Serious Fun Camp Narrator
Most people believe that childhood should be about curiosity, freedom, figuring out who you are, and even running a little bit wild. But for many kids living with medical challenges, the experience is more like hospital rooms, medical treatments, and rules about what's safe. That's why legendary actor and philanthropist Paul Newman founded Serious Fun, a network of medically supported camps and programs that give kids living with serious illnesses the chance to, as he put it, raise a little hell. At serious fun camps, kids get to experience the thrill of flying down a zipline, participate in talent shows, sing songs around the campfire, and make lifelong friends who truly understand their journey. And thanks to skilled volunteer medical specialists and staff, every activity is tailored to each child's unique health requirements to ensure they have the experience experience of a lifetime. Best of all, Camp is always free for campers and their families. This is where you come in. You can help deserving children experience the freedom and fun they never thought possible to get involved. Movie Mike
welcome back to Movie Mike's Movie Podcast. I am your host, Movie Mike. Today I want to talk about perfect movies. Films that are great from start to finish. Because recently on this podcast I awarded a 5 out of 5 which is the first time I have done that in over two years. So I'll tell you all the movies I have given perfect scores to and movies throughout history that maybe I would have handed out some five out of fives. In the movie review we'll be talking about Ready or Not to, which is a follow up to a horror movie that I believe is greatly underrated. So did it live up to my expectations I have based upon that movie and in the trailer park I will blind react to the new Spider man brand new day trailer and I've been waiting for this. They teased us all the way leading up to it. Oh man, this is going to be good. So thank you for being here. Thank you for being subscribed. Shout out to the Monday Morning Movie Crew. And now let's talk movies from the Nashville Podcast Network. This is Movie Mike's Movie Podcast. Last week I gave out my first five out of five in over two years. It went to Project Hail Mary. In my opinion, that theater experience, the expectations I had from reading the book, it was perfect and I have to go based upon my true emotions immediately after leaving that theater. I always record my review within a day of that and sometimes I'm writing high up emotion and I have to factor that in. So some of those will represent the hype that it builds. And sometimes maybe I get a little bit too enamored. But I still believe that these movies at that time were five out of fives. Well, we're going to see how some of these movies hold up. A viral list was recently posted on Reddit of 20 movies that people believe are perfect films. We'll get into that and then at the end of that I will hand out some five out of five to other movies. We'll kind of go back in time. If I had just seen them for the first time, how I would have reviewed them. Movies that I believe from history are perfect. But let's get into the first movie. I rated a 5 out of 5 back when I started the podcast in 2019. My first 5 out of 5 came within probably the first 10 episodes. It went to Joker. Now, this was a very polarizing movie when it came out, and I am a huge comic book movie fan. I am also a huge fan of comic book stories that are rated R. And to me, this didn't even feel like your traditional comic book movie that we were used to at that time in the heyday of the Avengers, because we also got Endgame that year. It felt completely different. It just, to me, was a really dark story about a person descending into madness that just happened to take place in Gotham, where Batman also lives. So this was the first five out of five I gave on this podcast, and I still stand by this one. I've only seen Joker, I would say, once, outside of the first time I watched it, because this was a movie that I felt that way after leaving the theater. It impacted me. I loved everything about it, and I didn't want to ruin that experience or take away from that by watching it again. I still believe that that is a perfect movie because it has everything that I want in a movie that dark, a movie that pushes the boundaries, a movie that is a really great character study on an individual that I feel is one of the most misunderstood villains of all time. So I still stand by that five out of five. But I do believe that that movie is not for everybody. And at this point, over almost seven years after that movie came out, it's obviously not going to have that same impact if you just sat down to watch it today. But to me, that movie is still perfect, even though Joker 2 kind of soured it just a little bit. But then in the next year, 2020, I awarded no 5 out of fives. It wasn't until almost the end of 2021 that my next five out of five came. And that was Spider man, no Way Home. If you think about where we were in the world at that time, where theaters had been struggling for over a year, this brought us out of that depression. This was that movie that saved cinema that year. It was such a unique theater experience that I felt something I've never felt in a theater when I watch that movie. And for that reason alone, that is a five out of five. There are very few theater experiences that feel that way, and most of them happen to come from Marvel movies, where it transcends the moviegoing experience for me, where it just becomes Almost a moment of my life where I think about some of the biggest things that have happened to me. From falling in love to going on great family vacations. All these core memories. That is what this movie became. Now, if you look at some of the filmmaking aspects and you go back and watch, some of the CGI isn't perfect. Some of the VFX that, the things surrounding how they made this movie, basically in a warehouse during COVID the VFX teams were under crazy, crazy deadlines. Are all those fun little details perfect? Maybe not. But to me, the experience of seeing this movie in theaters still keeps it a five out of five. Next up, in 2022, my third five out of five from the podcast was Black Panther Wakanda Forever. Again, a lot of emotion going into this one. With the passing of Chadwick Boseman, I felt like this movie was a moment in history where it was so therapeutic and again, kind of transcended just what a superhero movie is because it meant so much more. It was honoring his legacy. It felt like a funeral for Chadwick Boseman on screen, which is something that can't be replicated and hopefully is never replicated because it is deeply tragic. I love this movie. Of all the movies on this list, probably the only one I saw multiple times in theaters. I thought the action was great. I think where the movie left off really has me hype for whatever Ryan Coogler is cooking up right now. So I still stand by this one. And then in 2023 I gave out three. Maybe I got a little bit more lenient as the years went, and then I pulled back after this. But in 2023, I gave out five out of fives to Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Barbie. And the last movie I gave a five out of five to since this year was Godzilla minus one. I still love all those movies. I would put those in my top 10 movies of the 2000s. All fantastic in their own way. All completely different, I would say, from each other. And I think all those movies created moments. Maybe not as much Godzilla minus one, because when that one came out in theaters, I don't feel like a whole lot of people saw it. More people probably saw it when it went to Netflix. But Guardians of the Galaxy, I was so consumed with that movie in the two weeks following it. I think it is one of the best sci fi trilogies of all time. Barbie paired with Oppenheimer on the weekend it came out was again, a moment in pop culture history that we are not going to forget. And I think that movie is still perfect. It is one of those movies. I think we'll look back and think how did that movie get made when with all of these fantastic people a part of it and Godzilla minus one, I can't wait for the sequel coming out later this year. Those were my five out of fives for that year. And then in 2024 I gave out none. 2025. Last year some films got close, but I gave out none. And now in 2026, so far my only five out of five of the year is Project Hail Mary. So I do believe, although maybe thinking about it less, that a movie requires a lot of rewatch ability. But looking at all these five out of fives, I think they just have to hit really hard when I go see them in theaters for that first time. So it is still really hard for me to give out five out of fives. And in the seven years I've been doing this podcast, you can see that because I've only given out seven of them. So let's get into this viral list now From Reddit of 20 perfect movies with no bad parts and talking more about what I believe to be perfect films. And I think they are movies that have a high rewatch ability. A lot of these have seen second lives from broadcast television or maybe cable because you have the ability to just put these movies on and they can appease a lot of people. You can also hop into a perfect movie, I feel at almost any time, and you're in, you instantly get hooked. Maybe you don't know all the details of the story, but it has to be so enticing at any point of the movie that you are good to hop in and watch it from there till the end. So rewatch ability, they have to be movies that are so good that you would really have to fight and argue to find things that you don't like about them. And I think now as a society we have become overly critical. And I say that somebody who rips movies apart sometimes for what some people believe, at least on the Internet, no apparent reason, but there are movies where I'm just like, I just can't find anything that I that I hate about this movie. And I would really have to stretch some details to find something I didn't like. And that is where I end up giving 5 out of 5 if I realize I'm being unreasonable and being so overly critical that I feel is a five out of five. A lot of the list we're going to see here are movies that just stand the test of time and also movies that I believe that people would revolt if they ever decided to remake them because they are so perfect. Every shot is perfect. There's no extra scenes that you feel, ah, they could have cut that. There are no bad songs. So yes, everything is just perfect. No notes. So let's get into this list from Reddit. At number 20, they have jaws. That is the granddaddy of them all. If you do not like Jaws because of some technical reason, I guess maybe now the fact that it was made in 1975, a kid watching Jaws might find it to be a mid movie. But I think when it comes to the history of cinema and how much that movie changed the summer blockbuster, Jaws is a perfect movie. I'm also thinking about movies that whenever they have summer screenings where they just put a big screen out in the middle of a field and you can just have a bunch of people go gather and watch it and everybody loves it. That is another factor. And Jaws is one of those movies, especially whenever they do those screenings where they'll have people out on the lake and then everybody freaks out because it's kind of creepy to watch Jaws when you're floating in some body of water. So I'll think about gatherings too, because a lot of these movies are films that people didn't see in theaters. I never saw Jaws in theaters. A lot of people did not see Jaws in theaters. But I feel like that is a movie that is a lot of people's favorite of all time. So it is movies that have stood the test of time in that way and are continued to be taken in by the masses even though they are way past their theatrical dates. At number 19 is tremors. I love a pick like this because I think the average movie reviewer wouldn't say Tremors is one of the best movies of all time. But I don't think that means that. It doesn't mean these are the best movies of all time. It means that they are perfect for what they are. And Tremors is a movie that is perfect for what it is. It reminds me of a summer day where I had nothing to do and I would just scan the channels to try and watch something on free broadcast television. And you know what type of movies were there for me during those times? It was movies like Tremors. So I love that pick here. At number 18 is airplane from 1980, one of the greatest parody movies of all time, and is one of those you can hop into at any time and find something funny. I love that pick here as well. At number 17, stand by me from 1986. Oh, man, it hit me hard whenever they did the tribute to Rob Reiner, the director of Stand By Me. And you had all the actors from. Not only. Well, not every single actor from Stand By Me, but a bunch of actors from all of his films. And they're standing there on stage and they put all the posters to all of his movies behind them, and you realize how long his legacy is going to live on that. He created movies that in the best way, I feel, are bigger than Rob Reiner himself because they are the fabric of American filmmaking. Movies like Stand By Me, movies like When Harry Met Sally, SPINAL Tap, A Few Good Men, all of these that probably mean so many different things to so many different types of people. He created not only this movie on this list, but a vast list of perfect movies. So I love that one. At number 17, at number 16 is Shaun of the Dead, one of my favorite movies growing up. I remember buying it from a flea market in Dallas and watching this movie all the time. And I agree. That is when you put on for the very first time and you're like, what is this? I don't know what it is, but I love it. At number 15 is 12 Angry Men from 1957. I was forced to watch this movie in about seventh, or maybe it was eighth grade, but I remember being in junior high and thinking, I don't want to watch this movie at all. This old movie from the 50s, this is so boring. And. And I ended up loving it. So shout out to my social studies teacher. I think it was seventh or eighth grade. It was one of those years where you think everything is stupid. So appreciate all my teachers throughout my entire time in grade school for forcing movies, or at least at the time I thought were being forced upon me, but they were teaching me things when they weren't teaching me things by showing me these types of movies. 12 Angry Men being one of those. Although I don't know if that was one we should have watched in seventh or eighth grade. I don't know, maybe it was fine. Sometimes we got a little like, oh, man, they're letting us watch a PG13 movie. And every now and then the S or the F word would get thrown in there and you're like, oh, I didn't sign a permission slip for this. At number 14 is Goodfellows. That would have been on my list. That is one that even recently, I think when we were on vacation last year, that is one of my favorite things about going on vacation. For some reason, it's Just turning on normal cable. And Goodfellas was on, and it was the edited version that cuts out a lot of the violence and the swearing. But I caught it midway through, and I still love that movie so much. And the thing I love about cable is if you miss the start of a movie, and I know now they have technology where you can restart it, but if you miss the start of a movie, you know that later that night or the next day, and if you're on vacation, you're going to be able to watch it again, because that's how they program movies for some reason. They'll show it at all different times of day within a week or so. So I ended up the next day being able to watch some more Goodfellas. But that is a perfect movie. Next up on the list is Raiders of the lost ark from 1981. I am not the biggest Indiana Jones fan when it comes to Harrison Ford. I want to see him in Star wars or maybe Blade Runner. But I still believe that that movie has stood the test of time. Whenever the last Indiana Jones movie came out, I did a rewatch of all those movies. Those still hold up. Those are classics and movies that you can put on at any time and just get instantly sucked back into that world. At number 12 is Galaxy Quest from 1999. I think I need to revisit this movie because I remember watching it back when it came out, and I didn't think two things about it. But I have been seeing this movie more and more on people's lists of their favorite movies of all time. And to this be considered a perfect movie, that tells me I need to go back and give this movie a second chance. So that is one I'm going to revisit. At number 11 is Back to the Future from 1985. If aliens came down, which they might sometime soon, maybe this year, who knows? I think they're soft launching Aliens, and they have been for a while. But if aliens came down or maybe came up from the ocean and said, show me your best movie, because I don't know what a movie is. I'm an alien. I've never seen a movie. I would show them Back to the Future because I believe that has everything you need out of a movie. It has a love story, sometimes a creepy love story when he is kind of in a relationship with mom, that whole weird scenario. But it has a love story. It has sci fi, it has action. It has a DeLorean. It has people going back to the future. It has a musical number and a Crazy old scientist. Everything you want about the movie going or movie watching experience, you can find it in Back to the Future. That is a perfect movie. At number 10 is office space from 1999. And again, a movie doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles to be a perfect movie. Office Space is one of those comedies that there are no crazy aspects to that movie. It is just good writing, good comedic timing, a great cast that if you took away all the parts of that cast probably couldn't carry a movie on their own. But the story is so great and everybody in that movie together collectively makes it a classic and makes it a perfect movie. Getting into the top 10 here, further in, there are some heavy hitters here. The Shawshank Redemption. Tell me one bad thing about the Shawshank Redemption. There isn't one that is a perfect movie. The thing from 1982. This was a movie that my brother showed me. It is one of his favorite movies of all time. He grew up in the 80s. He is more a fan of the movies that I felt were just a little bit before my time. But he turned me on to the thing and I do believe that is a perfect movie. Continuing the theme with 80s movies and also Rob Reiner, the Princess Bride made it in at number seven. At number six is Matilda. Another movie on my most recent vacation last summer. I'm talking like I just went on vacation, but last summer in Scottsdale, in the heat of the desert, I could have gone out to the pool. I. I could have went to hike a mountain. But you know what I ended up doing? One afternoon I watched Matilda. I don't even think it was on normal cable. I think I was just scanning Netflix and I watched Matilda and I still love that movie. That is a perfect film. One of my favorite movies of my childhood too. Speaking of my childhood, at number five is the Incredibles. I didn't realize how good this movie was when it first came out in 2004. I was 13 years old and I just thought every animated movie is getting so much better now. It was one of my favorite movies when it came out. And looking back on the last 20 years of Pixar movies, we did not know how good we had it. It wasn't until Hoppers just a couple of weeks ago that I realized, man, they just don't make them like they used to. But the Incredibles is such a great franchise and that first movie hit so hard. That is a perfect movie. The Emperor's New Groove at number four. I watched this movie so Much growing up in school. It was in the heyday of DVDs. And I also feel not only is a perfect movie, but also an underrated Disney movie where I feel it is a little bit millennial coded, given the time it came out. How we all grew up with this movie, I don't believe it was the biggest Disney movie when it first came out. And when you stack it up against all the other Disney films, probably doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. But I think over time from people like me who grew up with it and now have this nostalgic factor attached to it, has kind of built up a cult following, much like a Goofy movie did from the 90s. I feel like the Emperor's new groove is that of the 2000s. That is a perfect movie. At number three is My Cousin Vinny, which was another movie I hadn't watched until my brother convinced me to watch it, and I'm glad he did. I don't know if it's perfect, though. I think I would maybe feel that way more if I watched it back when it came out in the 90s. But it is a really good movie. At number two, Mean Girls from 2004. I recently gave this movie a lot of praise, how the last time Kelsey and I went to an outdoor movie showing here in Nashville, where we just go to a park and they blow up a big inflatable screen and a bunch of people watch a movie. When we went to go watch Mean Girls last summer, I realized how good and how timeless this movie is, how sharp the writing is, how there are so many memeable moments from the story. It is probably one of the best written movies of all time. And there's not one scene or one joke or one moment you could cut out of it. It is perfect from start to finish. I think one of the best movies of the 21st century. Mean Girls is a perfect movie. And at Number one from 1979 is alien. I think this is another one I kind of have to revisit again because I started to get back into the Alien movies after I went to go watch Alien Romulus in theaters probably a couple of years ago. Now I'm also getting back into Predator after loving Predator Badlands last year. And all these movies kind of exist in that same world. They feel like they have kind of the same DNA to me, but it didn't really impact me like it did a lot of people who grew up with this movie. I think to me this is probably the effect that Child's Play had on me. When I was a kid, I watched that movie. It instantly terrified me and I've now stuck with that franchise for so long. I think to people who grew up in the late 70s, early 80s and this was that for them where it scared them as a kid. I love Sigourney Weaver. She's still referencing that movie. She actually got in a reference recently at the Oscars. But the number one perfect movie, least according to Reddit and is Alien. Now what I have are five movies that I want to go back retroactively and give out five out of fives to. If I had this podcast back when these movies came out and I went to go see them in theaters and then did a review on them, I will go back and give them five out of fives. First up, we're gonna go Back to the 1930s, 1939, the wizard of Oz. This movie is perfect. It is timeless. It has that iconic transition from black and white to color, has an incredible musical score and Songs over the Rainbow is one of the best songs in a movie of all time. It is also one of the most influential films in history. I would say the first majorly noteworthy movie ever created in America was the wizard of Oz and since then has been never replicated. I don't think this is a movie you could fully remake. There are spin offs, there are different versions of it. I rewatched it most recently after Wicked for Good on HBO Max and the movie still holds up with all of the restoration they have done. I would still love to go see this movie at Sphere in Vegas. It resonates across generations. It is memorable, it is quotable. It is a perfect movie. Going back and I'm giving a five out of five to the wizard of Oz. We'll go all the way to the 90s now. A five out of five to me is the Truman show. And I can only imagine if I went to go see this movie in the 90s when it came out, I would have had my mind blown. This concept was at that time one of the most novel things that ever came out. They couldn't make this movie now because sadly, it wouldn't be as a crazy thing if somebody had their entire life broadcast because now it has become the norm. You could probably go on YouTube right now. I actually know of one guy doing this who is broadcasting every single day of his life locked in a room. And not only is it not capturing the attention of the entire world like it does in the Truman show, it's not even capturing the attention of of everybody in America. I'm sure he's getting good views and he got a lot of attention whenever he first started doing it. Maybe it would be a little bit different if they did it like they did in the Truman show, where they create a fake town and the person they are filming has no idea. But you kind of have versions of this in reality shows with Jury Duty is kind of a version of that Joe Schmo show back in the early 2000s, kind of a version of that. But if you made a movie about it now, it wouldn't be as crazy. So it also exists as this perfect moment in history before technology, I don't want to say ruined our lives, but before technology changed how we think about attention, how much we put out into the public, how much we keep private. This movie is perfect. I rewatch it at least try to at least once a year. The Truman show is a 5 out of 5. The Dark Knight from 2008, another movie I rewatch at least once a year, is a five out of five. From the best opening scene in movie history. To me, when I first saw this in theaters, it blew my mind. I could just watch that opening scene because it is a film within itself. It tells a story from beginning to end. How beautifully that opening is orchestrated and how much was thought out and how it fits in so perfect. From the robbery to the escape, all that. The reveal of Joker's face for the first time in that opening scene is fantastic. And everything that happens throughout, there's not one moment I would take away from it. The Dark Knight, a five out of five at number four. I'm going to go with Shrek. Shrek from 2001 is a perfect movie. The anti Disney fairy tale geared towards kids. And I think that is why maybe at the time or even when people look back at this movie, you think a children's film, really. But even though it is geared towards kids, it has a lot of adult humor. And I think it really changed back in 2001 how we viewed, quote, unquote, kids films where it pushed the boundaries so much that yes, maybe the youngest kid, it would go right over their heads, but the adults were like, wait a minute, did they just almost say the a word? Did they just kind of make an innuendo joke? And it created this environment where parents didn't hate going to the movies with their kids because they got a little bit something out of it too. But just because it is a film intended for children, the voice acting goes on an entirely different level. That is so Captivating and so moving. Where there's a really great story here and really great performances in Shrek and in Fiona and Eddie Murphy as Donkey, where the storytelling aspect is so high on another level than just a normal animated film needs to go. It has so many pop culture references. Those voices have become iconic. We're getting another one of them. A memorable soundtrack. Back when if you had a song in a movie, it could elevate your career as an artist or as a band. It is one of the most important movies of the 2000s. My fourth retroactive five out of five goes to Shrek number five. I was only going to do five, but I have so many here. Ugh. I might have to go with the Granddaddy, which I say that a lot. I don't know why I'm getting into the habit of saying the granddaddy of them all, but I think one of the most perfect films of all time, even though I wouldn't necessarily put that in my favorite movies of all time, but I think the overall most perfect film ever made is Forrest Gump. I think the storytelling in Forrest Gumption, it doesn't even feel like one movie to me. I know Robert Zemeckis directed it, but it doesn't feel like one person executed this film because it feels like, to me, this movie just always existed. It was always perfect. It just came from the heavens and came down. And here, let me hand you this perfect piece of cinema because it blends comedy, romance, a lot of drama. I think sometimes we forget how dark this movie gets at times. Themes of love and kindness through this nostalgic journey. Perfectly shot, perfectly executed. If you look into all the lengths they had to go to even get this movie made and get it off the ground also made Tom Hanks a lot of money. Again, I would not put this movie as one of my favorites in my top 10, in my top 20, maybe in my top 50. But I think what this movie represents is a perfectly executed vision, a perfect cast, and one that I feel out of anything we've talked about here is the most timeless, even though it is set and pulls from all these different moments from history. But I think the most perfect film of all time that I would go back and give a five out of five to is Forrest Gump. There's nothing I take out of it. There are a lot of other movies I considered. No country for Old Man I almost put on my list, but I would put that in my top films of all time, so maybe that's more perfect to me. Elf I do believe is the most perfect Christmas movie ever made. More so, yes, than Home Alone, than any of your favorite Christmas movies. I think Elf is the most timeless. National Treasure was one I almost put on this list. I love Nicolas Cage. That movie got me excited about learning about history. And I think of all the movies that I've just randomly watched time and time again, that you might be surprised by, it is National Treasure. To me, that is a perfect movie. The Day After Tomorrow. Within those same lines is one that I know it's not the best movie ever made and to other people is just some random disaster movie from the 2000s. But to me, the Day After Tomorrow is a perfect film and one I feel passes the cable TV test. Where there are a lot of movies that I feel their legacy has been built up from. Rebroadcast and the Day After Tomorrow, I just associate it with it being on maybe FX or USA all the time. But that is a movie that Kelsey and I have bonded over. To me, that is a perfect film. I'd also put movies like A League of Their Own, Independence Day, which also just gets thrown over TV all the time around the 4th of July. Con Air, I think is perfect. Jumanji, I think is perfect. One of my favorite movies from my childhood. And then I did want to throw in some longer runtime movies that I believe are perfect. Scarface from 1983, 2 hours and 45 minutes and not one minute I would cut out in Titanic, 3 hours and 15 minutes. But that movie feels like a little piece of history. I know, not entirely historically accurate. But you have love. You also have part disaster movie, which the third act, to me, it does become my favorite genre, a disaster movie. Even with that runtime, it doesn't feel like it's, oh, man, get on with it. But I think the issue some people probably have is the ending. And people will change that. So maybe to some not a perfect movie. And another rapid fire list of perfect films, I would say the Lion King, the Goonies, Hocus Pocus, Boys in the Hood, Jurassic Park, I wanted to throw some more sports movies in there. Major League I think is perfect. The Sandlot, I think is perfect. Twister, obviously one of my favorite movies of all time, I think is perfect. More so than Toy Story 1. I think Toy Story 3 is the more perfect of the entire franchise. And Star Wars, A New Hope. I don't care what you say. To me, that is a perfect film. So that is the list if you want to let me know what movie you think is perfect. And should have been included on this episode. Hit me up moviemikedmail.com or@mikedistro on all socials. I'll come back and give my spoiler free review of Ready or Not two.

Movie Mike
Let's get into it now. A split Spoiler Free Movie Review of ready or not 2 one of my most anticipated horror movies of the year. Samara Weaving is back. The scream Queen herself. The 2019 movie, I believe is one of the most underrated horror movies of our generation. She is the scream queen, my go to actor I want to see in a horror movie. And if you haven't seen part one, the good thing about Part two is it is a pretty good job of restating everything that happened in the first one because it has been almost seven years now and they were able to do it in a way that didn't feel forced in because in this movie Tamara Weaving's sister comes into play and the story picks up literally right where the last movie leaves off. So I guess if you haven't seen the first one just by knowing this movie exists is a bit of a spoiler. What the story is about is in the first movie Samara Weaving's character gets married and then she finds out about this odd ritual that her in laws have where they have to draw some cards to play a game. She draws the hide and seek card and it turns out she has to hide until dawn and be able to survive not being killed until that time comes in order to marry into this family. It gets crazy. A lot of people die, but this movie picks up right at the last frame of that movie. She is covered in blood in her wedding dress, the medics have arrived, she's going into shock, she collapses, gets taken to the hospital. That's where her estranged sister comes into play. They haven't talked in probably over seven years. And now somehow she gets sucked back into playing the game again in what Elijah Wood's character describes as double or nothing. And I was a little bit worried about that because I knew that the formula worked in the first one. But I thought, how are they going to make this happen again? And it not feel forced and not feel cheesy. But for me, they were able to build a backstory that I bought into. It gave them a reason to play the game by building out the lore of this crazy family dynamic that you really only scratch the surface on in the first movie. Because this one goes way, way into why this family exists, all the powers that be in the world that were connected to this. Because you realize in that first movie that this was so much bigger than just that one big family. So now you have all these other people coming from across the world to play this game and she gets sucked back into it again. So even though it is the same concept as the first movie, it doesn't feel super repetitive. I think this one, the action is really ramped up a lot more where it's a little bit bloodier, a little bit more violent. You see both her and her sister at their lowest. It gets crazy. There is also a great amount of comedy, which I think in my theater I felt more of a connection to everybody in the room as people were laughing at different things, which made it feel like a good time. This is the truly unique in theater experience where it is very bloody, it is very intense. You do feel that anxiety and that worry for both of their characters trying to survive. But there is a lot of levity throughout where there were moments where some of the characters, chasing them down, did some pretty ridiculous things that made it fun. And I think overall it's just that nature of it being a game that makes the movie so entertaining that I almost believe they could keep doing this movie over and over again. Because the game itself is fun to watch, it's entertaining in itself. But overall I had a really great time from beginning to end in about the hour and 43 minute run time. Samara Weaving, the reigning Scream Queen. I was first introduced to her back when she was in Nine Perfect Strangers. But she was also recently in a movie directed by her husband called Borderline. She was in the opening scene of Scream 6. You also might recognize her from one of my favorite hidden gems on Amazon, the Valet with Eugenio de Rez who is one of my favorite actors because he's my mom's favorite actor. If you go into it expecting to have the acting quality and plot line of like, a Schindler's List, you're going to have a bad time. But sometimes you just need a great, fun comedy about a guy parking cars who kind of looks like me. Katherine Newton. You might recognize her From Ant Man 3. Quantumania. She was also in a pretty good horror movie called Freaky with Vince Vaughn. Earlier in her career, she was also in Big Little Lies and Detective Pikachu. And I have to say, their dynamic as sisters was so good. And I think that's what made this movie really work, is it wasn't just about this crazy game. It was about them repairing their relationship, going from not speaking in years and then learning how to work together as they are trying to fight off all these people trying to kill them both because they are competing to outrun four rival families from taking this throne. And they have to work together a lot. They have to take a lot of risks, and they have to learn to trust each other again after their relationship was broken. So even though on the surface this is a movie about a satanic cult pitting people against each other to take a throne, but at its core, it is a story about sisters. And I think anytime there is a movie that has a complicated sibling dynamic, some reason I'm just drawn to it. Even though I'm really close with both my brother and my sister, I just know that bond and how strong it is and how much I value it in my life. So to see somebody not have that, but then be kind of forced to work together suddenly, I think that is what made this movie really work. That even if you don't like all the intense blood and gore and people using all these crazy medieval weapons, guns and fire, and all the things, some really bizarre kills in this movie. If you could just grasp onto one thing, it is a story about sisters learning to be sisters again. And then you have some other really great standouts in the cast. Sarah Michelle Geller blew me away in this, and I feel like off screen, she is a really sweet person. On their press tour, seeing her and Elijah Wood bond and seeing her return to the big screen just feels right. But going from feeling good about her off screen as just a person to not enjoying her character whatsoever, I was like, she's just really good at her job because she gets that emotion out of you. And the movie is directed by the original filmmakers of Part one, Matt and Tyler, who Make up a collective group called Radio Silence. They also directed Scream 5 and 6. So have been delivering some really great standout horror movies. I mean, if they would have directed the last Scream movie, it would have been a much different time. But they were too busy with this. And I think they did a really good job at giving us more of what the first movie was lacking. But the only thing that kind of kept me from fully loving this as much as I was anticipating it, but I believe that the story became so huge that it was going to be really hard to land the plane. You had all these added twists and turns that really made the story much bigger in the second movie than in the first one. But it almost became so big that I thought, I don't know how any resolution is going to be satisfying. But aside from that, I still think it was a really great time. But what I do think they have accomplished with Ready or Not 2 is giving us a new horror icon to grace. Played by Samara Weaving the iconic dress soaked in blood. I really enjoyed how they got her back into the dress. It didn't feel forced or cheesy. The yellow Chuck Taylor's also drenched in blood. That is a new iconic horror look. One of the best of the 2020s. The two other horror icons I would put on this list would be Art the Clown from the Terrifier movies and Megan, of course, from the M3GAN movies. So I think that is what has me excited about this franchise and is we've been in a drought when it comes to finding these new horror icons. Where the big OGs have kind of been there for a long time with your Jason's, your Freddy's, your Michael Myers and your Chucky's. Now we have some new fresh blood, no pun intended, which this movie has a lot of blood. And it is what I describe as a dark blood movie. Some movies go the more playful route with the brighter red blood that's a little bit more kind of water based in this one. There are so many explosions of people just combusting and this blood goes everywhere. I think it is the best running gag in this movie where if ever you see our main characters not drenched in blood, you know a bloodbath is coming right around the corner. So this one is a dark blood movie. And I love seeing all those visuals of the fresh blood, but also as it dries on them and it gets kind of crusty and. And just covers their face in their clothes. That was something that really stood out about this movie. Give me a bloodbath and make it look big, bold and dark. So overall for Ready or Not to a great in theater experience. It delivered in ways I wasn't expecting. Gave us more of what I wanted from the first one. But I still think part one is a little bit more iconic. The story was a little bit more novel when we were just beginning the games and it kind of came out of nowhere. This one just kind of has to suck you back in and give you another reason to play the game. So for Ready or Not two, I give it four out of five blood soaked wedding dresses.

to Movie Mike's Trailer Park. All right, here we are. I am about to blind react to the Spider Man Brand New Day trailer. At the time of recording this, it dropped on YouTube 5 hours ago sitting at about 2.2 million views. I've not seen anything aside from what came out the day before where they were just teasing us, giving us little one second things. They had people from all over the world hyping up this trailer. I think this movie is going to be massive. I am also saying this as the biggest Spider man fan. He is my favorite superhero. I have a tattoo on my right arm of Spider man from my favorite comic book cover drawn by my favorite comic book artist, Tom McFarland. The movie is coming out in theaters on July 31st. All right, let's waste no more time. Let's blind react to the Spider Man Brand New Day trailer hitting play now for the first time. Here we go. I can't believe our first hit. MIT suit looks good. And the only way to stop it was to make everyone forget about me. Ain't Ned looking dark. Because I'm not just Peter Parker. I'm Spider Villain. The hell you just hit me with? A van? With your weapon? Suit yourself. What's up, Spidey? Let me tell you something. Mother, go home. That's going to be so good. Sometimes Spider man has to do the hard thing. Even if it breaks Peter Parker's heart. No. What is happening to me? Oh, no. Oh, dang. And Tom Holland ripped. Excuse me, Dr. Banner. I need your help. Bruce. What'd you say your name was? Give me the Hulk. If DNA is mutating, it would be enormously dangerous. Give me Hulk versus Spidey, please. Spiders have three life cycles. I forgot about that when between cycles. God, the action looks so good. Spider vulnerable to threats. We are faced with a danger that we can't control.

Movie Mike
Come on. July 31st. Gosh, this looks so good. Way more sophisticated than I was expecting. And that is what I'm talking about. That is the Spider man film we have needed. I cannot wait for this. I need a time machine so I can go to July 31st right now to see this immediately. Let me give some predictions of what I think is going to happen here. I think there has to be some way that MJ ends up remembering Peter Parker. We got a little hint there. What we heard was her basically saying, ah, friendly neighbor. And he's like, oh, it's funny you should say that. Say that again. I think there has to be something there. Maybe we get Dr. Strange back and he messes with the spell again and gets some people to remember him. Because that part of seeing MJ talking to another dude and Peter just being there, having to witness that, that makes it hurt. And then the way they have Ned portrayed in this trailer where, like I said, he looks a little bit darker, a little bit more serious. He has the glasses and the hair is a little bit longer. He doesn't look like fun, lovable Ned. I have to imagine he could turn into a villain. We've been teasing it a little bit here and there. Could he turn into the hobgoblin? Could they go Doc Ock? Some weird way of making him Doc Ock. I don't think that's the route they're going to go, but I think it was the wardrobe that kind of gives me Alfred Molina in Spider Man 2 vibes. Don't think that's the direction they're going to go, but I have to imagine something is gonna happen with Ned. I gotta say, I love seeing Spider man depressed. It is an emotion we haven't really seen from this character on the big screen because he has gone through so much. And the way to Spider Man I feel like didn't really weigh on him until no Way Home and now he is feeling the effects of that. He looks like he is so down throughout this entire trailer that I feel like there's going to be a lot of rage inside of him. That scene with Bruce Banner and Peter Parker together is something out of my dreams. I want to see either them fight as Spider man and the Hulk or them team up in some way. Because I think that is something as comic book fans we have been owed to for a very long time. Jon Bernthal in this looks incredible as the Punisher. I think now that he is going to be on the big screen and take the leap from his own original Netflix show, moving over to the Daredevil version on Disney plus and now people getting to see how great he is at that character. I love the way that John Berthal as the Punisher, Frank Castle treats Daredevil in that series where he gives him a lot of crap. I think them together with that dynamic with Spider Man I think is going to be something that is really great and fun to watch. Seeing him rip through people like he does be unapologetic in a very Jon Bernthal way, I think is something that's going to add another edge to this story, which is something I'm the most excited about. Seeing some grit to this character because for the longest time Spider man, obviously, since I was a kid, was always geared towards a younger audience where they kept it very light. He's very sarcastic, quick witted. That is what people love about Spidey. He is often portrayed as a high schooler. And seeing him now out of high school and dealing with some real world problems, going through some things emotionally, I love seeing the grit here because I think throughout the comics, at least, my favorite stories, especially now seeing what they have done with Ultimate Spider man of a much older, well, not much older, but like in his 30s with a family Spider Man. That comic book run which just ended is fantastic. I've always wanted to see something that isn't high school Spider man. Real problems. And that is what we are getting here. I think overall it just looks so good. The reds are really rich in the suit. I love the mask upgrades. It looks a little bit less nanotech, even though it still kind of has that vibe. But I think we've gotten away from that first suit that Iron man gave him. It looks so much more sophisticated to me. The action itself looks really slick. I love the scene of him jumping down from the building and it goes into that close up shot of his eye and he's almost emotional, which you. You see a lot of just blank stares from Spider Man. I cannot wait to see how the villains really come out in this story. And some things I would like to see. Maybe we get a Tobey Maguire appearance. Maybe we get an Andrew Garfield because we just saw them in the last movie and that is where this story is picking up from. Maybe it's a small little cameo, some kind of connection. So maybe we get a little Tobey Maguire Spider Man. We know Andrew Garfield. Seeing him broken, tired and alone. Those guys would be the ones to go to for advice because all the things they kind of poured out to him in no way home. He now has somebody that he can identify with that he can go to for advice because they are the only ones who have also been through it, have experienced this loss, have experienced having loved ones be taken away from. You had to fight until you were bloody and broken. Maybe they come back and give him a little bit of advice when he really needs it. And then you got to wonder, how does this lead into doomsday? Because Mark Ruffalo is not going to be a part of that movie. So maybe his story ends here. I cannot wait to go see this movie. This trailer really lived up to my expectations. I will spend the next week or so consuming more theories, but I wanted to give you guys my honest, true reaction to it. And there it is. Spider Man, Brand New Day comes out in theaters on July 31st. And that was this week's edition of Movie Mike's Trailer Park. And that is going to do it for another episode here of the podcast. But before I go, I got to give my listeners shout out of the week. Definition of “Perfect Movie”:
Subjectivity of Perfection:
| Year | Movie | Reasoning / Memorable Quote | |---------------|--------------------------------|--------------------------------------------| | 2019 | Joker | “This didn’t even feel like your traditional comic book movie...a really dark story about a person descending into madness.” (04:31) | | 2021 | Spider-Man: No Way Home | “This was that movie that saved cinema that year.” (06:16) | | 2022 | Black Panther: Wakanda Forever | “It felt like a funeral for Chadwick Boseman on screen.” (07:29) | | 2023 | Guardians of the Galaxy 3 | “One of the best sci-fi trilogies of all time.” (08:36) | | 2023 | Barbie | “A moment in pop culture history...I think that movie is still perfect.” (09:05) | | 2023 | Godzilla Minus One | “All fantastic in their own way. All completely different.” (09:20) | | 2026 | Project Hail Mary | “That theater experience, the expectations I had from reading the book, it was perfect.” (03:20) |
Mike dives into a Reddit thread of 20 movies considered “perfect,” mixing popular blockbusters with cult favorites. He reacts to each, blending nostalgia and film analysis, emphasizing why certain films become staples in pop culture memory.
