Best bits of the week with Morgan.
Morgan
It's Listener Q and A Time, where.
Scuba Steve
Morgan and a show member answer almost all your questions.
Morgan
Listener Q and A time. What's up, scuba?
Scuba Steve
Hey, what's.
Morgan
I told him to raise his hand if he ever needed to go to the bathroom or unpause or anything. And you know what he does? He raises his hand right when I start.
Scuba Steve
You remember, like, when you were at school, you'd put your hand up and you see that one kid who's like, got his hand up and then he's sitting on his other hand, he's like, oh, oh, over here, over here. Oh, I know the answer. Oh, I have to go bathroom.
Morgan
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
Oh, yeah. I was a kid, if I had to go bathroom, I didn't even ask for it. I just. I have to go bathroom and I just would leave you.
Morgan
Just peace out.
Scuba Steve
Just peace out.
Morgan
Dang. I wasn't that rebellious. I thought I was pretty bad, but you take the cake.
Scuba Steve
I didn't care. And I had the respect of everyone as far as teachers go, so it was like, if I was going to the bathroom, I had to go to the bathroom, so whatever. Or they had. I had some kids who would go to the bathroom and they would have sex with some girl. That would happen a lot.
Morgan
That took a really dark. How old were you?
Scuba Steve
High school.
Morgan
Okay.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I remember these two.
Morgan
I thought you were thinking, like, middle school or something.
Scuba Steve
I was like, not high school.
Morgan
Okay. Okay.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, the bathrooms are pretty gross there. My high school, that's public school. You're a private school girl anyways.
Morgan
No, I was a public school.
Scuba Steve
Okay. None of that weird stuff happened to your privates or public school.
Morgan
I didn't spend a lot of time in the bathroom, if I'm being honest.
Scuba Steve
Okay, well, you knew when. When one kid had to go to the bathroom and then 10 seconds later another kid had to go to the bathroom, and then 10 seconds later, this girl had to go to the bathroom and they all came back together a little sweaty and messy. You knew what was going on in the bathroom.
Morgan
I don't think that was happening in our public restroom. Can't say that I recall that one. Okay. I love, love, love when Scuba is on. That's from Pebbles in Oregon. Pebbles, you know, Michelle and Apple Valley.
Scuba Steve
Apple Valley.
Morgan
She loves it. But she said my podcast with my boyfriend might have taken the cake.
Scuba Steve
Okay. Over you.
Morgan
I don't know though. She was in between. She's like. But it's up there with them. So.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. At least with mine there's consistency. You will get me at least every six.
Morgan
Yeah. You'll always get to hear from you.
Scuba Steve
Totally. Yeah.
Morgan
Yeah. Which boyfriend of mine might be a tour off and may never happen again.
Scuba Steve
Totally.
Morgan
Or it could happen all the time.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Or yeah, it becomes a co host like Mike and his wife.
Morgan
Who knows? What is your five year career plan, Amy in Mississippi?
Scuba Steve
Amy, I love that everyone is saying their name and where they are from.
Morgan
Yeah, they got you.
Scuba Steve
I appreciate that. This also kind of lets me know where everyone's at, geographically located and where they're listening from. My five year plan is to personally, professionally or both or just in general?
Morgan
I think in general.
Scuba Steve
Okay. Well, in general. Well, family obviously successful and everyone's good and they enjoy wherever they're at in school and life. My wife hopefully at that point could be either a stay at home mom or more of like a hybrid of less work and more helping out at the house. Which I think we're trying to balance that out at this moment because I'm working even more and she's still working. And then her. I mean, essentially being a mother is a full time job as well, because you're having to take him to school and pick him up and do all that stuff until I get home. Be nice for her, not have to have to work. Because right now we need the financial assistance of two paychecks. But it'd be great if they always say, what is it the 3070 rule or 7030 rule, where your bread and butter is something that pays your bills, but there's that 30% that you really enjoy. And one day a 30% becomes your 70%. Yeah, exactly. Or your 100%. So right now my 70% is this job working with Bobby and you guys, but my 30% is my own show. And eventually the goal is to flip that to where my own show supports me and my family. So I can just have the. I can have the one and then it makes enough money to where my wife can just focus on the kids and maybe have like a side gig or something that she just really enjoys to make extra money for vacations and stuff. So that's the long. That's the five year plan. The five year plan is to flip the 30 into 100.
Morgan
I love that for you. And you're on your way. You're headed that direction.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Went from nights to afternoons in less than two months. And then now after having afternoons now for a couple weeks, the goal is to then make afternoons into more markets and then syndicated and all the things. And rule the rule, the rock market.
Morgan
Are you gonna try and stay in the afternoon? Is that your plan?
Scuba Steve
I don't know.
Morgan
I just kind of open to what happens.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. I'm not married to any particular. I. I always. I obviously want either mornings or afternoon drive. Mornings a little bit more difficult now because we're a morning show. But afternoon drive, I wouldn't mind that either if it was a nationally syndicated afternoon show. So I'm not going to pigeonhole myself into one or the other. But yeah, I definitely want to do like a syndicated midday show or a night show. There's just not the cum there for it. No one's that many listening. Not a big listening audience. Not as interactive on the phones and stuff. So I need something in drive time. So I don't care. Either one's fine.
Morgan
Okay.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
Look at that. Amy, does HR ever get involved with the show? This is Carrie in El Paso, Texas.
Scuba Steve
I cannot say.
Morgan
I know. I saw that question and I was like, well, I don't really know that we can talk about that. But I mean, I think we're like any other job. HR's always part of the equation.
Scuba Steve
They've never gotten involved with personnel within the show, but they've gotten involved because of some crazy stuff that has happened with people outside the show that listen to the show that did something weird. Yeah, I'll just say that.
Morgan
Okay, I like it. That's a good answer. But we do have HR. Like, we do have actual HR. It's more correlated with iHeart, but that's still part of our company.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Back in the day, I don't know when you were working here if it was still a thing, but we used to have an HR person for every single cluster. We had one HR person.
Morgan
No, we did, too.
Scuba Steve
Okay, cool. And then it became where they. Now they have just the one or a small group based in San Antonio or wherever they live.
Morgan
And they're all online?
Scuba Steve
Yeah, they're online. Yeah. Yeah. I don't even know they're real.
Morgan
Zoom in.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, they even real. The AI. What the hell is it? But I know we had one back in the day. It was awesome. In Orlando. Her name was Fran. She was sick.
Morgan
Yeah, we had a really good one in Wichita, too, when I worked there. I remember that. Are you enjoying doing the rock show? This is from Mary in Kentucky.
Scuba Steve
Yes, Mary in Kentucky. I'm enjoying. And by the way, in Kentucky, this radio station that I'm on has such a massive stick where it bleeds all the way into. Because I feel that. Listen to Kentucky and I'm like, oh, you're on the iHeart app. Like, Jen in west Kentucky calls often. She listens on the actual physical terrestrial radio because the station bleeds that far north.
Morgan
That's crazy.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. So it goes all the way north into Kentucky, it goes south into Alabama and it goes all the way east, like going towards Chattanooga and then west towards Memphis. It has, I think, within our. Either the company or. Or this area, it's the strongest radio station. So you can listen to it. She probably could listen to it where she's at.
Morgan
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
So if you try to. Try to see if you can get on 105.9 in your area and then if you hear a rock station, then that's it.
Morgan
That's good to see.
Scuba Steve
From 3 to 7, 3 to 7pm Central. Yeah. Yeah. But yes, I'm enjoying it. I'm loving it. It's awesome. It's definitely a dream of mine to have my own show. And so being able to chase it and living in the moment, being present with it is pretty awesome. It's exhausting, but I know that it's paying off, so it's worth it.
Morgan
Anything worth having is. What's the saying? Anything worth having is going.
Scuba Steve
It's not easy.
Morgan
I can't remember. I only got the first half. If I'm being honest with you, it's like my brain just, like, died.
Scuba Steve
I think anything worth having isn't easy. I think it's what it is, is.
Morgan
Anything worth having isn't. Let's see what the quote is.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Because I built. Because they're always.
Morgan
Nothing in this world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain and difficulty. That's from Theodore Roosevelt. I knew there was a.
Scuba Steve
And I feel like it's been transformed over the years to basically the mindset of, like, if it's. If it's awesome and you love it, it's not going to be easy to. To obtain it and to maintain it.
Morgan
Yeah. Like, anything worth having isn't easy.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
It's kind of the short version but mister Teddy.
Scuba Steve
Mister Teddy Roosevelt Theodore, what is your.
Morgan
Favorite part about being a girl dad? That's from Paul in Texas.
Scuba Steve
Oh, gosh. There's a lot of scary things that I'm. For the future to come. I get so nervous because guys, you know, guys are, you know, I'm very well aware, and I have two girls, so it's like, oh, man. But my wife always sends me, like, these things on Instagram about how raising a daughter versus a son is completely different. And essentially that the father is the voice that the daughter will always hear in her head even. Because even later in life as an adult, whatever we instill in them or however we act or react or communicate any of that kind of stuff, it lives with them forever. And two ways. One, you were the voice in their head, but then also it's how you treat your daughter is how they will then expect to be treated when they are dating. So it's like. It's a lot. I feel like it's a very important role to play in this. And then also not having a father and then seeing my sisters not having a father and the struggle of that. So I'm a little bit more over the top of, like, I gotta be there, I gotta make sure I'm involved and all that. So, yeah, it's a really important role and scary. But I think the best part about it is knowing that whatever I say and do will leave a lasting impact. So that's pretty cool in the sense that I'm very conscious of how I act because of that. So I think that's really special. And then just my daughter, my middle daughter, she loves me. I call her my little bee. Boop. Beboop.
Morgan
Sounds like a Pixar character.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Yeah. She loves me so much. And the funny thing is she loves my wife, obviously. And she was our first daughter. And so my wife was. My wife was so excited when she was born, and I think for the first couple years, they had a special bond. But then when she hit two, like, I became the most important thing ever. And, like, there's things that my wife, she's, like, trying to get in the. Brush her teeth, and they won't brush their teeth. They can't. They won't do it. And I come up and they'll brush their teeth, and I'm like, oh, this is really cool.
Morgan
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
Like, they love me and listen to.
Morgan
Me, you know, it was really funny. My relationship with my mom and dad was probably very similar, and my mom and I were so much alike. Yeah, that. That's often why I leaned more into my dad because he wasn't alike me. So I like, I listened to him better because listening to my mom was like listening to myself in a way.
Scuba Steve
He butt heads a little bit because of it.
Morgan
Yeah. And so I do think there's some of that when it comes mother and daughter. Like you have a. Like I have a friendship with my mom that I could have never imagined and it's awesome. But I always did like when I was younger and as a kid I certainly listened to my dad better just because of that personality type.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
It's interesting how that works. So I wonder if that pans out for most mom, daughter and father son situations or father daughter situations.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
Or if that's just like usual, like specific to every person. I'm sure it is a little bit. But yeah, I'm so curious to see how it pans out for you guys because that. The dad's little girl thing is very real.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I know, it really is. I never really saw that, but now I'm seeing. I'm like, oh, this is the thing. Yeah. And then even when she was born, I was like, oh, I love her. But like I didn't realize how much I was going to love her until like it all started to become a. I was like, whoa. She's like, she loves me so much and then I love her so much. Oh like she literally could be in my skin if she could.
Morgan
Yeah. That's a dad's little girl. She's like. And that's how she's gonna look at it for the rest of her life. And that's where that impact comes from. So. Yeah, just, you know, I mean my dad did all the right things. He. He raised me to be very self sufficient and very independent and super independent.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
Yeah. And to trust who I am and be. Be my own person. And I. You're like that scuba. So you're gonna instill that in your daughter.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I feel like I got. Yeah, I think that's huge because you attract the right people or the right person that you should be with through the independence. And anyone that is afraid of that or is against it, it's just insecure in themselves and is looking for a non. And they wanted. They say they want independent, but they really don't like the fact that you owned your own house, had your own car, paid your own bills. All that kind of stuff was I think is huge and eventually would attract the right person, which it has finally for you, which is awesome. You know?
Morgan
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
So I Think. I think. I think that's huge. No, you're fine. It's not. It's a different text.
Morgan
Okay.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, not the text.
Morgan
It was waiting for a very specific yes.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
But, yeah, no, it definitely was special. And I really credit my dad. My mom and dad both. They. They both play a huge role, but my dad very much instilled in me that independence, and I'm very grateful for that.
Scuba Steve
Yes. That's awesome.
Morgan
You know, you do all the right things. I have no doubt that she's gonna be an awesome kid, but I love hearing girl dads talk about their kids. It's one of my favorite things to hear about.
Scuba Steve
Totally. And then the little one, she's awesome, too, but she's still in that phase where she loves Mom a lot because she's two, but I could start to see her slowly swinging my way a little bit.
Morgan
You're like, I'm winning them both.
Scuba Steve
Exactly. Yeah.
Morgan
This is exciting.
Scuba Steve
Totally. And my son's kind of indifferent. He doesn't really care. He, like, he loves both of us, and. Cause he's seven now, he's just like. And he also knows where to go when he wants to get what he wants to get.
Morgan
Yeah. Well. And we didn't have any boys in the family, so I don't know how boys, like how that parent changes over time.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
I'll be curious to know how that pans out, too, just over the course of their life.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
Kids and parent relationships are so interesting to me. So maybe I'm weird, but I don't know.
Scuba Steve
No, you're just human.
Morgan
All right, we're gonna take a quick break. We'll be right back. Betrayal Weekly is back for season two with brand new stories. The detective comes driving up fast and just, like, screeches right in the parking lot. I swear I'm not crazy, but I think he poisoned me. I feel trapped. My breathing changes.
Scuba Steve
More money, more money, more money.
Nicole Garcia
And I went white. I realized, wow. Like, he is not a mentor. He's pretty much a monster.
Morgan
New stories, new voices, and shocking manipulations. This didn't just happen to me.
Scuba Steve
It happened to hundreds of other people.
Morgan
But these aren't just stories of destruction. They're stories of survival, of people picking up the pieces and daring to tell the truth.
Nicole Garcia
I'm going to tell my story, and I'm going to hold my head up.
Morgan
Listen to Betrayal Weekly on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Simone Boyce
Think back to the early 2000s.
Morgan
You're flipping through TV channels and then you hear this.
Scuba Steve
I was rooting for you.
Morgan
We were all rooting for you. How dare you learn something from this? But looking back 20 years later, that iconic show so many of us love is horrifying.
Scuba Steve
Robyn, first of all, is too old to be starting model.
Morgan
She's huge.
Nicole Garcia
I talked to cast, crew and producers.
Morgan
Who were there for some of the.
Nicole Garcia
Show'S most shocking moments.
Morgan
If you were so rooting for her.
Nicole Garcia
Why don't you help her with never before heard interviews? The Curse of America's Next Top Model examines why this show was so popular and where it all went wrong.
Morgan
We basically sold our souls and they got rich.
Nicole Garcia
Listen to the Curse of America's Next Top model on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It may look different, but Native culture is very alive. My name is Nicole Garcia, and on Burn Sage Burn Br, we aim to explore that culture.
Morgan
It was a huge honor to become a television writer because it does feel.
Nicole Garcia
Oddly like very traditional.
Morgan
It feels like Bob Dylan going electric, that this is something we've been doing for like hundreds of years. You carry with you a sense of purpose and confidence.
Nicole Garcia
That's Sierra Teller Ornelas, who with Rutherford Falls, became the first Native showrunner in television history. On the podcast Burn Sage, Burn Bridges, we explore her story along with other Native stories, such as the creation of the first Native Comic Con or the importance of reservation basketball. Every day, Native people are striving to keep traditions alive while navigating the modern world, influencing and bringing our culture into the mainstream. Listen to Burn Sage, Burn bridges on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Morgan
Foreign.
Scott Barry Kaufman
Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the psychology podcast. Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about exploring human potential. I was going to schools to try to teach kids these skills and I get eye rolling from teachers or I get students who would be like, it's easier to punch someone in the face. When you think about emotion regulation, like, you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effort to use unless you think there's a good outcome as a result of it, if it's going to be beneficial to you because it's easy to say like, like you go blank yourself, right? It's easy. It's easy to just drink the extra beer. It's easy to ignore, to suppress seeing a colleague who's bothering you and just like, walk the other way. Avoidance is easier. Ignoring is easier. Denial is easier. Drinking is easier. Yelling, screaming is easy. Complex Problem solving, meditating, you know, takes effort.
Scuba Steve
Listen to the psychology podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Dr. J
But the humility in knowing that life is this classroom that we should never graduate from is what is going to keep you growing and that's all that matters. World Mental Health Day is around the corner. And on my podcast, just heal with Dr. J, I dive into what it really means to care for your mind, body and spirit. From breaking generational patterns to building emotional capacity, healing is a journey and wholeness is the destination.
Morgan
I'm gonna walk away feeling very healed and feeling like, yes, I'm gonna continue my healing journey and I'm gonna get some keys from you.
Dr. J
Listen to just heal with Dr. J from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Morgan
What is your favorite place to eat in the city? I need new places. This is from Nicole and Petaluma, California. So I'm assuming she's talking about California.
Scuba Steve
Oh, in petaluma. Yeah. That's NorCal.
Morgan
Okay.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. In the city, man, I haven't eaten the city in a minute. I know there's a spot in east that we used to always go to that I love. It's not new anymore, but it was new several years ago. It's called Creation. And they have one in. She would know where this is at. They have one in Pittsburgh and they have one in like the downtown Pittsburgh area, which is really not Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but there's a Pittsburgh.
Morgan
Isn't that crazy how there's like as you're saying that I'm like, all I'm thinking is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Yeah, it's kind of like how there's a Nashville, Indiana or Nashville, Illinois or something. And I'm like, there's so many major.
Scuba Steve
Cities, Manhattan, Kansas and Manhattan, New York. There's even a. There's even an Antioch in Tennessee. There's also an Antioch in California, which is where my wife's family is, out in that area, like the East Bay, Antioch, Concord and all that. It's weird. Yeah. How they have the same thing, but.
Morgan
Sorry, I derailed.
Scuba Steve
No, no, no. I even think this Pittsburgh is spelled differently from that. Pittsburgh. I believe one of them has like an H and one doesn't.
Morgan
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
What? Forget it. And who cares? I know Creation really good. I'm trying to think if there's a spot like in the Mission District. I always feel like there's some pretty baller ass restaurants. Let me look in the Mission of San Francisco.
Morgan
Mission district, Middle of Sam Sand.
Scuba Steve
But I'll even say if this one. If this one's still around. I know the pandemic. Like, whenever time I would go to visit, the pandemic would always scare me of, like, things being gone because they were all once there and then now they're not because of, you know, just things closed down or didn't make it. But there's two spots that I used to love to go to. One was in the Tenderloin, which is kind of a seedy area, so I'd be surprised if it still exists. But it was called the Black Cat. It was like an underground speakeasy, like a jazz bar, but they also had food.
Morgan
I love a jazz bar.
Scuba Steve
Oh, it was sick. It was so much fun. And then another spot was called hrd, which was cash only, and that was in the. More, like the Soma area. Cash only. It was always featured on, like, Food Network channels. Oh, my God. Their sandwiches and their. It was so freaking delicious.
Morgan
Okay, let me see if I can find these two places. Black Cat, San Francisco looks like it is still open.
Scuba Steve
Oh, it is. And is it in, like, the Tenderland area?
Morgan
Same. It says Eddie Street.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, cool. Sweet.
Morgan
And then what was the other?
Scuba Steve
Hrd? Yeah, hrd. All the three letters.
Morgan
Like a coffee shop? Kind of.
Scuba Steve
No, it's like a Vietnamese sandwich shop, I believe.
Morgan
Was it on Third Street?
Scuba Steve
It was on. Yeah. Third and Soma.
Morgan
Yeah, it's closed.
Scuba Steve
Oh, that was so amazing.
Morgan
Yeah, they're not reopening either.
Scuba Steve
Oh, that's.
Morgan
That one is. That's a bummer.
Scuba Steve
That is a bummer. Because that one was delicious.
Morgan
I always get sad when, like, I try really hard to go and try new restaurants all the time. Like, just even, like, when I say new restaurants, like, I'll try and go somewhere new each time. Even if it's a place that's been here for 50 years.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
I always try and go. Every time we go out to eat, I'm eating at a new place, and it makes me really sad when, like, mom and pop shops have been around for decades. Shut down.
Scuba Steve
They're gone. I know. And they were so good.
Morgan
Good food or.
Scuba Steve
I know.
Morgan
Drinks or whatever they do. So bummer. Okay.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Oh, then Kingdom. This one. This one's close. I'm going to cry. We're going to end the podcast right now. This one was called. Was it Kingdom of Dumpling? And it was over in the Chinese.
Morgan
Restaurant in San Francisco?
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
Yes. It's still open.
Scuba Steve
You know, Dumpling. It was like the Sunset District. Cash only, super small hole in the wall. It's been around forever. It's an OG spot, man. That place was phenomenal.
Morgan
Yeah, you're still good there.
Scuba Steve
Okay, cool. Sweet. The soup dumplings. Oh my gosh. The frickin best.
Morgan
Oh man. Okay. Do you have any new favorite pairs of shoes lately? This is Tim in Colorado.
Scuba Steve
My wife has not allowed me to buy any new shoes. What in a while? I mean it's been. I can't think of me pulled my in person. I can't think of the last pair of shoes I bought in person. I'm going to check my sneakers app to see if I bought anything recently.
Morgan
Are you guys on a budgeting right now?
Scuba Steve
Budget slash. She's like, you have enough shoes. You have more than enough shoes. You have all the shoes you could possibly want. But I was like, yeah, there's a few more that I'm trying to conquer of like my holy grail collection of shoes that I wanted from my childhood that I never got that I'm trying to buy now. And one of them is a pair of Jason kids that came out in 96. Okay, they're up tempo.
Morgan
I'm gonna have to look them up.
Scuba Steve
They recently came out with a new pair of Jason kids, but they're not the color way that I like. I like the old school where it's like that charcoal gray, black and white. Okay, Jason kid, up tempo. Let me see if you get the right ones. The 96 flight of tempos or something like that. I think it's called Jason. Maybe it's called Tempo.
Morgan
We're doing a lot of googling on this. Best fits.
Scuba Steve
These, those are. No as the second one ones. It's those ones right there, but not that colorway.
Morgan
Okay, so they got like a little funky wave on them. They got a little like it looks like balls of air on the bottom of the feet.
Scuba Steve
Yes.
Morgan
So they're Nikes.
Scuba Steve
The Nikes? Yeah, man.
Morgan
What's the last pair your favorite brand overall?
Scuba Steve
Oh yeah, for sure.
Morgan
Okay.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Nike's my favorite brand. Nike, Jordan.
Morgan
Even you just talking about those. You never said Nike. So I was like thinking they might be something else, but everything's always Nike.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, that one, those ones and the ones that right there next to it, those are the Air Zoom Flight. I want those as the pennies from when he played in the 96 Olympics. I almost got a pair of those when we were at the Navy PX in Orlando. My grandmother, she was like, you know those sweet Ladies, like, I'll get you what you want. And they had those shoes and they were, I think 90 bucks back then, which was a lot of money for shoes. My budget for shoes was always like $40 and $50. Like the sale rack or Payless shoes or whatever the hell. We would get sucked. I didn't love it because then you would wear these like, Bunk Ass Shack shoes or Hakeema Lodge ones that no one had. And then you get your butt kicked for wearing stupid shoes.
Morgan
So my bucket. Is that a dude thing? Because I wear all kinds of shoes.
Scuba Steve
You're not wearing airwalks, like an air. That's the crazy thing, too. You go to Walmart now. Walmart sells airwalks. They sell fubu, they sell lug, they sell all the brands that were cool in the 90s.
Morgan
Walmart's like, clothing section.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
Pretty solid.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. They've done a whole revamp across the country.
Morgan
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
Esthetically looks more pleasing. That's like brighter. They have Reebok there now.
Morgan
Yeah. Like, they have a lot of good brands. I was walking through, I was buying something for a theme birthday party. I was like, oh, I would. I would wear that. Wear that. And I was like, yeah, cool clothes. And yeah, they. Walmart, notoriously, was never known for that. They were known for Walmart people.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. It was not really, like, the best stuff.
Morgan
Okay. Okay. So no new pairs of shoes. And we got our last one. This is from Sarah in Tennessee. Have you tried Mellow Fellow Vapes or tinctures?
Scuba Steve
Tinctures, yeah, they're like the. Like the vape cartridges and stuff. Yeah.
Morgan
Okay. Well, she highly recommends. So she's curious if you've tried it.
Scuba Steve
I don't think I've had Mellow Yellow. Let me look at you.
Morgan
Vape.
Scuba Steve
I haven't in a long time because it would give me. Because of the tinctures in it. It would make me sneeze every time I'd hit it, so.
Morgan
So you're allergic to vaping?
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I think it's the. Whatever the tinctures are that are in there that give you. That gives it the flavor or whatever. There was a certain brand, and I think it was called Kingpin, which is a really. And they had. I think they called it Raw or whatever, where basically it was. Because when you get most vapes, they're yellow, and this one was like a clear one. They're so hard to find. But that was the only one. It was more like organic and it didn't have all the tinctures in it. Would make you sneeze and. Because I guess it's like a common thing, unless you are, I don't know, a superhuman and you can get through it. But they would have a clear version that wouldn't make you sneeze and was more clean. But of course, they don't sell it very often, and when they do have it, they always sell out because it's better than the other one.
Morgan
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
So, yeah, I'm more of a. Just. I like, flower better because I feel like. And there's pros and cons to everything.
Morgan
So you bake it in stuff and then you eat it?
Scuba Steve
No, I just smoke it. Like flour, like, in a bowl or roll it up in a J or something.
Morgan
Like flour. Like baking flour?
Scuba Steve
No.
Morgan
Because, listen, I know they make baking flour that does make you feel special.
Scuba Steve
No, so. So all the different versions, there's. So there's. There's like, edibles, which could be, like, gummies or candy or whatever it may be.
Morgan
Yeah.
Scuba Steve
And which. Those are made with, like, a. An oil. So the oil is like, the bas would either bake. You can get oil to bake your own stuff, but you can buy it where they put the oils in it, and they sell it and they package it, and they're. You know, they're portioned out by the milligrams and all that. There's the vaping, where it's like the cartridges and all that. There's the dab, which is way too hard for me. That's like. For people who are numb and. Or, like, smoke way too much.
Morgan
They also do, like, dab bars.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, that's just too strong for me. Okay, but then flour is basically like, like, buds. Like the actual. Like the traditional, like, from old school. Like, just like, actual. What you would see.
Morgan
Yeah, like the plant.
Scuba Steve
The plant, exactly. Yeah.
Morgan
But isn't there, like, weed flour that people bake with?
Scuba Steve
Well, that's the oil.
Morgan
Okay, so it's oil.
Scuba Steve
It's not flour, it's oil. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. So when you say flour, it was really cute that you stopped that. I was like.
Morgan
I really thought it was because people bake, like, brownies and stuff.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. They use oil oil. It's, like, in butter, and they make the butter out of the THC oil or whatever. But. Yeah, so, no, there's no actual. You probably use flour to make the brownies, whatever you're making.
Morgan
Yeah. But it's not weed flower, like, I was thinking.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Flower is like the term for. For like the. Like. Because it. Because when the weeds growing It's a plant with leaves and then the buds or you can call. Bud is the flower that grows out and it's like, you know, that's what. That's where you pick that and dry it and smoke that. So, yeah, I'm definitely more of a smoker than anything.
Morgan
Okay, well, thanks for the lesson on flower. I don't know, man. I don't know.
Scuba Steve
I. Just kidding. I don't.
Morgan
You know, I. I thought flourish.
Scuba Steve
That is funny. When you're not in that culture, you would think. I mean, on the outside in, I'm like, oh, she was kind of right. Yeah. But spelled differently. That flower is F, L, O U R. This flower is F, L, O W E R flower.
Morgan
Oh, like the. I got it. Okay.
Scuba Steve
Flower. Like a literal flower.
Morgan
Either maybe it's the fact that I'm currently on a fast as we're doing this, or the fact I haven't eaten a lot of the foods that I love. So maybe I just was really going to food.
Scuba Steve
Totally. Or you just don't. You're just not educated in that world and that's totally fine.
Morgan
Both.
Scuba Steve
Square bear.
Morgan
Now a square bear. Is that also a terminology in that?
Scuba Steve
No, I think it's just like in life, I have.
Morgan
I. I've had my moments of that, but I don't know anything about the terminology. It was always done for me and then I just participated.
Scuba Steve
True. That's usually how it would be when, like when you're hanging out with girls. Oh, I got this. Don't worry. Yeah, the move is always. You wanna. You want a shotgun? Like, that was basically. It's like you take like a blunt or a joint and you put it in your mouth. Like the fire end is in your mouth and you hold like the, like the tip of it, this part, and you blow. And you can blow the smoke into someone's face.
Morgan
What?
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Called shotgunning.
Morgan
But shotgunning is also a beer term.
Scuba Steve
I know, but. But it's in this world, my world, it's that. But it would be. It'd be a way to basically essentially get your lips pretty close to a girl. Because then you'd be like, turkey.
Morgan
Turkey.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, you want a shotgun? They're like, yeah, I'll take a shotgun. And so you put it in your mouth. So you're basically risking burning the crap out of the inside of your mouth to maybe get a kiss from this chicken. And you put it there and you blow it. And then some girls, you get it close enough. And then also next to you, you're.
Morgan
Making out but what happens to the thing?
Scuba Steve
You pull it out and you make out. Or you just kiss him just to, like, see what it's like, and then see where it goes from there.
Morgan
Get a little feeling.
Scuba Steve
Exactly. Yeah. Or you just do the shotgun. Here you go, and you move on. It was, like, a stupid move. Like, in high school.
Morgan
I learned so much right now in this moment.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. She tagged this one. Not safe for work unless you're in a state that participates.
Morgan
There's a lot of square bears like me. Okay.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, true. This could be an educational thing for mothers also that have kids. They're trying to hide it.
Morgan
Yeah. If they talk about shotgunning. Apparently. Now I know there's two terms.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. For beer and for this. Yeah.
Morgan
Neither one's good, so.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Shotgunning a beer is way worse, though, because it's, like, gross.
Morgan
I love shot. I was really good at shotgunning.
Scuba Steve
Really? I was not. I couldn't do it. I couldn't get it to, like. I couldn't open my throat to get.
Morgan
It to go down to make that happen.
Scuba Steve
Yeah.
Morgan
That was kind of one of my party tricks when we were in college. They'd be like, anybody want a shotgun? Be all the dudes. I'm like, bring me in.
Scuba Steve
Oh, my God. So cool. And I'm like, she's badass. She's amazing.
Morgan
And I do cake stands, and I love cake stands. I love a cake stand.
Scuba Steve
Oh, cake stands are so much fun.
Morgan
My challenge to myself was always to stand on the cake stand by myself without anybody holding me. I never quite got it. It's tough, but I was close.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, it's tough. We had a girl one time at a house party in Daly City, San Francisco area, and I think it was her last day at work. I don't remember. It was like, we were in our early 20s, and she was never in a keg stand, but was like, I'll do it. Sure. And I remember the. I'll never forget it. We all. After she did what she did, we're like, why would you do that? Like. Like, it doesn't make. So you have to hold. You know, you have to hold your hands up on the keg, and then someone pulls your feet up in the air. So when she was done, she just, like, let go of the keg, which.
Morgan
No.
Scuba Steve
But they were still holding her feet up. So if you know anything about gravity, when you let. When you let go of it, but they're holding your feet up still. Bam. She smacked her face on the keg, and we're all like, stephanie, what the hell's wrong with you?
Morgan
Oh, my gosh.
Scuba Steve
I didn't know what to do. I was like, well, don't let go because they're still holding your feet up. There's a thing called gravity.
Morgan
That poor, that poor girl. She probably still has an injury from this day and tells that story, I'm sure.
Scuba Steve
Yeah, I'm sure it's part of her party stories of forever. And she was so intelligent, though. I feel like sometimes people who are just overly intelligent are not thinking about this kind of stuff.
Morgan
Social skills are different than intelligence, for sure.
Scuba Steve
So most definitely. Yeah. Yeah. She went on to move. I think she went on to work for Google and do all kinds of great things, so.
Morgan
Oh, yeah, for sure. She tells that story.
Scuba Steve
Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
Morgan
That's wild.
