Today on Front page, AI is reshaping who has a job and who doesn't, and more than 45 CEOs have publicly talked about cutting staff. I sat down with Ian Dunlap, founder of Red Panda, to break it all down.

There are hundreds of millions of jobs that are going to be restructured over the next five or six years.

Mimi Brown
All right, everyone, thank you for joining us today on another episode of Front Page, and of course, on the Breakfast Club. Meta. They just recently laid off thousands of workers as more companies pour more money into artificial intelligence. And it's raising a lot of questions that a lot of people are asking right now. Should we actually be worried about AI replacing jobs? Because this is no longer just happening inside Silicon Valley. We're seeing layoffs tied to AI efficiencies and logistics, finance, consulting, media, retail, manufacturing. Even companies like Nike, Amazon, ups, just others, a host of others. And then more than 45 CEOs, they have recently publicly talked about reducing staff because AI can now do certain jobs faster and cheaper. So what does this actually mean for everyday workers? Which jobs are most at risk? What careers may be safer than people realize? And how should people really prepare for this economy as it shifts even more? So today I wanted to bring in someone who has been helping people understand money markets and economic shifts for years. You've seen him on Market Mondays, Earn your leisure, and he's the founder of Red Panda, and he's been on social media across it for years. You know exactly who I'm talking about. But he's here to break all of this down in plain English for us. Ian Dunlap joins me to help separate some of this fact from, or fear, should I say, from reality. Ian, thank you so much for joining us.
Ian Dunlap
I'm happy to be here. How are you?
Mimi Brown
I'm good, I'm good, thank you. So I got a thousand questions. I just want to jump in. Okay. All right. So, you know, are people overreacting to AI right now or we not taking it serious enough? What do you say?
Ian Dunlap
I don't think people are taking it serious enough if we're just talking specifically to the culture in our community. Yeah, I've said, and I'm a big fan of OpenAI, huge fan of anthropic. But in my conversations that I've had with people in Silicon Valley, the thing that I'm seeing, it's a legalized way to discriminate against us in the job market. And I'm not here to fearmonger, but I'm here to tell the absolute truth. During every technological wave, there is a offsetting of jobs. And we'll talk about the solutions later. But I think people don't realize all across the world at one time. And I have friends at Meta who were affected by the layoff. This is something that's going to sweep the globe. And there are hundreds of millions of jobs that are going to be restructured over the next five or six years due to AI. Now at some point we're going to have the conversation about is it going to correct back. I think so. But for these next two or three years, you do have to be aware of the imminent danger that is there because of AI and what it can do to the job market negatively.
Mimi Brown
What industries are quietly already being impacted.
Ian Dunlap
If we look at, let's say entry level coding is one, entry level marketing has been affected. Any administrative work, customer service, call centers, things that had a lower pay grade. And I feel bad for the graduates because when I graduated from college the thought was, well, almost get any degree and you were guaranteed job placement. Now this graduating class has a feeling as if almost if any degree that I get, even if it's a higher end degree or more prestigious degree, there isn't job placement for me. And that's partially true. The debt's GDP is higher than ever. So that's part of the reason as well. So those are some industries that have been affected. Marketing, sales, call centers, any back end admin work has been greatly affected. But shortly we'll talk about the solutions. But if you're in those industries or looking to break in, you're going to have to find a way to use AI to be more worth more in the market today than you were maybe four or five years ago.
Mimi Brown
You know, you brought up graduates, recent graduates. You know, we just had graduation season and I was thinking the same.
Ian Dunlap
Yeah, it's heartbreaking.
Mimi Brown
Like what are these kids going to do right now? I mean even finding summer jobs I would assume would be a little bit harder this summer than they used to be back in the day.
Ian Dunlap
It's, it's unfortunate, but it's been a planned destruction to even eliminate internships and summer jobs to give you that onboarding to be able to make your way into some of the corporations. So like even a lot of the people who've been onboarded at tech, they had companies that were acquired and they were brought in that way. So the way that we look at the economy and the job market, this is why investing is really important. Being an entrepreneur is really important because you can't have all of your eggs in one basket. If the market starts to contract or the economy compresses the way that it has been over the last two years, you need to be able to have a backup plan. And I used to argue that entrepreneurship was a great backup plan. But it's mandatory that it's the first thing that you focus on now, that in investing at the same time.
Mimi Brown
Especially now.
Morakan Advertiser
Right.
Mimi Brown
Because absolutely. That. That Plan B is now a lot of people's plan.
Ian Dunlap
Plan A. Yes.
Mimi Brown
Yeah.
Ian Dunlap
And the world changes so rapidly. We're almost back in, like, the Renaissance era of being able to do a. A multitude of things at one time. And while it may be scary, it creates some of the greatest opportunities ever. I remember this is maybe three years ago in Brilliant Idiots, Charlemagne was telling Schultz, like, well, I don't even know if AI is going to affect Ian. And Schultz chimed in and said, no, the human intuition part makes him more valuable. So to everyone in the culture, there's a certain Genesee Quad that we have in terms of creativity, freedom, skill sets, putting things together that normally don't go together, that will give us tremendous edge, even. I'm seeing some people with the Wimby campaign, create things for Nike and post it on Instagram, and then Nike has reached out to them to integrate it into the finals. So despite the job market being in shambles, I think is one of the greatest landscapes we had in terms of creativity. Like, to be able to create some of the things that you can with AI five or six years ago would have taken tens of thousands of dollars to be able to create it. And now you can create some of those things in two or three hours. So you have to definitely take advantage of it.
Mimi Brown
So what I'm hearing you say is basically find a way for AI to work for you. I know we're, we're talking about what jobs are gone, but there's a way in which you can take this, this shift and then make it work for you so that way you're not left out. As you know, AI continues to change our landscape.
Ian Dunlap
Absolutely. I'm telling everyone, you have to be a chimera. You have to be entrepreneur, an investor, a content creator. You have to know how to write, you have to know how to promote. And the great part is, if you're able to do all of those things, like you are able to do your value, you're one of one. And more companies are looking for more people, more brands, more talent. That's one of one. Like, if you look at what the normal job description was, maybe 10 years ago, it was very finite. Now everyone knows how to manage social media, knows how to create content. You're almost a creative director. Everyone knows how to shoot photos, have to learn how to edit. So my thing is be a chimera, learn how to do all of these things at one time and more importantly, like if you know how to invest. On top of that, you have a skill set that you can take to any company.

AI is restructuring hundreds of millions of jobs around the world and it's already happening in entry level coding, marketing, sales, call centers, back end admin. And it's coming for more. Just what we spoke about today. But the takeaway from this conversation is that people who learn how to make AI work for them are going to come out on the other side stronger. And this is exactly where we'll be picking it up tomorrow in our next installment. On the next episode, we're going to go just a little deeper. The specific AI tools you need to know which ones to start using today, how to use them to make yourself more valuable in your job or in your business or even on your side hustle.
