Episode 5: An Education for Life (Part 2)

Guest: Tier Blundell

In our 5th episode of The Bounce Mindset, our host Rebecca Mander is joined by Tier Blundell, whose choices following a heart-breaking childhood determined the man he is today.

I first heard Tier’s story on Radio 4 as part of the ‘Life Changing’ series and I was hooked and therefore delighted to hear that he would share his story, in even more detail with me!

Tier was so generous with his story we have shared it over two parts! From early experiences of racial abuse at school and at home, Tier felt uncared for and as part of a broken system was expelled from main stream education. He lacked any qualifications at the age of 26 despite his interest in learning. Tier shares how his determination to move from the victim to victor space at an early age formed the person that he would fight to become.

Throughout the episode, Tier inspires with his willingness to come out of his comfort zone and face his worse fears- further feelings of exclusion something many of us get when we feel out of place due to our background or experiences.

Tier's journey demonstrates that early challenges, such as school exclusion and personal struggles, don’t have to dictate your future. By reframing adversity, he turned obstacles into stepping stones toward success. From seeking education as a mature student to pursuing a doctorate at Oxford, he shows that self-belief and determination can rewrite your story, no matter where you start.

Through his initiative, Excluded from School, Tier is championing the belief that every young person deserves support and a second chance.
