Slicing can be used for so many different things. We're here with our friends from CNN from Siemens Energy. The ways that it can be used, frankly, are limitless and are really, really built to think through. How can T Mobile understand the pain points that our customers have? Smash those pain points and help you deliver very specific outcomes.
Amy
In the middle of the night, Saskia awoke in a haze. Her husband Mike was on his laptop. What was on his screen would change Saskia's life forever.
Bobby Bones
I said, I need you to tell.
Amy
Me exactly what you're doing. And immediately the mask came off. You're supposed to be safe. That's your home. That's your husband. Listen to Betrayal Season 5 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Yes, Bobby Bone show.
Bobby Bones
Something we're doing a little different is we're doing part two before we do the show. We're recording from my house today and there's power out everywhere still near my house. I'm very lucky that I have power, but all around me still people without power. One of our friends who had power lost power again.
Eddie
Oh.
Bobby Bones
Last night Josie did.
Eddie
It's like a little bit of hope and then gone.
Bobby Bones
Well, they had it for two days, so they had full hope and then it was all gone again.
Eddie
So.
Bobby Bones
Which makes me nervous that that could happen here. But we're also recording this before we record the show. So I don't want to be later on in the day and lose power. And the files are probably a bit shorter this week because again, when we were able to get out, we're able to get out. Amy's just walking in, so we will. Yeah.
Eddie
Power yet.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. But I, I saw that text as well, but it's starting to go up again all over.
Amy
Text from my neighborhood group.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I saw you're on that. Three neighborhood group texts. I saw one from, like, a neighborhood called Belmead, where they're like, we don't want to publicly say because there may be looting in the houses if we say you're not getting it back for two weeks. And then some of it started to pop up. Some other friends, they were told next week. They started to get power last night. So I don't know that you'll get it, but I bet it's a little quicker. I bet they're setting expectations low.
Eddie
Yeah.
Amy
Yeah. Which is good. Like, set them low and then. Yeah, we'll get it back. I'm fine with it.
Bobby Bones
I'm betting you get it tomorrow.
Amy
That would be lovely.
Bobby Bones
If I'm a betting man. I am a betting man.
Eddie
You are a betting man.
Bobby Bones
I am a betting man, but I can't bet it. Yeah. DraftKings doesn't have that.
Amy
Yeah, no, that would be so great.
Eddie
You know what I found yesterday? My faucet outside. Busted.
Amy
You didn't wrap it?
Bobby Bones
I did wrap it.
Eddie
I wrapped it. But I was driving up and I saw it, and it looks like a waterfall coming out of the side of my house. And now we had to call someone. I don't know how bad it is.
Bobby Bones
We had to call a guy. One of our. It's weird to complain about this. We have power now at our house, which is awesome. But we have a pool, and that busted. And water was going everywhere, so we had to call. I mean, wa. Wa. Pool. You have a pool. You have a pool, Fancy boy.
Eddie
But. But pipes. Busted pipes. No joke.
Bobby Bones
But that pipe was.
Eddie
Oh, boy.
Bobby Bones
So, yeah, it's been a mess. Like, it looks like a tornado hit. That's the closest thing that I can compare it to.
Eddie
You see that drone footage? Like, the drone footage people have over neighborhoods is. Yeah, that's what it looks like.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Like, all the overhead shots would just massive trees down everywhere. It looks like a tornado. Is it? So that's what we're. That's what we're up to. This will be before. We'll still do the show. We're still gonna put em up in order of part one and part two, but if they're a little shorter today, that's what's up. What'd you guys do last night?
Amy
I ate dinner and went to sleep. Like, I'm so tired. We're staying at a friend's house, but my pets Are not acclimating there well at all. So, like, my cat meowed all night long. She doesn't know what's going on. So I was just ready to go to bed and then she peed. It's the whole thing. I now have to call a professional.
Bobby Bones
Oh, because it's not your house. She peed on something. You gotta clean it.
Amy
Oh, for sure. Yeah. I'm like, oh, okay.
Bobby Bones
We're just an eye. Not. My cats pee. And she doesn't have a cat.
Amy
No, they do have a cat. Thank God. I think that's why my cat's allowed because, like, they're cat people. Because most people would be like, yeah, you can come, but not your cat. Bring your dog. Fine. No cats.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, Eddie, you're good.
Eddie
Power wise, we've been good.
Amy
Yeah, yeah, he's living large.
Bobby Bones
Lunchbox. Does lunchbox have power yet?
Amy
Yeah, he got it back. Yeah, yeah, he. He got it back. I can't remember what day, but he. He didn't have it and then he got it back. I think the issue with him is no hot water or something like that.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Eddie
And he has people over at his house too, like neighbors that are staying at his house.
Bobby Bones
Lunchbox, are you there? Yeah, I'm here. What's happening? I have power, but I have a family that's been staying with me. They've been there three nights now. They still don't have power. And half my neighborhood still doesn't have power. So there's two other families that they come over during the day and let their kids warm up and hang out, and they try to get some work done using their hotspot on their phone. And then they go back home and sleep in the cold. I keep looking at the outage map, and at one point it was like 330,000 for the first time. It's less than 100,000.
Eddie
Oh, that's good.
Bobby Bones
Like, I watch it constantly. They're working. I saw there was a place in town, I think more than one place, that's giving all the linemen free food. Like if you're working online, you go by, you get free food.
Eddie
I saw that.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Eddie
So, man, even the highway, the interstate doesn't have lights.
Bobby Bones
Some. Yeah, that's how you know what blocks have power.
Eddie
Yeah.
Amy
Because, okay, so the light actually it's kind of near here. So I saw an accident. And it's like a big four way light situation. And when the lights are out, you treat it like a four way stop. Four way stop.
Bobby Bones
Everybody doesn't know that. People just drive through.
Amy
How do they not know that?
Eddie
How?
Bobby Bones
Because there's no light saying stop. And they're used to going on that road. And if the light doesn't say stop, they just go.
Amy
I think what got confusing is the lights before it work. So then they just think they don't see red. So they're like, oh, this must still be a green light too. But it's. You don't see any color if it doesn't say stop.
Bobby Bones
You just keep going. If you've always gone, right, these two trucks.
Amy
So I know these are like grown men crashed into each other.
Eddie
Well, that's sexist.
Bobby Bones
You didn't see them crash though, right?
Amy
Oh, I saw them off to the side dealing with police and I'm like.
Bobby Bones
Dang, somebody didn't stop.
Amy
Treat it like a four way stop.
Eddie
However, if it's a busy road and then there's an A crossing one, you know, like if there's no traffic on the smaller road, I think the big one dominates. Right? Like the bigger. If it's five lanes versus two, if.
Bobby Bones
The traffic's out, you have to stop.
Amy
It's a.
Bobby Bones
If the lights out. Like you can't just go interpreting it how you want while driving. That's what you're doing. Like, well, if it's 33 smaller, you should probably. If the light is out, everyone should stop.
Amy
Those guys in their trucks thought they're like, it's my turn. No, it's my turn.
Bobby Bones
They're doing Eddie's method.
Eddie
Yeah, the bigger road dominates.
Amy
Oh, yeah. So any hoozy?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, we start with that.
Amy
I've only cried like three times today.
Bobby Bones
Or in general.
Amy
No total since the power went out. I'm like, that's not bad.
Bobby Bones
I thought you were gonna fall coming in here today. I text Amy. I was like, look, they're still eyes.
Amy
I didn't even look at. I don't have my phone out. Cause I can't multitask in this.
Eddie
You texted just her?
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Eddie
Even though me and Mike could have fallen. Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You guys don't wear heels?
Eddie
We don't.
Amy
Well, my thing is I only have certain clothes at my friend's house I haven't brought. And it's like either my house slippers or. Then I was like, why did I bring these dang boots?
Eddie
But why don't you take your cute shirt that you were wearing?
Amy
What cute shirt?
Eddie
The one with the shoulder pads.
Bobby Bones
The pirate one.
Amy
Oh, my cute purple. No, I don't. No, I didn't take that. I have like warm sweaters, but I'M gonna go by my house today and pick up some stuff. Hopefully no looters have come.
Bobby Bones
That's a risky proposition, that looting. You just don't know if people are there. If you're betting on power's out, let's go and break into these houses. Because nobody's there. Some people are still at their houses.
Amy
Yeah. Like, and. Or some people are gonna stop by. And if I stop by, I will hurt you.
Eddie
Oh, nice.
Bobby Bones
No, you won't. If you stop buying someone's in your house, you're not going in.
Eddie
You're gone.
Amy
Well, here's the thing, though. I'm like, you're. You're also taking the risk of, like, you're not getting away fast because there's ice. You could slip. Like, you're. You can't drive away. So I'm like, yeah, risk it. Looters.
Bobby Bones
No, you're not. You're not like, risk it.
Eddie
Have you heard of looters?
Amy
No, but I. I've been fearing them ever since I abandoned my home.
Bobby Bones
Today in 1988, on this day, January 29th, always and forever by Randy Travis became a platinum album. Today in 1996, at the American Music Awards, Garth Brooks refused to accept the award for favorite artist of the year, saying he cannot agree with this. And it should have gone to Hootie and the Blowfish. That's correct. Good memory.
Eddie
Wow, Amy.
Bobby Bones
Garth Brooks accepted two other awards. The Eagles got three. Reba, Alabama, and Shania Twain each got one. So, yeah, he left the award up there, I think.
Eddie
Why didn't he accept that one?
Bobby Bones
Because he said he didn't deserve it.
Amy
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
You don't know the story. We talked about it.
Eddie
I've heard it, but it wasn't if.
Amy
I know it, you know, but it wasn't a stance.
Eddie
I was just like, I don't deserve this. So here's.
Bobby Bones
I think they left it there on the podium.
Eddie
I don't remember that. That's crazy.
Bobby Bones
Today in 1999, the Dixie Chicks collected a quadruple platinum album for Wide Open Spaces. If they reprint that album, which you don't reprint a lot of stuff because you don't have a lot of CD or I guess, vinyl.
Eddie
Sure.
Bobby Bones
Do they put Dixie Chicks on that because that was their name whenever they.
Amy
I don't think so you think they.
Bobby Bones
Put chicks on Wide Open Spaces?
Eddie
Like, what's the artwork on it now?
Amy
Yeah.
Eddie
Did they change the artwork if they.
Amy
Were to reprint it?
Bobby Bones
You think they put chicks instead of Dixie Chicks, even though that wasn't their name? Then, yeah, but that, like, if you played ball for the Cubs in 1997, and then you went and played for the Red Sox, and you're like, I need to reprint my 97 card. You don't reprint you in a Red Sox uniform. You're printing you in an old Cubs uniform.
Amy
Yeah, but the name wasn't changed because of a negative association. Do you know what I mean? Like, I don't know.
Bobby Bones
I think they would still put on the old albums.
Eddie
So, like, if you pull it up on streaming, it still says Dixie Chicks on the album cover, the artwork.
Amy
Well, yeah, because they haven't read no on streaming.
Eddie
But you could. You can change.
Amy
Oh, yeah, that would be easy. You're right.
Eddie
So I guess they wouldn't.
Bobby Bones
It's not a hill I want to die on fighting for this that I'm right. But I would think because that's what it was then, and that's what it's probably.
Amy
Okay, so any music, they put out after the chick. So then when we play, like, on Women of I Heart country, if we play a throwback from the chicks, it's.
Bobby Bones
Always listed as addiction chicks.
Amy
I know, but you can say that.
Bobby Bones
Now, because that's her name now.
Amy
Right. So I say if you're in a.
Bobby Bones
Time machine, you went back to that time, you wouldn't say the Chicks.
Amy
Yeah. Okay.
Eddie
You don't want to say it?
Amy
No, I, I, I'll say. I'll say it. But I, I just thought, like, because of the reason behind the change, that they would just stick with that, you know?
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Like a whole.
Amy
Like, would Lady Antebellum do the same thing?
Bobby Bones
Mm. Any of their stuff when they were Lady Annabella. They're remaking it. They probably just continue to remake it with the original art.
Amy
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
Gretchen Wilson signed her record deal on this day in 2004. In 2008, on CMT Crossroads, Sarah Evans and Maroon 5 2013, Stevie Nicks and Lady Antebellum did an installment of CMT Crossroads. That's cool. And then in 2014, Tim McGraw and Miranda Lambert each got seven nominations at the ACMs. Keith Urban got six. There you go. That's what's happened on the stand. Country music. Do you have your story?
Amy
Well, you can get my computer out. Yeah.
Eddie
There's no WI fi. I have mine.
Bobby Bones
There's no WI fi.
Amy
There's no WI fi. Well, I still have it. I can still pull it up.
Bobby Bones
You can just go from the dome.
Amy
Listen, I can remember that Garth left his trophy up there for Hootie But I can't remember what I prepared last night.
Bobby Bones
Eddie, do you want to try yours? Yeah, I got mine.
Eddie
So you know how people do dry January for alcohol and they cut alcohol out?
Bobby Bones
Anybody that says they're doing dry January, I think they have a problem.
Amy
No, my boyfriend doesn't. He doesn't know.
Bobby Bones
I'm just telling you what I think. I think they have a problem.
Eddie
And Amy, take it easy.
Bobby Bones
She jumped hard.
Eddie
Relax.
Bobby Bones
I think if you have to go dry for a whole month to reset yourself, it means you go pretty hard in all the other months.
Amy
Yeah, I agree, but.
Bobby Bones
No, you can't agree. You just yelled at me.
Amy
I agree with what you're saying. I said. However, in some cases, they use it as a. Like, just. They like to do it as a complete reset. And they're not big drinkers. Like, since I've been dating him, I drink less than I've ever drank.
Bobby Bones
So.
Amy
So much so that I'm like, I'm not doing dry January.
Bobby Bones
You don't need to, because you're drinking hot. That's my point.
Amy
But he's doing it well.
Eddie
He drinks a lot.
Amy
No, he doesn't.
Bobby Bones
When you're not looking.
Amy
This is like a health thing. He'll even. He actually. When you're at work, he actually does it into half of February. He does, like, six weeks.
Eddie
Oh, really?
Amy
Because he heard that.
Bobby Bones
Sounds even more hardcore.
Amy
It's that bad.
Bobby Bones
He does dry 20, 26. Because all the other years have been so bad.
Amy
He does that because if he's already made it the whole month without, like, any type of alcohol, then something for the liver and the kidneys. If you can make it six weeks, the repair is even better.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Amy
Anyway, I know that sounds even worse.
Eddie
I mean, I have neighbors that, like, they. They come over and they don't really drink much, but they're doing dry January. And, like. And so it's like the other side of it, like, you don't really drink anyway. So what are you doing? Just.
Bobby Bones
Unless they really do. They don't drink around you.
Eddie
But I drink. Like, they come to the house. I usually have, like, you know, bottles out and whatever. And then, like, they don't even drink. But I saw them the other day, and they're like, yeah, we're doing dry January.
Bobby Bones
What I would respect is if you did dry January, no liquids at all.
Eddie
Nothing.
Bobby Bones
No water. I said I would respect it. I didn't say it was smart.
Eddie
That's really dry.
Bobby Bones
That's a real fast right there.
Eddie
Stop.
Bobby Bones
You want to do a real Fast Eddie, do dry January, no liquid. Okay, what's your point?
Eddie
So anyway, my story was that the cannabis companies are want everyone to do high January. If you're not doing dry January, start doing high January.
Bobby Bones
And orange juice companies want people to citrus January.
Eddie
I thought that was funny.
Amy
I wish there was some sort of. I've been getting conflicting information about that. I mean, I. I don't cannabis, so it doesn't matter. But like, you know how gummies are more popular, different things that can help you sleep, better, calm, and I don't know all the different ingredients, but like, I see brain experts online saying if you have adhd, you should stay away from the stuff like the THC or I don't know, because of how your brain operates, where yes, for a lot of people it is fine and you should do it. But if you have ADHD, you know, Dr. Amond, do you see him a lot? He's the bald guy that always talks to me.
Bobby Bones
I don't know who these people are.
Amy
No, no, no, no, he does.
Bobby Bones
She starts talking Mandarin and I just sit back.
Amy
No, no, he. He like, has scanned Khloe Kardashian's brain and a lot of other.
Bobby Bones
I don't know who that is.
Amy
Okay. If I showed you his face, you'd probably be like, oh yeah, I've seen that guy pop up before. Cuz he's renowned. Anyway, I needed.
Eddie
Is it amen? Like, amen.
Amy
Uhhuh.
Bobby Bones
He's renowned.
Amy
He is renowned. He is. And I just wish it there was a comprehensive. You know, everything was just in one spot and I could check, like, what? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
What? Never seen him. What?
Amy
Our algorithms are so different.
Eddie
I've seen them.
Amy
Like, what, what we should stay away from or take or not. Like, because alcohol is terrible for people with adhd, apparently. Terrible. But I mean, you know, you still dabble. But like, how bad is if I were to take a gummy, A legal one?
Bobby Bones
I don't know. We don't have the answer.
Amy
I want to be able to relax or sleep or calm my brain.
Bobby Bones
It's probably all trial and error, but.
Amy
Then the next day, I don't want to be all a mess.
Bobby Bones
You probably won't know until you do it and see if you're a mess.
Eddie
Are there, like, I don't want to.
Amy
The guinea pig.
Eddie
Are there cannabis hangovers?
Bobby Bones
It's not a guinea pig. I think everybody's body is.
Amy
Oh yeah.
Bobby Bones
They are completely different. Our biology, even us four, all so different from each other that, I mean, I can't have milk. So think about that. You guys can have milk, no problem, but I can't have milk. Same thing could happen with any sort of chemical food plant. So you have to do it and see how it treats you. You have to do it like five times.
Amy
Right. Because then it's also like, well, what else do you.
Bobby Bones
Do? You get enough sleep?
Eddie
You haven't done a gummy.
Amy
I've done a gummy.
Bobby Bones
Oh, she's on one right now. Your ear.
Amy
No, I. No, I've done. And when my mom was sick, my sister and I would smoke with her. That was.
Eddie
You guys are like a doobie.
Amy
Yeah, like in the. Yeah, after we bought it on a street corner in Austin from, like, a high school friend.
Bobby Bones
On a street corner from a high school friend. That doesn't match.
Amy
I know.
Bobby Bones
Like, you made it sound like you're out just looking for weed. And then it was a high school friend.
Amy
No, we got.
Bobby Bones
Anybody have any? Mark, you're out here selling drugs from geometry. And then he's like. And then we mentored him and got him back on the right path.
Amy
No, no, no. They were definitely. No, they were. It was good stuff. It was called Lance Armstrong Bones.
Bobby Bones

In the middle of the night, Saskia awoke in a haze. Her husband Mike was on his laptop. What was on his screen would change Saskia's life forever.
Bobby Bones
I said, I need you to tell.
Amy
Me exactly what you're doing. And immediately the mask came off. You're supposed to be safe. That's your home. That's your husband. To keep this secret for so many years. He's like a seasoned pro. This is a story about the end of a marriage, but it's also the story of one woman who was done living in the dark.
Bobby Bones
You're a dangerous person who preys on vulnerable and trusting people. You're a creditor.
Amy
Michael Levengood. Listen to Betrayal Season 5 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Bobby Bones
Your story lunchbox. Yeah. Ryan Wedding, that big drug dealer that got busted in Mexico. He appeared in court where he is facing 17 federal charges. Drug trafficking, witness tampering, and conspiracy to commit murder. He pleaded not guilty. And he's saying, hey, you guys didn't arrest me. I turned myself in because I'm ready to clear my name. So I don't know if he turned himself in or got caught, but his trial is set for March 23rd. Yeah, I saw two different stories. I saw that he turned himself in in Mexico. Yeah. And they said he walked to the embassy. And then the US Authorities are like, no, we. We tracked him down in Mexico and we busted him. So I don't know what happened. Okay. I don't believe us.
Amy
So he.
Bobby Bones
Probably because we lie all. We're lying all the time right now. It's. It's nothing but lies.
Eddie
You mean like our country?
Bobby Bones
Yes. So it's crazy. I was watching Rand Paul yesterday go up Marco Rubio in a hearing about Venezuela, and you Guys don't watch this.
Eddie
No, we didn't.
Bobby Bones
It was renowned.
Amy
Renowned.
Bobby Bones
And Rand Paul said, rubio. So if another country came and took our president and came in four hours and, you know, there were just a few casualties, would that be an act of war? And he's like, well, that's not what we're talking about. He goes, no. Would it be. Would that be an act of war? And he's like that, no, we're do. No. He said, so you're saying. So we went into their country, took their president. It wasn't a big. We didn't drop any bombs, but we took their president, arrested him, brought him back to our country. That's an act of war. And you're saying it's not. He's like, well, that's not. But if someone did that to us, it would be. And he's like, you're such a hypocrite. I don't trust anything our government tells us. Now more than ever. It's, it's absolutely the worst that it's ever been.
Amy
Oh, hypocrisy is the theme right now.
Bobby Bones
I know also, everybody has cameras, so that's the.
Amy
Yes, that's how we know you're able.
Bobby Bones
To see a lot of times. But imagine the stuff they tell us, that there are no cameras. We're probably, we're so I. He probably went in and turned himself in. Now do I. I don't know if he did it or not. Probably did. I'm just kidding. He probably did. There's a lot of smoke around that fire, but I don't believe anything that they're telling us. So. Americans.
Amy
Yeah. Cool.
Eddie
Good stuff.
Bobby Bones
I know. Yeah, it's. I think our people now, our citizens, have the least confidence, faith, trust in our government ever. And a lot of it too. It's just because there are a lot of cameras and they're just getting caught, lying. They probably lied to us forever, but it's wild, man. Morgan.
Amy
There's a woman in Florida. So she was at a Burlington Coat Factory, her name was April. And she saw this 92 year old woman working and she went up to her and was like, wow, you're, you know, you're doing great, you're on your feet. And the 92 year old was obviously not happy that she was at work and they got to talking and she said that, you know, she has rent and a car payment and car insurance and all these utility bills that she has to pay and her Social Security doesn't cover it. So April went on a local Facebook page, talking about, like, the 92 year old still working and doing all of this. And as of Tuesday afternoon, there's been almost $65,000 raised to help this woman stop working.
Bobby Bones
90 plus years old, still working. The real payoff to that bit would be after she collects all of her money, it's really Johnny Knoxville and he rips off that old woman mask. You know, I. Did you guys ever see John Knoxville, old man? Yeah, yeah. He's like, got you.
Eddie
It's not an old lady.
Bobby Bones
Thank you all. That sucks to be 92.
Eddie
Still working.
Bobby Bones
Still working. Doesn't sound like she has a lot of support with her. All right, Amy, what do you have?
Amy
So when a psychiatrist or a psychologist, excuse me, Asked patients to write a letter to their future self, their anxiety dropped by 34%. And I imagine a lot of people out there are feeling kind of anxious right now for various reasons. So if you sit down and write letters to your future self, Oxford found that the practice is equal to cognitive therapy. And you just take like 15 minutes a day or so, you just sit down and write to your future self. Who do you want to be? How do you want to show up? What other things would you like to see in yourself and in your life? And it can be very, well, therapeutic. And I was cleaning out my daughter's room the other day, and I opened up her nightstand and I saw an envelope, and it was sealed and it was letter to my 25 year old self.
Bobby Bones
Oh, dang.
Amy
And I was like, ugh.
Bobby Bones
What'd it say? Did you read it?
Eddie
You didn't read it?
Amy
No, it was sealed.
Eddie
That's tempting, man.
Bobby Bones
I know it's not.
Eddie
You put it over, like, steam or.
Amy
Whatever and open it, get a new envelope and like, try to. Yeah, No, I was tempted, but I was like, oh, man, she must have been told about this exercise maybe in therapy or something. Or maybe it's something her and her friends. Or maybe she's not on TikTok. You never know. But she has a letter in her drawer to her 25 year old self.
Bobby Bones
I feel like writing a letter to your future self is a lot riskier than writing one to your old self, because writing one to your future self in your mind, you're going to do all these great things and you're like, hey, but this point in your life, you've done this, you've probably accomplished this. You got this going on, and then you get there and you're like, I didn't do any of that. Because I think all of us probably had a different version of. I mean, not. Not really for me. I'll be honest with you.
Amy
You're living in a little bit.
Bobby Bones
A little bit, yeah. But, you know, I think a lot of folks probably thought they'd be somewhere different than they are and had these great dreams and had to divert their path for some reason. And so all of a sudden, you're like, wow, I'm gonna be, you know, president of the United States. And you're like, huh? Oh, man, I'm not. I'm still here. Mountain pine.
Eddie
Nothing changed.
Bobby Bones
That feels like it'd be a little riskier.
Amy
Yeah.
Eddie
So is that what you do? You write like, wow, you made a lot of money.
Bobby Bones
Like, no, you write to your. You still have all your hair, Eddie. I bet you look great today. Like, what's the.
Eddie
Like, what do you write?
Amy
Okay. It's called the best possible self practice. And you spend 15 minutes a day for a couple weeks describing who you want to become a year from now. The brain interprets this as already real. When a person visualizes their best self, the brain receives a clear reference point and replaces chaos with structure. And structure is the opposite of anxiety.
Eddie
I see what you're saying. Risky, risky, Very risky.
Bobby Bones
It may feel good now, but when you open that thing in a year. I just wouldn't open it.
Amy
Oh, don't. I don't. You don't have to go back and read it.
Bobby Bones
Oh, you don't?
Eddie
Oh, that's good.
Bobby Bones
Oh, that's what sucks. It's like a message in a bottle, and it comes back.
Eddie
But I think once you put it to paper, you already remember what you thought.
Bobby Bones
No, I wouldn't. You wouldn't? Nah, I don't think so. Or would I even remember to think about it in a year? Like, you have to put that on.
Eddie
Oh, yeah, that's true.
Bobby Bones
On a cow.
Amy
On a what?
Bobby Bones
A cal.
Amy
Oh, calendar.
Bobby Bones
Cal.
Amy
Yeah, I said Cal, like, move, like.
Eddie
And where do you send the cow?
Amy
And I was like, is this some, like, brandy? Like, you gotta brand it.
Bobby Bones
No, I can't.
Amy
You gotta stamp it in there.
Bobby Bones
My cow.
Eddie
Why did you start calling it a cow?
Bobby Bones
Everything's put in the cow.
Amy
Please tell us.
Eddie
Stop.
Bobby Bones
Cal. You guys don't put in the cow. No, I just write cal. Send.
Eddie
It's in the cow.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, it's in the cow, you guys. Well, Amy probably uses our calendar a lot.
Amy
Oh, yeah. I love my calendar.
Eddie
Now I use a calendar.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, but it's different.
Amy
Do you, though?
Eddie
Yes. My wife keeps the calendar.
Amy
Okay. I swear.
Eddie
And that's how I know what's going on.
Amy
I was so anti calendar.
Eddie
She keeps a calendar and it's shared.
Bobby Bones
Yeah. Okay.
Eddie
Yeah. So we have a calendar, and, like, if we're gonna do something, I'll add.
Amy
To the calendar around, like, 2019. 2020 is when I started using the calendar. It changed my life.
Eddie
I remember I bought an organizer. You know, Remember those little. You know, little organizers that you fold or whatever? And it's got a calendar, notepad, and all that stuff. I would buy it every year. Dude, When I was in my 20s, never used them.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I never used one of those.
Eddie
And it was like, I want to be. I want to be organized this year. Never would use them.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I never use one of those. Even, like, paper journals.
Amy
Oh, I love them.
Bobby Bones
Lose them or just don't go back to them.
Eddie
Would you write at least on the first page?
Bobby Bones
Yeah, like two pages.
Amy
Lose them. Where are you carrying it?
Bobby Bones
I don't know. There's like, one page journals all scattered all over the town.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
I do best at just writing in my laptop because I always have that.
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
So do you have, like, something else to be lugging around?
Amy
Do you have, like, a doc or, like, a notes app of, like, your journalings?
Bobby Bones
I don't journal.
Amy
Or do you just type and then delete?
Bobby Bones
No, I definitely don't do that. If I write something. I was talking about this in therapy. I was like, if I write something, I'm writing it for two reasons. One, for a bit of therapy, but two, if I die, like, my wife should sell, like, sell it as a book. Like, I'm writing it. I'm writing it in performance as well. It's true. But I'm writing it in performance.
Amy
What? She is not gonna sell it as a book.
Bobby Bones
I'll remind her, but I've told her, and my therapist is like, how about you? Do you know, like, one page can be that and one page can be real?
Amy
You're like. And then she can go on a book tour.
Eddie
Dude, that's so smart.
Bobby Bones
Yeah.
Eddie
And so, like, someone's little fiction. Little fiction in there.
Bobby Bones
No, there's no.
Eddie
Did you wrestle with a.
Bobby Bones
No, I didn't do Matthew McConaughey greenlights.
Eddie
Okay.
Amy
No, but see, I think that he has so much information in there because he was a journaler. Like, he admits to being a lifelong person that journals. And I think I was contemplating this about his book. I'm like, how did he know all these stories? And how does he remember all these details?
Eddie
Yeah, a lot of it's Like, I.
Amy
Thought it was exaggerated. I'm sure there's a combo of that. But I want to believe it's because he journaled and he had the proof.
Bobby Bones
I think a lot of it just. He's just there going, then it can't be a memoir. No, it's not. It's a lot of it's fiction.
Amy
I thought it was called a memoir.
Bobby Bones
You can call it whatever you want. This is. This podcast. A memoir.
Eddie
Okay.
Bobby Bones
We called it a memoir.
Eddie
Cool.
Amy
Oh, okay. He should be like, memoir mixed with a little bit.
Bobby Bones
No. Because it didn't sell as well and who cares?
Eddie
You read it the same, like, oh, that's. No, that's crazy.
Amy
I read it like, did this really happen?
Eddie
Well, you can believe that.
Amy
And he remembers every detail of a fight in a barn with his dad.
Eddie
That's the beauty of art. You can believe that if you want.
Amy
Okay.
Bobby Bones
It's also the beauty of misinformation, Eddie.
Eddie
Well, but this is just a book that he's selling. It's not like.
Bobby Bones
And that's just Twitter and Facebook.
Eddie
Oh, that's true. A lot of fake stuff out there.
Bobby Bones
A lot of misinformation. A picky 5 year old hooked on sausage rolls breaks the habit after hypnosis. I got hypnotized one time on stage in college at a performance, and I faked it the whole time.
Amy
So you weren't really hypnotized.
Eddie
Is this the first time you ever told anyone that you faked it?
Bobby Bones
Mm. Mm. I've mentioned this before, but they did the whole thing. And he was kicking people off that he knew were faking it or maybe wouldn't play the role. And he's like, you're asleep. So I fell, let my head fall.
Eddie
So dope.
Bobby Bones
And then I just did the whole thing. And then I would ask other people after, like, were you really hypnotized? They're like, yeah, I was not hypnotized at all. Nothing, nothing about it was real to me. I was just playing a role up there. I thought at one point I did have the thought of, should I just right now go, I'm not even hypnotized. But then I thought, I don't want to do that and run. The guy. Yeah.
Amy
Is this. Is. Is this what's happening with the. What was that? Yanny and gnarly people. What's the word? The thing where we hear different things and I'm like, it's collectively a certain group of society acting like Bobby, and they're all just like, I'm acting Like I hear the other word because how do we hear two different words?
Bobby Bones
I think that's the point of it. Just like we talked about earlier, the biology of a person's body or brain.
Amy
That's what you would say because you're.
Bobby Bones
You're acting. Oh, my God. I'm not acting. I can't believe.
Eddie
We can't believe you now because you.
Bobby Bones
Because you're like Yanni and. What's the other one? Laurel.
Amy
Laurel and Yanni. I mean, they're so different.
Eddie
But what about the dress?
Amy
Yeah, exactly.
Eddie
Two different colors.
Amy
I was thinking about this the other day.
Bobby Bones
I don't. Colors aren't my thing. Anyway, this kid got hypnotized to break pizza. Pizza pockets. And he's five years old, so I don't think he's faking it.
Amy
So did it.
Bobby Bones
A five year old boy would only eat Greg sausage rolls. And he's now eating more food after a hypnosis session.
Amy
I was watching the Elizabeth Smart documentary. Have y' all started that on Netflix?
Eddie
I started it.
Bobby Bones
We don't have any power. Where are you watching that?
Amy
Your friends at my friend's house, they had it on. I barely. I walked by. So this is the only part I saw. The younger sister who was in the room when Elizabeth was taken remembered some details, but not all. And part of her. When they would be talking to her, part of the process was at one point they hypnotized her to see if, like, more would come to her. And I'm like, that's. That's really a tool. I don't know because I don't know if hypnosis is real or not. And it's like, what if in the hypnosis she saw some other thing and then said it?
Bobby Bones
I think they probably look at it like that, but they probably investigate any lead that comes from. And if the lead turns into something, then it counts. But I don't think they blindly assign truth to people that are quoting things back in hypnosis.
Amy
What's crazy is at some four months or some point after that, she did have a sudden memory of who it was and she named him and police blew it off. That's crazy.
Eddie
Elizabeth Smart.
Amy
And it was exactly who had kidnapped her.
Bobby Bones
Sometimes I'll do that, like, what's that guy's name? This ain't Pink Houses. And then I won't for. And like, I know it. I've said his name a 10,000 times. And then I won't look it up. And then like four days later, John Mellencamp out Of nowhere.
Amy
Yeah, it was sort of like that. And she was so young and one day she was just like. She went to her dad and she was like, it was Emmanuel. Someone she. They barely had contact with. And sure enough, that was exactly who took her. But police were like, what? This is so random. It doesn't make sense. We're following other leads.
Bobby Bones
Then she goes, John Mellencamp. Ted Lasso gets a season four summer release window. That's a show I really loved. And then I just didn't watch it anymore. Like, I watched. You didn't finish it? No, I watched season one.
Eddie
Oh.
Bobby Bones
Watched like two episodes. Season two. Never went back to it. Never watched season two or three, but it was never bad. I just never went back to it.
Eddie
It was good even towards the end.
Bobby Bones
Well, it's not over.
Eddie
Well, I thought it was over forever until they were going to have a new one.
Bobby Bones
You like it, Mike?
Eddie
Yeah.
Bobby Bones
It was supposed to be over. They're like, we're done. Oh, really? They're paying us a bunch of money. We're back. Now he's going back to England to coach a woman's soccer.
Eddie
Okay, that's what I read.
Bobby Bones
A woman's football team.
Amy
I like it. It's just a feel good show you can watch with everyone and not like kids or anything. Why not watch it with kids?
Bobby Bones
There's. There's bad words. But now playing content.
Eddie
Other stuff.
Amy
What?
Eddie
Yeah, there's like, okay.
Amy
But it's fine. Like they don't. Some of it.
Bobby Bones
His 18 year old can't see that.
Eddie
No, not my 18 year old. He's fine. But like the other ones. Yeah, you gotta watch out when you watch stuff.
Amy
Oh, yeah. Okay.
Bobby Bones
But that show.
Eddie
Yeah, yeah. Like Keely, she's a little crazy.
Amy
Yeah, she is. But also it's like opportunity for conversation.
Eddie
No, I'm not. I just want to watch a show. Like, I don't want to have the whole talk. You don't have to let me pause it and be like, all right, guys, what's happening here?
Amy
Oh, all right.
Bobby Bones
We got to go over to the real show, which is part one. We like doing part two the best. Again, apologies for the files being a little shorter this week. We're just trying to get our lives back at this point. But now that we have power, that helps me a lot not to rub it in.
Amy
Now I'm happy for anybody that has power. That's amazing.
Bobby Bones
We just don't have Internet.
Eddie
Yeah. Makes life a little hard.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, I'm glad to have power and I'm Okay. Not having Internet because I'd rather have power and no Internet than Internet. No power because we wouldn't be over here using Internet. So of the two, we're the right way. Because we get hot water.
Amy
Yeah, yeah.
Eddie
So you can get hot water without power if you have a. Like a.
Bobby Bones
We have an electric hot water heater.
Eddie
Oh, that's different.
Bobby Bones
Yeah, because if you have a gas stove, you can boil it.
Eddie
Yeah, yeah. Gas stove. Or like, a lot of, like, older water heaters. They're like propane.
Bobby Bones
Gas.
Eddie
Gas.
Bobby Bones
All right, that's what's up. Everybody keeps asking, why don't you have a generator? Well, we've talked about this on the show. I didn't have a generator, and then I had a guy come over and look at it and give me a quote. And then I got the quote about a day before the storm. So I didn't have the generator. I did pay for one yesterday. A whole home one.
Amy
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
You know how much, though, a whole home one is?
Amy
Yes. I mean, I don't know for this.
Bobby Bones
Is this the number? That's what I had to pay.
Amy
Oh, yeah, that sounds about right. Yeah, yeah.
Bobby Bones
Because you see where the comma is.
Amy
Yes, I do. What I'm saying is I know what it would. Because at my last house, I got a quote, and it was. I know where it was. And I just picture, like, three of those houses sandwiched together.
Bobby Bones
Believe it, they. And so, like, a small generator. You put gas in it. This they put in your gas line.
Eddie
Oh, never.
Bobby Bones
So there's never putting in it. Just pouring. Yeah, so that's your gas.
Amy
Okay, that's. That's smart. Because my boyfriend has a small generator. He's not able to be at his house either, but he has a small generator that he keeps running for, like, his fridge. And then he has a. Some radon detector, something that's in his basement. That has to be. The levels have to be measured because it's bad. And so he keeps having to go over there to fill it up with gas. Like, multiple times a day.
Bobby Bones
He's over there drinking.
Eddie
That's where he gets his. That's where he gets his little sauce.
Bobby Bones
I got to go fill this back up with gas.
Eddie
I'll be back.
Bobby Bones
You hear some clink, Clink, clink, clink, clink.
Amy
No, trust me, I ain't messing with that kind of action.
Bobby Bones
Thank you, guys. We'll see you tomorrow. Bye, everybody.
Amy
In the middle of the night, Saskia awoke in a haze. Her husband Mike was on his laptop. What was on his screen would change Saskia's life forever.
Bobby Bones
I said, I need you to tell.
Amy
Me exactly what you're doing. And immediately, the mask came off. You're supposed to be safe. That's your home. That's your husband. Listen to Betrayal Season 5 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is an iHeart podcast.
