Then I played pickleball for an hour and a half or so and then my ankle. I just don't even think about it unless I think about thinking about it. And so I Think I'm back from my injury. I used to think three times there, but I have to layer it like that and I want to jinx it. But I had ankle surgery in November. Doctor said it'd be six months or so before I felt fully comfortable. I think I'm back. I might be ready to get in a tournament. I'm not good enough yet because I've lost six months of training time.

Yeah.

[Bobby]

And also deterioration of my body just with aging and gravity and how gravity pushes our bodies down as we get older. So did that.

[Amy]

So you, you are gonna maybe sign up for something or you're not?

[Bobby]

I think so. I'm on these stupid mailing lists for some of these pickleball tournaments. So the next one that comes through town, I think I might jump in a tournament.

[Amy]

Even though you don't think you're ready?

[Bobby]

Correct. There's no way to get ready except for getting ready and just dunking yourself in. So. Had a pretty good day yesterday. That's all. That's my day. You?

[Amy]

I had a great day yesterday and I was one of the lucky people in my neighborhood that didn't lose power.

[Bobby]

Why would happen?

[Amy]

I have no idea. The weather was good.

[Bobby]

Drive into a transformer or something, I don't know.

[Amy]

But my phone started blowing up and there was this whole text thread about, did you lose power? Did you lose power? And I don't even know who some of these people are, but they're like, oh, yeah, I didn't know I lost power. But then my generator kicked on and then I was like, oh, I wonder where this person lives. Make mental note has generator.

[Bobby]

So you're in a text drive with people, you don't know where they live?

[Amy]

Well, they're just. Yeah, they're in my neighborhood. It's a neighborhood group text.

[Bobby]

So does everybody have your number?

[Amy]

Everybody in that thread? Yeah.

[Eddie]

Well, that's strange.

[Amy]

It's all women.

[Bobby]

Women murder too.

[Amy]

Okay. But they all live in my neighborhood. It's a. It's a way.

[Bobby]

Oh, you have a non murdering neighborhood.

[Kim]

Yeah, there's no.

[Bobby]

I need one of those neighborhoods.

[Amy]

And it just. We all help each other out, you know, if there's something like, oh, hey, I just saw this dog. Anybody know whose dog it is? Or hey, my dog just got out. Or hey, does anybody have a babysitter for this right now? Or hey, that's great. This one girl was like, my daughter's making lemon pies and people are like, I'll buy some.

[Bobby]

I mean, that actually sounds pretty fun. I just Would be annoyed at it always going off.

[Amy]

Yeah, it's. It's fine. It was. But by going off yesterday, it was bumping and I was like, what is going on? And that's when I realized that I guess the power had gone out, but my house wasn't impacted. But I don't know what would have caused it because weather wasn't bad yesterday or anything. But it did get me curious of trying to go through all the text and make note of. Yeah, the generator people, just in case.

[Bobby]

Well, we have a big one now too.

[Amy]

Oh, you got it.

[Bobby]

Yeah.

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

We had a massive ice storm last year that crippled the city unlike anything I've ever seen. And you can say, well, we live somewhere cold and I agree that it's probably very cold, but you guys have the infrastructure. If it's always cold there, you have the infrastructure to salt your streets and to make sure your power lines aren't below trees. You here maybe once a year. And I've never seen anything in my life like the storm that we had last year. And I've been in tornadoes, I've been in big snowstorms and ice storms, all that. But to me, craziest storm I've ever seen for you guys.

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Eddie]

Yeah, it was crazy.

[Bobby]

So the whole. Some people lost power for a month, people were dying. All that to be said a week before the storm. We actually bought a generator, not knowing the storm was coming, but we actually bought one because my wife is pregnant. And I thought, well, if power goes out for. In the summer, for some weird reasons, like you said, it just goes out winter, we get about a day or two of snow that it goes out. I'm going to be ready. We order it. Big ice storm hits. We don't have it because they said it's going to take a couple months to get. So the irony. We already paid for one, ordered one, don't have one. So we're like free. My pregnant wife's freezing. We're like huddled up on the fireplace. We're pilgrims. And so we end up going and living in the studio that we shoot the Bobby cast from. And so we're in there for a couple days and finally after the ice storm is fixed and they cut down trees, all the power gets back up after a while. We got our generator. It's a massive generator. It's so big because it's a full property generator, we had to order trees to go around it because it's so large and ugly. Oh, to cover it because it looks like just a city generator.

[Eddie]

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[Bobby]

And so we had to pay $12,000 for trees. Well, you chose for trees.

[Amy]

You chose to. To cover it.

[Eddie]

Trees which are supposed to be free.

[Bobby]

Yeah, free trees. But it was also bringing them a planting. Yeah, that was it.

[Amy]

Mature trees.

[Eddie]

That's it.

[Bobby]

But we have one.

[Amy]

My brother in law has always said trees are good added value. So you're all good.

[Bobby]

So you lose power, you come. Just stay at our house.

[Eddie]

Have you used it yet?

[Bobby]

Yeah, it did fall out a few weeks ago for like an hour and we didn't even know and it just kicked on.

[Eddie]

Oh, yeah. I was gonna ask you that because

[Bobby]

I have very limited generator knowledge. I did. Now I have medium generator knowledge because I thought, okay, I guess if we need it, we go out and we, we pull it like an Evinrude. And with them, because we had small generators growing up that you use out if we're camping or whatever. But it. Why it takes so long to install is they have to dig it and dig up your yard and put it into the gas line. So as soon as it goes out, it triggers and it's all run through the gas line. So it powers it all through gas now instead of electricity.

[Eddie]

Makes sense.

[Bobby]

Yeah. Pretty crazy. But we have one if you need it.

[Amy]

Well, if I need to come over. Yeah, yeah.

[Bobby]

I'm not cloning your engine.

[Amy]

Well, I know I can't.

[Bobby]

It looks like a bus. It looks like a bus?

[Amy]

Yeah. It's that big a bus?

[Bobby]

Maybe not quite as long, but three quarters of that. Yeah.

[Amy]

Wow. I guess you did say whole home or whole property.

[Bobby]

Because they said, well, what do you need it for? I said, well, heat and electricity. And they said, okay, you want like a couple rooms? I said, well, if like the S hits the fan, I gotta do the show and I can't get out, so I need the studio and property too. And they said, well, you'll need what we call a whole home.

[Eddie]

Okay.

[Bobby]

What is that, 20 bucks extra?

[Amy]

No, that's way more.

[Eddie]

I don't think so.

[Bobby]

20 bucks. So, yeah, we got one. Okay. Tell me something good, Eddie.

[Eddie]

Yeah. So I was driving the boys to a basketball game yesterday and it was just quiet in the back, you know. And I was like, this is strange. They're usually messing with each other, picking at each other, fighting. I look back there and you'll never believe what the three of the boys were doing in the back.

[Bobby]

Hugging, Sleeping.

[Eddie]

They were reading.

[Kim]

Oh.

[Eddie]

And I'm like, this is crazy.

[Scuba]

Books.

[Kim]

Books.

[Eddie]

Apparently they went to the library, they all picked out books. And they like to read because I was worried, you know, I have the disease where, like, I don't read. I have dyslexia and dyscalculia, which is a scrambling of numbers. So I thought my kids were gonna have the same thing, but they love to read. They were enjoying their books. One of them's reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

[Bobby]

Great book for kids. Yeah, I think you would like it. You should read that.

[Eddie]

Oh, like, because it's beginner level.

[Amy]

Well, it's entertaining. Like, if there's a kid's book to read, like, that's one. If you read to them at night, like, that's a good one.

[Eddie]

Yeah, I'm not reading to my 11 year old or my 12 year old at night.

[Bobby]

You should read the Alchemist now.

[Eddie]

Yeah, that.

[Bobby]

The Four Agreements.

[Eddie]

Okay.

[Bobby]

It's much shorter. I know. You're not going to. You say we do this every month. We do the dance. I'll lead. Okay. You should read the Four Agreements. It's so short. You could read it. You won't read it in a day, but you can read it in a week.

[Eddie]

Okay.

[Bobby]

And I don't think your disease keeps you from reading. I do think there are different obstacles that you deal with, knowing that you have dyslexia. But you can read. Amy reads.

[Amy]

Yeah. So. But I can empathize with Eddie. On, I wasn't a big reader until I was an adult, because reading for me in high school, college, all of that was so difficult because I also am dyslexic, but didn't know it till I was an adult, like Eddie. And I was like, oh, this all makes sense. But I implemented certain tools, like Bobby was saying, that helped me, and now I'm all in. And it's great, and it's actually helped me. So I think you could get into it. You just need that foot in the door. Or maybe listen to the audio while you're reading and it can help you. And then turn off the audio and try to read like you're capable of reading.

[Eddie]

No, I can read, but you just don't want to. To give you guys an idea, it's

[Amy]

hard on the brain.

[Eddie]

After I read, like 10 pages, I. I'm exhausted.

[Amy]

Yes.

[Eddie]

Like, I need a nap.

[Amy]

Which that makes sense because your brain, our brains have to work overtime to figure out a page of words versus a neurotypical brain.

[Bobby]

But also, it would be like, if you worked out without working out in a long time, you're going to be exhausted if you do this average workout. Because you haven't worked yourself up to getting stronger and better at it.

[Eddie]

But I read. Like, I read news articles. Like, I don't read books. Like.

[Bobby]

But that's because you don't want to.

[Eddie]

Right? Right. I mean, to me it's just kind of like, am I gonna waste all that time to read books?

[Bobby]

It's not a waste of time. I promise you it's not a waste of time.

[Eddie]

But like, even when I watch movies, I put on the captions and I read. I read the captions more than I watch them.

[Bobby]

It's like saying you read Twitter.

[Kim]

There you go, man. You're reading.

[Bobby]

So if you were to read the four agreements, I need to find that book. Overall, it would take you two to three hours.

[Eddie]

That's what you call anti typical neuro. What'd you say?

[Amy]

Well, you're NER and you have a neurodivergent brain.

[Bobby]

See, but you could. No, no, no, no. She's not saying you read slow, but let's say read 15 minutes of time. You could do that. Two weeks, finish the book.

[Amy]

Oh, he's saying like you're saying two to three hours for a neuro. Like your brain. You could read it. Your brain or you could read it.

[Bobby]

And maybe the average person can read this book in two and two and a half hours.

[Amy]

But he's not average.

[Bobby]

But he's saying he gets so tired every 10 or 15 minutes. He's not saying he reads so much slower than everybody else. I'm saying you could read for 10 or 15 minutes and then just put it away.

[Eddie]

Which is probably what I would do.

[Bobby]

But you don't want to.

[Amy]

You should search up. How long does it take someone with dyslexia to read?

[Eddie]

Yeah, that could be months.

[Kim]

Oh my goodness.

[Amy]

No.

[Bobby]

Start on the back page, go backwards.

[Amy]

Backwards. Which is such a common misconception.

[Bobby]

Then you'll crush it. Go backwards.

[Eddie]

Yeah, but anyway, my point is like I'm just glad my kids aren't dealing with this. They're actually enjoying reading.

[Amy]

And are they Your both there. Okay, You're.

[Bobby]

If you're a slow rater, three hours. If you're neurodivergent, three hours total time.

[Amy]

Okay, there you go.

[Eddie]

Neurodivergent. That means I'm slow.

[Amy]

That's you. No, that means you have.

[Bobby]

Neuro means brain.

[Eddie]

And then divergent means slow. I'm slow brained. That's what you're saying.

[Amy]

That is not what it is.

[Eddie]

What is diversion. I really don't know what that means.

[Bobby]

Different.

[Eddie]

Oh great.

[Bobby]

Someone who Processes it different.

[Eddie]

So my brain is different.

[Kim]

Obviously it is, yes.

[Bobby]

But my brain's different.

[Eddie]

Right, but no one calls you neuro

[Bobby]

divergent, But I don't think that's a negative. That is.

[Eddie]

Oh, it's for sure.

[Amy]

Well, they definitely created words to help us feel better.

[Bobby]

Okay. But I'm saying.

[Eddie]

Yeah, before it was like, dummy, and

[Amy]

now it's like neurodivergent versus neurotypical.

[Bobby]

Some of the absolute most successful people are people that have neurodivergent adhd. Blind in one eye, because they have to figure out their backs, they commit, and they have to figure out a different way to do it. And that different way that they do it is often a way that's so different than anybody else has done it.

[Eddie]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

That allows them to be wildly successful.

[Amy]

You know, I do see posts like that, and. And this is what my brain does to me. And maybe this is negative self talk, but I'm like, okay. Or maybe the pendulum has swung so far to where everybody's saying that, and they're like, but I've learned about my dyslexia or my ADHD is, you know, just. It's my gift. It's my superpower.

[Bobby]

Punch them in the face.

[Amy]

And I have that, too. And I'm like. And I'm sure I've tried to say that as well, because I really want to believe it. But then I'm also like, if I could go back and have a brain that I could get through school a little bit easier, I would easily go back and take that. But then, you know, it could alter a little bit of who I am, and I don't want to lose who I am. But then I'm like, are we just. Did we just. Are we just saying this so that everybody feels better? Because I don't.

[Bobby]

I don't think it's. Everybody feels better. I think it's so Some people don't feel so ostracized.

[Amy]

Okay, well, I can give it. I can help if people need that, including me.

[Bobby]

And then also, I do believe, like, the spectrum has been widened.

[Amy]

So, yeah, the more they learn about the brain.

[Bobby]

Yes.

[Amy]

Yeah.

[Bobby]

So I think you have a lot more people that would just be, according to today's standards, a bit on the spectrum. I think I dabble with the edges sometimes, but according to 25, 30 years ago, I wouldn't. And, you know, they're like, so many more people have autism now. It's probably the toothpaste or vaccines. The reality is they have opened the spectrum up so much because there's more of an understanding of it. When the base gets wider to land on, it's easier to land on it. So when people are like, well, look, people that are neurodivergent or have autism or heaven, you can go through and insert any of these. It's so it's, it's, there's so many more people. It's probably cell phones. It's, there's more of an understanding of it. And again, the base, the pad is so much wider now that more people can land on it because there's more of an understanding of it. Well, I've really started to try to get off even on this show and I've mentioned it where we just try not to say research says because that can mean anything at all. So if we're gonna say somebody says, we say what it is. Because you can just make anything up at all. You can say science says, research says. And you can say research says people with a micro penis are better lovers. Research says who did that? Reason there's no right. So yeah, I feel you. Yeah, you could read all this to say, cool, your kids are reading.

[Eddie]

It's awesome that they're reading.

[Bobby]

Secondly, you could read too. You just don't want to.

[Amy]

I think if you were to get into it, you'd really enjoy it if

[Bobby]

you found a book that you loved, you would. You'd eat it up. It's hard to find a book you love because it's different than a movie. In that a movie, if you don't like the first 20 or 30 minutes, you can go, I give it 15 more minutes. And you only wasted 45 minutes of your day. If you get into a book and the first quarter of it isn't great, it sucks. And you're going, am I going to invest so much more time to see if this book is good or not? And sometimes they are. It's awesome.

[Eddie]

And it's really. It feels good to carry a book around. Like, I read McConaughey's book Lunchbox now.

[Kim]

No, People do look at you. They really do. You get more respect.

[Bobby]

You do.

[Eddie]

Like, it's just cool to be like, you're in a waiting room in a doctor's office. Like, what am I going to do? Read my book?

[Bobby]

So you're projecting. That is 100% projection. Because I don't think people look at you and think you're cooler. But you see people doing it and you think it's cool and think they're smarter or better than you.

[Eddie]

Correct.

[Bobby]

So you go, I bet they're better than me. So then when you hold a book, you go, I bet people think I'm better than them. That is pure projection, Eddie.

[Kim]

Like, you should do that on a plane. Like, you said it. Like, you get your own and you put it on the table, you know, whatever, the table, fold out table. And then I just go to sleep and just put it on the table so it looks like you. Yeah, I'm reading. But really I'm just there to sleep.

[Eddie]

Yeah, I've seen you do that.

[Bobby]

So that. That would be pure projection.

[Kim]

Yeah, but it looks cool. People are like, oh, man, that dude must, you know, read 50 pages, got tired and fell asleep. No, just put it there. Fall asleep.

[Eddie]

And it's also cool to say you read a book. Like, even in conversation, you know, just like, you know, I read a book the other day. Like, that just sounds awesome to you.

[Bobby]

Because it's cool when people say that to you because you're not reading. I'm not even book shaming. I think if you want to read, great. But you always talk about how you would like to, but you can't.

[Eddie]

Yeah, maybe because I can't. I want to, but if I could, probably wouldn't be a reader.

[Bobby]

This is what. This is what really gets under my skin.

Maybe we should have a book club.

No. Hey, sorry, Got busy. Got another appointment. Got hung up over at another job. Just never showed up. Didn't. Ah, so frustrating. It's like you finally get an appointment and you give you the window and you just sit there and sit there and as those minutes tick by and you get to the end of that two hour window, you come to the realization that you've been stood up. And I got stood up.

So what do you do next?

[Kim]

I guess call a different Plumber don't want to call the same plumber and give him another chance. It's like, no, no. You missed your opportunity. I'm going to move my business to somewhere else, and I'll have to call another plumber today and try to get an appointment.

[Eddie]

What's wrong with your toilet? Did you say?

[Amy]

Well, shower.

[Kim]

It's a shower. So what happened is. I mean, this is a ongoing thing for over a year. The. The flood because of the hot water heater busted. Then I had foundation issues, so I had to rip out everything. And so I'm trying to put the shower and the bathroom back together. It's been a year and, like, three months since this happened.

[Eddie]

You're doing it.

[Kim]

No, but my. They, you know, had to put the rooms back together, the walls, all that. Now the bathroom is very close to being completed, but plumber didn't show to put in the faucets, so.

[Eddie]

[Kim]

Yeah. Can't. Can't do the tile until you get the plumbing.

[Eddie]

The plumbing.

[Kim]

Yeah. Plumbing Done. It's really frustrating.

It's just the same thing as Rummy. You're working on runs and sets. So I think once I'm done with it, this kid's version, I'll be able to play Rummy. So that's the cool thing.

This guy, Jaden, he just got his master's degree, and he was in an accident a couple of years ago that doesn't allow him to walk, but he really wanted to walk across the stage. So through a lot of therapy and working with a robot, he was able to walk across the stage. Get this. He now plans to go into real estate, and he wants to help other people with disabilities find the perfect house.
