Bobby Bones
Up in the morning and you turn the radio on and the dial just keeps on turning. This week's next bit and Bobby's on the mic. So you know what this is? This is the Bobby How Actors Got Famous While studying at the University of Texas, Matthew McConaughey met casting director Don Phillips in a bar. They were just in a bar. Phillips who I guess was drinking with McConaughey and I never had drinking bond, but is there a time when you just randomly drink with somebody and you bond with them? Oh, at a bar. That's what you do. Yes. Just like randomly. All of a sudden you're BFFs, airport bar, hotel bar. What are you. What are you doing in town? Oh, I'm an LA rat. Oh, really? Yeah. What do you do? That's how it goes. So Don Phillips was the casting director who introduced him to his friend Richard Linklater, who then was like, hey, like, your look is very interesting. Like, good looking. Put him as Wooderson and Dazed and Confused. All right, so I need a drink at a bars.
Amy
I know.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, maybe, dude. Chris Pratt. Chris Pratt was discovered while waiting tables at Bubba Gump Shrimp Stop. Yes. That's awesome. How does he get discovered being a waiter? So he was living in Hawaii. I think he was living in Hawaii in his van. Like, that's his story. He was living in a van in Hawaii, waiting tables. Actress and director Radon Chung cast him in her short film. He was like, waiting on her table.
Amy
And she was like, you look like you'd be good for this.
Bobby Bones
And I remember she was like, I have. I've heard the story on Tick Tock, if I'm correct. She said, hey, I have something for you. She calls him, like, whatever, months later, and he's like, really good. I don't have the money, like, to fly. He's broke. And she was like, I'll fly you out. All good. And then he ended up auditioning and getting the jobs.
Amy
Wow.
Bobby Bones
I wonder if he was just an awesome server, like, with a good personality.
Amy
But does it come up like, I. I've been trying to act or.
Bobby Bones
I don't think he was trying to act. Oh, I think he was just, like, partying, like, living in a van and, and like surfing and living that lifestyle. What in the world? I think it doesn't hurt that he was really good looking and probably had a great personality and someone who's looking for talent probably goes, this is something raw that I think I can use. And then you never hear from them. I've been rawing on news forever and they're like, we're gonna call you. They never do. But wasn't he, like, bigger, like, out of. More out of shape, like when he first started and then he got ripped. Right. Fluctuated. Okay. Fluctuated. Sabrina Carpenter. She was posting song covers on YouTube at age 9. When she was 11, her cover of you raise me up went so viral in China that she was invited to the Hunan TV festival. Whoa. She got viral in China. That's crazy.
Amy
Dude.
Bobby Bones
This is crazy. And then one more. Henry Caval, who was Superman but now also he's like big in some fantasy show on Netflix, right? The Witcher. He used to be on it, but he left it. But he got massive from that. Yeah. Henry Cavalry was a 16 year old student at a boarding school in England when Russell Crowe visited the school for a film shoot. They were shooting at the school. Cavill said, hey, I'm 16, I would like to act. And so Russell Crowe remembered him, sent him a gift, wrote him a note of encouragement and then followed. Yeah, that's kind of counter the stories we hear about Russell Crowe. Yeah. Cav went on to land roles the Tutors and Man of Steel. Anyway, okay, that's pretty cool. So we need to start waiting tables and just telling people like, hey, I'm drinking at bars. I don't know that a lot of these I want to act. I think one of them was this the last one. The other one's just getting drunk and waiting tables. Maybe do both get drunk and wait a table and like Charlize Theron just arguing the bank. No, just be mad. Get mad. Amy recommended a fantasy, a romantic fantasy book for us to read. And we're all like, no way. So because we were all like, no way. We're gonna put it on the wheel and someone's gonna have to read it. It's over 500 pages. I'm gonna spin this wheel. Someone will have to read the book. We'll spin the wheel next. I'm gonna spin this wheel and the loser has to read this 500 page book called 4th Wing. Not that it's a bad book, but Amy was pitching it like it's Hunger Games, which I read in love, but she was like, but they make a love to dragons.
Amy
I don't know if that's exactly what's happening, but it's a romantasy.
Bobby Bones
I don't like that.
Amy
Romance and fantasy.
Bobby Bones
So it's 500 pages. Loser has to read it. You have a month to read it. I've never read 500 pages of anything in a month. But that's a not a reason for you never to read 500 pages of something. I'm dyslexic, man. Read it backwards.
Amy
Okay, Eddie. So am I.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so what I'll do is I'll spin. Oh, God. By the way, let me read you the. The idea of the book here.
Lunchbox
Great.
Bobby Bones
Fourth Wing is a high fantasy novel by Rebecca Yarrow. It's about a young woman named Violet who is forced to attend a war college to become a Dragon Rider.
Lunchbox
Oh, my gosh.
Bobby Bones
This is. I don't mind this part. This part sounds so stupid. I'm still in. I like Game of Thrones. I'm still in. Violet is smaller and more fragile than the other cadets, and dragons are unlikely to bond with her. She must undergo intense training and trials to survive and become one of the strongest cadets. Oh, my gosh. Where's the love part? Because I hear there's lots of love making, and that's the part I don't like.
Amy
We don't know yet. We're gonna have to read to find out.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so. Oh, man. We can go one of two ways. We can spin it once and just a loser does it, or we can spin it and we eliminate the person. I don't know what I want. Yeah, I don't know either. I don't know what I want.
Lunchbox
Depends where it lands on the wheel.
Bobby Bones
Mike D. Morgan. Lunchbox. Eddie. Amy. Me, Abby, Scuba Steve.
Lunchbox
Is there anybody you want to have to read it?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, Eddie. Why me? Just how you grow. I just want you to grow as a person. You're like, I've never read more than 10 pages. Well, buddy, I think it's time to buck up. It'd be better for me. Yeah. Yes. Let's do the last. The last. So we want to mark somebody off. Everybody good at that? Okay, I'll spin, and if it lands on them, we'll change their name out to Spin again. Love it.
Lunchbox
Okay.
Bobby Bones
And then we'll play a song and do it again right after. Okay? Okay, here we go. Test spin. No. Test spin. No. Test spin.
Lunchbox
I don't want to ruin my lot.
Bobby Bones
All right. 500 pages. A romantasy. Who has to read it? Remember, if it lands on you, you're in the free. Come on, me. Let's spin that wheel. Come on, world.
Lunchbox
Show me.
Bobby Bones
Eddie. No. Scuba. Of course. Gosh, thank God, because I haven't read your other book you gave me yet. The Four Agreements. That's eight pages. I know. So it's a good thing I'm not reading that book. Okay, so we'll mark Scoob off. Well, I want to spend one more, though. Now? Yeah, one more. Let's just go ahead and get me off out of there.
Amy
Okay. Well, what you need to be thinking of, Bobby, is what's the punishment if someone doesn't read it? Because these guys, they did bail on your foreground.
Bobby Bones
You don't know that that Was a recommended. I did say they weren't forced.
Amy
This is going to be forced. So if you don't have it complete, then relax.
Bobby Bones
We'll read it. We'll come up with the punishment.
Amy
Has to do with a dragon and you.
Bobby Bones
Oh, and romance. We're gonna watch you make love to a dragon. A Komodo dragon, though. One of our choosing. Yeah. Okay, we're gonna spin one more. Come on. If it lands on spin again, and we will not spin again. We'll play a song and come back. Okay. Oh, my goodness. Let's spin that wheel. Oh, my gosh.
Lunchbox
Oh, my gosh.
Bobby Bones
Oh, my gosh. That's me. No, it's not.
Lunchbox
Morgan, right next to me.
Bobby Bones
Oh, man. Okay, not good. We're gonna put spin again on that spot.
Lunchbox
We're getting in danger territory.
Bobby Bones
We're gonna play Gonna love you from Parmalee. We'll come back after this and spin at least a couple more times. Okay, we're gonna spin the wheel. If it lands on you, you're in the clear. Yeah, you don't have to read the book. Eddie, Amy, Bobby, Abby, Raymundo, Mike D, Lunchbox, all still on it. Oh, man. We're only gonna do probably 2 spin. 2 or 3 spins total. If it lands on spin again, that counts as one of the spins. Okay. Okay.
Lunchbox
Can you take it off my name?
Bobby Bones
Here we go. Let's sp. Oh, come on. Come on, baby. Come on, baby. Mike D. All right.
Amy
Golly.
Bobby Bones
What is happening? Mike D is now in the clear. We are. The world hates me. Mike D is off on the wheel now. Ray, Abby, me, Amy, Eddie, and Lunchbox. Oh, my gosh. We should have done it the other way.
Amy
I know. We'd be done and Scoop would be reading it.
Bobby Bones
Let's spin that wheel. Oh, my God.
Lunchbox
Come on, Come on. Helps too much.
Bobby Bones
Raymondo, you're out. All the B listers are gone. All the B listers.
Amy
Okay.
Bobby Bones
Oh, I'm using the wrong marker. Hey, what do I know? The wheel's up next to me. Hold on. Will forever have a spin again? I've totally permanent markered one of the spin spots. Okay. I'm sure alcohol or something. We'll get it off. Okay, so here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna come back, we're gonna fix the wheel, though, and remove the spin agains and put us all in multiple places for later.
Lunchbox
Oh, get rid of me.
Bobby Bones
Except that one. That's always a be spin for the history of the world. Okay, so Abby, me, Amy, Eddie, and Lunchbox. Still on the board. This is so dumb. Gonna have to read this book. Okay, back. I hate walking red carpets because nobody cares about me. And if it's a red carpet and it's the CMA's or the Grammys, which I've had to do, I know that I'm in the bottom 5%. So when I'm up and someone's like, how's it going? I can always feel them looking over my shoulder at more famous people. So I hate doing them. And when I saw this happen to Babyface last night, and Babyface is wildly successful. Like back in the day, day, he had like, when can I see you again? Like, R and B singer like crazy has won 12 Grammys. And I think they're working for the AP and they're talking on the red carpet to Babyface. They may not even know Babyface. Not even the point of it. It's just they're talking to a human and they see Chapel Roan behind them, massive star. I want to play the clip because Babyface is there, looking good. He's got a black jacket on. I mean, here he is talking on the red carpet like he should, and this happens.
Amy
Can you talk about just this new trend that we're seeing in R and B, where we're seeing more of a fusion. We're seeing people blend the genre with pop, blend the genre with hip hop and rock as well.
Bobby Bones
It's interest. Chapel. Chapel. You guys want to do that? Go through that? Hello?
Amy
Oh, my gosh.
Bobby Bones
Brutal.
Amy
It's terrible.
Bobby Bones
Like, he's wildly successful and that happened to him. I feel so bad for him. And I saw people posting, I can't believe you would do this to a 12 time Grammy Award winner. And I'm thinking, I can't believe you would do this to anybody. Like, this is just a human thing. And I get it. I. This is why Hollywood sucks. And I've spent my fair share of time in Los Angeles. It sucks because that's the entire culture out there. It's like, grab the biggest, shiniest thing as quick as possible, and then when it's not shiny anymore, kick it to the curb and go to the next shiny thing. But that sucks. And also I've been there and so I've never felt more felt. But I felt terrible for Baby Face. He said like three words. Well, thank you for asking. What are you rather talk to her and then go, oh, they should not get to do red carpets anymore?
Amy
Yeah, probably not.
Bobby Bones
They're not even a big. It wasn't even like a Big stop. Meaning there are, like, seven or eight massive television stops or massive social media stops. And that's. That's the ap. I don't even know what the AP is anymore. It's a random nerve news source. Poor baby face. Oh, my gosh. So saw that. Made me cringe. Then I saw the most dangerous expired condiments in your fridge, and I wanted to read this because if these are expired in your fridge and you eat them, you could die on the inside. Okay, maybe not all the way outside, but take it from somebody. I can't eat cheese anymore. At all. It sucks. I thought it was just when I tore my stomach lining, but I think I'm now done. That's terra. This is worse than being, like, disrespected.
Amy
To CMA because, like, you can't.
Bobby Bones
Queso. No cheese. No. Queso, no milk.
Amy
No.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I have. I can't. I have. It hasn't ended well for me. I felt like baby face. I was quickly out of there. Number five, soy sauce. If you eat expired soy sauce, apparently, like, the vinegars in that, if they are now, they're not saying you have to go by the date. So that's a whole different discussion of are the dates legitimate to when it's expired. They're saying if it is expired and if it is bad, that will make you extremely sick. Number four, mustard. It lasts longer again because the vinegar is in it. But once that vinegar and the mixture of vinegar with the other chemicals goes bad, it can make you very sick. That is never an issue at my house is I will eat mustard on my fingertip. My wife. This would never be an issue. She does not eat condiments. She has never tasted mustard. She has never tasted ketchup. She has never tasted mayonnaise. That's crazy. She doesn't do any of that. Last night. Well, I messed up, and I was eating a burger, and I couldn't order it with no cheese, so the cheese came, and I tried to scrape it all off. And I love cheese. It got me a little bit. Right.
Amy
Really?
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Amy
You weren't able to get it all off?
Bobby Bones
No, I thought I was able to get most of it off, but even a little bit got me. And so last night, because I put ketchup on the plate, I was eating with the fries, and she went in and did all the dishes. After we were done, she was like, I left your dish. I'm not touching the ketchup. It makes her want to vomit. Even a plate with it on it.
Amy
She won't touch that's so weird. I love ketchup.
Bobby Bones
And number three, ketchup and barbecue sauce. If the color changes, it's not about the date. Whoa. Because sometimes and most times, you can eat beyond the date. If the color starts to change, get rid of it. Number two, salad dressing. Creamy kinds that have eggs or cheeses. Because again, we may not even know they have eggs as one of the ingredients. But you want to talk about some salmonella in your salad dressing, that can happen. Number one's mayonnaise. And again, they say it's egg based.
Amy
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So once it's been open, there's the date on it. The USDA says it's even longer than the date, depending on what it is. But they say if mayonnaise starts to change colors or doesn't smell right and you eat it, it's a ticking time bomb. Now, again, you're not going to die, but you may have happened to you. What has. What has happened to me eating cheese? It's so unfortunate. There's a lot of unfortunate things on Earth and in this world and in America, but me not being able to eat cheese is up there at the top. That's bad. It's the worst. Yeah, it's the worst.
Amy
The soy sauce is what's standing out to me the most. I honestly didn't really know that expired, so I'm going to have to go check some things.
Bobby Bones
And the barbecue sauce, I mean, I've had barbecue sauce in there for years. Soy sauce, though. I don't eat soy sauce at home. The only time I will ever touch soy sauce is I don't even really like sushi that much. It's fine. I'll do some at a. A sushi restaurant.
Amy
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Just to, like, help it go down. But other than that, soy sauce doesn't really factor in at our house.
Amy
Oh, okay.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Amy
No, my daughter likes it. We do like, a rice and ground beef or something, and she'll just like to sprinkle that on top. My kids love them. Some sodium, like a salt.
Bobby Bones
Hey, I don't mind some sodium, but yeah. Bones. This show is sponsored by BetterHelp. For me, therapy is a game changer. And it's not even every week I go on a walk out like, I'm a brand new man. Bobby Bones
Say about the book?
Amy
Oh, my friend Tiffany. She just texted me and she was like hey, I'm cracking up about the book. It's great. But the first book has some serious steamy sex scenes so heads up.
Bobby Bones
That's why I don't want to read the book. It just was weird.
Amy
I just replied haha. I hope one of the Guys has to end up reading it.
Bobby Bones
So we've been spending will and the eventual loser has to read this 500 page book. We got it in the news next. So we'll continue with the wheel spinning tomorrow. There are only a few of us left. It's mostly the us in the room. So we have to read this book called. What's it called? Dragon. Dragon sex.
Amy
It's called 4th 4th Wing, 4th Wing.
Bobby Bones
And it's, I'm sure it's a great.
Amy
Humans and dragons and I don't know what they do to with each other exactly.
Bobby Bones
Okay, so we'll come back and we'll do the news. Also don't Forget tomorrow night, 98 Central, my special on CMT. I would love it if you're able to check that out. It's free. Someone was like, you have to pay for it. If you have CMT on your cable package or whatever it is, you can watch it 9, 8 Central on CMT. We will in the news talk about a lot of the airplane stuff, not the helicopter plane crash. There was another plane crash over the weekend and then there was another flight that had to be evacuated with slides because of an engine issue. We'll talk about that and more next. Bones. Six people including the pilot and co pilot died in a medical jet crash in northeast Philadelphia. You may have saw the clips on social media. The jet bound for Tijuana, Mexico crashed shortly after takeoff. The NTSB is investigating the accident. It looked like a missile went into a building. And then when you see it from like people's door cams and some people would have like those cameras in their cars. It's, I mean that's what it looked like because that's an airplane going that fast into the top of that building. You see it at all?
Amy
Yeah, I saw some and I, I the from takeoff to when it just plummeted like you said, like straight down. And it was like less than a minute.
Bobby Bones
If you were just to see the flash again, it was, that plane was going down so fast it looked like somebody shot a missile down.
Amy
Yeah, it shot straight down.
Bobby Bones
So that happened. And that was terrible. And again it's right after that flight hit the helicopter, there was another one United Airlines flight which did not crash but had to be evacuated because of an engine issue. And then a lot of people had their, everybody has phones up recording stuff all the time. But they were going Houston to New York and no injuries were reported. But they had to like first all the stuff came out the slide and stuff. But they got everybody off Smoke can be seen coming out of the plane. The engine blew right as the wheels were leaving the ground. The plane lost control on the Runway for a few seconds, but the pilot was able to get the plane back under control. Only one slide was working for the plane to evacuate. ABC News. Does all the plane stuff make you not want to fly?
Amy
I mean, I've. I don't have any flights coming up, so. But I've thought about if I were to get offered to go somewhere or have to do something for work right now, I would definitely bored with like, you know, extra anxiety.
Bobby Bones
Anxiety is a good word. I would encourage people to, to think of it like this. That helicopter and the American Airlines plane, right? That is such an anomaly. Like that was a terrible, extremely tragic thing that happened. The other things have nothing to do with that. The other was a tiny private plane. It wasn't a commercial plane. We don't know what happened. There were six people on. The other was. I mean, there's probably engine stuff that happens a lot like this. But because it's in the news, it gets elevated to the top of the news. So it seems like there's even more of it happening. And when you look at the amount of flights that are getting up, taking off, landing, the percentage is so fewer than car crashes and deaths in car crashes, like by a tremendous amount. And if they reported every car crash and death as a headline, people would go, I don't want to drive. But I encourage people to not let fear take hold of them. It has been a crazy year. And here we are February 3rd. The fires, the plane crashes. I'm sure there's like two or three other.
Amy
Well, I mean, it all started in New Orleans. Started New Year's.
Bobby Bones
New Orleans. That's right. Terrible. And we, we've forgotten about even terrible ones because other things take the news.
Amy
Precedent, school shootings, crazy things. Yeah, terrible.
Bobby Bones
This has been a bad year. Now we're fighting with Canada. I love Canada. The year just started too. Canada, I love you. I just want to say I love Canada. And I want to give everybody in Canada a big old hug and go Canada. But go America and go Canada both. Yeah, that's what I want to say.
Amy
It's a struggle.
Bobby Bones
I don't believe this story. And I brought it up because we're in the midst of making somebody read this romantasy book. It's like a romance fantasy book. Men are more into reading romance than women, according to new research. I don't know who they researched. Anybody in this room? No, not us. Romance is what I don't reading descriptions of people doing. It's weird. I. I read 50 Shades of Gray because I thought it was hilarious and I even then I was like, this is the weirdest thing I ever read. I read it as a bit. I read Twilight on purpose, but I read 50 Shades of Gray as a bit.
Amy
I don't know if y'all are guys and y'all know that that's what y'all need to say. So you're like, yeah, no, I never read that.
Bobby Bones
Or I never feel the need to say anything. All the stuff I carry a purse. What do you want from me?
Amy
Right?
Bobby Bones
I would happily admit if you were.
Amy
Into romance novels, I would admit it'd.
Bobby Bones
Be a funnier bit. If I was, I'd come in and tell you about it.
Amy
So nobody here these I don't want to. You don't want it?
Bobby Bones
I've never read one, so I don't know yet. They would lie, but I will not. Romance is one of the most popular book genres, but new research suggests that the idea it's mostly women is wrong. Here's the thing, and I want to be completely honest with everybody listening. Men want to see visuals. Women can do words. Am I being descriptive enough? Sure.
Amy
So where are the men that are saying yes to that?
Bobby Bones
Men want pop up books of this. If there's something they wanted to pop up and go, you know how those kids books have the thing come up. Yes, yes. That's what men want.
Amy
I know. But I wonder if we have any man that will admit to this anywhere. Probably because I don't know any man.
Bobby Bones
They're saying more men are more into reading. That's not true. That would be 51%. There's no chance first time Powerball player wins $150,000 in North Carolina. By the way, I scratched again and I did hit for $150 on a $50 ticket. Still haven't hit my goal, but I did scratch and hit 150. I have a stack of tickets here. I'm just going through them as I can. Hurdle Mills resident Sydney Davis told North Carolina Education Lottery officials she went to the store and bought her first ever Powerball ticket. The ticket matched four white balls and the red Powerball in Wednesday's drawing, earning her the $50,000 prize, but was tripled thanks to choosing the Power play option of 3x. So in her first time ever buying a ticket, she had for $150,000.
Amy
That's awesome.
Bobby Bones
Congratulations to you. Groundhog Day Punxsutawney Phil makes his prediction of six more weeks. WFTV. Don't you know that, like, 50 years ago, people actually believe this was real?
Amy
Oh, I still feel like it's not real.
Bobby Bones
It has nothing to do with anything.
Amy
Nothing to do with anything.
Bobby Bones
Nothing. It has. It's a shadow. It's. The groundhog sees its shadow. So it's just dependent on if the sun is out that day. But, you know, 50, 60, 70 years ago, people were gathered around going, oh, I sure hope it gets warmer for the crops. It has nothing to do with anything.
Amy
Oh, I see. I read that and I was like, oh, dang, six more weeks.
Bobby Bones
It's fun. It's like people's horoscopes, astrology. It's the fakest crap ever. There is no. There's absolutely no basis in fact that astrology exists. And if you or means anything, but if you believe it, good for you. That's fun. But if you, like, fight for it, you can never hold public office.
Amy
But don't you think that there is something to being born at a certain time of year? Yeah, I thought you did. Because of, like, when you're born at this month, you may act this way or.
Bobby Bones
That's different than where the stars are. If you're born in a month based on when school starts, so you're like the oldest kid. That's different than being born when a star is a certain amount of distance from another sun or a star.
Amy
Yeah, I know.
Bobby Bones
That's different. Yeah, that's. That's literal. You're an older kid, so you're stronger than the other kids in sports and probably a little smarter because you've been alive longer. Especially when you're 3, 4, 5 years old. If you believe that Mercury's in retrograde and that's affecting your mood.
Amy
It does shift.
Bobby Bones
It does not. Yes, it does not. You're out of your mind. There is absolutely no factual base of any of that ever.
Amy
Take that away from me for when I'm acting crazy and I get on Mercury. Mercury retrograde.
Bobby Bones
It's fun and I'm okay with it. And you don't really believe it.
Amy
There is a little tilt. There's something shifted. There's a pill, the pool. I don't even know what you're saying.
Bobby Bones
You don't even know what you're saying.
Amy
Yes. Shift, tilt, pull. There's things happening.
Bobby Bones
There's absolutely nothing scientific or factual about astrology. Yes.
Amy
You don't think there's anything happening when Mercury is in retrograde?
Bobby Bones
No, I think Mercury in Retrograde is what people like to say when they've screwed up and they're having a bad day or they're just not feeling good.
Amy
No, there's like technical difficulties. Like it's not even just humans. Like techy things mess up because of the polls and the.
Bobby Bones
Sure. You're saying techie things and polls and tilts. No chance.
Amy
This is very official.
Bobby Bones
An adult gap year is in the news. And I'm telling you right now, nobody I ever grew up with had the money to do this. And the fact that they're acting like this is a growing trend. There's a growing trend among adults to take a mid career break. Also known as adult. An adult gap year. Who can afford this? It can mean anything from a three to six month long sabbatical or break. If you have a job where you can take a sabbatical, that's a rich person job anyway. Or a job in education, which may not be rich, but you got summers off. But you're also. No, no, no. Sabbatical is different than summers off. Well, if you take a sabbatical, you have another job you're doing while you're doing that. Oh, like I'm going to take a sabbatical and write a book. If you're in, you know, advanced education.
Amy
Oh, I see.
Bobby Bones
It allows employees to take a mental break. Allows people to come back refreshed and reinvigorated. These people don't pay the bills.
Amy
Or maybe they've done a good job saving and then they live frugally on their sabbatical.
Bobby Bones
I'm gonna bet nobody in middle class America goes, no, you know what, honestly, I'll take a sabbatical and I'll tell you what Hun's gonna say. You're out of your mind. Get back to work. Yes, we have a car payment. You're out of your mind. Yeah, true, true. And finally, if you need a better night's sleep, switch to linen sheets. Researchers report that people who sleep on linen sheets fall asleep faster and wake up in better moods, especially when mercury's in retrograde. Wow.
Amy
Okay, look at that.
Bobby Bones
I lied about that second part. But no, true, they say this is what. This is what's said in the Little Red Book of Men's Confidential Secrets from Rodell Press. Researchers report that people who sleep on linen sheets fall asleep faster, wake up better moods. Researchers believe it may be because linen sheets feel different against the skin and disperse body heat better than other fabrics. So in summer is when you wear linen shirts, I'm told. Mm. Is that because it's not as hot. I'm assuming, like it's a fabric. That would make sense.
Amy
Body can breathe.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Amy
I thought we were supposed to sleep on bamboo sheets or something.
Bobby Bones
Okay, you're doing astrology here. You're sleeping on bamboo in the jungle under the sun. What's happening here? All right, there you go. That's the news. Those were Bobby's big stories. Bones, let's go talk to Carla, who is living in Kansas. Hey, Carla, what's going on? Hey, Bobby. How excited are you that your team, Arkansas beat 12th ranked Kentucky with John Calipari coming back to Kentucky to play? Yeah, that was fun. It's funny to hear. So I would imagine you're not an Arkansas fan. Are you a Kansas fan, Carla?
Eddie
I.
Bobby Bones
Sorry. I am a Kansas Jayhawks fan, but I saw that game and I was like, oh, Bobby, Bones is going nuts. I was, I was very happy. I think it's funny and I appreciate the passion. I was talking to one of my other friends who was trying to do the hog call and he was like, whoop. And I was like, that's more A and M. He was like, sue up. It's like, no, no, no. And we don't. We just appreciate people even trying out of nowhere. It makes us feel good, makes us feel like we belong. So when Carla came out with to sue, that's more like if you're trying to call a hog for real, maybe. And that because my uncle had a bunch of pigs, I had to slop a bunch of pigs growing up. And it's disgusting because we have to go to all the restaurants and collect all their tossed away food, throw it away food, and slop all his pigs. And really the suey is just a really high pitched squeal. It doesn't even matter. It's almost like if you're yelling at a dog, this is like a real pig. And you're like trying to make any high pitched noise to get them to come. So with the pigs, we try to get the pigs to come to the slop. We just go like that. It's kind of what that's rooted in. So she probably could have called a real pig, but the real call is woo. Pig. Sue. Like that. Okay, now that that's all clear. Yeah, it's pretty fun. So our team, not very good this year. We haven't won many games, at least not in conference play. We were like 1 in 6 in conference play. And we go into Kentucky, they're a nine point favorite. It's almost impossible to Win at rupees. And they booed John Calipari because he was their coach for, I think, 18 years. They wanted him to leave, but he left and came to us and they booed him hard. He won a national championship for them.
Amy
Yeah, that's weird.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. And they wanted him to go. And so he was like, all right, I'll go. And so he came and we beat the crap out of him. And it was pretty awesome. Now the season's been pretty terrible, but that was our one shining moment, hopefully. Well. Well, that. I'm glad we had it. It probably is our one shining moment for the season. Yeah, it was great. And I trolled Kentucky fans all weekend on Twitter because they do nothing but come at me all the time. I'm over here doing nothing. They come at me. But it was a pretty good one, Carla. It was one of the highlights of the weekend. So I appreciate that call. I bet you watched it. You watched, stayed up watch that game. It started at like 8 o'clock. It was a late game. Yes, it was a late one. I watched that in the entire Royal Rumble.
Amy
What's that?
Bobby Bones
I watched five hours of Royal Rumble. Oh, yeah.
Amy
You watched five hours of Royal Rumble.
Bobby Bones
And it was on at the same time as the basketball game? Well, the Royal rumble started at 5pm the basketball game was at 8. And it started with the women's Royal Rumble. And then I watched the Tag Team Championship. It was a two out of three fall match. And then I watched the Cody Rhodes and KO Match. And then I watched the men's Royal Rumble. And all that together was about five hours. And it was free. It was on Paramount.
Amy
Wow.
Bobby Bones
It was. They. They hardly ever do pay per views for free. It was a massive one up here. No, no, no. It was on Peacock. I was on Peacock. It was awesome.
Amy
Well, free if you have Peacock.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but we always say that like it's free if you. If you have the service, like it's included. It's not a pay per view, which it has always been in the past or for the most part where you have to pay like 40 bucks in addition.
Amy
Okay.
Bobby Bones
No, no, no. Just a pay per view in general would be like you had to pay and then you have to go to some random channel and watch it there.
Amy
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So that was it. Watched a bunch of wrestling.
Amy
Well, I'm happy for you.
Bobby Bones
That's Saturday night.
Amy
Yeah. You got a little Royal Rumble session in and you won basketball double whammy.
Bobby Bones
I feel like you're talking down to me with the word session.
Amy
No, But I like it.
Bobby Bones
Mike, do you watch Royal Rumble? I just saw clips on TikTok. I saw that. I show speed guy get. He got crushed harder than I think even he thought he pro. He got. So every once in a while in the Royal Rumble, they'll throw people in who shouldn't even be wrestling because you're always wondering who's next. And there are 30 people that come into the ring. Last one remaining is the champ. And one of the beat up guys, they called him out, and he got beat up immediately. He didn't even go in. So Triple H, who's now one of the head executives, like, we got to find somebody to replace him. So they call speed in Speed races everybody on social media. Tyreek won't race him.
Amy
I don't even. I don't even know what you're saying right now.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, that's okay. And so they called speed in, and speed went out, and it was cool. I liked it. And then he got crushed. He did not look prepared for that. It was hilarious. See his leg after? Yeah, I mean, he had a chunk out of it. So speed races people, like, just for fun. That's his thing. Nobody's faster than. He'll, like, jump over cars. Yeah, he. The cars will drive down the road. He'll. Yeah, he's super athletic. I mean, he did backflip soon as he got in the ring. And then he got crushed with a spear. Like people's camera phone. Like their camera from their phones from the top. You see it not even on television. He got crushed. Yeah. That was the weekend. But Carla, appreciate that call. I hope you have a great week. You too, Bobby. All right. See you later, Bones. You know, you'll find all sorts of stats about how certain big life choices can cause anxiety. Moving is one. That's a big one. Eddie
Hey, how's it going?
Bobby Bones
Pretty good.
Eddie
Good, Good. Hey, I was watching, you know, the awards last night and when they came to America, you know, the music. What is it? The album awards for country music. I was shocked that this woman won that compared to what she had on the other people. I mean, they were just so much for, you know, in there. And my understanding is she didn't do anything in Nashville with this song. It was all out in la. And I just. I just don't understand how that happens unless. Unless your name is Beyonce.
Bobby Bones
Okay, Define a couple things. The first thing you did define, you said this woman. So you're talking about Beyonce and what do you mean didn't do anything with anyone in Nashville? Could you elaborate on that?
Eddie
Supposedly, I was told. Supposedly she had no country writers or singers or musicians helped her with this album. That's what I was told. I don't know if it's true or not. But it would be, you know, it is what it is. But, you know, you have Post Malone, you had Lainey Wilson and all these other people. I mean, dude, they're awesome. I mean, this. This girl, I don't know, she just. She doesn't go for me. Okay? I've been around a long time.
Bobby Bones
So. Because she doesn't go for you, and because supposedly. Which I would encourage you to just check on a few things before you, you know, say she doesn't have anything happening from Nashville. Now, did they promote the record in Nashville? Not really, no. But that's not. That's not accurate because there were some artists that she had on the album that are Nashville artists, like, as collabs. So that point is not true. And I'm not fighting for or against the record, because here's the thing. I don't feel like I have to have an opinion on everything if I don't have an opinion on everything. So, like, Britney Spencer was on the album, who has been on our show, has been on Amy's podcast, who lives in Nashville, who has definitely one of the CMAs, who. So Willie Nelson is on the album. Now, you can say Willie Nelson, but Willie Nelson doesn't live in Nashville. Country dude, but he's as country as it gets. So I could go through all of this because Dolly's on it. Dolly lives in Nashville. So I guess my first encouraging word would be, you know, I hate disinformation. I don't think you're being disinformative on purpose. I think a little bit you're irritated that Beyonce won the country album of the year. But I wouldn't use incorrect facts as your argument, because then it kind of blows your whole argument. It's like in court, if all of a sudden you get caught lying about something, well, how are we going to trust anything else you say? So that's the first thing I'm going to say. Second of all, it really doesn't matter if you feel like it's country or not. The Grammys did it is a different voting base and block than the award shows in Nashville. Both have tremendous flaws. All award shows have tremendous flaws to them. And I'll give you both flaws that I feel. CMAs and ACMs, they are the. The Country Music Awards that are based in Nashville very much. If you're not Nashville and you're not part of, like, the group and you don't have, like, your. Your management and your agents and your record label, like, you need all that, like, you got to be in And a lot of people who are super country don't parentheses like more or if you're super successful, like Morgan Wallen forever didn't win entertainer of the year and people were ticked off about it. So there's a probably too much of a, hey, we're only Nashville and nobody else gets to win. It's why Zach Bryan doesn't get nominated for stuff. You think Zach Brian's country. Kevin.
Eddie
So. So, I mean, a little bit.
Bobby Bones
No real Nashville. No real Nashville People on his record. I mean, a few, but not really. He's an Oklahoma guy, does his own with his own band. So, I mean, you could say the same thing that you say about Zach Bryan that you could with Beyonce, but I don't. I think they both made country records and people will be like, well, why haven't. To me, why haven't you been supporting Beyonce? I've tried to get her on the show multiple times. She doesn't want to come on the show. I can't. When the record came out, I was like, yeah, I think it's pretty good. I definitely think she did a country record. And same with Zach Bryan. Why won't he come on the show? He doesn't come on the show. I definitely think he does country music and records. Not my job to define it. I think the public, I think if you like capitalism in general, this is music capitalism. The Grammys. Here's the bad thing about the Grammys. It's a whole different group of voters. People could be voting on this. They don't even really care about country music. And they just go, we're just going to vote Beyonce because we think since she didn't get nominated at CMA's or ACM's or we like her record better than some of the other country stuff that we don't even like at all, we're going to vote for it. So I also think people love dealing in rage currency. If somebody would have won, I don't think you would have been as happy as you are mad that she lost. And it's not going to affect your day any way whatsoever. Like, it literally will affect your day. None had she won or Lani won or whomever else was Post Malone, who by the way, was a rapper until three years ago. Yeah. So I think people get way too invested in what is and what isn't country because we've constantly been proven wrong. Every version of wow, now this is country music has. Every version has been wrong. And is the Beyonce record one of my top 10 listened to albums of the year. No, I don't even listen to albums. I mean, I don't. She won best country album. Okay. You know how many albums I listened to last year? None. Maybe a few songs here and there. But really, I'm just not gonna let it irritate me, because I don't care. It doesn't affect me. It didn't affect me when she wasn't nominated. It doesn't affect me when she won't. Both of these award show policies, they're just giving away little trinkets. They're trophies. And the voters are coming from two completely different places. Now, if I were to set up the perfect award show that I feel like absolutely represents each genre, I would just make me the ultimate judge. That's the award show. And I do.
Amy
It sounds fair.
Bobby Bones
That's what everybody would do. Otherwise. It's not fair.
Amy
Mm.
Bobby Bones
So listen, I have no problem. I literally, if. If Lainey would have won or Beyonce won, my day's no different. So I'm definitely not gonna get upset about something that doesn't affect me. And also, I'm just not. If I'm gonna go into an argument, too. If I were gonna call Tygan Daniel this morning in Tulsa and be upset about Beyonce winning, I would definitely get my facts right. First, because I'm about to be on a show, and I'm about to get on and say, this is what I think, and I'm gonna line up, like, seven points that they're gonna go, oh, wow, I didn't think about that. I'm not gonna lead with, well, I've heard there's nobody from Nashville on it. Because then as soon as I go, well, that's not right. Everything else just kind of cut your legs out from under you. I think you're probably a good dude. And this is. I think I'm just irritated at everybody for all of this, and I'm just taking it out on Kevin. But also in a very kind way, I must say. Feeling very kind here. I like Kevin, but, you know, the best country song went to Casey Musgraves and the Architect. And you can go, well, that song didn't even make it on the radio. Okay, who cares? But who cares, right? It's so good.
Amy
So good.
Bobby Bones
Same with Beyonce's album. There are people that will sit and go, it's so good. But did Beyonce also get a ton of listening from just her fans, more than country music fans? Probably. I would say yes, but it doesn't matter. Best country solo performance went to Chris Stapleton. It Takes a woman. Beyonce was in these categories, too, and didn't win. She didn't win best country, like duo with her and Miley Cyrus. And I was like, dang, Miley got one. Billy Ray didn't ever. So they're just trinkets, man. Even we win them, they're just trinkets. And if you start trying to define art, that's when you kill art. And eventually, if it's done and it isn't, I will say based on integrity. It doesn't have to be country music. It can be jazz. It can be. Then eventually the capitalism of music fans are going to kill it. So if you love capitalism, you've got to love new things. Hopping into genres. Beyonce's also not claiming, I'm here to be a country artist forever. Same as Post Malone, by the way. Post Malone's not. Post Malone came and has done his thing, but I don't think he's ever. He's going to put out country music the rest of his career. And as long as someone doesn't claim that, I don't mind. You want to come into Nashville or you want to come and do country music and be like, I am a massive fan of this. I want to do a record like this. That's cool. What annoys me is when people act like they've always been it and they're always going to be it, and it's only because they failed somewhere else. I have no problem with Ringo doing it because Ringo's kind of always done it. It's just shipped. People like Ringo Starr doing a country record, dude, listen to this stuff. Thirty years ago, it wasn't country then, but if it existed now, you'd be like, well, that's kind of country. Yeah. So that's all I have to say. I can read you some of the other stuff. Chapel Rohn, Best New Artist The Sabrina Carpenter performance was pretty good last night. It's kind of funny, too. Like, she started up, she was going down these stairs, and she couldn't quite get on the spotlight. And so it looked very like vaudeville on purpose. And she had a cane and it was real funny. And she'd be like getting the spotlight and it would kind of move and she'd miss it. And then she was going down these stairs and they had built. Because of the camera angle, you couldn't tell that the stairs that she missed were not in the same set of stairs. So it looked like she was going. She went down behind the stairs. She was like, what the crap? It was super funny. And she did that, and then she rolls into. So she did espresso into maybe. Please, please, please. Is that what it was? Yeah. Yeah. And then she went back into espresso. It was awesome. I thought that was a really, really fun performance.
Amy
She's funny. When I went to her concert, I didn't realize, like, how she, like, weaved in all this, like. Oh, you went to a show Throwback. Yeah, Caitlin and my daughter. And remember, I saw you.
Bobby Bones
I wasn't out at the concert. You were there.
Amy
I know, but I went to your house.
Bobby Bones
This is how you guys find out. I want to. Anyway, if you guys all went. I don't know where you were going.
Amy
Oh, yeah, you didn't know we were.
Bobby Bones
Oh, how long ago was that?
Amy
Gosh, you don't remember every single thing we do.
Bobby Bones
I know.
Amy
It's so weird. It was last fall.
Bobby Bones
I thought the Dochi winning last night was super cool because I. I only know her from TikTok and I started watching her stuff and she's like theatrical hip hop and she's like, talking, and then it's like. It hits you super weird at first. You're like, what is happening here? It's awesome. Yeah, she was cool. And then she gets on and gives a great speech and like, third woman ever to win the best rap album. Lauryn Hill, Cardi B and Doji. And again, that's TikTok that exposed me to her. So I had a lot of her show up in my. I'm not cool enough. My point is, I'm not cool enough to know Dochi unless I start to see it on TikTok. Mike, you. Yeah, I mean, I saw her for the first time last night. I didn't. Oh, really? Seen her before now. Yeah. Did you see Benson Boone? Yes. Like, that dude does flips on stage. I know. Like, that's crazy. Benson Boone came to me and my fee. Everything's tick tock on my feet because he was doing a Cranberries cover. I think he was doing Linger. Right? It was a big Linger cover. Do you have to? Maybe. Anyway, that's it. The Beatles did win for. This is the weird one. Now I can understand if people have a little beef with best rock performance. The Beatles winning. This would be the one where I go, I'm gonna listen to your argument and I'm gonna hear it. Because they used AI because John Lennon is not alive anymore. And where was the performance in AI World? In the metro? I don't know, dude. The Beatles won for now and then best rock performance. So you May. Look, maybe they did a. I don't know. Maybe they did a performance of it with a. No, I didn't do it. I think it just says it's a performance. Okay song. Yeah. But I did see a new version of the Beatles when they were kind of messing. Playing around. It was Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Ringo, and somebody else. And they were playing, like, a little show. That's cool. So that's fun. And then I did see the Nirvana at Fire Aid. Do you see Nirvana playing Mike? I saw that. Yeah, they did. So it was Dave Grohl on drums. It was Pat Smear playing bass. Playing guitar. It was Chris Novoselick playing bass. So those are all the members of Nirvana and Kurt Cobain dead. But instead they had Joan Jett, they had Dave Grohl's daughter, who was really good. And they had St. Vincent, who also performed, I believe, at the Rock and Roll hall of Fame with them, because Kurt was dead. And I thought that was pretty cool. I watched a lot of Fire aid stuff on TikTok over the weekend. I thought Alanis was awesome. Like, she still crushes. That was one of my favorite. Just to see her sing again. I mean, no Doubt was like, they still crushed, too. They. They were good. Yeah. And they're still playing a lot, though. Like, I think they're. They're, like, touring again or doing a bunch of shows. It's so cool. The energy's still there. And they're so, like. And they're not super old, but they're old. But maybe it's because we saw Gwen, and Gwen still performs. That Wasn't that novel to me? Because Gwen performed at iheart Festival, too, this last year. But, yeah, they did. I saw Gracie Abrams do Counting Crows. Long December. That was good. Which is super cool. At first I was like, I don't know if I like it. And then it was really good. But mostly I didn't know if I liked it because I love Counting Crows, and I'm like, do not disrespect the Long December. But that's it. Kevin, anything else? I don't know if you're still there. Anything else? You're free to say I'm here. Okay. I don't want to hang up on you and let you not say whatever you want to say.
Eddie
No, everything's good, man. I appreciate it. I listen to y'all almost every day. 80 miles, one way.
Bobby Bones
Dang. Where are you going for 80 miles?
Eddie
I go to Charlottesville, University of Virginia. I work up there.
Bobby Bones
So you drive an hour and a Half every morning to work and then how far is it back? Is it traffic get you on the way back?
Eddie
No, it's not bad at all. It's not bad at all, but I've been doing it for 30 years.
Bobby Bones
Oh, my goodness. You must love your hometown.
Eddie
Yes. Mechanics do.
Bobby Bones
I do, man. Good for you. That's a long drive. Well, I appreciate you listening and thank you for calling and hope you have a great rest of the day. And hey, I think it's absolutely acceptable if you don't like the Beyonce album. I think that's absolutely cool. And there's a lot of stuff I don't like, so we're all good there. All right, buddy, have a great. Have a great rest of the day.
Eddie
You too. Bye. Bye.
Bobby Bones
See you later. Bobby Bone show Bonehead glory of the day.
Lunchbox
This story comes to us from the zoo. A 28 year old man decided, hey, I need to build my TikTok following. How am I gonna do that? There's lions at the zoo. If I go and get a TikTok video with the lions, I'm gonna go viral. So he went to the zoo, climbed into the lion cage and got mauled.
Bobby Bones
So he did get mauled.
Lunchbox
Yeah, he got injuries to his face, shoulder and arm.
Bobby Bones
Did somebody at least record it? Right. Because he never said he didn't want to get mauled. He just wanted a TikTok following. Did it go viral? Right. That's because maybe he's willing to sacrifice that.
Lunchbox
They have video of it from the, like, zoo's perspective, but there is no TikTok video from him.
Bobby Bones
So the zoo can go viral and get the followers, but he can't. Yeah, that's probably one where you get in there and you're good. There's a split second where you're like, I made a bad decision. Like tiger, eye to eye. You're like, oh, this was not what I thought it was gonna be. Okay, I'm lunchbox.
Lunchbox
That's your bonehead story of the day.
Bobby Bones
Experts say get a pen and paper and start writing more, just like we did back in the day. If you want to create connections with people, a handwritten letter carries an emotional weight that conveys effort and care. Especially if you're thanking someone, showing appreciation or asking a favor. A handwritten letter has five times the effect on a person than when they read an email. That's from Woman's World magazine. When's the last time you've written anything, Amy? Of substance?
Amy
Oh, recently, I guess.
Bobby Bones
You probably journal.
Amy
Yeah, I journal daily, pretty much. But I've been trying to do some notes and I can say that I received a handwritten note from a friend in the mail a couple of weeks ago.
Bobby Bones
In the mail.
Amy
That's a dog in the mail. Yeah. And I thought, well, this is really. This is really. It just meant a lot to me and it was random, out of nowhere, and she was just sharing some things. And I thought, well, this is really special. And I know how it made me feel, so I want to make others feel that way so I can get behind this.
Bobby Bones
I feel like I just confuse people if I write things because I can't read my writing most of the time. So if I'm going to write something multi sentences, they don't know what it is either.
Amy
What about if you write slow?
Bobby Bones
Doesn't matter. I have terrible handwriting. I can't draw. Can't really write.
Amy
You could write.
Bobby Bones
I should have been a doctor. I got the perfect doctor.
Amy
Scribble.
Bobby Bones
Scribble. Yeah. Lunchbox. You ever write stuff? Yeah, I write all the time.
Lunchbox
Like answers to games?
Bobby Bones
No, like sentences. You know what I'm asking?
Lunchbox
No, I don't write anything.
Amy
Like, not even to your wives? Both. Any of them?
Lunchbox
What would I write to my wife?
Bobby Bones
Write to our wife. Hey.
Amy
What?
Bobby Bones
I send her texts all the time. Let me pick up food for lunch. What do you need from me? What do we write? What would you write?
Amy
Did you listen to what Bobby just read? It's more connection. Like, oh, we're connected pretty good. No, no, no, no, no.
Bobby Bones
She's with me. Yeah, we feel pretty great.
Amy
Do you know how much it would mean to her if you just did a handwritten note and like, I don't.
Bobby Bones
Know that it would.
Amy
What did it say? What's the last line of that article you just read? Like five times. It means five times more.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but who says that? Who said that? Woman's world. I'm not a woman. That's not my world. So anyway, if you want to write notes again, Abby got a job here because I didn't hire her for the initial job. She wrote me a handwritten letter and I was like, hey, what about that old girl with the good handwriting? Gosh, that's true. We brought her back in and I said, write for me in person, and she did. And I was like, you're in.
Amy
So it meant more to you?
Bobby Bones
I had her all on handwriting. We're done. We'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye, everybody. Bobby Bones.

Could catch anything sitting in this doctor's waiting room. A kid just wiped his runny nose on my jacket and the guy next to me sitting in a pool of perspiration insists on sharing my armrest.

“It's 500 pages. Loser has to read it. You have a month to read it.” [06:40]

“500 pages. A romantasy. Who has to read it?” [08:35]
Final Decision:
The segment concludes without a definitive loser, as technical difficulties impede the final selection. The hosts agree to revisit the challenge in future episodes.
