Lots to say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle is a production of the NFL and iHeart podcast.
Intro/Outro Singer
We got lots to say we got lots to say we're glad you're here and we hope you stay. Cause we got lots to say yeah, we got lots of to say now here's Bobby and Matt.
Kevin
Hey, everybody.
Bobby Bones
Welcome to the show. So the second half of the show we've already recorded, we thought it was going to be the beginning of the show where we talk about extreme sports and cheese rolling down hills and skydiving. And as we're finishing it, we were like, we'll put this to the back. So just know that's the second half of the show. Probably better than what we're about to do now, but Matt Castle, good to see you, buddy.
Matt Castle
Great to see you as well as always.
Bobby Bones
Okay, let's do quarterback counseling. Are you ready? You're going to be.
Matt Castle
Quarterback counseling coming to you. Okay, here we go.
Bobby Bones
A rookie quarterback gets drafted to a team where the fans hate the pick. What do you tell that quarterback?
Matt Castle
What do you tell that quarterback? Well, at the end of the day, fans are going to have opinions if they've played in college football, which that's how you normally get to the NFL. You've probably had your adversities, your ups and downs. It's all about blocking out the noise. You didn't get to where you are today and get drafted that high. Knowing that you got to take everybody's opinion as the gold standard so you have an opportunity to prove it. I mean, one of my mentors, Ken o' Brien from UC Davis was drafted before Dan Marino in that legendary draft class back in, what was it, 82 and the jets fans hated him. But he went on to be a Pro bowl quarterback. He still is all time leader in, I think, touchdowns, yards, all that. He was an outstanding pro and went toe to toe with Dan Marino in the same division, all that stuff. They hated the draft pick, but at the end of the day, it's still about going out there and playing and playing well. And then the fans, you'll change that perception really quickly. So it doesn't matter what the fans think. At the end of the day, you still have a job to do.
Bobby Bones
I would also say in sports and in art, everybody's fickle. Just produce, that's it. People don't even remember what they didn't like.
Matt Castle
That's 100%. Coach Belichick always used to tell us, he says, look, you want to know what's best for you, your family, your kids, just do your job. You do your job, you go out there, perform. It takes care of everything. If we win, then nobody's going to be saying this, that or the other, or you'll have more people on your side versus we go out there and lose a bunch of games. Everybody's going to be talking. They all have the anecdote to why, why we're losing and what we need to do differently and who we need to bring in. But if you win, it takes care of everything.
Bobby Bones
Question number two. Your kid is mad because they got benched in a youth sports game. What do you say in the car ride home?
Matt Castle
That's always a tough one, because as a parent, you want to protect your kids from those type of feelings. At the same time, I just tell them, look, sports is a game of failure. You're going to have good days, you're going to have bad days. All I care about is the effort that you, you put out there and how you control your own emotions. Meaning, are you one of those kids that after a bad play in the field or something, you're walking off the field and your head's hanging down? No. You can control your attitude, you can control your effort. And if you do that consistently, then more good things are going to happen and you're going to be better days. But you've got to be able to deal with some of the adversities and at the same time, failing sometimes is a huge strength for a young kid to learn how to deal with it in, in their own way.
Bobby Bones
A starting quarterback, there's three picks and still has to go out and face the media. What's the veteran move you take?
Matt Castle
I've been there a lot. Yeah, that one's always one where you just have to put on your big boy pants and go out there and take responsibility. And there's been plenty of times where you'd love to sit there and say, hey, well, the guy was supposed to have a 16 yard comeback. He cut it short by three yards. That threw the timing off, that gave the cornerback and time to undercut the route. No, you can't say that. You say, look, I got to do a better job. I've got to be able to get the ball out on time. I'm a big firm believer as a quarterback. The more that you put on yourself and don't throw people under a bus, the more your teammates respect you. And that's what it's about is the camaraderie in the locker room. The minute you start pointing fingers and saying it's because of him, him and him, and it's not my fault, then you lose the locker room. And as a leader, as a quarterback, you. That's part of your responsibility.
Bobby Bones
Final question. A dad at a youth game is yelling too much from the sideline? Do you say something or do you let it go?
Matt Castle
I had a situation like that come up a few weeks ago when my daughter, she's in second grade, all girl flag football team, is playing the first grade boys. And the opposing coach was out of his mind through throwing his hat down, threw his glasses, broke his glasses, did it again, yelling at his kids. And there was every fiber of me wanted to go up and just lay into this dude and tell him, you need to calm down. But I felt like that would scare my girls, so I let it go. But you could hear the chirping from some of the parents on the side, like, you need to calm down this, that and the other. So I let it go. If, if they're saying offensive things to my kid, other kids, then I will step in and say something. But if, on the other hand, if. If it's just this guy being obnoxious, everybody recognizes it. And usually I'll let it go because it's not worth the conflict.
Bobby Bones
All right, that's my first segment. What do you have over there?
Matt Castle
All right, I've got a segment called Bobby versus the Playbook or Concept. So your knowledge generally of verbiage words in the NFL, that's going to be terrible. All right, go ahead. Okay, okay, here we go. What is a mesh concept?
Bobby Bones
It's two Crosses. I mean, yes.
Matt Castle
Money.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. It's like if I'm running meshes, I'm sending two receivers, probably the slot and maybe the X across.
Matt Castle
He's on it. Nailed it. Ding, ding, ding. What about an odd floater defensive terminal?
Bobby Bones
That's if I've had pizza. And after I use the I take a look back after I'm done in the bathroom. Sometimes I'll have an odd floater. I'm going to assume an odd floater means in someone who is not in a cover. Cover two, cover three, cover whatever it is. And he's literally playing a spy type. This could be wrong. A spy type defensive back.
Matt Castle
It was. That is not it. But I do like where your head was at. An odd floater actually means one of the down defensive linemen stand up at the linebacker position, walk around.
Bobby Bones
Oh, so it is kind of a like an I got like a spy ish type person.
Matt Castle
It's somewhat of a spyish.
Bobby Bones
I don't get credit for that one.
Matt Castle
Okay, can you tell me the difference between nickel and D defense?
Bobby Bones
Oh, yeah. It's just a linebacker. You're going to put a linebacker into more defensive backs are playing dime nickel. You're going to have like a hybrid linebacker, secondary type guy.
Matt Castle
I will accept that answer. Yes, 100%. A nickel is when they substitute one DBN for a linebacker. Dime means there's two DBs in substituted for the linebacker positions.
Bobby Bones
I may not have said that right. You guys feel I got that one right?
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Matt Castle
I feel. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
All right. All right. How many more you got?
Matt Castle
Do you know what to Tampa is?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, Tampa too, is what we call it.
Matt Castle
Yeah, Tampa too.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. I mean, mostly just from Madden. And if I'm calling Tampa too, and I know it's a zone, I mean, like, I know what are the.
Matt Castle
What are the safeties just. Is it.
Bobby Bones
We're splitting into. We're doing cover two.
Matt Castle
Yeah, we're. We're doing cover two or they are splitting into two. Yeah, I'll take that.
Bobby Bones
What do you think?
Matt Castle
No, that's. That's. It is a zone concept. Yeah, it is. Two high safeties with the mic being responsible for the vertical down the middle of the field. I wouldn't have got them.
Bobby Bones
I wouldn't have got the middle linebacker responsible for the. For the go. But I. I've just called so many Tampa twos when. If I'm leading in Madden in third or fourth quarter and I'm just trying to keep from. If I'm up by more than one possession, I'm Running like Tampa, too.
Matt Castle
This is really in the weeds. It refers to the defensive side of the ball in the front. And it's a stunt. Do you know what a DT stunt is? Or a TT stunt is? ET stunt or TT stunt.
Bobby Bones
So no DT stunt.
Matt Castle
No DT stunt.
Bobby Bones
So ET I would assume the T. Does T mean tackle? Yes, because I know what a stunt is on the defensive line if they're crossing. But I don't know what the ET and the tt. So maybe it would be the.
Matt Castle
Well, I guess you could say DT being defensive tackle, end and then the tackle. Those two are stunting. TT2 defensive tackles are stunning. So, yes, I would say, overall, dude, you crushed the concepts and the terms here.
Bobby Bones
I can't give myself credit on that one. I know what a stunt is. I didn't know E or T. I
Matt Castle
still give you credit for the odd flutter because the joke was all time. I thought you nailed it.
Bobby Bones
All right.
Matt Castle
Yeah, nailed it.
Bobby Bones
We'll take that. Whenever you guys were playing in, the schedule was going to come out and it's like, hey, schedule announce. Did that ma. Like, what did you look for?
Matt Castle
Honestly, for me, every time the schedule came out, it was like, what's our opening game? Because it was exciting and it kind of really started to focus in on what your schedule is going to look like. So. But the first game of the year, it's always gives you that kind of. You get fired up, like, okay, football's right around the corner and this is our first opponent. So you, because you know your opponents throughout the off season, like, you know who. Who's going to be on your schedule. You just don't know what your schedule is going to look like. But is it going to be at home against the San Diego Chargers in Arrowhead? I mean, that pretty much fires you up because we had one of those where it was, I think it was the opening game, like a Monday night football game. San Diego Chiefs at Arrowh. And you know, it was going to be a divisional game. It's going to be rock. And so you look forward to just that first game, I'd say. And then you start to filter through that schedule.
Bobby Bones
By the time people hear this, they may have already announced the schedule because this comes out on Wednesdays. They announced on Thursday. Right. That's the full schedule release.
Matt Castle
Full schedule release.
Bobby Bones
So it'll be released Thursday night and the regular season will start again on a Wednesday. Game 1, the Seahawks will play. They won the Super Bowl. It says an unnamed opponent. Any guess, like, it's probably not going to Be the Patriots again, is it?
Matt Castle
Very.
Bobby Bones
Well, they've done that before.
Matt Castle
They have. And that would be a huge draw for.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, because. I mean, mostly because. Frable.
Kevin
You want to hear their home opponents for this year?
Bobby Bones
Seattle. Yeah.
Matt Castle
Yeah.
Kevin
So they play the Patriots, Bears, Chargers, Chiefs, Giants, Cowboys, Niners, Rams and Cardinals.
Bobby Bones
So it's going to be one of those teams. Yeah, because they've already.
Kevin
Because they've already announced who they're playing away and home.
Matt Castle
It's probably the Patriots. Because the rams play the 49ers on Thursday.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, it's probably the Patriots. And we could be wrong. The season is starting midweek to accommodate the first regular season game in Australia. The Rams will play the 49ers.
Matt Castle
Dude, I can't believe they're going to Australia to play this first game. That's insane.
Bobby Bones
That's so far.
Matt Castle
That's like a 14 hour flight, isn't it?
Bobby Bones
It's brutal. I've done it. It's brutal. It's that in Japan are the worst flights I've ever been on. Because they're so long.
Matt Castle
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
To. To do something physical right after. Because I mean, you're not getting off the plane and playing. But even two days.
Matt Castle
Yeah. And what's the time change there?
Bobby Bones
Extreme. Like it's extreme, right?
Kevin
Yeah. 14 hours.
Matt Castle
14 hours. It's brilliant. I wonder what. When they're going to leave to go to that game.
Bobby Bones
They left yesterday.
Kevin
It's 17 hours ahead of California, which. Where the Niners are from, obviously.
Bobby Bones
Wow.
Kevin
The whole day.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. So they're both from California.
Matt Castle
Yeah, they are both.
Bobby Bones
You said from the Niners.
Matt Castle
The Rams are also from California. They're the Los Angeles Rams.
Bobby Bones
Oh, I thought it was St. Louis and those. They're California teams going to Australia because it is a little shorter. Because that's the way you get there. You don't go east coast to Australia.
Matt Castle
Yeah, it'd have to be west coast.
Bobby Bones
You go west coast.
Matt Castle
Australia, west coast teams.
Bobby Bones
I'd say the NFL will play nine international games.
Matt Castle
That's crazy. Four continents, seven countries.
Bobby Bones
Why do you say that's crazy?
Matt Castle
It's just crazy, the expansion. Because we used to do like the London trip. That was always something that was very popular. And then they started just expanding like to Rio and to Mexico and Germany. And now you're just. Where it's at now from an international platform and stage is drastically different from when we played.
Bobby Bones
Of our three sports, I'm talking about America. That's the one that doesn't really translate in other countries. So they're doing a great job at trying, right? Because baseball ob massive all over basketball worldwide, for sure. That's why all the best basketball players aren't even American anymore, right? But, yeah, football, man, they're hitting it hard. Would you. I don't know. Like, I think I could use that as a, a reason to get my wife to go. Like, if I was like, hey, you want to go to Rio or do you want to go to Paris?
Matt Castle
Like, go to an actual game.
Bobby Bones
And then we go and we get there and I'm like, oh, yeah, there's an NFL game.
Matt Castle
That would be a fun fan experience.
Bobby Bones
Like, I think that's how I could get her to go to an to that is go like, hey, it's in Paris. We'll go and do Paris things for a day and a half. Because we weren't gonna go to Paris, but we'll go to Paris and then I want to go to the game. Yeah.
Matt Castle
Or she'd be like, I want to do Paris for five days and then I'll go to the game.
Bobby Bones
You haven't been to Paris?
Matt Castle
No, it's awesome. That's what my wife said. She's been, she's been all over Europe.
Bobby Bones
I have not, I'm sure, every single time.
Matt Castle
I'm not a world traveler.
Bobby Bones
I mean, you were so dedicated to your football. Yeah.
Matt Castle
So dedicated. So dedicated that I just never wanted to leave the country.

Bobby Bones
All right, what else you got?
Matt Castle
You missed the Sunday night football matchup. Did New York Giants debut against the Cowboys. That should be actually.
Bobby Bones
That's in New York too, right? I'm pretty sure that game's in New York.
Matt Castle
I think so.
Bobby Bones
Because I think the Cowboys are at home. Week two, I would assume, because week three is when they go to Rio, and I don't think they're going to play them on the road. Week 2 Before they go to Rio, if my speculation is correct.
Kevin
At home. Yep. In New York. Yeah.
Matt Castle
In New York.
Bobby Bones
Kevin has the 10 most followed current NFL players on Instagram. I don't know how many. I don't know who they are. So this is my page, so you can see. I just knew he had it. I can't see who they are. So I'm like, there's no cheating here.
Matt Castle
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Do you want to go back and forth to see how many we can name?
Matt Castle
Sure.
Bobby Bones
Kelsey, are you going to go first?
Kevin
I'm starting.
Bobby Bones
Fair enough. Go ahead.
Kevin
So three strikes. You guys get three strikes and you're out.
Bobby Bones
Yep.
Matt Castle
Right. Okay.
Kevin
So, Kelsey. Yes. He is on there.
Matt Castle
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Well, you just slid that one. Just jumped in first, huh?
Matt Castle
Well, I thought. That's a good point. Sorry about that.
Bobby Bones
Joe Burrow.
Kevin
Joe Burrow is on there? Yep.
Bobby Bones
What number?
Kevin
He is five. Kelsey was two, by the way, these
Bobby Bones
are all current players.
Kevin
They are current. One was not on a team last year, I will say that. But he has not retired or anything.
Matt Castle
Let's go with Stefan Diggs.
Bobby Bones
No, I don't know.
Kevin
Stefan Diggs is not on it. There's one from bat.
Bobby Bones
Okay. He didn't play last year. He's not on a team. It's going to really be hard to not pick Ryan Tannehill, but I'm not
Matt Castle
going to guess it's a good poll, too.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to go with. Aaron Rodgers. Is there any just general interest in Aaron Rodgers?
Kevin
He is not.
Bobby Bones
Okay. I don't follow him.
Matt Castle
Does he even have social media?
Bobby Bones
Good point.
Matt Castle
I mean, he seems like the type of guy that wouldn't care that much to have social media.
Bobby Bones
We DM him through smoke signals.
Kevin
He does have social media. Okay.
Matt Castle
All right. I'm gonna go with Christian McCaffrey.
Kevin
McCaffrey is number eight.
Bobby Bones
Dang. Good job. Okay, I'm gonna go with. And this is. This. I'm gonna. I don't know if I should guess this. Because this is not a great answer because I'm basing it on something that has nothing to do with football. I'm gonna go with Madison Beer's boyfriend
Kevin
who is.
Bobby Bones
You know, it is Club of the Chargers.
Kevin
Oh, I'm.
Bobby Bones
Oh, Herbert. Justin Herbert.
Kevin
Yeah, I heard the name, but I couldn't remember who her boyfriend Herbert is. Not on.
Matt Castle
Golly.
Bobby Bones
I just picked her because it's Madison Beer's boyfriend.
Kevin
That is a good. Yeah, good logic.
Matt Castle
Josh Allen.
Kevin
Josh Allen. Not on there.
Matt Castle
Really?
Kevin
Yes. Two strikes each.
Bobby Bones
Okay. It's gotta be Patrick Mahomes. Just cause he's the guy, it's gotta. Patrick Mahomes has gotta be on there. Cause he's a dude.
Kevin
Patrick Mahomes is number three.
Bobby Bones
Boom.
Matt Castle
It's up to you.
Bobby Bones
If you miss this, you lose. Because if I miss that, I lost.
Matt Castle
Okay, social media darlings, what numbers we
Bobby Bones
have off the list?
Kevin
2, 3, 5 and 8 are gone.
Matt Castle
Let's go with Lamar Jackson.
Kevin
Lamar Jackson is number six. Wow. Yeah, he is up there.
Matt Castle
Wow.
Bobby Bones
Good one. Good one.
Kevin
Okay, so we've got 10, nine, seven, four and one.
Bobby Bones
The fact that we can't get one is crazy. The most followed NFL player. I got to get this to stay in the mix here.
Matt Castle
Well, you think he's competitive?
Kevin
A little bit.
Bobby Bones
The problem is I, I. The rookies that made a lot of noise. I just can't jump on one of those dudes like Jackson Dart Although definitely has aura. I don't think has a bunch of followers.
Kevin
Thinking deep here.
Bobby Bones
Does anybody else with a celebrity in the NFL? Tony Romo was with Jessica Simpson for a bit. Remember that?
Matt Castle
Yeah, I do.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
He's all over espn and somebody's not on a team and they're like, hey, you're not even on a team, but may have you. Okay, I'm going to go with Dak Prescott.
Kevin
Dak Prescott just makes a list at number 10, that's gone. Did you get there with the Tony Romo? Just Cowboys.
Bobby Bones
Just. Yeah, like Cowboys. Merrick's team. Let me pick out the.
Matt Castle
There's part of me that wants to go receiver here. Then I've got.
Kevin
You've got four on the board still. Number one, number four, number seven, number nine.
Matt Castle
Let's go with Miles Garrett.
Kevin
Miles Garrett is not on the list. Our winner.
Matt Castle
But doesn't he have to steal?
Bobby Bones
But you went first on your own accord. You just jumped in there.
Kevin
Yeah, it's kind of your own fault there. Set yourself up.
Bobby Bones
I would go, here's who else I was thinking through because I was just going per position like who is the best? And so I had both Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson on my list of people to consider because they're the best receivers.
Matt Castle
That's what I was. You.
Bobby Bones
That's what you.
Matt Castle
I was thinking, remember I said wide
Bobby Bones
receiver, but I don't know that they would have massive followings. But that again, that's still. I. I don't know who the. The person is not on a team. Is it the person? A quarterback. That's not a team?
Kevin
No.
Bobby Bones
Oh, okay.
Kevin
Do you want me to tell you? Position.
Bobby Bones
We'll probably nail it if you do that. Offense or defense?
Kevin
Offense. He is, and I will say he is more than double. Travis Kelsey at number two. More than followers.
Matt Castle
Double.
Bobby Bones
Is he famous for something other than football?
Kevin
No.
Bobby Bones
Offensive player.
Matt Castle
What position?
Bobby Bones
Gotta be a receiver. It's not a quarterback. It's gotta be receiver.
Kevin
It's a receiver. Was not on a team last year.
Bobby Bones
Oh,
Kevin
one hand.
Matt Castle
One hand. There you go.
Kevin
Obj.
Matt Castle
Yeah, yeah. Was Justin Jefferson on there?
Kevin
No. Or Jamar Chase?
Bobby Bones
Really?
Kevin
No. There were a couple other receivers though.
Bobby Bones
Who else on the list?
Kevin
No. Another USC guy though. Juju.
Matt Castle
Juju.
Kevin
He's a big social media guy.
Bobby Bones
He would like dance and stuff. Yeah, yeah. What else?
Kevin
And Tyreek Perry. Kill. And there's one more quarterback. Mary to Sierra Wilson.
Matt Castle
Should have known that.
Bobby Bones
That's a good one.
Matt Castle
That's pretty good too.
Bobby Bones
That's a good one too. All right. Do you have anything else you want to do?
Matt Castle
This is more like have fun.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Give me have fun. All right, let's end on and have fun.
Matt Castle
All right, Here you go. What's harder is this segment. Okay. Surviving Bear Grylls or surviving a full night with a newborn.
Bobby Bones
Oh, Bear Grylls. Because my wife really comes in strong with the newborn.
Matt Castle
Yeah, you're kind of by yourself out
Bobby Bones
there in the mountains. Bear Grylls are pretty hard. So the wife kind of rocks the newborn.
Matt Castle
All right. What's harder hosting live TV with cameras on you or live radio when you have to fill time with no script?
Bobby Bones
Oh, tv. I can do radio. I could do a seven hour show right this second. The world is on fire. And if you don't talk for seven hours, it'd be compelling. It's going to explode.
Matt Castle
Go.
Bobby Bones
And I'd be fine. World's safe.
Matt Castle
Yeah. Proven on this episode of our podcast.
Bobby Bones
The world is safe. The world is safe. You see, Jeremiah Love's not going to spend his money.
Matt Castle
What do you mean? He's not going to spend his money.
Bobby Bones
He's just going to use his nil money. His NFL money. He's just going to put away.
Matt Castle
That's got to be nice. It's going to be nice. Good for him.
Bobby Bones
You know what? I'll hit him back in three years and check in and see if he's still doing it. But sounds like he's like got a good head on shoulders.
Matt Castle
Oh, I've got an opportunity to meet him because we were covering them obviously with NBC last year and what an incredible person and somebody that is mature beyond his years and very focused.
Bobby Bones
He's.
Matt Castle
He's special.
Bobby Bones
Jay Leno did that. He never spent his money from the Tonight Show. He only spent his money from touring. So he made all these millions. Never spent any of it. Saved it up. Wow. Which is pretty wild.
Matt Castle
Is it the same that you do?
Bobby Bones
No, I spent it all. No, no. I've got a baby now. So we could. Coming in. We buy a lot of diapers. Needed to come in.
Matt Castle
That's right.
Bobby Bones
The other thing that I was going to mention before we break into the second half of the show, which was the first part of the show. It's a weird story.
Matt Castle
Was,
Bobby Bones
man, I had a good one, too. Oh. Jeremiah Love may end up spending a lot more money than he thinks. He may be the first player to actually buy out of his own contract. You're right. The Titans are going to have to do something.
Matt Castle
Yeah. And I. Like I said, I can't imagine that they're not better this year. They had. They brought in 17 free agents, did well in the draft. Brought in Carnell Tate, another wide receiver. That's going to be a guy that demands coverage that will open up space for everybody else. Get the run game going a little bit. Robert Saw will get that defense going. It'll be. I think they're going to be super competitive.
Bobby Bones
I don't. But if they just show that they're going to be competitive the next year, that's good. Like, just give me a little.
Matt Castle
You've got to build. Anytime a new head coach comes in, you're resetting a culture and starting over. And everybody's got to understand the new standard that's being set. It takes some time. But once you set that foundation now you're building towards something and that's what you want to see. You want to see this organization building towards something in the near future.
Bobby Bones
All right. That's it. You're going to break, boys, and we'll come back and do the other part of the show that we already did. And you'll see why we didn't put this at the beginning. All right. There you go.
Intro/Outro Singer
We got lots to say? We got lots to say? We're glad you're here and we hope you stay? Cause we got lots to say? Yeah, we got lots of to say. Now here's Bobby and Matt, everybody.
Bobby Bones
Welcome to this week's show. Here's Bobby and Matt. I'm Bobby, that's Matt. Hey, what's up, buddy?
Matt Castle
Bobby, how are you?
Bobby Bones
I didn't know that you had seen Devil Wears Prada one.
Matt Castle
I did. It was a long time ago. I used to be a big. I guess I still am to a certain degree, Anne Hathaway fan.
Bobby Bones
You ever see Princess Diaries?
Matt Castle
Yes, of course I saw Princess Diaries.
Bobby Bones
I haven't. I'm not judging you.
Matt Castle
You haven't seen either one, but you
Bobby Bones
have kids that are older, so you may have watched it with your daughters, I'm assuming.
Matt Castle
No, I watch my wife, Devil Wears Prada, Princess Diaries. Don't know when I watched that, but it was a long time ago.
Bobby Bones
Thought you were going to say alone. He's like, yeah, I watched it alone.
Matt Castle
Watch that one alone in a dark room.
Bobby Bones
I have not seen it. My wife and I were talking the other night. She said, hey, let's watch Devil Wears Product two. And then she goes, well, we'll have to wait till it comes out to streaming because we have an eight week old. So we're not going to theater.
Matt Castle
You're not going to the theater? No.
Bobby Bones
And I said, I can't watch two. I've never seen one. And she said, you've never seen one? And then you just said that you saw one but you liked it.
Matt Castle
I did like it. It's good show.
Bobby Bones
Have you always seen one?
Kevin
Nope.
Matt Castle
You haven't seen it? Oh, you guys watch.
Bobby Bones
Well, I like it.
Matt Castle
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I don't mind chick movies.
Matt Castle
You'll like it.
Bobby Bones
I think.
Matt Castle
You really like it. Yeah, it's got a. It's great cast, good storyline and a little bit of drama. I mean, love interests. All the different things that you get in the like, kind of rom com. I guess it would be. The Meryl Streep is just she's well,
Bobby Bones
fun fact that I just told you a minute ago.
Matt Castle
Yeah, tell the fans.
Bobby Bones
The fans.
Matt Castle
Tell the fans.
Bobby Bones
The Anne Hathaway character is my wife's friend.
Matt Castle
It's amazing. So I did not know that this story was based on A true story.
Bobby Bones
A story about my wife's friend.
Matt Castle
About your wife's friend and how long have they known each other? Forever.
Bobby Bones
I really should have followed up with her about this because she's talked about it a couple times. She's never said, hey, guess what? But something would come up with Devil Wears Prada, and she'd be like, yeah, that's so and so, my friend. That's wild. But again, I never thought much about it because I'd never seen the movie.
Matt Castle
Did she get any kickbacks for the success of the movie?
Bobby Bones
Her friend? Yeah, I don't know. My wife's stories are wild because. Just a little background on my wife. She grew up in a small town in Oklahoma. She graduated and went to Oklahoma Baptist. And from that, she graduated college and was like, all right, I'm out. I'm gonna do oil and gas commodity trading. So she. So where do you go when you do that? You go to Texas. You go to Houston, Right? So she goes there, moves up in her company big time. She's making a ton of money. She's doing international commodity sales and trading oil and gas. Right. And so she's like, I don't know. This is very fulfilling for me. I'm gonna go to grad school. After she'd already been in the workforce
Matt Castle
for four or five years, she went into the workforce and then went back to grad.
Bobby Bones
Yes. And so she says, I'm out. And her company's like, you can do it remotely. Don't leave. So she goes to Cal, you know, uc. Gosh, I knew stuff. I wish. I wish I knew stuff. I wish I knew stuff. And I'm not even going to text her and be like, what college you get your master's from?
Matt Castle
Cal Lutheran.
Bobby Bones
Cal. It's a cow. It's one of the cows. So she moved to Los Angeles for one reason. Her brother lived out there, and her brother had just had their first baby. And she goes, I can get in to Cal, and I'll go to get my master's. And I guess I'll still work because they want me to stay working. So she's doing all of that. She's getting her master's. She graduates number one in her master's class.
Matt Castle
She's wicked smart.
Bobby Bones
No, I'm telling you, it's wild.
Matt Castle
Is that where you guys met?
Bobby Bones
It's so annoying. Yes.
Matt Castle
Okay.
Bobby Bones
So she graduates number one in her class, and she moves out here. She's still. That's what she's doing. Even when she moves out here, she's doing international commodities. And she's like, up at 2am talking to folks in India. And I'm like, you just moved out here, Covid hit. Like, I made plenty of money. You can figure out what you want to do after we got to get married. And so she's like, all right. It's very tough for her because, like, she worked hard and she was making a killing financially. Like, she was for, like, a single.
Matt Castle
If anything ever goes south for you, honey, right back. I'm right back to work. You're on the commodities.
Bobby Bones
Just intimidating. And so she does that and. But I don't know. And I didn't ask enough questions about, like.
Matt Castle
Yeah, it's. It's a crazy connection because she obviously. The woman's an author and she wrote the book and it's based on her. And Hathaway's character is.
Bobby Bones
Yes, my wife's friend.
Kevin
Does Brandon know all this?
Bobby Bones
No, I think I just told him five minutes ago. But my point is, I'm not going to text her and ask her.
Matt Castle
I was like, you know all this.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to text her and ask.
Matt Castle
I think he talks to your wife more than you do because he knows the whole background. Common knowledge, I guess. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Everybody knows it's my wife.
Matt Castle
Everybody. And then you don't even know.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I mean, I can text her. I hate doing this because she's like, you never listen to what I say. And my point.
Matt Castle
Oh, yeah, don't get in trouble when
Bobby Bones
she went to grad school. It's one of those cows, but I should know that.
Matt Castle
Yeah, but you. You know what? You gave a great history of her right there, so I'm pretty proud of you for knowing.
Bobby Bones
And not only that, I know there's a lot of stuff because we had, like, a stalker issue that got really bad and the FBI had to get involved, so she is out of the public eye.
Matt Castle
But you. You were getting stalked or. She was getting stalked.
Bobby Bones
She. We. Oh, it's really bad. It's really bad.
Matt Castle
Let's get into that. Well, let's write a movie on it. No, that's not.
Bobby Bones
I've tried. Really? My wife's like, we're not. We're not doing it.
Matt Castle
That's scary.
Bobby Bones
It was awful.
Matt Castle
But did he get arrested or.
Bobby Bones
She got saying nothing.
Matt Castle
I'm sorry. I didn't. By the way.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, he works. He works here now.
Matt Castle
It's Brandon. Brandon knows all the details.
Bobby Bones
So, like, people don't even know. My wife does now because she's like, I don't want. I Don't want anything to be said that's scary, because she was kind of dunked into this, meaning she met me, and it's like, okay, join along what he has built as far as, like, the public life. And it was kind of big where she didn't get to grow in it. Where I was, like, doing small market, medium market, small tv, small. And so I got to, like, slowly get used to it.
Matt Castle
Right.
Bobby Bones
Where she was, like, dunk. Like, we moved houses because people were, like, driving down, taking pictures in our house.
Matt Castle
It's gonna be so overwhelming for somebody that didn't grow up in the public eye that.
Bobby Bones
Or grow in it at all. Yeah, because I didn't grow up in it, but I, like, I had my whole young adult life growing into it.
Matt Castle
Right.
Bobby Bones
And for her, it was like, hey, this dude. And you know what tricked her was we started dating pre Covid for a while, but then Covid hit, and she came over here and was like, hey, you'll come for a couple weeks. Because we didn't live together or anything. Covid be over in two weeks. And she was in California, so they were already shutting it down over there.
Matt Castle
Oh, yeah. Beaches were shut down. Face masks, couldn't recognize anybody.
Bobby Bones
So she was gonna move over here for just a couple weeks. And obviously Covid lasted a lot longer. But she thought, oh, this. This is kind of normal. Like, nobody's messing with them. Like, there aren't people. He's not touring. Yeah, she got a real dose.
Matt Castle
Tell her the story about when the guy tried to chase you down and kill you in the parking lot.
Bobby Bones
I wasn't having to go in way early in the morning because working from home. Because of COVID Yeah. She was like, man, this life's pretty good. And then as soon as the restrictions were off, I was, like, gone. People are crazy. People are driving by the house, taking pictures. People are stalking her.
Matt Castle
I gotta go to this thing and this thing, and we're gonna be in this state, and you have to be there.
Bobby Bones
I kind of sold her a bill of goods.
Kevin
Yeah, it worked.
Matt Castle
Yeah, it worked. It worked. Look at you now. She's got a baby, too.
Bobby Bones
I'm gonna say we have a baby.
Matt Castle
You guys have a baby?
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Let me see. Hold on, hold on. I'm gonna text her.
Matt Castle
Text her, find out.
Bobby Bones
I'm going to. Maybe she went to, like, Cal State. Cal.
Matt Castle
Yeah. Keep going. All the cows. Cal State Fullerton.
Bobby Bones
I know it's bad. There's just so many of those schools.
Matt Castle
Yeah, there's a lot of cows in la, though? Yes. In la. Cal.
Bobby Bones
Is there a Cal State la? Hello? Right. No, it's.
Kevin
It's a cow.
Matt Castle
In Los Angeles?
Kevin
I'll say la. Yeah. There is.
Bobby Bones
No, it's not that one. I was just kidding. I was just saying that.
Matt Castle
Where's Cal Lutheran? Okay. I love that. We're just fully going through all the cows.
Kevin
Yeah, I know.
Bobby Bones
I don't know. You know what school I drove by, though, when we were out in California a couple times ago was Pepperdine. That's not even a school.
Matt Castle
I know. It's up on that mountain looking over the Pacific. It is, absolutely.
Bobby Bones
That's a luxury vacation for four years. Looking over the beach, I couldn't believe that was a school.
Matt Castle
Unbelievable. And the campus is gorgeous and everything about it. It's, like, remote. It's out there in Malibu. Right in the heart of, like, the most affluent area in Malibu. You go down the street and there's 15, $20 million homes right on the beach. It's crazy.
Bobby Bones
I couldn't believe it. My wife's like, yeah, that's Pepperdine. And I was like, the college.
Matt Castle
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
And they don't have football team.
Matt Castle
They don't.
Bobby Bones
But they crush in, like, sand volleyball.
Matt Castle
Yeah, sand volleyball. Volleyball. They have all the other sports. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Because Kevin lived in la, too, for a long time.
Kevin
Yeah. LA for a couple years was Southern California most of my life, so.
Matt Castle
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Well, similar Southern California to me is la.
Kevin
Okay.
Bobby Bones
As someone who never lived there.
Kevin
That's fair.
Matt Castle
That's fair.
Bobby Bones
I was only there for a few months.
Matt Castle
Yeah, but you throw in Orange county and all that SoCal. San Diego.
Bobby Bones
Oh, I don't consider San Diego Southern California.
Kevin
Consider it Mexico.
Matt Castle
Oh, it's 100% Southern California.
Bobby Bones
I consider that. Really? Southern California. Yeah.
Matt Castle
That's the valid Southern as you get in California.
Kevin
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
San Diego.
Matt Castle
Walk over to Tijuana, you get to the beach. Communities in la, like Manhattan beach and Hermosas and Redondo's, and it's got kind of the same feel. I feel like San Diego is more of a sleepy, beachy town. Like, it's got a different vibe to it.
Bobby Bones
You Spencer Pravor, mayor type guy?
Matt Castle
Huh? Say that again.
Bobby Bones
Are you keeping up with the LA mayoral race?
Matt Castle
No, not at all.
Bobby Bones
Okay.
Kevin
You haven't seen anything. I'm Spencer.
Matt Castle
No.
Kevin
Interesting.
Bobby Bones
Do you know who Spencer Pratt is?
Matt Castle
Yes, he's the actor, Right?
Bobby Bones
No, you're thinking of Chris Pratt.
Matt Castle
Yep. There you go.
Bobby Bones
This is what I love about you. And I'm serious. And I do, because I'm not In
Matt Castle
the politic world of LA right now, it's not politics. What is it? You said he's running for mayor.
Bobby Bones
He is, but he's from Kristen Cavallari, Laguna Beach.
Matt Castle
Oh, I heard about this guy. Yeah, yeah. And he started. It was all about the fires and all that stuff, and he went crazy because their house burnt down or something.
Bobby Bones
I just wondered if you were, like, keeping up.
Matt Castle
No, I'm not keeping up with him, but I did hear he's making a big push.
Bobby Bones
I think according to the prediction markets, he might slightly be in the lead now.
Matt Castle
Wow. Pretty wild. So how would you run? Because you said that you had interest in politics.
Bobby Bones
It's so crazy. I talked about this this morning on the show. There's been a couple stories that I was running coming. I'm not running for anything. And I'll say it. It's only the second time I've said this.
Matt Castle
And where would you run in what city would you want?
Bobby Bones
I'd run in our. So the true. This is a football show, but what the heck's going on?
Matt Castle
What's going on? It's OTAs.
Bobby Bones
So five years ago, six years ago, at this point, I grew up in Arkansas. I've always thought, hey, I should go back and find a way that from the inside I can help. Because I do try to help a lot from the outside, especially with things like food insecurity, because that meant a lot to me when people would help us eat. Got it. So that and education, because if you don't have an education, you don't have a shot in life if you come from a poor area, none. That's the only way to get out of poverty. So that is very much my priority. So I was recruited about five or six years ago. My years are going to be a little off to run for governor of Arkansas. Wow. And so they knew Sarah Sanders, who's the governor now, was going to run, and they were like, we need someone to run against her. Who is someone that has a name that people will know and someone that has a story. Now, for me, I've never been in politics, but got a great story. I came up hard and I'm extremely educated in how not just politics work, but state legislature. Like, I studied that for the I may run one day. And so I said, I don't know if I want to do this, but I'll listen. And so we went and we bought a house in central Arkansas just for that reason, in case I decided to run. I had a house. I've already lived There long enough that I can go back and run. I lived there seven years, consecutive. Heck, I lived there 20. I grew up my whole life there. So I had enough equity in the state to run. I had the state tattooed on my arm. Like, nobody looks at me.
Matt Castle
Nobody else has the state tattoo.
Bobby Bones
Nobody thinks I'm not Arkansas first because my wife just said, like, hey, if you ever want to run, why don't you run to Tennessee? And I'm like, I hear you, and I'd like to help, but for. It's all blood. Arkansas for me.
Matt Castle
How would she feel about you running?
Bobby Bones
None. Hates it. Like, the worst.
Matt Castle
Doesn't like the idea.
Bobby Bones
The worst. So I think about it, and so what happened is I wanted to know about everything that was ever in any file that I had ever done. If people were going to research me and. And have some.
Matt Castle
Your skeletons in the closet, for sure. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You have to hire two people to research me. One that knew I was hiring them, one that didn't. That thought they were being hired by somebody.
Matt Castle
Oh, to actually crush you.
Bobby Bones
To find out. So they both came back with the same results. I have nothing.
Matt Castle
Oh, so you're already winning.
Bobby Bones
I have nothing that I haven't already said myself. There are things people could use against me, meaning Juan. He doesn't have a background in politics. Or there have been. People take personal shots at my upbringing. Drug addicted mom who died of an overdose. Dad left, like, no stability. People take shots of that all the time, which is weird because I'm not ashamed of it.
Matt Castle
And it smoldered you into the person. The adversity that you had to go through as youth.
Bobby Bones
Which is the only reason I would run. Right. So anyway, all this happens. The story comes out yesterday, two days ago. He's considering running again. I'm not. You're not? No. No interest.
Matt Castle
I would love to call you Governor.
Bobby Bones
No, I'm not running for governor anyway.
Matt Castle
Governor Bones, I'll refer to you. Would you still be able to do the podcast?
Bobby Bones
Probably, yeah, probably. There are no rules against podcasts. There are rules against getting on broadcast because it's owned by its government.
Matt Castle
Oh, okay. So that would be. That would throw a little wrench into it.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. But I'm not running. I have no interest in running. I think a lot of people now I'm gonna do 45 more seconds. I'm done on this. I think people now that want to get into politics, for the most part, they're looking for a way to have some sort of notoriety or fame. I don't need that not that I'm some wildly famous dude, but I get my itch.
Matt Castle
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Doing my stuff scratches it, so. And I work with a lot of places that I don't talk about, give places money. I try to help best I can, and I think that's more than what I could do if I were in office. And I don't want the toxicity of it, honestly. And my wife doesn't either.
Matt Castle
Okay, so he's not running, guys.
Bobby Bones
No, I'm not running at all. It's so funny because I talked about that this morning for the first time ever, and you brought it up today. Look at that. How about that?
Kevin
Is that the school Pepperdine?
Bobby Bones
No. Is she that Devil Wears Prada girl now?
Matt Castle
Are we going to text her and see where she went to college? No, we're not.
Bobby Bones
Nobody listening. I swear to God. Do not DM my wife. And be like, Bobby was confused on where you went to college. I know people will.
Matt Castle
No, it was. But you beautifully represented her as smart.
Bobby Bones
I'm not even going to say more. I'm not even going to say what she's doing now. She has her own business now. And not only that, not only did she go back and get her master's, she did it again.
Matt Castle
She got a double master's.
Bobby Bones
That's all I'm gonna say a different. I'm giving out too much information.
Matt Castle
I thought her name was.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so if her name. Then there are BFFs.
Matt Castle
Was she at your wedding?
Bobby Bones
Dude, I don't know.
Matt Castle
You don't even know if she was.
Bobby Bones
I haven't even seen a movie. Like, you told me.
Matt Castle
It was like a closed thing. Everybody had to turn their phones. Like, you should know your guest list. Don't just tell me Luke Bryant was there and all these people was there.
Bobby Bones
I don't know.
Matt Castle
Okay.
Bobby Bones
But sometimes my wife will go like, hey, so and so was at our wedding, and it was from her side.
Matt Castle
Yeah. Yeah. That's sometimes tough. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Okay. Somebody you played on your. Your travel softball team with. I don't know who that is. So there's a somebody who did some interviews of people, and that's how the book happened. Oh, okay. How you doing, by the way?
Matt Castle
I'm doing great.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Matt Castle
Great. My daughter turned 16 yesterday.
Bobby Bones
Is that crazy?
Matt Castle
It's crazy when you get to 16. I mean, she can drive. Well, she. She will be able to drive. We set her her driving test after finals, which are next week, because she needed a little bit more time and figured she could concentrate a little bit more on the test itself. So. But 16 is a big year. It's crazy. She's gonna be a junior next year. It's two years left and then she's off to college. And you think that the day is coming, but it just gets closer and closer. It's wild.
Bobby Bones
Do you remember when she was a baby, like yesterday?
Matt Castle
Like yesterday. I remember being in the room when my wife gave birth. I remember her coming out and saying, it's a girl. Because we never found out with any of our kids whether we were having a boy or a girl was crazy. One of life's great surprises. But yeah, just being our firstborn too and being 16 was unreal. And then, plus, Mother's Day was the day before, and that's basically marked the day that my, my wife became a mother for the last 16 years and four, four more after her. So it's pretty, pretty fun weekend. We did have a baseball tournament, though. A Mother's Day one day baseball tournament.
Bobby Bones
I have a feeling it wasn't called the Mother's Day baseball tournament.
Matt Castle
It was.
Bobby Bones
It really was.
Matt Castle
I think it was.
Bobby Bones
Oh, wow.
Matt Castle
And we had four games and we were delayed. Our last game started, the championship game started at 9 o' clock at night for 10U, by the way. 10U baseball. It wasn't very successful outing for our team. We lost 18 to 4. But we gave great effort. We battled through adversity. And I got home at 12. Pretty, pretty special weekend. Pretty special weekend.
Bobby Bones
We had a good one. It's just the baby's so young. There's really not much we can do. No, I try to just say take a couple hours and then about 45 minutes to it. She's like, I'll just come hang out with you guys.
Matt Castle
Yeah, we did brunch. We cleaned the house. She went to a movie with a few girlfriends from the night before that said, hey, you want to go see Devil Wears Prada too? Okay.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Matt Castle
Boom. And then she came home. I picked up some steaks. Barbecued, grilled out. Whatever you say in the South. I always say barbecue. Do you say grilled out? Grill.
Bobby Bones
I would say grilled, yeah.
Matt Castle
Yeah. And barbecued some steaks. And it was fantastic. And that was our Mother's Day.
Bobby Bones
The reason. Cause steaks aren't barbecue.
Matt Castle
No, they're not at all. And I always say that for some reason. It's a West coast thing, I think.
Bobby Bones
Did you guys grill out in the west coast at all?
Matt Castle
Yeah, all the time.
Bobby Bones
Oh, you did?
Matt Castle
Oh, yeah, it was great.
Bobby Bones
Like shrimps on Barbies and stuff.
Matt Castle
No, no, no. No, the basic.
Bobby Bones
Dig a hole in the sand.
Matt Castle
Yeah. No, no, no. I wasn't at the beach. I was in the Valley, dude. So just like we do here. You got a grill. Throw some stuff on there. Rock and roll.
Bobby Bones
Is the Valley like redneck California? Redneck Los Angeles, I should say.
Matt Castle
Yes, Redneck Los Angeles. That would probably be descriptive of it,
Bobby Bones
because I've been to redneck California. I actually enjoy redneck California, which is Bakersfield, Sacramento.
Matt Castle
No, that's real red.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, that's like real life. That's like how I grew up. You go up there like, oh, this is like. This feels comfortable.
Matt Castle
They got the French basks out there. You go and get, like, cow tongue for, like, appetizers and everything. It's different. That's not that redneck, but it's got a little redneck. It's very culturally diverse in the Valley. Various sections of different diversities and ethnicities and stuff like that. So it's pretty. Pretty interesting place to grow up.
Bobby Bones
Have you guys seen Project El Mary on movie yet?
Kevin
No.
Bobby Bones
I mean, I read the book and so I kept waiting, and then my wife got super pregnant, and then we didn't go. It's the Ryan Gosling. He's physicist. Are you familiar with it at all?
Matt Castle
Nope.
Bobby Bones
Okay, good. He's a physicist. It's made, like, a billion dollars. It's based off a book. And then he goes up, try to save the world.
Matt Castle
Nope.
Bobby Bones
Then he meets an alien.
Matt Castle
He meets an alien? No, but it sounds interesting.
Bobby Bones
True story based on true story.
Matt Castle
Yeah, true story for sure.
Bobby Bones
It's made a ton of money, and I was surprised that in the previews, they would show that he meets the alien, because that's a big part of the book that you don't know is coming. And then all of a sudden, like, halfway in, you're like, oh. Oh, my God, there's an alien.
Matt Castle
He really met an alien. So he befriended an alien or he just met an alien.
Bobby Bones
I'm just gonna say met, because I don't know what?
Matt Castle
You haven't seen what?
Bobby Bones
No, again, I read it, but I'm just surprised they even put that in the trailer because that was a big part of the book. Yeah, it's out. You can buy it now.
Matt Castle
Oh, well, then I'm gonna go watch it. Tell me again what it's called. Project what?
Bobby Bones
Hail Mary.
Matt Castle
Project Hail Mary.
Bobby Bones
And apparently it's super good for the kids, too.
Matt Castle
Okay, well, then that's even better.
Bobby Bones
I think they'll all like it. The book was awesome.
Matt Castle
Books are usually better than the movies.
Bobby Bones
Do you know why?
Matt Castle
More detail.
Bobby Bones
Absolutely.
Matt Castle
Imagination.
Bobby Bones
More detail, and you spend more time with it. So if you're actually going to read a book for me, I'm not a super fast reader. I read pretty fast. But it may take me a week to read a book. I spent a week thinking about it, living with it.
Matt Castle
Oh, yeah.
Bobby Bones
And so a movie. I spent a couple hours. Even if the movie's fantastic, I've spent
Matt Castle
a week invested in order to read a book. And my wife can rip through a book and like, three days.
Bobby Bones
That's crazy.
Matt Castle
It takes me, like, two weeks to get through a book, even if I'm really interested in. Just because I don't have a ton of time to read.
Bobby Bones
Dang, you're so busy. What's that like?
Matt Castle
Yeah, it's not that busy. Honestly. It's retired life. It's retired life from the NFL. I'm not that busy. I just am a real slow reader.
Bobby Bones
Would you want to go to the Cowboys game in Rio?
Matt Castle
No. Maybe. I don't know.
Bobby Bones
I'm not asking you to go with me.
Matt Castle
Are you? I was going to say. Is that like an invite? Are we going. Are we going to the Cowboys game in Rio?
Bobby Bones
Eddie is my friend that, you know, he's a huge Cowboys fan, and we were talking about it, and he was like, I don't know. I think Kevin even said, rather go to a World cup game, though, didn't you?
Kevin
If it's in Brazil.
Bobby Bones
Oh, see, I'd rather go to NFL game because I know nothing about soccer.
Matt Castle
Yeah, but I heard that experience, the World cup experience alone, just with all the fan. And the fanfare is unbelievable. The energy.
Bobby Bones
I've heard the same thing about fighting. And.
Matt Castle
And I would go see that, too.
Bobby Bones
Okay. But I don't care about the experience
Matt Castle
running with the Bulls.
Bobby Bones
Like, would you ever run? You know? Yes, I would. Here's what I would do. No. And you said, yes, I wouldn't. But here's what I do. Okay. They're going to release the Bulls. I'd be at the very front of the group. So there's a whole group that when they release the Bulls, that takes off running. I'd be at the very front of the group. Not at the back closest to the Bulls. I'd have you with a phone, and I would go, like, take pictures as soon as they open the gate. And so you take like 15 pictures in a row, and I jump up on the gate. I never got near the Bulls, but I just ran with the Bulls.
Matt Castle
And then somebody knocked you over, and you're the one that they get the pictures of getting just whammy.
Bobby Bones
No one's knocking me over because I'm getting off there. So I'm not running with any bull.
Matt Castle
I don't have any. Actually, now that I think about running with the bull seems just insane to me.
Bobby Bones
Have you ever seen the cheese hill?
Matt Castle
Is that the one?
Bobby Bones
Pull it out, boys.
Matt Castle
Let me see the cheese hill, please.
Bobby Bones
So this is very similar to running with the bulls. They've been doing it for hundreds of years.
Matt Castle
Is this the one where they run flat down like this, the hill?
Bobby Bones
They chase the cheese and they go.
Kevin
Yes.
Matt Castle
And they're somersaulting down, just concussed, broken arms, everything.
Bobby Bones
Have you seen the documentary on this?
Matt Castle
No, I just. But I did see a clip of it, and I saw these guys, and they are running, like, so fast, and that hill looks like it is straight down.
Bobby Bones
And they do this for generations. And you catch the cheese and you're the winner for the year or whatever. What's the official name of this, Kevin? It's because it's in England, right? Yeah.
Kevin
England's annual cheese rolling race.
Bobby Bones
If you guys are just listening to this and you haven't seen it, you have. This is the greatest thing. Okay, let's put it up on the screen here, if we can.
Matt Castle
Here we go.
Bobby Bones
The cheese is rolling down the hill. They're all racing. They're nowhere near the cheese, but they are just tumbling, bumbling.
Matt Castle
Oh, my God.
Bobby Bones
They're going head over top. Oh.
Matt Castle
And they're there picking them up at the bottom.
Bobby Bones
People break their legs, Collarbones are broken. That. That's the kid that got the cheese.
Matt Castle
I mean. And so it's just bragging rights for the year.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Matt Castle
Or is it a money prize?
Bobby Bones
No, there's not really a traditional. Yeah, it's tradition, and you're the cheese guy of the year, so.
Matt Castle
Wow.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Oh, man. Dan, we don't have YouTube Premium up here.
Matt Castle
No, we don't.
Kevin
Here we go.
Bobby Bones
This is Cooper's hill. They throw the cheese down. Everybody takes off. The front guy wipes hard. They're up.
Kevin
Oh, God.
Bobby Bones
Oh, man.
Matt Castle
Bear Grylls needs to do this on his next episode.
Bobby Bones
Oh, my God. I would break a collarbone for sure. And it's, like, muddy enough to be slick.
Matt Castle
I mean, every one of those guys after their first step are just going down. That guy looks happy back there. He knows he's not getting the cheese.
Bobby Bones
Look at this guy. He goes. The guy in the middle, like, he falls, gets up, wipes out again.
Matt Castle
Broken tailbone. It's so good.
Bobby Bones
Dude, that's crazy. Look at that guy. What is. He's holding the cheese up. You're the cheese champ, buddy. You got a concussion.
Matt Castle
Oh, here we go. That guy's going. Oh, that's the worst one we've seen so far.
Bobby Bones
He's still going.
Matt Castle
Oh. Oh. He doesn't know where he is, but he's going to win.
Bobby Bones
He's dedicated.
Matt Castle
He is winning.
Bobby Bones
He does not know his name, but he's dedicated. Oh, what's your name, son? You just won.
Matt Castle
Give me the cheese.
Bobby Bones
What is that? What is your coolest athletic achievement that has nothing to do with football or baseball or, like, organized sport that you, like, competed in? Because, for example, like, I've done a couple Olympic triathlons. Good.
Matt Castle
Good for me. I would never run.
Bobby Bones
I hate running.
Matt Castle
I hate running.
Bobby Bones
I've climbed some cool stuff.
Matt Castle
There's not one that's on the top of my head, like, kind of stayed mainstream.
Bobby Bones
Maybe being an athlete, though, you never wanted to risk it, because that's your.
Matt Castle
Well, that was part of it, too. Like, part of your contract is if you get hurt off the field, then you got to pay back your signing bonus or it works against your salary. And I was like, I'm never taking that risk. Like, I never skied or snowboarded when I played or did any extreme. Just because what am I gonna do,
Bobby Bones
just go riding motorcycles?
Matt Castle
No, no. I. I rode dirt bikes one time with a buddy of mine that was like, he was in motocross and all that. He came out, and he's like, here, dude, hit this one. I had no idea what I was doing. I couldn't even change the gear. It was brutal.
Bobby Bones
You ever skydive?
Matt Castle
I was asked to skydive multiple times, and that scares the hell out of me. No. Have you?
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Matt Castle
Was it exhilarating?
Bobby Bones
No, it's terrible. I didn't want to do it to begin with.
Matt Castle
Terrifying.
Bobby Bones
Terrible.
Matt Castle
Did you do it as a tandem jump?
Intro/Outro Singer
No.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. So I woke up one morning. I had a nightmare about skydiving. I hate heights. I was living in Austin.
Matt Castle
Well, that's the. Definitely the activity you should do, then hate it.
Bobby Bones
Scared to death. And I thought, I don't want to be scared of this. So by myself, I got in my car and I drove to a skydiving place that day. Didn't tell anybody I was doing it. I went into the facility, and I said, hey, I'd like to skydive. And they said, oh, for your group, you need to Book a few days out. I said, I don't have a group. I'm by myself. So for a minute, I think that was like a suicide bomber or something, because I was by myself.
Matt Castle
Oh, they were definitely questioning, like, where you were mentally, for sure.
Bobby Bones
And I said, I would just like to jump. I'm super scared of it. So I think it'd be good for me. And they said, hold on a minute. And they went and looked at a group and there was a spot open in a group that was about to go up. And so they were like, you can go up with this group. And I said, I'm in scared to death.
Matt Castle
No proper training? No.
Bobby Bones
When you tandem on task, nothing tandem, no training needed.
Matt Castle
Wow.
Bobby Bones
And so I go up and they give. So I think they match people in the group with people based on their size, weight. Well, there was only one person left who wasn't going. And I promise you, I'm six foot in shoes, probably a little taller and shoes. I'm six one. Hey, six one. I'm six one.
Matt Castle
Six one.
Bobby Bones
My driver's license is six one. She had to be five two.
Matt Castle
She was your tandem drum.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And I remember walking out.
Matt Castle
She's on your back too, right?
Bobby Bones
She's on my back. I remember walking.
Kevin
Can't see her.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but you walk out, you. You strap up, but you don't get on the plane in tandem. You strap up once, you get in there. Have you done it?
Kevin
Yeah, I've done it once.
Matt Castle
Yeah, you have too.
Bobby Bones
I wanted nothing to do with this, but I thought, if I don't do this again, I'm such a wimp. And so we go up in this rickety plane well over San Marcos, Texas, there's nothing. It's just fields. And they give you, like a watch or whatever. It tells you how high you're going up. And they're like, at 12,000ft, that's when we're going to jump. This plane was not going to make it 13,000ft. I think 12,000 is over. And so again, we go up and she is behind me, and I'm looking forward into the plane and I can't see her, but she's talking to me. It's like she's talking from down below. She's like, okay, here's how we're getting there. Yes. And so she goes, we're gonna count to three. I'm scared to death. We're gonna be the first ones out.
Matt Castle
We were.
Bobby Bones
She goes, we're gonna count to three and then we'll go. And so they have you let go of the sides and pull your arms in, because if you hold the sides, you may not let go, right?
Matt Castle
You're like, no, actually, I'm not going.
Bobby Bones
So they go, one, two, jump. Because on three, people tense up. Or they fight it and they don't want to go, yeah. So we go flipping out. Multiple flips in a row. Flip, flip, flip, flip, flip, flip, flip. And there's a guy who jumped ahead of us, just the camera guy in the video. Flip, flip, flip. And I'm like, oh, my God, we're
Matt Castle
barreling out of control. This is it. It's over. And I didn't say goodbye to anybody.
Bobby Bones
There's nothing even cool to see. And nobody knew I was skydiving. Like, I didn't tell a single soul. So if I would have died, they'd have been like, that ain't true. He did. He would never have skydived.
Kevin
He did.
Matt Castle
What are you talking about?
Bobby Bones
No. So I. As soon as we stopped doing all the flips, it was very peaceful because there's an understanding of, yeah, I might die or I might not. But it's already been determined at this point. And it's just like, your head is out the car window. It's wild. There was no crazy like, oh, I'm fine. Ah, nothing.
Matt Castle
You didn't scream at all.
Bobby Bones
And you're.
Matt Castle
At first, maybe. Maybe the tumbling. That would freak me out.
Bobby Bones
You just don't understand what's happening with your body. You're just like, what the hell with my eyes?
Kevin
And.
Bobby Bones
But by the time you get down and you're straight and you're falling, it doesn't feel like this big gut, you know, sucked out of you. Like, when you hit a hill in a car, for sure, that doesn't happen. You're just going, huh? It kind of gets peaceful. But then. Because when they pull that cable, because it's there, and you go. It's not even that. The parachute comes up, and then you just start going slow. It shoots you up into the air, right? So it's, boo, you're up. And then you think you're gonna die, because if anything happens to that shoot at that point, oh, yeah, you're dead. Yeah, you're dead.
Matt Castle
So you're definitely dead.
Bobby Bones
We did the thing where we. I got on the ground, I was like, oh, my God. And so crazy. Part of the story has not hit yet. After the break. No, after the break, we land on the ground, and I'm like, oh, my God. And they're taking pictures, and I still haven't told anybody that I was doing this. Even after I had, like, got back in my car and driven home. And I thought, I'm gonna wait and on the show, take the video and the radio show and the pictures and show them, because they won't let you have your cell phone or anything up there. There's nothing that I had. It was coming from. They gave me a CD and some pictures, right? So I put the CD in my PlayStation because it was the only. I didn't have a DVD player. And I had the pictures on, like, a. Maybe on the CD as well. That Monday, I forgot it, and I was gonna do it. So then I'm like. I was like, I'm gonna do it on Tuesday. That Monday morning, while I'm on the air, my house gets broken into two and they steal everything. Including my.
Matt Castle
No, they didn't.
Bobby Bones
Including my skydive video, which you cannot. And I have, luckily, have, like, two pictures still from that. But there's no. I can say I tumbled.
Matt Castle
I could say you can call them back. And they didn't have another CD or something like that. No hard drive.
Bobby Bones
But they. Bro, that morning is when my house got fully robbed while I was on the air. Took every. Took my PlayStation TV. But in it was that stupid disc.
Matt Castle
So there's no real proof that you actually skydive. And you could have just made this whole story.
Bobby Bones
There are some pictures of me in, like, a green suit.
Matt Castle
Yeah, but are you on the ground?
Bobby Bones
Probably. I think I know.
Matt Castle
Yeah. I told nobody I went skydiving. I've got nothing to show for it.
Bobby Bones
Miserable for me. I hated every minute of it.
Matt Castle
I'm sorry that somebody broke into your house and stole. I'm sorry.
Bobby Bones
They stole everything. Yeah, everything good, dude. And they walked out the front door in the day, daytime. They knew I was on the air. Did you like it, Kevin?
Kevin
Like it? I wouldn't say liked it, but at first it's very scary, but you don't really know what's going on, like you said. And then it does get peaceful. But the scariest part for me was, like you said, with the plane going up, being in that plane, I was like, okay, I'm ready to jump now because this plane's going down.
Bobby Bones
Tiny, rickety. There's a reason the plane's only flying skydive.
Matt Castle
There's an open in the back.
Bobby Bones
Ours open on the side.
Matt Castle
On the side.
Bobby Bones
The back looks cool. Unlike those war movies.
Matt Castle
They're strapped in, they jump out.
Kevin
What about hot air balloon? You guys on that?
Bobby Bones
I Did that. It's the worst thing I've ever done. Worse than skydiving?
Matt Castle
Because. Never done that.
Bobby Bones
Don't. Yeah.
Matt Castle
It's just a. Right.
Bobby Bones
Something happens there.
Matt Castle
In a basket.
Bobby Bones
Yes. Without a parachute.
Matt Castle
Yeah.
Kevin
And nothing, like, tied to your waist. Like, if you go over, you go
Bobby Bones
over and, like, some dude.
Matt Castle
Doesn't sound, like, funny.
Bobby Bones
I don't know what credentials you have to have to fly a hot air balloon.
Matt Castle
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You got to pull a rope and know how to work a. And they don't. There's nowhere to land that thing. Like, you go up without a plan.
Matt Castle
That's what I'm trying to figure out. How do they get them back to where they're supposed to land? Or you just land.
Bobby Bones
So you. While you're in the air, you have to find a field or something, because it's not like there's a landing strip like an airplane.
Matt Castle
Right.
Bobby Bones
You have to find a field. If the wind starts blowing, dear God,
Matt Castle
you're at the mercy of the wind, too. Right.
Bobby Bones
And then once you land, because you're just in a basket. Once you land, their truck comes and, you know, they, like, put it all together. But I got out of there. It's worse than skydiving.
Matt Castle
I've never done that either. I've really had no desire.
Bobby Bones
Parasol?
Matt Castle
No. Parasailing. Nope. Jet skiing. Jet ski.
Bobby Bones
Jet ski is fun for, like, 11 minutes. Yeah, it's a solid 11 minutes. Like, one. Wow.
Matt Castle
This is cool.
Bobby Bones
You do one of those turns where you almost throw yourself off. You're like, all right.
Matt Castle
Wakeboarding. Wakeboarding's fun.
Bobby Bones
Wake skating.
Matt Castle
I've done skating.
Bobby Bones
Wakeboarding was a little too hard on my joints.
Matt Castle
It's hard as hell to get up
Bobby Bones
when I wipe out. It's hard.
Matt Castle
The first time doing it, I thought I ripped my forearms apart. Because you wake up the next day, you can't even close your fist because you're fighting it, and you don't know how to just straighten out your legs and get up.
Bobby Bones
Up. Oh.
Matt Castle
But once you're up, you feel pretty accomplished.
Bobby Bones
Wake skating is fun because there are no bindings. It's not wake surfing. It's a little faster than wake surfing. You're basically on, like, a skateboard, and there are no bindings for the feet, and.
Matt Castle
Oh, that would be tough as hell to get up then.
Bobby Bones
It's harder than surfing. Different than Wakeboarding. Wakeboarding goes super fast. And when you wipe out, it hurts. Yeah. Because you're going fast for that purpose.
Matt Castle
Right.
Bobby Bones
Wake skating a little faster than surfing. Surfing is like, for chill.
Matt Castle
Yeah. You're just in the back of the boat and you let go of the rope. Guys that can let go of the rope with the wake. It's pretty impressive.
Bobby Bones
You can.
Matt Castle
No. Hell no. I'm always holding onto the rope. I'm like. And then my. My fat just starts to float down into the wave, and I'm like, okay.
Bobby Bones
Then that's like, goodbye. The boat drives off.
Matt Castle
Took me 10 minutes to get up, and my ride was for three minutes. That was fantastic.
Bobby Bones
Goodbye. We should put this on the back half of the podcast, the extreme sports, all this, this whole part. So if you're hearing this, just know we did this at the beginning. And the stuff you heard at the beginning was actually what we did. Secondary, we have not talked about. Yeah, that's all right. More entertaining. Yeah. So, okay, so we're gonna wrap. Wrap up the show. Thank you for listening, which in real world, we haven't even talked about what you heard at the very beginning yet. Thank you for listening to the show. That's Matt Castle and Bobby Bones, his kickoff team. Kevin, That's Brandon Ray. We've had lots to say. All right, goodbye, everybody.
