was such a last minute thing. I was like, right, I just want.
Bobby Bones
To come and play.
Kevin
We went to Paines Valley and played, and it was a plus. So then after they say, hey, we're building this place called Cliffhangers. It's a par three. The whole course is a par three. It's not done, but you can play the 11 holes that are finished, and.
Bobby Bones
We'Ve got to be an 18, par 3.
Kevin
It might be the most fun golf experience I've ever had.
Bobby Bones
Really? Why?
Kevin
Because, first of all, it's an. It's a plus as far as the niceness of the course.
Bobby Bones
Right.
Kevin
But it's so. It is premiere, right?
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
We actually play 13 holes. They open two of the holes for the very first time ever for us.
Bobby Bones
You have to be the first ones to play them.
Kevin
Two different holes.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
There's one. You're in a cave and there's water coming down, and you have to hit it through the water onto the. Come on. Oh, through the water, over the water, on the green. It is crazy. It opens in like.
Bobby Bones
How'd you do?
Kevin
A few months on that one. Good. I don't remember. We played a whole tournament. I won the whole tournament because there are only four of us.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
But I think I shot. The greens, though, are difficult because the greens are. They're. Some. Some of them are shelved.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. Like three really difficult.
Kevin
And they're not doing, like, really hard greens. They're doing obnoxiously hard parts of the greens that are, like, hilarious that you like.
Bobby Bones
It's just ridiculous unless you really know what you're doing.
Kevin
Even if you have a caddy. No, not on the par three, because it's. There's.
Bobby Bones
No, no, that was the part three. Okay.
Kevin
We didn't take caddy for either one.
Bobby Bones
Either one. Okay.
Kevin
When Cliffhangers is done, and it only took us like an hour and 15 minutes to play that, because it's a part. It. The course is a plus. Nice. Like any course I've ever been on, but it's all par threes, island greens, every. Dude, I'm telling you, it was the best 24 hour golf experience I've ever had. We would have stayed three or four days if we could have.
Bobby Bones
I'm glad that you guys had so much fun.
Kevin
And I was like.
Bobby Bones
I was in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Yes.
Kevin
That's okay.
Bobby Bones
That's okay. No, no, it was much. It was much better Than what you experienced.
Kevin
It was a plus. And it's hard for me to be impressed because I'm very jaded at this point where people will call and be like, come and do this. Hoping I talk about it. They did not call me. I called and was like, it was all me, like, begging.
Bobby Bones
That's incredible.
Kevin
It was awesome. We'll go back up sometime. I definitely don't want to hit him back up. Be like, can we come up again in three weeks? Is it okay if we can bring my friend Matt?
Bobby Bones
I remember Matt.
Kevin
Matt wants to play. Matt didn't get to play.
Bobby Bones
Have you seen my golf ball?
Kevin
But maybe on like a weekday or something, we go up there. Yes, dude, I'm telling you, it.
Bobby Bones
It.
Kevin
I don't know what to say. It was like the best golf experience I've ever had in my life.
Bobby Bones
Sounds like you really did felt it. You felt every part of that course and I didn't.
Kevin
And I'm not like a great golfer. I'm a 12.
Bobby Bones
But still just the experience itself.
Kevin
Absolutely.
Bobby Bones
Plus, it had to be cool to have brother in law, father in law there. How are they at golfing?
Kevin
Brother in law is a little better than I am.
Bobby Bones
Him. Oh, that pisses you off?
Kevin
I beat him in the par three tournament, though. He beat me in the par four. I beat him in the par three, but par four was a little more valuable.
Bobby Bones
I would say par four is a little bit more valuable.
Kevin
So he was. He's a little bit better than I am, but he probably plays a little bit more than me. Yeah, he's more of a natural athlete than I am too. So I think if we played the exact amount, he'd still be a little better than me.
Bobby Bones
Are you just saying that?
Kevin
No. Because he's a college baseball player. No, I. I would out grind him. I'd outwork him. Like, if I was focused, I'd outwork him and take him.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Kevin
And it hurts for me to say he's a little better than me. Like, it. Right? It really hurts.
Bobby Bones
I was shocked. I thought he'd be like, yeah, look, if I just played a little bit more, hit a few more walls.
Kevin
But I do think that's true. I do think that's true. But I don't think right now I'm better than him.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Right now.
Kevin
So as irrational and disillusioned as I can be at times in my own confidence or in my. In my own abilities, because I think I have to be irrational about what I can do or I'll never be able to do it.
Bobby Bones
It.
Kevin
I still am a tick lower than he is.
Bobby Bones
But you're there. You're close.
Kevin
If I put a little work into it, I take him.
Bobby Bones
See, that's. That's where I was getting to.
Kevin
It was a plus. Maybe we'll do it again. Maybe I hit him up. I would hate to ask on a weekend again anytime soon.
Bobby Bones
No, that would be difficult because.
Kevin
Because I know they kind of, you know, pulled some strings.
Bobby Bones
Were you guys the first group out?
Kevin
They offered that to us because we had a drone.
Bobby Bones
Oh.
Kevin
And we flew a drone. We shot footage on the drone.
Bobby Bones
How the drone go?
Kevin
Well, terrible until. I know. Excellent. Until Brandon crashed into the water. He crashed into the river.
Bobby Bones
How did you crash?
Kevin
The drone battery died.
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. Okay. So it wasn't your fault.
Kevin
I. Well, yeah, it was his fault. He didn't. It was. It was. It's my drone. He. We had never used it before.
Bobby Bones
Is this the one that you bought to go get the drones up here? That you're gonna attack the drones? Yes. Yes.
Kevin
And by the way, they don't. They don't show up anymore.
Bobby Bones
I haven't seen one near your house either. No.
Kevin
So, yeah, all of a sudden, I'm swinging, and I see Brandon doing this real artsy shot of it floating back and forth, and I'm like, I guess Brandon's got some idea of how to shoot this really cool. And then all of a sudden, right in the right of the river, it just had lost battery power.
Bobby Bones
Did you go fish it out? Oh, that's so good.
Kevin
Everybody. Thank you for listening. We hope you had as much fun as we did. Kickoff. Kevin is back. He's got two babies now.
Bobby Bones
Welcome back, bro. Thanks.
Brandon
Boy, it's good to be back.
Kevin
Is it good to be back? Is it hard to leave in the morning?
Brandon
Yeah, for sure. Like, yeah.
Kevin
Is it hard to leave because, you know, there's so much to do in your wife? It's like, please stay and help, or because you literally just like, I don't want to leave the kids.
Brandon
I don't want to leave the kids.
Kevin
That's good.
Brandon
Yeah. And then I always have answer a few hours in. Hey, how you doing?
Kevin
You good? You good?
Brandon
You good?
Kevin
Yeah.
Brandon
So it's hard to leave them, but I give him a nice kiss on the head, and it's like, all right, I'll see you guys later on.
Kevin
Thanks. Kick off Kevin. Thanks to Brandon Ray doing excellent work here. And with the drone, boy, did we learn a lot. Crushing, boy, did we learn a lot.
Bobby Bones
Check that battery pack.
